Alexandria’s Castles water-locked courtyard was illuminated by the duo of moons that were seated high in the sky, the subtle caerulean radiance of Gaia’s native moon meshed well with the mesmerizing weening cerise of its’ sister celestial body, the Terran moon. In the midst of the aforementioned courtyard, a lone figure was seated upon one of its’ stone benches, two scantily-clad yet armed women stood diligently in the position of attention. Every once in a while, those guards glanced inwards at their distraught Queen, genuinely concerned the lengthy periods of silence in between her murmured prayers. Only two days prior, the Queen had been elated, enacting her masterful plan to rendezvous with the Thief that had initially stolen her away from a life of monotony. Unbeknownst to that beguiling rogue whom chased her throughout Alexandria Castles’ hallowed halls, he’d made her painfully aware that her life was monochromatic – devoid of happiness and color. [break][break]
In a moment of passion, Zidane had backed them up against the coarse brick of the tower, inadvertently triggering a trap door that sent them spiraling down into the depths of the Castle. A trivial matter, well, that was until it became apparent that its’ depths teamed with innumerable creatures, Bandersnatch, the ever-faithful and indiscriminate protectors of their territory. Unarmed and fearful of not only her own safety, but the safety of her betrothed, Garnet had instinctively called upon the might of Gaia’s gods bestowed her with their might. Except, something hadn’t been quite right, Ifrit and Shiva hadn’t answered her pleas. In the heat of the moment, Garnet had attributed it to her nerves, obstinately lying to herself, claiming it was because she hadn’t channeled the deific magick properly – unaware that she’d made no error in her casting. [break][break]
Her heart had only sunken further into the pit of her stomach when she’d examined the gem stones, noting how the once radiant vassals of these mighty creatures were now lackluster, dull and devoid of their inhabitants. It should have come as no surprise that their absence radiated through the Alexandrian Queen, striking certain chords deep within her subconscious. Even now, Garnet’s fingers trembled incessantly, her breaths coming out in uneven bursts that shook her Guards to their very core. Garnet’s vision blurred as she’d tried to focus upon the stone clutched in her hand, Aquamarine, the stone that housed the motherly serpent, Leviathan. Why wouldn’t they answer her pleas? Had they forsaken her as a Summoner? A heart-wrenching sob was torn from her lips as she’d let the gemstone slip from between her fingers, it’d clattered loudly across the cobblestone, not going more than a few inches away. [break][break] No matter how hard she tried to steel herself against the foreboding thoughts, they’d managed to worm themselves through the gaps in her defenses. Yes, memories of how Zorn and Thorn had stolen this power away from her had resurfaced. Garnet unwillingly recalled how Kuja, her mother, Queen Brahne had made use of her power, the sheer destruction they’d wrought. What if it were to happen again? How would she live with that guilt a second time? To be frank, Garnet wasn’t entirely certain she could. This was only intensified by the realization, Garnet had lost one of her sole means of protecting her beloved Kingdom and its’ subjects. What made this matter worse, Garnet hadn’t told Zidane the truth yet, not because she didn’t want to, she just wasn’t certain how. [break][break]
Garnet forced herself to swallow the lump in her throat, taking one agonal breath as she’d tried to rebalance herself. She fished out the final stone, peridot, the one that was bestowed to her by Ramuh, the first summon that had recognized her worthy of its’ power – not to mention that had taught her a valuable lesson. However, before she could invoke it, her train of thoughts were broken by the sound of steel scrapping against the inside of a scabbard, her two protectors drawing their steel and leveling it at someone approaching. Their cries and commands to halt, echoing throughout the courtyard. A newfound sense of panick coursed through Garnet, her blood turning to ice in her veins as she’d gripped the stone a little tighter – she was powerless to defend herself.

