‘Twas the week before Christmas, and all through the place, not a Shadow was stirring- Not one single trace. With joy and with glee, setting tables for three, the elves set to prepping the yearly party. And yet Santa Claus, as brave as he be, Had still dared to wonder, “Could they come for me?” He turned to his elves, and he gave a tall order to send out a bill and to bring him some warriors. The responses were plenty, too many in fact, for they knew where there’s danger, the paycheck is fat. Thus did they gather, at the edge of the snows. But what would come next? Well, who really knows..?
With Santa and his elves holed up inside, it fell to the newly hired mercenaries to defend the outside, though with fears of collateral damage in mind, they were denied their arms. No real threats were expected, thankfully- The bright snows were rarely beset with shadows. Still, all the cheer in the air was bound to attract some unwanted attention, so the extra muscle was considered a necessary precaution. The snows were quiet enough at first, but as night fell in those last few hours, one could already feel the approaching darkness. With shadows growing longer and the merriment only escalating, no Heartless would be able to resist such a poorly defended feast.
And come they did. Soon enough, the first appeared, a squadron of three shadows slipping out of the dunes to test the air. They were tentative at first, but quickly lost that caution when they caught sight of the towns new defenders. Twitching and scampering, they set across the snow, each moving to close the distance as quickly as they could. Perhaps, with how many opponents awaited them, caution would have suited them better...

He didn't come out here for the munny, but rather out of duty to protect a place from the Heartless. He would've been pretty confident that he could take out the Heartless that were supposedly in the area with ease if....if he had his keyblade at his disposal that is. It was true that his weapon was one he could summon and dismiss on whim, but he was bound by honor and rules not to use it. Santa Claus had allowed him to come to help, but only if he agreed to use snowballs instead. It was a pretty odd request and one that at first made the keyblader wonder if the old man had lost his mind.
Surely the older man knew that Heartless were dangerous enough to warrant a weapon right? So why ban them? Why force them to use only snow? Was it pure ignorance that drove the man to request this or was there something the older gent knew about Heartless that he didn't? It was hard to say, but the fact remained that the keyblader was a bit concerned about this choice. Even so, he would obey the rules and not summon his keyblade. Even when the enemy made themselves known, the young man would stay his hand and focus on just getting close enough to throw snow at the creatures.

So they were guards… without weapons. Quite an odd position to stand in, throwing snowballs against thieves and the like would just be plain weird. However, soon enough black creatures popped up. The Heartless. Looking at the ink-black figures, Ysera had encountered them before and fired arrows into their faces before. This time, however, she didn't really have such a thing. Only snow, she supposed.
Looking towards her sides at the others, she moved a bit around Skippy as she moved somewhat before him to stand in range with the Shadow before them as she took up some snow and started packing a snowball. Then she tossed it at the Shadow.
Actions 1. Moved left and forward (I'm assuming we can move through each other's spaces, but not stand in the same space, correct? Was looking through the rules for this). 2. Threw a snowball at the Shadow forward.
Status Power: 3 Speed: 2 Range: 4
OOC Note Was looking through the rules for moving and standing in same spaces with others and couldn't find anything on it unless I'm missing it. Also as it says two actions, I'm assuming if I used both actions for movement, I would be able to move 4 spaces with 2 speed, right? I'm atm on vacation, so it makes posting and asking things a little more difficult. If I did anything wrong, please PM me here on the forum.

With an eager shuffle, Skippy crunched through the snow; both Righty and Lefty complaining about the cold. In a band of unfamiliar faces, but determined nonetheless the lively toon fox was ready to tango with any trouble that might rear its ugly head. It didn't take long for such events to transpire as a handful of shadows crept out of the scenery and quickly closed in on Skippy and company. By trained reaction, the fox reached for his hip to brandish his sword, and with a swift tug he swung forth... thin air. His shoes collectively sighed and rolled their eyes as the fox inspected the blinking outline of the weapon he'd somehow forgotten he wasn't allowed to bring.
While Ysera made their way around him, the fox chucked the non-existent weapon over his shoulder and tapped his chin in thought. Ultimately shrugging; the toon scooted to get past his team-mate and made a dash towards the nearest shadow, reaching down to draw up a handful of snow on his way over, which more or less collected into a ball roughly the size of one's head. Never being one to do things without a personal touch, Skippy thumbed in two eyes and a broad smile into his newly formed creation of winter warfare before attempting to slam it over his target's head at close range. "This'll cool ya, ya goon!"

