Prompto is described as the one with the most cheerful and light hearted attitude. Coming from a lower class than his friends, he feels inferior compared to their social standings and wishes to provide some use to the party. Having not been raised in nobility like his friends, he feels awkward in formal situations. Never caring for social statuses, he never refers to Noctis as “your highness” and likes to take a laid back approach viewing people for who they are, not by the titles they are given.
He is always looking for ways to cheer the group up and is the life of the party. With his extroverted personality he easily blends into conversations but loses focus quite fast. Prompto can be heard making various pop culture references and at times breaking the fourth wall to comment on different aspects of his journey.
Following his hyperactivity he has a tendency to move a lot and be dramatic in certain situations. When it comes to his fears like: claustrophobia, acrophobia and his hatred of bugs he will often become extremely vocal and dramatic . On the positive side of this, he loves chocobos and his friends and will do anything to see them smile. His kind personality has lead him to want to please others rather than himself but ultimately he has learned to accept what he is and his unwavering loyalty to his friends.
What he lacks in combat strength he makes up for in personality trying to keep morale high. His outgoing personality hides a scared man who is terrified of revealing the truth of himself believing those who he calls family will abandon him. A calculated thinker, Prompto strives to prove himself and be viewed as an equal ; someone on the same playing field as his dear friend Noctis. Through the ten years that Noctis was away, Prompto’s personality has only minorly changed; where he had matured to a point of being able to be independent in his fights, though his goofball persona has never wavered.
Prompto has been described by his friends as a technofile and loves all things photography related. He dreams of one day becoming a professional. Prompto loves to document things going around him. His subject matter always changing from his friends, the people they meet and the monsters they encounter, he captures it all using it as a way to relive the memories from their travels and to induce laughter.
Some people are born from compassion; two people who are willing to expand their legacy and protect those they call children. Unfortunately for Prompto he was created from shear lust for power and destruction. Prompto was created as a clone of Verstael Besithia, the leading magitek engineer of rival nation of Niflheim who sought to create a Daemonfied army to crumble the kingdom of Lucius. Using his own genetic code Prompto was born from these experiments and branded with a Barcode and identification MT number 05953234. Before Prompto was subjected to the daemonification when he was a baby , he was kidnapped by an unnamed Lucian spy and brought to the crown city where at the tender age of one was he adopted by a commoner family; the Argentum’s.
With the Empire and Lucius at a constant state of conflict Prompto began wearing a wristband to conceal the codeprint along his wrist so that others would not question his true identity, even though he himself did not know the true extent of his history.
At 12-years old, Prompto was a overweight boy who lead an isolated and independent life who never saw his parents. Since he had no friends he found solace in taking photos as well as eating an excessive amount of junk food. While outside one day, he came across a puppy who had an injured leg. After treating the pup it was later discovered to be Pryna; Lady Lunafreya’s trusted companion. She discovered Prompto’s existence when Pryna returned home with a handkerchief wrapped around it’s wound with his name on it. Soon after these events, Prompto received a letter from Lady Luna both thanking him for taking care of Pryna, and requesting him to befriend Prince Noctis who was enrolled at the same school as him. The day he worked up the courage to approach Noctis he tumbled and with the help of the prince got back up on his feet , but not without Noct pointing out he was ‘heavy’ thus prompting the young boy to lose weight before attempting to befriend the prince once again.
While changing his eating habits and working out he began to take progression shots of himself in order to record his transformation; some believing that this is what influenced his selfie habit. With renewed confidence, a newly transformed Prompto at the age of 15, approached the prince once again pretending to have never met him before hoping for the chance to give a better impression this time; unbeknownst to him Noctis knew who he was and the two quickly became best friends.
At age 20, Prompto was graced with the responsibility of being part of the crownsguard in the transportation of Noctis to Altissia to wed Lunafreya who Prompto had yet to formally meet. For some time in order to prepare for the upcoming journey, he had requested training from Crownsguard veterans. After receiving this duty to be a defender of Noctis, his training focused more on self defense and firearms since he physically was weaker than the others. To his surprise, Prompto was allowed inside the palace and witnessed King Regis send him and the others off on a successful journey.
