Fool, you shouldn't stare into these eyes of fire. TAG. Tidus @maeve @zest WORDS. N/A NOTES. Moves Used: Fireworks: An enhanced version of Sparkler, this attack allows Paine to produce a firework mortar out of nowhere, which fires homing fireworks at all opponents, dealing moderate non elemental magic damage to each opponent hit. (Cooldown: 2 posts) After using fireworks, Paine focuses in on Tidus due to his provoke, causing her to use Sparkler: As fireworks and gunpowder were very prominent Japanese inventions, the Samurai Dressphere utilizes them as well. Sparkler allows Paine to produce a single firework out of nowhere, which is already lit. She then throws it at an opponent, dealing light, non elemental magic damage when it explodes on contact. (Cooldown: 1 post) Following Sparkler, Paine attacks Tidus with her weapon. Cooldowns/Durations: No Fear Duration: 1/2 Samurai Dressphere Duration: 2/4 Sphere Change Charge: 1/2 Fireworks Cooldown: 0/2 Sparkler Cooldown: 0/1 |
The moment that Tidus broke away from Paine to attack her now stunned teammate, Paine understood how Tidus fought. Everything was fair game as long as he won. It was disgusting to her, quite frankly. She couldn't close the distance before he would be in striking range of Maeve though. Well..she really only had one option. She reached into the sleeves of her outfit, and out of nowhere, a firework mortar appeared. With one fluid motion, she slammed it onto the ground. Without warning, the mortar started firing off a barrage of fireworks. And yet..they didn't go straight into the sky. They..began homing on on her opponents.
But Paine didn't stop there. She reached into her sleeve one more time and pulled out a spherical firework, its wick already lit. If Tidus were to dodge all of the fireworks launched his way, he would still have to dodge one last one, which was lobbed at him from behind without saying a word. It didn't have the same properties as her mortar, so the aim had to be careful. All that mattered was that they did not get to gang up on her partner. Once the firework show was done, Paine started sprinting towards the pair, her sword mere inches off of the ground as she gripped it in both hands, aiming to slice at Tidus's back. If he was so interested in hitting people while they weren't looking, then she was going to do the same.
Truthfully, this was a bit of a hard sell for a battle. Tidus was far too agile, and she had no way to truly slow him down. She could speed herself up..but that came at its own risk. For now, she would focus on preventing them from picking the team apart. She had to try and keep Tidus's focus. If that meant that she had to attack him, and leave Zest to Maeve..then so be it. She would tear her designated opponent apart if she needed to.

There truly was some form of thrill in this fight. At first, Zest merely believed this fight truly did not have much other than entertainment for others and strengthening for the participants, but it was more than just that. Though an experienced fighter, he realized that a tournament such as held excitement and even joy. It wasn’t a battle to the death but a battle to show one’s strength. Standing before Maeve and facing off against her in a battle of strength was what brought forth this feeling.
He could have slashed at her, but he chose to face off against her strength. He wished to challenge it and as their bodies clashed he got his wish. Maeve expressed her respects to him as they held onto each other and Zest could only close his eyes. His face was as stoic as usual but he felt pleased with his words. “You truly have my respect, Maeve...however...” Zest said as he immediately grabbed her arms and allowed Tidus’s attack to make contact. With the strike to her back Zest managed to escape her grasp and move further from her. “This match involves cooperation with one’s partner...” Zest said, his voice stern and calm. It was unfortunate in a way, but Zest did wish to fight her one on one after this tournament.
With Maeve stunned, Zest's eyes quickly glanced over towards his partner and opponent. Noticing Paine’s summoning fireworks, Zest quickly swung his arm and telepathically begun to control his shield. “Tidus! Behind you!” Zest yelled out as the shield that was near to Tidus and Paine quickly begun to soar in the air but paused behind the blond swordsman. At most this would at the very least provide some protection to Tidus, but it came at a price. As Zest remained unarmed, the fireworks that headed for him made contact with him, knocking him back as he let out a grunt of pain.
