The Buster Sword. To Genesis, this was much more than a weapon, and it always had been. Unlike certain fellows who used it to the point of wear tear and rust overcoming its sheen and causing it much needed repair, this ex-SOLDIER respected and adored this monument to SOLDIER honor and pride. After years of mistreatment on the back of an Imaginary SOLDIER and enduring the elements on the cliff-side grave of a hero just outside of Midgar, it had finally found a resting place; restored within the confines of the Sector 5 Church. This holy place had been visited by the souls of both Angeal and Zack, the two wielders of the blade, as well as the flower girl Aerith before her miraculous resurrection that led her away from the planet of her birth and into conflict among the stars. Cloud had continually visited this place, and now that he was free it was Genesis’s turn to pay respects.
Instead of a grandiose descent from the sky, the angel took the uncharacteristically humble approach of entering through the front door. He refused to let the intrusion of that damnable Turk ruin the somber mood of this day, feeling the need of receiving the blessing of his two friends from beyond the grave to undertake his mission ordained by Minerva. Not that they’d likely truly answer, they both had likely long diffused into the Lifestream, but who knows with all the unorthodox happenings just maybe they would hear him. After carefully playing his Rapier against the wall beside the door he gently shut the wooden contraption before slowly making his way across the creaking floorboards towards the miniature lake in the back. It was a simple matter for the ex-SOLDIER to leap across it, not even needing to flap the exposed wing to close the distance. Dropping to a knee as he landed, one hand rested on the other while his free hand closed to a fist and rest upon the ground before the Buster Sword. Closing his eyes, Genesis bowed his head and let out a sigh before he spoke.
“My friends… It has been too long,” he began, pausing as he let the words roll over in his head before he spoke. Silly as it was, he didn’t want to seem like some old dog repenting to its master. “Years may separate us, the damnable actions of my past inexcusable, but I swear upon my SOLDIER honor that this time things will be different. I am no longer a prisoner of Shinra, JENOVA, or my obsession of reversing the degradation. I will be the hero Sephiroth never was, just as you had been Zack. And Angeal, I…” another pause, a deep breath helping relax the angel and prevent any tears from falling. “I’ll never forget your wisdom, and vow to live by it in ways my arrogance had kept me from doing before. Now that I am the hero, now that this is my story… I’ll be sure not to disappoint either of you again.”
