Rufus settled on the bed’s edge and looked to Tseng. His earlier comments were taken into consideration, but not really. Rufus already had in mind what to do with that fellow, and generally all the facade that seemed to be building around Junon. “Background checks would stave off the rampant corruption left in my father’s wake and my negligence.” He would, at least, admit to that. “It’s come to my attention we need to rebuild Shinra from the inside out. Replace those whom we’ve lost. While I am sure Tuesti hated us to no end, and my father despised his incessant nagging over the well-being of Midgar’s citizen’s he had a duty and -- a point.” Even those like Scarlet, as irritating as the woman was: had her role in all this and those individuals were, at worst: irreplaceable. Sitting forward he clasped his hands together, resting his arms on his thighs. The curtain of blonde hair fell over his eyes in thought as he considered everything he had seen upon landing. It wasn’t hard to spot the lack of protocol. Armed soldiers were scarce and the engineers, at best, kept the runway in usable condition, but any black ice or rain to come by the heliport would certainly bring disaster. With the vacuum of power left by Rufus’ absence many became lazy without leadership, like a bunch of feral dogs who had lost their master, but these men acted like rats just barely managing to keep their sinking ship afloat. Rufus pushed his hand to his face and moved to stand, feeling restless after that long ride. Sitting down just seemed -- useless. He folded up his sleeves, the air in the room stifling. Even the small ceiling fan did little to circulate cool air. Little did Elena know he had left her to the task not because she was green, but he needed a moment with Tseng. But Elena was not around during the original operations, still young and not yet undergoing training as a Turk. Too many questions at the end of a very long day was not something Rufus wished to deal with, simply. “ While we are in Coral I need you to locate a certain man, a Doctor there. He may have had affiliations with Hojo in the past and still have old Shinra files on him. Rumors, but I was able to learn the whereabouts of a few who left that Kalm house after you rescued me.” Though it was not the man Tseng may have considered. He was, after all, dead. “ Just find out how much he knows about a project called Raven. It had been stolen from headquarters and never recovered." Upon Elena’s return Rufus nodded. They could have a nice meal and just relax. In the morning the boat would be ready to take them to Costa del Sol where they would be put on a Chocobo drawn cart and carried to Coral. The food arrived quickly allowing Rufus to sit to a meal. It would allow for a more casual setting and casual conversation, something Rufus had not indulged in, in a long time. All work and no play… Made Rufus stir crazy. “ So who will be staying up with me playing cards the whole night?” Was that -- a joke? Could be, but he could also be serious. As of late sleep has evaded him and he perhaps -- knows why. ▲ 568 ● Meastro @lanetaka ● Strip Poker anyone?

Rufus almost never listened and it drove the Director crazy sometimes. But, that was not the end of the world. At some point, the Turks would stop doing the simple things that he kept requesting and he would need to find a real secretary. Until that time, he supposed Elena would suffer and have to do the work. He answered Elena's question as to the name of the place, shaking his head as he did. He could not believe either of them. This was so far below their pay grade it was pathetic. Yet the president did not seem to care even the slightest bit. It disappointed Tseng at times, but he needed to stop letting it bother him. Especially when Rufus brushed it off and didnt even bring it up again. Simply taking what he said and reapplying it to a new conversation.
"....I'll speak with Reeve and see if we can do full checks on all current employees...." He responded in kind. It was not a bad idea. It would help weed out anyone that was feeding off the corruption and deterioration. Tseng watched the President as he got comfortable before Tseng moved to sit and wait to see what else the President wanted, half waiting for Elena to finish her task. Especially since Rufus waited to give the Director a mission after Elena left the room. Did he think that Tseng would not inform Elena as to the mission? She was his partner at the moment and she needed to be aware if Tseng had to leave Rufus's side to follow through on the objective.
