[break][break]
The Queen of Alexandria’s head hung low, her head draped atop of her knees, chin resting comfortably in the crevice created by their union. At one point or another, Dagger had gripped her own wrist, deliberately pulling her knees further into her own chest. Even in the midst of her brief slumber, her thoughts turned back to the announcement she’d made during the dinner that had marked the reunion of her friends. The soured expression of some of her devoted soldiers had been vividly engrained in her mind, despite their objections, they’d remained silent when she’d confessed she intended to leave Alexandria’s well-being to a cabinet of her design. Its’ head was Doctor Tot, its’ advisors included not only Reagent Cid and Hilda, but a few of her other trusted confidants. [break][break] Those few would manage the welfare of the Kingdom of Alexandria, ensuring the safety and health of the many – a task she’d undertook herself for the past two years. Why had she done so? Garnet had revealed her own tragic secret, how her connection with the God’s of Gaia had begun to wane, how only one responded to her pleas and answered her call – Ramuh. The Fulgarian had confined in her and Zidane in the Royal Courtyard, if she wished to prevent her ties from being severed entirely, she needed to relocate her beloved summons, remember their lessons, rediscover the part of herself she’d denied in order to rule her Kingdom, and most importantly reprove that she was worthy of their might. [break][break] Deep down, Dagger was fully aware of what awaited her, should she fail this daunting task. Her tie would be severed, the Gods of Gaia would once again roam free, their might unchecked and subject to the will of another worthy candidate. If none arose, they two were destined to become like Ozma, a process that would be accelerated greatly if their lore and mythos was forgotten. For the time being, Garnet had forgone inviting all of her friends, reassuring Vivi, Freya, Amaranth, Steiner and even Beatrix that to tame both Shiva and Ifirit, the only two she had an inkling of their location, it’d be best if she’d undergone it with just Zidane. [break][break] Why? Part of it was because their smaller group meant that they could travel faster, required less supplies, attracted less attention and most importantly, she didn’t want them to witness her shortcomings – should she fail. Garnet’s slumber abruptly ended by the sound of the canvas tarp that covered the caravan being rustled. Her mahogany eyes groggily opened, her head instinctively craning to the left as she’d searched for Zidane, her uncertain where he’d wondered off to for the time being. A disheartened slip unknowingly slipping from between her lips, her heart aching in the temporary absence. Oh, how she’d grown to crave his touch, his presence, perhaps there was truth the eulogy – distance made the heart grow fonder. [break][break] After a moment, her head tilted to the right, her gaze settling upon the elderly man who had offered them passage in his caravan. A soft smile played at her lips as she’d rose to her feet, habitually brushing any dust or debris from her attire before she’d moved forward. Her hand drifting to the white mage cowl she’d wore, deliberately pulling its’ hood up so as to hide most of her features. A playful wink given to the elderly man as she brought a lone finger to her lips, an unspoken secret shared between the two. This exchange was complete with Garnet passing off a small pouch, one that was threatening to burst at the seams, its’ content nothing more than Gil. Before he could protest, she leapt from the back of the caravan, her wedged anklet boots connecting solidly with the ground. [break][break] "Zidane?"Garnet spoke aloud, scanning the twilight-touched surroundings. In the distance, Garnet could hear the sound of the detestable spiders as they’d skittered about in the overgrown sections of weeds. Her hand reaching behind her to unfasten the racket she’d bound to her back, fully prepared to engage any foe that dared stand in her way to resecuring and ensuring the continuity of Gaia’s peacetime. With a practiced roll of her wrist, she’d brandished her rod and charged up one of her concussive blasts, an act that took less time than her blinking once or twice. Before she verified the aggressor, Garnet launched a lone blast into the rustling brush, gesturing for the caravan driver to hurry along to Dali – it simply wasn’t safe for one such as himself. Dagger's decision had been made. Ice Cavern was to be their first goal in search for her scattered Eidolon. He had done his best to be her emotional support during the dinner as she revealed to her friends what it was she had decided. He had felt out of place during it all. Freya's teasing jab at his outfit aside, he would become self conscious about the sort of person he could be for his friends. There was no doubt that he would always support them and take up any trial they had to face and stand at their side without a second thought! In that he was reliable! But so was everyone else...Amarant had taken up a position as a protector of sorts on the castle grounds. Freya and Fratley were rebuilding their kingdom. Tantalus did their best for Lindblum and in Alexandria they had pulled themselves from that dark place. But still it was hard. The