His body began to fly back a bit from the blow, but as he was hit he opened his right palm and with it his precious sword Braveheart flew once again into his grasp. Sticking the tip of the blade into the ground he immediately stopped the blowback from the attack and stood in a kneeling position. “Maeve!” Zest suddenly called out as he suddenly rose to his feet, the tip of his sword still remaining in the ground as he held his sword “Steel yourself!” Zest called out as he swung his blade upwards and released his Shining Wave once more.
Actions: 1. Zest telepathically uses his shield to block Tidus but gets hit by Fireworks 2. Zest gets knocked back but telepathically calls back his sword into his hand 3. Zest uses Shining Wave at Maeve

Maeve snapped out of her furious daze as the warrior called out to her. She looked up, her headfins drooping a bit as if in shame from feeling so angry in front of such a stalwart warrior. Determination pulsed throughout her form once more as she pulled out her blade just in time to counter against Tidus' crippling slash. "It's not over...NOT YET!" She declared, taking the warrior's words to heart as she stood. If she was going to win this, she'd have to work WITH her partner, she couldn't divide and conquer they had to stick together. She stood up, looking to the oncoming wave of light and held out her hands to brace herself for the impact. "C'MON! I WANT TO SEE JUST HOW STRONG YOU ARE!" She roared just as the wave crashed into her form. The esper squeezed her eyes shut as the energy ripped into her. She was blown back a few feet from taking the full brunt of the attack but she remained standing. A few gasps and cries echoed in the crowd as they watched the direct hit but like Maeve, they hadn't given up hope. In fact, cheers began to swell as they watched the Dragoness start walking through the magical torrent. Maeve gnashed her teeth and bore the pain but she pushed onward. So when the attack faded she was once more on top of the warrior as she had been throughout the fight. Her form was steaming from the magical burns caused by Zest's wave of shimmering light, and her eyes were practically ignited with the tenacity of her overflowing determination. Her entire body ached and begged her to take it easy but she had him in striking range just as she wanted. "ZEEEEESSSSSSSSTTTT!" She called out, letting all her pain fuel her actions. She stomped the ground, cracking it beneath her feet as she lurched forward into an all out assault. Fateburn flashed and hummed with energy as Maeve swung it with the force of a hurricane. One slash, two slash...Three...Four...Five! The blade lashed out. To the audience it looked like Maeve had been flailing it wildly in an attempt to cut the warrior. To the trained eye however, they'd see that each slash was a calculated one, that built and bounced off the momentum of it's predecessor so not an ounce of impact was wasted. This was her Star Slasher technique! After the storm of steel Maeve would leap up into the air as high as her mighty legs could take her before holding her blade up high above her head. She let that silvery aura swirl around her once more but this time focused it on her blade as she began to charge her magic once more. She looked to her partner before calling out. "PAINE! MAKE SURE YOU KEEP THE BOY IN PLACE!" She called out as she readied her secondary assault. {OOC Stuff} Blocked Tidus slash to her legs

His attack upon Maeve had been countered by the woman and Tidus had to jump back from her in case she retaliated. “Damn,” he responded to her counter. How was he supposed to take her out with Zest if she was such a beast of a woman? Despite them getting a small stun on the woman nothing seemed to truly work on her. Was she the wrong target they were going after? Should they be focusing Paine now instead? Tidus felt confusion on what tactic to take, but his mind wouldn’t be lost in thought for long when he saw what Paine was up to.
“Uh oh,” Tidus commented in surprise at Paine’s attack. He wasn’t expecting her to bring out fireworks. Explosives could be deadly and if they were homing he would be in big trouble. He could probably dodge the majority of them, but he would for sure be hit by some of them. There would almost be nothing he could do to stop them, unless he used one of his overdrives. He could use his energy rain to target the projectiles and cancel them out, but he wouldn’t be able to push forward on his advance on Maeve he had made with Zest. His other option would be to turn her attack against her by getting close to her when they explode. It would be a risky strategy, but could prove effective. He didn’t have much time to think luckily Zest did the thinking for him in this moment. He brought his shield to protect Tidus from behind from the fireworks. Using the shield as protection Tidus jumped to the side away from the fireworks just before the came in contact to where he was standing. They exploded, where he stood, creating a small shockwave that had he not had Zest’s shield on him he would have been damaged, but he managed to survive with only some small scratches from the shrapnel. “That all you got,” Tidus said as he got up to prepare for Paine’s next attack.
