It's bad enough to find oneself lost in the realm between but in the holiday season too? The Traverse residents remember the feeling and so they've erected a modest but lovely little tree in the plaza and donated all kinds of items for the season. Go ahead. Pick a box and trust your heart. Hopefully you'll get exactly what you need.
[This is just for fun little game. Go ahead and make a little in character drabble about claiming a present and what they get will be generated in response. Will close the day after Christmas.]

He wandered up to the tree from out of the shadows, tapping his chin as though he wasn't expecting this, though in reality of course he was. A celebration to honor those lost in the dark wasn't exactly something that he was planning to take very seriously, though...A little bit of fun wasn't of any harm. After all, the faces on those towns people when they saw a hooded figure waltzing right up to their festive display was priceless to say the least. He stooped down to look at one of the gifts there under the tree, placing his hands on the sides of his face in a mock showing of surprise, he let out a sarcastic gasp.
"For me?!?! Why...You shouldn't have, really! Oh I just CAN'T accept something this nice!"
He turned his back on it, looking away. ... Though turned his head to look over his shoulder, speaking in a childish tone of voice.
"...Buuuutttt if you REALLY insist...YOINK!"
He turned around and quickly grabbed the gift, unwrapping it in an instant.

After that adventure of his that he had long ago, he really was looking towards celebrating the holidays with his parents. Nick looked at the tree that was in the plaza, it was very beautiful with its decorations and bright golden lights.
"Its a beautiful tree, nothing like I have ever seen. I've always loved this time of year. A time of giving, and spreading joy to others. For those who have lost their homes, I hope they gain the strength to keep going. No matter how many times they get beaten down," He said as he noticed something under the tree that had his name on it. It was a medium sized present that was wrapped in black and red wrapping paper, with a silver bow right across the top. There was nothing indicating who it was from.
"A gift for me?" He asked as he picked up the box and looked at it all around. He still wanted to see if it was from anyone, so that he could thank them later. He still didn't see a name. He was also quite surprised that someone got a gift for him.
"Well, whoever gave me this gift. Thank you very much, I am grateful for what I've been given," He said as he used his left hand to start unwrapping the gift slowly, since he was wearing his gauntlet on his right. | |

The package opened by the hooded figure bears a note that says "For those intent on leaving a mark on the world. The colors you choose say a lot about you. The worlds you choose even more."
Beneath that note is a set of six aerosol spray cans each bearing the name of a color. 'white' 'yellow' 'green' 'red' 'blue' 'purple'

I'll spread my wings and I'll learn how to fly I'll do what it takes till I touch the sky. Things had been...Different since leaving the lab. Not different in a bad way, not by a long shot! Nil, though still plagued by bouts of nervousness and self doubt, had made some wonderful friends since he departed from the lab he called home. It wasn't something had had anticipated when he had first taken those fateful steps outside, but any regret he had in leaving was long gone by now, replaced by the hopeful optimism that kept him pushing through day by day. And today that happy feeling had brought him about to wander the streets of Traverse Town, to reminisce on his first days of freedom. It wasn't like it was that long ago, but it did still make him feel warm and fuzzy inside! And today seemed like a good day for it! The town had been fancifully decorated in holiday cheer, and though the berobed behemoth had never had a chance to celebrate before, he read a lot about all kinds of holidays! It was heartwarming really and Nil couldn't help but to pause and admire the beautifully decorated tree that stood in the plaza. Whoever sat this up really put a lot of heart into it. Beneath the tree were all kinds of packages wrapped in festive designs. One in particular standing out more than the others by virtue of his name being scrawled across the tag. A look of confusion graced the face hidden behind that mask of his. Who did he know who would have had the time to leave him a gift here? Was there another Nil here that he hadn't met? That didn't seem terribly likely. He hoped that wasn't the case, as curiosity got the better of him and the young behemoth gathered up the expertly wrapped package and carefully went about opening it... MADE BY VEL OF GS

The package opened by the boy in the black coat bears a message that says "Some gifts mean so much more when shared. Always count on these to bring even the most reclusive of folks together."
Beneath that note is a metal tin depicting reindeer frolicking together in the snow. There are two gifts here which can be realized upon opening. The tin houses a host of delicious smelling cookies with plenty to spare and a deck of disney town playing cards bearing the king's seal.

The package opened by the young behemoth boy bears a message that says "There are many ways of expressing oneself where speech is not required and in most cases better left in silence."
Within the box are several items. One long parchment scroll that is entirely blank. Beside it a set of three quills with different size ink tips, and four small vials of ink. Black, blue, red, and yellow. Additionally, there is a bound hardcover book that is blank as well save for a one engraving on the inside of the cover. "And so it begins." Hidden behind the book is a small carton of what look to be small orange candies that smell suspiciously of a certain tropical fruit.