aftermath of war strained an already tired people suffering from being overworked, underpaid and underfed. Labour remained on the backs of the poor in Alexandria and while the caste system was a touch different in Lindblum: the artists would face ridicule for their indifference to the events, the large bohemian population had little to give in the way of labour as had the engineers and workers. Zidane took the brunt of that being part of the troupe. Having little to no trade skills their help was sometimes seen as a hindrance. While Baku laughed it off, giving the gang strength, Zidane felt insulted. For a while he was unsure why their accusations had made him so angry. It wasn't until a year ago, meeting two off worlders, had he come to realize what it was that bothered him about it. Traveling across Gaia with these strangers and watching how everyone struggled to get back to their old lives, their own worlds -- working hard to rebuild everything... He had realized that he didn't want to go back to his old life. He didn't want to be some thief who's reputation was his ability to never forget a girl's name. He loved the stage and theater. He was like to never stop putting on plays. ...because they made Dagger happy. That was what he wanted. He wanted to see her happy, to see her at peace. To be able to see her face every day that he got up was a dream he -- couldn't have. He was ... a bohemian. But he couldn't do it. He couldn't be without her after they had been through so much together. Throughout their journey they both had changed. While, in essence, they were still the same princess and thief who had stole away on an adventure across the globe: they had changed."I changed..." He murmured to himself as his eyes fluttered open, the clear skies above him.He had been in the wagon with his queen and watched as she fell asleep. He had become uncomfortable, not with their proximity, but the odious humors of his own anxiety. They sat close for much of the ride, the rogue seemingly protective of his beloved, but he had just wanted to sit close to her, listen to her breathe. It hadn't been long after that her breaths had become shallow. She had fallen asleep. The whole debacle had her on edge. He was sure she barely lasted the night asleep and pushed herself to go through the day without shedding a tear of frustration. "I told you it was okay to cry... you can lean on my shoulder..." He had whispered gently to her before leaning in to kiss her forehead. He escaped to the top of the wagon and watched their trail for a while. His mind drifted off into a light doze as he considered how he could exercise his abilities a little more and prove himself to Dagger. Their first stop was Treno. They spent a short time there picking up some necessities. After that it was a long ride from the North Gates through winding, treacherous mountain trails. It wasn't until he heard the rattling of Dali's Gates that the rogue had roused from his light slumber. They came to a stop. His last thought, as he woke from his self reflection rippled across his thoughts, before the doubt was swiftly buried.Could I become something like that for Dagger? He sat up and stretched his limbs out before he looked down over the edge as he heard his name carry from the lips of his beloved. Jumping down the rogue landed with relative ease a few steps from her. Stretching out he released a satisfied groan before reaching behind himself to scratch at his rear, the restless tingles of waking before one was ready. "We here?" Though it didn't look like it. He would adjust his waistbelt, scabbard rattling on his hip as he turned his gaze to where she struck. The bushes rattled from the violent gust of wind ripping through before settling. Nothing seemed to charge at them. Had it been scared away? "Uh, hey you okay?" She seemed to be jumping at nothing as he hadn't taken notice of any critters stirring, but he had been so far lost in his thoughts... "You sure about this Dagger?" His arms raised up to fold behind his head as his blue gaze lingered on the mangled shrubbery. The dense forests only sparsely littered the plateau, but it still would be no easy journey. Rabid beasts hid in the tree lines and even hungrier ones swooped from above. The rogue could not help but feel a bit tense. Maybe it was the nostalgia nipping at his heels. It had been ages since he came to Dali. The last time had been with Dagger, Vivi and Steiner. The summoner had still been recovering a bit from her experience in the Evil Forest, of which still lay petrified to this day. The freedom stirred up her desire to fit into the wide world she was entering. His arms fell to his sides when he realized he still had that knife... She would probably be less thrilled to know that the blade in question was stolen property, but such was like to be unsurprising as well. He kept that blade in a small scabbard on the small of his back, while the Mage Mashers, procured from Baku during a scuffle, sat on his hip.Their goal was the Ice Cavern, but they wouldn't be climbing up this time, but going down. How much of it had changed, he wondered. "You know I'm right here with you." He grinned sheepishly as he pulled at his gloves cuffs, making sure the guards were secure. "You can count on me!" He blustered more proudly and held out his hand to her.