Tidus then saw his teammate get had gotten hit by the fireworks and shouted, “Zest hold on!” He wanted to go protect his teammate, but he had to deal with Paine’s other attack now. It was a bomb looking object something that would do more damage, but would be easier to dodge. That’s when he spotted it in the distance. His blitzball that had hit Maeve it was just sitting there away from the group. He gave a small smile as he dashed for the ball and grabbed it. He looked back at Paine and saw the bomb was no longer in her hand. Looking up he saw it arching over him and he needed to think fast so he sprinted towards Maeve again and with his blitzball in hand attempted to slam it into her body.
The explosion rung in his ears from his earlier standing point and he looked back to survey the damage. He was just in time to see Paine heading his way though instead. He needed to defend now or just attack in general. The blonde was usually quick to his feet so he decided on an attack and as Paine got closer he used one of his overdrives. “Blitz, Ace, Serve,” Tidus shouted at Paine. Using a series of eight attacks, one of which he used to counter her attack, he would hack away at Paine hoping to take her down a peg. Tidus would then use an explosive of his own. His blitzball held an explosive in it one that would detonate a few seconds after his kick. As the ball fell from his hand he took careful aim and punted the ball straight at Paine. Should it hit it would do critical damage and hopefully knock her out of the match.
Actions Taken
1. Tidus used Windup on Maeve (dashes to opponent and slams a blitzball into them dealing minor damage)
2. Tidus used Blitz Ace on Paine (Unleashes a series of eight attacks followed by an explosive blitzball causing critical damage)

Fool, you shouldn't stare into these eyes of fire. TAG. @maeve , Tidus , @zest WORDS. N/A NOTES. Combat Moves: 1) Paine switched to the Gunner Dressphere and used Trigger Happy [Lv. 1]: Paine fires rapidly at up to two opponents with both pistols for a single opponent, or with one pistol each, dealing light damage with each hit. [Note: the amount of shots made is determined by a 1d10 dice roll.] (Cooldown: 1 post) Trigger Happy Roll: SZAQ5USX1-10 All shots were aimed at Tidus. 2/3) She adjusted her aim to be aimed at both Zest and Tidus, before using Cheap Shot and Potshot respectively. Fired at Zest: Cheap Shot: An immensely precise shot that ignores magical barriers and deals moderate damage. (Cooldown: 2 posts) Fired at Tidus: Potshot: In spite of its name, this attack is very precise. It is simply a well aimed shot with a single pistol that deals moderate damage to a single target. (Cooldown: 2 posts) Cooldowns/Durations: Dressphere Change Charge Reset to 2. Samurai Dressphere: 0/4 No Fear: 0/2 Fireworks: 1/2 Sparkler: 1/1 Trigger Happy: 0/1 Cheap Shot: 0/2 Potshot: 0/2 Gunner Dressphere Duration: 0/4 |
Alright. This was starting to get quite annoying. The fireworks aimed at Tidus had all missed. She needed better ranged capabilities, if she was really going to fight them both without harming Maeve. So before anything else could be done, Paine came to a halt before she even got close to closing in on Tidus, her entire outfit glowing once again as she tossed her weapon into the air, her samurai robes being replaced with what would be an all too familiar outfit for Tidus. The outfit that Yuna had been wearing the day that Paine had met him. The difference was simple though. Instead of using Yuna's color scheme, it was an array of far darker colors now. And as she held up her hands to catch the guns she was given, something else was easy to see.
The Tiny Bee guns that she used were actually misnamed, as they appeared to be large enough to easily be able to deflect a sword, if she had to. Without saying a word, she pointed both guns at Tidus, pulling each trigger twice in the span of a single second. He was not going to be allowed to make it over to Maeve, not if she could help it. And if Zest wanted to keep that shield, he would have to warn Tidus to dodge. Otherwise, these bullets were going to go right through it. With that in mind, she actually adjusted her aim of one of the guns.