But, the topic of Ravens was not one he wanted to hear. All it did was bring up harsh memories of the original Avalanche. "Raven...." he replied quietly with a shake of his head. "... I hope you have more details then 'a male doctor'...." He added as he moved to his feet once more. If this was a simple retrieval mission it would be easy. He prayed that Rufus had no plans on reinstating the science department to develop Ravens. That could be very bad. He understood SOLDIER would have to stop and be replaced with normal civilians like the WRO had managed. But, this was not an alternative he felt would be a smart choice.
When Elena returned, the conversation almost seemed to end as Elena sat their food down. He accepted his food and thanked Elena before setting the container and sitting at the small table with Elena to eat their meal. It was a nice change to be honest. Plus, it was good to actually see the president eating a full meal. He'd been drowning himself it work as of late. So, the comment about cards was surprising. "We could certainly take turns if you really wanted. We have to switch shifts to both be rested for the morning anyway..." He responded, not letting it play as a joke. But, deciding otherwise. "I understand Reno's not here to win all your gil, but I don't gamble."

Elena had missed pretty much all of the conversation the two men had. She returned with food and the correct cutlery that they used before settling down at the table. The blonde found her life so awkward right now, more so then before. Before she was just a rookie not trusted with anything, now she was in that stage where she had kept her mouth shut to save Rufus and worked hard to protect him... but that still didn’t make her an official Turk in anyone’s eyes. She was always going to remain a rookie to each and everyone of them.
Taking her chop sticks The women began to eat along with the men, the change in pace lately had been well needed. That said it was starting to slowly return to how it was before, slowly, there was still ways to go yet. But it was getting there. That’s when Rufus piped up about playing cards. The blonde knew he place and said nothing, plus she wasn’t very good at card games, Reno had made her play more then enough when there was no electric at Healing, that was bad enough. The blonde was rather happy just to sit and eat and relax. Hearing Tseng’s comment about Reno and then about not gambling it made Elena smile a little as she ate. Tseng was such a honest man and a gentleman even at remarks like that. Finding herself blushing slightly she grabbed her can of fizzy pop and opened it, drinking the cold liquid in hope it’ll take the colour away from her cheeks. The hazel eyes women could only blame herself for her actions, she placed the can down and returned to eating her rice. “I don’t mind taking first shift if you want to play cards all night.” It was her own way of getting out of cards, plus if both men stayed up late, her job would be so much easier if the president was asleep.

It was better that Tseng spoke to him. Rufus didn't, rightly, get along with the commander of the WRO. Tuesti was an idealist and a man of dreams. Hard work and helping others, he felt, would pay off in the end. But Rufus had lived his life among predators who wouldn't think twice of taking advantage of this good souls whom he praises. While Rufus could admire his determination, as a man. Who slept with wolves Tuesti should know better. He lacks the basic understanding that sometimes you had to tell people what they wanted so they could do what was needed. That was where Shinra came in. As a company that innovated the wheel it was their job to make the loves of Hans easier. It was their job to find a way to the stars that did not need Omega or any other divine entity to lead them. It was these mad ramblings of the stars, legends of old and wild beliefs of a ready made paradise that had driven his father from the hard working innovator he was to the witless husk of a dreamer. Rufus hadn't dreamt for a long time. Nightmares had since replaced the void of sleep where he once had rest. It often left him drained. Though, some days, these vivid visions of terror pushed him forward, lest he face the edge of death once again. The sheep his father had herded has become the wolves and they its prey. Now the world.watched and waited. He was a lamb for the slaughter. If he could not succeed where his father failed than he did not deserve the life he fought so hard to preserve. Rufus had his ambition. He would create a new world. He was the President. He survived the devastation and continued to support the daily lives of every person on Planet. None could dare hold accusations Shinra having failed in taking responsibility. If nothing else they rebuilt the world. Rufus leaned back in his chair. A few loose buttons on the collar of his shirt and one less piece of fabric had only helped so much in this heat. The executive began to feel his brow sweat and it was obvious as silken threads of his blond hair clung to the edges of his face. Blue eyes drifted towards