✉ notes: alex is a crabby boi what is my true calling in this universe? climbing past these walls is my fate and curse. Well, he wasn't sure how he got here, but really, the whole thing was a wild ride to begin with. Imagine growing up in the real world, and eventually having part of your childhood smashed when you learned, as many children eventually do, that Old Man Santa wasn't real. For someone who enjoyed tinkering, it hit Alex especially hard. Now, imagine that all gets turned on its head and you find out that Santa Claus is indeed real. It's like for one brief moment, you become that giddy kid waiting for Christmas day again.
And then you actually meet Santa. What a joke.
Defend Santa from the Heartless? There was no higher calling. To save the apparently real hero to all children was an honor! At least right up until Kringle had explicitly stated that no weapons were to be used. When Alex raised his hand, and pointed out that the Heartless, the apparently delicate creatures that needed kid gloves, had literally killed him before, Santa just... blew it off. Didn't even acknowledge it, just dove straight into the egg nog.
The fat man didn't even offer to share. Jerk.
Which brought him here. At least he was getting paid. So there was that. But he wasn't really sure if he cared about getting a lump of coal anymore. In fact he hadn't gotten jack in years! His teeth bit down harder on his cigar, and Alexander, Grinch that he was, began to move around the field to try and flank those Heartless creatures, rolling up a snowball along the way, grumbling all the while. He tried to ignore the growing tightness in his chest. Man, for such a cold place, he felt really hot, and he swore he was beginning to sweat. Just don't think about them. He maneuvered around Riku--hey kid, how's it going? Everything good with you?--and wound up at his side.
What a crock.

Contrary to most assumptions, the snow wasn't quite as useless a weapon as some may have thought. In fact, the Shadow that was struck with the icy ball of powder recoiled massively in shock, and the white stain was much more than mere lingering frost. Once pelted with a second, the creature froze up in place and cracked with light before turning to mist and fading, its Heart floating into the air soon after. Either they were unusually weak to the stuff, or this particular patch of snowflakes had some nifty properties to it! With the Shadow dispersed, balls of green energy bounced to a stop in the snow, each radiating with an inviting glow. Some folk, looking upon those orbs, may remember seeing them in the past.
The other two weren't intimidated by their fallen (er, vaporized) brother. One kept on charging closer, stopping only to turn on a heel and swing its claws at the undefended keyblader, Riku. The other, meanwhile, wasn't close enough to its target to land any attacks, so it defaulted in place, turning flat and melting into the folds of the ground.
Meanwhile, the air thickened as the night grew darker. These Shadows were not the end of what was to come, that much was clear, and the darkness seemed to pool in two spots to the north...

How is it going? I am pain from this little sh--er...beast hitting me. Lady Luck is not on my side today, but outside of that how are you? -- And so it began. The Heartless were such a pain sometime and as the little beast got its hit in, the keyblader almost did summon his weapon just to retaliate against it; however, he would grit his teeth as he glared daggers at the creature, his arm stinging from where the creature had managed to smack him as he quickly gathered snow into a ball. A bitter smirk would form upon his lips as he took the nice size ball and attempted to smash the little devil right where it stood finding the lack of weapons a bit silly. Still maybe his agitation with the Heartless could give him strength to take them out.

