‘Twas the week before Christmas, and all through the place, not a Shadow was stirring- Not one single trace. With joy and with glee, setting tables for three, the elves set to prepping the yearly party. And yet Santa Claus, as brave as he be, Had still dared to wonder, “Could they come for me?” He turned to his elves, and he gave a tall order to send out a bill and to bring him some warriors. The responses were plenty, too many in fact, for they knew where there’s danger, the paycheck is fat. Thus did they gather, at the edge of the snows. But what would come next? Well, who really knows..?
With Santa and his elves holed up inside, it fell to the newly hired mercenaries to defend the outside, though with fears of collateral damage in mind, they were denied their arms. No real threats were expected, thankfully- The bright snows were rarely beset with shadows. Still, all the cheer in the air was bound to attract some unwanted attention, so the extra muscle was considered a necessary precaution. The snows were quiet enough at first, but as night fell in those last few hours, one could already feel the approaching darkness. With shadows growing longer and the merriment only escalating, no Heartless would be able to resist such a poorly defended feast.
And come they did. Soon enough, the first appeared, a squadron of three shadows slipping out of the dunes to test the air. They were tentative at first, but quickly lost that caution when they caught sight of the towns new defenders. Twitching and scampering, they set across the snow, each moving to close the distance as quickly as they could. Perhaps, with how many opponents awaited them, caution would have suited them better...

Gyun honestly has no idea why he's here. It's just what mercenaries do. It's cold and wet and wet that's cold and that's also falling from the sky and getting in his mane and on his nose. He absolutely hates it. Why would anyone want to be here is beyond him. Why would people consider this to be fun. His fur provides him protection against the cold and he still doesn't like it, especially his paws, which are unpleasantly chilled. He was under the impression he could use blizzard! but apparently no, he can't just use ice magic, he has to pick snow up and throw it. Dumb. Then there's those things. Heartless they're called, apparently. Not many, it would be easy if he didn't have to use... snow... to deal with them.
Gyun watches as the small creatures skitter easily across the surface of the snow as if they're nearly weightless, looks to the others who also showed up, including Garnet! he recognizes her, waves, and smiles. He then moves forward to engage! and almost immediately finds all four of his limbs sunk into the powdery cold, which in turn distresses him greatly and makes his entire coat puff out like a dandelion. He does not get very far, it is unfortunate to be short and unused to the terrain, even his big paws can't compensate terribly well. He makes a very unhappy feline sounding noise amidst the snow, pouting over the situation he's gotten himself into.
Gyun moves forward 2 spaces and throws nothing, because he sucks at maneuvering through snow.

Location: Christmas Town Mood: Determined Status: Well Of all the places Ramza had visited so far, this had been one of the most astounding. It was a world within a world; to reach it, Ramza had to explore a forest contained in a world of frights, of demons and ghosts and tricksters that dabbled in all that was terrifying. Inside that world, inside that forest, were doors to many other pocket worlds, all themed around something - something the Ivalicean, unfamilliar with such holidays and festivities, could not quite recognize.
Despite not having the concept of "Christmas" in his world, there was something joyous in the air of that Town that clearly transmitted to Ramza a sense of peace, gratitude and collaboration. He felt entrapped by the atmosphere, and felt compelled to explore the snowy place.
It didn't take long for him to meet the Lord of that colorful castle: the man titled Santa Claus, which delivered gifts to children at the end of the year. Such a man was nothing short of noble, and quickly captured Ramza's admiration.
As such, when Ramza learned the Town was in danger at the hands of a heartless attack, he didn't take long to volunteer to help. Despite the... Odd limitations imposed - no violence, even when faced with it. Snowballs instead of swords.
Ramza was used to walking the hardest path in the name of what was right. If Santa Claus wanted to do the same, Ramza would walk right beside him.
As such, the Knight found himself in a makeshift fort, waiting for the horde. This was his kind of battle, his natural terrain; Ramza was trained as a leader and tactician. Positioning and strategy were his specialties. He would bring victory to Santa Claus' cause, at any cost!
The first creatures appeared, the small, not-so-dangerous creatures called Shadows. They skittered close, cautiously, testing the waters. Ramza knew they were not that smart, and a plan quickly hatched within his head.
"Comnrades!" He shouted, drawing the attention of his fellow fighters under the hailing snow. "I'll draw their attention. Take this opportunity to decimate the enemies! For Ivalice!" Screaming, Ramza advanced, taking advantage of his high mobility to quickly close the gap between the creatures. Ramza knew the Heartless were driven by instinct and attacked whatever was close; his idea was to make himself the closest thing, draw the ire of the three creatures, and make them come together at the middle of the battlefield, open for the attack of his comnrades.
He was exposing himself to a risk but, as far as he was aware, these smaller ones weren't so dangerous. He could take some hits - though he would do his best to avoid them.
[OOC: Ramza moved four squares forward and one to the right, placing himself right in the middle of the two groups of shadows, trying to bait them into attacking him]