Lindblum Grand Castle could not be compared to the Alexandrian structure which housed its royal family. Its bustling city and busy Districts had entertained the thief for years. He had lived in the city for quite some time yet to him it was no home. While absence did indeed make the heart fonder such had not strengthened his attachment to the city. If nothing else he felt a neutral regard for the place which had not only harbored him and the troupe's activities, but sided with the love of his life come her time of need. Still it was no home... What made his heart scream was the bitter taste of separation from his friends, his life and his love. His return to Alexandria had solidified his intentions to stay close to her queen. Home was where the heart was and Zidane's heart was trapped in a cage, the key to its prison held by only one. But as fates would have it he was torn from her side again. He had returned only to find a darkness had risen to divide them, but such would not stand. He traveled to the stars and parted the seas of sand to search for a way home, for his destiny. He had never believed in destiny and still found it a trite and overbearing concept but -- he was sure that had he never found Dagger, had he never been part of the team meant to spirit her away: he would have died... and he knows it. It was humbling to face one's mortality, temptations only spoken of in plays. The desire to sabotage oneself if only to see them smile, to see them safe… He would do it all again! And again just to be the one to fight with her. To experience it all with her. He wanted to hold her close, take her away so that none could intrude on his senses, which had all sought to indulge in his Dagger. And yet it has been that voracious appetite for her attentions that pushed them into the dangerous situation where she had found herself mute of her powers. Though he greatly pinned the blame on the architects who failed to even provide a guide for all these hiding holes... knew it was inevitable.Honestly he wasn't surprised. She had shown great strength during the war and took the throne without a second thought. Her heart and mind was far from battle and settled -- settled into a monotony that any would find themselves forgetting even the simplest instincts. She had forgotten how to fight, it was no big deal. at least as far as he knew. He didn't know the extent of her worries, or pain. Her loss... Nevertheless he stayed by her side.He watched for as long as he could as she seemed troubled. The thief could have easily disarmed them but he opted for a polite smile and wave. She had been so silent. It was unnerving. He hated when she fell into her internal ruminations. He hated not hearing her voice. That time -- that time she had lost her ability to call out. The memory was sharp and stabbed his stomach. He reacted before he could pull himself back from the guards. His hand would reach out, making move to rest at her hip so he could pull her close, the thief ducking under their hesitant postures. It wasn't hard to recognize Zidane, the boy who seemed to be about courting their queen. His tail stood out amongst the citizens of Alexandria, his charm was quite known, nearly rivaling Weimar's. "Hey, Dagger, say something." He whispered, a wrinkle of fear crawling through his voice. "You okay?" He would try and lower his face closer to hers, brows creasing in worry, though his face tried to draw a smile on its features. The strained expression gave clear purview to his worry. He couldn't stand it. She was worried about something. Was she upset she couldn't fight in a pinch? Had he ruined her little dinner party with his more crass comments? He hadn't meant to hurl the ball of mash so close to her! It was meant for Amarant! Had she allowed his hand to rest where it was, and if the soldiers had let him pass with ease, his gloved digits would begin to press against her flesh as he tensed. He just wanted to hear her voice.
Of anyone he seemed the most troubled by her state. To many it seemed quite normal for a queen to fret over the circumstances of her rule, but this wasn't just the stress of being a boss! Zidane knew her at least, that much, right? MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS

[attr="class","kiminoright"] Garnet’s petrified grip upon the Peridot tightened marginally, effectively concealing the entirety of the gem within her petite hands. However, all the mean whiles its’ uneven edges had dug sharply into her palm, silently threatening to cut into her supple flesh if she’d didn’t cease her self-destructive ruminations. Garnet’s silhouette visibly trembled with each resounding thud of Zidane’s foot-fall throughout the courtyard, each time the distance between them shrunk so did the Queen’s ability to reign in her emotions. By the time the beguiling Genome rogue had emerged from his shroud of shadows, Garnet’s face had already been marred, twin rivulets of tears trickled down the side of her face. Their presence belayed an unspoken truth to her beloved, she was not “okay” – not in the slightest conations of the word. [break][break] Zidane’s hushed whisper, it’d served as, yet another phantasmal blade, one that sunken deep into her chest and been violently wrenched about. Oh, how the presence of fear, even in its’ most minute form within Zidane’s characteristically jovial tone, rattled her crumbling defenses to its’ very foundation. When her beloved probed further, Zidane was met by obstinate silence, Garnet unable to articulate a coherent sentence. In spite of their vows in Conde Petit, Garnet was still reluctant to share the entirety of herself to Zidane. What did that mean exactly? It meant, Garnet still harbored a secret, one that silently ate away at her, eroding a bit more of whom she was with each passing second – her self-doubts, her forsake desires, and her abandoned dreams. [break][break] When her beloved inched closer, Garnet’s arms shout, almost violently, as they’d encircled his waist. With a burst of desperate strength, Garnet pulled him close so that she could bury her face into his chest. Her arms tightening around his torso with vice-like intensity, her muffled words scarcely audible to even herself. “I can’t feel them anymore, they don’t answer my calls, Zidane…” Garnet confessed, her tone fervent, borderline hysterical – the regal formalities thrown to the wayside. The gemstone clutched in her hand had begun to glow, its’ soft yellow light crept from between her clenched fingers, its’ radiance unseen by its’ master. One could sense the change in the atmosphere, the intensifying pressure building, punctuated by a resonating clap of thunder. It was followed shortly by another deafening roar from the heavens’, a streak of divine judgement striking just a handful of feet away. [break][break] The blinding light caused Garnet to press herself closer into Zidane, unaware of the elderly man that stood in the midst of the strike zone, his aged hand resting upon his gnarled rod. His voice cut through the night… “I see you’ve remembered my lesson, little one, I also see you kept your promise… protecting her from everything but herself.” [break][break]

When it came to matters of the heart Zidane has proven to be far from an expert despite his declarations. Weimar and the rogue could write a book on their expertise with the opposite sex, but none of the expose could be counted as valuable. Both were fools in their own right, their so-called expertise a matter of misunderstood signals and ever more desperate cues. Zidane was still young and though much more experienced with the world as a whole he was never given much time to muse over the satirical cravings of his heart. It was want of many things, a hearty appetite that could nary be measured nor predicted. Yet when exposed to the very thing it needed it would stutter and skip whenever said object of its affection would near.