"I guess its time to fill you both with holes." She said as she fired each gun again, the bullets for each weapon being different. The one aimed at Zest was magical in nature. She had kept enough of an eye on Zest to know that he was good with barriers. That was fine. She had enough ability with this sphere to be able to ignore those. As for Tidus..well, accuracy was going to be king. She had already sent four bullets his way. So as she took aim against him, she instinctively fired at his knees. If she kneecapped him, he wouldn't be able to be anywhere near as agile, which would turn the tides of this battle immensely.
God, it felt so much better to not be wearing any of that pesky armor. Now she would be able to dodge things more effectively. Right now, it didn't matter though. She was able to keep the both of them at bay for now. She would need to spend a little more time in this dressphere though. Maybe learn a few new abilities, make things more varied. It would be incredibly useful if she had a few more tricks to draw from. For now though, her focus was on both of her opponents.

His words seemed to get through towards his opponent. Perhaps he did not need to speak those words and maybe it would have been advantageous if he hadn’t said anything, but it was just the kind of person Zest was. The opponent he was facing was not a bitter enemy that wished to do harm to the innocent, but a proud warrior just like him who wished to better one’s self. Though a man of few words, he was a mentor and a leader in the end. He fought for others and so other could improve as well.
His brow furrowed a bit in determination as his gaze responded back to Maeve’s will to fight on. She accepted his blow and took it with a fierce fortitude. He knew that such a blow would not make the woman fall and with it, his left hand reached towards his blade’s hilt. With both hands taking grasp of his sword, he raised his sword and pointed the tip towards Maeve, adjusting his stance in preparation of what was to come. With a cry of power released from her lips, Maeve began her assault and a battle of blades begun. "Come forth!" Zest declared accepting her charge.
Zest took pride in his swordsmanship, but Maeve was a great swordswoman. Each swing, the intensity, and skill were praiseworthy. Though the audience that surrounded them merely thought the woman was going berserk, Zest saw the woman’s true ability. He faced her, with his blade he began to swing at it. He parried her blow, but the next was more difficult. After the second was parried the blade began to make contact with Zest’s body. What could have been immensely powerful slashes was lessened by his blades and movements.
Gritting his teeth and narrowing his eyes, Zest jumped back and immediately had his left hand release his blade. Calling back his shield to his hand, his attention was immediately sent over towards Paine as Maeve called out to her and with that Zest noticed Paine pointing his guns towards him and Tidus. There was no time to protect both himself and Tidus. Raising his shield, Zest immediately used it to block Paine’s blow that was directed towards him. A powerful blow, but his shield that represented his will and resolve that blocked even the mighty blows of Chaos was able to take it. The force of the blow was strong and immediately the shield was knocked out of his hand while Zest was knocked back from the force, his feet sliding on the ground.
There were many options, but despite being attacked like this, he still couldn’t ignore Maeve especially with her aura starting to form. Without pause or hesitation, he released his sword and before his shield could drop to the ground Zest immediately controlled his weapons to spin around him. His blade left a trail of 6 ethereal blades that pointed towards Maeve. Gripping his Braveheart and Shield of Light, Zest immediately pointed his sword at Maeve and released his Radiant Swords straight at Maeve. The swords began to swerve about the battlefield dancing about, but they headed to their target upon Zest’s command.