the Director, a soft chuckle rumbling in his throat. He sat up, reaching into his pants pocket where he pulled out a folded piece of paper, which he slid to Tseng. “There is a contact we will be meeting in Corel, but we need someone patient, quiet and who doesn't have any connections to Raven or that time in the company.” And all signs pointed to Elena. Yes. The greenhorn. She was the key for this mission. “She will need to just ask a few questions, lead the informant to the meeting place and when we are done with our business in Corel, we leave. One party member larger.” So it was an extraction mission as well as a negotiation… interesting. When Leny returned Rufus removed his pinstripe vest, leaving him.in his thin, white shirt. “Finally.” He praised as he began to eat. The food was greasy, but it was filling. “Well, if you don't gamble than we can play for vacation time. It isn't gambling when you aren't losing. Every game you win, a week on your vacation time.” He kissed, knowing full well Tseng didn't really take vacation time. He motioned his hand to Elena. “No, no, stay a bit. Perhaps you'll be able to earn yourself a few weeks. After all we won't be getting into North Corel until noon, if we leave in the morning. You'll be able to sneak a few winks of sleep.” He mused before kicking off his shoes, finding himself cooling off as he peeled out of his clothing. After filling up he would walk to the dresser and pull from the top drawer a deck of playing cards. It was still hot, finally forcing the executive to remove house blouse, which he deposited on the bed. He returned to the table to dole out the cards now just in his undershirt and slacks. His pale skin was sweating bullets from the stifling heat. Ignoring any contesting words they would have.little choice but to play at least one round with the president. “One must also be relaxed to handle negotiations, not primp and proper. These are not Midgar citizens or Shinra. These country folk still detest the devastation caused by our company and Scarlet's rash decisions and aggressive… policy.” He explained. “So how will you handle the elder of the town, let alone that friend of Cloud’s? What was his name? The current leader of AVALANCHE?” He questioned. ▲ 798 ● Tseng @lanetaka ● Down to business

Tseng remained silent as he listened closely to the president as he removed a few layers of clothing. Rufus may be so inclined to do so, as would Reno. But Tseng had never done so outside the comfort of his office. He walked fully clothed in Del Sol in the middle of summer. This is about the same. He could survive till he was able to rest for the evening in their room. It would be a rather nice break. "I could always open the port hole if you'd like. It might provide some sea breeze?" The director suggested as he stood a bit out of the way.
He accepted the piece of paper as it was slid to him. The man slid it into his pocket after glancing at the note's contents. A simple nod the only real response. So they would have to have Elena o that. He would ask and request Elena to manage this. He wasn't wrong with wanting someone that had no connection to meet the contact. They would not see what was coming that way. They'd handle it. He knew Elena could handle this.
Elena reappeared not long after the explanation with food. Tseng nodded with a thank you. Rufus never was one for those sort of things. Manners and all. The Director let out a sigh as he got the foood situated and moved to sit at the table with the two to eat. There really wasn't many places to eat and they hadn't determined shifts officially yet. "....Its no point. I don't usually take my vacation time unless it's injury related." What was the point. Though, Elena might be interested in the prospect. Though, it was a bit tempting. The President would have to honor the time if he did that. Maybe he could manage to get actual time off for a change.
Rufus continued to strip off layers before sitting with his deck of cards. It was beginning to look like they did not have much of a choice but to play along. Though, Tseng planned to decline as long as he could. "Barret Wallace, sir...." He responded. "He can be as hot headed and foul mouthed as Cid Highwind. But, the man would be willing to listen to reason. Especially if it benefits his town. We shouldn't worry too much."

“I don’t really need time off sir.” Elena said as he spoke about cards; to be fair Elena’s mind was in other places right now. For weeks she had just day dreamed away, with everything that happened she couldn’t really concentrate all that well. The blonde even wondered if she should still be a Turk with how much she day dreamed. But no one had said anything about it. The blonde just ate not really paying much attention. Her mind was only brought back to the room when Rufus started to remove layers of clothes, the blonde women didn’t really know why he wore so much, no one cared what he wore. The president could walk around in jeans and a tank top and no one would properly care, he’d properly get the women of midgar to like him, he wasn’t bad to look at.