She popped out of a snow bank with a cough. All she could really remember was receiving a letter that smelled of peppermint, a call for help evidently. She was never one to turn down a desperate plea like this, though she hadn't expected to be instantly teleported after saying "I'm game!!". Still, that was what was going on, so she had to act!! She took only a moment to observe her surroundings before catching wind of the situation. The closest thing in her sight was a gray haired boy getting attacked by a monster!! She leapt into action, rolling sideways and reaching for... A snowball?? Her attempts to draw her weapon only resulted in her grabbing a freshly prepared snowball for some reason...Though then she remembered the uh...Clause that was addressed in that strange letter, no pun intended. "No weapons, Santa has no place for violence!" Well, whatever! A weapon was a weapon. She chucked the thing like a baseball and sent it flying right towards the heartless closest to her!Hopefully her attack met it's mark. She'd wave to Riku, grinning."Hi there! Oh you know, just trying not to lose my mind right now, the usual. And try he did, as the moment he saw Riku get clawed up everything stopped for him. He felt a wave of dizziness wash over him, and it took him a few moments to reorient himself, feeling an old gnawing pain. His hand went instinctively to his chest, and he took a moment. Right, breathe. The kid looked like he was still alive, and it looked like he had this covered. He had to admit, he had expected to be over this right now. With their other compatriot taking a shot as well as Riku, he took a long, slow breath. Inhaled through his nose to the count of 7, held until 4, and exhaled through his mouth until 8.
He looked around the field, noticing that he could really see any others, were they all cleared out already? Alex moved further to the sides, but only slightly. If there were anymore of them, it would be good to get the drop on them. He closed his eyes for a moment, making sure to keep an eye on the others, right. He'd make it through this. He just needed to keep it cool, no need to make the others wonder about him, right? "Is that all of them? We should keep an eye out for any that might be arriving." Try and get back into it, Alex.

"That'll learn ya!" The toon rejoiced as the shadow was surprisingly easily obliterated by the snowy assault. Skippy gave a victorious swing of his fist and smirked "These creepy crooks are total daisies! I could do this whole gig myse-" The fox's boasting was cut short as caught sight of one of his team being brought considerable harm. "Uh-oh." The self-taught hero frowned, and eventually scowled; the good guys weren't supposed to get roughed up like that - but the bad news kept coming. In his distraction, Skippy hadn't seen the other shadow obfuscate its form. "Hey wait a minute, where's the other one?" the toon inquired in concern, turn about and around to no avail. "I don't know, we can't see a thing down here!" Righty replied in general annoyance.
He had some big decisions to make, watch out for the vanishing act or help where the action was getting dicey... Skippy's face screwed up in thought before a lightbulb quite tangibly materialized with an audible Ding! The fox brought up a finger as his expression brightened. Oh yeah, he had team-mates! Surveying his surroundings once more he spotted the nearest friendly face and frantically waved his arms over his head at the blue-haired girl a little ways south of him. "Hey! Hey you! The Jane with the chilly locks!" he shouted. Assuming he even had her attention he started to point around with both hands at the general area he could recall the missing shadow being. "I gotta scram! I need you to watch out for the slippery spook who got away!" he requested before making a stiff and hurried march through the snow in a beeline towards Riku and Alex. Lefty and Righty meanwhile sputtered and complained as their faces were tread through the snow, but the monotone vulpine didn't even slow down in his determined gait towards the shadow that had managed to cause trouble. The only trouble was; would he be quick enough?
The other question was; how on earth did he miss big glowing green balls, and what were they for?

Looking at the first Shadow fade and how the others were handling things, Ysera moved a bit closer to where green orbs were dropped. Hmm? she shrugged, noting that a Shadow had decided to disappear, likely performing its signature ability to move as a shadow. Taking up some snow, she was preparing herself as the air seemed to grow thicker.
Deciding to move a bit more to the side, Ysera figured she'd keep the space before she'd move further. It wasn't like she could walk much in the snow. Perhaps she should consider taking flight, she had wings after all. For now she stayed at her position as she made sure to keep check of the others.

