Location: Gold Saucer Mood: Competitive Status: Well The time had come; amidst his usual wandering, Ramza once again found himself in a weird competition. This time, it was Chocobo racing.
The Knight of Ivalice was surprised upon learning about the existance of those birds in this new universe. It appeared that many elements from his home world - from spells, to magick arts, and the Chocobos - were actually omnipresent in the universe. The first evidence of such was the girl that he met at the tournament; the girl that bore his sister's name: Alma. She was a White Mage, despite not being born in Ivalice, and had a very similar skillset to those that Ramza knew from his world, those he had fought both besides and against during his own journey.
And, similarly, Chocobos were natural of Ivalice - but apparently also existed in this place. He had employed Chocobos in his campaign after saving one on the Araguay Woods; they were trusty mounts and loyal companions. As soon as he heard about a competition taking place, he could not stop himself from taking part in it. He was homesick, and overjoyed by the opportunity to once again mount a Chocobo.
When he visited the stables, he had searched for the ideal companion; the organizers showed him many, but one caught his attention - a royal blue bird, the color of his house. 'Tis destiny, he supposed; he felt a connection with the animal as soon as he saw it, and decided to race with him.
Finally, the time had arrived. Ramza was guided towards the beasts, along with the other racers. Despite being competitive, Ramza knew 'tis was no battle to the death. The money would be appreciated, but not life-changing. As such, he allowed himself to smile to his fellow competitors. "Good luck, sirs and milady" he said, with a wave, as he hoped into the bird, adjusted himself into the saddle, and got ready to start the race.

Gyun is having just a little bit of trouble. He has never even seen a Chocobo before and he's uncertain how he got himself into this position. Actually he knows exactly how he got into this position, by being far too agreeable. Someone here must have decided that his small frame would give him an edge in this race. This was not well thought through, and he's not sure why he agreed to it.
He just has to figure out how to get up on this thing. Hey it's that voice! he knows that voice. The moomba manages to hook a clumsy limb upon the rigging for the saddle and drag himself up. His unreasonably long mane pokes up first, then his struggling, very focused expression. The moomba eventually manages to flop bodily on top of the bird, at which point he orients himself as gracefully as a creature like himself can.
The feline waves aggressively. "Ranza!" he's not super good with ems yet. They are difficult with his pointy face. He remembers this guy from that inexplicably deadly snowball fight! that for some reason a paragon of kindness subjected them to despite knowing they were heavily disadvantaged and could very well die. That was really weird.
This has in all honesty been a pretty great day for him, the Gold Saucer is not a particularly welcoming environment. There have been a few wealthy individuals who have asked a person he was standing next to how much he was, and ever since he got up to the tracks there has been quite a lot of conversation. The best thing about today hands down has to have been the spectacle. There's all kinds of great events that allow audience participation, though to be honest the to best things were that this world has triple triad! he's soooooo good at that game. It's one of the few things his moomba brain excels at. Most of the time here prior to the race was, in all honesty, following Senor Sabotender around and trying to match his routine.
The feline shakes his head aggressively to dispel any distracting thoughts, so that he may focus on the competition! He has no real intention of winning, it is not at all his goal here. He'd just like to make it to the end of the course without falling off of this giant, arguably majestic bird and breaking something. He has to kind of lean to one side to even see what's ahead so that may be difficult.

| one little spark of imagination~ a dream can be a dream come true Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy! How super dee duper exciting! A race! Races could be such fun, snail races, boat races, car races, foot races, hand races, space races. There were so many kinds of races that one could imagine, and Figment of all creatures would know! But there was one kind of race that the little dragon hadn't ever thought to imagine up, a race he didn't know existed because he didn't know the big birds existed! They were so big! And fluffy! And cute! And fluffy! After spending several hours playing with them in their pens, much to the confusion of their handlers, Figment learned that the birds were called Chocobos! The name rang a bell but he wasn't entirely sure why. But what excited him even more was the prospect of getting to ride one! How could he say no to that sort of excitement? Races could be such a fun way to make friends too! He already had plenty of time to make friends with his chosen race pal before the races started. The big orange cuddlebug was such a sweetheart with them big ol' eyes and that charming kweh. Rainbow Outlaw was such a pretty name for a pretty bird too!
Figment learned that the chocobo was actually from a rather prestigious pedigree in this land of Eorzea, and so he promised the birdy to do his best as his race partner. Whether the bird understood or not, he wasn't sure. But after getting more used to one another, the duo would cutely canter their way to starting line. The peculiar purple dragon posing and posturing for the crowd who were more than likely entire confused as to what a dragon was doing in the race. Proably a few murmurs of 'Is...is that a Dravanian?' out in the crowd. Not that he'd remotely know what a Dravania was! The little dragon would sit up properly on the chocobo's back and give it a pat on the head before waving to the other competitors. "Well hello! It's super nice to meet you all!" with a little puff of magic he'd disappear and reappear next to each racer, eagerly shaking their hands (or paws) before appearing back on his own chocobo. "My name's Figment! We're gonna have a lot of fun today, I can already tell!"

