After meeting by chance upon a little quest, Rayne had taken a very rare level of interest in someone. A young-looking man named Zidane. Rayne couldn't help but picture his beautiful face, his sharp eyes, and his surprisingly dapper apparel. He was a rare sort, at least from her experiences. He also had some degree of charisma, but proved fun to tease at the same time. Rayne found him quite interesting and simply had to explore him further after their little chance meeting.
And so she elected to follow after him. He seemed to travel by ship between worlds, unlike Rayne who traversed the shadows themselves. While not as fast, it was certainly viable considering how most mortals couldn't withstand the darkness and would be eaten by it instead. Rayne snuck aboard the craft and kept to the shadows quite literally. She hid herself within the darkness and explored the ship unseen and unheard, melded into the darkness. It was admittedly a tad impressive. Something Rayne might perhaps be interested in learning about as well...
Before she even realized, it seemed the ship had arrived at its destination. A world known as Gaia which Rayne had never been to before. The ship had docked and it was now safe to depart. Good, Rayne thought to herself, I was beginning to grow a touch lonesome in the shadows when so fine a creature awaits my presence. Rayne traveled amidst the shadows until she found her way out--by sheer happenstance, managing to stumble upon Zidane just as he was departing as well.
Without a sound, Rayne emerged from the shadows behind Zidane, then gently ran the sharp steely index claw of her gauntlet over his shoulder, very nearly cutting into the fabric itself. "Oh dear," Rayne purred, her lips forming an innocent smile, "I seem to have gotten lost aboard this magnificent vessel before it took off... Might you know where we are now, Zidane?" ulla

