Family/Friends:
Grimoire Valentine - Vincent's father, and former Scientist over Doctor Lucrecia Crescent. Currently Unknown how close the two truly were, though it can be assumed they were at the very least on good terms.
Lucrecia Crescent - Former Lover. He became infatuated with her during an assignment to the Nibelheim sector for guard duty. Though she distanced herself from him after he discovered her connection to his father, he never resented her, instead continuing to wish only the best for her. Even now those wishes resonate in his thoughts.
Veld/Verdot - Once a close ally during Vincent's days as a turk, he very briefly assisted Veld in searching for a support materia located within the Shinra manor. It can be presumed that there is no ill will between the two, as Vincent shows no resentment towards the Turks.
Cloud and friends - Strangely, despite Vincent being such a loner, Cloud and his friends have actually proven to Vincent both through their actions and words that perhaps having friends is a good thing. He considers them close allies, even if he would never admit such a thing.
Shelke - He views her positively as something of a friend. He sees some living reminders of Lucrecia within her through their personalities. Though he doesn't view her in quite the same way as Doctor Crescent, he would still choose to help her given the choice.
Yuffie - That girl is annoying.
Red XIII/Nanaki - Perhaps the strangest friendship among all those he has bonded with. It was similarity that brought the two together, and it was experience that gave Vincent the ability to ease Nanaki's fears, and truly become someone the warrior beast could call a friend.
Personality:
"Vincent!"
"Why such a puzzled look? You didn't want me to come along?"
"No, it's just that you're always so cold... I thought that you didn't care."
"Cold? Hrmmm...I guess that's just how I am, sorry." - Vincent speaking with Cloud
Vincent is, put simply...A stockpile of regrets and emotional scars given human form. His past mistakes can often come to haunt him, those mistakes of which he refers to as his "Sins". Whenever he makes serious mistakes, he will go to extreme lengths to make amends for them. His years of sleeping in a dark catacomb have left him with a cold, detached personality - Which to others can often seem as though he is uncaring and distant. This view only made worse by his vague and cryptic way of speaking at times.
However, there are positives to his personality, despite his insistence that he is a loner, he still shows compassion for others, and would never allow harm to come to an innocent, given the chance to stop it. In truth, no matter how much he may deny it, he cares for his friends, and for the innocent people of the world. This shapes him, it redeems him from the brooding nature that sits at the forefront of who Vincent Valentine is. For anyone who looks deeper into the cold shell of a former man, they may well be able to see the true Vincent shine through.
History:
Many years prior to the Planetary Crisis, and the heroes' battle with Sephiroth, Vincent worked within the Shinra Electric Power Company. He was sent on an important assignment: He would head guard duty over a new research project located in Nibelheim. It was during his time here that he met two people irreversibly tied to his own fate - Doctor Lucrecia Crescent, and Doctor Hojo. Though his relations with Hojo were tense at best even from the beginning, given the general stance on Human experimentation amongst the Turks, and especially from himself. It was Lucrecia that took most of his thoughts during this time. He quickly fell for her over his time overseeing the Jenova Project.
The closer the two grew together, the more Hojo despised them both. Though it seems inevitable that such things would fall apart. For despite their close bonds, Vincent eventually found out about Lucrecia's connection to his father, Grimoire Valentine. Out of fear, or perhaps guilt, she distanced herself from him, and instead chose to pursue a relationship with Doctor Hojo. Though he couldn't deny the sting of pain within his heart, he accepted it. "If she is happy, then it's okay." was what he continued to tell himself, never once resenting her choices despite it all.
A lot of time passed afterwards, and even when Lucrecia became pregnant, he still supported her, and still continued his job as was expected of him. Though ever the schemer, Hojo used the unborn child for experimentation. Vincent began to step out of line, finally being pushed too far as he witnessed Lucrecia becoming more and more ill from the jenova cells. It all came to a boiling point when he had enough, and confronted Hojo. What followed was a heated argument, which ended with Hojo fatally wounding Vincent. On the brink of death, Vincent would be denied an ending - Instead being used as another of Hojo's unwilling test subjects. He was made stronger, more powerful, more beast-like... ... But none of this mattered, as due to the wound in his chest, he remained in a comatose state.