Actions: 1. Zest faces off against Maeve using his sword to lessen the blows of Maeve. 2. Zest blocks Paine's cheapshot with his shield but is knocked back and his shield is knocked out of his hand 3. Fateburn began to tremble and shake in Maeve's hands as she called upon the mighty power of the light. Her eyes narrowed to reptilian like slits as she felt the power ignite into a glorious blaze of silvery light around her blade. "THIS IS IT! I'LL GIVE YOU BOTH EVERYTHING I'VE GOT!" She roared as she started to fall down from her mighty leap into the air. "LET'S GOOOOOOOOO!" Her voice bellowed out as she started to flip forward. The audience erupted into a mass of cheers and gasps as they watched the dragoness shoot toward the ground like spinning buzzsaw of light energy. Her burning blade left a trail behind her as she hurtled forth. As the attacks neared her she'd simply cry out: "NOW!" Right then her form suddenly disappeared in a flash of white magic. For a moment: everything was still as doubt began to linger in the crowd. A few whispers and concerned murmurs echoed out before Maeve suddenly reappeared in another flash, just a few feet above Tidus! The esper glared down at the boy as she held the shining blade above her head. "Prepare yourself!" Maeve declared before slamming the massive blade down toward him in a mighty arc with the momentum of her fall and all of her weight guiding it. The air hissed between them as that blade sung through it. Regardless if it hit Tidus or not: Zest, Paine, and the crowd would be able to see a flash of light energy erupt from the point of impact as Maeve combined the might of her Diving Beacon with the light of her Sword Oath to grand effect.

Well things weren’t looking up for the young blitzball star as nothing seemed to be going to plan. He wanted to do massive damage to Paine and hopefully chop down Maeve bit by bit to end the fight, but sadly neither of them let him do his tasks. They would either switch up their own movements or completely dodge his attacks. He figured for the most part this made things very exciting to the fans and the audience of this fight, but he wanted to win this match. Victory would be guaranteed if one of his two opponents would just be knocked out of the match, but how? He didn’t have time to think as he was suddenly the target for both of their attacks.
Paine had switched her mode of attack and brought to the battle a pair of guns. “This doesn’t look good,“ Tidus said to himself thinking how would he dodge a bullet? The only thing he could think of was to keep moving and not let his movements be predictable. So he began to run and as each shot made its bang to escape from her gun he booked it as hard as he could. Hoping to avoid each shot and staying in one piece. The first bullet grazed his calf slightly causing him to wince in pain slightly, but he was fine overall he had felt worse pain than this. He could still fight, but then he heard her from above and he knew was in trouble now. Maeve had come and was raging. She must have been angry as she swung her sword at him. He didn’t have time to think as he jumped away from her impact point. Tidus knew he had to do something so while the light began to illuminate the arena he attempted to cast slowga upon his opponents. As he was doing this he forgot about Paine’s attacks and was hit by one of her bullets right in the shoulder. His dodge angle caused him to be hit a bit higher up on his body than it would have had he been standing. “Aghhh,” Tidus yelled in pain as blood began to seep from his wound. He fell to the ground not catching himself as he normally would. Wincing in pain he picked himself up again and readied himself for the match to continue.
Tidus wasn't one to give up so he would still keep fighting. He took deep breathes from the amount of energy he was using from the match. This was turning out to be a long match and though the young man did have a tone of stamina he felt he was over using his energy in this battle. Tidus needed to think things through a bit better and plan out his attacks, but the two girls barely gave him enough time to think. Still he had his blitzball on him and he decided to at least try and use it again. So he chucked the ball at Paine in an attempt to stun her. It worked on Maeve so maybe it would work on her. Wincing from the throw he began to charge towards Maeve as she was the closest target to him and used his duel smash. He would swiftly swing his sword at her twice to deal minor damage to her. He wanted to do more, but with his injury he needed to conserve his energy as best as he could. Should his attack hit or miss he didn’t fully care as he jumped back towards Zest and asked, “What’s the plan now?”
Actions Taken:
1. Tidus used Slowga upon his enemies. (Reduces number of actions of opponents by one)
2. Tidus threw his blitzball at Paine to try and stun her. (Sphere shot)
3. Tidus ran up to Maeve and used his duel smash to deal minor damage.

With his command his blades fired forth and sliced through the air, shooting straight towards his opponent high in the air. If he could strike her while her guard was down then surely it would be an advantage for them, but Maeve counteracted this plan. As the blades closed in on her and were about to pierce her, the esper vanished from where she was and the blades merely went through the empty space of air that Maeve used to occupy.