Come his time with Dagger he had spent more times at a loss for words than he had ever found himself in the presence of another. He would suffer for his foolishness in these delicate matters for her ire was not easily earned, for at least than he could know if his efforts were for naught. His ego oft fed the idea that she had fallen head over heels for his charms, but in truth it had been his heart that had sunk for her in every way. When she held his hands he felt a warmth that caused him to falter in a time of need. Reckless abandon took him over come his insatiable desire to impress her when she found his flirtatious ventures with others loathsome. He acted a fool to garner her graces and risked life and limb to ensure her safe. There was naught in his experiences with women that prepared him for such.
No boasts of conquest come way of his brothers had compared to the sensation of love and care. And this was far from the comradeship and closeness he shared with his brothers. Sometimes he just wanted to hold her, nothing uncouth, but there were times that he fought himself from pulling her close. Whenever her face creased into a frown or she sounded unhappy. No time did that feeling manifest more than it had after Brahne's death... He just didn't know what to do. Was it selfish to try and console her, to treat her as if she were a fragile piece of glass? All he could do was watch as she fought through her silence and lament. He had done ever more to play the fool for her, if only to see her smile a bit again.
He never knew how much her smile had meant to him until that time. He never knew how much she meant to him until he did not have her by his side...
Even now, were he to confess, whenever they were apart for but a night he found himself contemplating ways to steal himself into her quarters if only to speak with her, or watch her sleep soundly. He would never fall to such recourse, though. He would send missives, try and woo her beneath the moonlight of her tower while being shooed by her Knights-in-Waiting. He played the role of the obnoxious lover quite well, despite not being so. Ever a jest to be so close to a single person and not once ferry a desperation to be closer. Though the desire was there, twas naught but an afterthought whenever he held her long enough.
When she pressed flush to his form he felt his face heat up. It was not until her cries did he respond and move to pull his arms around her, tight, despite the eyes upon him. Always protecting her, guarding her yet they could do nothing to defend her heart. This women who tore down tyrants, who tamed an ancient Eidolon to defend her people, this woman who had lost not one, but two mothers in the course of a single lifetime. As she spoke his gloved had brushed along her hair, the other her back as if he would do to soothe the storm in her heart. But to what end?
He felt static run down his spine, causing the fur on his tail to stand on end, a light brightening the night had been enough to cause the rogue to wince. The words spoken caused him to flinch. An active attack on his person, the elder god doing well to tear asunder any sense of control Zidane may have had. In truth he should have been more proactive, more responsible in keeping Dagger afloat. Goodness knows her habit of setting herself out to sea without an anchor, metaphorically of course. The rogue parted his jaws to return a crass remark, but the sensation of her hold on him kept at bay the baser inclinations to set the god straight.
In truth the lord of thunder was -- correct in his assertions. His saphir eyes drifted up to eye the old man, his hold on the woman tightening as if he was due to rip her from his care. Protective to a fault Zidane was not the sort to abandon those her cared about and those who were in need. But he was wont to not interfere in matters of the heart in which he was naught more than an arrogant fool who barely understood his own at times. But damn him, he was right!
"...and for that I'm sorry." He spoke out before attempting to part himself from the Queen, his precious queen. Though it hurt to remove himself from her reassuring hold, of which reminded him he was still awake, he moved to kneel down. "Dagger... do you mean your Eidolons?" The last time she had lost them, the last time they had removed themselves from her. "Don't worry, I'm here this time." He'd never be away from such again. He had been too late last time -- but he was here now.
The thief was knelt down, the thunder lord's radiance a blinding flash in the backdrop. At least there was one voice she could count on. that old man would never leave her side because he had decidedly chose to grow with her. He would remember the ancient avatar say as much. So much had happened since than. Amidst the war nary had one the time to commune with the Eidolons as she had with Ramuh.
