| ❝ So we find our heroes at the Wiz Chocobo Post out here in -- Duscae. Meow is starting to think you all just make up these names to confuse nya. Anyroad...
We find our entrepid Chocobo Egg Rescuers out in the post. It stinks to high dream of Chocobo and sounds like one too. The old man Wiz and his assistants come to collect the eggs. But you never saw nya....
|
LAIKA OF GS! "Ah! Kiddos, well I am so glad to ya for rescuing some of our eggs. It seems just in time too!" He seemed a portly man a bit on the older side. He smiled, tipping up his hat some as the blazing sun of the plains region was on its way down the horizon. "Ah hate to be that sort, but you're young. Reckon you can find the thief for me? Seems while we were preparing for the eggs we was getting back, he stole one more." Removing his hat he motioned towards the small, climb that led down to a river. "Shouldn't get too far on foot what with Gigantoads clamoring about this wet season. He's like hunkered down in the old Behemoth Den down there, but don't worry: that big brute's long since abandoned it." Of course if you could do Wiz this favor he would spend the time setting up the returned eggs in the incubator. Do note since we want to keep this event moving everynyaddy will have three days after the last person to get their post in. After all the egg won't survive long in the cold, desert night outside its incubator...

Roxas' disappointment in being sent away again so quickly was betrayed by the small frown that flashed across his face for only a second—he had hoped he'd get the chance to see a chocobo up close, maybe even ride one, as he'd heard about the great birds but never encountered one in person—but he quickly gave a determined nod, placing his hands on his hips. "You can leave that to us. We'll get that egg back," he resolved. Nevermind the thought that he wasn't entirely sure why anyone would even want to steal a chocobo egg. He took a step backwards and looked to the others. "Are you guys ready?"

Well, it seems like even though they had found quite a few of the eggs, there was still one missing... And it seems that a thief was the culprit. To the Chocobo Post's credit, they at least tracked the criminal far enough to tell where they had gone. It made sense why they didn't pursue him any further, based on the description of the area that followed. Gigantoads? That sounded dangerous... What was more concerning was the fact that there was apparently a Behemoth Den. While he assured the gathered group that there was no danger since it had abandoned the place... Vaneera was skeptical about it. Still, she wasn't just going to let that egg go to waste out in the cold either.
Roxas was the first to speak, pointing out that they would get the egg back. After that, he'd ask if the others were ready. To that, the red-haired Keyblade Wielder would give a nod. "Well, we came this far. We might as well finish the job and get that last egg back! I think we can handle this!", she'd respond with a grin. There was the matter of whether or not the remaining person was ready, of course. But even if not, Vaneera felt that she and Roxas could handle it.
"I guess we'll be setting out pretty shortly, then. We won't want to let that egg stay out in the cold once it turns night... Plus, the sooner we get to tracking the thief, the better. Less chance of them getting away, or something happening to that egg.", the girl adds. She crosses her arms, trying to wait patiently. But you could get the impression that she was ready to get out there and resolve the matter. But, she would at least wait for everyone to be ready first.
Hopefully, it wouldn't be too much longer.------ Gyun Roxas

| ❝ And the team was off! Wiz would give the lot a map with the den marked off. With or without the Moomba they would start. The creature wouldn't have trouble catching up as the path across the road was clear until they would reach the treeline on the other side of the highway.
The pages roads were worn with use, cars driving down the stretch of desert road to their destinations in the major cities along. Vehicles were seldom Seema an could be easily seen and heard as they lazily cruised across the path.
The woods were not as densely packed with foliage as one would have assumed due to the verdent vegetation. Lively pines and bouncing bushes left reasonable clearings. There was no path, but the river was a good three mile down from the highway barricade. It ran straight West to East and was directly south from the Chocobo Post. It would be an easy task to find ones way back, but the Behemoth's Den?
It lay in the south, twenty miles off, across a maze of ruins which it had previously inhabited. Luckily the tram had a head start and it was high noon.
At the river basin Gigantoads freely roamed, but they seemed to be occupied with hunting for prey. Those large eyes weren't for show so the team would have to be cautious and find a safe place to cross the river. While not a fast waterway it was a bit deep!

