And while you are sitting indoors waiting for the storm to pass I will be outside dancing in the rain
A pair of petite alabaster hands reached out towards a small vanity mirror – the very tips of his fingers drudged along its’ unmarred surface. He’d studied his own reflecting, noting the presence of sadness, regret and lastly doubt that lingered in the depths of his aquamarine-hued eyes. The Dark Knight’s bottom lip trembled feebly as he’d vividly recalled the expression on each of his comrades’ faces – they’d witnessed a glimpse of the past that he’d tried so hard to bury. It just wasn’t that simple, now was it? How many empires had he’d witnessed rise and fall – each one’s longevity paled in comparison to his own. His chest heaved suddenly, a broken sob threatening to spill from between his lips. Why did it feel like he was destined to be alone? Everyone that he’d ever cared for had left him behind, they’d departed on a pilgrimage that even he couldn’t accompany them on – their journey’s end.
How did the Hume continue to trudge forward, knowing full-well that only death awaited them? Perhaps, this was the very reason that their messiah, Lady Altima, had fallen at the hands of mankind; not one but twice. The Hume had learned to embrace their morality and understood the value of the finite amount of time they were given. His own kind failed to grasp such intricates, they’d been blinded by their own arrogance. Many of had come to an understanding, they were to follow the orders of those they’d deemed worthy. Dieter couldn’t fault them though – he’d once had a similar mindset. What made him different though? He’d accompanied Lord Belias across Ivalice and had been afford luxuries. What were these luxuries? They were very thing some of the Hume took for granted – the warmth of the sun, the gentleness of another’s touch, the laughter of a child.
The dreaded silence that had befallen his quarters was broken by his own voice, its’ tone edged with a tinge of hysteria.
“They are so frail, yet so strong… I envy them..”
His envy stemmed from the fact that despite them being lesser beings much like himself – they’d found their place in this world. In a way, he’d managed to do so himself after he’d been forsaken by his master, Lord Belias – unaware that the man he’d served had long since passed on. Dieter brushed aside such thoughts as he’d released the vanity and clutched a semi-moist cloth. He’d ran it along his face, erasing any evidence that he’d been crying. He couldn’t show the orphans he’d tended to such an ugly face. Once he was satisfied with his work, he’d set to the task of dressing himself. He’d elected to wear a simple dancer’s garment, an airy white robe that clung to his lithe silhouette, a fact that was concealed by the muted blue shawl he’d kept woven around his arms. His platinum blonde tresses cascaded down his back wildly, their undulating curls tickling the small of his back with each step.
He’d snatched a sealed letter from the same vanity and would slid it under Cass’ door. Should she’d open it, it was a simple request for her to accompany him to Low Town, it included a meeting spot and included a rather odd request – he wanted her to dance for a small audience. The orphans would likely be quite entertained by Cass, it would give him a much-needed break from them as he’d prepared their breakfast. He’d made his way down the stairs to the front desk which was manned by a Viera. He offered a polite smile as they handed him two parcels. One was an assortment of cuts of meat, some cockatrice stock, a variety of vegetables and herbs. What did the other one contain? It was filled with some well-worn books – to include low-tier grimoires. It also contained some wooden weaponry. He’d hafted both hefty parcel with a singular arm, revealing that despite his wiry frame that he possessed a surprising amount of strength.
He made his way through the crowded streets down into Low Town, smiling to himself as he was greeted by the excited shouts of Orphans – this was his own sanctuary. Yes, he’d emulated the very Humes he’d lived alongside and found his own refuge. This was where he’d hid from his past, burying the horrible things that he’d done beneath pleasant memories.

