| Prior to entering the Waterway, one of the quintet, Mila, the Black Mage took it upon herself to mimick Dieter’s checks – ensuring the others’ equipment was secured properly. The Dark Knight’s lips curved upwards into a satisfied grin, proud of how she’d stepped into her role as their leader. When he’d walked past Mila, Dieter reached out and playfully ruffled her hoary tresses, unfazed by the faint blush the stained her alabaster cheeks a vibrant pink. Sofia shot Achim a stern glare, a silent reminder that if he’d teased Mila again – he’d be treating his own injuries. Meanwhile, the twin archer glanced at each other and shrugged their shoulders, Remus and Romulus just couldn’t read the mood to save their lives.
Dieter’s attention turned back towards Helios’ Ambitions Clanhead, Ysera, whom had voiced that she’d handle the position of Rear Vanguard. It was a fitting position, Ysera in Dieter’s opinion was an excellent tactician, not to mention her innovative use of her Espers granted her unparalleled control of a battlefield. It’d made sense given her past, she’d mentioned once or twice in the passing that she’d once been a Sky Pirate. When she summoned forth Shivan and Slyph , he’d turned to face Syel, whom voiced her validated concerns with bringing a group of this size. No doubt, their presence alone would attract all manner of fiend within the Waterway.
A portion of Dieter wanted to admit that the Viera had a point, however, he wasn’t also about to disappoint the children – not to mention the funding he had to care for them wasn’t infinite. No, they’d needed to hunt and gather loot in order to make back the money that he’d invested to properly equip the five children and feed the remainder. This was unfortunately, a necessary evil, despite the inherent risk.
“I believe the children will be fine, they know which creatures that they shouldn’t engaged.”
Dieter responded to Syel without glancing in her direction as he’d fiddled with the Waterway Sluice controls. One could hear the massive machines groan in protest as he’d purposefully closed the more dangerous routes, flooding them and washing the more dangerous fiends far deeper into the Waterway.
“I agreed, if it becomes too dangerous, we will retreat… should the need arise, Syel and Ysera, I will remain behind to buy the children time to escape.”
Dieter stated, his tone suggesting that no matter how they’d attempted to refute his selfless plan, he wasn’t going to change his mind. Once he’d finished fiddling with the control panel, he’d looked at the quintet and nodded his head. Mila returned his nod, waving her staff with a flourish of her arms before she’d barked out a string of orders. The Quintet arranged themselves into a simple pyramid formation, Achim lead the way, Mila was in the middle surrounded on either side by Romulus and Remus, lastly, Sofia pulled up the rear. Before long, the sound of them engaging a handful of Dire Rats could be heard. Dieter remained in line with Sofia as he’d scanned their surroundings.
Syel’s point would be validated in a matter of seconds as they’d dispatched the first wave, engaging Steelings and Ichions without pausing to take a break. Of course, the children managed well enough, suffering a few scrapes and bruises here and there, nothing that Sofia couldn’t tend to without overtaxing her mana pools. It’d been relatively smooth process until a trio of Gigan Toad’s leapt from the Waterway. Dieter’s brows furrowed as Mila’s rod was held high above her head before she’d bombarded one of them with Fira , albeit it did a sizable amount of damage, it wasn’t enough to fell the the amphibious creature. To make matters worse, a handful of Ghosts had begun to inch their way, followed by some gremlin like creatures. To top it off, the children’s innate fears acted as the perfect lure for the Dark Ones.
One could see a handful of black amomorphic blobs drifting along the ground, inching their way towards them. “Syel, Ysera, we have company.”
Dieter said as he’d unsheathed his blade before surging forward, his blade finding purchase in the back one of the one Gigantoad’s, its’ tip protruding grotesquely from its’ throat. The Archer’s focused on dispatching the one injured by the Flames, while Achim was engaging the final one, Sofia remained close by to heal his injuries.

| Having seen the orphans do their checks and working their way into the Waterway, Ysera found they knew what they were doing even with Syel voicing concerns. The children needed experience and the Hunter felt they definitely had been doing some experience. With them there, even if they were alerting presences, it should aid them forward and give the group a firsthand of experience on delving down into places.
Ysera was slightly amused with the interaction between Syel and Dieter. The two had their valuable thoughts and both were doing well enough. She suspected both would be fully willing to protect the children when things went the wrong way. Plus, even though the group could pull attention from monsters, it might also scare off a lot at the same time due to the shere size. In the wild a pack does scare away predators at times while a lone wolf just asked to be targeted.
Shrugging, Ysera didn't mind, if they needed to retreat, she doubted they'd allow Dieter to stay on his own. If anything, she would likely keep the summons there while managing the children. The worst scenario would be if they met something that even they couldn't handle. But this was below the city and such tough foes shouldn't be present or, if she would survive, she had some great complaints to make to the security of this kingdom. Not like she already had those to start with.
After Dieter had fiddled with the controls, Ysera was constantly taking in her surroundings while listening to both the talk as well as any sounds from potential danger. Nothing of the sort seemed to be there thus far. The barking of orders from the quintet had Ysera surprised, had he been giving them military training? Some adventurers liked to create an insane amount of order in groups, but Ysera liked free charge whenever she went to things. Otherwise a lot of things might never have happened as she recalled some missions and quests they had been on.
Still, the group started to handle some dire rats as Ysera stayed calm and tried not to intervene with any that might be good training for the group. There came stronger monsters soon after and it all seemed in good quality. A lot of monsters so quickly, were there a lot of fearless monsters around right now? It seemed somewhat odd. Unless something was scaring them towards the exit of the waterway. If that was the case... could it be the black fiends? Was something far more powerful ahead.
Gritting her teeth at the thought of the possibility, Ysera didn't like it. If there was some great danger ahead, the group could run into more trouble. It seemed like a good idea to rework their strategy. Though, their first problem was taking out these enemies that were popping up from everywhere. Gigan Toads, then Ghosts, and from the sounds even more were headed their way. Dieter stated a warning, “Syel, try and aid in the support,” the Gria stated lightly as she prepared an arrow.
It seemed best they started to help in dispatching this group. Looking over at the blobs, she mentally pointed the two summons at them before losing an arrow on one of the Gigantoads asshe unleashed an Oust onto one of them. The Gigantoad would be sent hurling back over the area as the arrow caused a large shockwave throughout the toad's body and sending it rolling before crashing into a wall.
The two summons floated a bit sideways before an Aero and a Blizzard were send out flying at the blobs where a blade of wind and a shard of ice were crashing into one of the blobs. Since magic were more effective on Flan-like creatures, Ysera had hoped to make use of the summons' skills for them. “Focus on one at a time, we can move back if things start to overwhelm,” Ysera stated calm, “anyone taking damage, move a bit back to make it easier for the support.” | Active Shivan: 3 HP Sylph: 3 HP

