YOU COULD HAVE RULED THE WHOLE WORLD IF YOU ONLY HAD A CHANCE ➳ | ➳ | ➳ THE FREESHOOTER ||
Braig slid out of the alleyway and wound his way through the narrow cobblestoned corridoors. A single Sharpshooter was clenched in his gloved hand, but judging from the fading shadows behind him, one was all he had needed. He was thankful that the twin arrowguns still responded to his call (their arrows had already saved him more than once), but they reminded him too much of his time spent as Xigbar. Funny how losing one's heart tends to leave a bitter taste in the mouth.
Braig had ample time until Master Xehanort called forth the Seekers again, and until then he was free to make his own fortune. What exactly he was supposed to do during his "time off" wasn't clear to the sniper, but he couldn't care less.
After all, it was all just a part of the plan... right? Waste some time until that younger Xehanort got all the pieces in place for the next step... whatever that was. Though, truth be told, Braig was beginning to get a bit irate with just how long it was taking that old coot to pay his end of the bargain. Not that there was anything he could do about it; he was in way too deep to renegotiate now.
The Freeshooter let the rifle fade into wisps of darkness before swinging a hard left out onto a more populated path. This particular road seemed oddly familiar, but years of absence left him with little sense of direction. He followed the flow of the crowd into a small plaza, curiosity having piqued his interest. This place was evidently some kind of marketplace, as dozens of small stands selling almost every kind of trinket imaginable left the square buzzing with activity.
Walking slowly, Braig examined the wares for sale. He didn't actually have any munny, what few funds he had saved had quickly been spent days ago, but it never hurt to look. Plus, if the rumors on the street were true, these little marketplaces were a good place for a gun-for-hire to find some quick work. Maybe doing odd jobs wasn't exactly the most dignified use of his time, but he could definitely use the munny.
Braig stopped in front of a strange little booth, selling goods he couldn't identify and picked up an oddly shaped silver object. The gunman turned it over in his palm a few times, contemplating whether he would be able to successfully pilfer the small object before anyone noticed.

[attr="class","burst"] [attr="class","whitenight"]❝ It was a beautiful day in the Garden. The sky was blue, and the sun was shining bright. Rina had decided to set up her booth in the market today, choosing to stay home instead of traveling to peddle her wares. It was a nice change. The day had been mostly uneventful. She had made a nice profit today and had almost decided to pack up for the day when something odd caught her eye. A stranger with a long ponytail and an eyepatch was sauntering through the market. Rina kept a watchful eye on him, feeling an uneasiness beginning within her. There’s something about him...I don’t like it. Rina watched him go from booth to booth seemingly browsing. Before long the odd man was at her booth gazing over the items she had laid out. Rina flashed the man a small smile then went about her business starting to pack up a few things but watching him out of the corner of her eye. Rina watched him pick up on of her wares. She turned towards him and made eye contact him (Do I look at the eye or the patch?) and put her hands on her hips. The look on her face said it all. She knew what he was up to. “Hey!”Rina was about to tell him what for…when she stopped herself. She didn’t know him and didn’t know who he was…it was just a small trinket. If he wanted it that bad, he could have it. She looked down.“Um…keep it. It’s yours. It’s not much. It’s supposed to help tell the weather.” | [attr="class","white"] [attr="class","night"] [attr="class","burstmini"]@braig [attr="class","burstmini"]@someone2 [attr="class","burstmini"]000 words [attr="class","burstmini"]notes: This box will expand if you are going to write more, but try to keep it short. "How awkward..." Braig quipped sarcastically, holding his arms up in a mock surrender. A flash of shame crossed his dark heart, not because he was stealing, but because he got caught stealing. Truly, a foolish mistake from the out-of-practice renegade. Braig snapped his eye upwards, watching with sharp interest as the shopkeeper's attention seemed to wander between his patch and his "good" side.
"I was just simply... examining... this little gizmo here, bucko, but since you offered..." Braig cooed as he turned the little silver device in his hands. The little silver engravings seemed to correlate to different phases of the sun and moon, and little intricately lined dials seemed to line up in such a way to predict... the weather?
'It tells the weather?' The sniper thought, pondering whether he truly would have any use for such an object. After all, he still didn't know how to use it. However, the Freeshooter was not one to let an opportunity to go to waste. With a grin and a quick flick of the wrist, the device was gone, having warped it hastily into his pocket. Theft was the sniper's favorite (mis)use of his powers: simply warp the object into his pocket, and no one would ever figure it out until it was too late. Braig wasn't particularly proud of being a professional shoplift, but his 'talent' had provided him with most of his possessions for the last several years.
"This is quite the collection you have here..." Braig said, crawling over the rest of the wares with his piercing yellow eye, oblivious to the shopkeeper's discomfort. Something about their inventory seemed odd to him. Did they come from off-world? Maybe this shopkeeper knew something he didn't...