"What does she -- what do we need to do?" He'd as the old avatar before looking to his beloved once more, standing to his feet. "Hey, you're not alone this time. We've been to hell and back." He nodded to her as he reassuringly squeezed her hand. "When -- did you notice?" was he just a fool, just blind? He was never good at picking up magic unless it was absurdly strong and that alone he should have noticed how withdrawn she had become. Trapped in a cage, what canary wouldn't remember how to fly? She wasn't a canary though nor was she meant to be caged. MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS

Ramuh, the pragmatic deity of divine thunder and swift, impartial judgement remained manifested. His sunken eyes regarded both Zidane and Garnet with fondness, his gaze tainted by the faintest hint of sorrow – it pained him to see the turmoil that ran wild in Garnet’s heart. Frankly, it pained him to admit and realize just how close his bonded summoner had come to forgetting the lesson he’d taught her during one of her darkest hours. Had she’d forgotten the lesson in its’ entirety, his bond to her would weaken and wane, until it eventually dissipated entirety. His hardened stoic expression visibly softened, a timeless sigh slipped from behind his mustache-covered lips. Thus, were the blights of youth, they were fervent flames, glutinously gorging themselves on life’s amenities. When he’d met Garnet, Zidane and Vivi, in each of them he’d seen a grand spark, each one capable of burning as bright as the glittering bodies in the heaven. [break][break] Alas, time had taught him that those few souls that shown bright, they were often destined to burn themselves out. Now when he regarded Zidane, he still possesses that same fervent spark. Garnet on the other hand, her spark had dull, its’ flickering embers barely able to sustain themselves – she had overtaxed herself. Ramuh’s gaze shifted to the guardswomen whom kept their hands trained on their blades, their fingers twitching with unspoken anticipation as the elderly man stepped forward. For a time being, he didn’t regard Zidane nor acknowledge that he had spoken, his one hand tucked behind his back, the other clutching his staff which he used as an impromptu cane. He stopped just a few inches away from the duo, hunching forward to pick up the discarded Aquamarine, staring down at it fondly. Leviathan, the motherly Hydralean, whom had been sealed away by resident of Maiden Sari – unable to contain and harness her might properly. [break][break] The once radiant stone was now dull and lackluster, a reflection of how Garnet’s tie to the being had weakened and how she’d nearly forgotten the lesson. He placed it gently upon the bench as he’d finally went to regard Zidane, noting how the Genome held onto his lover feverishly, his posture strictly defensive. From behind his mustache, his lips curved upwards into a mirthful grin, touched by Zidane’s devotion to his beloved – no doubt fully aware Ramuh could smite him with but a smidgeon of his might. “ Why do you apologize? You are not at fault, no, the blame lies solely on her.” Ramuh replied candidly, his tone of voice entirely neutral as if he was doing little more than reciting trival facts. [break][break] Garnet’s grip upon the stone had tightened marginally before it went slack, the stone remaining in her hand only by the virtue of her finger tips. In response to Zidane’s question, Garnet nodded her head, unable to bring herself to verbalize the truth – afraid it would make it entirely concrete. Her slack grip made Zidane’s attempt to escape her grasp an effortless task. Garnet watched as Zidane knelt down before the Ramuh, almost casually regarding the deity as he’d inquired to what they needed to do. Ramuh’s gaze shifted from him to Garnet, his piercing gaze lingering on her as if he was probing the depths of her soul, searching to see if she knew the answer. This time, Garnet’s lips parted – words failing escape her for a fraction of a second. [break][break] “I have to relearn their lessons, rediscover myself, not the person I’d become to rule my Kingdom…” Garnet spoke aloud, her gaze shifting from Zidane uncertainly to Ramuh, whom stared back at her for a moment or two before he nodded his head – affirming her suspicions. When Zidane squeezed her hand, she’d met his gaze for a split second, letting it fall to the ground. “ When we were down with the Bandersnatches… I tried to summon Ifrit and Shiva to protect you..” Garnet confessed, her tone tinged with regret.

Zidane did his best to hold his tongue on the matter, but that old man had been right to tell Dagger the truth. So she had grown.. idle. It happened! It was hardly her fault -- and yet it weighed heavily on her. He felt like kicking himself! All this time he thought -- she was alright to handle it all on her own. That was what royalty did after all, right? But Dagger wasn't a queen first. She was herself. The shame caused him to wither a bit as he knelt before his beloved, the act a familiar one as he only did so when presenting her with his solemn, heartfelt words. He looked up to the young woman, his tail bobbing just a hair from the ground as he remained patient.
In truth even if they had been through so much and were undeniably powerful there were some of them who struggled more than others. Vivi and Eiko were the youngest, despite their magical prowess, and often had to be shielded by them. It was far from normal for the youth to be exposed to war and Zidane was ever glad that the two had each other to relate to in their journeys. Most would have deemed it was safer leaving the girl at home in the care of Moogles, but Zidane wasn't the sort to demand of others what he himself would deny. For the young summoner there was a whole world out there she needed to see. He understood this. The rogue felt that Dagger also needed Eiko, someone she could look after and take care of, just as much as Eiko needed another Summoner to share her memories with...
But Dagger had a great disadvantage: her throne. While Eiko would come to learn many of the things Dagger had long knew under the care and guidance of Cid and Hilda Dagger had never known her heritage from the start and she was missing, what Eiko felt, was the necessary addition of her horn. Zidane didn't know much, if at all, about Summoners, but there was one thing he did know: Dagger was stronger than anyone! Where she lacked in physical strength she maintained in her intelligence and ability to adapt to any situation. Man it was such a waste that she was a queen!