Roxas traced their route on the map over and over in his mind. It was a much longer way than he'd thought it would be! For a moment he missed being a nobody, able to summon corridors of darkness at will. That was probably the one drawback of having a heart--he had to walk everywhere. Then he silently admonished himself for complaining. This quest was noble; he was off to save a baby chocobo! Guardians of light didn't whine about sore feet.
He began to tread more carefully as they approached the river, remembering Wiz's warnings of gigantoads. They could only see the river in the distance, but even from here he began to doubt he would be able to simply flash step to the opposite bank. This part of the river, at least, was too wide; not to mention he could see a few of the great ugly creatures plodding around a part of the shore a small ways off. He was sure he could take them if he had to, no problem, but of course he'd like to avoid a fight if possible.
He glanced to Vaneera. "You can swim, right?" If she couldn't, it would be best to know now, he thought.

Well, the third member of the group that showed up was taking a bit too long, and Vaneera was anxious to get underway. It seems that the employees at the Chocobo Post felt the same way about getting that egg back soon, as she and Roxas were handed a map that would show them the way to go. Pretty amazing how well prepared all of this was, really. The pair would soon set off on their journey to find the missing egg, and maybe if they were lucky they could even catch the culprit responsible so they could be brought to justice. Though at this point that seemed to be more of a secondary objective. Roxas takes the lead with the map, and Vaneera keeps pace with him, deciding to keep him covered and observe the lay of the land around them. She tried to make mental notes of distinct landmarks, since there was no way to tell how long they would be out here...
Or how far they would have to go. It would be helpful to know how to get back, even with the map in the picture... Thankfully, the overall state of the location was in their favor. Getting lost would be ultimately impossible so long as they practiced the basics of exploration. Eventually however, the pair would come to a river. Fairly deep and wide, and she could already see the Gigantoads roaming around, eager to catch any prey that wandered too close. Roxas would ask if she could swim, and she would give a nod. "Yeah, I can. But I don't think we're going to swim it with all of those Gigantoads roaming around. As soon as we try to, they're going to be all over us.", she would point out in a calm tone of voice, pointing out the packs that were currently searching for things to eat.
"I think we could fight them... As long as they don't swarm us too much -- Or at least, I can handle them, I think. I don't know how strong you are.", she admits. "There might be another way to get across the river... Maybe if I use some ice magic, I can form a path across? But we'd still have to get pretty close to do that.", she would cross her arms, thinking this over.
"I don't suppose that map shows the river getting any thinner in either direction?", she would then ask, doing her best to stand a bit taller on her tip-toes and look at the farthest reaches of the river on either side, hoping to spot the river getting a little smaller, or at least not have as many Gigantoads lurking about... Still, they were working on a time limit. It was important to keep that in mind too. Maybe they'd just have to break through? Although if they did choose this path...
"If we do go through this way, we're going to need to clear them all out, I think. Getting the egg back will be a complete impossibility otherwise."
And that was Vaneera's overall assessment of the situation, she'd fall silent now, letting Roxas think it over and weigh in with his own thoughts on the subject.------ Roxas

"I'm plenty strong!" Roxas asserted at once. "If we do have to fight, it would be no problem at all. Just, you know... it would be better to save our strength. We don't know how tough the thief is going to be," he hoped with an inward cringe that he didn't sound like he was just making excuses. Maybe getting a chance to prove it wouldn't be the worst thing, after all. He wondered how Vaneera would approach combat, and what type of weapon she might have. She seemed confident; sure of herself, Roxas thought, and suddenly he straightened his posture so that it more mirrored hers. "Anyway..." the solutions she'd proposed turned over in his mind as he considered them while he scanned the map.
"It looks like the river gets thinner a little ways up here," he declared, pointing and leaning aside so Vaneera could see for herself. "Ideally we'll want to find a way we can cross without running into any monsters, because it'll be pretty hard to fight through on our way back while carrying the egg. But we can't take too long to find the perfect spot," he frowned, thinking. "Ice magic is a good idea. I don't know that spell, though, so I wouldn't be able to help. I think we should check there and hope that it's calm, but if it isn't we probably shouldn't waste any more time and just push through either way. Does that sound good?" Truth be told, he was rather anxious to get moving quickly. The more time they spent talking, the more likely it became that the thief could escape, or something could happen to the egg...