[attr="class","burst"] [attr="class","whitenight"]❝ Rina had to bite her lip to keep from grinning as the stranger in front of her made sarcastic remarks about letting him keep the item. The man was probably making fun of her with his sarcasm, but she thought it was pretty comical. She got plenty of sardonic remarks from Waltz back at the house, so she was practically in her element with this man. Maybe that’s why she would let him be a thief just this once. It made her laugh. “It’s called a WindWhistle. It’s supposed to be able to sense the moods of the weather gods and tell you how to prepare for the day.” Rina dug around in her pocket before presenting her own item. “It always seems to work got me.” While speaking to the man, he seemed to continue to look over the remaining items on her table. You’re not going to take off with my whole table are you…jeez. He seemed to be genuinely interested in what she had available though. She smiled up at him. “Only one freebie allowed. You’ll have to buy the next one.” She idly picked up one of her items to look at it. “My name’s Rina. I’m a merchant if you hadn’t noticed. I usually travel around to different worlds to do my business. I wanted to stay home today.” She began to pack things up again. “I do a lot of trading to get items from other places. The people here like exotic things, ya know? But some of this is local, like what you have. My roommate made that. He makes stuff imbued with magic and trinkets. Things like that.” Rina finished her packing and slung her bag over her shoulder, some of the things clinking inside of it. “Are you looking for anything specific?” | [attr="class","white"] [attr="class","night"] [attr="class","burstmini"]@braig [attr="class","burstmini"]@someone2 [attr="class","burstmini"]301 words [attr="class","burstmini"]notes: "He better not steal anything else from me. "A 'windwhistle' huh?" Braig mused, mentally comparing his newfound trinket with the one belonging to the shopkeeper. They were identical, save for small differences in the intricate carvings. It seems that both whistles had been handmade, seemingly by someone with an expert's touch. The sniper had no idea what 'weather gods' the other had been referring to, but from the care taken in the whistle's craftsmanship, he inferred that they had to have been pretty important. He left his own version of this odd trinket secure in his pocket. Very rarely had weather ever been a concern to him, but it could definitely come in handy one day.
Braig looked back up, meeting Rina's eyes. He tilted his head slightly to the right, as if all of this was little more than an everyday walk in the park. If she had connections off world, than maybe she would prove to be a vital player after all.
"Name's Braig. I'm a... gunman... of sorts," The sniper explained, taking care to leave out the whole 'renegade and former royal guard' part. Though to the locals, his faded uniform was a dead giveaway. Surely, to the some of the older citizens, this must have looked like a bust of some kind. "Relax, kid, I'm not here to loot your stall. As if!
"You know, trading between worlds can be a pretty risky business. Plenty of awful things waiting in the in-between." Braig started, eye lazily browsing over his surroundings. He knew better than anyone that the void between worlds was crawling with everything from heartless to nobodies to rouges trying to make a quick buck. Thankfully, he could step between worlds easier than most people could walk. "If you can make it worth my while, I could make sure everything goes smoothly."
You know, kid, like a hired gun. A soldier of fortune." Braig proposed, sticking his hands in the pockets of his uniform jacket. He could only hope that this rather awkward introduction hadn't burned too many bridges with this mysterious shopkeeper.

