From a young age, Garnet possessed an insatiable curiosity, one that was fostered by Doctor Tot – whom introduced her to the wonders of literature. Most notably, is Garnet’s all-time favorite, Lord Avon’s “I Want to Be Your Canary.” Fortunately, this one of her more endearing traits has flourished as she has not only grown into adulthood but her role as Alexandria’s Queen. As of lately, Garnet selflessly devotes herself to the daunting task of learning how to properly lead her Kingdom during this time of peace and prosperity – stifling her desire to travel Gaia by Zidane’s side.
Despite Garnet’s questionably naivety, it is noted that she is surprisingly adaptive regardless of the environment she finds herself in. Seldom, is she unable to find a way to outwit others further pursue her own goals – even if it is to her protector’s chagrin. In hindsight, despite the privations and disloyalties suffered throughout her journey, Garnet’s optimistic tendencies remain intact. She still whole-heartedly believes that everyone is neither good nor evil, capable of great acts on either side of the spectrum. Though, her time around Zidane and Tantalus have helped fine-tune a healthy suspicion, one that prompts her to take a metaphorical step back.
Her journey's have left her emboldened, no longer does she constantly doubt herself nor does she hesitate to do what she knows it right. It is rare to see her ire, however, threatening her subjects or those she considers her friend are quick to elict a far-less proper verison of herself, one that uses creative slang learned from Zidane and company.
History:
Garnet Til Alexandros XVII was born as Sarah, a native of Madain Sari, which in turns means that her lineage is tied to a tribe of summoners. Up until the age of Six, Garnet lived peacefully within the cities’ walls, that was until Garland summoned forth Invincible which decimated her beloved home into scantily more than ruins. She escaped with her biological mother, Jane, whom later perished from wounds. Although, Garnet doesn’t have memories of it, their boat capsized in the rough seas and she’d washed ashore in Alexandria. She would have perished if not for the fact she was discovered by the Alexandria’s King whom was infatuated with her due to her resemblance to his recently departed daughter. The actual Princess Garnet, whom had passed away from illness. In a stroke of genius, the King decided to have her act as a replacement for his deceased daughter, ensuring that Alexandria still had a “legitimate” heir to the throne. Alas, to make this transition, they removed the horn upon her forehead, effectively rendering him unable to communicate with Eilidions beyond being able to call them. From that point, she was raised within Alexandria under the presumption that Queen Brahne was indeed her mother. By the time she was seven years old, her estranged mother deemed it fit to find her a tutor, an eccentric man by the name of Doctor Tot. Under his guidance, Garnet’ desire to learn was fostered, she had a particular interest in literature – her favorite piece is Lord Avon’s “I Want to Be Your Canary.”
Alas, her happiness was fleeting because at the age of ten, Garnet met her Uncle, Cid Fabool IX, under less the pleasant circumstances – the passing of his father. In the wake of the loss, Queen Brahne, put a great deal of pressure upon Garnet to do her duties and learn what was expected of her as not only Princess but as the future Queen. However, over the next five years, her once caring mother and she had grown distant, Doctor Tot no longer visited, and she had become a prisoner within her own castle. This of course was when she began to formulate a plan to escape, to get in contact with her Uncle regarding her mother’s behavior. During the play, Garnet snuck away from the performance, changed from her elegant gown into a White Mages’ robes and relatively simple attire. She planned her escape only to be caught by one of Tantalus’ members, Zidane and her doting protector, Steiner. This lead to her fleeing not only one but both to secure her happiness. However, it backfired slightly and during their escape, Queen Brahme unleashed not only soldiers, cannons, but also a Bomb. During their escape, it detonated and caused the ship to crash into the Evil Forest.
