"Yeah... I'm glad you're keeping note of this, 'cause this is honestly going way over my head."
The mechanic admits as much bluntly, clearly too bewildered to really manage to successfully take it all in. Not that she seemed to be entirely alone in that regard however. But she DID understand one thing very clearly despite it all:
"You're right that it seems to be tied to this thing. - But that's a good thing, means there's bound to be a replacement crystal around here somewhere. - And given the remarkable state this place is in, I'd say we won't have a hard time finding replacements... Honestly I think it'd be smart to bag as many of them as there are. - No telling when we might need more down the line. And just between you and me..."
The spiran looks around, clearly more than a little unnerved.
"I'd really rather not make a return trip."
Ayami took in Zeni's observations over the murals, continuing to examine the effigies as the android did so. A ruined civilization... Could this have been some kind of unknown past of Spira lost to the passage of time? It was so much information to take in, she could only theorize much like Zeni was.
"These... Statues are incredible. All movable parts made of some kind of durable stone. It's soft, but..."
She would give the head of one of them a few solid knocks with her hand to demonstrate her next statement.
"It's as strong as steel. Might not be natural stone. There's definitely no rock like this in Spira. Not that I know of personally. And well... I've been around, I think I'd have seen it if so."
A worrying common theme among these lifeless dolls was starting to emerge as she inspected them. - A clean stab right through their chests. Every single one of them.
"... I'm starting to think you might be wrong about not running into anyone alive down here. Uh... Make sure ya stay on the alert."
It was a simple conclusion that someone... Or SOMETHING must have been alive in here somewhere. This place despite it's pristine state clearly hadn't been entered in forever. So whatever caused the damage to these things must have been on the inside rather than an outsider defending themselves. The android asked what to do next, to which Ayami gave a grin - Hoping to ease the tension a little.
"That's easy. We're making history exploring the unknown, and we still need a replacement. We'll just have to keep on going!"
She stands up and looks at the only other doorway they had yet to explore, giving Zeni a knowing stare of caution before proceeding forward. Another hallway, this time much shorter than the entry hallway. It opened up into a massive room with railing at the end seemingly overlooking a drop into the depths. The blue beams of light slowly raced their way across the walls, lighting up the room in an eerie blue glow. ... And slowly something much more alarming was revealed. Those same unmoving effigies from before were here again. But this time they were in countless piles. All of them in greater states of disrepair than all the others the two had seen before. As the beams of light finished filling the room, they illuminated the end:
Shelves stacked with several crystals displayed on stands, and beyond the railing that dropped off over a pit? A massive crystal sat on a pedestal above the inky black pit below. It seemed as though one would have to raise a bridge to reach it. ... However, the gap in the railing indicating a space for a bridge had something in front of it. ... A lone, standing figure. The light was too dim to make out their features, but they were completely unmoving, their gaze fixated on the massive crystal at the end of the room, their stance was... Not right. It was almost a perfectly straight standing pose, but there were clear errors in the way this figure was standing. One arm was slouched too low, their left hip was raised just slightly too high, their head was at a light tilt. Almost as if it was something mimicking how a person would "properly" stand, but not fully grasping how.
As though they were unable to do so.