Chronos loved Chocobos!! He remembered watching the people from Ul'dar with their birds, when he and his father visited the city. Chronos was happy to be home for now and he would enjoy every second of it and when he heard there is a race... he just HAD to sign up! His own Chocobo was being taken care of by his remaining parent, so he couldn't use it for the race. Heck, how could he? His awesome bird would crush his challengers! Nah, they needed to have a chance and he found just the right bird for it. It was a dark red, the Mi'qote immediately feeling that he had drawn a winning ticket with this one. It's been a while since he had last been part of a race, but he would do his best and take all that nice money on his journey. He had expected some experts racing him, but it seemed this race was for every class in a way, everyone having similarly strong chocobos and all. He put on his googles when he entered the Racing-Area in the Gold Saucer, already hyped for this. He had not expected this kind of enemies. One of them was a young man with blond, long hair and the attitude of a Elezen. Very polite and royal-looking. The other one was a … erm... what was that? He had seen Goblins, Namazo and all but that lion-like creature was completely new to him. But to be honest.. it was very, very cute looking. Big claws, yes, but that fur looked so fluffy and the way it spoke with that cute voice was... arg! He just wanted to take it and give it a big hug, but they were about to race, so he had no time for it. The other was a – is that a dragon? A purple dragon that teleported? Eh, okey, what did the Race-Makers smoke to invite that thing? Or maybe he had smoked? Maybe he had breathed in something weird and saw things? He just blinked when it shook his hand, the Mi'qote scratching his ear. “Eh... erm... hello?”He climbed on his chocobo, looking at the other contestants with a rather dumbfounded expression. “I am not the only one seeing that purple dragon, right? I am not nuts or anything? No? Okey.~”He rolled his shoulder and took the reins in his hands, adjusting himself to get a good hold, before a smirk would spread on his face. “You are all going to eat my dust, rookies!”

the fiery spell fencer
345 Words |
A Chocobo race? Hono had no clue what a Chocobo was... but that didn't stop her from participating. The fencer from Twilight Town wasn't expecting to compete in a race like this. The girl entered the stables. She spotted a man, with blonde hair in a nice ponytail. Perhaps it was a competitor? She spotted a Cyan bird, oh Cyan, What a beautiful color indeed, Hono had often debated dying her hair Cyan, it would compliment her outfit nicely, that was a story for another day.
At first, she looked at the giant chicken, the bird stared back. Hono seemed a bit nervous, she knew the bird was tame, but seeing such a strange creature would spook anyone. A few moments later a member of staff was over to assist Hono. With the help of the staff, she was helped onto her mount and given a very quick explanation of how to control the flightless bird. With a nod, the staff left to tend to other matters. Hono gently patted her steed, it was a male that was rather recently trained. With a deep breath, she spoke. "Just like riding a bike...right?" Hono spoke softly, did she think she could win? no, but she still wanted to try.
She made her way out to the race track. The bird was a bit easier to control then Hono excepted, she pet the bird, hoping she would earn its trust. After a short train of thought, she imagined herself crossing the finish line and winning the race. All of a sudden this little purple dragon appeared before her, shaking the Fencer's hand. she didn't speak, she was just... confused mainly. What came next was banter and good luck from the other racers. Hono nodded and spoke out loud. "Purple Dragon...Yep, So I guess he really is real..." She shrugged. She grabbed the reins of her Chocobo and took a deep breath ready for the race. "Good luck..." she spoke to her competitors with a soft smile. While she waited for the actual race to start planning out her strategy.

