Personality:
Alexander is a surprisingly brainy guy, that just comes with the territory. Give him something with machinery or technology and he can probably figure it out given enough time. It's just that right now, business hasn't been all that good for him, so he's got to find other work. He also knows how to make a mean Rum Martinez. Also comes with the current job, so there's that if you ever want to lord how fancy you are over him.
That being said, he is diligent, and can be a bit of a go getter at times. If he puts his sights to something, then he's going to do everything he can to try and achieve his goals... mostly. He has lines, actual moral lines he won't cross, but he can be a bit single minded at times when he puts his mind to it.
Whether someone could call him a coward well, he's a regular guy on a Kingdom Hearts site, can you really blame him for figuring it's a good idea to get out of dodge? In truth, it's less that he's a coward, and more that he's just practical. He's no match for people with magical key-shaped deathswords and giant dark monsters and giant nothing monsters. Granted, if he should ever get better, then you can probably expect to see him run less.
He's got a smarter mouth than he really should, letting out snips when he probably shouldn't. While he's got a limit and even he can tell there's a point where he really needs to shut up, he's more than likely to shoot barbs at someone if he thinks he can get away with it without dying horribly. This also leads to him being able to hold a hell of a grudge, and it takes a long time for him to let go, especially if it's never addressed.
History:
There really isn't much to Alexander Sorel. He was born near the end of Radiant Garden's prosperous era, when Ansem the Wise ruled and everyone knew peace and light. His childhood was relatively peaceful, and his parents did what they could to set him up for when they were gone. Of course, that came a little sooner than expected, somewhat. It first started with strange monsters when he was around twelve or so. No one really understood what they were and while the castle guard were able to keep them in check, it was dangerous enough that Alexander was kept inside.
Over the ten years after that however, he really began to grow. Taking a shine to more technological affairs, he came to enjoy working with machinery and technology, enough to try and make a living off of it. This didn't work out so well, and as a result, he had to take up tending bars as his main source of income, while keeping his actual passion as something on the side. Not ideal, but hey, you do what you gotta do, right? At the very least, everything was stable again, and he figured he could survive like this.
And then the Heartless attacked. Joy.
This time, staying inside didn't really work. Alex was one of the many consumed by the Heartless when Radiant Garden fell. He doesn't really remember much from that time, just darkness, lots of darkness, and one day he found himself back home, mostly. Radiant Garden, then Hollow Bastion, but now Radiant Garden again apparently, was still a complete mess, but hey, at least he was starting to get more work. He could tend bars less and less. But the idea that he had effectively, well, died, (he wasn't sure how else to describe it) rattled him. So while he's been making a living, he's been looking into other arts, seeing how he can keep something like that from happening again.
Dying really hurts, man.

Under a set of bright lights and with a light hum, a solitary finger tapped the bar as he watched everyone enjoying themselves. Well, except for those drowning their sorrows but you get the idea. Ever since people had been coming back and starting to get a handle on everything around here, Radiant Garden, occasional Heartless aside, seemed to have quieted down quite a bit. He wasn't sure how to feel about that, honestly. While the reprieve was nice, even he knew enough that it was only that; a reprieve. There'd be some other calamity down the road and then everything would go to hell again, it was all he'd ever known.
He was pulled from his thoughts, his golden eyes glancing towards a young, beaming man. Apparently he had managed to get a date, and he was here to show off, judging by the amount of munny he placed on the bar. Alex looked down for a moment, before his eyes trailed back up. "Card." He said, reaching his hand out a bit. What he was asking for, definitely couldn't serve to kids... judging by the smoky haze, this place probably wasn't kid friendly to begin with. Smoking was bad for them, didn't they know that?
The young man, clearly having not expected that, began making a series of excuses. Alex let him talk, placing a hand on his hip and, maintaining a stoicism that would make a news anchor proud, kept that smirk off his face as he listened. These were always pretty good. It was a circle of excuses that only ended when Alex shook his head, pointing to the door. "Out." Better not take his chances at least. He looked around at the other patrons; the noise had slowly died down as they were watching the scene unfold, apparently they found mirth in this too.
Flustered and clearly embarrassed, the young man sulked out of the bar, his snickering date following along with him. Alex shrugged, at least it'd be a memorable date night for those two. He looked at the clock, it was getting late, and business would be slowing down for a bit. He supposed it wouldn't be too bad to do so. The patrons could always just let him know they needed something. So he reached under and began fishing, only pulling out a book that he flipped open and started to read.
A teacher would be nice, but this would have to do.