Sure enough, the second Shadow was brought down just as easily as the first, the snow making a hard impact against the creature before it burst into smoke just like before. This one saw even less mercy, being struck not only with one hit from range, but with another from a point-blank distance that was lobbed with enough force that, even if the snow weren't enchanted, would probably have concussed the poor thing. Once more, a pile of glowing orbs spilled to the ground, though they were more plentiful this time- Likely due to how forcefully they'd been drawn out.
As the last Shadow crept over to cut off the Gria (and subsequently paused to regain a form that could actually attack), the darkness to the north finally took shape, bringing another two Shadows into being. They hadn't the time to move just yet, but their blank yellow eyes were already searching for prey to pursue.

She could only let out an audible whistle in response to the heartless being completely decimated by snow alone. Something like that was unheard of, even in legends! It made her happy to have been able to help someone in distress too. But wow, was this going to make a story when she got home!
"The guys back at the temple are NEVER going to believe this one! -Hey uh...You!"
She looked over at Skippy with a friendly smile, seemingly preparing to ask a question all while garbed in that bright red costume of hers.
"So all this that's going on...This is part of that tradition I've heard about right? The one you otherworlders celebrate? "Chris's mass"? So tell me, where's the rotund guy who offers valuable items in exchange for the sacrifice of baked goods?"
She tilted her head, genuinely curious, from her...Odd description it was pretty clear she had no idea what Christmas was, or hardly even why she was there beyond "I gotta help people, yo!". Though while she waited for a response, she noted two interesting things...First was the guy who seemed deeply panicked by the little dark buggers running about, the other thing? The two extra sets of beady eyes glowing and piercing through the snowfall ahead. She elected to try and meet up with the fancy-suited man in the glasses, to see if she could perhaps help him calm down. For all her playfulness in the middle of this combat, she could still recognize when something was serious. She trudged onward through the deep snow, trying to get a good footing, though finding it kinda hard.

Well now. It seemed the snow really did work. Either that or his anger throw combined with the attack of another was just too much for the creature. It was odd, but seeing that shadow go down brought some relief to him as he looked over at the girl that had spoken to him with a smirk.
“Well it’s better to be late than never show up,” he would tell her, his tone more playful than anything for a moment before he became serious again as aquamarine eyes scanned the area seeing how everyone else was fairing. It looked like another one of the creatures had been taken out and another had decided to use its annoying hiding maneuver to avoid being hit or detected; however, the veteran keyblader could still sense its presence as the air became thicker and the darkness stronger in the area.
“Keep on your toes. They like to hide out from time to time and no the battle is far from over,” the keyblader would say as the heavy air shifted and took form. “You gonna be alright?” he would ask as he took notice of Alex strange behavior. He wasn’t sure what that knock to his arm had caused to occur in the guy, but he did take notice of the way he didn’t seem to handle that well. It made him wonder if the guy had ever been on the battlefield before. Come on pops, hold it together.
That aside, he would take note everyone was moving towards him with the exception of the quiet winged girl that was seeming to have her own issue at the moment as the previously hidden creature appeared again. “Watch yourself!” he would warn the winged girl before turning his attention back to the new arrivals on the field. Bracing himself and hoping not to be smacked again like before the keyblader would move to meet the enemy; however due to thick snow that progress was going to be a bit slow. Still as he moved, he would pause to collect some of the HP balls lying around, the green orbs healing him up as he moved over them before moving forward again placing him right next to the strange toon fox. Well, she had been asked to pay attention to the disappeared one by the somewhat animal-looking person. Ysera wasn't sure what she could consider Skippy to be, but wasn't one to start imploring on things either. Some of the others were talking quite a bit too, also the girl that popped in last was talking on whatever event was taking place. Honestly, she knew as little as she did... Maybe less. She didn't know.
Then a warning came as she looked upon something popping next to her. The ball she had packed together when she moved then was released from her hand as she tossed it at full force in the Heartless' face as she stayed standing. From her eye-corners, she could see more popping up. So heading further north didn't seem to be the best option. Instead she chose to stay there. Thus far she remained silent, not like she ever was talkative to begin with.