Here again. It was strange, and perhaps a bit frustrating, for Alma to find herself brought to this same brick-and-neon town so many times, but in the end, she found herself thankful for the familiarity of it. After all, there were plenty of worse places she could have ended up in, and the young conjurer had the feeling she hadn't seen the end of such things. This time, however, there was a distinct difference. A rather large tree had been left in the plaza, the species of which she hadn't seen before. Below it were a number of sacks, boxes and other such parcels, each of which bore a slip of paper with a word written on it. Her curiosity led her to inspect them and, after the embarrassingly long seconds taken to actually read them, she put together that they were all names. Whether they were that of the owners or perhaps a recipient, she was unsure, but when she saw her own, she couldn't help but believe it had to be the latter.
Yet, the question remained: What was inside..?

... A light shining in the darkness. As he stepped forward from the cold night air that surrounded him and into the tree's radiating light, he felt...Bittersweet. Though he was relaxed by the calm and happy atmosphere that surrounded him. In a way, it reminded him of his friends. Were his dreams really true? Were they lost to the darkness? Doubt clouded his mind, but something snapped him back to reality; a small green present wrapped up with a blue bow. It's surface was reflective, the light bouncing off of it catching his eye despite being so meager in comparison to all other gifts nestled below the tree. And yet it was as though it called out to him. He approached it, calmly lifting it up off of the ground with a small smile.
Maybe...His friends weren't really so far away at all.

Huuhh? Where was this, exactly? The mechanic found herself in another odd place. Well, at least she wasn't asleep or struck in the face. The festive mood definitely caught her intrigue, so she moved further into town to investigate, rather immediately catching sight of the large tree that had been placed for all to see. Up closer she stepped rightly, beneath the brightly lit branches from which dangled many lights!
"Neato!"
She uttered and with a whistle. At least the cold meant there were no mosquitoes! But what was this below that tree? A present with her name on it, wrapped with a bow and free?! The gift was a wonderfully blue color you see, with pictures of kittens in santa hats mewling with glee! She gasped and cheered with delight and lifted the box up with no intent of leaving the site! She gave it a shake with a clatter and a pitter patter from inside - Why if not for the typical reactions to these gifts you'd think something was the matter!
"It's just what I've always wanted! A gift for me!"
And no matter what was inside, one thing was for sure: She found joy under that tree.

✉ notes: if anyone wants to be the one to have gotten alex's present, go for it, merry christmas c: what is my true calling in this universe? climbing past these walls is my fate and curse. This place seemed cheery enough, despite what it was. A place where those with no home to call wound up when their world was destroyed. People had gotten together though, and made presents for everyone, even him somehow, if the box he was holding in his hand was any indication. To his right, he noticed someone with their own present.
He looked at them before looking at the box in his hands. He took a moment to pull off the label indicating that it had been addressed to him (they didn't need to know who he was), tapped them on the shoulder, and handed the present to the. Now they'd get two gifts instead of one! Alex wished them a Merry Christmas, and departed just like that. Empty handed, sure, but Traverse had bigger problems than to worry about than him. The package opened by the young white mage bears a message that says "Some personalities are small. Others are absolutely grand. Perhaps these will aid you both when you must be bigger and when you just want to be small."
The box in white and red and glittering gold was ornate. Inside its wrappings a box with a folding lid. In that box a folded up object that appears to be made of fur that is white with dustings of gold and silver is held in place by a few strings of glass beads of varying color. The beads look about the size to hang on one's wrist or perhaps on the curved end of a crook. The fur item when unfolded is a large puffy stole with crystaline buttons in red and a large hood that when folded over could be pulled far enough to hide one's head.

The package opened by the young keyblader in armor bears a message that says "Sometimes we and other things are only part of a much bigger picture. Pass the time and search. It's all the same."
Within the small package there is a small baggie of sugary candies shaped like stars with just a hint of a lemon flavor to them. Beneath that baggie is what looks to be a small canvas big enough to palm though its hard to tell what the painting depicts. It has a an abstract beautiful quality to it. There's blues as dark as the night sky and dots of silver that suggest that that might be what is being seen but the whirling streaks of silver and white go through half of the painting as though something with claws raked them through the blue paint.

The package lifted and shaken by the eccentric girl rattled with a metallical chime. The tag bears a message that says "What a machine does is largely up to the maker. In the end a working machine is just a solved puzzle."
Inside the box was a glimmering object that looked like a pocketwatch but it didn't seem to open the way that most of them would. When turned over a small glass window is visible and inside a plethora of gears that could work together...but something isn't quite working right. Even more concerning is that in a small compartment looks to be a folded piece of paper...with something inside it. Additionally inside the box are a few little screw drivers of different sizes. They look as though they were made for working on this pocket watch. There is also a small pouch with candy mints in it to nibble at presumably while working.
((In time when the puzzle is solved the folded piece of paper reads 'Your Secrets Here' and the object inside is a small necklace a gold gear on a chain.))

The package handed off by the practical man bears a message that says "There are more ways to gain insight than observation alone it would seem."
As to what was in the box...? Well it remained unopened by the original recipient. Giving a gift is a gift all its own and leaves your heart wanting for nothing.