C assialyn was in a bit of an emotional state at the moment. The clan she'd grown to actually admire and trust had played her for a fool. They had set up some elaborate plan to ship her back to her family and betrothed. The woman already had so many trust issues, this did not help the matter. It made her even more leery of people and she hid the hurt behind her sarcasm and comments. It was a relief that some small clan had decided to follow the suspicious flyer out and managed to save her life. They had been a bit more violent than any group she'd even been with before, but they had saved her from Drake and the life he had planned for her. She had to trust them now because of that, right? She should just join their clan and repay her debt. It was a rather large debt to say the least. The blonde let out a soft sigh as she stared at the ceiling from the comfort of the bed they'd provided her for the evening. They did not want her out and about with the chance of a retaliation from the kidnapping clan. So, Cass stayed. She practically agreed to joining them the other day. What else could she do? If she was being honest, it was nice to not constantly be on the run. A night she was able to sleep the whole night without worry that she'd have to slip out in the dark to keep hidden. The soft sound of paper caught her ear as she sat up a bit. Her eyes moved immediately over to the door as she noted the white envelope on the floor. She shifted her body off the bed with a little effort and took a few steps to the door to pick up and read it. It was addressed to her. So, she calmly opened it to read the letter inside. It was a simple request from Dieter, the head of the clan that had rescued her. The man who cleaved a man's hand right off. He intimidated her more than she wanted to admit, even with his rather feminine appearance. Could she really deny the request? She didn't want to anger him. This was honestly the safest she felt in a while and she didn't want to mess up a good thing. So, Dieter wanted her to meet him at a location to dance for a small audience. She had absolutely no idea where the location he listed was, but she would have to figure that much out. The woman dressed in her dancer garb and collected her things after getting straightened up. She had managed to collect her things back at the clan before anyone was any the wiser. She always packed light and never unpacked the bag. She moved around too much. Once dressed and ready, she headed out with the small note. It took her a little bit to find the area that was mentioned in the letter. She'd been directed to it with some help from the locals. It certainly wasn't what she expected. It wasn't the best part of town either. As entered the area, she noted the blonde hair immediately. It was extremely strange to see all these children around him. So, she stood out of the way and watched for the moment. Folding the letter up carefully before putting it away into the envelope and tucking it back onto her person. Maybe he was not all that scary.

And while you are sitting indoors waiting for the storm to pass I will be outside dancing in the rain
The youth’s lips curved upwards into a genuine smile as the children swarmed about him – each one begging for a minute of his undivided attention. Why did he bother to care for the orphans, when no one else bothered to even spare them a fleeting glance? He couldn’t say for certain but he’d attributed it to an unspoken bond between them. He understood far better than most ever would what it meant to be abandoned – to have no driving ambition or purpose. It was a dread existence, a curse that he’d never wish upon another. His cerulean eyes glazed over as he’d lost himself in thought, actively trying to recall how many centuries had passed when he’d lived in a constant warzone? He was snapped back to reality by one of the children pulling playfully on the hem of his robes. He chuckled to himself as he’d reached down, gentling rustling the child’s hair as he’d gestured for them to let go. If he was being honest with himself, what he did for the children was equally for himself – it served as a form of redemption for the atrocities he’d committed in the past. He’d wordlessly reached up to truck a strand of his unruly flaxen tresses behind his ears as he’d made his way towards his makeshift kitchen. He’d set down the parcels he’d retrieved earlier, placing the one loaded with weaponry out of the children’s reach – last thing he needed was for one of them to accidentally poke out another’s eye. Once he’d spread out his supplies, he’d glanced up to notice Helios Ambition’s newest addition, the very woman he’d requested to entertain them for a bit. He’d greeted Cass with a polite wave and a heartwarming smile. In the very instance, it was hardly fathomable that the very man that stood before him was capable of the brutalities she’d bore witness too. “Children, this is one of my newest clansmen, she is quite the talented dancer... Be sure to thank her for coming down to play with you.” He spoke softly, his tone borderline maternal in nature. He’d nodded his head in appreciation at one of the elderly war veterans as they’d handed him a small dagger. A few more brought out a large cast iron pot. While he began to chop up the herbs, they’d set out to the task of filling it with water and pressing some kindling under it – broken remnants of furniture. He said nothing as he’d minced the medicinal herbs finally, chopping until nothing was left. Once he’d done that he’d began to place it by the handful in to the water. His hand extended towards the kindling, his brows knitted together in concentration. One could feel the very air shift around him, his lips quickly reciting a practiced verse. Upon its’ completion, an amaranthine conflagration flared to life in the palm of his hand – it wasn’t the typical manifestation of known fire magic. "Destruction of nature, gather in flame! Fire!"