If it had not been for Lucrecia, he would have remained like this forever. Still holding a special bond with him despite all that happened, she attempted to revive him, finally with no other options, she infused the being known as "Chaos" within his body. A move that would have only killed any other person, but due to Hojo's experiments, he was miraculously able to survive and fuse with Chaos. Though despite this, it did little to bring him back to the man he once was. Chaos ran wild within it's containment, taking over Vincent entirely. It would continue to helplessly thrash about until Lucrecia placed Proto-materia within his body - Neutralizing Chaos for the time being.
With both Hojo's experiments already greatly strengthening his body, and now the infusion of Chaos, Vincent had become more powerful in every way - Immortal, even. ... But it wasn't without a price. He had been changed into a beast. Four uncontrollable spirits slept within him now, all fighting for control. He finally awoke from his comatose state, transformed into the Galian beast. - This only served to send him into a mad panic... He broke free from his restraints, going berserk across the lab.
A short time later, once he had finally returned to a "human" form...It all sunk in - All that he had been unable to stop; his own beastial changes, Lucrecia's trauma, Hojo's victory... He saw himself as responsible for it all, his "sins" in a way. Unable to face not having stopped the Jenova Project and all that it set in motion, he forced punishment upon himself to "atone"...He locked himself within a catacomb in the basement of the Shinra manor, and placing himself within a coffin - Went into a long sleep.
---
Before Crisis:
"There is a lot I want to ask you about..."
"It doesn't look like we have time to talk." - Vincent and Verdot having a conversation for the first time in years.
Twenty long years. Twenty years he would sleep, reliving his past mistakes over and over, all until he was awoken by Veld, and one of the new recruits amongst the Turks. Recognizing his former ally, and said ally's need for a support materia...He set aside his punishment for only a moment, assisting them in battle. Though it was not long before he parted ways with them, refusing to leave despite their protests, and once again returned to his imprisonment and sleep, ever to return to the sins of the past as always.
---
Sephiroth Crisis:
"Hearing your story has added upon me another sin." - Vincent conversing with Cloud within the Shinra manor basement.
Six years later, his sleep would be disturbed again, this time by Cloud and his party. Though they almost didn't even find their way to this tomb, fate had another path in store, and it was this confrontation that would set his path of redemption in motion, no matter if he realized it or not. He was silently shocked when Cloud mentioned Sephiroth, realizing that perhaps their paths had intertwined in some way... Yet, despite this, he refused to go along with them. Cloud's story only made Vincent realize that his sins ran deeper than first thought, as his inability to stop Hojo had placed the entire world in danger. He returned to his coffin, prepared to sleep once more...
... But he was unable to rest now. Something stirred inside his mind, and his heart. Thoughts of revenge, of finally making amends...Perhaps it was the words of Cloud and his friend, perhaps it was fear...Or maybe something else. Just as Cloud and company began towards the exit of the basement, Vincent rose from his coffin and stopped them. Cloud's assurance that they were very likely to cross paths with Hojo were the only words Vincent needed to hear, and with that he set aside his self-appointed punishment to follow Cloud.
Together with his newfound allies, they traveled across the planet, attempting to meet up with Sephiroth and send his plans of world conquest. After leaving Nibelheim and crossing the mountains, they came to Rocket town, and alongside Cloud and friends, he met Cid, and assisted in Hijacking the Tiny Bronco to escape from Shinra. Though, not before being er..."Persuaded" to drink tea by Cid Highwind and his diplomatic choice of words.
After escaping Rocket town, the party would begin their search for the "Temple of the ancients". Though during said search, they were betrayed by Yuffie. Vincent assisted the party in hunting her down and getting answers, though she evaded them at every turn. Finally after she was kidnapped by Don Corneo, he assisted Cloud in rescuing her, forcing her to apologize to them. Though everyone was clearly reluctant, she was allowed to rejoin the journey. Vincent was indifferent.