"I'll stay back and provide cover fire! Just keep their attention off me!" Maeve, the golden swordswoman, called out to the young Knight as he charged forward. She clenched her fists and let out a slow exhale, creating a plume of frost from her fanged maw. The fiery spirited hero wasn't unused to the colder climate, there were many lands in her world that were covered in the ice and snow after all... Yet, she had never been told to fight with such limitations that this 'Sandy Claws' had imposed upon her. Still, despite this she was happy to be there to help. From the stories she had heard this man in red was quite the hero himself, spreading joy and love to the denizens of his world. So, when she heard that more of those damned heartless had been scurrying about she knew she had to do something to stop them. She was honored to aid this hero so he may bring his 'Christmas magic' to the world! So with determination burning in her heart Maeve used her multiple arms to start piling snow into her hands to create a great big ball. A low powerful growl rumbled from her lips as she quickly drew in and shaped the ball of frosty white fluff. Scoop after scoop, pat after pat, in an instant she'd be left with a volley ball sized sphere of snow! A confident smirk formed on her lips as she held it up in her hands.
"Let's go!"
Maeve called out as she tossed the ball straight into the air before crouching down in preparation. After a moment of preperation: the esper suddenly lept up into the air in a pose similar to her 'Diving Beacon's' leap. Rather than crashing down with a mighty sword however: Maeve would reel back and spike the airborne snowball with a crushing amount of force! The once harmless looking ball would suddenly rocket toward the Heartless directly in front of her like a speeding bullet, threatening to crash into it with the thundering combination of Maeve's determination and the Joy of the Christmas season!

Contrary to most assumptions, the snow wasn't quite as useless a weapon as some may have thought. In fact, the Shadow that was struck with Maeve's icy ball of powder recoiled dramatically in shock, and the white stain that remained was much more than mere lingering frost. The creature froze up in place and cracked with light before turning to mist and fading, its Heart floating into the air soon after. Either they were unusually weak to the stuff, or this particular patch of snowflakes had some nifty properties to it! With the Shadow dispersed, balls of green energy bounced to a stop in the snow, each radiating with an inviting glow. Some folk, looking upon those orbs, may remember seeing them in the past.
The other two weren't intimidated by their fallen brother. Both were far too occupied with the knight who had strayed a bit too close, veering west to leap at him with claws a-slashing. Without any weaponry to parry the blows, he was left without any defense against the attacks.
Meanwhile, the air thickened as the night grew darker. These Shadows were not the end of what was to come, that much was clear, and the darkness seemed to pool in two spots to the north. Beyond that, further north, a third pit began to form, made from a dark much different than that which carried the Heartless...

Location: Christmas Town Mood: Determined Status: Light Injuries Ramza observed as one of his partners destroyed one of the creatures with a very powerful snowball. The Knight, however, had no time to cheer; pain clouded his world as the creatures landed their attack. He gritted his teeth and moved on - everything was according to the plan, and pain was part of it.
He did realize, however, that the creature that died had left something behind. He had seen those things before when fighting against Heartless; small green orbs that soothed the pain and healed injuries. Perhaps it was a bit selfish of him to take advantage of the spoils of someone else, but, on the other hand, he was by far the one who needed the most, since he was acting like bait.
He decided his partners would likely forgive him. Before he moved, however, he kneeled down, gathering a handful of snow, shaped it with his hands, and threw against the heartless right in front of him. Then, he retreated, using his high mobility to grab the HP ball and retreat back closer to his partners.