Elena half hoped that Tseng would start stripping off, who was she kidding, the man would live and die in that suit. But a women could live in hope. Everyone knew how much she crushed on the man, it’s a shame nothing ever came from his invite to dinner. But since then and now so much had happened, she doubted if he’d ever ask again. Properly not. The women sighed threw her nose as she stood to put her rubbish in the bin before sitting back at the table with her can of cola she had brought with the meals. “Barret Wallace? I haven’t seen him in a while.” Elena chimes in, she didn’t know what else to say, it wasn’t like he was talking to her. Maybe she should of kept her mouth shut, nine times out of ten she should of kept her mouth shut.

| Sorry? Why, I've never had this much fun. | |
Rufus had doled out the cards and would expect a proper game of cards with the Wutian director. It has been a while since he could sit and worry only if tomorrow the would wake too late. To think that Rufus thought of simply being on time as a privilege. After facing death a marked number of times in a row you become incredibly aware of your place in the mortal coil. Not just that but you become just a bit disinclined to bet your life again. He set down a hand of cards. Look at that, a Full House. Leave it to him to draw so many kinds before the pauper. Now that he thought about it the majority of the Turks seemed drawn from the orphanages created during his father's war of supremacy. Many families, his own included, became tangled in the tightening red ropes his father sought fit to hang himself with. And yet it was the Turks who had survived the worse of what Shinra had to offer. That was right. His roots were never a mark of concern. That man was loyal to a fault, so long that none of his creed's were put into jeopardy. Sometimes Rufus wondered how a man of his morals ever aligned with company like Shinra. There had to be a great deal of purchase for a man to fall in line with the most corrupt force of their old society. Rufus could easily question what resolve a man had to have to follow another like his father. It was not until meeting Tseng was he able to visualize the complaints his father had for the sector and just why it was they eventually sought fit to kill him. Damn the collateral damage of a collapsing government, one could cry. But naught did that world mattered. For, you see, that was no ideal belonging to Rufus. The youth dreamed of usurping his father, as any hot blooded child looked to prove that he as better. The abusive words of denial and constant challenges from his father drove Rufus harder than he liked to admit. That bastard of a man had won, in a way. Shinra senior has mad Rufus the ruthless man he was today. It had made Rufus want the world to fear him. In hindsight his goal of giving the world cause to fear him had been a destructive miscalculation on his part. Perhaps it had been his father's plan all along as well. It gave the blonde haired president cause to shudder to imagine his father still puppeteering him from beyond the Lifestream. Whatever the course it was a mistake he paid for to this day, in a currency far more scarce than gold. Willing to listen to reason? Tseng’s words were almost cause for amusement. “ A man only listens to reason when force and intimidation cannot get him what he wants.” An ironic picture seeing as Rufus himself has found clarity when his threats and all his power was for naught in a collapsing world. “ So we give Wallace and the village elder no other recourse.” He laid his hand of cards on the table, almost visually presenting his following words. “ There are many across the continents which suffer due to their inability to secure a consistent source of energy. So we appeal to his sense of humanity, dignity and guilt as the leader of AVALANCHE. We either spread the trade of his oil, or the many suffering in woeful climates continue to suffer due to a silly mistake one man made in his vie for leadership.” Rufus chuckled. “ You see Shinra is not the only hated for their actions. AVALANCHE's hands are not free of blood.” How pitiful it was to admit to such a mistake and conversely accuse another of the same. But to some the humility was what guaranteed his everlasting rule and no other seemed able to face the truth of the lies they had spent a lifetime swallowing. For much his youth he has believed himself to be groomed to take over his old man's position. In the end his father had done more to simply have a mouthpiece in which to rule from the Promised Land. There had never been a desire to have an heir. An heir meant one