He’d toyed with the flame for a moment letting it slip from his fingers and ignite the kindling. It would be a bit before the water would come to a rolling boil, which suited him perfectly fine. He still had to chop up some of the vegetables, fillet the meat into nice portions and add the cockatrice stock for added flavor and nutrional value. T he sight was certainly one to see. She found it hard to see the man in front of her being so soft, especially after his last display on that battlefield. The man seemed much stronger and hostile than he did right now. Honestly, there was something strange about him. The dancer just could not place her finger on it. What would cause such an outburst like the one everyone witnessed? Had their clan been through more than met the eye? With how quiet the other two members were, she could see there being some sort of past trauma. It would explain how easily Dieter had snapped. Cass just prayed she never be on the receiving end of his blade. The young blonde stayed with her back up against the wall next to the entry way to the building. Honestly, this had to be some sort of orphanage. With the amount of children here, that's what she'd guess. The woman really wasn't accustomed to this sort of existence. Having been born with a silver spoon in her mouth, she had always been so sheltered. It was hard to believe there were this many kids displaced without anyone to care for them. It was nice that Dieter felt this was a good cause to help with, getting help from other to do it. Or, she guessed that's what the other older adults were doing here. At least this wasn't something she minded donating some of her time to. She did not have much else to offer after leaving her home with little to nothing. A soft smile on her lips as she watched quietly, no one looking twice at her as she stayed out of the way. Most of the attention on Dieter himself. That is, until Dieter caught her hiding against the wall. Cass returned his polite wave with one of her own. Within an instant, Dieter announcing her presence to everyone in the room. She had not expected that. But, she honestly should have. Cass blinked a moment before the realization hit her. The young blonde pushed herself off the wall a bit before waving carefully to everyone in the room, staying completely quiet as all eyes turned on her and off Dieter for the second. All eyes but her own, watching as he took a small knife off one of the elders in the room. She did wonder what that was about. It took her another moment to realize that they were working to prepare a meal for the group of children. That was probably where she was supposed to come in. Keep the children occupied. Before she was able to speak up, a younger girl grabbed her hand and grinned at her, complimenting how pretty she was, just like how pretty Dieter was. Little kids really did say whatever they felt. Yeah, Dieter was 'pretty'. That was very amusing to her. Cassialyn smiled a bit, fighting the laugh that she didn't want to upset the little girl. "Thank you. But you're much prettier... just wait till you get a little older." She expressed quietly to the girl, watching the smile spread across her face before another asked when she was going to dance. "Um. I guess I can do that now...." Cassialyn was not used to this level of enthusiasm and excitement. It was extremely endearing that these conditions didn't destroy their spirit. It didn't take long for them to clear a small area for her to dance and for the little ones to sit to watch her. Honestly, she hadn't ever had a large group like this to watch her. Her talents were only used for combat. But, she could make some adjustments and transition some battle movements into this. She'd only come because Dieter had asked. The blonde did feel a bit indebted to him for rescuing her, even if this request was completely on the spot. Cassialyn moved to the small area that they had left her to perform before humming a lullaby her mother used to sing her a lot as a child. It would give her something to keep in time with. Dancing was nothing without some rhythm. She closed her eyes, took a soft breath, before raising one arm up and starting the dance. She moved he right arm up above her head first, her other arm nice and slow, not moving her feet at all yet. She leaned forward, stretching her arm out in front before leaning back with the other behind her. It was then that she began to move her feet in time with the song she was humming to herself. The dance was calm and slower at first until she did her first spin, the pace picking up after that, adding her dance steps for Fury in the mix. She knew that the colors from the magic would definitely be a nice mix to the dance. The kicks and her flexibility adding to the performance as she added a few little flairs and abrupt stopped and twists to the movement of her waist and arm movements. About halfway into the dance, she decided to use another of her abilities, Fly. But, not to the extent she did on the battle field. This only took her a few inches off the ground as she continued to twirl in time with the music in her head and off her lips. She took some of her movements from other's performances she had seen while learning the art. When she landed after the fly spell wore off, she took a few more steps and leaned forward before stopping and standing straight up, opening her eyes as she did. Her audience seeming to have enjoyed it more than they should have. Honestly, there was nothing special to it. All she did was move in time to music. But then again, she never seen herself dance before. Hopefully, she had distracted the children enough that Dieter could finish the meal with the others in time. Her crimson eyes glancing up in Dieter's direction. She liked to think that she impressed him a little, but she was sure that he was far too busy cooking than to watch at all. Especially with being left alone for the amount of time she'd bought him. Cass being stolen by some of the kids to teach them how she did some of the dancing. She was more than happy to teach as much as she could. After all, that's how she'd learned the profession.

