This is all your fault, Rina. You caused every bit of this!
No! I didn't cause this!
Yes! This is exactly you! All of this. This is why you were born, why you were created. To. Bring. Them. Down.
No! You're lying! I didn't...I didn't do this...?
You did. Embrace it. Welcome to the Darkness.
"No. No! NO!"
Rina woke up from her nightmare with a distressed shout. Her heart was beating so hard that it was a wonder that it had not beat straight out of her chest. The young woman was so frightened that she was having trouble breathing and the fact that she could still hear the echoes of the whispers in her ears wasn't helping.
Rina glanced at the alarm clock by her bed. It read 4:45. Dammit...why does this keep happening? This nightmare marked the 4th one she had had this week. Each one was worse than the last, the Darkness becoming more oppressive, the fear becoming more real. It was like the Darkness was coming for her in her dreams. It wasn't just her dreams it was affecting though. Her awake life was being ruined by these nightmares as well. She was losing sleep, barely eating, and wasn't working on her projects. These dreams were starting to consume her.
The longer Rina laid in the bed, the more the walls felt like they were closing in. She had drawn her curtains closed the night before so no outside light was coming in and the room was pitch black. I can't do this! I have to get out of here! Without even putting on proper clothes or shoes Rina ran out of her bedroom and down the stairs to her front door. Without hesitation Rina grabbed her trademark leather jacket and ran out the door and through the residential area of Radiant Garden. The moon was nice and full in the sky and gave the girl enough light to run through the town and towards the outskirts. She sprinted without stopping until she arrived at her usual haunt. The Dark Depths. With Villain's Vale looming in the distance, Rina collapsed to the cold stone beneath her and took deep heaving breaths trying to regain her composure. She hadn't ran like that in a long time. She wasn't in the business of running for her life anymore.
As her body calmed down from her sprint she went to take a seat at the edge of the cliff. Rina glanced down into what looked like a black hole swirling below her. It was an unnerving site even though she knew it was just blue stone at the bottom of a valley. Her eyes moved upward from the bottom and landed on the ruins of Villain's Vale. Just the site of it made her body shake with chills and it made her feel uneasy. Yet she was drawn to it. She could almost see the potential that the castle could have as a stronghold and how with a little bit of TLC it could be the perfect home for her and some other mercen- Rina shook her head vigorously as if to shake those notions out of her mind.
"Freaking hell, Starrina. Stop it with those thoughts."
What's gotten into me?

Perhaps you can sense that you are attempting to run from your very nature, sweet girl. Your heart longs for what resonates with it.
Much like the voice in the girl’s nightmares that taunted her what could only be assumed nightly, a voice came to her in the night, clear as a bell and eerie as a subconscious dwelling on guilt or jealousy. It was almost as though the decrepit building looming in the distance was speaking out to her, scolding and endearing at the same time in an almost maternal approach. As if confirming suspicion the stars in the blackened sky seemed to waver as if they’d really only been dots of white paint on black canvas all along, easily urged away with a bit of frigid water. The looming vale only seemed to become more vast more abyssal the way things just seemed to enlarge in nightmares.
A feeling of dread oozed over the breeze mingling in a courtship with uncertainty and fear. Dark magic was afoot and so very within its element, so at home with its chaos. This frightened mouse had been hiding in the shadows of the Vale for some time now. Maleficent sensed her even before she came that night because her presence, her longing to reach for this place like the small gripping outstretched fingers of a child lingered here. Her curiosity would seal the very fate that her heart cried out for. It knew its own darkness. It knew very well what the girl truly wanted. Once the girl arrived the dark fairy could sense what sort of potential looked upon the looming towers. A mouse now perhaps, but with the help of the darkness her heart cried out for, gravitated toward? She’d be a lion yet.
Maleficent waited in the ruins of her old council room, a grin raising the corners of her painted lips.

Rina's heart froze into a block of ice and fell into the pit of her stomach. Goosebumps erupted all over her body. A voice that was soft and smooth like silk had appeared from nowhere and drifted into Rina's mind. Her eyes darted all around her, trying to find the body that belonged to the voice. But there was not one to be seen. Rina's eyes rested back on Villain's Vale and that's when she felt it. A tug from deep within her body. One might even say it was a tug coming from her soul and it was pulling her towards the decrepit castle. With a startled gasp Rina pushed herself back and away from the edge of the cliff. She stood up and ran to the middle of the Depths, still looking all around her.
"Who...who are you?! What do you want from me?!", Rina yelled into the night. Her scared voiced reverberated against the blue walls. She had the feeling that eyes were watching her and it unnerved her that she couldn't see them. Rina held out her shaking hands and closed her eyes for a moment. She focused her energy into her palms and her silver daggers appeared from sparkling light.
"Come out! Stop hiding and face me!" Rina's eyes once again landed on the Vale. Surely not...
Rina could sense a Dark force emanating from the Vale. She had heard stories of the woman who had lived there before. An evil fairy who had brought destruction to so many. She had been defeated times before, but always found a way back. Had she found a way back to her former home? What was her name? She had heard it before. Malevolence? Malevolent? No...
Rina continued to take tiny steps back, inching farther and farther away from Villain's Vale. Oh!
"Maleficent...?"

