| Look for the Light in the Darkness | A small grey creature with dark, almost black stripes padded along the familiar cobblestone path of Traverse Town. Hanging from its neck was a pouch stitched with the symbolic image of a Wayfinder and tied around its neck a small cap. They waddled their way to a Moogle weighed down by an overstuffed mailbag, the pink flyer barely keeping afloat with its cargo. " Oh thanks for waiting!" The cat-like Dream spoke as it handed a pack of missives to the Moogle. " Of course, kupo! Us mailmoogles have our pride, you know, especially after the Valentine's debacle." The fae noted. The squint-eyed creature smiled and bowed deeply. " Please make sure my letters get to everyone. I don't know how much longer I can do this on my own." They turned back to look towards the streets. Unlike the usual busy streets of Traverse Town which would beholden at such an hour: instead one would find the slowly dismantling epitaph of a world's dream crumbling to pieces with shadow like figures mindlessly meandering, looking for a way out. While such meant nothing for a world awoken: for the dreams still held by these worlds it meant that their reality was unraveling. From the dissipating dreams would wake nightmares that could not be contained. Whenever the people of Traverse Town slept they would be haunted by fiends that seemed so real some would wake with claw marks or clumps of fur gripped in their hands. Those too weak to protect their hearts were consumed by such a darkness they would not wake. The sickness was spreading faster than the Dream could fend off on his own. So to as many dreamers as he could he would send a call for help: a missive to be delivered across realms by the Mailmoogles. They would read as followed: Dear Dreamers,
I will be waiting for you at the start. Please meet me at the gates of Traverse Town. I need your help. The Nightmares are fighting to break free of your dreams and I alone can no longer stop them. Day by day they pull others into our world creating a Nightmare where there should only be dreams. I will be waiting.
-Chirithy. The letters would be sent to everyone's dreams.... but would they answer?

Dreams, a place where anything that can be imagined, can exist. For Nick, this dream was quite a unique one, it wasn't anything wild or strange, like his usual ones, but rather peaceful. Or at least that's what it seemed like for now. In this one, Nick was sitting with his mother, sipping a cup of hot tea, while sitting on a comfortable picnic blanket. The perfect dream for him. He also had his Dark Gauntlet on in his dream.
"Mother, may I have a little more tea?" He asked her.
"Of course, my son," She replied to him. As Daria poured him some more tea in his tea cup, he saw an unknown creature approach him with a letter. He didn't know who this creature is, but they seemed friendly. He gently took the letter, and opened it up. He read the letter from top to bottom, and he grew quite concerned.
"Sounds like trouble might be brewing, I should go help, maybe I can be a bit of help," said Nick as he showed his mother the letter while she sipped some tea, she then handed the letter back to him, as he stuffed it back into the left pocket of his jeans.
"Please be careful... I'd hate to see you get injured," Daria said to him. She watched as her son took one last sip of his tea, then stood up and looked up at the sky.
"No worries, I'll make sure to come back," He said to his mother, reassuring her that he'd be alright.
"It seems that I'll need to meet at the gates of Traverse Town. I'll certainly be there, no doubt about it." Nick thought to himself as he stared up at the blue sky in his dream. He had taken on an important task, even though he didn't know what he was entirely in store for, but it sounded like quite an adventure.

Rina was no stranger to nightmares. For as long as she could remember her dreams had been filled with demons from the deep shadows with yellow eyes and sharp teeth. She would run from them and try to hide. Sometimes they would leave her alone if they couldn't find her. Most nights she was tormented by them. As she became older the demons became less, but were replaced by bad memories haunting her and forcing her to relive the worst moments of her life. She preferred the demons because that way she wouldn't have to look at the smiles of the people who had betrayed her or the eyes of the ones she had betrayed.
This dream was different. This one felt too real. She was too aware, too suspicious.
Too happy.
Rina continued to walk down the stone path of the Ravine Trail, half expecting a creature to come crawling out of the gorge and drag her down into the Depths. Before walking through the crystal adorned fissure she chanced a look behind her shoulder. There was nothing there of course but she still couldn't shake the feeling that someone...something was watching her. Shaking her head, Rina continued through the sparkling chasm before coming to the flat plain ahead.
In the real world The Great Maw was a large circular shaped crevasse made of the same blue and purple stone that made of most of Radiant Garden. In Rina's dream world it was mostly the same except for a few details. The blue stone underneath Rina's feet had been overtaken by a field of enormous sunflowers and there was a small blanket laying in the middle of it all.
Whenever Rina needed to have a moment to herself and felt strong enough to flee the shadows she would often find herself in the middle of this field, the flowers swaying above her in the breeze. Kicking off her boots and ditching her jacket, Rina laid back into the blanket enjoying the moment of solace.
That was almost immediately interrupted by a "Kupo?".
Rina shot up, grabbing her nearby boot for protection. "W-what...the hell?! A mailmoogle?!" Rina's eyes darted back and forth almost to make sure she was still asleep before looking behind the moogle. Other than creatures from the dark she never had visitors, but she could tell that this was becoming something more than a dream. Something was up. "I was being followed! Can I... can i help you?"
The moogle dropped a letter into her hands before unceremoniously drifting away. "Oh! Thank you...?" she called after the mailmoogle but she wasn't sure if he had heard or not. With a sigh Rina glanced at the envelope before opening it to read the contents.
------------------------------------------------ Rina walked slowly back towards her home. She was reading and rereading the letter in her hands. The part that she kept reading the most was the bit about the Nightmares fighting to break free of dreams. Who's dreams? Everyone's? Her's? That made her shudder. She didn't need her Nightmares breaking free for anyone else to see. Rina began to walk faster.
There was work to be done.