Soon after their impromptu detour, Vincent joined the others in acquiring the keystone from the Gold saucer. He sat amongst them that night as Cloud recalled the journey so far, and where they were going next. There was of course only one possible destination - The temple, to confront Sephiroth. A journey a long time coming, and one Vincent resolved himself to be part of, but one that perhaps most of them were not ready for.
Finally the day had arrived. it was time to confront Sephiroth. Vincent traveled alongside the others through the temple's many trials, traps, and puzzles. Slowly descending into it's depths, fighting tooth and nail until they had reached the black materia - the carrier of the ultimate destruction magic. It seemed impossible to retrieve however, until Cait sith sacrificed themselves to solve the puzzle keeping it trapped within the temple. With the black materia in hand, it seemed as though they had succeeded, all up until Cloud...Gave Sephiroth the black materia, and began attacking Aerith. Seeing no other option, Vincent joined the rest of the group in restraining Cloud from his onslaught on the poor Flower girl.
Afterwards he joined Cait Sith, Yuffie, and Red XIII in searching for Aerith after she disappeared. It wasn't until Cloud woke up that it was revealed to him and the others where Aerith had gone off to. And so he went with the group to the Forgotten City, and it was there he watched Aerith be impaled by the cold steel of Sephiroth's blade. It was there he said goodbye to Aerith in his own silent brooding way, and witnessed Cloud's new resolve to press onwards. When asked if he still wished to come along, he replied with indifference - despite that response however, the truth was that he didn't want to make any other choice. Hojo was still running free, and the others...had become something of friends to him, even if he were to insist otherwise.
Sometime later after having encountered Sephiroth at the northern hemisphere and losing Cloud, Vincent eventually makes his way to Junon alongside Yuffie, assisting Barret and Cid in hijacking the Highwind. Aftere escaping, they make their way to the small town of Mideel, and soon discover that Cloud is alive after all! Vincent does his best to assure Tifa that they will be back to check up on him after she insists on staying with him, and with that he returns to the Highwind with what remains of the team. It was at this time that Cait Sith revealed Shinra's plans of using "Huge Materia".
Vincent teamed up with Yuffie and Cid in order to hijack the Corel Reactor train and steal the big materia located on board. Soon after also assisting in getting the huge materia from Fort Condor. With two of Shinra's huge materias stolen, they returned to Mideel to check on Cloud. Though what they got instead was one of the weapons facing off against them. But managing to succeed, Vincent taunted The Ultimate Weapon. ... Only to moments later witness Mideel sink into the lifestream with Cloud and Tifa in tow.
Despite the odds stacked against them however, miraculously Vincent and the others managed to pull Cloud and Tifa free from the lifestream and revive them. The team finally reunited, he followed along back to Junon to hijack a submarine and attempt to steal the huge materia located underneath the waters of Junon. Though it almost evaded them for a time, they were luckily able to sink the opposing sub carrying the huge materia long before it escaped.
Things were going well, all too well. But then they located a cave during their journey. ... The interior held none other than Vincent's long lost love, Lucrecia. A bittersweet reunion, Vincent had to conceal the truth of her son sephiroth from her. ... No, he told her the truth of the man who was once called Sephiroth. What they were fighting against was a husk for Jenova. They left for a short time, but soon Vincent convinced Cloud and the others to return. Sadly, once they had come back, Lucrecia was nowhere to be found. It seemed his one chance to make amends with her was lost.
Reluctantly he rejoined the group in their mission to steal all of Shinra's huge materia. They arrived in Rocket town, and - After fighting the Turks, Vincent and the others were launched into space. It was here he witnessed Cid's dream being realized, and his relationship with Shera. With the huge materia recovered, Vincent, Cloud, and their allies all escaped from the rocket onboard an escape pod. Soon afterwards, he joined the team onboard the Highwind's bridge, watching silently as Shinra's plans to destroy the meteor fail spectacularly.
