Mickey nodded along with what Riku was saying enthusiastically. "Don't forget Christmas! We gotta make sure Jack didn't give Santa a hard time either!" was Mickey's added squeak, his to-do list aloud evidently. It was risky to mention Santa like that as he tended to be a bit more well known even in the other worlds, but Mickey wasn't struggling to trust this Dieter. While the king always tended to adamantly look for the good in people, he was still an excellent for eye for character. What was a bit funny was that in some ways the boy actually reminded the mouse very much of the platinum haired boy that was standing right across from him.
Riku offered Dieter the chance to go off with them and Mickey's wide toon eyes looked to his friend in surprise but he nodded approvingly nonetheless. Riku tended to be pretty stand offish so this was great! "It's typical that this graveyard here is just full to the brim with Heartless. I just hope they aren't quiet here just because they've already made their way into town." concern was thick in his voice. If that did happen to be the case then the situation was perhaps a bit dire.
"Well, Dieter, whaddya say? Wanna help us take care of some of the Heartless here?" he inquired brightly as though he were asking an old buddy to join him for a carnival ride. "Of course, we understand if you have other obligations, either way I need to head through yhose gates over there. Thank you for all your help!" large white gloves reached up to claim the warrior's more slender hand for a vigorous shake. With that the little mouse king whirrled around and bounded off toward the cast iron gates their looming spooky shadows over the graveyard. Even with a head start he knew it would be only moments before Riku was far ahead of him.
((ooc: So from here we could always pick off more heartless or we can end it here with the assumption that they do. We don't have a Jack so I don't know that we could NPC him really?))

Dieter’s flaxen brows arced upwards, The Dark Knight’s interest piqued by Riku’s explanation regarding Halloween and its’ associated merriment. The children would no doubt enjoy such festivities, perhaps, one day The Archdaemon mused to himself, the corner of his lips curled as he’d envisioned the children’s mirthful grins and wide eyes at the mere mention of candy or any sweets to be frank. The Dark Knight’s pride refused to permit him to admit that he was saddened that he wasn’t able to provide the children with such luxuries, hell, he’d struggled to train them up to the point that they could safely hunt for food – supervision was still mandated.
Before he could interject, Riku went on to elaborate upon Jack Skellington and his role within Halloween Town – an important figurehead. He couldn’t help but chuckle at Jack’s unorthodox title, Pumpkin King . Despite, Jack’s comical alias, Riku tacked on that he was responsible for the local festivities – admitting that he’d gotten out of hand on more than one occasion. Good intentions, bad execution , The Dark Knight mused to himself, recalling that he was guilty of such behavior himself – it was how he’d met Cassialyn. His smirk widened as his thoughts momentarily turned to the feisty dancer, a faint blush evident upon his cheeks.
“Heartless?”
Dieter repeated with uncertainty, did Riku perhaps mean the Dark Ones? They’d seldom release some heart-shaped glyphs of intangible light. His eyes narrowed, a realization dawning upon him, Could this perhaps be linked to the Kingdom Hearts Morne mentioned? . Of course, still wasn’t entirely certain of its’ existence, it could have been nothing more than the ramblings of a madman – Morne’s sanity was debatable.
“Santa and Christmas?, I don’t mind exterminating fiends.”
Dieter was shocked by the almost comical size of Mickey’s hands as they gripped his own, giving them a vigorous shake before the King bounded off in the direction of the cast iron gates. A disheartened sigh slipped from between his lips as he’d reached for the hilt of his blade, unfurling his wings as he’d followed shortly behind – he’d help for the time being.

"Right, Christmas." Riku wasn't sure how he could forget about that whole kidnapping Santa Claus fiasco. He looked over at Mickey, who was clearly surprised that he invited Dieter to go along with them. Then again, he didn't see why he should just leave Dieter behind... and he'd be lying if he said Dieter had his complete trust. It wasn't anything personal; Riku found it hard to trust anyone nowadays. Too often, his trust had been used to manipulate him. After having to endure the things he had, it shouldn't come as any surprise that he had a difficult time trusting new people.
That being the case, he figured it was best to keep Dieter close for now. There was something about him that made Riku want to keep him at arm's length. The Dark Knight then appeared to not know what Riku was talking about when he mentioned "Heartless," repeating the name back to him with a tone that appeared to belie confusion. "Yeah, those creatures we fought. Surely you've heard of them before?" The young Master explained simply before turning to follow Mickey to the gate. A Master's work was never done, it seemed. However, he was happy to assist his old friend.