Zest’s eyes widened a bit surprised by the sudden act of teleportation, but his eyes quickly narrowed as he gritted his teeth a tad. At the most all he could do was merely use his eyes and scan around for the swordswoman, but where she was about to appear was the question. Ignoring Paine was also he couldn’t afford to do as it would lead him unguarded. The moment his eyes looked over towards Paine and Tidus he noticed the sudden situation the blond swordman was in and his body began to move, running towards the fellow companion.
Zest’s grip on his shield tightened as sparks began to form and coat it. There was no time for him to reach where Tidus was and it was too late to help him. Tidus was damaged, but he had at least managed to let out some strikes at his opponents. It was a prime moment for Zest to take advantage of and with it the shield in his hand was released the moment after Tidus’s Sphere Shot. Tossing it with the might of pure light, he sent his shield directed at Paine and with it he telepathically begun to control the shield, striking at her with relentless and powerful strikes from all angles. He released his Ultimate Shield and with a final strike he called back his shield. Tidus returned by his side and immediately Zest stood in front of Tidus calmly as he was asked what to do next. “Provide me back up...I will defend and you shall attack. We watch over our weakpoints and we don’t allow for them to take advantage of it...teamwork will be key...” Zest said as he waved his hand to the side. While he was no mage, he could only cast the magic that was suitable for him. With the first spell he casted Protect upon himself and with the second he casted Saber on Tidus. With this Tidus would act as the Sword and Zest would act as the Shield.
Actions: 1. Zest uses Ultimate Shield on Paine after Tidus’s Sphere Shot 2. Zest uses Protect on himself 3. Zest uses Saber on Tidus

Nothing was working! Even with all the power of the Light coursing through her blade she still couldn't land a single hit! Was she really this worthless? Or Was she just fighting out of her league?! Her frustration boiled over as her attack completely missed it's mark. That was when she felt the air grow heavy around her. As if overtaken by some kind of oppressive aura the Esper would feel her body slowing under the magical effects of the curse. "No! Dammit!" She hissed, as she tried to break from the invisible bonds that held her. "P-paine be careful! ...Paine?"Maeve watched as her ally slowed to a stop due to Tidus' slowga magic. She was a sitting duck! Maeve had to do something to help her! So it was then that she decided... If Paine wouldn't be able to move then she would be her protector. She would stand stalwart to the end, that was what she promised to do for any who would honor her as an ally. So as Tidus had hurled his ball in time with Zest's ultimate shield throw: Maeve turned her attention to Paine. She smiled a bit sadly because she knew she might very well lose her opportunity to fight. Her headfins drooped somewhat helplessly as she uttered an apology. "I leave it to you...Paine...I'm sorry I was such a lousy partner."With that: she'd activate her next spell. "COVER!" The dragoness roared triumphantly as her final spell activated. The two opponents would be able to see a glowing white light bind the two together just as the attacks made contact. The blitzball and the spinning shield would slam into Paine over and over again but nothing would come from it. Paine wouldn't feel it all in fact. The aura created by the tether seemed to absorb the impacts completely. "GUAAAAHHHHHHHHHHAAAAGGGHHHH!"
Maeve screamed out as the tether began to shock her with enough force to bring her to her knees. Pulses of pure pain and agony rippled through her as the shocks exploded through her with enough force to cause her body to writhe and contort in agony. She panted out, the tether severing completely as the dual attack ended leaving Paine unharmed and the already damaged Maeve on her knees.
Tidus' empowered slashes struck true as the blade crossed across her back twice with enough force to cause her to crumple into the ground in a heap. Her eyes hung heavy and she uttered one final apology.
"S-sorry...Paine..."
"MAEVE RAKSHASA. KNOCK OUT!"

Tidus nodded his head at Zest's advice saying that he would be the strength of the team. This was true as Tidus was more of an offensive user in battle and really lacked defensive abilities. His agility and speed did help with this but if he took enough damage he knew he wouldn't last long in fights. Tidus prepped himself when he was enchanted by Zest and he charged at Maeve with his attacks.
