Figment
Nickname:
Figgy
Age:
Questionable. Appears to be a young adult despite acting rather childish. Somewhere around 20 at least, but likely quite a bit older.
Gender:
Male
Job:
Imagination Dragon, a most prestigious job!
Side:
Light
Family:
Dreamfinder: Figment's all around best buddy!
Chimera: A big lovable critter from the realm of Imagination.
Fye: An outcast Sound Sprite who befriended both Figment and Dreamfinder after an exciting misadventure.
Capri: Dreamfinder's great-great-great grandniece, an eager inventor just like her uncle!
Uncle Max: A kind and friendly dragon, rather reluctant to be a fire-breathing terror. Much more interested in reciting poetry or making puzzles and brain teasers!
Personality:
Figment is an optimistic, cheerful, and childlike dragon. Born in the Realm of Imagination, it's little wonder that his playful nature often wrangles him into many mischievous situations. Often times the dragon can come off as airheaded or nonsensical, but Figment is a wellspring of wisdom and wit...even if only the young and young at heart can truly understand it most of the time.
Not the least bit shy, Figment's more than eager to make new friends. Even with those that others might find scary! After all, when you come from a land of imagination, you can't judge a book by its cover! And when someone makes a friend with Figment, they've got a friend for life. As silly as he is the dragon is loyal and happy to lend a helping hand when needed, or offer some helpful lessons on life...Even if those lessons don't always make much sense.
History:
Some people say that the power of thought, imagination specifically, is one of the most powerful forces out there. Why, it's imagination that's brought about every technological or magical advancement in any world! Someone with that spark to think up something new. So much creativity, so many dreams and thoughts, why they surely must come and go from somewhere right? It's hard to say which came first, but the Realm of Imagination seems to be the source and home of all kinds of fanciful thoughts and creatures of all sorts. Creatures like Figment.
Whoever it was that first thought up Figment must have had a powerful imagination indeed. Or perhaps Figment had always been? After all, the Realm of Imagination has existed for a long time and he's been here as long as he can remember! Figment's world is an interesting patchwork amalgam of scenery, patchworked together from dreams and memories and thought. It's here that the dragon frolliced and would while away the hours with nary a care in the world! Nor a second of boredom! The Realm of Imagination always had something new and exciting in store, be it something big or something teensy weensy. But the most exciting adventure Figment would embark upon came not from within the realm, but from without.
It was a beautifully sunny day as it often was in Figonia, Figments little slice of Imagination, when something wondrous happened. With a flash of light and a pop of energy, a visitor from another world had arrived in the Realm of Imagination. A jovial and friendly inventor by the name of Blarion Mercurial. Blarion would explain to Figment the nature of his visit and of his amazing invention, the Mesmonic Convertor! A device made to harness the power of imagination. Figment didn't entirely understand the science mumbo jumbo behind it, but he knew lots about the power of imagination, he lived it after all! The two became fast friends and spent hours talking about their respective worlds and their thoughts and dreams.
Eventually, Blarion brought up the idea of exploring Figment's world, something that the dragon was most certainly eager to do! So the duo sat out into the Realm to explore and learn about...well. Anything and everything! There were so many fascinating creatures, some that even Figment hadn't met yet. It was during one of these excursions that the two had taken shelter in a cave for the night to rest. Unbeknownst to them, another creature had been doing just the same! A massive, pink, winged dog like creature called the Chimera. The beat took an interest in Blarion, slurping up all the metal buttons on his suit, and even taking the man's pocket watch.
When Blair attempted to retrieve it, the Chimera led the duo on quite the merry chase. One that ended up drawing the attention of the Sound Sprites. These fairy-like creatures were none too happy with the destruction and chaos that was caused, and ended up capturing both Figment and Blarion, throwing them into cell alongside a Sound Sprite by the name of Fye. Fye was imprisoned due to their 'discordant rhythms' not fitting into the Sprite sound-based caste system. As Figment often seems to do, the dragon befriended the sprite, encouraging him that they'd find a place where he'd belong. Meanwhile at Figment's suggestion, Blair was engineering an escape. With a key fashioned the once-duo-now-trio made their escape.