He just wanted to be -- something more. MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS

Garnet’s attention remained fixated on the dense spattering of trees and brush in the distance, her grip on her racket redoubling once again as that skin-crawling screech resonated across the miniature plateau. No doubt, Zidane, her beloved would have noticed the way that the corner of her lips had curved upwards ever-so, her head purposefully craning in her beloved’s direction, that mischievous smirk quickly filling out the remainder of her face – a silent “I told you so.”. If she’d kept her gaze straight ahead, no doubt, Garnet would have seen the chitlin-plated extremity daringly inch its’ way out from within the brush, a visible crack closer to the carapace steadily oozed a phlegm green ichor. By the time it had made its’ presence apparently, a few of its’ comrades, numbering in four total, had begun their steady descent from the trees, streams of silk supporting their gravity-defying approach. A shiver ran down the length of the Alexandria Queen’s spine, she’d never confined in anyone, but she detested spiders, especially those whom had been influenced by the Mist prior to its’ dismissal – the result was their colossal size. [break][break] No doubt, Garnet would have been more at ease if Steiner and Vivi were present, early on in their adventures, the four of them had dispatched with these critters with practiced ease. Her thoughts escaped her for a moment, memories of their near-death encounter within the Ice Cavern resurfacing, followed shortly by their stay in Dali Village. Once upon a time, the Dali Village had been in the process of manufacturing Black Mage, in their attempts to make some extra Gil, some of the villagers had gone so far as to kidnap Vivi. Her cheeks flustered vibrantly as she’d recalled sneaking into one of the shipping barrels to avoid capture, only to be inadvertently groped by her husband, whom had remarked about the tenderness of her nether regions. In a way, karma had reared its’ head for Zidane’s inadvertently perversion, Steiner had stabbed the side of the barrel, nearly skewering the both of them as he’d investigated the source of the noise. [break][break]
Needless to say, what transpired from there had been far-less light-hearted as they encountered the second of the three Black Waltz. Garnet shook her head, banishing the resurfacing memories as she’d returned her attention to the present, noting how the spiders had only just managed to progress beyond the threshold of the forest, the four of them chittering in a menacing manner. Though, they seemed enraged, it was apparent that they had no desire to leave the refuge provided by the woods. Her grip upon her weapon slackened after a few more tense seconds, carefully slinging it around onto her back and holstering it in a singular strap bandolier that ran directly beneath the satchel she’d elected to fill with supplies from Treno. Garnet briefly returned her attention to the chittering arachnids, whom waved their engorged limbs menacingly before they began to retreat back into the woods. [break][break] In the absence the ever-present threat, Garnet’s attention shifted from the distant woods to Zidane. Without a singular word, Garnet reached out, her leather-clad hands gently cradling the side of her beloved’s face, gently tracing some of his more defined features until her finger tips rested beneath his chin. She took a step closer to him, her smile intensifying as she wrapped her arms around him, burying her head into his chest for a split second – momentarily abandoning her fears, her concerns and her self-doubt. In the meantime, Garnet readjusted the invisible ramparts, steeling her resolve and suffocating the urge to let even a single tear trickle down the side of her face; she had to remain strong as the journey had only just begun. A few seconds passed without any outbursts minus the periodic jerking of her shoulders, Garnet inhaled sharply bathing herself in Zidane’s scent as she reluctantly pulled herself back. [break][break]
“Thank you, Zidane… I know I can” [break][break]
Garnet said softly, her voice threatening to break as she’d forced herself to speak. Perhaps, just maybe, Zidane didn’t realize how much she’d grown to rely on his presence – whether or not he was physically there. Hell, half of the time he’d been away, he’d still managed to act as her anchor, silently reassuring her from afar. Be it memories of his laughter, his shit-eatting grin, or even the resolute expression in his eyes as he’d prepared to say goodbye, to go off on yet another grand adventure of his own – no longer would he have to depart on his own.

Cold
So cold.