It wasn’t surprising that Riku didn’t hesitate to follow close behind the mouse king. Mickey supposed when he thought about then it shouldn’t have been that surprising that this Dieter decided to either. Mickey was seeing in the boy right away. He was good. There was a darkness there that might be clung to, might concern anyone else unable to see the light through the shadows, but the mouse could feel it. This boy was good.
On through the cast iron gates the trio would charge into the longer section of the graveyard. There were tombstones just about everywhere in this world, but this one was the closest to the actual town. There were some important residents here. Just ahead Mickey caught sight of a familiar little glowing red light…and manifesting near it appeared six gargoyle heartless. Mickey skidded to a halt. ”Oh boy. Zero! Get outta there!” he called to the little red light which quickly floated up into the air and toward them.
As it appeared, one of the gargoyle heartless reached out and narrowly missed Zero the ghost dog’s backside. The only thing that stood between the three of them and Halloween Town were these six Heartless…provided the square was empty as well. ”Ready?” he warned his comrades. With that his booted feet pounded the grave dirt. The kingdom keyblade manifested once more in the mouse’s gloved hands as he charged and he met one of the gargoyles in midair with an upward swing.
((ooc: sorry for the wait guys))

| So these creatures, the Dark Ones, they are known as Heartless? The Dark Knight questioned in the aftermath of Riku’s brief, incomplete explanation. No doubt, a certain Green Mage, Syel, would be quite thrilled with that tidbit of information – even if provided them with no further insight into their enigmatic existence. Dieter’s responded to Riku’s harmless probing with a curt shake of his head just prior to passing through the Cast iron gates. For a moment, The Dark Knight gave pause to process the sheer number of tombstones laid out before him. Before he could further inspect the sea of porous grave markers, Mickey’s words brought his attention to Zero. In the distance, a singular red glowing light danced back and forth, momentarily eclipsed by the stocky bodies of a Gargoyle Heartless. Fortunately, the phantasmal dog maneuvered itself through the Gargoyle’s outstretched claws, narrowing avoiding being rended. Dieter’s hands instinctively drifted towards the hilt of his blade, his fingers resettling within the familiar groves. Mickey’s warning was met with a silent nod of his head before the Dark Knight surged forward – a few seconds behind Mickey. Once again, he found himself surprised by the Mouse’s prowess, his blade manifesting itself in an abrupt flash of light. Dieter’s own blade soon arced outwards, albeit his came diagonally across one of the Gargoyles, the blunt side smashing into its’ exposed side with enough force to send it crumpling to the ground.
His eyes narrowed as he’d extended his hand outwards, the magick energy in the air fluxed excitably as he’d began to call upon its’ might.
"Firaga"
A sudden torrent of flames spilled forward, encircling yet another Gargoyle and reducing it to nothing but ash fluttering freely in the wind.

[attr="class","healing"] [attr="class","healingimg"] [attr="class","dsthealing"]THE ROAD TO DAWN [attr="class","healingtri"] [attr="class","healingtable"] [attr="class","healingpost"]
The three warriors continued onward, through the cast iron gates and into yet another graveyard. There were a large number of gravestones here, which made Riku wonder if there were actually bodies under the earth or if they were just for show. Honestly, he didn't want to know. Graveyards made him uncomfortable enough. The thought of standing above dozens of dead bodies was creepy. He wouldn't mention this creepy feeling he had, though. He would just pretend like there was nothing in the graves, that the stones were all for show, and keep walking. Up ahead, he saw a red light bouncing up and down and to and fro.
Mickey called the phantom pooch "Zero," Jack Skellington's dog if memory served the silver-haired Keyblade Master. It wasn't just Zero that was there, though. Right next to him were six Gargoyle Heartless. Riku called forth Way to the Dawn once more and nodded to Mickey when the King asked if they were ready. His keyblade being cloaked in darkness, Riku charged forward, throwing his weapon towards one of the Gargoyles with his Dark Raid. The blade tore through the Gargoyle once, then again as it came back to Riku's hand. The rubble of the gargoyle fell to the ground, a freed heart fluttering into the air and vanishing.

His upward swing collided with one of the gargoyle heartless sending it careening backward into one of the taller gravestones. The impact was enough to make the gravestone begin teetering forward in warning but Mickey only paid half attention to it. The moment he landed from the first leap he’d made he sprang forward once more toward the same gargoyle he’d already attacked through a surprisingly showy front flip. The teeth of the mouse king’s keyblade sank into the gargoyle freeing the heart that had been trapped within it.
Mickey crashed against the tall thin tombstone and he reached upward to grab hold of its ornate edge as it teetered backward from the impact. Bold as ever, Mickey let the tombstone begin to fall backward and at a precise moment, he leapt yet again, his blade seizing the wing of one of the gargoyles mid-flight.
The mouse rode the floating heartless all the way down into the grave dirt before planting the keyblade into the gargoyle’s back like some ruthless Viking warrior in a story. Usually such a warm and friendly little king, seeing Mickey like this was probably a shock for someone who wasn’t used to his hidden prowess on the field. He was a modest little thing after all. The second Gargoyle was dispatched, its heart erupting free and floating past Mickey’s bulbous head. He spared it a whistful glance before leaping toward a third target without so much as a hint of exhaustion in his movements or his expression.

