Syel had understood that Dieter had been stuck in some sort of crystal when Ysera found him. While she wondered what this meant for the man in question, she definitely didn't want to pry the answer from Dieter. Instead she had been doing research in the crystal and how it could have come. Perhaps there were even others like him... And maybe, very maybe, she would find out why Dieter was in there.
Constantly working on this information during her pastime along with the other research, Syel found some information from home. Since Dieter had been found around Ordalia it wasn't a surprise when another crystalline being could be in Jylland. It was in the south of the continent, just off the coast. It seemed there was something found of a crystalline person in the forest where she originated from.
The idea of going home seemed interesting to her, Syel would be able to meet family again while also aiding the region. It seemed like the best idea and if she could bring Dieter along, they could check out this weird crystalline person.
With that idea, Syel checked downstairs with Nils where Dieter could be before running off to the airship. If he comes along, I might get the most information out of it, she thought to herself while she hurried through the streets. When she finally got to the airship, she checked around to see if Dieter was there. It meant they could also immediately fly off to their destination. Hopefully he wasn't on a different mission. ulla

| The Dark Knight was indeed present, albeit, his form remained slumped over against his cumbersome blade – kneels drawn towards his chest with one arm tentatively cradling his shoulder. His dusky jade eyes cracked open, a nearby Air Crew workers’ presence rousing him from his momentary slumber. His head lazily craned backwards, his idle arm raised to shield his eyes from the harsh, relentless rays filtering in from a nearby window. After a moment or two had passed and his eyes had adjusted, Dieter diligently scanned the room – once again silently marveling at the vast difference in technology. In the Ivalice he’d known, half of the ancient technology was buried within Ruins, kept coveted by the Lords – the most effective means of travel available to the public was a harnessed Chocobo.
The Clockwork City of Goug had been hailed as the most technologically advanced, albeit, most of its’ discoveries were kept secret from the public. Not that the Church would openly admit that, why would they? It undoubtedly would paint a less than favorable picture. His lips tightened, spreading themselves into a firm scowl of disapproval – his thoughts filled with bitterness for a brief instance. Fortunately, the wave of negativity was short-lived, swept away by the maelstrom of idle thoughts running through his mind. Dieter’s scowl broke as Dieter hafted his rust-coated blade upwards, reholstering in the makeshift sling on his back. His body protested the sudden movement, his joints crackling under the strain. The fresh rush of blood to his head, threatening him with momentary light-headedness. His attention came to rest upon Syel, he knew little about the Green Mage, aside from the fact that she was a close companion to Ysera. Based off the message he’d received from Nils, their reason for departing so rapidly was that there had been rumors of yet another crystallized statue – one that was like the state he’d willingly entered to let the years pass.
“How reliable is the source that claims to have seen a crystallize statue?”
Dieter forwent trivial pleasantries, his tone a bit gruff as he’d made his way closer to Syel.

Finding Dieter near the ship, a chill went over Syel's spine for a moment. The Dark Knight came into motion as she got towards him. From both his face and his voice, Syel felt like he wasn't really in a good mood for some reason. Honestly, she wasn't certain what to make of it. There hadn't been enough conversation between them to really give an impression what he might think of her. Considering the few missions they went on, she did tend to talk back on Dieter's choices, especially with the orphans. Perhaps he really didn't like her, but she didn't truly care too much if that was the case.
“Very!” she answered a bit bouncy, “the source can be called family of mine, since my tribe is the one who found it in the forest we live in.” Happily she went on: “I still have contact with some... The others don't really like me since I left Jylland, but that was my own choice.” Shrugging with a smile, she then motioned to the airship, “we'll fly there, I'll fill you further in on the way.”
The viera started to move towards the airship, hoping the Dark Knight would follow her on board of the airship. “We'll avoid my tribe's village, however, since the elders won't like my presence too much there,” she continued with her explanation, “the one that found the statue will wait for us near the edge of the forest, southeastern side so we're as close to the place she found the statue in.”
Aboard the ship, Syel motioned to the pilot that they could lift off and the man moved towards the front to start the airship. Turning to a table, Syel sat down in a chair and pulled out a map of the forest, “in her message to me, she indicated the statue to be somewhere underground in this area,” she pointed on the map, “she was training with the earth spirits when she came upon the crystalline statue. The earthen creatures seemed to be somewhat protective of it, so she was forced out.” We're going there to see if we can calm the earth and see what this crystalline statue is doing to the area. ulla