| The Dark Knight remained silent, observing the situation, uncertain how the children would take to Cassialyn – he’d taught them to be distrustful of strangers. His attention shifted for a fraction of a second, momentarily turning towards the group of dishonored soldiers whom had returned from the Waterway. With a quick roll of his wrist, he’d mustered enough force to plunge the knife’s edge roughly an inch into the wood. Why did the disgraced soldiers always push themselves so hard? Was it perhaps because their sense of patriotism had never quite died, or maybe it was because they’d understood they still had duties that they could perform – ones that benefitted those forgotten by their beloved country. Dieter sighed to himself, many of the soldiers had either a bum leg or were missing an appendage entirely.
Despite his youthful, feminine appearance he understood their suffrage – he’d bore witness to centuries of it. Part of him wondered why he’d never grown numb to it? No, even now he still felt an overwhelming warmth blossoming within his chest. He’d admired these men because despite the hardships they’d endured, their fighting spirits had never once quavered. His head craned in Cassialyn’s direction as one of the children had grasped her hand, stammering on about how pretty she was. He felt his cheeks fluster when the same child blurted out that she thought he was pretty. He’d pitied her, if only she’d known the full truth, she wouldn’t look at him the same – none of them would. His attention snapped back to the men when he’d heard one let out a pained grunt, his knees threatening to buckle. His lips tightened into a firm scowl as he’d rushed over and hafted the pole from the man’s back.
“Don’t push yourself so hard… you know your leg hasn’t recovered.”
He spoke softly as he’d pivoted on his heel, effortlessly caring the pole with three sizable buckets full of water. Once he’d gotten back to his station, he’d knelt down and placed each one on the ground. He didn’t bother to pour the water in the cauldron as he’d known that some of the other veterans would tend to that task. Already, the cauldron had begun release a thick, rich fragrance – it smelt strongly of herbs and spices. He’d smiled to himself as he’d wrenched his knife free and began to chop up some of the last remaining vegetables. Once he’d dumped them into the pot, Cass had his full and undivided attention. He could hear the quite lullaby she’d hummed to herself, setting the rhythm for herself. His curiosity got the best of him, momentarily captivated by the intricoes of her dance.
When she’d finished, he’d clapped his hand once or twice, a notion that echoed through out the children. He chuckled to himself as he’d made his way through the crowd of children, playfully reaching down to ruffle their hair as he’d went.
“You were amazing, I’ll have to bring you down to see them more often. I think they’d like if you joined us for food before I take them hunting… it’s nothing major just some of the rats in the Waterway… they get big enough that it’s a sizable portion of meat and they can sell the pelts.”

I t was a shame that she didn't see the man blush. It would have probably made her laugh a bit to see him act so normal. After their exchange on the plain the other day, it was hard to believe that there was anything anywhere near sensitive about him. He'd sliced a man's arm off. How could he show any sort of emotion with how he'd smirked like he had. It was weird to see him so caring, helping the wounded war vet and taking care of these kids. But, it was all put aside when she danced. It was just nice that the kids were polite. A few of the children seemed to be a bit untrusting and distant. But, the youngest girl that had stolen her hand seemed to be just a typical child. She didn't seem to be as lost and shattered as the others, like the world hadn't been out to get her from the beginning. She prayed that the dance distracted them from their lives, at least for a few minutes. When she finished, she was surprised to hear the clapping. She glanced up and smiled softly at Dieter as he approached, fussing over the kids as he walked over and thanked her. Cass nodded at him as she clasped her hands together in front of her. She was a bit embarrassed to be honest. She'd only ever danced in battle and in the solitude of her quarters. She had done some basic movements when taught, but nothing like this. To be completely honest, it was slightly invigorating. Her red eyes meeting Dieter's at his invitation to join them for a meal. "Sure, I wouldn't mind joining..." She agreed as she nodded slightly. The kids talking amongst themselves now. She was a bit skeeved out at the thought that the food that she had just agreed to eat with the group was also rat like they planned to hunt today. But, she certainly was not going to say anything. She was sure that she had eaten worse.

| The Dark Knight nodded his head in acknowledgement, the corner of his lips twitched, curving ever so at the edges. He’d turned away from Cass in order to return to the cauldron, its’ medicinal contents had begun to simmer and bubble. He’d gingerly stirred the contents, taking care so as not to spill any of it as he’d ensured it hadn’t burnt to the bottom. Before he’d finished the task, the children jumped back and forth excitably as they’d formed a semi-chaotic line. An elderly woman emerged from her hut, handing each of the children a well-worn bowls – only a third of them received one. Before she’d joined the line herself, two more women emerged and passed out bowls to the remaining children the injured veterans. Dieter smiled to himself as he began to ladle the soup out, rhythmically filling each bowl to the brim.