was prepared to die and leave behind a legacy. His father was prematurely assured with a victory that would never come. And so ended his legacy. A stain on the world. “ Oh, so you've personally met him? Well than I believe you'll be best suited for the talks. You've always been much more of a people person.” Of course he had baited Elena. He was well aware of the missions they were sent to, off to find Cloud and his eco-terrorist buddies. “ Since you don't need time off you can head to bed early. You'll be busy in the morrow, I'll even write you an itinerary of what to go over.” And snapped into the trap she was. He would do to attempt and keep Tseng up a bit longer to speak of times before. How his father had wasted every opportunity to create a world worth writing about. Rufus… Rufus still had dreams of going to space. It was not because he tired of the world below, but if they were not ready the worlds which Omega had promised to carry then towards would find them. Eventually sleep would have to be found. The morning would come quickly and their ship to Costa del Sol would be ready. The preparations would be short and the trip long so they were given a cabin on the ship where they needn't mingle with the crew or rusting cargo set for the beach side resort. It would take only half a day, so they would arrive in the afternoon, Planet willing. ▲ 979 ● Tseng @lanetaka ● A carriage worthy of a king

The director watched the president as he began to deal out the cards. It was not his forte and he would not pretend for it to be. Reno was the one that was best next to Rude at card games. Tseng understood the basic concepts, but he did not enjoy it in the slightest. He stood as he watched the president play with the cards. He was a bit unamused with how he was speaking and acting to be honest. But, he wouldn't normally say that sort of thing out loud. It was not important.
Tseng had been a recruit directly from Wutai. He had gotten caught by Veld attempting to listen into the ShinRa / Wutai talks before the war. It prompted Veld to enlist him. A chance at a better life outside the country was a higher priority than trying to grow in their ranks there. Obviously, he had chosen the winning side even though he would never have contact with any of his family there, if they were even still alive. To them, he was dead having joined ShinRa. It was that simple. Not many people knew about his past. He was not sure if Rufus even was aware of this. Though, it may have been skipped over in the official report by Veld.
"....it is actually a rather natural thing, sir. Though, maybe not to you." He replied with a shake of his head. He let out a faint sigh as Rufus discussed how he planned to handle things. This would not go over well and he could see Barrett firing off his gun arm now. He really did not feel like dealing with the fallout of this whole scenario. But, that was his job. "You may be right, but the people of Coral know greater pain from ShinRa. They're side with Avalanche if it came to that. You are aware of that?"
That's when Elena fell into the trap and Tseng shook his head. The woman knew better. What was she thinking mentioning that she knew him like that. Now he was going to make her uncomfortable. It would also probably get her to back pedal and agree to play cards. This was going to go downhill and they all knew it. It was getting a bit warm though. He knew he'd probably need to loosen his tie a bit to try and cool his neck. His hair not helping the situation very much.

“Personally? Only on mission before the whole Kadja thing..” Elena said, kicking herself under the table for falling for Rufus’s trap, she should of been paying attention. But she couldn’t help but let her mind wonder sometimes, it was a natural thing to do when your life was boring all the excitement of being a Turk was real over now, if anything this was more baby sitting duites.
Being excused for bed was almost welcoming, Elena stood with her can of cola that she hadn’t quite finished yet. Even if Rufus had a motive for her. Right now it got her out of this conversation. She knew she was trapped in this mission now, why had she choose the one time to be listening to be day dreaming about Tseng stripping out of his suit when he rarely took his tie off? A women can dream, she just needed to get past it and just do whatever mission he had planned for her that involved Barret.
“Goodnight.” She told the two with an awkward wave before leaving the room to go into a side room where her and Tseng’s shared cabin was. She laid on the bed for a few moments gathering thoughts before shifting up to shower.