But they still had to fight, there was no use in giving up here. That is why he still followed the team. On their return to the Lost city, and during their battle with Diamond weapon both. But the most difficult part of his journey was still on it's way. - The battle in Midgar. He parachuted down into the city alongside the others, and fought his way up to the controls of the Sister ray, where...He was finally able to confront Hojo after all those years. Though Hojo tried to give a hate-fueled discouraging speech, it only served to do two things; Make Vincent angry, and realize that it was Hojo who should have atoned for his sins, not himself.
He beat down Hojo, watching the former scientist reduced to a mutated beast - And eventually fading away to nothing. It felt...Empty, his revenge didn't bring back Lucrecia, or return his humanity. Though at the very least he could rest easier knowing the scourge formerly called Hojo was gone from this world. But with Hojo gone, did he truly have any reason to continue following Cloud and the others? This question was only amplified once Cloud posed it to everyone; Why were they all fighting? He gave them an ultimatum to find their reason for fighting, and return. Or...To part ways if not. And so Vincent thought.
And he came to a conclusion: He still had to fight. He had to fight to make amends for his mistakes. He had to fight for the people who he could no longer deny had become...Friends. He had to fight for Lucrecia. And so he returned to the highwind, much to the surprise of Cloud, cementing that he did care, no matter how much he might pretend to not do so. He wasn't the only one who returned, either. And so they went onwards towards their final battle: Towards Sephiroth.
Down into the Northern crater he went beside his allies, even when they split into seperate groups, still he descended further, ever closer to their ultimate foe. And finally after a long trek downwards, they had arrived at the crater's center. As he stood at the edge of the epicenter, he finally admitted to himself, and to the others...That he didn't mind the journey he had gone through alongside them. Certainly not as much as it may have seemed to the others.
Within the depths, Vincent fought against Jenova, and then after against Sephiroth himself in his two forms. It was a long and grueling battle, but with the others by his side, they were able to destroy Sephiroth and set in motion the safety of the planet. But it wasn't over, not yet. Meteor still slowly fell towards the planet. And so with the fighting finished, he hurried to Midgar ahead of the others and helped the people of Shinra's former capital to escape amidst the carnage. Though after having helped evacuate as much as they reasonably could have, he noticed something strange atop the battered remains of the Sister ray... He hurried up the Shinra HQ through the battering winds and storms, and it was there at the peak that he could have sworn he witnessed Hojo, unconcious, but still very much alive... It was too late to draw his weapon however, as the strange phantom vanished as though it had never been there. He escaped on a hover vehicle, narrowly avoiding Midgar's fall.

On the Way to a Smile:
“One day you will most certainly experience loss. You will be sad and imagining that moment is because of fear. However — it’s something you can laugh at. You’ll get used to it.” - Vincent comforting Nanaki
Vincent and his allies met up in the Lost City after having stopped Sephiroth in order to hold a sort of "Ceremony" for Aerith, Vincent simply gave them a cold "Goodbye" before parting ways. Despite brushing the others the wrong way, he had his reasons for going off on his own. There was still business unfinished, people to reconnect with, things to figure out. It was all something he couldn't do alongside the others. Yuffie attempted to stop him, but to no avail. He only told her to take care of herself before disappearing.
Later on, while following a Turk group, he came across Red XIII attacking a village of hunters, he had no choice but to fire on Nanaki, knocking him out, and scolding him on his actions. Vincent parted ways shortly there after having told Nanaki that there is no single "right choice", but that Nanaki certainly chose wrong in this case. He eventually came across Nanaki once more within the lost city of the ancients, the warrior wolf fearing that he will be alone due to how long lived he is after Hojo's experiments on him. Vincent showed compassion for Red XIII, having suffered similar experimentation, he insisted he would always be there, and the pair resolved to meet one another at least once a year among the ruins of Midgar. Finally the duo are able to share a laugh - in what is probably the first time in decades for Vincent.

Geostigma Crisis and Bahamut SIN:
"Can sins be forgiven?"
"I've never tried." - Vincent answering Cloud's question regarding atonement.