Given Roxas's reaction, Vaneera realized her mistake; namely implying that he looked weak. That wasn't her intent, so she decided to correct it in short order. "Sorry! I uh... Didn't mean to imply that you looked weak or something like that. I just don't see armor or a weapon.", she admits, scratching the back of her own head nervously. "I probably shouldn't assume either way, so I'll just say that you can depend on me in a fight. Hopefully we can work together well!", with that, she'd give a thumbs up to Roxas, hopefully showing that she meant no harm in what she said. Still, with that out of the way it was time to address the issue of how to proceed.
Roxas took the time to examine the map, and pointed out that the river seemed to get thinner a little ways up. Vaneera would step over and look at the map, giving a small nod. "Right. The smaller it is, the easier it would be to make a path we can walk on. If not ice, then maybe a log or other type of makeshift bridge? We'll figure it out, and hopefully as we go we'll find a path that's not quite as infested with those beasties.", she'd then gesture to the Gigantoads. To be honest... Getting a better look at them now... They were pretty big. They didn't exactly look frail either.
"Yeah... Let's try to avoid pulling the entire swarm down on us if we can.", Vaneera would voice agreement when it came to saving their strength where they could. There was no telling how long they'd be out here, and what sort of dangers they'd encounter. Caution was the better part of valor, in this case. So, that in mind, the red-haired Keyblade Wielder would take point; leading the way to where the river would hopefully thin out a little more, and maybe they wouldn't have so many threats lurking about. From there, they could assess the surroundings.
This wasn't exactly going to be a small river, and chances are if they wanted to get around it entirely, it would be a several hours long walk. So ice magic wouldn't be perfect... But they COULD do it, if there was no other option. Still, what she would rather do was find some logs, or maybe boulders? Something to push into the river, or on top of the riverbank, and maybe give them a path to walk over. She was trying to think of the future here, because...
"This river is going to be a total pain once we find the egg... We can't swim with it, and jumping with it is something I'd rather avoid for safety purposes.", she'd state aloud, trying to find something to use. Of course, the other issue was... Even though the Gigantoads weren't so numerous that they stretched the entirety of the river, they wouldn't be able to avoid them entirely either. They were going to have to still fight a little bit to get a path cleared out. Hopefully they could find the egg and get back before more roamed into the area.
"At least right now, we don't have an egg to worry about. Once we do find it, one person will have to focus on carrying it, and the other should handle any fighting. We want to reduce damage to the egg as much as possible.", she'd comment to Roxas. "That being said. I think this is about the best we're going to get. First thing's first. Cutting down a tree and using that as a makeshift bridge is an option. Otherwise, I can try to use ice magic. But before we can really do any of that... We have some Gigantoads to clear out. You ready for this?"
She'd ask of her traveling companion. No sense in rushing into the battle after all before they were prepared after all.------ Roxas

"Oh," the blond shrugged awkwardly, not expecting her to have apologized, "I mean, uh, it's okay. I'm a keyblade wielder. I know some magic, too," he explained. "Don't worry. I'm sure we'll make a good team!"
Vaneera's assessment seemed sound, and he agreed with a nod. As she took the lead Roxas followed close at her side, still clutching the map. "It might be small enough up ahead for me to just Flash Step over," he said, "but you would still need to cross, and I don't know if I could while carrying something so fragile." At their brisk pace, they reached the place they'd marked in little time. With a small cringe Roxas noted the two gigantoads close enough to the thinnest part of the river that they would definitely have to with. Well, that was fine. Like Vaneera said, maybe it would still be clear by the time they returned to cross back over. On the bright side, it looked to be only 20 feet across; however, the water still ran swift and dark in the middle.
Turning his attention back to the monsters, he stowed the map away, and with a small flourish and flick of his wrists he summoned his two keyblades in a flash of light that was eye catching even in the bright sun. He couldn't help but grin in the anticipation of combat as his heart picked up from just holding Oathkeeper and Oblivion. Questioning the redhead with bright eyes, he asked, "You ready?"