It was an early morning. Checks and measures were made by the crew to ensure safe passage. Each person on the ship was accounted for, every item, and a final overview of the ship's conditions. Many of the tubs in Junon's care had been there pre-Meteorfall do a number had to be decommissioned from wear while others were permanently beached by the mayhem caused by Sapphire WEAPON, the tidal waves that washed ashore after its assault and the firing of the Sister Ray had lasting repercussions. It did not take long for them to get aboard and be along, on the way. Their quarters we're below deck. It was not the most quiet of journeys as they were house near the propulsion systems. But at least it was here those with seasickness would feel the least amount of motion. The ship's belly cut through the waters with such ease that it kept the tub relatively stable even in the roughest waters. It was an not always so calm, but today from Junon to Costa del Sol they would find no contest from the weather. It was sunny and signs of spring came with gulls occupying an overcrowded perch over the bridge. Crew members kept to their duties and kept the deck clear of debris. Minor systems were constantly checked and the captain made sure to encourage Rufus’ comfort. Having had enough of the attention the executive headed to the cargo hold where a few extra crates had been set aside to be delivered with them upon their arrival to North Corel. The man was not followed by his hound, the beast following Elena around.l for whatever reason. Though she knew why! Rufus stood with his arms crossed behind his back. The crate just had a WRO symbol, nothing else indicating what it could be except for a code: REC - A01If Tseng did his job the man would likely recognize the call symbol for the Reclamation Project headed by the WRO to restore areas made barren by Mako spills. It has become a curiosity, that church in the slums. The flowers there always grew. Many thought it a miracle but miracles could always be explained. The soil there was special. The water there… it did help the Ancient had tended to the area, but in the end it was a result of Planet itself. It was water. Water itself from fresh springs untouched by the poisonous backwash from the reactors. It seemed a simple solution, but it still took work. If the men and women of North Corel could see beyond their past Shinra had a chance at putting their foot in the door. Rufus has spent a great amount of money and resources looking for a way to make things grow around Midgar again. To no avail. It was all too poisonous still. One day maybe, but areas that hadn't as much exposure could be helped. They could grow food again. If Rufus wanted to be in charge he had to be responsible for these people and people needed a leader who could provide for them. If Shinra could not continue to provide innovations to make lives of man easier than why did they still exist? “ This is our last chance.” He spoke aloud. Still at Elena’s side Dark Nation seemed focused. Their ears twitched as their head raised up. Letting out a snarling they seemed to alert of something! Off in the back of the ship on its stern Sahagin began to pull themselves aboard. Five if the turtle like predators gas somehow managed to pull themselves onto the ship, keen on hunting a few humans for their next stew. ▲ 613 ● @lanetaka Tseng ● Far from land, on a sinking ship

Tseng had taken the first watch, being talked into a round of poker. But, it wasn't long as he certain did not try very hard. The president rested a bit and Elena swapped shifts with him during the night so he could get some much needed rest himself. Neither wanted to leave the man unattended. It was their job to keep him safe. Once the sun rose, Tseng was awake and ready to perform his duties. He situated himself and was dressed for work.
The Director shifted up with the President to do whatever rounds he was planning. Dark Nation following Elena like a puppy. Honestly, it was rather amusing. Rufus probably was not very pleased by the shift in the dog's attention. But Tseng stayed silent and out of the way. He wasn't really meant to speak unless he was asked a question or it was to handle an issue. The two left the captain and moved to view the cargo they were taking with them. He did note the WRO symbol. But, he didn't want anything again. He hadn't been asked anything.
He knew of the President's intentions. He was fully aware that Rufus was trying to make ammends and fix the company's past mistakes. He wouldn't have been donating anonymously to the WRO if that wasn't the case. He cared. It's why the Turks remained loyal through the crisis and the fall of ShinRa. They felt that ShinRa was trying to make things better. A way to attone for their past downfalls. But, not all agreed.
The growl caused Tseng to change his gaze to the appropriate direction. A soft sigh escaping his lips at the sight. Honestly, the crew should be able to handle the issue. "Sir.... we should probably move you to a more secure area." He stated as he stepped forward to make sure that it was only the handful coming aboard from the one direction. The Director didn't want to change his attention off the President to do the crew's work. He gestured in the direction that they had come from, the crew noting and beginning to shout between one another. No one wanted to look bad in front of the President. "Elena..." He gestured, allowing her to take the lead so he could watch the back. Some basic fiends were not something he was very concerned about. They'd be docking soon enough.