As a Mi'qote, sleeping was on the things he liked most. He had always taken a nice nap in the shade after a long day of work, when he was still at home. That habit had stayed with him even to his current age and he always searched for a nice place he could mark as 'perfect napping-spot'. Even though he had seen many bad things, he was usually not having many nightmares.
Well, with all that stress he had been going through the months before he left his home, he could imagine his mind having problems keeping up and giving him a few unpleasant dreams to process all of that. But the dreams he head been having the last few days had been... disturbing. He had decided to take a break of a few days in Traverse Town and everything had seemed normal at first. However, that soon changed after one day of staying there. He had heard that an odd sickness seemed to spread in the town and people were having odd nightmares, some not waking up from their sleep anymore. Eh, rumors and conspiracy theories were not his thing, so he decided to watch the whole thing for a few more days. Bad decision.. The night on the second day of his stay was horrible.
Hell. No.
The dream he had that night was like a ride through hell and those creatures that haunted him in that one were something he had never seen before. He managed to wake up, but couldn't fall asleep again after that one, so he had decided to take a look at the strange rumor one more time. That night, many people had strangely fallen ill. Those that didn't, described what they saw in their dreams and it was way to similar to what he had experienced.
Shortly after, a moggle suddenly fluttered in through the window, handing him a letter.
“Eh, thanks?”
He opened the cover and started reading. Huh, what a coincidence. He really had a thing for stumbling into trouble. The man immediately packed all his stuff, gave his gun one good clean and left to meet this Chririthy at the gates.

I WANT TO LINE THE PIECES UP... YOURS, AND MINE. ♥ Roxas was no stranger to dreams that walked the line of fantasy and reality. They had come frequently in the Organization; visions of a boy in red that were always accompanied by staggering feelings of deja-vu and left him to wake in a cold sweat, more exhausted than he had been when he'd gone to bed. So when he found himself sitting at the clock tower by himself in a world that was eerily still and silent, ice cream in hand, he knew that something was off... the world around him felt too hazy to be quite real, yet too solid and lucid to be completely a dream. Eerie, but all too familiar...Roxas looked down at his hands. They were definitely his hands, adorned with his checkerboard bracelet and matching rings, rather than puffy buckled gloves. A strange mixture of relief and confusion. So what was he doing here? He took a bite of ice cream as he pondered. At least it tasted real. Roxas would be the last one in any world to turn down free ice cream, even suspicious dream ice cream.Suddenly he started and nearly lost balance as something leapt up onto the ledge beside him. "You're—"Round, soft, and cream-colored, though this one wasn't wearing any sort of cloak, that big red nose was unmistakable. "A moogle?" It had been forever since he'd seen one of those! He felt a tinge of bittersweet nostalgia, and almost wish he had some munny on him, just for fun. It was then he noticed the little creature digging about in its little mailbag, before it withdrew a letter and presented it to him.
"For me?" Roxas took the letter hesitantly, but the moogle seemed confident that it had the correct address. He opened it, his brow furrowing as he read the contents. "Huh... sounds serious," he muttered, only then looking back up at the mail carrier. "Um, thank you. I'll definitely be there,"
Seeming satisfied, the moogle pushed off into the air again, bobbing lazily as it flew. Roxas knew it was time for him to take leave, as well, and he stood, tucking the letter into his pocket. It looked like he'd be paying a visit to Traverse Town.