When she spoke of her journey of rediscovery -- he felt relief wash over him, only for a chuckle to escape his mouth. He held her hand tight as he dropped his head, letting his forehead touch to her hand in a warm and affectionate gesture that the rogue was not given to offering in public. The guards were all but forgotten as mirth filled his chest, the worry of something happening to her -- dissipating. He was well aware that her powers were important not only to her, but Alexandria. They were her identity and the kingdom's saviors. Who knows what sort of villains would attempt to sweep through if such a threat was pardoned. He pulled her hand to his mouth and offered it a kiss before he stood. Reaching out his gloved hand he would attempt to brush back those luxurious, chocolate bangs and press a tender kiss to her forehead.
"Is that all Dagger? I was scared for a minute..." Why did he seem to take it so lightly now? "Oh babe, no... it's okay." He moved to pull her close, letting his hand drift up to pat her hair down as he held her at the small of her back. "You're just a little out of practice." He stepped back, letting his hands come to her shoulders. "Hey, don't you worry! If anyone knows about this kinda thing it's me! We'll have them all at your side again in no time!" Of course with his jovial assertions ... uh. "Well -- I mean where do we start?" He glanced to her hand. Which one had she there?
If anything was obvious they just had to find where they went. If it was anything like Ramuh or Madeen they could just be off on their own as they pleased, taking different forms until it was such that their master needed them! The rogue would wonder a moment before he looked to the old god.
"Hey old man, now I know it isn't something as easy as askin' 'em back." MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS

The title of Queen, for the past two years, Garnet had grown into it, carefully reshaping herself to fulfill the entirety of her newfound duties. This is your duty, to the Kingdom of Alexandria, and most importantly to your citizens! Garnet incessantly reminded herself, each time she’d felt another aspect of her freedom being cruelty snatched from her grasp. In spite of the losses she’d been subjected to, Garnet diligently carried herself with grace and poise, never once belaying the metaphorical weight of the crown – nor how she’d suffered. Truthfully, her feelings mattered naught to most, a handful of exceptions existed of course. Doctor Tot frequently made visits from Treno to ensure her health didn’t deteriorate, Steiner’s scowl deepened just a fraction of a centimeter each time her shoulder’s fell downwards in defeat. Even Reagent Cid and Hilda voiced their concerns, especially, after they’d discovered her hunched over a desk with quill in hand. [break][break] Garnet had worked tirelessly, devoting every nuance of her spare time into the betterment of not only Alexandria, its’ formal allies, and making reparations in leu of the former Queen. Fortunately, Garnet hadn’t denied herself all of her guilty pleasures. No, she’d permitted herself three indulgences, the time she’d spent within the Royal Library re-reading elaborate plays or poetry books. Secondly, there was the time she’d spent studying the horizon from either her balcony, the docks, or the gardens. Lastly, there was the time she’d allocated for Zidane and companies’ visits – besides Zidane the others were far and few in-between. Zidane , Garnet thought to herself as she’d watched the rogue shirk downwards, kneeling before her. [break][break] For a time, the trio lapsed into a suffocating silence, one that was dispelled by Zidane’s chuckle as he’d gripped her hand with renewed intensity. Garnet’s lips curved upwards, both touched and amused by Zidane’s antics – he’d always found a way to make her smile even in the direst of times. She’d watched as Zidane’s head craned downwards until the warmth of his forehead danced across the back of her hand. Without uttering a sound, Garnet’s free hand drifted up to the top of Zidane’s head, her gloved hands weaving themselves into his tresses. This intimate moment lasted but a sparse second, Zidane pressing a gentle kiss to the back of her hand before he’d risen up to brush a few stray locks aside. [break][break] Her cheek grew visibly flushed, the heat radiating from them as Zidane further bathed her in his affections. One of the guard’s let out an audible cough, a cue for her partner to cease leering at the duo, returning her attention outward and scanning the courtyard for any other visitors – not that they expected any. Once more, Zidane’s unbridled optimism made itself apparent as he’d belittled the gravity of their situation, his perception that it was a small matter. Somehow, knowing he viewed it like that ease some of Garnet’s doubts, despite his laid-back demeanor, Zidane seldom steered her wrong – well… that was a bold face lie. [break][break] But he’d stood by her side through a number of trials and tribulations, never once losing faith in her or sight of their end objective – he’d guided her through some of her darkest hours. Her blush only intensified as he’d pulled her closer, his hand traversing downwards, stopping at the small of her back. “Thank you Zidane…” Garnet said softly, unable to formulate anything further to say, it felt like it was just a waste of words – her heartfelt gratitude already apparent. All the meanwhile, Ramuh watched the duo, his mustache concealing the warm smile as he’d witnessed what he’d perceived to be as pure love. [break][break] “How astute, she has lost her connection because she has forgotten their tenants, the lessons that she’d learned either from them or as she journeyed all of Gaia. She must prove her worth once again… Some will come easier than others.” Ramuh said before his form began to dissipate, it started at his feet as he’d began to break down into little more than stray arcs of electrify. “ I can sense the presence of two, Shiva is within a palace of own making… Ifrit… he lurks far closer…. beneath the castle…” [break][break] With his piece said, the rest of Ramuh dissipated.