Upon leaving the citadel the party’s car comes to a halt and after pushing it to a nearby service station do they meet Cid; a mechanic who is old friends with Noctis’ father ; and his granddaughter Cindy who Prompto is instantly smitten with. After the car’s repairs and the troupe arrives in Galdan Quay, they discover that the ferry for Altissa is nowhere to be seen and the crown city has been attacked leading them to believe both King Regis and Lady Luna have perished. In order to find answers, the group meets up with Cor Leonis, the marshall of the crownsguard, who takes the team to a royal tomb where Noctis is blessed with the first royal arm of past lucian kings to take back their home.
During this, the team splits up in hopes to regain access to Insomnia, but ultimately fail due to the large presence of the empire. Thus leading them to find the refugees who escaped before its demise; one of which is Gladio’s sister Iris.
When the Archean known as Titan begins to invade Noct’s thoughts , the group is approached by a mysterious man known only as Ardyn Izunia who Prompto immediately notes as creepy and untrustworthy. Although he remains suspicious, with no other choices they approach the Disc of Cauthuss to hopefully receive answers to Noct’s ailment. In an attempt to reach the Archean; Both Prompto and Ignis are separated from Noct and Gladio and must find their own way to aid their friends in combat. After a lengthy battle, Noct receives the blessing of Titan and the four escape with the help of Ardyn once more.
After obtaining the the second Archean Ramuh and discovering the death of Talcott’s grandfather Jared; a royal butler to the royal family, their adventure continues. Noctis and the others dedicate themselves so no more of Insomnia citizens need to die on their behalf and race to find a way to Altissia. Needing alternate means of traveling across the sea, they discover the royal vessel belonging to King Regis, hidden within cape caem, but it is in need of desperate repairs and a material only known as Mythril. Upon discovering this, Gladio leaves the group temporary from their journey and they are once again reunited with Aranea Highwind; a woman who they fought before and believed her to be part of the empire as well as another woman who was made Prompto infatuated. Through their adventure together he questions her on if she has ever considered leaving the empire due to their irrational use of Daemons as soldiers. After obtaining the materials Noct, Ignis and Prompto go back to Lestallam to refine the ore where they once again meet up with a newly scarred Gladio.
After the royal vessel is equipped with the mythril, the team sets off to Altissia to find Lady Luna and awake the Astral known as Leviathan. Prompto, Ignis and Gladio are sent out to evacuate the citizens while Noctis prepares to receive the blessing from the Archean. As predicted, Nifilheim attacks leviathan and in order to ensure Noctis’ safe arrival to the Astral, Prompto procures a magitek craft and takes him there. After a debilitating battle, Titan is summoned and is seen protecting Noctis and Lady Luna from Magitek carriers, thus prompting the trio to race to aid their prince. On the way, Ignis is separated from Gladio and Prompto for sometime until the two make their way to the altar of the tidemother when a devastating revelation is given to them. Upon approach, Gladio and Prompto discover a unconscious Noctis and a near death Ignis who is now blind. Over the course of a few days, Prompto stays readily at Ignis’ side to aid him in any way possible, guiding him when necessary. Once Noctis wakes up, and discovers the death of Lady Luna it takes an emotional toll on him which Prompto tries to approach him and give Noct his condolences, but Gladio stops him.
En Route to Cartanica; another location of a royal tomb, tensions rise as the four try to make sense of the situation they are in. Prompto trying to be there for all of his friends, gets in the middle of an argument Gladio and Noct have, resulting in him getting pushed to the side. Once off the train the troupe descends into the dungeon of Fodina Caestino, in hopes of obtaining another instrument to reclaiming their home. Throughout this, Prompto hangs back with Ignis, aiding him when he falls and sticking by his side in battle until conflict arises once again within the group of friends. Ignis, who tires of the constant bickering of Gladio and Noct explains to them that he has accepted the fate of his unreturning eyesight and wishes for them to regain clarity on the reason why they are traveling. Ignis later states that he will never leave the groups side and with unwavering devotion to them is willing to die for them. Prompto with newfound courage backs Ignis up on his claims and continues to support him in anyway possible.
After obtaining the katana of the warrior and enroute to Tenebrae, the train is attacked by Nifilhiem troops. Noctis and Prompto ward off the imperials from their train, but later Noctis is approached by Ardyn who has Prompto at gunpoint. Ardyn once again switches places with Prompto aboard the top of the train and tricks Noct into pushing Prompto over the edge. Several days later Prompto has begun to traverse the snowfields of Nifilhiem alone in a quest to find safety.