Prologue In-between the topiary of lux-shaped bushes, a young man of brown buttermilk skin rests on a bed of grass. He was taking a well-earned nap after a productive day, although he had been awake for some time. He found that closed eyes helped him see best with his body, which glistened under the warmth of the light they protected. The light breeze carried the voices of nearby youth, whose playful laughs and banter completed the serene sense of tranquility he enjoyed. Like a crescendo from a melody of memories, the breeze intensified into an exquisite gust inspiring his locks of hair to dance. His frameless spectacles reflected a city of clouds amidst technicolor skies overtaken by an army of storm clouds casting a shadow over his smile.
I’ve been having more nightmares lately…
The young man opened his dark red eyes to a once beautiful park now marred by the absence of his peers. His clothes thrashed about feverishly to the violent gale rushing in from the ocean, which was soon overwhelmed by a shockwave emanating from the opposite direction. The clocktower’s bells were ringing, beckoning him to act. But as he jumped off the ground, he turned to find the waterfront replaced by a battlefield. His fellow comrades, from children to young adults, charged at each other over a barren wasteland enclosed by mountains as dry as the embittered air. Catching sight of a friend, he navigated through the sea of lost souls whilst trying to call their name, but it was as if the word itself had been stolen. He reached over his friend’s shoulder, desperate to meet their eyes… but nothing.
I’ve been alone for so long; I’ve forgotten their faces...
His friend’s visage, devoid of any features, was like a blank canvas which was soon painted black with yellow beady eyes that struck terror in his heart. He instinctively stepped back from the creature, when he noticed an eerie silence compelling him to glance at his surroundings. All his comrades had stopped on their tracks and turned towards him, each sharing the face of darkness. Determined to survive, the young man extended his arm and called upon Starlight, but his weapon would not spawn. As if on cue, the darkness commenced its march. He ran.
The worlds I’ve visited are a blur...
The barren wasteland morphed as he ran for his life until there was nothing but pitch-black darkness surrounding him. The enemy nowhere in sight and yet, he could feel them, waiting till he was most vulnerable. It was then that he realized he was dealing with a different type of creature, a realization which became apparent when a slew of red eyes disseminated over the dark horizon, and then confirmed when furry purple creatures emerge from the shadows. He had seen their emblems once before from a corrupted Chirithy, Nightmares. He clutched his head and kneeled to scream from the depths of his heart, he just wanted it all to stop. It was then that the very creatures he had fled from in the beginning sprouted from the ground in his defense.
Spend enough time alone, you’ll make friends with anyone…
The heartless and nightmares tore each other limb from limb until they had achieved mutual destruction and he was the last one standing -or so he thought. One nightmare had survived the skirmish, a large and feral feline creature with enormous claws and bat-like wings. Its roar seemed to shake the very fabric of the plane in which they stood. The young man braced himself as it charged at him, but as he closed his eyes, it was gone. He was now descending into an abyss in the bottom of an ocean. The silence brought back the serenity he had lost, but he was still not alone. They were still out there, he could hear them, whispering malefic musings.
“Kupo!”
Medyas wakes up in a cold sweat, breathing heavily as if he had been submerged in water. He hastily scans his surroundings for danger but, as his eyes adjust, they are met with the same blackness that he has grown accustomed to. The lost guardian reflects upon his dream, the Moogle, its letter, wondering whether any of it was real or not. However, his question was promptly answered when a shift in weight revealed a sudden pang on his arm… and a claw mark.
My dreams were an oasis to this darkness, my last sanctuary…

| Look for the Light in the Darkness | At the entrance of Traverse Town the Dreamers would find themselves not amidst the usual hustle and bustle of the hub, but a silent remnant off a shattered nightmare. Chunks of buildings were bitten away and converted into what appeared to be something akin to colorful gummi blocks, but they were shifting, amorphous almost. Areas along the cobblestone streets were also overtaken by these masses. Waddling back and forth was the diminutive figure off a doll-like feline with grey fur and a fluttering cape of sky blue. Around his neck was a satchel that was embroidered with what appeared to be a wayfinder. The folded ear cat would raise his paws to his head and fret.
"Oh my, oh my. I hope they got my letters..." He would plop onto his rump and look into the sky. "Oh Ventus... I'm doing my best." He held out his forearms to flail a bit before he jumped to stand, hearing people arrive. "Oh no!" He hurried off, only to bump into a wall, tumbling he got back to his feet and would hurry down towards the Second District.
It looks like his worry wasn't warranted as it was the very Dreamers he had sent for! Maybe they could catch the cat along the Second District's streets and ask him as there did not appear to be anyone else in this dream world the Dreamers could ask...
In Medyas case the Moogle had a difficult time pushing through his native Darkness, but eventually was able to bring him the missive. He would need to head back into the Nightmares and find the path of Light leading into the Darkness where Chirithy waited for everyone, or fled as seemed to be the case.