Why had she come here? To put it simply it was curiosity. Curiosity as to the identity of energy she felt. She had no idea what it was, who it was or anything else. All she did know is that it was strong. That was something desired... Whether it meant taking it, studying it. Or anything else. That's what she needed to do right? That was how she'd get her revenge. That ws ssomrthing she couldn't let herself doubt the truth of.
Cold, cast fire, don't stay still.
The blackined fire burned in her palm, it and her light cloak the only things fighting off this cold. This was her third recast and the flames still couldn't fight anything off. Had to keep moving, find this source. Even if it wasn't something she could use purpose she could gather somethung to sell. A secluded place like this area... All the cold. The only thing she had seen so far were monsters but no people. Because of that she had reson to believe even if the source of the magic itself was useless, perhaps she could find items to sell for her food budget. Ether way this journey wouldn't be a waste in that case. Food or strength. Ether would do, she desired both.
Just had to keep moving, recast fire-don't stop moving. The quicker she finished her objective the quicker She could get back to better sources of heat. She was sure emost people would have turned back from this westher a long time ago. But she couldn't afford to. If she was to have her revenge... To claim justice for her parents she had to get stronger, strong enough to strike that man down-forever. If that meant fighting through this blistering cold she would!
For hours now she had done this. She knew, most people would probably think her foolish, going this cold for only the chance something useful to her might bw there. But... She didn't care! She didn't... Care...
Her eyes blurred as she looked in front of her. A cavern entrance. There.. that was. Yes.. she wasn't the foolish one! She could feel it better now... In there. Just had to go a bit farther and...
But instead her body fell to it's knees, unable to keep going in this cold.
"Uggh..."
Her fire went out, she tried to re light it but try as she might she lacked the energy. She looked up at the cavern once more, trying to focus her vision on it, she frowned in disappointment.
"D...dang it..."
Her body collapsed fully to the ground, so close to her target. So close to something that might help.
So... Close..
Then her vision went black and she finally lost consciousness.

Zidane did not often find himself longing to stay in any one place. It was not the nature of a Bohemian, he used to tell himself. It wasn't possible for him to be tied down to any one place. The life of thief was a much more rewarding one. Being a rogue was always such a romanticized role across tales told over the ages. Even his own world wrote dreams of it in books and sang their praises in plays. From leading rogues whose only life view was to steal from the rich and restore the poor to cloud sailing brigands searching for riches around the world, if only to save their own brother from the greed of a sultan... Swashbuckling heroics had never been a life Zidane fancied for himself, though it was always expected of him. It wasn’t who he was, nor who he had ever dreamed of being. Dagger herself knew that, as far as he could remember, he had always wanted…
His eyes slipped close, the corner of his lips pulling up into a grin as Dagger’s gloved hands cupped his face ever so gently. “...home.” His voice was soft, uttered under the roaring hail of wind from the canyon peaks. The menacing beasts were hardly given a second thought under the gentle gaze of his beloved. He was not sure what he had done to earn for favor, but he was positive it was not something he planned to ever lose, so no matter where he was, or where she journeyed he was disinclined to stray from her side or thoughts. He wanted to permeate every inch of her being and become a constant presence in her life. Someone she could never forget. But it was not as if she wasn’t already that to him. Even far from home she was a constant thought. His dreams were filled with her face and the empty space between his thoughts were filled with her melodic voice as she sung their song….Her warmth against his body, though but momentary, seemed to last a lifetime. Gloved digits wanted to knit together to keep her trapped against his form, but instead he would brush a hand along her back to reassure her. He knew this was difficult for her and perhaps it was harder because she had lost them due to her own neglect. It was nothing she could help… she had so much to do now, but he was there to help her! When they separated he visibly sunk for a moment: shoulders sinking and tail drooping. It wasn’t until a sound caught his attention. “Did you hear that?” It was unlikely.Zidane’s senses were honed to his environment and while oft times such instincts were ignored in lieu of action it was obvious something was off. His eyes traced along the entrance of the Ice Cavern, taking note of the familiar glow of fire kissing along the mouth of the entrance, though in this case: its exit as they were coming in from Treno’s roads. “Do ya think Mois is trapped in ice again?” While the foul mouth moogle had a habit of rocking a sailor’s vocabulary he wasn’t a bad little guy. “Come on!” Of course, Zidane would rush off without a second thought. Despite