The blonde turk honestly didn’t mind Dark Nation being glued to her, she got along well with the pup like animal, every so often Elena would fuss over Dark Nation when no one was looking, yes it was Rufus’s ‘guard dog’ but still it was a pet and like the attention too. As the growling was heard Elena noticed the turtle like predators that were trying and succeeding to climb the boat, the blonde could easily stand and fight but Tseng’s words proved that now wasn’t the time or there job. When the wutainese man said her name and festered for her to lead all she could do was nod in agreement and start walking back the way they’d come. She understood that the crew had to deal with this, after all that’s what they were being paid for. As Elena turned a corner a young crew member ran straight into her, lucky enough her reflexes and training took over and she caught the man before he fell. The young male apologised before shifting off head down not to meet the glaze of the other two, Elena shook her head slightly and continued to walk on forward, ready for anything that really came her way. “Surely we’re close to docking soon?” These sort of creatures didn’t live in dead oceans, that was the first give away. ( Tseng Rufus Shinra ~apologise for late reply~)

| Sorry? Why, I've never had this much fun. | |
Rufus was more than possessive. As a human it was his nature to covet. As the son of Shinra it was his very lifeblood to take that which he was entitled to, even if it meant the world itself. That was his goal. While his father had hunted a paradise spoken only of in legends Rufus had a more immediate and material goal. If his father wished to control heaven than Rufus would remain here on this star and rule it. Such had become his goal from an early age the further from Planet father had become. The Senior Shinra had shown signs of his mental decline. His sordid fantasies and ever increasing trips to the Honey Bee Inn to become king in his dreams had pushed responsibilities of the company squarely onto Rufus’ shoulders. What he did not handle led him to excuse it with teaching Rufus. And while his father did teach him many a things -- it was his own shallow view of the world that carried Rufus to the understanding of greed and its uses. The prince had very little use for a throne, or a palace high in the sky.
Such possessions did not stir loyalty nor did it buy respect.
Not that Rufus would admit but he -- loathed the relationship Dark Nation had gained with Elena. Perhaps it was maternal instinct, or pack, but the Tentacle Hound tread beside the Turks with a familiarity the beast only ever afforded the young Shinra upon until his father’s death. Perhaps it knew… They were his dogs. Loyal beasts that were fed by his hand, and led to shelter with his actions. The twice born president did not put much stock behind the ideals of friendship, a thread so easily broken by the tides of war, famine and sickness. The Turks were -- more than friends as they marched through the bowels of the Lifestream itself to find him. He could not say that it stirred fancies of love nor feelings of happiness. It was pride. It was a pride knowing he had picked the right people for a job. They were indispensable. But there was a sense of envy that his favorite fancied the greenhorn as it did… So perhaps he could feel such things.
Perhaps he did care.
But he’d never admit to it.
Standing where he was Rufus found the ship an easier ride. All this tossing and turning did undo his stomach a bit, what with his libations in sweets and rich meals. Perhaps he should fall into famine himself, but the medicine always made him crave more to eat than what was typical for the Shinra. A light sigh escaped him. Such events had become more frequent with the shift in Planet. Fiends had become more aggressive, some event mutating beyond the natural ecology of their regions making it so that areas needed more protection than usual. Another aberration that many blame the current Shinra on, despite their efforts. He shrugged and turned heel, walking back toward their cabins.