One year following the Planetary crisis and Sephiroth's death, Vincent was absent from the lives of his allies, and even more of an unknown to the rest. He worked alongside various groups, gathering information from many different sources, and helping innocents free-lance whenever the opportunity arose. Eventually, he heared rumors that Sephiroth has "remnants" of his being still left in this world. After gathering more needed information he arrived once more within the forgotten city. It was there he found members of the Turks, held captive and being tortured. Thanks to his efforts he was quick to rescue them and bring them back to good health; Both saving lives, and gaining even more information all at the same time.
A short time after, he would hear a battle occuring within the area, and would soon rush in to save both Cloud and Marlene from the clutches of Kadaj and his brothers. He allowed both Cloud and Marlene to escape by distracting Kadaj's gang, proving to be rather effective against them given his previous reconnaissance over the remnants of Sephiroth. His distraction plan was a success, and gave Cloud just enough time to get too far away to follow...
Later on, Bahamut SIN was summoned, and Vincent would arrive just in time to assist the group, reuniting with all of them for the first proper time in a year. He fought bravely with them to defeat Bahamut SIN, helping propel Cloud high enough to deliver a killing blow. It was yet to be over however...
He joined the team onboard the Highwind, watching Cloud's battle against the revived Sephiroth from afar. Though the others wanted to intervene, he stopped them, telling them that it was Cloud's fight, that he knew better than anyone how best to handle the revived monster. It was these words that would be proven to be true in the end, as Cloud managed to secure victory over the one-winged angel, though at a cost...He was blown up and nearly killed. Vincent helped everyone to bring Cloud to the church, where he was soon revived.
The heroes of Midgar having saved the world again, Vincent parted ways with them all over again. He had helped to save the planet twice, and yet...Something was still not settled. He still yet lacked answers about his past. About what really happened to Lucrecia. It would take him across a year long journey, before a great evil would soon arise, and his past would come to light...
He later contacted Cloud with a newly purchased flip phone, insisting that Yuffie was not allowed to call it.

Dirge of Cerberus:
"Hojo, I've heard enough." - Vincent interrupting Hojo's monologuing
Another year had passed, and Vincent found himself resting in a hotel in Kalm amid a celebration regarding the restored state of the planet. Strange reports had been coming in about an odd incident in Midgar's ruins, one Vincent himself had been investigating. Though it seemed he wouldn't have to go far to get involved, as Kalm was quickly raided, and the hotel Vincent was in was destroyed. He escaped narrowly only to land in what was quickly becoming a battlefield as countless numbers of strange soldiers arrived on helicopters, quickly overrunning the streets and assaulting citizens. He too found himself under attack, strangely even named by the mysterious soldiers as it seemed he was a target of interest, though he himself wouldn't learn of this until later.
Thankfully, Vincent had been instructed to meet up with Reeve and settle this whole matter of the sudden attack. With a goal in mind, he hurried across the city, saving citizens where the opportunity presented itself, and severely crippling the enemy assault force by taking down one of their attack choppers. Still, it was too soon to celebrate, as he found himself being ambushed by a massive man, and a small, lithe girl. They sought only one thing: The Proto-materia.
Their ambush however was cut short, as the timely arrival of the WRO flanked said ambush, forcing the pair to retreat. The situation placed under control, and Kalm liberated, Vincent finally met up with Reeve Tuesti to get some much needed answers. However, he is reluctant to join in fighting this new enemy known as "Deepground". ... Up until he witnesses a stray Deepground soldier open fire on Reeve. "Killing" him. ... Or at least, that's what Vincent thought, until it was revealed to be a disguise for Cait Sith. He was none the less annoyed at the situation, but resolved to assist, seeing no other options.
Reeve sends Vincent along towards the town of Edge, briefing him on the situation of the town's mysterious disappearences. Upon arriving he fights through the streets against the Deepground soldiers, and eventually encounters one of the WRO's scientists: Shalua Rui. After a short discussion, they part ways, and Vincent soon finds himself face to face with the next of Deep ground's Tsviets: Rosso the Crimson, much like Azule and Shelke before her, she demands the proto-materia be handed over. The two get into a skirmish where Vincent finds himself outmatched in speed. The stress of this battle causing him to transform into Chaos. In his berserk state he forces Rosso to retreat shortly before passing out from the trauma of the transformation.