| Dieter’s lips curved subtly at the edges, the faintest hint of a smirk visible as he’d re-engaged the Gargoyle he’d already sent toppling to the ground. Its’ stony talons lashed outwards in a disgruntled frenzy, its’ desperate attempts to injure its’ opponent were fruitless – the Dark Knight just kept inching just a hair’s width out of its’ reach. He’d daringly diverted his attention away from his adversary to check on his comrades, Riku faired quite well. Although, his actions perplexed the Dark Knight immensely, why would he throw his blade at his enemies and leave himself unarmed? Such was the arrogance of youth? Although, such a sentiment was dismissed immediately as Riku’s assault resulted in the Gargoyle crumpling to the ground. Its’ body dissipating into nothingness only to leave a pink-heart that drifted through the air before suddenly vanishing.
What was that? The Dark Knight was left to wonder, uncertain of the ambient energies’ purpose. Before he could dwell on that matter, Dieter was forced to spread his wings and bat them fiercely. The updraft he’d generated was enough to propel him backwards, narrowly escaping being gouged by the Gargoyle. However, the beast didn’t relent, no if anything it’d diligently pursued him. Unfortunately, Dieter lacked experience when it came to aerial assaults. Truthfully, it’d made his particular style of swordsmanship next to useless, most of his momentum being disrupted as the blade arched through the air – the lack of a physical anchor didn’t help either. It’d made him appreciate their Clan Leader, Ysera, albeit she’d relied upon her bow – the mechanics were vastly different. Still, he’d managed to bat his wings once more and thrust himself backwards, extending his emptied hand in the beast’s direction. Before he could begin his chant though, Dieter had drifted backwards through yet another of their corridors of Darkness. A sense of overwhelming dread attempted to suffocate him, his breaths came out strained as it felt like he was being pulled in a million different directions. No doubt that he was though, he was being tugged in the direction of another Dark Portal – where he would emerge was undetermined. However, in those brief seconds before he was swept away, Dieter saw King Mickey as he’d valiantly continued to fight.
Truly, the King’s fighting style was admirable, he’d made use of his surrounds with practice ease – never once wavering. Dieter’s consciousness waned, his body going limp as it was pulled through the pathway by an invisible force. The question was, where would he emerge?

[attr="class","healing"] [attr="class","healingimg"] [attr="class","dsthealing"]THE ROAD TO DAWN [attr="class","healingtri"] [attr="class","healingtable"] [attr="class","healingpost"]
Riku smirked as Gargoyle after Gargoyle fell to their blades and magic. Riku had almost forgotten how easy combat like this could be with a team. Looking over towards Mickey briefly, his smirk grew wider. He had missed fighting alongside the mouse king. It seemed like ages since they last fought together. He hoped that this wouldn't be the last time, though the silver-haired Master knew that it likely wasn't. Riku looked towards Dieter next, only to see him swallowed up by a corridor of darkness. He raised an eyebrow in confusion as his smirk faded. 'I guess... he's done here?'
As Mickey descended upon the final Gargoyle, Riku shook off the confusion and charged it as well, the creature freezing as Riku initiated his Zantetsuken, slashing the Heartless several times with his Keyblade as he passed by it. He looked behind him, waiting for Mickey to finish it off before the spell wore off. Once he did so, Riku would smile at Mickey. "Good work." He dismissed his Keyblade and put his hands in his pockets, looking back towards where he saw Dieter last. "I'm not sure where Dieter went. Last I saw, though, he was pulled into a dark corridor."
He looked back at his friend. "At any rate, i'm gonna scout ahead. See ya in a sec." He waved to Mickey before running off into the square, hoping to provide some information on their surroundings ahead so they wouldn't just walk blind into an ambush... by Heartless or something else.

The last heartless was finished off with Riku’s help and Mickey remained stanced and ready just in case more heartless decided to appear in the conflict. Riku congratulated their collaborative effort mentioning the other warrior’s disappearance and Mickey gave a slow nod, concern for their new shared acquaintance obvious even in his toon features. ”I saw that.” his majesty agreed, his voice emulating that same concern he was wearing. Riku, however, volunteered to scout the square just ahead of them through the cast iron gates and Mickey gave him another nod, this a nod of encouragement.
As Riku disappeared into the gloomy dark of Halloween town’s many novelty shadows, Mickey took a moment to gaze off in the direction that the warrior had disappeared in. Mickey could try to brave the corridor and tear after the boy. He could feel it in his heart that this disappearance was not one intended by the boy…but Mickey just couldn’t shake how much his strength reminded him of Riku’s. That corridor would not claim him. If it did, Mickey would find him. That was all he could silently promise to the boy that had come to fight by his side. With a soft sigh, the mouse king proceeded, large gold boot after boot toward Halloween Town’s gate. He had no choice but to believe that the young man would be alright.