Invincible was a special sort of airship, one on which transit between worlds was possible thanks to certain technologies. By its size it seemed more suited to house a small town of people rather than a crew, but on such long travels through and between space: such a situation could easily have been imagined. Despite its size the ship seemed to manage well with its crew of one. The man in question was lounged the majority of the flight on the main deck which a window displayed the sea of stars and celestial bodies. His form lay across the ground with head nested on his hand as his elbow rested on the shining, metal floor. A few cards were laid out from his collection as he sorted through the memories of his travels.
For the tailed rogue each card represented a memory. Many of those memories involved his beloved, and many others his friends, family, and those he had been unable to save... The glossy paper squares seemed to conform against the equally shining floor below, the amorphous shapes that danced about seemed a play of light, yet were one to look above there seemed no illuminating features. No bulbs, no fires, nor any sort of electrical conduit. No the soft, bioluminescent glow seemed a natural result of Invincible being active. The soft hums like the whisper of forgotten people...
The halls far from silent, a persistent murmur rolling up through the shuddering valves and piping as the vessel made its journey across the worlds. The dark, star littered road has since lulled the thief to sleep. The occasional whisper would drift across the halls, as if communing amongst one another. It was almost as if the ship was… haunted.
Zidane had woke with a start, stuttering forward when the smooth flying vessel let out an irritated sounding thrum that rang through the lengths of metal coils. Zidane's forehead and smacked down onto the ground with a clap, the drowsy rogue rousing from a -- good dream. His tail bristled, the furry appendage smoothing out as he realized several of his cards had stuck to his face on impact.
“Ow…” he muttered weakly, peeling the flats of paper from his face, collecting the deck back up and sliding it into the back pocket of his jodhpurs. “What he heck Invincible?” As if the ship would answer. A soft red light began to pulse from one of the many passages that ran through the ship. Zidane raised his arms to fold them against the back of his head, tail swaying back and forth as he seemed to ponder following it. Another roll of turbulence sent the message. “Alright, alright already!” He picked up the pace and bounced along before coming to a sliding stop in front of one of the holograms that occasionally sprang up along the ship. Zidane blinked l, recognizing the star chart being presented to him. “No way!” He jumped up, arms waving a bit. They were going home! “Yea--” But the blind enthusiasm, the youthful vigor, and spirited display would come to a screeching halt when a hand, accompanied by a soft, sultry voice, invaded his space. “--aaaaahhh!!” The rogue tried to put space between him and whatever that was, only to barrel right into the wall he was just standing at. With a distressing clank the rogue slid to the ground, slowly, pulling along. Once face first in the ground with his ass in the air the fleet footed thief regained hi senses and scrambled back before tapping the ground and flipping up to his feet with fists out, face a bit red from the full planting. It was her!He filed at her, fists clenching as he dropped his arms to his sides, tail up and puffed out in irritation. “What the hell Rayne!?” He at least remembered her name, but it went against all his principles to forget the name of a pretty girl. Ahhh! He shook the thoughts away. “Y-yeah.” He rubbed his gloved hand over his face, glancing to the side a moment. He let go the concern of her being on the ship because if he was honest he was sure he had stowaway on enough vessels to be considered an international criminal. No matter the feeling one had of the ancient vessel one way or the other: the ship and its occupants would arrive on Gaia no worse for the wear. Zidane had explained to Rayne they were arriving at his home world, but it seemed rather ill defenseible to deter her from following. It wasn't as if he'd listen... Zidane himself had gotten more energetic the closer they drew to the planet, so once they arrived he had nearly burst from his tail! Not even waiting for the ship's descending platform to touch ground the rouge had jumped off with eager abandon. He was remiss to admit it was reckless as the poor, fretting shipwrights were never prepared for it. This was almost rather nice at this point, Absentia thought to themselves as they strolled through the paths. They finally felt like they were starting to get a hang for moving from one world to the next. Of course they still had no idea where they were going or where they would end up, but the getting there was becoming easier and easier with each time they traveled. The biggest issue however was that it became quickly...lonely they supposed the right word for it was. Was there truly no one that took these paths as well? Was there anyone else that could for that matter? For as far as they had traveled here, they couldn't say that they had ever seen another being. The feeling of being watched now and again was present. Something they had chalked up to the shadows. But lurking eyes that may not even be there to begin with didn't make them feel any better about the emptiness that pervaded this place. Best not to ruminate on it overlong though, this looked as good of a place as any to visit a new world. With a gloved hand raised a portal of what erupted from the ground in front of them and they would cautiously step through.
On the other side of the portal, the world seemed beautiful. Big blue sky, fluffy white clouds, mountains in the distance and the ground...far...far below. "...Again? Really, again?" Absentia asked out loud at no one, just a brief second before they started to plummet. Their portals had been unreliable before, but never this badly before! Staring down at the rapidly approaching ground, they would sigh, arms folded as they calculated what the best course of action to survive the fall would be...They weren't moving at quite terminal velocity but the landing would do more than just sting a little bit if they didn't do something. Quietly contemplating they would wrack their brain for any sort of idea, it was quite headache inducing, as though a myriad thoughts were trying shout the best idea at once. Grumbling they would shake their head. "Bah, fine, whatever. I cast Fist." they would say with a smirk at their own joke as they called to their hands the weapons that so chose them. White and golden gauntlets, in the shape of a dog's head. With a black glow beginning to glow around them, Absentia reeled back arm as they neared the ground, likely a strange sight for anyone paying a lick of attention. And just before they would touch down, they swung. The strike slammed into the ground, kicking up dust and dirt and debris in a wide radius, when it finally began to settle, within the center of the crater was Absentia, knelt down and leaning on one knee to try and catch their breath. "Never...ahh....again..."

Looking back the rouge did not spy hide nor hair of the rambunctious maiden. Perhaps she had scurried off, to hide elsewhere? Zidane did not figure himself prey so he didn't want to stick around to find out! It was too much for a guy like him, a girl like that! This was why Dagger was the best girl for him. Satisfied Invincible was empty he would motion a hand, closing the ship up. He had moored off near Pinnacle Rocks, feeling it was not a huge deal to walk his way towards Lindblum along the ground path. Not many took this way so it was better for an inconspicuous entrance!
Hoisting a bag of loot he had acquired off world the rogue made his way towards the daunting city of Lindblum. It was hard to say just why Zidane felt most at home there, despite his love being far from reach: maybe it was how you weren't looked at twice for having a tail poking out your pants? After all Alexandria's population leaned more toward humans, avians, and other semi-aquatic denizens. It was of no surprise given how close to the sea and waters Alexandria was.
He got a strange feeling as he made his way through the gates, something familiar. "Huh?" Looking around he had wondered if some of those Shadows were creeping around... "Hey, anyone there?" Though it was unlike they would answer. Zidane would wait a moment before shrugging and heading on. His goal was the Theater District, but it was a long ways off so he would hoof it toward the Air Cab station. MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS

Stumbling up to their feet, Absentia would shake their head and hands, both to disperse the feeling of dizziness in their head and the gauntlets on their hands. With some semblance of balance returning to them, the robed figure would cast their gaze around the crater they made, resting a hand on their hip. "Well. It's probably going to take more than a groundskeeper to fix this divot...Guess I don't know my own strength..." dusting off the dirt and rocks that clung to their garments, they would begin their climb out of the crater. "There's gotta be a safer way than this...Should I invest in a parachute? Carry a giant trampoline with me? Grow wings? That would be pretty cool wouldn't it? Can I do that?" they mumbled to themselves as they huffed, climbing out of this thing was more work than they were thinking...or maybe that was just the several hundred foot fall talking.
As they climbed though a voice posed a question. And this time it wasn't a voice inside their head! At least, they were fairly certain it wasn't a voice inside their head. If it was, it sure was a new one to them. "No one here but us falling stars!" they would reply in jest, finally getting a hand hold up onto the edge of the crater to pull themselves out and flop down face first. They didn't even take a moment to see who or what was addressing them but they would wave in the general direction of the voice before speaking in a mumbled muffled tone. "Don't mind me...ha...haa...Just practicing my doormat impression....ugh."

Zidane had been along on his way, oblivious to the cacophonous eruption about to occur. He has spotted a shadow from the corner of his eye when the familiar chill crawled from the base of his tail to the tip. He wasn't a pessimistic sort, so he never felt that there was a situation he could face so naught regard them as bad feelings. It was why the sensation had given the rogue measured pause. When the being came crashing down into the Pinnacle Rocks it has not just been the soils rattled but the wildlife and Moogles too! Water washed out from the newly formed crater before slowly washing in as if captured by a Slow spell: the honey slow draining of the collected pools filling the newly formed one. "Whoa!" Zidane had jumped, tail bristling into an indistinct puff! The squirming limb would smooth itself out before he took off run in towards the awesome site. Sliding to a stop at the edge his arms spun around to catch his balance as he has nearly dove clean off the newly formed, sheer cliff. Zidane pushed to peer over the edge only to spy an unfamiliar figure. His own form a less than average five fulms and six ilms leaving his tail another fulm compensated by the curling of the limb. When someone pulled themselves from the pit the thief peered about for a manifested being, but it was nothing, there weren't even Moogles! "What the hell?" Was all he could garner from his repertoire of witty insults. "Pretty lively for a doormat. How'd you end up down there? Not thrown from an Airship, were you?" Though the distant worry there the means to make any more hould be gone... Zidane reached out a hand, offering his help! MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS

"Oh no no, magic doormat. All the rage these days."There was a muffled chuckle as the offered hand was grabbed graciously, gently, as the figure used the extra balance it offered to get back up to their feet. A breath and a sigh and a dust off of debris from their shoulder and Absentia would bow lightly. "Thank you for that. No, I wasn't on an airship, though that likely could prove to be a better way to travel, now that I think about it..." they tapped their chin with a slender gloved finger, shaking their head and shrugging softly. "We had decided to go through a portal for a little stroll, and I was hopeful that we wouldn't make a habit of falling through the sky when I leave but...we might be asking for too much perhaps." Absentia folded their arms and glared up at the sky, as if to curse at it like it were its fault. The fold would break and they'd shrug once more before reaching up and pulling the hood of their gold trimmed robe back away from their face. "Ah, we're sorry, I nearly forgot my manners. Bad habit that." it was their turn to offer a hand this time, the corners of their mouth curled up in a friendly smile. Despite how much it seemed to curl up..."We are Absentia."
Whether the offered hand was shaken or not, wouldn't shake them either way. They were used to getting that offer rejected at this point. Glancing around at their surroundings they would take in the scenery with a curious awe. "Sorry if this sounds stupid at all. But what land have I found myself in? We're still learning the names of realms and their inhabitants and this one seems unfamiliar...Unless I just wound up on a different side of a world I've been to...again...for the third time today."