But it wasn't a clean getaway! The Sound Sprites were in hot pursuit, but thanks to Fye's sound abilities, and the timely arrival of the Chimera, the group managed to escape one danger...Only to end up flying into another.
For every light, there's a darkness, it's said. A shadow lurking just out of view. Here, in the Realm of Imagination, that darkness is called the Nightmare Nation. A chunk of the world filled with bad dreams and terrifying creatures, doubts and negative thoughts. And the group had flown straight into it. Shadowy terrors and black masses of fear and doubt attacked and seperated the group, preying on their despair. Thought it was a struggle, Figment managed to free himself and find Blarion, having nearly given in to the terrible fears that clung to him. But with help from the dragon, Blair would find the courage to begin believing in himself again. The power of Light awoke in the man becoming Dreamfinder. With this power Dreamfinder tore through the Nightmare creatures and saved his friends, opening up a portal back to his own world in the process.
Back in Blarion's world, the group was met with a terrible sight, an army of robots terrorizing the landscape in an attempt to bring everything to 'perfect order'. After learning more of the situation from Blair's boss at the Academy Scientifica-Lucida, Chairman Illocrant, the group prepared to do battle with the army of robots and their leader, The Singular. The battle was long and arduous, but eventually thanks to Dreamfinder and Figment's combined efforts — as well as Dreamfinders swanky new personal blimp — a new portal was soon opened back up. Unstable as it was, the portal sucked in not only the Singular and his army, but Figment and Dreamfinder as well. Illocrant, Fye, and the Chimera were left behind and swore to honour the duo's sacrifices.
However, their journey didn't end there. Figment and Dreamfinder found themselves flying over a lush landscape on the other side of the portal. A strange geodesic sphere rising over the horizon. After landing the Dream Machine, the two soon discovered that they had traveled forward in time, and a statue of had been erected in the campus of the new Academy Scientifica-Lucida. It wasn't long before they both were swarmed by excited students...and a less than impressed Chairman Auckley who accused them of being trespassing imposters. However, it wasn't long till a much older Fye arrived and verified their identity. The old friends caught up and learned quite a bit about the new academy, and the strange sphere that rested near it.
It was a curious source of energy, one that the Academy had been tapping into, but one that was unreliable, as it had a habit of vanishing for months at a time some days. Dreamfinder offered to demonstrate the power of mental energy through a flight demonstration with the Dream Machine, but the blimp malfunctioned and crashed. Fye suggested they try again the next day with the Mesmonic Convertor, which had been kept in storage all this time.
The whole while, Dreamfinder was having a difficult time adjusting to all of the changes in his world. Technology that far outpaced him, making the man feel like a relic. But Figment was ever an optimist, and tried to convince his friend that everything would work out okay!...Sadly, figment was wrong. The next day, when the new demonstration began, the Convertor too malfunctioned, and the geodesic sphere vanished! The Chairman was quick to blame Dreamfinder for this, which proved to be a breaking point for the man. Black fog poured forth from Dreamfinder, an entity called Doubt. Dreamfinder called out for Figment to run and get help while he tried to suppress the Doubt. But this only allowed the being to possess the man, turning him into the Doubtfinder. The dark being wasted no time in taking over control of the school and the students within.
Figment fled as fast as his wings could take him. Searching high and low for anyone that could possibly help. Luck or perhaps fate would lead Figment to a young girl by the name of Capricious Aloysia Harmony. Or Capri for short. She instantly recognized Figment as her great-great-great grand uncle's best friend, and that she'd been trying to apply to the academy because of the two of them! Figment hurriedly explained the situation to Capri who offered to help without a second thought when the dragon explained that much like her uncle, she seemed to have quite a bit of dream energy in her.
The two rushed back to infiltrate the academy to rescue the students and Dreamfinder, but when they successfully retrieved the Mesmonic Convertor the Doubtfinder was quickly upon them, trying to capture the both of them. But in a moment of quick thinking, Capri used the machine on herself, summoning a creature from Imagination, a flying cat named Spark! An imaginary friend of Capri's. The trio eventually managed to open a gateway into Doubt's shadows and rush in to free Dreamfinder. Battling their way through twisted childhood memories and a great maze, they managed to find Dreamfinder trapped by his fear and self-loathing. Figment and Capri however managed to remind Blair of his good nature and how inspirational he is, in spite of past mistakes.
