♟♟ "Is this the darkness that is within me? Has the power within my heart finally been unlocked? |
It was a rather warm day in Traverse Town, a gentle breeze could be felt through the air. Everything seemed peaceful as usual, no holidays happening, or anything else in particular. Serenity at it's finest.
Nick was on his way back from the Third District, holding two paper shopping bags in his right and left hands. One bag contained tea kettles and containers of grounded tea, with the other having ingredients for a chocolate cake that his mother planned on making for desert. The young man always enjoyed a freshly baked chocolate cake every now and then.
"Alright, I've got everything that mom told me to buy, I just have to be careful with the tea kettles, she'd be upset if they were broken before I got back," said Nick. He was kind of struggling to carry the bags, since they were a little heavy, but that didn't completely hinder him. While he carried these bags, he was thinking of what else he could do today, but nothing really popped up in his mind.

Chronos was visiting Traverse Town today to get some things for his travels. He had learned pretty fast that Traverse Town was one of the main worlds to go to, should you need things to aid you, like potions and weaponry. Visitors from other worlds were nothing new to this world, so he could also get some information there, should he look for a new job. He was walking down the street close to the shop-area, tail wagging behind him and ears twitching. Chronos knew he easily burned through potions, so buying some new ones never was a bad decision. He also wanted to check if the weapon-shop had any new parts he could use to build something for combat. Chronos had thought about modifying the Haurchefant for a while now, but Cid always told him not to go to wild on his weaponry. It usually ended up in pieces and this gun was his baby, so he had to be EEEEXTRA careful. Also, getting magitec projectiles somewhere was almost impossible outside of Eozea. He was just walking down the stairs, when he saw a young man somewhere in front of him, seeming to have problems carrying those bags. Well, that stuff looked pretty heavy... Chronos surely could help him out there! There was nothing he could burn or make explode so surely nothing could go wrong with this. Chronos also had this strange feeling that he was losing more money to fixing things he accidentally blows up while fighting, than what he loses for food... He smirked, walking over to the kid, waving him. “Hey there!”, he would make his presence known, hoping to get the boys attention. “You need some help with that? Don't want to drop those.. eh.. kettles, yes?”Nick Laruzo

Nick stopped walking for a moment, and gently placed the shopping bags on the ground. He faced the direction of of where he was being spoken to, and waved back in return. The gentleman speaking to him sounded quite friendly, even though he hadn't seen him before.
"Hey there, I actually could use a little help with carrying one of these bags please. The tea kettles are for my mother, she had me go out to the Third District to buy a few more, since she accidentally broke the last ones while making tea for my father," said Nick as he picked up the shopping back containing the ingredients for Chocolate Cake, and let the gentleman carry the other bag.
"By the way, my name is Nick Laruzo, but you can call me Nick," He said to him. He waited for the gentleman to pick up the bag that contained the tea kettles, and grounded tea bags. He was quite surprised to encounter someone, since he thought that it'd be another regular day.

To his suprise, the boy was very friendly, seeming happy to get some help, even though he was a stranger. Wasn't he worried he might try to steal those things? This young man was also very open about his life how it seems, immediately sharing details about what the kettles are for. Chronos blinked. “Oh, well at least you got new ones.”
Chronos took the bags the boy gave to him and checked the weight for a moment. Yeah, that's definitely to much for the just one kid to carry, but he was most likely on his own. Chronos knew that the people in Traverse were always in danger of Heartless attacks. Though, as he listened to the kid, he found that he was not one of those that lost their family. Damn, he was lucky. The kid also introduced himself, Chronos ears moving slightly. “Nick, huh? You can call me Chronos, or Chro for short, if you like.”
He looked at the bags in his hands once more, before he would smile at the kid again. “Lead the way, than. I am not so good with orientation when it comes to this town. I am mostly at the shopping district and leave again after I got what I need.”
Chronos seemed to think for a moment before his tail moved up. “Oh, aren't you afraid of getting attacked by those heartless, going shopping all by yourself? Heard they are pretty nasty around here. You should at least have something to protect yourself with you, you know? Some advice from a guy knowing what he talks about, yeah?”