♟♟ "Is this the darkness that is within me? Has the power within my heart finally been unlocked? |
Nick arrived at the gates of Traverse Town, wondering where everyone else was. Before he had left, he reminded his parents that he was going out, and that he'd be back eventually. He made sure to describe the letter he was given in his dream, before he left his home. His mother and father understood, and told him to come back safely. "I promise to return," was what he said to them.
"Hmmm, I guess I'm the first to arrive. I'll wait for the others," said Nick as he stood at the front of the gates patiently, dusting himself off a bit. He also glanced at the gauntlet on his right arm, it was still in pretty good condition, since it hadn't been used for a while.

I WANT TO LINE THE PIECES UP... YOURS, AND MINE. ♥ "Man, what happened to this place...?" Roxas felt the hairs on the back of his neck raise as his corridor of darkness closed behind him. A chill creeped down his spine at the deafening silence of the world that once teemed with living, vibrant hearts. He had never been to Traverse Town himself, but a sleeping memory in the back of his mind told him that this was wrong.Well, nothing to do but get to the bottom of it. He took off towards the front gates at a near jog, his pace quickening further when he noticed a figure standing at the mouth of the town. The thought that the stranger might have been less than friendly didn't cross his mind until it was far too late not to be seen, so he gave a mental shrug before making a greeting. "Hey!" he waved, stopping short before the gate. "Did you get a letter from a Moogle, too?" He looked friendly enough. Roxas blinked at the odd-looking glove on his arm, wondering if it was a weapon or some kind of armor. "I'm Roxas. What's your name?"

In the real world Rina sat cross legged in the middle of her living room floor. She had pushed her coffee table to the side so she could have plenty of room. A smile fire was crackling in the hearth and that, along with a few thick white candles, was the only light that shone. The rest of the house was dark. A stick of soft smelling incense was wafting its scent nearby and after taking a sip of the warm tea that she had sitting beside her, Rina took a deep breath and closed her eyes.
The woman's goal was to mediate until she had reached a state similar to how she had been when she had received her letter. However, she wanted to avoid actually going to sleep if possible. Something about all this still didn't sit well within Rina and she wanted to have a quick way out of the dream world if needed. A short while and several deep breaths later Rina found herself still sitting, but now in a different spot. A quite familiar spot. Her hand slowly glided along the cold stone that made up the walkway through the 2nd District of Twilight Town. Standing up, Rina brushed off her legs and spun slowly around to take in the sights.
Rina had appeared smack dab in the middle of the district, and she had expected to be surrounded by the hotel and nearby shops. That's not what was there though. Most of the infrastructure of town was gone, and has been replaced with what looked like gummi blocks. Rina was very confused. What had happened to this place?
Rina took off and up towards what was left of the stairs and headed towards the First District. There was always people there when you needed them to be. At the top of the stairs Rina sighed forlornly as she took in the damaged parts of the town. She spun around in a slow circle, and that's when she saw something...different. A small cat-like creature that was running quickly into her direction. Rina was going to make an assumption.
"H-hey! Um...hi. I'm Rina. Did you send me a letter?"

| Look for the Light in the Darkness | The small cat looked up to the woman, his paws resting in front of his white-grey belly.
"Oh!" He chirped. "Oh, oh!" He jumped. "Did you get one of my letters?" He wondered where the others were? He sent out so many. Bowing his head he would not. "Yes, yes! I am Chitrithy! I'm the one that called for help. Are you a Dreamer? It seems there are Nightmares running amok and I am having trouble soothing them on my own. These aren't dreams I've ever seen before and I'm worried we are running out of time." He moved to climb onto the half wall at the top of the steps so he could better be seen by Rina.
His movements were stiff and sloppy as if he wasn't used to moving around like this. Once ontop he was able to see the colorful carnage that had been wrought on the dream state of the District. His soft eyes frowned as his head fell forward. He seemed solemn at the state of things. He had hoped it had not gone this far, but... Looking around he could not see any other dreamers...
"Well, you see -- there is a Nightmare that has been going District to District making it quite difficult for people to wake up from their sleep because they keep eating their dreams, leaving behind Nightmares in its wake. Not just the dreams, but the buildings' dreams too!" He pointed, the corrupted buildings with sections replaced with colorful springy shapes that did indeed seem reminiscent of Gummi blocks!
As for Roxas and Nick it seemed they weren't alone! Small colorful balls of fluff would move to surround them. They seemed aggressive: bleating and scraping their tiny feet against the ground. If they didn't get going it looked as if they would be attacked by the multi-colored puff balls!