Their belief in him reignites Dreamfinder's own, freeing him of the darkness as the Doubt fades away, allowing the four of them to escape back to the real world. However, the Doubt wasn't gone, rather it had gained enough power to separate itself from Blarion and took on a monstrous form. With a vicious battle on their hands, Dreamfinder hurriedly tweaked the Mesmonic Convertor, allowing everyone to bring their dreams to life. And while this destroyed the helmet in the process, the students were soon freed from Doubt's control, and all sorts of creatures from Imagination poured in. With Figment leading the charge, they easily overwhelmed Doubt, proving that imagination was stronger than fear.
With the day saved, and the Academy being given a new power source in the form of imagination itself, Auckley offered Dreamfinder a teaching position at the school. Dreamfinder declined however, wishing to explore Imagination some more before settling down, perhaps even find the missing geodesic sphere. Maybe even see other worlds! With a new Dream Machine brought into existence, Figment and Dreamfinder assured Capri that they'd always be there in her dreams as they flew off into the sunrise.
Passing not back into the Realm of Imagination, but the border between worlds, both Figment and Dreamfinder were unprepared for how difficult the travel would be, and the strange shadowy creatures that dogged their travels. After a particularly nasty chase and a crash, Figment had blacked out only to find himself waking up back in the Realm of Imagination. However Dreamfinder was nowhere to be seen. No sign of the Dream Machine either. Even after a week of looking there was no sign of his friend. And the scarrier thing was that the Nightmare Nation seemed to be bigger than he last saw it...
If Dreamfinder wasn't here, he had to be out there somewhere! In another world! It took some creative thinking on the dragon's part, but Figment managed to find a way to open up small Mesmonic Portals of his own, even learning a few new tricks along the way. His first stop was back to Blarion's own world but there was no sign of him there either. Not one to give up on a friend, Figment now sets out to not only find Dreamfinder, but maybe make a few new friends along the way. Perhaps out there he can find out why the Nightmare Nation is growing too...

Vwip! Poof! Sproing! Flash! From nowhere a something! A portal, colourful and bright. Out of it flew a purple dragon with yellow horns that looked around inquisitively. He was getting better at this! Kind of. At least now he wasn't getting sucked into the portal like a vacuum and deposited on the other side landing on his head! Once again Figment was on the hunt for his lost friend...There were so many worlds out here to search!...So how was with umpty berjillion worlds that he kept up landing in the emptiest patches of them? Shaking his head, Figment landed on the ground and coiled his tail up like a spring....BOIIIING! Up high into the air he flew, scanning the horizon before falling back down...SPROING! Back up for another look! There was a town off in the distance, seemed a grand place to start!
Landing, the dragon dusted his tail off and zip zoomed towards the town...where Figment was not met with open arms, but pointy spears and scowling faces demanding to know who...or better WHAT he was. "Hi! I'm Figment, I'm a dragon! I'm looking for my buddy Dreamfinder, have you seen him? He's about this taaalllll..." Figment hovered up and held a hand out to show the tallness before moving it down. "And about so tall without his hat! He's got a bushy beard and a fancy coat and a flying machine!"
The guards just stared at the dragon in confusion but slowly lowered their spears, obviously this floating goofball wasn't a threat. Sadly for Figment they hadn't seen Dreamfinder, but offered to let the dragon stay in town for a while to see if he showed up. Figment wasn't a dragon to turn down such hospitality, and if the smell of baked bread in the distance was any indication, delicious food! Figment would spend about a week in this town, playing with children, teaching adults about the power of imagination, and generally brightening their days. But he couldn't say forever! Dreamfinder was still out there somewhere, probably looking for him too! So the dragon bid a fond farewell to the new friends he made and opened himself up a new portal, wondering just where his imagination would lead him this time.