Syel merely shrugged, she didn't really have the capacity to protect the entire group if they did come across something back. If they got trapped somehow, then they'd have a big problem. So it was best to set her sensing Mist to also check on traps in case there was anything magickal about. This mission was only going to get worsened if this was going to be how they were going about it. The two summons there also offered some protection and Dieter suggested on buying time if they did find danger. Still, did he truly take all sorts of situations into account. Syel huffed a little annoyed, but didn't voice her opinion about this. If anything, she'd likely just as well aid Dieter in his position rather than fall back. Then again, that'd leave the children in a problematic situation as well. This wasn't working in the slightest manner. Watching the children as they moved onward, it seemed to Syel that Dieter had been training them in some sort of strategic formations. It seemed sort of curious to figure out what all they had learned. It also gave insight in the sort of menthoring Dieter gave to the orphans. It was an amusing thing to view as well as informative. So far the creatures opposing them weren't really that much of a burden, Dire Rats and then some Steelings and Ichions. Syel saved her mana for later as she watched Sofia tend to the children in a way to keep things going. However, when the Gigan Toads appeared it made things a bit too difficult. If that wasn't enough, the large toads were followed by more creatures. Syel sighed, “a little too much company, I told you we'd attract attention,” she replied to Dieter. Hearing Ysera suggest her to aid in the support, Syel clacked her tongue a little while watching them attack the Gigan Toads. Focusing her magick, a transparent yellow field surrounded Achim as she used Protect to enhance his physical defense. She figured the child, as he fought one Gigan Toad, would need the best defense. “Try and stay together, let them get closer to us rather than us scattering,” she called out while focusing her magic again. This time towards the center of the group of gremlins as she cast Oil that fell onto the one in the center, “someone torch that one, it'll set them all on fire,” she suggested, checking if any of the children could cast a Fire spell.
Protect: cast on Achim, 3 post duration Oil: on the gremlin in the center of the handful, increasing fire vulnerability, 3 post duration

Sumila’s rod was raised above her head as Syel implored them to target an oil-slathered gremlin amid their ranks. Her soft sapphire eyes fluttering shut as her lips moved rapidly, reciting whispering the incantation that Dieter had painstakingly drilled into her head – he’d made her memorize it both forward and back to ensure she’d never forget it. Once the last word left her lips, a large sphere of fire manifested itself just a fraction of an inch above her rod, a quick swing of it was enough to fling the sweltering orb into their folds. Unfortunately, her aim was a bit off, but a few stray sparks arched off one of its’ comrades causing the oil to ignite. Sumila’s expression remained unchanged as the Gremlins let out deafening screeches, unorganized chaos taking root as they’d swarmed about one another – further worsening their situation.
Achim’s espresso-colored eyes widened in surprise as he’d felt the gentle pulse of Syel’s magick as it’d ensnared him – its’ presence a silent reassure that all would be fine. His efforts redoubled as he’d squared his shoulders and raised his crude wooden buckler just in time to receive the impact of the Gigantoad’s tongue as it’d lashed across its’ surface. A groan of protested slid from between his lips as he’d visibly slid back an inch or two, his arm aching dully despite Syel’s magick dampening the recoil he’d felt. None the less, Achim surged forward, his gladius finding purchase near the beast’s ocular cavity, a quick wrench and roll of his wrist let its’ sharp tip scratch across its’ cornea as he’d pulled it free.
Romulus and Remus remained close to one another, their fingers fumbling with the taunt strings of their bow as they’d notched yet another volley of arrows. They impacted near harmless against the thick skin of the final Gigan-toad, however, it was enough to draw its’ ire. Dieter smirked to himself as he’d wrenched his blade free from the throat of the one Gigantoad, plunging the blade into the ground as he’d recited scriptures. He was invoking two of the sword arts that he’d learned over the centuries, they’d manifested themselves as a convalesced as lime green sphere, another one was a pentagram that extend its’ points outwards so that it’d touched Achim, Remus and Romulus – they’d soon find themselves under the effects of Haste & Regen . Meanwhile, the orb shattered and its’ protective magick encircled Sofia, Sumila and Remus.
Dieter’s hand extended towards the Ghosts, the last of the magick he’d mustered was expended to invoke Firaga , an explosion of flames erupting forth, deveasting their ranks with surprising efficiency. Cooldown: Kiyomori 3 , Masamune 3, FIraga: 3