After the crash, Garnet was captured alongside Vivi by one of the forest’ creatures. Upon their escape, they headed to the Ice Caverns, where she nearly surcame to the cold due to Black Waltz No. 1’s influence, although Zidane managed to defeat him, and they escaped near the village of Dali. It was at this point, Garnet made the cognizant choice to assume an alias, one that was based off Zidane’s weapon, Dagger. During their brief tenure at Dali Village, Zidane made it a point to teach her how to be more informal – it went about as well as could be expected. However, one night Vivi is kidnapped prompting them to search the village. During their search, they discover beneath the town is a factory which produces Black Mage Soliders. They quickly navigate through it, emerging in a barrel that Steiner knocked over revealing them. Shortly, after they fought against Black Waltz No. 2 and hijacked the Cargo ship and made their way to Limdblum Castle. However, Black Waltz No. 3 intercepted them and nearly wiped them out.
Upon their arrival, Garnet immediately sets off to discuss her mother’s drastic change in behavior with her uncle Regent Cid Fabool. However, much to her surprise, the once regal ruler was turned into a Ooglop by his beloved in an act of passion. Needing a break from it all, Garnet isolates herself within the Castle Walls, where she sings a haunting lullaby – one that she can’t remember when she heard it despite Zidane pressing it. Shortly after, despite discovering that Burmecia was invaded by Alexandria’ army, her uncle refused to take action and command her to stay for her own safety. But the Queen to be couldn’t stand idle and let people continue to suffer unnecessarily, especially not at the hand of her once kind-hearted mother. So she cooked up the ingenious plot and laces the Royal feast with Sleeping weed, albeit, she leaves her own food and Steiner’s untouched. In the aftermath, she quickly gathered necessarily supplies and stowed away in a burlap sack , which was carried by Steiner. How she managed to avoid detection, she used the clever ploy of the sickening odor of Gysahl Pickles. On their way to Treno, they encounter one of Zidane’s comrades, Marcus, whom was trying to find a cure for Blank. Filled with guilt and responsible for Blank’s situation, she deviates from her immediate mission to assist Blank in infiltrating a scholar’s mansion in search of a Super Soft.
To her surprise, she is greeted by an old friend, Doctor Tot, whom she convinces to hand over the Super Soft. Doctor Tot also revealed that there was a much quicker way backto Alexandria, if they used the Gargan Roo – an ancient underground passage. Upon her arrival, she is immediately betrayed by her mother, Zorn and Thorn, the courts’ jesters were ordered to extract her eidolons. Most notably, Queen Brahme made use of Odin, Atomos and Bahamut to lay siege to the other Kingdom’ in an effort to retrieve the other pieces of Alexander’s summoning gem. Her mother’s betrayal only worsened when her mother deemed her useless, ordering her to be killed. However, Garnet life was spared due to the actions of Zidane and company with a helping hand from General Beatrix – whom remained loyal to the uncorrupt crown. During their escape, Garnet was distraught over how ruthless her mother had become, not to mention the secret of the eidolons within her that she had been unaware of her. During their escape, they are attacked and in a frenzy, their Gargant crashes at Pinnacle Rock where she had a fated encountered with Ramuh. Prompted by her regrets of being powerless to protect those she cared for, Garnet threw caution to the wind and befriended the ancient being – making his power her own.
Faced with Lindblum’s destruction, Garnet pleads with the party to hunt down Kuja, the secret mastermind behind Queen Brahne’s newfound cruelty. Their journey lead them to the Outer Continent while being tracked by a headhunter known as Amaranthine and Lani. However, their journeys took them to Conde Petie, a place that’s cultural stipulations prevented them from pursing their end goal of the Lifa Tree. This prompted herself and Zidane undergoing a wedding ritual, despite both of their embarrassment – though she periodically uses it to chastise him for his lecherous ways. During their journey through the Mountain Path, she encountered a diminutive-horned youth that would later come to be known as Eiko Carol, the last remaining survivor from the Summoner’s village. Upon discovering the ruins of her former hometown, Garnet learns about her past, her connection to the being of powers, discovering whom she truly is.