Well, Roxas ended up letting it drop that he was a Keyblade Wielder, and versed in Magic at that. So was it safe to assume that he was at a similar level of skill to herself, then? If so, they had pretty good chances out in the wild then! He was pretty optimistic too, agreeing with the thought of working together well in a battle. Vaneera smiled lightly, at least she had pleasant company. Although she would prefer adventuring in a new world with Motet, this wasn't bad either. All that aside, Roxas would eventually point out that with the river being small enough, he might be able to 'Flash Step' across. She assumed that was some sort of teleportation skill or the like.
Whatever the case was, that meant he could get across... At least without an egg in hand. It still raised the problem of what they were going to do once they had retrieved it. Even more important than that to consider was the fact that they still had Gigantoads to take care of. Shortly after that, Roxas would put the map away and casually summon two Keyblades, like he had done it countless times before. Of course, that probably was the case for him, but for Vaneera...
"Two Keyblades?!", she couldn't help but express her surprise in such a fashion. "I've never heard of anyone that has two! I don't think I've met any either... How'd you do that?!", she then inquires, excited to hear all about the details. Of course, she soon remembers why they are out here, and she coughs, clearing her throat.
"Ah-... Haha. I mean, I'd like to know more about that later, if you don't mind!", she woudl correct, and then with a flick of her own wrist, she would summon her Keyblade as well. "I can only summon one, but it's been with me through a lot!", she would then state, getting a confident smile of her own.
Now all they had to do was coordinate an attack on the Gigantoads. If they were lucky, they could take out one before the others in the area could react. The element of surprise was on their side. "Right... I'll make the first move!"
With that, Vaneera would shift into her signature stance, and concentrate her magical energy. Once it hits it's peak, she would seemingly vanish from the spot, signaling the use of her Strike Blitz technique! She would above the Gigantoad and strike it fiercely on the head! And just as suddenly, she would vanish, reappearing in the blind spot and giving it another solid blow! This repeated several times, until she had hopefully left it rather dazed from the sudden strikes.
For good measure, she would swing her Keyblade at it once more, and follow up with yet another slash! There was no teleportation this time. With that done, she would prepare herself for retaliation from the Gigantoad, as well as the interference of the others in the area. Of course, she wasn't fighting alone... Her reaction was one he had gotten many times, and he grinned at its familiarity. To be honest it was a bit of a running joke to him at this point. "Yeah, we can talk keyblades later!" he agreed, spinning his own a few times in excitement. "Go ahead, I'll follow up!"
As Vaneera teleported in an instant, Roxas rushed toward the beast on foot, so he'd be ready to follow up the combo as soon as she left him an opening. Lingering at the edge of the gigantoad's attack range on feather light footsteps, he attempted to follow the other's movement with his eyes. He was glad to be on a mission with another skilled keyblade wielder, that was sure. In a moment he saw the opening he had been tensed in preparation for as Vaneera finished her attack and relented. Without missing a beat, he tightened his grip on his weapons and rushed forward with Burst Charge, slicing directly across the monster in a blink, his keyblades leaving an X-shaped trail of light behind him. Before it had even a chance to register his disappearance he cast Fira at its side, figuring that heat might be the best thing to dry out its ugly hide. Now a moment to check his positioning—Vaneera was within earshot but not so close that they would together be an easy target, and he could see a few other lumbering gigantoads in his periphery, who had been roused in alarm. Having half-leapt, half-glided backwards to put some distance between himself and the beast, he readied himself for a counterattack.