Maeve felt a mixture of emotions as both her and the heartless' attacks were successful. The fact that her allies didn't provide the brave knight with any further cover fire was a little worrying to her. She didn't have the speed in this terrain to cover him like she normally could. That, and she couldn't use her magic to teleport due to Sandy Claws' limitations. So all she could do was call out to the knight. "I-I can't cover you if you move too far away! Please be careful!" She urged him as she began to trudge through the ice and snow. Maeve took a few heavy steps to the right, her large clawed feet leaving monstrous tracks as she got in a better position. Seeing how she couldn't target any of the heartless from this position she would instead take on a defensive stance. The Esper may not be able to move far in the winter wonderland but she'd still be able to keep her feet planted and ready to dodge in case an attack came whizzing her way. "We need to work together everyone! Keep on your toes, I feel like this only the beginning!" The Dragoness uttered, her eyes narrowing as she awaited the oncoming enemies.

Gyun spots the heartless encroaching on one of his apparent allies, and prepares to intercept and assist when he is attacked, but Ramza apparently can handle himself and easily engages one of the two pursuing him. Unfortunately, the other one is out of his his range, and he has no way of judging whether his assistance would be a wasted effort. Everyone is being really quite dramatic about this situation which... honestly is mildly amusing to him. Certainly there's very real danger but the idea of fighting that danger with balls of snow makes this entire ordeal seem somehow comical to him.
Still, he can't really argue that working together might be the best idea, and seeing as members of their party have yet to determine their best course of action, and the growing unpleasantness easily visible in the glistening white even at night, he decides his best course of action is to move to intercept what looks to be the biggest, angriest thing, to he does. Charging as aggressively as he can, Gyun manages to drag himself an L shaped groove in the snow, or at least, close to it.
Gyun moves one space west and one space north.

Though the knight may have fared rather well had he his arms, the truth was that, without them, his swift counterattack just wasn't enough. Though battered by the snowball, the Shadow he struck led a charge straight after him, with its brother following close behind. Just after the green orbs mended most of his wounds with their odd powers, they both set upon him again, lashing at him with the same ferocity as before. They certainly didn't seem eager to let their prey flee so easily.
Meanwhile, the darkness to the north finally took shape, bringing another two Shadows into being. They hadn't the time to move just yet, but their blank yellow eyes were already searching for prey to pursue. The third pit opened wider as, accompanied by the droning whine of a Corridor straining to transport its load, another being stepped into the open space on two tall, distinctly human legs. That said, 'human' was a rather generous term, as it wasn't a truly corporeal thing. No, even though it held the shape of a man, its features were a vague void of black, with only the slightest red tints to imply any definitions. That said, the shape had been seen before, in a field of snow much like this. With little hesitation, the stranger drew a sword colored with the same shadowy blackness as the rest of him, joining the Heartless in their search...

Gyun stares at the figure that rises out of the darkness, and a sly, very smug and satisfied grin creeps across his muzzle, well at least so far as one can, he is so going to... he is shaken out of his fantasy of brutal snowball themed catharsis by the realization that somebody just almost died and if he doesn't act smart they'll soon be overwhelmed. Appropriately channeled frustrations will have to wait until the enemy numbers have thinned lest the same fate befall him. He's sure everyone grouped together can handle it.
Gyun dashes east as fast as his powerful but admittedly short legs will carry him, and scoops up a ball of snow in the process. His paws are enormous, so the snowball is also suitably large, and warm, so it's... slightly iced over. With all the grace and poise of a catapult, he flings the snowball with great force at the shadow in the distance, and perks as it vanishes in an exploding cloud of snow from his attack. He's pretty sure it just suffered a critical structural failure from that impact. ... Snowballs are neat!
Gyun moves two tiles east and throws a snowball three tiles north to bash the Shadow for Four Snowball Element Damage.