♟♟ "Is this the darkness that is within me? Has the power within my heart finally been unlocked? |
"Nice to meet you, Chronos. I shall lead the way." said Nick as he began to walk ahead, so that he could show the way to his home in Traverse Town. While they walked, he heard Chronos ask him a question relating to the Heartless. He had never heard anyone ask him something like that, so he thought about how he'd answer it for a moment. Once he had one, he'd respond with his answer. He wasn't sure how Chronos would respond to it.
"The Heartless? No need to worry, I have a way to deal with any of those dark creatures. I can use the power of darkness that I have within me, to help deal with them, including my Dark Gauntlet that I use. It seems that wearing it allows me to use any attacks that involve using darkness itself. I discovered this power many months ago, when I was on a long journey to save my mother and father. I'll tell you about it when I get to my house," He said to him as he kept walking. While he walked, he thought about the long journey he went through to save his mother and father, and all the clues he had to find in order to finally locate them. He also hadn't forgotten about the first time he had encountered the heartless. He also had another thought on his mind.
"Hmm, should I tell him about the strange dreams I had as a kid? Maybe I'll wait on that... " thought Nick as he kept walking. As he walked, he saw some friendly civilians waving to him, regular locals of this town, so he waved back and went on his way.
"Hey Nick! Is your mother making more chocolate cake?!" a local shouted to him.
"Yeah! She asked me to pick up ingredients for it, I am on my way home to deliver them," He said to the civilian as he went past them.
"That's great, I love your mother's chocolate cake!" the civilian said to him. When his mother made any deserts, she always shared them with everyone in Traverse Town. Even the poor people got a slice.

Chronos ears twitched and he continued to smirk, carrying the bags and following Nick quietly for a while. He listened to what the boy had to tell him, the man seeming to think about it for a moment. So this boy could use the darkness as a weapon? He wasn't sure what to think about this information, honestly. As a man chosen by Hydaelin he always felt a stronger connection to the light than the darkness. He knew both could be used for good, if you can control it, but darkness was always known to be more difficult to handle. “Ah, I see.”
Chronos was snapped out of his thoughts by the sudden shout of a random person nearby, the cat's tail puffing up slightly in response as he turned around for a moment. Chocolate cake? Huh, seemed the boys family was known for good pastry. To be honest, he also would love a slice of cake right now, his mouth watering a little at the thought. “Well, your Mom's cake seems to be well known here in town. Must be really good.”
He wiggled his tail from left to right, tilting his head a little as he looked at the bag in his hands a little more closely. He loved to drink tea when he was still in Ishgard after having finished his work in the workshop, often accompanied with some Ishgarden pastry. Mhhh... the Ishgardens always knew how to make great tea. Well, tea was like the only thing that could keep them warm up there in the north. Oh, and hot chocolate of course. A sad smile appeared on his face now when he thought about the hot chocolate his friend used to make for them sometimes...

♟♟ "Is this the darkness that is within me? Has the power within my heart finally been unlocked? |
"It sure is. Even though my mom does sewing for a hobby, she makes really good deserts," said Nick as he kept walking. "I can taste the cake already."
After ten more minutes of walking, they finally arrive at Nick's house. His mother Daria was waiting for him outside, so that she could take the groceries in, when they arrived. She was curious about Chronos being with him, since she wasn't familiar the individual, nor had she seen anyone around like that.
"Welcome home son, did you make a new friend while you were out shopping?" His mother asked him.
"This stranger decided to help me carry the groceries home, this is Chronos," said Nick.
"That was very nice of you, to help my son carry the grocceries," She said to Chronos. Afterwards, she'd take in the grocceries, and put them on the kitchen counter, so she could sort them out. She liked the new tea kettles that her son bought, they were light green with a gold lining on the bottom. "I'll make some tea in just a few minutes, once I get the ingredients for the cake sorted. I'll make sure not to break these tea kettles."
"Thanks Mom," He said to his mother as he sat at the dining room table, he invited Chronos to come sit with him, saying "Come sit with me at the dining room table."