| ❝ The toads were a heavy lot, but also opportunistic eaters. Seeing their chance at a free lunch they would have attacked the pair. The river was their territory and they wouldn't let such succulent snacks escape unscathed! After taking a keyblade to the face from Vaneera's Strike Blitz it would jump towards her with jaws wide open! That slithering sticky tongue was well known to capture even cars in its grip! But before it was able to land on her with a Fat Press it was struck by Roxas' Burst charge and sent bouncing onto its back where it would remain prone for a turn or two.
Gigantoad B was set ablaze by a fire spell while it was still concussed by the Strike Blitz.
But this left the third with a mere knock on its melon and it would croak loudly before moving to fire out its sticky tongue in an attempt to capture Roxas by his leg. Were it successful it would try to pull the pint sized Keyblader into its belly and drag him down towards the river where he could drown its prey!
They did not seem to be all that tough: being rather large and rotund: they were slow and easily knocked over with a hard enough strike, but they were resilient, if nothing else.

Well, that nearly took a dangerous turn! It was fortunate that Roxas intervened in short order and knocked away the Gigantoad that otherwise would have tried swallowing her whole on the spot. Such a thought caused her to shudder slightly, but she would soon regather her composure. Vaneera realized that this fight was far from over, after all... They had three Gigantoads to deal with, the only fortunate part of this being that they didn't seem to be very strong. Two of them had been effectively stunned for a little while, but the third... Well, they certainly were opportunistic attackers.
Because the third one focused on Roxas, and was attempting to drag him into the river to make him a meal! Vaneera wasn't about to let that happen, rushing into the fray as she charged a spell in her hand, ice began to gather at a rapid pace, and as she closed the distance with the Gigantoad hoping to snack on Roxas, she'd fire off her Blizzard spell at point blank range! With a flourish of her Keyblade, she would also strike it twice, hoping to get it to release Roxas! Hell, with any luck she had just managed to do enough damage to it to kill it outright.
The other two wouldn't stay down forever, after all... And it was because of that thought that she would prepare herself once more, just in the off chance that retaliation could be heading her way from any of the enemies currently in play. Pacing herself was going to be important not just for this battle, but for the entire journey. So she was being careful in her use of techniques and spells... Using too many would leave her utterly defenseless if something bad happened, and she couldn't risk such a thing.
But now, it was a matter of waiting and seeing...------- Roxas Actions: 1 - Blizzard @ Gigantoad C (the one targeting Roxas?) 2 - Basic Attack @ Gigantoad C (ditto) 3 - Basic Attack @ Gigantoad C (ditto) Cooldowns: Blizzard (0/1) Strike Blitz (1/3)

The gigantoad had opened its broad mouth and Roxas saw a thick slithering tongue just begin to dart forward when, before he could react, a blast of icy wind rushed by him and he leapt back reflexively. That was close! He would've liked to stay as relatively clean and dry as he could, thanks. He flashed Vaneera an appreciative grin. Their odds looked good—with only this monster currently mobilized, they could focus their attacks on a single target and then, with one down, be less overwhelmed when the others did rally. That was what Axel had taught him.
Before the gigantoad could clear the frost from its eyes Roxas took the opportunity to dart into close range and bring his keyblades down together in the center of its forehead. The force of his own attack pushed him upwards again and he used that momentum to launch himself forward over its back; he sailed the length of its spine, slicing each keyblade down its warty hide as he did so. With any luck, that should do it! He hit the ground running but quickly pivoted to see the damage he'd done, tensed to react if it lashed out. Meanwhile, he was sure to keep the other two in his peripheral vision. Gigantoads may be great, slow-moving creatures, but Roxas knew better than to leave himself open to be blindsided.

| ❝ Gigantoads (C) was taken out with a barrage of strikes from its prey, leaving the other two roads with less competition! No longer prone Gigantoad (A) rolled to it's feet and would spring bounce in an attempt to crush Vaneera, leaving Gigantoad (B) to barrel after Roxas.
Amidst all this time would pass. But once the roads were slain the river would be simple to pass as much debris, such as stones and fallen trees led paths across the way. They would only have n easy trip from there as the long stretches of flat woodland with heavy clearings like made from the Behemoth that once called this place a territory, it would be no trouble spotting and avoiding any more Gigantoads along the way.