Once he’d handled serving food to the denizen of Low Town, he’d filled the final two bowls – Cass’ and his own. He’d balanced them on his left forearm that was cradled to his chest, giving the half-filled cauldron one final stir. His stormy eyes settled on the amaranthine flame burning beneath the cauldron, the flames suddenly died down, stopping just short of going out entirely. Dieter himself didn’t eat with the children, no instead he’d sat a good bit away from them on an upturned crate. Once he’d seated himself and placed his bowl in the center of his lap, he’d patted the unoccupied portion of the crate and gestured for Cass to join him. Once she was within earshot, his lips parted as he spoke.
“I meant what I said out on the Plain… If that man ever came to pursue you again... I would show him there exist Fates that are worse than death… No one should be treated as if they are property..”
Oh, that was a tad bit ironic coming from him. Dieter had was borderline invisible. His hand left the side of his bowl as he’d caressed the brand. His stormy eyes softening, one could see that palpable pain hidden in their depth. It was fleeting though, disappearing just as quickly as it had come as he’d forced himself to smile. His head craned in the direction of the children, chuckling to himself as he’d watched some of their antics. They had perhaps fifteen-twenty minutes before they’d be ready for their second helping. Then it’d take perhaps another half-hour to get them all outfitted with a thick shawl and a weapon. From there, Dieter wasn’t quite certain how it would play out – normally the children headed his every word. That wasn’t to say that they didn’t have some hiccups. Sometimes the children got to cocky and bit off more than they could chew.
He’d visibly cringed as he’d thought of the time a Gigantoad had emerged from the murky depths. It’d almost managed to get a hold of one of the children before he’d cleaved its head open… Needless to say, the child was fine and they’d all eaten quite heartily that night – the rumor was true Gigantoad tasted just like cockatrice. He knew having some of the Veterans come with mitigated some of the risk, but having Cass accompany them definitely helped calm his nerves – she’d already proven she was more than a capable fighter.

C assialyn was extremely distracted by what could be in the soup. Honestly, she would be alright without the meat, even if it was something that was necessary for her diet. It wasn't like she probably didn't eat it before. She just didn't know about it if she had. It was all in her head now and she was completely aware. She'd just have to suck it up. the young woman stood out of the way as she let Dieter move back to the line to get the kids fed. It was extremely depressing to see that they were eating out of. She felt a bit guilty using one of the bowls. After the line was fed, Dieter dished them both a bowl. Honestly, she wondered why he'd brought her here. What was the point of it all? It couldn't have just been to entertain the kids for a few minutes. He barely knew her and couldn't have known if she was good or not. She wondered if there was an ulterior motive. Cass wasn't the most trusting soul in the world. Sadly, in her thoughts she had missed the flames going out. But his movement toward a small crate to sit did not go unnoticed. She watched him and took the hint to follow. It's not like she knew anyone else here other than the little girl that told her she was pretty. She followed his gesture and moved to sit with him when he spoke up. It was sweet to say, but it was a hard promise to keep. She didn't even know if she planned to stick around long term. She had never been in a clan more than a handful of weeks. She always had to keep moving. She didn't know if she could handle settling and getting comfortable with one group. "To be completely honest, I doubt he'll dare after yesterday..." She said, not mentioning any details. They were both there. She really didn't want to say much after what he did to that clan, not that she didn't want them to pay for their actions. They did deserve everything they got. "But thanks.... I should be able to handle myself though..." She hated the idea of relying on anyone. She'd been handling herself this well for this long. She didn't want to depend on anyone else. She took a few sips of the soup. It was surprisingly good, probably better than some places she had eaten before. "So, you been doing this long?" She asked about his taking care of the orphanage and the kids here. She didn't realize that he was inviting her on the hunt too, but it would be nice to get out and be distracted.