On the brink of death due to the snowstorm, he is discovered by Magitek troops and brought to a magitek research facility where Prompto awakes and is greeted by Ardyn who returns his hand gun to him. Ardyn urges Prompto to meet with his creator and reveals to Prompto that he was born in the magitek facility they are standing in. Denying any of it as truth , Prompto wades his way through the compound in hopes to escape. When approached with a locked door, he is unsure of how to proceed but it is revealed to him that the barcode hiding under his clothing activated by a nearby scanner allowing him to proceed. Throughout the magitek facility he discovers research notes and audio logs from a man known as Verstael Besithia; the leading imperial magitek researcher who explains that MT’s are daemonified human clones. Through additional excripts, Prompto discovers that Besithia’s perfected plan was to use his own D.N.A and create infants and inject them with daemonification. When Prompto discovers dormant clones in their tubes, he is struck with an overwhelming amount of dread when he notices they look like him and contain the same barcode as him.
When Prompto confronts Verstael who is in the midst of a daemonic transformation, Ardyn comments on the loving father-son reunion. Terrified from this realization, Prompto shoots and kills Verstael. Upon his death, Prompto seeks freedom from the facility and meets up with none other than Aranea , who has infiltrated the base in hopes to discovering the truth on Verstael Besithia’s newest project. The duo escapes only after Aranea tells Prompto to take a snowmobile and meet up with her later at a rendezvous point. When Prompto reaches it and makes camp he loses his conviction and confidence of who he truly is. Aranea urges Prompto to return to his friends, but he hesitates knowing what he is and understands he is the being Noctis wishes to eradicate from this world. His fear that this realization will cause Noctis and the others to turn their back on him. Aranea insists that the origins of himself do not matter, but that he must decide for once in his life what he truly wants.
The next day, an alone Prompto traverses the forest and falls upon a heavily injured Magitek troop. He ends its life and empathises with it, imagining a situation where he himself is an MT and Noct is hunting him down. He remembers when he was a child living in Lucius how he was alone and kept his limited knowledge of his origin a secret, causing him to have no friends. The illusions continue to a hillside where Pryna assists Prompto who has a life changing decision to make. Finally believing Aranea’s words he decides his own path in life and with renewed vigor he meets up with her again in hopes of taking down the beasts Verstael has created. Together they infiltrate another snow covered base and defeat one of Verstael Besithia’s experiments Barbaru; a mammal who was fused with magitek.
After the battle it is discovered that Immortalias, the magitek monster who now holds Verstael’s consciousness has awoken. Aranea rides with Prompto and the duo uses a machine gun- snowmobile combo to take down Verstael’s before he can bring destruction upon the world. After defeating it, Prompto’s new resolve inspires him to set off to Gralea to meet up with Noctis and the others and tell them the truth about himself. As he parts ways with Aranea, Ardyn recaptures Prompto and imprisons him inside of Zegnautus Keep in hopes to luring Noctis to him.
The party rescues Prompto and Noctis immediately apologizes for falling into the Chancellors trap and knocking him off the train. Prompto forgives him, but still worries about the looming truth he is about to tell his friends. When approaching the locked throne room where Noct’s powers are sealed within, Prompto reveals his code print and assists his friends, thus exposing what he is. Afraid of their reactions, Prompto struggles with his explanation, expecting them to abandon him but in turn they readily accept him.
After Noctis is sealed inside the crystal, Eos is consumed in everlasting darkness with Daemons at every turn. Prompto, Ignis and Gladiolus return to Lucis awaiting the prophesied day of when the King of Light returns to banish the darkness. Prompto spends much of his time training with members of the Kingsglaive to better adapt himself to become more independent, a huge contrast to the man he once was. Eventually he does becomes a skilled hunter able to fight daemons alone and finds new purpose in helping refugees.
Noctis returns after a 10 year slumber and reunites with his friends. Prompto is overjoyed knowing his best friend has returned and eagerly discusses with him how the world has changed and the members of the Kingsglaive who lost their lives serving the royal family. Prompto’s positive and upbeat attitude has not changed since his last encounter with Noctis and it feels as if they picked up where they last left off. After a final emotional meal, they head to the ruins of Insomnia to reclaim what was once theirs. Even though Prompto has discovered the fate of his best friend, that he must sacrifice himself to save the world, Prompto tries his best to remain cheerful.