Alas, Lani and Amarathine caught up once again, trying to hold Eiko captive until they are defeated. The next leg of their journey was to the the Lifa Tree, where they discovered the source of corruption, the Soulcage, which produced Mist – a substance that corrupted the very earth and its’ inhabitants and turned them into monsters. In the wake of this, Queen Brahne and Kuja go to war against one another, with the later making use of Bahamut. In a desperate attempt to save her mother, Garnet tried to call forth Levithan, though she failed to do so in time. This was when Garnet learned yet another valuable lesson, how much it hurt to say goodbye to someone you cared for. Yes, Garnet remained by Queen Brahne’s side as she passed away, muttering apologizes for her wicked ways. After her passing, Garnet returned to her Kingdom to assume her rightful position as Queen and lay her mother to rest. Unfortunately, it appeared this was where her journey with her newfound companions was destined to come to an end. A fact that crushed Garnet inside, especially given her attachment to Zidane – the rogue unknowingly stolen a treasure from her, her heart. For a time, there was momentary peace before Kuja stormed Alexandria and summoned forth Bahamut. In desperation, Garnet tried to activate the Castle’ defenses, although, she is unable to do so until Eiko plummets from the sky, the two joining hands as they call forth the holy guardian, Alexander, whom manages to defend Alexandira and vanquish Bahamut. Alas, the victory is short lived as Garland uses Invinicble to decimate the summon, destroying most of her beloved Kingdom in the process.
The tragedy of which riddled Garnet with guilt, the shock rendering her mute as she was faced with the aftermath. She remains behind to handle the affairs of her Kingdom as her friends pursue Kuja. Upon their return, they find Garnet mourning at the grave of Queen Brahme. It is at this time, Garnet strengthens her resolve, adamantly swearing that she refuses to let such tragedy befall her kingdom again, breaking her silence to inform Zidane. To her beloved shock, Garnet pilfers Zidane’s dagger, snaking it behind her head as she’d daringly cut off her ponytail. Kuja's retreat back to his homeworld of Terra prompted her to follow after him in pursuit of justice. In order to open the pathway to Terra, Garnet and company were forced to seek our four separate shrines, which would open up the pathway. Herself and Eiko ventured into the Water Shrine, where the younger summoner hinted at Garnet’s romantic interest in Zidane, much to her chagrin. Once they’d discovered the path to Terra, Garnet glimpses Garland’s ship, the Invincible, the sight of which jarred her deeply rooted forgotten memories. Although, the traumatic resurface and sensory overload caused her to black out. When she’d awakened, Zidane had already wondered off alone, distraught over discovering his true nature. Unable to let her friend suffer in silence, Garnet and the remainder of their groups followed his trail into the Pandemonium, it is there she helped him regain his senses by reassuring him that he isn’t alone. Garnet went so far as to proclaim that he has friends that would protect him without hesitation, especially, given the lengths he’d gone to protect them.
Alas defeating Kuja and Necron, Zidane took it upon himself to return his estranged sibling to the collapsing Lifa tree despite her protests – the two share a simple promise that he will come back. Despite the tragic void left in her heart by Zidane’s absence, Garnet returns to Alexandria to rule her Kingdom. A short time later,Tantalus comes to Alexandria to perform her favorite play “ I Want to be your Canary” to honor her, during the climax she exstaically discover it is actually Zidane. In her excitement, Garnet storms through the crowd, throwing her crown aside as she leapt into her lover’s arms with tears streaming down her face. When she asked him, how he’d managed to surface, Zidane’s cryptical response was that he’d sung her song “ Melodies of Life”, while she later corrected him by saying it was their song. Alas, with their grand journey coming to an end, there were a string of unexpected tragedites to include the passing of Vivi, although several look-a-like surface. Many of her companions returned to their day to day lives, she remained within the Castle, spending the next two years with frequent visits from Zidane as she has established a cabinet, elaborate checks and balances to ensure that if she is every required to go on another journey she is more than capable of doing so.