Tidus watched his target as his final attack hit and he knew something was wrong. He was so focused on winning the match he forgot his humanity and the fact both girls were here for a fun and possibly a fair fight. The young blonde felt his smile fade as he grabbed his wound once more from a wince of pain. He couldn't no he wouldn't cause anymore harm to his opponents. The match in his mind was over so he put his sword down and rushed over to Maeve. He bent over her and lifted her head and said, "hey you did great. We should spar again one day." He looked back at Zest and Paine and announced, "I'm going to take her to see a healer you two dont hurt each other too much." Tidis gave a small chuckle before placing his hands under Maeve's arms. He lifted the woman into his shoulder getting a feel for her form and trudged out of the arena. He would wince with almost every step from the wound he suffered earlier. The match didn't matter anymore only the safety of his opponent.
No attacks used. I'm also posting from my phone so I apologize for any mistakes as I have fat fingers.

Paine didn't know what was going on. For a moment, time slowed down. She had been hit by various things after that. But..none of them hurt her. It wasn't until Maeve screamed and crumpled to the ground that Paine realized what had happened. She had been put under the effects of a slow spell. She should have been used to that. She had used spells like that all the time in her adventures as a gullwing..and yet..she stood there like a sitting duck, brought to a halt as her exhaustion started to get the better of her.
Once Tidus left, she felt the pressure on her body release, as he had finally gotten out of range. She looked to the clock that was counting down the match. There were but seconds left. With Maeve knocked out, it was clear who the victors were. So, Paine let out an irritated sigh as her outfit glowed once more..only to leave her unarmed, and in the same attire she had been in at the start of this encounter. It wasn't that her partner had been poor at her job. It was that they hadn't worked together. Paine had all sorts of tricks that she could use. But she hadn't known the abilities of anyone else in this match. That was what had sealed their fate. With that, she sighed before turning on her heel and walking out of the Arena, leaving the crowd to murmur amongst themselves as she dug in the pocket of her skirt. The sphere that had taken her here wasn't glowing yet. But it was clear what had gone on. Zest was the last one standing, and as she made her way into the hall that she and her partner had walked out of, she heard the timer clock down to zero, a horn signaling the end of the match.
There was no two ways about it. They had lost, and were the first team to be eliminated. This was pathetic. She had saved the world. Why had this been so difficult? Was it because she didn't have all of her arsenal? Or was it because she hadn't worked together. None of these questions would be answered today. She pocketed the sphere and walked out into the main area of town. Was she worried about her partner? Sure. But she had also seen people take far more damage than that and survive. She had faith that this would be no different. For now, she needed to find a place to go and collect her thoughts.
Paine has exited the arena. Combat END.

Eyes widened as he noticed what had just occurred right before him, yet Zest continued to do what he needed and with it he would finish it. He didn’t expect the movement at all, but such an action earned the praise of the warrior. Maeve was a true warrior who fought until the bitter end and perhaps one of the toughest opponents he had fought. His shield struck the esper and in the end that final strike decided the results of the fight
It was finally over...
It was truly a well-fought battle and his eyes closed calmly as Maeve fell to the ground. Despite what had occurred, despite how valiantly they fought, the esper uttered apologies as she fell. “Hold your head up with pride...proud warrior Maeve...” Zest said softly as he glanced over at Tidus and gave him a nod. What he desired the most at this moment was merely to have Maeve be treated and taken care of. This fight truly was nothing worth being severely wounded fo and in the end, Tidus walked off with Maeve and left Zest and Paine alone to finish the match.
Zest’s eyes turned to Paine ready to continue the fight, but that battle had come to an end as well as Paine walked off as well, leaving the horned warrior to stand in the middle of the arena, surrounded by cheers for the winner of the round.
“Is this...why Rojo likes it so much...this praise?”
Zest pondered such a thought, thinking back to his valued comrade that always liked the praise that the people would give him. He never did understand it at the time, but in a way, he could understand why the red mage felt such happiness from such praise. Regardless, such praise was not what Zest for. He was never in it for praise and even in this fight, it was merely for him to better himself. It was truly a right decision to do such a thing. In this fight, he experienced new forms of combat and pleased an audience that coated the arena. His eyes calmly closed and there were no words he expressed, keeping the warm feeling he felt inside as he walked off into the halls.