Zidane took a step back as he helped the fellow to his feet, chuckling a bit at his comment. Releasing their hand he looked around. That was -- strange. There was no ship or even a chocobo around. And while the airship traffic was light, it wasn’t visible above. But they said they did not fall from an airship. So where? Zidane moved to rest his gloved hand on his hip. “I bet. Sure are a lot better ways to visit.” He looked around, the local critters peering around the deeply gnarled roots of the water drenched region. Even as they stood the waters were ankle deep, though after the fellow’s fall the water was now rushing past into the pit. “Ah, no, no don’t worry about it!” Zidane held up his hands. “It isn’t something you can ignore.” In more ways than one.The Pinnacle Rocks was a way out there sort of place so this made things only the weirder. A portal? Well that made a little more sense. Not by much, mind you, but Zidane has known and seen some folk get about through portals or some sort of teleportation. He’s seen weirder modes of travel, like being carried around in a tote bag therein carried by a dragon… or in a barrel being delivered by Moogles to Alexandria so you could sneak away from your crew… “Name’s Zidane!” He’d offer in his usual, jovial manner, when introduced. He held out his hand to shake back, grinning. “Well you fell down here in Pinnacle Rocks just outside the Kingdom of Lindblum, but I suggest we kinda get going. A lot of critters out here’ll start looking at us like a snack.” They rogue professed before turning heel, pointing outowards. For inhabitants Zidane sure looked pretty normal, all except for that bobbing tail as he turned heel and moved to lead the fellow out of the woods, so to speak. The place was really beautiful and if not for the haunting sensation of eyes watching them, it would have been a nice visit. “So where are you from?” Zidane would question, peering back over his shoulder.

"Pinnacle Rocks...Kingdom of Lindblum..." Absentia repeated quietly to themselves, as though committing the names to memory, nodding after a small moment. "We're sure I'd hardly be a morsel for most of the monsters meandering about, and they'd likely bite off more than they could chew." they would cast a glance up and down Zidane, nodding again. "Probably two mouthfuls too many with you around as well! But, yes! It's nice to meet you, Zidane, let's be on our way." one last glance over their shoulder at the crater that had made they'd share their head and follow Zidane along. The young monkey-tailed man was right though, creatures were lurking about, the occasional glimpse of eyes peering out from bushes could be easily seen before they zipped off further into the brush. Absentia seemed to not be phased by the feeling of being watched, perhaps they were used to it? Or maybe it was simply they were unaware. It seemed difficult to get a read on the slender figure. "Ah, we are from..." they paused in step, furrowing their brow in thought. This never was a question they could answer easily. Knowing not where one came from was frustrating, but feeling like it was on the tip of your tongue but unable to be grasped felt worse. They'd sigh and shake their head. "I came from Twilight Town, it's where we have been living for a small deal of time. As for where I am from...we're not certain."
Absenstia shrugged and caught back up with Zidane. Thankful that today their headache seemed to only be a dull pulse, easy to ignore for the time being. "And what of you, Zidane? I would wager you're from this world then?" they asked with a little tilt of their head towards their new acquaintance. They wondered to themselves if all the creatures that lived here had tails. Tails were cute, they wished they had a tail. Maybe a few!