Zidane had remained close to Dagger as allowed by their equally busy schedules. It was difficult to see beneath his usual antics and jovial nature, but bit by bit Zidane was working to become someone that could remain by her side forever. Gone were the questionable duties of the Tantalus troupe, at least on the levels it has once been. There hardly remained treasures left on their world to find and covet. With a tumultuous peace finding the world and changes consuming the continents the troupe had to change too. Respectable actors known the continents over, endorsed by the sovereign ruler of Lindblum. Zidane was not moving up in the world, but he was understanding it better. He'd never fall in line with Palace food. That stuff would never satisfy his belly, but he could understand that Dagger needed someone that could be depended on and that sort of person was needed now.
He would swear his devotion to her cause, ensuring that he would never leave her side. After everything -- she deserved at least this much from him, after he had been gone so long and went off on an unexpected journey there after. She had been struggling all this time. Sure he may have gotten them into a few... avoidable situations, but nothing came out of backing out of a challenge that came at you headlong! She didn't deserve this either! She didn't use her Eidolons to hurt others or even intimidation. He watched her struggle to gather all of them by her side during the war and it hadn't passed his notice as she found a part of herself at Eidolon wall that day... They were pieces of her heart, of Gaia, that had become part of her.
He was starting to understand what Invincible was to him. Why he held the ship with such adore and was proud of its growth... it was a piece of Terra... He looked to her eyes when she thanked him. But there was no need because he would never hesitate to help her... or anyone that truly desired it. His gaze turned to the old god of thunder. His words were like bolts of lightning: there in an instant, burning awe into one's memory and gone in the blink of an eye. When he had faded away, back into Gaia, or wherever the Eidolon rest when they were kept bound to their summoner, he looked to the Queen of his world.
He was silent a moment and laughed softly, letting his arms fall, but not allowing his digits to depart from her own. "They aren't going to like it." He bade, the idea of Steiner or Beatrix letting their queen square off into danger with just him! "I don't really get what the old man said, kinda cryptic." He was always kind of that way, he supposed, but if he could surmise anything from it Ifrit was in Alexandria.
Looking to Dagger he'd nod. "What do you want to do?" He would not push her. He would wait until she decided what was best. Ramuh may have been one of the first she met, but surely there were ones closer to her, that she was born with like Mog and Eiko. MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS

Garnet felt her arms being drug downwards as Zidane’s arms fell, however, their hands remained intertwined. For a split second, Garnet was oblivious to what managed to elicit a soft bout of laughter from her beloved, until he exclaimed that her devoted protectors, likely implying Steiner and Beatrix wouldn’t be pleased. No, they wouldn’t. Garnet internalized as she’d envisioned the pair’s vocal objections, how they might attempt to stay her hand. It would be a fruitless endeavor on their behalf, both of her Knights knew that she was just a bull-headed as Zidane. Once she’d set her mind on something, devoted her heart to it, there was little in Gaia that could sway her to the wayside. [break][break] “Regardless of their objections, I won’t be swayed to remain idle… I’ve done so for far too long.” Garnet replied, her tone soft, regal, but most importantly it was unwavering. Her lips crept upwards, a playful smirk playing at her lips as Zidane confessed that he hadn’t understood the cryptic meanings behind Ramuh’s musings. Meanwhile, Garnet had already surmised the location of Shiva, the hint being a palace of her own making. The stoic, beautiful Glacian sovereign over a frigid, crystalline dominion, what other place resembled that other than the Ice Cavern , it was where Steiner, Vivi and herself had nearly frozen to death as Zidane dealt with the Black Waltz No.1 and his Sealion. [break][break] However, the commander of Hell’s fires location eluded the queen, despite knowing that he was somewhere within the labyrinth of pathways beneath the castle. Without knowing specifics, this meant the task was far more daunting and perilous, especially given the carnivorous beasts that acted as its’ protectors. Their close proximity provided Garnet with a small measure of comfort, perhaps, their close proximity also tied into their tight-knit bond with her. Though, she couldn’t substantiate that particular theory, not without some more concrete proof. When Zidane pressed for an answer, Garnet began to gnaw at her lower lip, taking a moment to think about what she truly wanted to do. [break][break] “ The Ice Caverns, Zidane, Shiva must be hiding with them… Perhaps, if we can find her, she can further elaborate upon where Ifrit is… it is simply too dangerous to explore beneath the Castle without a more solid location…” Garnet exclaimed softly, evidently, unwilling to risk not only her own life but Zidane’s by extension in the pursuit of her lost powers. She had no doubt, that together they could brave the Bandersnatch, though she wasn’t entirely certain for how long – an issue she wasn’t willing to brush aside haphazardly. Not after she’d been given a forceful reminder of their