He is brought to the WRO headquarters by Shalua, where he is placed in a healing tank until he wakes up once more. It is at this point he realizes that his past, and the truths behind it are tied to this mission against the Deepground, as Reeve reveals the connections between Lucrecia, Chaos, and the proto-materia. Though sadly his desire for answers is cut short as the HQ is soon raided by Deep ground, led by none other than Azule. Vincent assists in fighting back the invading force before he and Shalua encounter the girl from the deepground invasion of Kalm. She is revealed to be "Shelke Rui", Shalua's missing sister.
Before Vincent moves to fight her, he's given tranq rounds by Reeve, and manages to sedate the lost sister, recovering her before harm can come to her. With that set aside, he leaves Reeve and Shalua to see to Shelke's safety and soon confronts Azule, defeating the man and leaving him unconcious. However, in the wake of Deepground's attack, it's clear that all their information regarding Lucrecia's connections to chaos is incomplete. Vincent resolves to return to Shinra manor in order to face his painful past once more.
It is here he travels through the sewers below Nibelheim in order to avoid a majority of the deepground forces patrolling the small town above. Once he reaches the basement, he encounters a hologram of Lucrecia, it stirs up painful memories, regrets...But he presses onwards after her hologram relays important information to him. He searches the entire manor, gathering her research notes on Chaos and Omega, he enters the entry hall, and is ambushed by Rosso, who quickly rips the proto-materia from his chest, causing him to lose control of Chaos. As she moves to kill him in his stunned state, she is stopped by a mysterious cloaked figure who...Soon reveals herself to be none other than Yuffie.
The pair have a short-lived reunion aboard a WRO transport before returning the HQ, however mysteriously, the place is once more under attack by Deep ground soldiers. He eventually meets up with Shalua and Shelke, where they son encounter a revived Azule, who admits to wishing to kill off Shelke for "outliving her usefulness". They attempt to fight him off, but he proves too strong this time, forcing them to retreat. Though Shalua sacrifices herself to ensure Vincent and Shelke make it safely away from the behemoth of a man. Vincent attempts to relay the reason why people sacrifice themselves when Shelke questions her sister's intentions.
Though the data on Omega and Chaos remains incomplete even now, Shelke reveals that she had absorbed some of Lucrecia's research, and offers it in the hopes of completing it. With their information complete, they gather onboard Cid's newest airship: "Shera", and plan their assault on Midgar, thus setting into motion a new assault on the ruined city in order to confront Deep ground and put a stop to them once and for all. However, before they head out to battle, Vincent is temporarily taken over by Chaos, only being brought back by the interruption of Shelke, who was there to return his phone to him - Which she upgraded to boot.
After a moment of peace and preparation, the assault on Midgar begins, and Vincent jumps into the fray, gliding down into the ruins on top of a hoverboard, however he is forced to land off course due to the chaos in the skies, and - left with little choice, has to fight through the old Sector 7, soon passing through a graveyard of trains along the way. Shelke contacts Vincent and assists him in navagating the area towards the Shinra HQ, as he goes along, he assists WRO soldiers in fighting the ground forces, soon insisting that they stay back so that they can go home alive, as per Cid's instructions to all of them.
After tense battles, Vincent finally reaches the HQ, and begins to ascend it in a search for the entrance to Deep ground. His search is halted however by the return of the cunning Rosso. The pair engage in an intense back and forth battle, but ultimately Rosso's speed cannot prove to get the better of Vincent, and she is defeated. However, insisting that she is to be killed by no one, she leaves Vincent a warning regarding Azule, and purposefully falls to her death. Unaffected by the oddity of her choice, he presses on.
However, he is stopped once more by the aura of Chaos's influence on his body. He nearly falls down, but once again, it is Shelke - This time using the voice of Lucrecia, who explains the truth behind why Chaos was beginning to have such a deep influence over him. By some strange measure, just hearing those words..."I don't want you to die." he was able to push back enough to fully regain himself, for now at least... He pressed on once more, prepared to end this before it was too late.