| Syel’s initial assessment regarding Dieter’s foul demeanor was correct, albeit, the Viera’s deduction as to why was a tad bit off. It had nothing to do with the Green Mage but rather the mission itself – Dieter’s secret ran the risk of being exposed if Ysera and Syel collaborated the finer details regarding his appearance in the Crypt and his kindred spirit. Not to mention, Dieter was nervous about encountering another of his kind after so long, cognizant of their bestial nature and frenzied fighting style. At the current time, there was no way to ascertain if it had been domesticated like himself, which meant, it was a dangerous radical – one that couldn’t be permitted.
His gruff demeanor visibly softened with Syel’s bubbly retort, her certainty did little to abate his subconscious fears. However, it had also ignited the faintest glimmer of hope within his Darkness-tainted heart. He responded with a polite nod of his head as she’d elaborate further upon the fact that her source was family by proxy of her clan. When she mentioned that some of her clansmen didn’t care for her, Dieter sympathized with her, knowing how cruel it could be society turned its’ back upon you. His interest was momentary piqued, curious of the circumstances surrounding Syel’s departure from her homeland.
Alas, despite his momentary interest, it wasn’t great enough to warrant probing further into the topic – not currently at least. Without further delay, Dieter sauntered after his clanmate, moving with surprising grace despite the cumbersome rust-coated blade strapped to his back. He of course had to duck down, tucking his shoulder inwards to ensure that his blade didn’t catch on the hatch leading into the airship.
“If you don’t mind me probing Syel, why did you leave your tribe?” Dieter asked, his tone notably softer than before. His interest had been rekindled due to this being the second time she’d mentioned aversion to her tribe in a matter of minutes. If she elected to remain silent upon that matter, Dieter had already decided to not further pursue that topic. However, when she’d mentioned that one of her former tribe would be awaiting them at the edge of the forest to guide them to where they’d discovered the statue. Dieter watched as Syel made her way to a table, seating herself in a chair as she’d pulled out a map.
Dieter diligently moved to his side, taking a moment to place his hand upon the back of her chair, pushing her a bit closer to the table – a chivalrous gesture on his part. He took the seat beside her, his eyes raking across the map as he’d committed it to memory, trying to recall if any of the geography matched the Ivalice he’d remembered. Sadly, while there was numerous similarities, many of the city names differed. This begged the question, how long had he truly slept within his crystalline prison.
“Spirits?”
Dieter inquired, if he’d recalled, Hashmal sovereign over the domain of Earth, was this perhaps one of his vassals? Dieter’s teeth dug into his lip, uncertain if that new development boded well for them.

Watching Dieter intently, he seemed to calm somewhat down. Syel hoped he was doing alright, she didn't really understand why he had been frozen and she definitely was not meaning to pry. Their clan leader, Ysera, seemed to have made it a point that their pasts mattered little if one didn't feel the need to speak about them. Honestly, she doubted Ysera herself would ever ask anyone about their pasts... or talk of her own. A whole different question came towards her that had Syel somewhat... surprised. Her own past? Syel scratched her chin, “looking for adventures, in this land most Viera seem to keep to themselves and avoid contact,” she started calm, “back in Jylland there are far more Viera who leave the forest and work together with the other races. I keep contact with my family, only few remain there that truly keep to the forest.” She hoped that would aid in the explanation. Looking over the papers, Syel pulled out a few and placed them together. “A few in my family try to stick to the old ways while most tribes right now have started to move away from those rites,” she continued while putting her own research together with some articles on the viera from Jylland. “Most don't really care what I do, but the elders of the tribe look down on the youth of these days and dislike how things are changing. So they stick to the old traditions, this is why we stay away from most of the tribe,” she placed the papers over each other as she pointed at the map and the papers on the traditions of the Viera. “Here around Rabanastre you don't see that many Viera, but in Jylland where I am from they are much more numerous even in normal towns. So if you'd like to visit more often, I'm sure I can get some of the family to show you around,” she laughed with a shrug before pulling back the map and pointed where the crystalline being was. “Spirits of the earth, so Earth Elementals. My cousin's a geomancer,” she explained. ulla