ferocity, something that paled in comparison to Beatrix and Steiner’s combined wraith. Oh, she was certain, they’d lode that over her for the foreseeable future. [break][break] “Zidane… you already know my answer… I have to find them.” Garnet reaffirmed, giving Zidane’s hand a firm squeeze, unwillingly to elaborate further upon her reasoning. “However, I will wait, my letters should have reached Amaranth, Freya and the others… they should be joining us within the next few days for a dinner…” Garnet tacked on, her head craning backwards as she’d stared up into the star-filled skies, pleased to see that Ramuh’s foreboding clouds had dissipated entirely. “Not the reunion, I envisioned… Nonetheless, I will inform them of my decision, I believe Beatrix and Steiner will understand… perhaps, the others will offer their aide.” Garnet mused, not truly believing her words especially given the distant that had come to exist between some of them. Her mood souring as she’d thought back to the absence of one particular member, Vivi, whom had since passed on. [break][break] “Let us retire my chambers though.. I will no doubt need my energy to deal with Steiner’s doting and Beatrix’s calloused demeanor.” Garnet resided, refusing to face those two particular adversaries without her wits around her. No, Beatrix wasn’t only skilled in swordplay, her knowledge of tactics and ability to manuiplate even the metaphorical battlefields was astonishing. She couldn’t let herself be defeated and placated into being content with her current life – the one that she detested..

Their time together, and apart, had taught him valuable lessons about his beloved. While he was remiss to admit his departure had been what was best for her at the time, so he could tie the off the loose ends of his past and save Kuja from himself: Dagger was impossibly strong and undeniably stubborn. Telling her no only did to spur her on and refusing her will only made it that much more determined. He doubted that it was something they taught her as a Princess. It was a natrual leadership that Dagger developed during their journey and during her growth. The seed of that leader slept inside a shell of stubbornness and pride. It took a war to force it open. It took unimaginable tragedy to wake her from her childish dreams. Zidane has watched her become a woman and make decisions most in her position would never have to. He watched her outwit a thief, a most clever thief at that. He has seen her tame the gods themselves if only to save millions from suffering. He has seen her hurt and broken, shattered by her own humanity. He has also seen her overcome all of her trials and tribulations than, come his own trial, of which he has fallen from the sun he had come too close to... She would stand before him and tell him... "We want to protect you to." Assuring him that all of his doubts had been for naught because he wasn't alone. He wasn't alone and neither was she! She would do to remember her own words on that day! He wasn't from Gaia, but it was his home and she was his Queen. "I know you won't..." Nothing could take her off the path she decided for herself. "It's your path." He paused, fingers intertwining with her own. " ...and I want to go with you." The familiar line was uttered from his lips. It was a line from the play of Ipsen's adventures which Zodane had recited to her during their stay in Maidain Sari. Though he always tried to be the cool guy there were times the sincerity behind his actions became crystal clear. His honesty was endearing and while a foolhearty youth: he had always believed everything he told others. He always believed in them, and always stood by them because... that's what friends did! He patiently waited for her answer and it didn't take long for the young, dutiful wueen to find answer in the Cascade of possibilities. The Ice Cavern. Though it had come off as a bit of a surprise it made sense. It was, beyond the Forgotten Continent, one of the coldest places on Gaia. But too it was close to her heart. He recall she fawned over the brilliant scenery of frozen foilage, touched by the kiss of a mystical, eternal winter. Maybe it has something to do with the Mist, as during their journey rumor has come that it was melting. But once the Mist returned it has regained its icy legend. Maybe it has been due to the Eidolon coming to inhabit it? No matter the reason she was set in her goal. Not even Steiner and Beatrix would stand in the way! He smiled warmly and stepped close, letting his face drift closer to her own. "Hey.." he whispered, his breathe ghosting along her lips he was so close... "We're all friends, right?" He reminded her. "We'll always have each other's back." That -- that was something Zidane believed with all his heart. "You reminded me of that, so I thought I'd return the favor." He allowed his head to drift down, his blue eyes searching her own for the consent of his actions. He would lean close and attempt to close off the distance between their lips, sealing his oath that he would stand by her side through her journey and never leave her again, so help him. Garnet’s attention shifted away from her beloved husband, fixated upon the horizon and what laid beyond – the potentially perilous journey. For a split second, Garnet feared that Zidane protest her undergoing her newest trial and tribulation. Her mind already busy considering the possibility of having to dose the food at her planned feast with Sleep Weed, knowing that it would buy her a couple of hours at most – enough for her to escape away to Treno. This particular train of thought abruptly halted as Garnet felt Zidane’s fingers working persistently