The dark fairy sat comfortably in the crumbling excuse for a throne, her inky black robes billowing around her like a set of long reaching tentacles. Amusement managed to light up the woman’s face and bring to her already pallid skin an eerie green glow like glow in the dark pain over canvas. Hiding? The very idea was a sad jest indeed. To suggest that she, the mistress of all evil was attempting to remain hidden. Please. It was more the act of moving outward to retrieve the petulant child that was beneath the woman. The young lady’s bout of panic in the shadow of the Villain’s Vale only grew more amusing when she called to the dark fairy by name.
Ahh. You know me then do you? Only the retched details that the foolish rabble may have told I would imagine.
Though the words themselves that came through and brushed over the girls mind may not have been very nice, the tone was positively enchanting like the comforting purr of the family cat.
I’ve no reason to hide. You may face me if you wish, my dear. I can feel it in your heart, your longing for a place, a purpose. It isn’t nearly as difficult as you are making it, you know.
A green ball of magical energy appeared in the ravine. No face or entity made itself known aside from this, but it glowed with a life that was as dark as death and sickly as plague.
Come child. You’ll find that the castle isn’t nearly as terrifying as you might try to tell yourself it would be. In fact. I think you’ll find it rather comfortable.

[attr="class","burst"] [attr="class","whitenight"]❝ Rina took in a deep, shuddering breath as the bottom of the ravine turned into a toxic shade of green. The frightened girl could feel that Maleficent's looming presence was having an effect on her. Rina felt that feeling in her soul again, the tugging. Like something deep inside of her was begging Rina to go to the Vale.
Come on Starrina...You know what you need to do. What you are supposed to do...
Rina shivered at the voice she heard in her head. A feeling of dread swept over her as she realized that that was her own voice she was hearing. The Darkness that she always fought inside of her, the dark presence that was always lurking somewhere in her heart, was trying to goad her into doing what it wanted. No! Stop! Please go away! But almost like an outside force (or was it an inside force?) was controlling her, Rina had found herself at the edge of the cliff. The girl stared down into the ravine, her eyes glued to the swirling ocean of green before her. All you have to do is jump…
As Rina fell down through the air with her eyes squeezed shut, she only had one thought. What have I done…? Rina fell for minutes or for hours. Rina didn’t know. But when she finally opened her eyes, she was standing safely at the bottom of the ravine. The green mist still floated all around her, but Rina could plainly see Villain’s Vale. It was beckoning her to come inside. She started the trek uphill to the ruins of the castle. | [attr="class","white"] [attr="class","night"] [attr="class","burstmini"]@maleficent [attr="class","burstmini"]269 words [attr="class","burstmini"]notes: Ahhh! Into the ravine would be an intriguing trip all on its own. The fall would become more leveled out, slower, almost painfully slow. Like floating into water without so much as moment to struggle to breathe. The air would be cooler here, the tendrils of magic and the cool comforting darkness reaching to accept the falling ward until her feet would touch solidity, definite as crystal and infinite as ice over ocean water a murky abyss below or above. Direction for the moment would seem not to apply any longer save for one very obvious motion. That way.
That way was clear and it was so well defined. Before the girl hovered a green ball of energy that was enticing and frightening in its own way like a wise crone beckoning with one long but feeble finger or a wolf’s hollowed eyes as crisp as freezing as the very tundra one might die in to stare at. Both reapers. Both enticing and fresh promises. That green orb bounced along playfully all around the two of them was nothing. There simply was nothing. Nothing but that energy bouncing beckoning, inviting just out of reach. So close. Just a few more steps.
Reach my dear. Go on.
The silky maternal voice beckoned on, the ball of light illuminating slightly brighter with each spoken syllable. Any footstep toward that green light was caught and cradled on that bed of crystalline like so many stepping stones in a pitch black garden only to disappear entirely on a glance backward. The ravine was still the ravine of course, but the way into Villain’s Vale had been right in the depths of the girl’s heart all along. Maleficent with a wicked grin on her lips only needed to continue to point out the way. Up into the mountain through a small fissure all of it hidden in darkness would lead the girl should she only follow into the throne room where the inviting maternal voice waited.

[attr="class","burst"] [attr="class","whitenight"]❝ Rina sucked in a shuddering breath. That voice…I must listen to this voice. Do as she says… Rina reached out to the floating orb. Even though it looked like a ball of green fire, it was cool as ice to the touch. When her shaking fingers enveloped it, the orb disappeared into her. Rina could feel it traveling through her body and right into her mind. Then it was like someone else had taken control of her. Looking back at this moment, Rina would say that someone else had taken control long before this moment. But this felt like someone had hijacked her body and was taking it where it wanted to go. Where Rina needed to go.
She made the hard trek up the stony hill and up to the castle doors. Rina knew exactly which one was unlocked and walked into the dilapidated Vale. It was cold. Much colder than it was outside. Frost adorned some parts of the walls and Rina could see her breath in front of her. The only light and sources of warmth were torches spaced evenly apart all down the walls. As Rina walked down the hall the stench of Darkness grew more and more strong. She could feel her stomach churning at the smell or maybe because it was of the guilt that was eating her alive. She wasn’t sure anymore. But it was too late now. Rina had reached a door at the end of the hallway and she knew what was behind it. Or more like who was behind it. Before she could stop herself Rina pushed open the door and stepped inside.