Helios Ambitions’ Dark Knight remained unfazed by Syel’s studious gaze as it’d lingered, specifically upon him. Truthfully, Dieter couldn’t fault Helios’ prestigious Researcher for her concerns, his outburst and aloofness had taken it to the extremis, which, admittingly was out of character for him. A scarcely audible sigh of relief slipped from between his lips as Syel’s attention drifted elsewhere, his momentary reprieve furthered by Syel as she’d scratched at her chin – possibly an attempt to gather her own thoughts. In response to the Green Mage’s confession, Dieter nodded his head periodically, he understood the enticing allure of adventuring. Perhaps, their reasons differed, he knew his own reasoning behind exploring was to search for even the flimsiest of rumors regarding Lord Belias’ and his brethren.
According to Syel, many of her kind, the Viera, elected to keep to themselves, avoiding the trifles of mankind. Frankly, Dieter thought them far wiser for such a lifestyle, nettling in the affairs of others, it seldom bred anything more than unnecessary headaches or far worse. Syel had also went on to exclaim, within her homeland, Jylland, it was far more common for the Viera to take their leave of their beloved forest in favor of forging alliances. Of course, the cultural difference raised a few questions by itself. However, those could wait for the time being, especially because Syel had yet to quite finish. It’d seemed despite her choices, she’d retained ties with her family, many of whom elected to stick to their tribe’s old ways.
“Fascinating, what prompted the change in mindset?”
Dieter inquired, curious to what had prompted the shift in their beliefs’ or at least within in a sub-sect of the whole. His answer came as Syel touched upon the generational divide, the elders of the tribe still clung to the ways of old, while the younger generations sought their own path. He watched as she’d arranged the papers, periodically poking and prodding at the paper with one of her slender fingers. Had she prepared some of these documents in advanced? Did she expect to be bombarded by questions? Or was it simply her a part of her nature. His brow rose just a fraction of an inch as she’d mentioned the sparse numbers of Viera whom inhabited Rabanastre. He’d noticed that, however, he’d attributed it simply to the fact that the few he’d met were nomadic or merchants.
“I see…. Perhaps, if this excursion goes well, I will see about returning.”
Dieter replied, his words chosen with care. To his surprise, a burble of laughter had slipped from Syel, a fact that had caused his eyes to visibly widen. It was short lived and brought to an end as she’d shrugged and began to gesture towards another map, pointing out where they’d located the crystalline being. When she went on to explain the nature of the spirits, Dieter breathed an audible sigh of relief, a faint smirk playing at his lips – at least it wasn’t the damnedable undying.
“Oh, I don’t recall many being proficient in that craft… though I guess the same could be said about my trade… few would walk my path… Though, it is good to hear… I feared you meant the undying…”
Dieter elaborated, momentarily taken back by how much he’d spoke.
“I detest things that don’t stay dead… it makes my job far harder.”
Dieter felt the need to elaborate upon, chuckling to himself, though

"I would take it, with time things just change," Syel replied while lifting her shoulders, uncertain how to explain things changing. With the clans and the Hunts, many of the viera in Jylland did join clans and aided outside the forests these days. Meanwhile in other parts of the world, a lot just changed traditional. It was hard to keep track for Syel at times.
It wasn't like she could very well answer the question, "perhaps one day the tribes will go away as they are as cities seem to take over the land. I earnestly hope some of the past will remain, but you cannot expect everything to stay the same. The world moves forward and we need to adapt to stay with the times, no?" Perhaps that was the best way to tell it. Honestly, the elders were just old and would be hard to change, but the youth of now would be the elders of the future.
While going over the documents, Syel usually had a lot of stuff with her in case she needed it for research. She truly enjoyed to keep track and to go over the documents if they encountered anything she might be able to look up. Hearing the man think on returning, she pondered how the reactions on that would be if he would return to the forest as well, but didn't bother speaking her mind right now.
Hearing him speak of detesting things that don't stay dead, Syel had a bit of a grin, "I wouldn't know… maybe we do find some undead on our way..." she said somewhat playful. Honestly, they would be going into hostile area and the crystalline being could also be a problem in itself maybe? ulla