[attr="class","burst"] [attr="class","whitenight"] ❝ Rina listened to the man’s ( He said his name was Braig?) proposition. She couldn’t help the amused smile that spread out over her face. Was he serious? Was he seriously asking her to hire him as a “solider of fortune”? It was almost laughable. Rina had been handling herself just fine up until now. She had taken Waltz with her every now and then but not for security. Just for companionship on the longer trips. She didn’t need any extra help. Or did she…?
Rina thought it over for a moment. Extra security was never a bad thing. There was always the chance that Rina would run into bigger trouble than she could handle. Hmm…alright then.
“Make it worth you while, eh? What exactly are you looking for? I’m just a…humble merchant, ya know.” That was probably a half truth. Rina was no Scrooge McDuck, but she was sitting on a nice little nest egg. Years of hard working and maybe a little bit of blackmail had made Rina financially comfortable. She could most likely give this man anything he wanted.

Braig grinned with a sly, crawling smile that looked almost unnatural on his face. The sniper didn't have anything resembling a plan. No goals, no silver-tongued motives... Had he really lost his touch now that he was on his own? He would have scolded himself for losing sight of the end-game, but this little deal of theirs was just what he needed to turn the tables back in his favor.
"I'll make you a deal you can't refuse, kid." Braig purred, yellow eyes narrowing as he spoke. A wave of a hand brought two sniper nobodies to his side, the strange silver creatures looking up at their master with blank faces. "These two little guys will make sure your 'shipments' make it to their destination, get rid of anything you can't handle..."
The twin nobodies turned their attention to their potential buyer, seemingly rather unimpressed with the idea that they were being traded away. It didn't matter to the Freeshooter, though. The snipers were his eyes and ears, and had many of the same abilities that he himself had. Just the two of them had more than enough firepower to handle the most common kinds of ruffians, and whatever information they could bring back about the far-off worlds would certainly be valuable to the gunman in the future.
"... An' all I ask for in return is a copy of your ship's starchart. It's been a while since I've been off-world and I imagine things have changed, right kiddo?" Braig offered, gesturing with one hand while the other remained tucked in his pocket. He knew he could have simply asked for some cold-hard cash, but the sniper needed to reestablish his connections to the other worlds if he was going to make his own fortune out here. The Corridors of Darkness were useless if the user didn't know where they were going, and being able to slip between worlds again would be much more valuable than a sack of coin in the long run.

[attr="class","burst"] [attr="class","whitenight"] ❝ Okaaaay. He gives me the creeps. Just a little.
Rina listened to the eye-patched man lay out his proposition. It was weird. He was probably up to something. Even in a place crawling with people willing to help each other out, no one ever volunteered to go between worlds. It just wasn’t what they did here. But Braig wasn’t offering up himself, now was he?
The man had summoned forth two of his minions and Rina made her decision right there. Nope, nope, nope. She had heard stories about these things. Nobodies, right? She didn’t want something like that on her ship with her. For starters, it made her outnumbered. And she also didn’t like feeling as if she were being spied on. She’d much rather have Braig on her ship instead…oh. Well.
She rested her hand on her hip, acting like she was thinking about his offer. Her mind was already made up though. “Yeah. You’re right. All you want are my starcharts?” Oh yeah. This one is up to something. Rina walked around her stall and up to the man, peering up into his face. This man was dangerous. Now that she was this close she could feel the darkness radiating from him. She knew better than to be doing this. Waltz would probably scold her into oblivion if he knew that she was about to offer him a place on her ship. But…the darkness. To be that close to someone who harbored it heavier than she did…it peaked her curiosity. Did his darkness come from the same place that hers did?
“Why send your…friends? You are more than welcome to come with me. I could teach you how to make your own starcharts. And you could teach me how to… pick pocket.” She said that last part in a joking tone, but a part of her wasn’t joking. Who was this guy?