As he descends further down into the Shinra building, he got a phone call - This time not from Shelke, but from his friends...The ones he had battled alongside what felt like ages ago. Tifa, Cloud, Barret. They all called to give him encouragement. It was strange to him, but...He didn't mind. In a way this made him oddly happy. Perhaps for all he had been through up to this point, just hearing familiar voices helped to bring it all into perspective.
But with that set aside, he stepped onto the elevator leading down into the Deep ground, only to find Azule the Cerulean there already waiting on him. The massive tower of a man taunted Vincent, trying to catch him off guard before raising a chain gun, ready to strike down the brooding cloak. Vincent fought as hard as possible, though barely even scratched Azule, as he merely entered his Behemoth form in response. The fight was turning bleak, as Chaos continued fighting for control even in the middle of the battle.
Azule's endless taunts would ultimately be his downfall, for even though regular Vincent was no match, the stress from fighting soon caused Chaos to take full control, and he wasted no time in reverted Azule to his normal form. - And impaling him with his own chain gun, spelling his end here upon the elevator leading downwards. With Azule dead, Chaos thrashed about uselessly atop the elevator. When all seemed lost however, Vincent's memories...Painful memories, they were what wrested control back, and it was here he woke up just in time for the elevator have reached it's final destination: The entrance to Deepground.
But the internal struggle against Chaos wasn't over yet. Nero the Sable...His control over the darkness forced Vincent to be consumed by it. And it was this darkness that retriggered Chaos's attempt to control it's vessel. It all seemed hopeless, trapped within a black void with a legendary being eating away at his heart. But a light shined through in his darkest moment, telling him to fight back, that though Chaos is a being of darkness - A part of him was born from that same darkness. It was in this moment of clarity that he finally was able to realize how to keep Chaos under control, all without the proto-materia... Though Chaos still thrashed around inside him, he had managed to tame it to some degree, finally stopping it from taking over.
But he had to save Shelke. Nero had done something to her, and Vincent's priorities lied in saving her before he could finish the fight. These priorities led him to Nero once more, and after a short skirmish, Nero attempted to consume Vincent within his darkness - an action which only allowed Vincent to rescue Shelke from her once impending demise. Nero showed surprise for only a moment, before Yuffie uh...Showed up rather late to the fight. Yuffie and Vincent both saw to Shelke's safety before continuing on, only mere steps away from the center of all this; and the final battle to end the deepground.
Vincent and Yuffie finally made it, standing before Weiss the immaculate, the leader behind this entire operation. But before they could act, Nero took it upon himself to trap them both within his dark portals. His efforts are in vain however, as the dark proves to hold no dominion over the brooding loner, and he saves both himself and Yuffie from Nero's clutches, leaving the second to last Tsviet licking his wounds and stumbling back towards Weiss. ... In a shocking surprise, Vincent showed up just in time to watch Nero be impaled through the chest by his brother, and tossed aside like refuse. Weiss stood from his throne.
... But not all was as it seemed. This was not Weiss the Immaculate. This was...Doctor Hojo. The remnants of his mind had possessed the lad's body, and he was prepared to revive Omega in this new form of his. Try as he might however, Vincent's bullets can do no harm to this new and improved Hojo, and he taunts Vincent - On his failures, his weaknesses... Vincent continued to fight helplessly against a superior power. Even trying to bring forth Chaos in order to fight, but it does little to nothing. His struggles are answered by a hologram of Lucrecia. She tells him to take control. TRUE control, not just co-existing with Chaos, but holding power over it. She is interrupted by Hojo, but far too late for him-
As Weiss moves to strike down Vincent, he has already attained enough clarity to not just call forth Chaos; But tap into it's power. He moves in, now on even footing with the perfect being. He miraculously manages to beat down Weiss, and sends him crashing against a wall. Within moments, it becomes clear that Omega's power is fading, all because of Nero. he had entered Weiss's body before being struck down, and had begun to corrupt the pure vessel. Nero merges with Weiss, and Hojo kicks and screams in fear as he is destroyed - This time for good.