| | With our racers at their mark each chocobo seems ready to go. Talons crunched against the natural racetrack and wings flapped against the sides of their saddles. The crowds roared with expectation, more so when the sponsor of the race walked to the safe edge of the track with his White Chocobo right beside him. She was a fine specimen among birds and dressed in luxurious barding with a bridle that seemed to glitter of gold. Pressed into the chest of its barding was a inert materia stone that seemed to shine with the crystalized haze of the Lifestream. Taking his gun in hand Rufus Shinra would take aim into the sky. 1... The Chocobos seemed to tense, knowing well the routine of their tracks. While they would abide by the control of their riders these were pure bred racing birds.2... There was a tense air. With a 1000 munny pot and the chance at receiving a title race against a champion bird made only the most competitive squirm. 3.... Rufus turned his head and with a POP the gun let out a spray of confetti, signalling the start of the race. From here on in racers had to follow the >rules< to a T lest find themselves out in the desert on a bird with no stam...Ramza Beoulve | Hono | Figment | Gyun | Chronos Ti'era | |

Gyun just kind of stares blankly as he is accosted in a very friendly manner by an excitable purple dragon creature. As a moomba, he doesn't really have a firm grasp on the fact that his senses could be lying to him so he just accepts this occurrence as fact. He doesn't really have time to converse with the creature before he poofs off again so the moomba contents himself with finding them in their lane and waving.
He's immediately distracted from his socialization by his mount getting a bit tense, which, judging from the fact that things suddenly got quiet he assumes is because the race is about to start. As soon as the gates drop the moomba leans forward and grips tightly with his paws and legs, and his chocobo bolts immediately. He has no idea why his bird is starting out trying to pick up speed but he's not going to question it, it is a race after all. It would be nice to win, but honestly he'd be happy enough to figure out how to pilot this thing. It's not like a machine at all, there's no manual for it, nothing is labeled and there's nothing to interact with other than the reins. It's like this weird manual... thing, but also this weird automatic thing.
The moomba and his bird accelerate to two blocks right out of the gate and make no other actions because he's still kind of figuring this out.

All the strange opponents aside, this race will be blast! He could already tell by the air, taking a deep breath, before he would put his goggles over his eyes, adjusting himself on the bird and getting in position to start the race. It didn't seem like many of them had sat on a Chocobo before, so he might have an advantage here. And of course he would make use of it. 1000 Munny was a lot after all and his weapons needed some nice upgrades. Smirking with his sharp canines showing, he would wait patiently for the gun to start the race. The shot rang in his sensitive ears, but it didn't make his reflexes any less fast. He took the reins in a firm grip and pushed his bird to go! Ah, how nice it felt to be on a Chocobo again, but this wasn't the time to lay back and enjoy the ride. Laughing happily, he would push the bird to pick up some speed, his eyes already fixed on the chest he could make out in the distance on his lane. That one would be his for sure!! He just needs to make sure he doesn't get to cocky and burns his bird out by accident... which could happen, since he is known to overdo it in races and actually EVERYTHING ELSE in his life. He smiled over his shoulder to the closest enemy on this track. “Hey, Dragon-dude! Think you can keep up?!”He wiggled with his ears in excitement, before he turned his attention back on his lane fully. "Better not get on my tail to much, or you might get slapped by it! HAAHAHAH!"
Chronos makes his chocobo run faster! Acceleration used two times! Chaos Vortex now runs 3 Blocks!

| one little spark of imagination~ a dream can be a dream come true A thousand munny sure was a lot of munny...what exactly was munny anyway? It was currency, Figment at least knew that much. But what is it? How is it made? What's it made of? Does it taste good? There were a lot of questions that were floating around in the dragon's noggin, but all of those would have to wait, Rainbow Outlaw was tensed up, ready and eager to get out of the gate. The bird had a serious gaze upon his face now, contrasting with the giddy and goofy looking Figment that was gently hugging the bird's neck to get a good look past its head. Were those little treasure chests floating on balloons? That's super neat! What all could be in them, he pondered to himself. They'd not have to wonder too much longer, as with the sound of a 'POP!' the race began, and Rainbow shot out of the gate.
Action 1: Rainbow Outlaw accelerates once! Speed now 2 Blocks!
Figment himself wasn't much of a competitive type, per se, if it was all in good fun that's all that mattered win or lose, but it didn't mean he never tried his hardest to reach a goal! Sure sometimes he'd get distracted along the way, but he always saw things through to the end. When some playful banter was shot his way from the kitty person, Figment couldn't help but to giggle himself. "I don't know, but I guess we're gonna find out aren't we!" the dragon would give Rainbow a gently pat to the neck and lean up to speak to the bird. "Well you heard Mr. Kitty, let's try to keep up, don't hurt yourself though! And if we can get one of those neato chests while we're at it?" the bird warked excitedly in response and sped up once again. From what he had been told, the Outlaw family were born racers after all, they were good at what they did. Whether Rainbow here was a greenhorn or an expert, Figment couldn't say. But the bird was going to try its best either way as it started drifting into the lane to his right.
Action 2: Rainbow Outlaw accelerates again! Speed now 3 Blocks! Action 3: Rainbow Outlaw shifts lanes! Moving 1 Lane to the Right!