♟♟ "Is this the darkness that is within me? Has the power within my heart finally been unlocked? |
Nick looked at the individual that was speaking to him, he had never seen anyone like him before. Of course, this is what he thought of anyone he hasn't seen around this town. and said "Yeah, I got a letter from some creature while I was in a dream. My name is Nick Laruzo, a pleasure to meet you. But, you can call me Nick," as he went to shake his hand with his right hand, which was equipped with his Dark Gauntlet. Just as he was about to shake the hand of the individual in front of him, he saw some unknown creatures.
Upon seeing them, Nick got into a defensive stance. Getting ready to use his power at any time. He was confused, he'd never seen these kind of creatures before, and they were different from the usual heartless that he had fought before.
"These creatures... what are they?" He asked Roxas. "I feel like we should either fight them, or perhaps retreat."

I WANT TO LINE THE PIECES UP... YOURS, AND MINE. ♥ "Woah!" Roxas started suddenly as the creatures seemed to appear of of nowhere. They certainly didn't look like any Heartless or Nobodies he'd ever seen. Reflexively he crouched into his combat stance, Oathkeeper in his hand before he could think twice, but then he hesitated. "I have no idea," he answered Nick, trying with difficulty to keep his eyes on all of the bouncing puffballs. "But they're so small... I almost don't want to fight them," he gave a weak shrug. Could these really be the Nightmares the letter mentioned? "Maybe we should go further in. If they follow and attack, we can take them out, but there might be other people who got letters waiting for us in town," Roxas suggested. "We might even find someone who can tell us exactly what's going on here. Sound like a plan?"

Chronos was shaken from his dream before he could continue his quest with Chirithy. Poor lad.
Talking about poor lads: There actually are people that don't dream. And there are people that SHOULD NOT dream. Zaymus was one of those people. Having lost your heart should also take your ability to need anything a normal human needs. Things like sunlight, water, food.. sleep? Zaymus had been certain his new life would grant him the blessing of not having to worry about sleep anymore. That was correct in theory, but he had messed around with a special heartless type and got hit by a good portion of sleeping-magic.
Seems however he must have slipped through something with that spell and now he was stuck in what seemed to be a dream? He had pinched himself, punched himself, bitten his arm, NOTHING WORKS. He was laying on a roof on his back, letting his head hang from the it, looking at the world from upside down, like he was searching for something by trying a different view of all of this DISGUSTING colorful creatures.
“Little brother, where are you?”, he seemed to whine, putting on a fake sad face. He noticed something interesting though as he watched his surroundings in his dream. A moogle had flown by and oh.. it dropped something. Didn't seem to notice so finder is keeper. He smirked, snatching the paper out of the air and narrowed his eyes at the writing. “Nightmares breaking free, eh?”, he would repeat one of the written sentences, his smirk turning devilish. “Well, what a joy. I wouldn't someone to ruin this now, would I?”
He put the paper in his pocket, eyeing his surroundings and deciding to check out this district the letter had been talking about. He was not disappointed, as he found a group of people there. And those puffballs where also everywhere. If those were people dreaming like him, he would surely mess up their little mission. Maybe even get some dinner..
He sat down on his roof, watching how one of the boys drew a interesting weapon. Oddly enough, something inside his mind immediately went crazy seeing that weapon. Like it was something to be feared. “OOOII!!!”, he screamed down at the kids. “Would you put that thing away? You are going to hurt these little nuggets! Would be a shame if they DIE.”

Nick looked at Roxas and agreed with a single nod. He said to him in reply "Sure, it sounds like a good plan. let's retreat for now. But, if they attack us first... then we fight back." as he heard some voice calling out to him and Roxas, and looked in the direction of the said voice. He shouted to him "Oh, hey there!" He didn't actually expect to see anyone else of as of this far, but he wouldn't be surprised if there was many others out here, surrounded by these creatures. [break]

The only question on Nick's mind in particular was where did these creatures come from? They were different Heartless from the one's he had fought before when he was searching for his parents who had disappeared a long time ago, and who were now back home safe and sound. But for now, he didn't have the time to pondering that, for it was important for him and the individual that he met today to retreat.