When the Prince and his friends return to Insomnia after clearing it of Daemons, the four approach the throne room where Noctis stops Prompto and requests to take a photo with him to the very end. The four reminisce over all that they have accomplished and once the decision is made Noctis’ offers his friends one final goodbye, the words “walk tall my friends” resonating with each of them. As he ascends to the final battle to offer his soul to save the world, Daemons appear from the ground below and Prompto, Ignis and Gladio fight for their lives in order to protect their kind and his legacy. With Noctis’ destiny fulfilled the world is cleansed from the starscourge; Ardyn’s soul is finally put to rest and the sun rises once again. To honor their kings request Prompto survives, hoping to return the world to what it once was...or so he hoped…..
"I want to ride my Chocobo all day.."
"Hmmm..It's Nice not to have to kill anything..."
"We're in the money..We're in the Money..."
"My hair does NOT look like a chocobo butt!"
"Behind all the quips and laughs, I'm a mess of hangups..."
"Every moment, I'm desperate to earn my place"
Today was the day; the day he would go out and capture the perfect shots of everyone. He stood there bouncing on the balls of his feet with a smile plastered on his face. Had it been mere weeks or was it months since he had to say goodbye to Noct? His best friend in the whole world...gone; but he wouldn't let that change who he was now.To him the best way to grieve was to be around the ones he cared about the most...even if one of the people he cared about the most was only here in spirit. It had started rough, trying to hide behind his permanent smile, but with time he knew Gladio, Iggy and the others were hit just as hard as him. That's when the brilliant idea popped into his head and he did the one thing he knew that would make them smile.
His camera was gripped tightly in his hands as he began to prance around Insomnia ready to capture those perfect photos. Of course... he would have to get those embarrassing shots of Gladio failing at picking up debris AND girls or even a great shot of Iggy drinking his ebony? He for sure had to get a few selfies in there. In typical fashion, he swept around in circles making audible sound effects at the beautiful sights around him. Even those their home was in shambles, it was recovering fast. The people had come together to revive their kingdom and Prompto couldn't be any happier. The sun was high in the sky and life was looking great.
Shot after shot, Prompto ran around the city capturing the perfect moments of everyone working together, as well as a few of just the beautiful city before him. A few shots of dare i say a budding romance between two Glaives? Or the shots of Cor looking proudly at the city before him; Either way it was all perfect.
“Still looks like a Behemoth had temper tantrum here BUT ahhh...It’s home” His camera clicked a few more times, waving goodbye to his subject matter each and every time. After a while he decided to find a comfortable spot where he sat under a light post; his back facing the citadel.
“Let’s see the goods--Ah! There’s dirt on my baby!” He announced to himself as he wiped a smudge of dirt off with his gloved hand.
When the camera lit up ready for him to review his latest work, he let out a light gasp as he stared intently at his photographs. The pictures were beautiful...but something caught him off guard. In a few of the selfies he took he noticed that there was some kind of strange black creature in the background. Had it been a...shadow? Or even some of the local fauna? But, none of that made any sense. As he scrolled through more of his photographs the partial shadow appeared to move closer in frame. The first few times it looked like shade from a plant or something, but now it had mass...and shape.
“Whoa..this is straight out of a horror movie!” He exclaimed to himself as he hopped up on his feet, his knees bent slightly. A bead of nervous sweat rolled down his cheek.
“But...nahhh it's nothing” He dismissed as he lowered his camera letting it hang loosely in his left hand. Letting out a relieved sigh he faced the citadel when he spotted something. In the window a few floors below the throne room he saw a figure dart away from the window.
His feet started to move on their own as he raced towards the castle but after a moment he stopped.
“Whoa! whoa! whoa! there Prompto! This is EXACTLY what happens to one of the main characters in a horror movie! They follow something spooky then... BAM!! Dead!!” he rationalized to himself as he paced back and forth trying to finalize his decision on what to do. Though it definitely was something that would happen in a movie it wouldn't happen in real life...right? He was just paranoid and should NOT have stayed up as late as he did last night playing King's Knight. He sighed and then at that very moment a thought clicked into Prompto’s head. The photographs. He slowly lifted his camera up and turned it around so that the lens was facing him. If something was really there it would show up again...right? He smiled lifting up the camera to the perfect angle for a selfie. Throwing his other hand out into a peace sign, the flash went off and then he turned his camera back around nervously chuckling.
“Nothing's gonna be there...oh Nothing at all…” He sang to himself waiting for the camera to load. Then it finally did.
“See Prompto nothing to---” He gasped loudly followed by a scream. “WHAT THE HECK IS THAT THING!!!”
