    Those who don't know Roxas well might mistake him for being moody or cold; though he is less outgoing than his somebody Sora, they have more in common than not. Like Sora, he is upbeat, finds happiness in small things, and values his friends more than anything. However, because of the Organization's betrayal and his experiences in data Twilight Town, he can be defensive and slow to trust. Yet still he believes in giving everyone a chance to prove (or redeem) themselves, and is generally friendly. Having only existed for less than two years, he can sometimes come off as awkward and naive. Despite this, he isn't afraid to speak his mind, or shout it if he has to. (This assessment is based off of the 358/2 Days manga in addition to the main series games, hope that's okay!)

358/2 Days
    Roxas was born from the heart of Sora in the wake of his sacrifice for Kairi. He was found and indoctrinated into Organization XIII by Xemnas, who named him; though his first memories only a few weeks later were of Axel. Axel (as Lea was formerly known) acted both as a guide to navigating his new existence and as a best friend. Not long afterwards, a girl named Xion was born, and she and Roxas also quickly became best friends. It was in Organization XIII that Roxas and Xion together learned how to interact with others, wield keyblades, successfully navigate through new worlds, and generally exist as pseudo-human beings. Yet during this time Naminé was hard at work piecing together Sora's shattered memories, which in turn affected both Roxas and Xion, who was a replica of Roxas (and by extension Sora). Roxas' memories, dreams, and identity began to blur with Sora's, while Xion's strength and ability to wield her keyblade slowly drained away as Naminé put Sora back together. Meanwhile Riku, disguised as an impostor clad in the Organization's black cloak, sought out Xion and Roxas in attempt to make them surrender to Sora and allow him to awaken recompleted. After Roxas and Xion had begun to discover the true nature of Organization XIII, Xemnas reprogrammed Xion and set her against Roxas with the intent of having her destroy him and absorb his strength. Left with no choice, Roxas defeated her, and continued to The World that Never Was to confront Xemnas. However, he was intercepted by Riku, who challenged him to a fight. Riku was only able to overcome Roxas by giving in to the darkness inside of him that was Xehanort's heartless Ansem. Roxas was then placed by DiZ into a virtual simulation of Twilight Town so that Sora could be fully recompleted.

    As far as Roxas was aware, he had always been a human boy who lived in Twilight Town. With no memory of his former life, he believed he was a student on summer vacation whose best friends were Hayner, Pence, and Olette, who he had occasionally seen from afar in the real Twilight Town. But he quickly began to question the nature of this reality as unexplainable things started occurring around town, as the Organization attempted to retrieve him by dispatching dusks to infiltrate the simulation. It was during one of the dusks' attacks that he was able to recall his keyblade. After the lesser nobodies' failure, Xemnas ordered Axel on threat of his life to personally retrieve Roxas, or should he fail, to destroy him. Axel confronted Roxas, but upon realizing he no longer had any memories outside of the data world, he attacked him. Yet because he was unwilling to eliminate his best friend, he threw the fight and disappeared. Roxas was lead to the Old Mansion where Naminé lived, where she met him and explained about the Organization and Roxas' nature as a nobody, before she was interrupted by DiZ. Finally Roxas found his way to the room where Sora slept and failed to confront DiZ, whose form was only a hologram. With no one else to turn to and nowhere left to run he accepted his fate and allowed himself to merge back into Sora's heart.

    As Sora continued to traverse across worlds, Roxas remained dormant inside of his heart, stirring for only a few seconds whenever Sora encountered something or someone familiar to him. He remained within Sora until the final battle between the seven lights and thirteen darknesses when Xemnas attacked Lea and Xion, who the Organization had revived. His heart burst from Sora's and entered an empty replica that Even and others had prepared for him. After defeating Saïx, Roxas was finally reunited with his two best friends. They rejoined the fray and helped seal the real Kingdom Hearts as Sora confronted the original Master Xehanort. After witnessing his defeat, they returned to Twilight Town, this time sharing their friendship with the real Hayner, Pence, and Olette, as well as with Isa, who now had a complete heart and was no longer under Xehanort's control. He also became acquainted with the wayfinder trio and was able to see Namine again, who was likewise no longer a nobody.

"If I can't get answers here, I'll get them somewhere else. Somebody knows where I came from. That'll be the person I trust."


"I'll set Kingdom Hearts free! Then everything will be the way it was! She'll come back... and the three of us can be together again!"


"There was one last thing I needed in order for me to be whole again. A connection. Sora helped me find my way back here... to my friends."

    Soft footsteps echoed throughout vast empty hallways as Roxas made his way through the Castle that Never Was while all its other inhabitants slept, the stark white walls almost seeming to glow under the light of the lunar-esque Kingdom Hearts. He could faintly see his own tired expression in the enormous window he approached. He and Xion's creation had definitely gotten bigger since last he'd noticed. With no stars in the deep mauve colored sky to buffer its magnificence, Kingdom Hearts' light was almost overwhelming to Roxas' wide-eyed stare. How could there be so much light within the heartless they'd defeated? Or perhaps its creation had something to do with the light of his keyblade itself? He wondered if Axel might know. He would ask tomorrow.

    Realizing he'd been lost in thought for a few minutes now, Roxas suddenly turned as if expecting to see someone behind him; but the Grey Area was as empty as it had been when he'd arrived. Where is she? The normally brightly lit room seemed otherworldly in the dim glow of the great celestial body above him. All at once he felt as if he were in some kind of dream, standing alone in the complete silence, beneath a wash of pure light. He noticed a dull hollowness begin growing inside of him.

Well, of course I feel empty. We don't have hearts...

    It seemed as if Xion wouldn't be coming to join him. The feeling in his chest expanded. She hadn't shown up to meet he and Axel at the clock tower that day, which wasn't unheard of; as her missions often kept her late they'd decided they would at least try and meet up here as a sort of back up plan, so they could at least see each other once in a day. When she did manage to make it there in time, their conversations in this half darkness tended to be quieter, more sincere, as they shared the events of their days and the questions that had arisen from them. With the mysterious Kingdom Hearts looming over them and without Axel beside them to provide explanations, as their voices fell their discussions often wandered from things like wondering how people managed to get salt from the sea, anyway, to wondering how they themselves had come into being. Because neither of them had memories of their human lives, they felt a strange comfort in each other, as if they were holding hands in the dark. He hoped that she was okay, and that she'd get to see her in the morning. Maybe they'd even wake up to another day off... He sighed quietly, and with one last glance up to the sky as if the collective of hearts might provide him with some kind of answer, he turned and started back to his room, his footfalls seeming to echo louder than ever.