Location: Christmas Town Mood: Determined Status: Critical Perhaps the Knight had underestimated his enemies. He didn't expect them to be able to reach him; perhaps he should have stood a little more distant. Regardless, he was now weakened by the blows.
Still, he fought. He attacked the same Heartless with another snowball - and then, made a run for it. He would have to tak advantage of his mobilitty to pester the enemy from afar, unfortunately.
Busy in his escape, Ramza had still not noticed the cursed child who had appeared alongside the heartless; his sworn and long-time enemy.

"Oh no!" Maeve called out, seeing Ramza continually battered by the shadows. Perhaps leaving him to draw their ire wasn't the best plan... She had to step up to to help! "Hey try to stay back for a while!" The esper called out to Ramza as she locked in on the shadow coming at him from the north. With a fierce growl she scooped up a snowball in each of her multiple hands. "Die monster! You don't belong in this world!" She called out as she hurled all of the snowballs at once. The bombardment of snowballs all whizzed together to create an impact similar to her first one. Hopefully it'd be enough to relieve the pressure that was threatening to consume Ramza. In her desperate bid to slay the shadowy beast however, she didn't realize that something truly wicked had come to join the fray. At least not at first. As soon as she released the flurry of snowballs she caught a sense of Holly Jolly Dread and looked up only to see the distorted shadowy boy take a heavy step forward. Her headfins flagged up and down a bit in alarm as she dashed aside to try and intercept him before he got too close.

With two more Shadows being dispatched, those which remained went on the move. They Performed a rendezvous of sorts, congregating where the closest patch of green orbs fell instead of pursuing the fleeing knight. Judging by their changing stances, they were smart to do so, as the orbs relieved them of their wounds, leaving them fully refreshed for when they would take up the chase again.
Meanwhile, the black phantom to the north had made its decision, moving with a brisk pace to intercept the nearby moomba. Once in a line of sight with the creature it skidded to a halt, dipped its hand down and... scooped up a healthy portion of snow. Plunging its sabre into the ice for safekeeping, the phantom used both hands to pack the snow together, and between its ghostly fingers the white fluff took on a gray, then black, then an oozing pitch purple color. Satisfied, the phantom wound an arm back with the wretched snowball in hand, then beamed it forward with a malicious velocity. Nothing, especially not the empty air could hope to stop the thing as it pierced through whatever poor materials lie in its way, including its furry target if he didn't think to evade it. Only several meters past its target did it suddenly lose all its momentum and burst in the air. Though it had picked its sword back up, the phantom was still hunching low to the ground, and seemed ready to strike again.

Location: Christmas Town Mood: Determined Status: Critical Ramza heard the command from his partner, urging him to stay back, and nodded in agreement. Indeed, he was now confined to the sidelines, until he managed to grab another recovery sphere. One was left behind by one of the creatures, but unfortunately another Shadow managed to grab it before Ramza could.
However, his vision was clouded with rage as he saw Blaise hit the battlefield. Staying away from the fray, Ramza started to move towards his sworn enemy.

Gyun has plenty of time to react to this strange turn of events, and he does so by flinging himself bodily into the snow in a spray of powder, something quite easy for him to do considering he generally moves on four limbs anyway and he's covered in warm, lifegiving fluff. His crimson mane peeks up out of the drift probably higher than he would have liked, scarlet in a see of white, and the not-snowball whizzes over him like a missile. This was perhaps not the best course of action, he's pretty sure it did not even touch him and logic would dictate he'll be fine... but he's not sure that matters, everything he's seen lately is weird.
Regardless, Gyun pops out of the snow like a cat-in a box, accompanied by a deluge of scattered white, and fires back with a volley of his own, heaving a snowball of his own for the shade of... well, honestly he can't really call this fellow a friend. It's been a while since he last saw him and every time they've met so far he's done something or other that's a little insulting, like calling him a pet and wanting to make a hat out of him. Perhaps beaming this thing in its smug face will make him feel better! ... the throw doesn't really seem to, probably because it's not him and also because it never seemed to be something he did intentionally, he was just kind of like that. He gets the strong feeling this thing is here for him either way.
Gyun attempts to DODGE! but never went to proper dodge school and tries to duck under the advancing projectile and may regret it. Gyun retaliates with an attack of his own!