Location: Gold Saucer Mood: Competitive Status: Well The knight was happy to see a familiar face - Gyun, who fought alongside him on that wird snowball-battle at Christmas Town. Even then, Gyun was not the weirdest being in this race - that honor certainly went to the huge, goofy purple dragon.
That universe was strange place indeed.
Regardless, the race started; Ramza decided to start with a bang! He knew that this was an endurance test - a marathon, rather than a sprint - but he decided that things would be easier to manage if he took the pole position right at the start!
"Delita, let's go!" He ordered his chocobo, which he named in honor of his best friend. Giving a light knock on the bird's flanks with his heels, Ramza ordered the Chocobo to sprint at full speed!
Ramza is using all three actions to accelerate, making his Chocobo move 4 blocks/post.

the fiery spell fencer
180 Words |
A few of the competitors seemed to have named their Chocobo. The fencer was no different, she named her bird "Mizu" after her little brother. She kept thinking about how cool he would find this! Before the race even started Hono had figured out her strategy. After a brief silence, the gun was fired, and the Chocobos were off!
Hono was in the center of the race track, she didn't want to merge into another lane just yet. She didn't know how to accelerate this thing completely yet. She wanted to start at medium speed, let the other racers wear themselves down.
With a deep breath, she took her feet and hit the side of the bird, much like a horse. "Let's go!" she called out to the bird. However, the bird wasn't the biggest fan of being kicked in the side. It instantly began running at Max Speed. Hono was freaked out a bit. "H-He didn't like that!" She said to her self. She decided to go with it, as her bird ran at full speed to start off.
Hono's Chocobo didn't appreciate being kicked, so it went full speed. Using all of Hono's actions.

| one little spark of imagination~ a dream can be a dream come true The race was already off to a good start! Everybirdy was giving it their all it looked like, and their riders were just as eager! Most had burst out of the gate with wild abandon, but it seemed the Mr. Knight and Ms. Lady were keen on getting ahead as soon as possible! But Figment knew the tale of the Tortoise and the Hare, and while slow and steady may have won that race, this one wouldn't be won by playing overly cautious. "Easy up there Rainbow! Don't wanna wear yourself out early! Catch your breath a bit, let everyone else sweat it." Figment said with a little giggle and a pat to the chocobo's flank. In response the chocobo kweh'd softly and slowed its pace to a more steady gait.
Action 1: Rainbow Outlaw decelerates once! Speed now 2 Blocks!
Figment glanced around the field between the other racers, it certainly was a motley looking crew out here today, himself included! Two flavours of kitty, a gallant knight, and pretty damsel, and a dragon! One would think it the set up for some sort of fairy tale! But the question is who among the protagonists would find their happily everafter, and who would find themselves coughing up dust at the back of the pack? It mattered little to Figment, win or lose, what mattered to him was the fun of it!

Gyun is not a chocobo jockey. He has no experience with these things and it's not like a machine that he can open up and tinker around with or just smack really hard to make it work better, no matter what Galbadians may think about creatures. He furrows his brow a little bit, what he is, is observant, and a copycat. He may not be fast, or experienced, but he can approximate those things by watching others. He looks to his left and locks his gaze on Ramza, his feline eyes focusing in to take in his actions. Then looks right. Those two did roughly the same thing and are having similar results, but the girl on the right is having a very bad time of it and her bird is unhappy.
The moomba furrows his brow and tugs the reins a bit with his paws, trying to figure out which way is which and his bird zips to the right. It takes two lanes for Gyun to correct. Apparently the controls are very sensitive and it doesn't take much to turn the bird. He takes note of that, now he knows how to steer, and leans in a bit, gripping tighter in the stirrups that... he really does not fit, and his bird accelerates again. Is that how that works? Pressure to the sides? If so he's got this. Now he just needs to figure out how to get those floating things, and keeps eyes peeled to the other racers on the track.
Gyun moves his bird two lanes to his right figuring out how to steer. Gyun accelerates to three tiles per post. 6E4tuce31-10 Roll for lather. 1-10