| The Archdaemon’s slender, alabaster fingers absentmindedly drummed against the side of his worn-down wooden bowl as he’d brought it to his lips. Dieter hesitated for a moment, pursing his lips as he’d blown on his soup in an attempt to cool it down – if only he could evoke Ice Magick he could have expedited the process. Once the broth was tepid, he’d begun quietly sipping on his stew as Cassialyn voiced her doubts. The feisty dancer admitted that she doubted Drake would bother to make any further attempts to pursue her. He’d nodded his head in agreement, certain that his parting words had broken the arrogant man, ensuring him that if he did so only one thing awaited him – the cold, frigid embrace of Death. Dieter tilted his bowl upwards, effectively concealing his mirthful grin behind the rim of his bowl. Oh, how he’d prayed that Drake was plagued by nightmares of their encounter – Fear showed the true colors of an arrogant man.
“ I agree Mi’Lady, ye are quite feisty.”
Dieter admitted with an audible chuckle, recalling how she’d broken Drake’s nose and smashed his foot in her desperate attempts to escape the brute. His muted laughter died down when Cassialyn inquired about how long he’d acted as a caretaker for the ragamuffin and orphaned children. He paused and set the half-emptied bowl down in his lap, nervously fidgeting with his bottom lip as he’d wracked his brain for an answer. Truthfully, he’d only been doing this a handful of weeks – just a little longer than he’d known either Ysera and Syel. However, he’d dedicated literal years to taking care of those orphaned by war or shunned by society. It was what had kept him grounded in Lord Belias’ absence, not to mention it gave him a purpose. He’d become these children’s sword and shield.
“Here? A bit longer than I’ve known Ysera and Syel… I’ve done this before though.”
He’d admitted quietly, his head craning in the children’s direction, noting how some had already emptied their bowl. He’d brought his own bowl to his lips and gulped down the remainder of its’ contents, wiping his lips with the back of his hand. He’d placed the bowl down on the edge of the crate as he’d rose to his feet.
“I do more than care for them though, I teach them how to survive, to support themselves and one another.”
He’d exclaimed as he’d made his way back over to the cauldron, tucking some of his flaxen tresses behind his ear as he’d prepared to ladle out some more soup. A few of the children had already went to one of the War Veterans and returned collectively carrying a worn crate brimming with an assortment of equipment. Once he’d handled dishing out the soup, he’d knelt down to the ground and helped the children slid into their light-weight leather armor. He’d lovingly tied knots in the back to secure the plates of cured leather to their torso.

C assialyn watched as Dieter tapped the side of his bowl. She almost wondered what was going on inside that head of his. What actually was going through it would certainly surprise her. Like that fact he was not even human especially. That was something she probably wouldn't be able to handle. Then again, who even knew. She barely knew the man next to her. It was honestly part of the reason she came. That, and the fact that she didn't want to get in trouble with him later on for not doing something he requested after he'd saved her life the day before. She did owe him at least a small debt for that. That's when Dieter commented to her and it made her smile. "I will take that as a compliment." The woman responded with a soft smile as she began to eat a bit of the soup. It was honestly rather good. Not anything like she had expected. Certainly not with his comments of hunting rat and using the meat. Her bright red eyes moved back to him as he became a little uncomfortable with her question. She had gotten better with distinguishing social queues. But, that didn't mean she was going to stop the questioning. That's when he answered with his backwards response. How was she supposed to know how long he knew the other two members of the clan she'd just joined. Did he think she was psychic along with being a dancer? Her eyes watched the bowl in his lap before he rose to his feet. Anything to get away from her, it seemed. Almost defending himself with his response about teaching them how to survive. Cass felt a bit annoyed as she started to half comment about his ridiculous response that didn't answer any questions. It was obvious on the blonde's face that she didn't like how he'd made his escape. What was really the point of being here if he wasn't going to try and tell her about himself and the clan to get her to stay. She wasn't going to stay with people she barely knew. That was part of the issue the last clan she was with. The one that she was liking so much she actually planned to stay longer term. That had turned out to be a mistake in itself. The dancer moved, finishing the food so she could go and see how she could help the little bit she could. Honestly, growing up with everything being done for her made simple tasks difficult. She was sure that most of the people here knew how to do much more for themselves than she did. She made sure to pass close by Dieter as she started to help lace up the leather chest piece. "That wasn't an answer, so you're aware. I can find out myself if you won't tell me." She expressed as she collect some empty abandoned bowls to bring in the kitchen to help clean up. She wasn't really completely sure if she was supposed to go out on this hunt with the group or not. Though, she'd find out shortly.