Chronos followed the young man back to his home and was greeted by Nicks mother. It seemed like Nick was good at making friends with strangers and often brought some home with him.. Or maybe Chronos was thinking to much of it. He greeted the mother with a nod of his head and a smile and placed everything on a table, before Daria already offered them tea.
“Hey, no stress. And helping is my job. It wasn’t a big deal.”
When Nick offered him a seat, he would sot down, tail curling around his waist slightly. He took of his googles and put them into his pocket for now. “well, it’s good to see that the people are still comfortable here. The town folk is not easily discouraged.” He shook his head, putting on a smile than. “Eh, never mind. So, you are helping your parents out a lot? That’s neat. Do you have schools here, or are you more practical? I never had the chance to really talk to someone that lives here. Usually I only come here for small visits and get some things.” A moment of silence and his ears would flick. “Actually.. I ONLY come here to get things and leave… . Huh. This might be the longest time I am here now for normal conversation. Maan I am stiff.”, he noticed a loud, counting on his hand now how often he had been here already, before he would look up to the kid again. “Oh, spaced out, sorry.” He scratched his neck, turning a soft shade of red. “I eh.. Usually don’t sit still that much. Sorry if I blabber to much.”

♟♟ "Is this the darkness that is within me? Has the power within my heart finally been unlocked? |
"That's alright, its no problem. And schools? I am not sure there are any schools here, my parents taught me everything at home." said Nick as his mother began making hot tea for the two of them, after she had finished sorting the ingredients for the Chocolate Cake. She got out some crushed tea, and started boiling a pot of water for the tea. While she waited for it to boil, she inserted the crushed tea into the green kettle she was going to use.
"Anyways, allow me to tell you the story about my long journey, to find and save my parents. It all started more than a couple months ago. For a while, my parents were on vacation, but promised to come back in three months, in a letter they wrote to me. They never followed up with that promise, so I wondered when they'd return. I've kept the letter for quite a while now. On one particular day, something had happened when I was about to go for a walk, and it occurred so suddenly. I was attacked by some creatures, which I now know were the heartless. Their bodies were so odd looking, and they were purple and black with yellow eyes. They were swarming around me, and I tried to punch them. Some even tried to pile onto me, and I did my best to shove them off. I don't know the identity of whomever sent those creatures to attack me, but I got a slight glimpse at them. It was some young individual with a dark helmet that covered their face," said Nick as he took a moment to catch his breath. As Nick was about to move onto the next part of his story, he saw that his mother had finished making the tea, and got out two grey tea cups to pour the tea into. She then walked up to the table, and put down two cups of tea in front of Chronos and Nick.
"There you go, enjoy your tea," said Daria.
"Thank you," said Nick as he took a small sip of his tea, before going back to his story.

Well, Chronos had not expected to actually get a real answer to his question about schools. It would have surprised him more if they actually had schools here in this town. Being home-taught is much safer than having your child go outside with all these heartless hiding in the town. Chronos leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms. “Ah, I see.”
Chronos tilted his head slightly than, looking at the boy with perked ears. The story he told him was actually pretty interesting to hear. So he had looked for his parents, after they didn't come back? He was attacked by heartless and Nick could describe the one that send them out a little. A dark helmet? Didn't ring a bell, but he should keep this in mind... This sounds rather important. Maybe he should keep an eye out for someone like this on his journeys. Maybe he is connected to the source of the Heartless in way. It was just a small hint, but it was definitely something he could work with. He was about to say something, when Nick's mother entered the room with tea, the man giving her a polite smile before he took the cup. “Oh, thank you!”
He took a sip of his tea, seeming to take a moment and analyze the taste, before deciding that he liked it. He took an other sip and put the cup down again. “So how did you get out of that one? I assume these powers you were talking about came in here?”Nick Laruzo