Physical Description:
Garnet’s most recent measurements from the Royal Tailor have her measured at 164 cm and weighing roughly one hundred and thirty-five pounds – a healthy weight from her height and age. Garnet’s mid-thigh length sable tresses are frequently worn in a low ponytail or a simple braid – both of which are normally held in place by a singular blue clip. Garnet has rich chocolate brown eyes, which when coupled with her other features serve to compliment her fair skin quite well. When not attending Royal Matters, Garnet elects to a wear a white blouse with billowed sleeves under a form-fitting sleeveless jumpsuit.
She still wears a pair of well-worn burgundy leather gloves which are coupled with a pair of matching ankle boots. Strangely enough, regardless of the affair, Garnet always opts to wear a simple black leather choker and a large crystal suspending from a long silver pendent – despite its’ impracticality. It is noted that when she is electing to sneak out, she often wears an iconic white mage robe, one that has an over-sized hood that reveals very little of hear features. Its’ hood is decorated with innumerable red triangles.
However, when attending formal events, Garnet often elects to wear Princess-style strapless ball gowns, which typically has some type of floral decorations to accentuate the waist and bodice. In spite her numerous protests to Beatrix, she is still forced to wear cumbersome hair ornaments and a crown.
Quotes:
We may be weak, but that's what makes us work together and help one another!
If it weren't for you, I probably would've led a meaningless life. With you, I was able to see so much of the world and meet so many people.
We faced many hardships, too... but... I think I finally know what's important.
Promise me one thing... Please come back.

Garnet’s lips curved upwards into a mischievous smirk as she’d gently pulled the double doors that lead into her personal chambers shut behind her. She reluctantly took a few pre-determined steps away from the doors, mentally counting backwards from thirty. Her excitement only grew as she heard the tell-tale sound of General Beatrix’s heavy metal boots clack against the marble as she’d sauntered off to attend to other important matters. Alexandria’s Queen tentatively pressed her ear against the wooden doors, closing her chocolate brown eyes as she’d listened intently for any hint of one of the Knight of Pluto lingering about – Steiner and Beatrix had her under metaphorical lock and key.
Though to be fair, she believed their actions were entirely justified, especially after they’d spent an entire evening with the Knights in a frenzy desperately searching for her – not privy to the fact she was on a debate with her beloved husband. Her fair cheeks grew flushed as she’d recalled that evening, sitting along the waterfront simply resting her head upon Zidane’s chest. Her heartbeat quickened as she’d recalled the smaller details to include the Genomes’ roguish smile, his heartwarming laughter, and the gentleness in the way he’d cradled her hand. Perhaps, it was selfish of her, none the less, Garnet silently prayed that the moment didn’t have to end.
At times, the Queen of Alexandria felt as if she was stuck within a bubble, struggling to breathe while she watched everyone else move about freely – it was tortuous. She dismissed such thoughts with a curt shake of her head, giggling to herself as a few of the insisted-upon hair ornaments slid free from her hair. She knelt down in her pristine formal dress, carefully picking them up with gloves hands before she’d deposited them upon her bed. The next few minutes were spent purposely stripping down to nothing more than her silken delicate.
She quickly threw on a loose-fitting blouse, a pair of form-fitting black pants, and lastly traded in a pair of decorative heels for a pair of well-worn ankle boots. She let out a blissful sigh of relief, savoring how the pain her arches melted away. She quickly rummaged through a few drawers in her vanity, smiling fondly as she’d pulled out an all-to-familiar robe, one that was stereotypically seen upon White Mages. No matter how many times she’d donned it, the nostalgic feeling never quite faded. She’d chuckled as she’d fiddled with a few of the singed sections, remembering how Vivi had accidentally lit them ablaze and she’d had to discard them on the middle of the stage.
That was the night Zidane had kidnapped her, freeing her from a life of monotony and the beginning of their grand adventure. Without further delay, she slid it on entirely and made her way out of her chambers, carefully slinking down the halls as she headed towards the Royal Gardens, where she was supposed to meet Zidane.