his aggressive denials of hating the romanticized portrayals of rogues or the heroic ventures of bandits saving towns from the siege of an evil emperor… he sometimes fit the billing of the roles he hated to play… He rushed into the cavern! In response to Zidane’s inquiry, Garnet’s body visibly tensed, her body mechanically adjusting itself so that her shoulders were squared towards the entrance of the Ice Cavern. Her shoulders visibly tensed as Garnet’s grip on her racket slackened for an instance, permitting a fresh supply of blood to permeate her fingertips, color momentarily returning to her knuckles. While she herself hadn’t perceived the thud of a small semi-frozen body, the Alexandrian Queen placed a great deal of trust in Zidane’s honed senses, knowing that they rivaled and even surpassed some of the Mist’s spawn. A few seconds lapsed by; Garnet’s chest remained statuesque as she’d awaited an illusory swarm of beasts to spill from the frigid lips of the cavern. Fortunately, Zidane dispelled the tension with ease, half-heartedly suggesting that one of the Mognet Moogle, Mois, had gotten himself encased in ice once again. [break][break] If she’d recalled, Mois’ vocabulary had an abrasive edge to it, harsh enough to make even the seediest of Noble’s cheeks flushed. Though, at the heart of the matter, Mois had always been kind to herself and her friends; periodically assisting her with personal matters of delivering secretive letters between Zidane and herself. No matter the distance, the Mognet Central never ceased to amaze her, diligently keeping its’ promised delivery dates and being unduly patient with her constant pestering. Yes, she’d known it wasn’t behavior befitting of a Queen, yet, it mattered naught when it came to matters of the heart. Still, those letters paled in comparison to the infrequent visits from Zidane, a faint smile playing at her lips as she’d ascended the remainder of path, recalling her late-night entourages with a certain Thief. [break][break] What made those memories all the more cherished were the stern expressions of Beatrix and Steiner, both of whom voiced their disappointment in her – citing that her antics were childish and caused no shortage of stress upon the Knights of Pluto and Alexandrian Guard. Frankly, Garnet was still surprised she’d managed to worm herself out of those particularly sticky and undesirable berating, often times squirreling herself away to do more research or envying between the Kingdoms as penance. Such thoughts were dismissed with a shake of her head as she’d came to the mouth of the cavern. At first, she almost didn’t notice the small cloaked figure that was laying face down in the snow, that was until she saw the snow being bustled about. [break][break] Garnet’s heart began to pound in her chest as she’d rushed forward, recalling countless incantations, the air around her growing heavy as the density of the ambient mana in the air intensified as she began to channel a multitude of spells. Protect, Haste, Cure Garnet reciting to herself as defensive bulwark of magic encircled the fallen child, encapsulating her entirely, an added level of strain added by creating an omni-directional shielding that lifted her out of the snow. Next, came the invigorating wave of curative magick that attempted to abate and repair and traces of frostbite – not to mention restarting the metabolic process. Lastly, came the rush of energy as Haste was being utilized to further increase that metabolic process, stimulating the cells in such a way to increase the amount of body heat the child could generate. [break][break]Only time would tell if her efforts would bear fruit or if this was just another tragic event she was forced to bear witness to.

Blurry eyes slowly crept open, gentle warmth entered her and healing energy enveloped her. Who...? Where was that coming from? She had been alone, right? So why did this gentle light touch her now? Why was warmth now returning to her body, fighting off the frost that had consumed her? This gentle feeling... It felt nice, she could feel her body slowly recovering to a state where she could fully open her eyes, though her vision remained just as blurred. Her hazy vision gave way to things thst coudn't possibly be there. As she looked up at the words flowed from her mouth despite the impossibility of it all.
"Mom...? Dad...?"
But then her her vision cleared, the illusion her weakness played in her broken. She was such a fool. Her mom and dad were gone forever, of course these two wearn't them. Why would they even be on some forign world. The young girl blushed in emberisment at her words to these strangers, rolling her way out of the protectice magical field once she could move. Landing back on the snow she frowned at the now clear figures before her. A brown haired girl and a blonde one, both older than her, but not as old as her parents. She reslly must have been in a state to make such a mistske, she was disapointed in herself, ashamed to havr made the mistake. They shared some physical similarities sure... But they were also clearly different people noe that she got a good look. She took a deep breat and eased her way back to her feet. She wasn't a hundred percent yet but she refused to just lie in the snow. More focuses eyes looked down her rescuers. Why had, specifciully the woman with kind eyes. Why had they bothered with her.