♟♟ "Is this the darkness that is within me? Has the power within my heart finally been unlocked? |
"Actually, I was able to escape, thanks to someone else coming and battling this individual that attacked me. It gave me the opportunity to run to safety, and I used it to hide away in a hotel in the Second District. Afterwards, I encountered some young lady named Stella, I think. She asked me to come along with her, and I followed up on it. It was a good option at the time, since I wanted to get away from the chaos. My power didn't come until later on in my journey." said Nick as he took another sip of his tea. His mother got out a mixing bowl, and cracked some eggs into it. She then added a small cup of milk and mixed it up. She'd listen to her son tell the tale of his journey, and how it all began. She regret not being able to return home in time, but her son forgave her. Just as she was about to mix in the butter, her husband Derrick entered the house.
"Hey son, I am home. I just delivered the last package for my shift today," said Derrick. "It seems we have a new visitor." Nick turned to his dad, as he sipped his tea.
"Hey father, this is Chronos. He helped me bring home the groceries today," Nick said to him.
"A pleasure to meet you, Chronos. I am Derrick, Nick's father," He said to Chronos as he introduced himself. "What are you up to, son?"
"Oh, I was just telling Chronos the story of my journey that occurred months ago," said Nick.
"Ah, that story. I wouldn't mind listening to it again," He said to his son, as he took a seat at the dining room table, after taking off his postman hat.
"Let's see, where was I in my story... Ah yes, that's right! After being taken to this coffee shop by this young lady, an old gentleman by the name Seito, recognized me by my father's name on the letter I'd been holding onto. From there, he took me up to a room in the shop, and gave me a magical rock that allowed me to travel to other worlds. He told me to use it to find my parents," said Nick as he took another sip of his tea, before continuing further on with his story.

Chronos continued to take some sips as Nick continued on his story, the cat-man nodding here and than, listening with interest. He could tell this was going to be quite the story. His ears twitched a few times when he heard the sound of a cake being made in the other room, but tried to focus on Nick for now, ignoring his sudden craving for this chocolate cake. So his guess had not been correct. Eh, happens to the best. Nick's story time was interrupted however, when someone entered the house, Chronos immediately being introduced to the man that was Nick's father Derrick. Oh yeah, he was delivering mail in town, right. Chronos nodded at the man, giving him a small wave of his free hand. “Howdy.”The man settled down at the table and listened to Nick's story with him now. Magical Teleport-Rock? Neat stuff. Chronos would rather use his ship thought.. aaah, he loved his ship. Garlond design is the best design in his opinion. Stay to your roots! He look at his empty cup, blinking a few times before he would look back at the kid. “Well going on a search to find your parents all by yourself within the stars sounds rather... scary.” He refilled his cup with the kettle and smelled the tea fresh tea for a moment. “It seemed to have worked in your favor, kid. But remember that not everyone is so lucky. You should be more careful, you know?”The Mi'qote sighed and drank an other sip of his tea. “Eh, ah, sorry about that. Can't keep my life advice to myself sometimes. Sooo, how did you find them?”Chronos was getting sidetracked waaay to easily, he thought to himself, but he just couldn't help but worry about the kid. He sounded a little naiv in his ears and that could easily get you killed. It's good the kid had been lucky till now, but that can always change. Also, Chronos was rather interested in the boy's magical strength. He could sense something within him that fit to the story he told, but he had no idea how much control he had over it. Nick Laruzo