| Dieter’s lips pursed together, a forlorn sigh escaping from in-between as Cassialyn maneuvered around him. His feisty comrade made it a point to remind it that he’d never quite answered his question, tacking on that she was capable of finding the answer on her own. His facial muscles tightened, his frustration momentarily visible as he’d continued to make the last knot or two in the worn cording. He’d remained silent as the Dancer dutifully secured the leather chest piece to one of the children. He’d hated to admit it but she’d made a valid point, Dieter hadn’t bothered to answer her question directly. No, he’d cryptically skittered about, picking and choosing his words with care – afraid of accidentally revealing his true nature. Once Cass had finished securing the armor, she’d immediately moved onto what she’d perceived as the next task – gathering up the dirtied dishes for the elderly women.
He’d tugged on the child’s armor lightly, testing the knot that he’d tied once or twice before he proceeded to rise to his feet. His left arm dubiously drifted across his torso, his left hand firmly gripping his elbow as he’d followed after Cass. He’d stood at the threshold of the door for perhaps fifteen seconds before he’d dared to enter. He’d spoke softly, his voice never quite rising above a hushed whisper – it didn’t help that he was starring down at the ground either. His tone was genuine, although it held an edge of uncertainty. He knew that Cass had been through much in the last twenty-four hours, he also knew she’d seen a side of him that he’d tried to keep buried – he refused to let himself lapse back into such a life. His clansmen had unknowingly seen a ghost of Dieter’s daunting past, they’d seen what he’d been like when he’d first left the Empyreal Plains.
Truthfully, he’d lacked self-control then, he’d felt the need to prove himself to Belias – unaware he’d done so the day he’d been selected as his Vassal.
“Sorry… I suppose Ysera and Syel have known me for perhaps two months… I don’t speak of my past much…”
Dieter apologized and attempted to rectify the divide he’d created, also exclaiming that he didn’t prefer to talk about his past. It made sense though, Dark Knights weren’t particularly known for living luxurious lives. The very path they’d walked was once lined by the corpses of their enemies. In the first five minutes of them meeting, Cass had witnessed him cleave some Knight’s arm off. Not only that, she’d watched him taunt a Monk, refusing to allow him to get anywhere near his fallen comrade – not quite the best first impression.
“Are you going to join us for the hunt? The elderly women don’t mind tending to the dishes since we provide their food.”
Dieter inquired, nervously drumming his fingers upon his elbow.

I t was almost too obvious that she made him uncomfortable. It was such a relief seeing as she was the one that felt way more uneasy. The fresh emotions were a nice change to be completely honest. She was worried that he was so much scarier than he had already revealed. But now, he seemed more human and down to earth. Cass smiled faintly as she focused on the armor knot. Once she was done, she let Dieter check it while leaving him behind. The way he half followed her hesitantly into the kitchen proved that she had hit a nerve with saying she would find out independently if he didn't cough it up. It worked and she almost didn't believe it as he explained how long he had known Syel and Ysera. "Apology accepted...and it's alright. I'm not the biggest fan of my own seeing as I'm still trying to get a hang of this living day to day thing." She commented. None of the group here knew that her family was well off. Though, she was sure she'd been disowned by this point in time. Only two months though? The way he moved about the place, it had to be longer. Though, what would she know about it. It's not like she had ever done this before. "What made you want to help? You just happen upon the place one day?" She asked as she let the older woman take over at Dieter's statement, being shooed off to go on the hunt. She didn't even question that. It was nice that they had this little sense of community in such a small little place. Even the smallest bit of kindness seemed to help as she moved to stand with Dieter after being kicked out of the kitchen. Her eyes moving to the kids as they got themselves situated to go out for the hunt. A good chunk of them seemed rather excited about the en-devour. Though, she was not quite sure how much she could help. She had a few physical attacks and an athame. But, nothing much else to assist. She'd probably be more of a hindrance than anything. Unless this was some ploy to teach her how to defend herself better. She had put on a rather poor show the day before failing to get away from Drake on her own.
(Lmao, I meant that she watched him lace up the armor... but that typo actually turned out better~ <3)

| Dieter’s rigid expression visibly soften as the corner of his lips twitched, gradually shaping themselves into a half-hearted smile – clearly, he was elated by the fact Cassialyn had accepted his apology. He nodded his head sympathetically, cognizant of the Cassialyn’s newfound plight. It was one that he’d faced in the wake of Lord Belias’ disappearance, recollecting how the simplest things had become daunting and seemingly impossible tasks. A part of him cracked under the pressure, his emotions ran wild, and he’d ended up caving to his carnal desires – he’d gone on an uncontrolled rampage. He was uncertain how long he’d wallowed before he’d begun his ongoing search for his Master.