worked themselves into between the tiniest gaps of hers. She’d spared a fleeting glance downwards, noting how Ramuh’s Peridot still pulsated softly, its’ radiance and splendor still present – if anything it had grown marginally stronger. [break][break] Garnet felt the tears as they’d welled up, gathering for a split second before they’d wordlessly slid down the side of her face. Her head craning up just a fraction of an inch so that she could gaze into his sapphire blue eyes, losing herself for a fraction of a second as her lips curved into a genuine smile. She fought against the urge to chuckle nervously to herself as Zidane took it a step further, daringly reciting one of her favorite lines from Ipsen’s adventures. Those same words, Colin’s answer to why he’d accompanied Lord Ipsen on his adventures despite the perils, it was these very words he’d recited to her what felt like an eternity ago. [break][break] Garnet so lost in her own thoughts didn’t notice that Zidane’s face had drifted so close to her own, not until she felt the warmth of his breathe as it’d tickled her flesh. His throaty whisper, it sent an electrical shock up and down the length of her spine, her fingers visibly trembling. In response to Zidane’s inquiry, Garnet managed a curt nod of her head – afraid to crush her beloved’s perception with the cold truth of reality. Certainly, they’d all once been friends, however, whom was to say that was still the case. She’d known for quite sometime that the relationship with the Burmecian’s was strained at best, it’d delved downwards into thinly veiled toxicity. [break][break] Garnet’s grip around Zidane’s fingers tightened in anticipation as he’d leant inwards. Her eyes fluttering softly shut as she’d leant inwards and closed the remainder of the distance. Her lips pressed softly against Zidane’s, her upper body leaning inwards as she’d used him to support her weight for a moment or two. While she wanted the moment to last forever, Garnet reluctantly reigned her desires in and pulled back just a fraction of an inch. She’d nonverbally gestured towards their company. “Let us retire for the night.” Garnet said softly as she’d extracted herself fully from Zidane’s embrace, though it was only to gather the numerous stones scattered about, each one she appraised in silence. A spark of hope returning to her as she’d note that Shiva’s stone had regained a fraction of its’ radiance – a dull blue glow emanating from the heart of the stone. Ifirt’s stone had a similar affect. [break][break] Garnet pocketed the stone, stuffing them into her numerous pockets for the time being before she’d reached out for Zidane’s hand, grasping it as she’d guide him towards her personal chambers. Zidane could feel her fingers tighten around his own, her firm hold silently demanding, clearly wanting, needing. Such made the thief lament. There was little he could do for her because underneath all that bravado was a man unable to drag down the moon for his beloved, but he had damn well tried. His kiss was warmly accepted, Zidane feeling that, despite any of it, they would find a way to get Dagger's Eidolon's back. He didn't think she could handle losing them of her own accord... Recovering them after theft was one one trauma, but finding that your own lackadaisical habits had been the cause of loss -- something Zidane understood. He had almost lost her because of his lackluster effort. Remembering their journey brought him great strength and reward, but it did also cause him pain. All of he stupid things he said, did. He had failed to support Dagger. He hadn't understood what sort of tenacity the woman had. While apart they had both faced difficult situations, but his own were a drop in the ocean when compared to hers, he felt. While an off-worlder himself he had a helping hand in this big wide world. "My poor Dagger, you had only just begun..." He thought as his lips pressed to her own in a gentleness that seemed to oft encompass their more intimate moments.A benign action that sometimes made the thief wonder... nevertheless... He had given her his oath! And his heart. In that moment time seemed to stop as he listened to every beat of her heart and bathed in the heat of her closeness. If eternity had a moment, it was this, he felt. When come time to part he would feel regret rear its ugly head, doubt supplant itself in the separation. If not for the eyes accompanying his queen's shadow he had half a mind to reengage. The motion was there, nigh indiscernible within the twitchy thief. He would press back in a moment's notice, had her voice not nettled into his ear. A smirk drew on his features."Sure Dagger." It was his gentle response. No sass. No crass comments.... she was tired. The day had worn her down. He knew that. He didn't mind, for a bit longer, just going at her pace. He would watch as she collected her stones. Her small entourage shuffling a bit uneasily at the romantic display. The light tint of pink on their cheeks made him wonder what had gone through their minds. It was just a little kiss. The thought made him painfully aware of who he was and just how taboo his action could be considered. A pauper and a princess, after all. Dagger's outstretched hand was a life saver, his impending thoughts suffocating his pride with fret. He took allowed his hand to close around her own as she led him off.In the end, it was a shocking truth to beholden. She was losing herself in her duty and therein losing what made her Dagger. He had thought she had learned that particular lesson. He'd show her again. You could take the queen out of the adventurer, but you could never take the adventurer out of the queen.