♟♟ "Is this the darkness that is within me? Has the power within my heart finally been unlocked? |
"Not a problem, but perhaps that's a true point." said Nick as he continued on with his story, taking another sip of his tea. "How I found them was through clues that I found in the original letter I kept. Some colored letters in the letter spelled out certain abbreviations, and I believed they were locations relating to places that they've been to. Every abbreviation I spoke to the magical rock, brought me to where I needed to be. I went to each place, starting with a place called Olympus, then moving onto Agrabah. The Dwarf Woodlands was the third and final place where I found one final clue relating to the location of my parents. Along the way, I met many people who've helped me out, and I am grateful for them being able to help me out in one way or another. When it came down to the Woodlands, I came across this particular item... the Dark Gauntlet. It was in some chest that some fellow strangers helped me unlock. Later on, I learned that it seemed to help channel my power, not entirely sure how though." He took a sip of his tea as his mother continued to make the chocolate cake.
She was just about done making the main mixture as she put some chocolate filling mix into the bowl. Nick remembered those who helped him along the way: An Former Emperor of an Incan Empire, Varian, and two twins that went by the name of Parom and Palom, including a young gentleman with white hair that had a keyblade, he never got his name though. Even though it had been many months ago, he could still remember those who he met, even if he wasn't going to possibly see them again.
"Now, the final clue that I picked up in the Woodlands lead me to one last location, a place known as The World That Never Was. It was quite a dark place compared to where I've explored." He said to Chronos as he took a breath before moving onto the last part of his story. It was quite a long one to tell, but it was how he remembered it.

The mi'qote kept on listening, eyes closing as he took an other sip. As the kid started to talk about the journey and the world’s he visited, Chronos echo would kick in, showing him scenes of Nicks new friends he had met and how the world’s looked through his eyes. The sandy plains from Agrabar that stretched so far it almost reminded him of Uldar deserts. The giants trees of the jungle and all the different shapes and colors if the flora and fauna. The smell of fresh flowers that would be carried over the lands of the Dwarfs.
It felt like he had been there himself for a moment and Chronos almost felt jealous, it was until the last world was mentioned… cold walls, buildings that reached into the sky and no sun to warm you. Just darkness … a place that could fit into the void from his home. All the other worlds felt so alive and real, but this one felt like it was dead… abandoned. It made Chronos fur stand up.
He opened his eyes again, the echo having passed now and leaving him a bit disoriented for a moment. The man sighed slightly, blindly fishing for the cup and took a big sip of it once he got it in his hands.
He mumbled something to himself and looked back to the kid again, acting like everything was normal.
“Ah, we are getting to the juice parts now. Go on.”

♟♟ "Is this the darkness that is within me? Has the power within my heart finally been unlocked? |
"When I got to this dark world, the magical rock I used had turned to dust. I was quite horrified, but I didn't let that stop that from finding my father and mother. So, I began my search. Eventually, I heard something in the distance, voices. I believed they were my parents, and so I went to the source of the noise, only to be surrounded by the heartless. There was about twenty three of them surrounding them. I told them if they were coming to attack to me, to just go ahead and throw themselves at me, that I'd do my best to knock them down. They did just that, relentless throwing themselves at me. It eventually got to a point where they were pinning me down," said Nick as he took another sip of his tea, he was nearly finished with his cup. "I did my best to try and shove them off, but they wouldn't budge. That's when I got a feeling... A cold and painful feeling in my right hand. Then, I clenched my right hand into a fist, and forced to hit one of those creatures. Upon contact, I created a small explosion that blew em away. Upon getting up, I noticed that there was a dark-purple glow around my right hand, where I was wearing my gauntlet. I asked myself if this was the darkness that was within me, and if the power within my heart been unlocked. Even with that question in mind, the battle was far from over."
"While that was happening, me and my wife were trapped in some dark cage of sorts. Those creatures had us trapped." said Derrick. His wife gave him a cup of tea, and resumed on making the Chocolate Cake in the kitchen. He took a sip of his tea.
"It was simply horrible being trapped inside a cramped space..." said Daria as she finished mixing the ingredients, and put the mixture into a square baking pan. Nick took a breath before he would continue on with his story, and he then finished up the rest of his hot tea. Even after the battle with the heartless, he could still remember how they looked in appearance. They were in knights armor, or something akin to such.