"I am... Sorry to burden you mam, sir. Sorry you had to waste energy on someone like me"
The mage sighed, she held no disdane for the pair, of course. If anything she was grateful to this kind woman for saving her, even if she didn't know why. She was only ashamed of her own weakness, that she could not handle this trip herself. She would ooen and close her hands, testing her reflexes sowly, then checking to make sure she still had all her possesions. Of course those possesions were just a few items and the staff on her back but it woudn't do to lose them. First she would give a bow to the male, then turned to face her healer she would do the same, though speaking up as well.
"Thank you miss... For saving me, I... I appriciate it... I don't know how to repay you I..... Hmmm"
She wasn't the best at these sort of things. She was more used to trying to ignore others sense her parents passed. But she coudn't just be rude like that to a person that saved her life.. She might offer payment in return but she didn't have much on her. All she could truly offer was her thanks... hopefully that was enough.
"Ah... Right proper edicate! I should introduce myself! I'm... Astrisia, a mage. That's... Theirs not much else to say, apoligies"
She crossed her arms, thinking that over in her head. Had she done that right? She hoped so. She really didn't want to mess this up, that would be way to emberssing.

The Moogle had been nothing short of vital when it came to the correspondence twixt the Alexandrian Queen and traveling bohemian prince. A solicitor of dreams Zidane's troupe was the envy the world over amongst storytellers, however small that pool may be. Having lived the horrors of the world's near calamitous end themselves it was a difficult responsibility to mandate just who wrote the history of their actions. While the queen was a scholarly leader her militant companions has seen it very differently. There was no greater fuel for tales of intrigue than having lived them oneself! There was a place where they never met . There is a time they never saw eye to wye. Maybe he could have lived one lifetime without her by his side, but the very thought created a drowning sense of turmoil. Everything he has become or yet to be, he felt, was thanks to the many times she has come to intervene in his life and question his stupidity. In this he too felt that he has made a difference in her life and left her down fateful meetings and partings that neither of them could have done without. Zidane knows, in his heart of hearts, that the real thief here was not he, but the princess who kept his heart hidden beneath her sleeve as he tried to run away from the sensation of her fingers over his drumming muscle. The thoughts were embarrassing, reaching up a gloves finger to rub at his cheek. He allowed his arms to lower once the thoughts had cleared from his mind, the self doubt doing well to distract from the cold, but causing him to hurt terribly. He hurried along her side making sure he maintained a pace that kept him at her side. " ”It's always easier the second time around," he considered of their return trip through the cavern. " This time we can keep each other warm~" Always such a lascivious boy when it came to his girl. Zidane couldn't imagine Mois getting frozen and fettered like he has before, but Moogles have done some pretty reckless things that even Zidane would have learned twice over from! The thief had often found himself amidst the pickles of his own proving when he had some bright idea! Though it was not quite arrogance, and the boastful often had naught to back up their best with: Zidane more often than not backed up his words with action! Most of the… Rolling his arms to loosen his limbs: the rogue's steps were measured with light and even paces that kept him on his toes. Those wayward thoughts would had no place here! It was hard to determine if he was always just ready to fight or had impatience that was wide as he was clever. It did grant him an air of carelessness, but he was focused on doing this right. This was important to Dagger and it would make him look really uncool to let his impatience be the cause of failure this time around. He would jump back when something, someone moved about on the snow covered grounds. Dagger had been quicker than he and noticed it was someone in need of help. It looked to be a girl no older than Eiko herself! " Whoa! Are you okay?!" He wasn't expecting such a serious kid and would throw his hands in the air. " Hey, you gotta relax. There shouldn't be a reason to have to help others." He thought it strange for helping to ever be considered burdensome. " Uhh name's Zidane!" He declared proudly, after a moment of stumbling mentally to find his path back to the forefront. " What's a kid doing way out here? Hopefully not hunting treasure, 'fraid this place was only rich with flora and fauna." The crystalline flowers and icy ferns gave then cavern a beauty unique to it. While at first it had begun to melt, nearly setting free its captives, it had returned to its frozen state, which was caused by an outside force. At least Zidane felt confident in that!