“How boring, just when something interesting happened.” He joked.Of course it was a joke. He was hardly the sort that sought out danger. If he could avoid doing any difficult work he could. One should work smart, not hard. It was the outline of his belief. If other people were willing to do it for you, than your needing to raise a finger is just a way to complicate the matter. Dark Nation was more than willing to be the focus of attention. Praise was what the beast lived for as it meant their job was being done correctly. It was a fiercely prideful beast and was remiss to lose to anyone, or anything. A subject of selective breeding in the same types of facility that promoted makou therapy and monsters like Sephiroth… Far from their wild cousins the breeds trained by the company were weapons. Dark Nation barked, the sound deep and booming, carrying across the ship. As the Sahagin were fought off the woman took off upon Tseng’s call. Disinclined to flee from a fight it would catch sight of Rufus and pad toward him, moving to his side in a guarded state. Its bladed tail stood up and this erect ears twitched. “Isn’t it interesting though?” Rufus spoke out as a grin drew itself upon his lips. “How much a man is willing to sacrifice for a dream?” Though it was a seemingly random comment it became clear seeing the crewmen fight the beasts off. While some did so to show off to the president and be seen for what they could do there were the older crewmen who knew naught but their ship. If they lose it they lose their livelihoods. If they become known as sailors who did not go down with their ships they become liabilities for other crews. The freedom provided by maritime activities was different from the military or backbreaking labor on farms. They traveled the world and were always secured in the fact that so long as the ship was docked there -- they were home. After all was said and done the Sahagin were soon fought off, having injured a handful of men, but leaving with nothing to show for their own loss in numbers. Four of the ten Sahagin to have boarded the ship lay dead on the deck. Tey soon docked in Costa del Sol. The bodies were tossed overboard, the bipedal mercreatures serving as little more than carrion for the local wildlife now. They were unfit for men to eat and had no resources to carve from their brittle bones and shell-covered, meatless hides. They were soon able to disembark to land. Their supplies were fitted onto a truck set to take them up into the mountains. There was no time to stop and rest as they were soon lead to the truck and shuffled on like goods. These vehicles had little room for leisure, the luxury gone with the need for a strong engine and loading space. They would have to climb the mountain paths which were riddled with monsters and fraught with other dangerous obstacles from rockslides to bandits. They would be given a few minutes to board the truck, so only passing glances could be afforded of the coastal paradise.▲ 1051● Tseng @lanetaka● It isn't easy anymore

Tseng had grown quite used to the president over the years. He'd known the man for as long as he had been with the company. It wasn't until after his attempt to betray the company and his own father that they'd been in direct contact with one another. He'd been under turk confinement for a few years with Tseng being the direct contact for the man after Veld left. It had been quite annoying until the Turks had been isolated by the company and thought traitors. Rufus had given them the ability to save some of the division and get the remaining few their freedom. Rufus recognized that they hadn't betrayed the company, their actions had been in the companies best interest. It was then that he'd practically sworn his allegiance to the current president.
Since then, the four of them had been his right hand. The crew worked to dismiss the beasts as they were charged with that task. It was their job after all. The director glanced over at the president at his seemingly random comment. Tseng presumed it was in reference to the crew, but he really didn't care. It wasn't relevant to keeping the president safe or any future missions. So, it was ignored.
They docked and the monsters were handled. Tseng handled making sure everything was transferred over properly before getting in the back with Elena and the president, two SOLDIER in the front to transport them up to the meeting place. Tseng sat so he could see out the front of the truck before settling in and glancing at Elena and Rufus. At least they were prepared for this meeting. Elena already knew that she was to stay by the man's side for the time while he made sure that the location was safe. He trusted Barrett not to pull something, it was everyone else that worried him. Scarlet had left a deep scar in that area. Even if this was in the past.

Hearing Rufus’s comment about what people would sacrifice for a dream; Elena found herself biting her lip, Rufus believed a single girl could guide Gaia to the promised lands, he and his father had sacrificed many for that dream, soldiers had fallen in fights as had Turks and every day men and women. So the comment really hit something with Elena, maybe she shouldn’t care, but she always found it so hard to bite her tongue, she was a known talking, maybe to much of a talker. But this time she managed to keep her mouth shut.
As they docked her eyes kept on Rufus as Tseng dealt and made sure things ran smoothly, Dark Nation staying by her side, almost as if she was her master now, but she knew that wasn’t true, the beast only prefered her to the other Turks because she made sure she was walked and fed. When Rufus moved inside the vehicle, Elena let the beast in first before following herself as she watched Tseng move so he had a better view. “How long till we get there?” The women asked as she watched the two men, she wasn’t to sure how in land they were going and she was sure as hell that she wasn’t going to enjoy being suited and booted with the sun shining as hot as it was.
<Apologises again for late reply.>