Absentia's remark gave the rogue cause to pause. He slowed to a stop and turned half way about to look at the other, regarding his remark towards the wildlife. Zidane's face contorted a bit at the queer comment. He had rest his hands on his hips and tilted his head. Really? While Zidane wasn't wont to catch onto such things as quickly as his debonair personality would have you think, that comment in particular was a bit -- off. Zidane shrugged, unable to make heads nor tails of the offhanded praise. "Right," he turned heel and continued on, tail twirling to trail behind him and arms pulling up to tuck behind his head. "…sure." He answered half heartedly. "I mean I am." It seemed the stranger's question was a bit more complicated than it would seem on the surface. How can the rogue pick up from his stumble though? As they neared the Pinnacle's edge a slithering shadow made a dash for some of the watered down roots, a cascade of verdent vines created a partition of vegetation that was difficult to see through. Zidane puffed out his chest, pulling his hand to his chest. "Ya see I was once a super villain sent to destroy the world! But I fell in love with a princess and she soothed my soul, changing my ways. So now I live in a grand castle above the clouds with the princess who tames dragon gods!" The boisterous boy flexed and showboated doing flips climbing on a root to visually present the tale! All the while the shadow skittered closer, a red flash before it dipped behind a stump! MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS

Zidane was...quite the curiosity to say the least, Absentia thought to themselves. He carried the air of the dashing thief from stories, just as ready to steal a heart as he was to steal gold. But so too did he seem like someone who was...hm. Lazy wasn't quite the right word for it, his build was far from someone who lounged about enjoying their fill of chocolates and wine. Lackadaisical perhaps? Whatever it was, it was clear that whatever he did, he did well. Absentia nodded as Zidane began. They weren't sure if he was reluctant to share, or embarrassed perhaps? They glanced around at the world around them, it seemed a nice place to live, peaceful even! But then again that was just surface value, wasn't it? You never know if a box is full of puppies or snakes until you open it up...Snakes got such a bad rap, they were just as cuddly as puppies, they had found...The stray thought though was wafted away however by something in the corner of their eye. Something had slipped its way into the vines, and had they fur right now it'd be standing on end...They'd squint off into the verdant green for a few moments before continuing onward.
Just in time too, as it seemed that Zidane had finally found the words he was searching for...Not to mention the antics. Absentia found themselves drawn away from whatever worry there could have been in that sneaky shadow, instead applauding their new acquaintance's acrobatic skills. The tale perhaps to others might sound farfetched, but Absentia had little in the way of knowing what was fact and what was fiction with this story. Perhaps all truth? Perhaps all lies? Was it their place to judge? Hardly! Besides, Zidane's physique at least spoke some truths, he very well was someone you'd best not underestimate. "Quite the tale! To think I'm traveling with a prince." they'd say with a little grin. Whether it was true or not, they couldn't resist a bit of playful banter, it seemed the right thing to do in the situation. "Should I refer to you as 'Your Highness' from here on?" they would say with an unabashed chuckle. "Jesting aside, that was very impressive, I could have watched you all day. Does the Prince moonlight as an actor by chance or..." their line of questioning was cut short however as once again another flash of shadow caught their eye, their gaze diverted and locked onto the nearby stump with a quirked eyebrow...Something was following them. They'd glance towards Zidane with a 'did you see that?' sort of look before returning their attention towards where the shadow hid...

Zidane seemed quite lithe, though he wasn't very tall were he compared to his more athletic compatriots as the likes of Leon or Bartz. His long tail was the same sandy blonde as his hair and curled and swayed in tandem to his steps which had a steady balance despite the heavier looking holster just on his left hip. Though it was difficult to truly estimate what all say behind those eyes which had an eerie glow about them that unlike a normal person. They were the eyes of experience which looked upon Absentia with honest acceptance. A true bohemian on a journey. Yet his claims of royalty did little to abate this image of a traveling bard and neither did his brilliant smile, which curled from ear to ear as he turned on a gil towards the other and bowed extravagantly.
"The prince of thieves, at your service!" He delighted in a bit of showboating. "I've traveled the world over hunting treasures and women!" Though the taste of exaggeration and the validity of an adventurer walked the line. "As a matter of fact..." he put his hand on his hip, standing heel to toe in a pose that seemed full of pomp and pride. "I've a show tomorrow here in Lindblum with my troupe. We're practicing to play for royalty. The Reagent's anniversary!" Zidane turned back around to make his way towards the Pinnacle's exit which seemed a dimmed by the mist-filled morning.
Either the rogue had seen the shadow and ignored it, or had not noticed it as he danced on his airs. He hadn't noticed Absentia's look of query as his ego had been stirred by the questions!
"You know you should come to the show, if you're a traveler it's a must see!"Suddenly the shadow lunged them both in a flurry of white and pink as a haunting wail of kuuuupoooooo rang through the peaks! MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS

There were few times Absentia felt they could relax around someone, truly thus far their teacher had been the only one. Everyone else had given them a feeling of otherness. That they put everyone around them ill at easy. But Zidane seemed to be truly genuine, a welcome feeling to be sure even if a foreign one. The monkey tailed boy was clearly proud of his acting prowess, how long had they been an actor, they wondered? It seemed like second nature to them at this point. A curious hodgepodge this one was, adventurer, royalty, actor...as though Absentia had any room to talk. "We would be delighted to! I vaguely recall seeing plays when..." they furrowed their brow, a tilt to their head as they tried to recall. Had they seen plays before? They felt that they had but couldn't place a when or what. It was vexing to be sure.
Before they could dwell on yet another fractured memory, a curious wail broke the silence as something dashed its way out of the bushes, the shadowy stalker revealing itself at last and Absentia spun to face it, lashing out a hand to catch what they assumed was going to be a blow...instead their hand had grabbed onto something indescribably soft, the moogle now dangling from its pom in their grip. "Uhm..."

Zidane absently swayed his tail to the thoughts of more fellows showing up to the play! Honestly though he only cared if one person showed up at all he knew she couldn't always find time that sneak away. He always, readily, encouraged it though! It made him chuckle as her talents as a princess did well to raise her up as a queen! He was glad she chose to waste those talents on him! It was a bit flustering bit it was nice! Too romantic sometimes! The movement about the Pinnacle never seemed to make the rogue look twice, nor were his blades ever at the ready. The Moogle wailed in frantic ku and po's as it flailed in the grasp of it's captor. Zidane pushed his hands in his pockets and glanced back over his shoulder before turning around. " Oh, it's Monty!" Zidane blurted out. " No kupo!" He flailed more. " Tell them to lemme goooo! It's an emergency, po!" It seemed a pretty big deal because as he wailed for his release a huge, thundering slam echoed across the rocks. But what could be out here aside from a few Sand Scorpions, Zaghnol and other generic seeking critters? " It's trying to eat us!" It seemed Monty wasn't the only Moogle that had escaped the Evil Forest and settled here in Pinnacle Rocks, though they all may have been following the meek and mild Monty. Before Zidane could question the Moogle's cries for help a large shadow spared over the group before slamming into the crags with a cacophonous howl and screech! Zidane jumped in his skin and looked over the cliff's edge, but there was no way to see what had dove down behind the spires of stone. Whatever it was had been strong enough to crack a few. " It's been picking us Moogles off!!" Monty frantically flailed. MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS

Absentia stared at the adorable little creature, who was apparently named Monty, for a brief moment before speaking again. Or rather, gasping and hugging the moogle against them excitedly. Their voice sounded almost softer now, it was strange. "Oh my goodness, they're so cute! We love them!" they would say, snuggling the adorable, soft, and wonderful creature tenderly petting their pom even as the roaring beast rushed over head. "Don't worry! Zidane and I will take care of whatever it is and save your friends, okay?" smiling they would gently sit Monty up on their shoulder before turning towards Zidane with a nod. "I'll follow your lead through the area as we aren't familiar with the layout/"
Having said that, Absentia would move over to the monkey tailed chap's side and look down over the cliff as well with a tilt of their head. "It's huge whatever it is. Do you have any sort of description of this creature, Monty? That way we can track it down and dole out the punishment it deserves for daring to lay a digit on you and your undoubtedly adorable friends?" it seemed that the Absentia had quite the soft spot for cute things. The mysterious becoming less mysterious as time went on. Their glance gazing back over towards Zidane they would continue. "Did you happen to get a better look at it than me? We were a bit...distracted..."