“It is hard, but I promise ye it gets easier with each passing day.”
Dieter retorted, his tone calm and gentle – almost motherly. He’d made a gesture towards the children, they’d taken it as a signal to join him and Cassialyn. He’d gave each of them a playful smile as he’d knelt down, his hands busying themselves with tying a variety of knots. His alabaster fingers with practiced ease, his action suggesting he’d done this more than a handful of times – he’d laced up his Lord’s armor nearly everyday for years. He’d paused when Cassialyn inquired about his reasoning behind helping the children, curious to how he’d stumbled upon the Low Town. It hadn’t been particularly hard, misery often made its’ presence known in subtle ways. He’d recognized the telltale signs be it the defeated gaze in the children’s eyes, the fact that they’d tried to pick pockets. He’d chuckled to himself, fondly remembering the day the tyke in front of him had tried to pilfer his pocket.
“One of them tried to pick my pocket… I followed them… Why do I help? I suppose it’s’ because I know how they felt… I’ve been where they are.”
Dieter admitted quietly, his gaze downtrodden for an instance. A pained sigh escaped from between his lips as he’d rose from his knelt position. He’d ushered the children out the door, gesturing to their crate of weaponry, urging them to pick out one that they felt comfortable with.
“No one deserves to live like this… forgotten, abandoned, without hope… It is why I didn’t stand idle… I pursued your clan because that coward called you his property… everyone deserves to be free.”
He’d admitted to Cassilyn, revealing what had fueled his rampage against her clan – such a simple reasoning was the reason some of those people had been granted eternal slumber. Dieter’s hand darted out to the door frame, gripping it for an instance before he’d shoved himself off and made his way to the crate. He’d pulled out a crudely made short-sword, swinging it once or twice to get a feel for its’ weight and balance – it felt like a feather compared to his own blade.
“Come my children, let us hunt!”
His shout was met with the excitably cries of the children, some of whom thrust their weapons above their head. Not a single one bothered to move though, they’d fell into a loose formation behind Dieter as he began to make his way towards the Waterway. He’d paused to look over his shoulder to confirm if Cassialyn was joining them or not.

C assialyn had missed the subtle smile that had appeared on Dieter's face. Honestly, she wouldn't have expected him to get to excited over something like that. It wasn't like she was angry with him or anything. Or even that what he had done was unforgivable. Though, she was still a bit leery with him. The dancer still felt that there was something beneath the surface that no one else could see. There had to be some reason for the way he had snapped the other day. It wasn't normal to enjoy bloodshed that much. To be honest she was surprised he hadn't killed everyone there yesterday with the way he reacted. But it did not matter. She was grateful to his rescue and she felt a bit indebted now. The young dancer glanced at the man when he spoke again, almost expressing that he felt the same. It was a bit odd to hear seeing as he appeared to have everything in it's place. He seemed rather content and secure. Though, looks could be deceiving. She had been barely making it day to day the last few years with having to keep under the radar. The last thing she ever wanted was for Drake to find her. Now she could take on bigger jobs if she felt she could handle them. It would be nice to be able to keep sleeping in the nice warm beds and order a warm meal that wasn't a simple broth. Not that she was complaining. It was apparent that people weren't even getting a meal a day. It felt a bit selfish. "I'll take your word on that. Sometimes it does not feel like it." She smiled, faintly amused that they were talking like this. Dieter changing his focus to fixing the children's armor for the hunt, speaking with her as he did. It was amusing to hear that one had decided to pick pocket him. That would certainly be one way to find out about this place. It was probably the only way. She had barely found it and she'd been told how to get there. The weird part was thinking that Dieter had been like these kids before. She wasn't aware that he'd been an orphan too. Sometimes she wished she was herself. The group moved outside to collect their weapons for the hunt. She was fine with her Athame and dancer skills. If it was some simple rats, she didn't need much else. Not that she could reasonably handle anything much bigger than her glorified dagger. He eyes watching the children and Dieter as they shouted to start off after everyone selected the weapons they wished to use. She noted the subtle pause and glance from Dieter, knowing he was waiting to find out if she was joining or not. She knew she'd been invited from the conversation in the kitchen. But, in his defense, she really had not answered him. "I'm coming. I just don't know how much help I'll be...." She admitted as she moved to catch up and walk with him.