But it wasn't time to rest yet. Weiss and Nero merging had set in motion Omega's summoning. And this too had another problem; It forced Vincent into becoming full-fledged Chaos. Thankfully however, Shelke was able to return the proto-materia to him in time, giving him back his conciousness - And control over Chaos. Just as his conciousness returned to him, he saw one last moment of Lucrecia within his mind, in these final moments. She apologized to him for all she had caused, but...She was happy, too. Because for all the suffering they both had to go through, he survived. It was...What she wanted most. She gave him one last goodbye. His humanity restored, he dropped Shelke off to safety, and looked off towards the looming doom.
...It was time to end this battle, Vincent heard the cheers of his friends and allies as they all fought against Omega alongside him, working together to stop it from ending the world. He fought through hordes of Omega's minions, flying at high speed through the ruins of Midgar towards his ultimate foe. Omega was powerful, but he was motivated by those around him, despite being a loner for so long, it seemed...Maybe friends weren't so bad after all. With the others taking down the reactors around Omega - It's source of power, he rushed in and was absorbed into it's core, the very center-point of it's being.
It was there he met Weiss one more time, and it was there the two fought more fiercely than ever before. That brooding loner who once slept within a coffin, content to sleep away his years for his sins, he had given everything he had, and finally struck a killing blow to Weiss. He woke up outside of Omega, having killed it's supposed core. ... But it wasn't enough somehow. Instead of crumbling apart and dying off, it sprouted wings and shot off towards the stratosphere. There wasn't any other way of stopping it beyond...Sacrifice. He knew what he was about to do would very possibly kill him, but he had come too far now to just let it go.
He shot off towards the stratosphere, racing ahead of Omega, and with one last look at the world below him, he poured all of his power into a flying strike against Omega, pushing back against the starbound destroyer. It was painful, and difficult, and he knew this was...The end. With one last push, the sky erupted in a bright white light across half of the planet. Cloud and the others watched on as it lasted for several seconds before fading away. Omega was gone. ... And so was the vessel of Chaos. The planet was saved. But Vincent had met his end.
... Or so it seemed.
In his final moments, it was Lucrecia who had saved him from total annihilation. He spent an entire week there in the cave where Lucrecia rested. Making amends and finally accepting that perhaps he did make mistakes - But he had done more than enough to make up for them by this point. Chaos returned to the planet, leaving him free of one more inner demon. With one last moment alone with Lucrecia, he thanked her for saving him, for giving him a chance to be forgiven of the sins he had acrued over the many years since his sleep. And he left, meeting up with Shelke as they looked off towards the remains of Omega floating in the sky.

A besuited man walked along the streets of the rainy city, passing by contented citizens, he was a turk proud and sure of himself. Of that he had no doubt. Oddly though, the light rain picked up, and he slowly became aware that there were fewer and fewer citizens the further down the street he walked. The neon lights illuminating the area were dim now, and he was alone... He felt ice cold dread in the silence of the rain falling down. He was drawn towards a puddle below an "inn" sign. He fought against it even as his legs practically carried themselves.
Fight as hard as he could, there was no avoiding this dread. He gazed down into the puddle of rain water, the light from the sign above creating a mirror-like reflection to gaze into; But what stared back at him was not a reflection of the Turk. - It was a horrible, distorted beast. He shouted in fear, the disfigured reflection growling back.
"Hmmm...The nightmares are getting worse. ... Why?"
Vincent had woken up, sitting on a ledge overlooking the ruins of Midgar, the rain fell gently on his head and he grumbled, shifting to his feet. Lately he has begun to feel the beasts still lurking within him stir, and he could deny no longer that something had to be done regarding them too. - Being rid of Chaos was not enough. There was only one way to resolve this, just as he always did. He would gather information and search the planet. Hopefully he could find something soon, a fix, even a temporary one might halt the marching progress of the Galian beast. If he couldn't find a way to fix this...He might well lose control of himself, even after all he had been through.
