| Sorry? Why, I've never had this much fun. | |
Rufus had always been the sort to take his travels across these world's in stride. It was new and still unnerving, but if he was going to expand his influence and Planer's power he had to take full advantage of the prime real estate. He had arrived in Twilight Town and learned of this Old Mansion located deep on the edges of the city's limits. It had once belonged to a doctor, or a scientist, there was not one story for the origins of its construction. But its most recent rumors, straight from the mouths of locals, was a curious take of intrigue that, well, was disturbing in its own right. Perhaps it was because it reminded Rufus of the stories he heard of Hojo's atrocities in Nibel Manor. The stories professed that the defunct mansion belonged to an aging gillionaire and his daughter. The home had been decorated with trophies and figurines of foreign world's and adventures, but what stood out to many was that the old scientist had never been seen leaving or entering the abode. No one knew when the mansion had emptied. They had said the spirits still haunt the grounds. His daughter can still be seen peering out from the window on the top floor, lamenting the loneliness...
The man would snort. "Nonsense." Rufus had found himself sitting on a bench awaiting the estate agent to whom would attempt to sell the land to him. "They spoke the same madness of the Nibel Manor." Dark Nation was curled at his feet, the massive black-furred beast keeping at Bay the curious. The aura of confidence he gave off was exemplified by his ostentatious clothing of white and black, contrasting against blonde hair and pale skin. The man lived an easy life and he sat there, like a king on holiday: his presence on the world a show of grandeur. He sat with legs crossed, loose slacks ruffling in his movements. He tapped on his phone, pestering the Turks who, he had hoped, set off on the mission he lay before them. He wanted this world explored and if there were any that could threaten his expansion . . . Well he wanted them handled. "As if such a thing would occur. Nothing but memories of the Lifestream." Though even that seemed a touch mad. The Lifestream did not reach this far, so what dreams haunted those halls, he wondered. This world had quite a lovely sunset. It reminded him of Costa del Sol. Those were hard memories to shake, but if he was to judge this world he needed to explore it on his own. Moving to stand the ferocious hound pushed to its claws. The shifting tentacle protruding from the back of its skull would pulse at the tip, the vampiric limb as much a weapon as its fangs. Parting its jaws Dark Nation panted, Rufus reaching down to path their head."Shall we discover the secrets of this world?" Power was what Rufus sought. His heart was full of pride and ego full of dreams, though he did not shy away from the Gil in his pocket. "If they won't speak willingly we shall see how they do being convinced."But with the arrival of a heart as foreign as Rufus' so did the Heartless gather. In the Old Mansion a shadow stride the halls in search of that memory it could not reach. It was reminiscent of a young woman, a cackle like a banshee as it flew from the top window and into the shadows.▲ 590 ● Lauriam● A Venture into the Sunset

I am coming for you. Please wait for me.
Lauriam visited Twillight Town to take a look around and check the current situation of the world. His mission was important, of course, but having met Namine in Traverse Town had reminded him of what he had been told about Ansem the Wise by Xehanort. Ansem the Wise was a very smart man and had even been able to create people as Data and even import a whole being into a data world. It sounded crazy to him, but this man's knowledge was even greater than that of the Chilly Academic. Ansem the Wise had been the Mentor of many over half the organization and he wasn't sure if it was good that he was back in Radiant Garden or not. Whatever the case, knowing the man was such a smart individual, he might have something of importance for his mission on one of his computers. There was one in Radiant Garden he knew about and, of course, one in Twilight Town, which had been his base of operation for a year or so. If the computer was still there, he might be able to get some important information about the war or other keybladers from it. He had just entered the forest close to the mansion when a strange uneasiness befell him the second he stepped out of the portal and on the ground of this world. Something wasn't right...
The forest was quiet, only a soft gust of wind blowing through the branches. There was no animal to be seen or heard, the man not moving an inch, after the portal had vanished behind him. He listened to the forest and what it tried to tell him. There was something here, that was causing the whole flora and fauna to hold it's breath, like it was scared. He knew what it meant. It was a sign of approaching death, something he was more than familiar with. In that moment, he heard something echo through the forest. The sound pierced his ears, making him flinch. It was a high-pitched scream that made his blood freeze in his veins. His eyes caught movement in the air, a dark shadow flying past him in the distance and aiming for where the mansion should be. Lauriam was certain that this was a heartless, but he had never felt such a presence before. It was a type he didn't know and feeling the energy it was radiating, it was obviously a strong one. And seeing it was being called by something, Lauriam knew exactly what was going on. This was a heartless having sensed a big meal nearby. Someone was inside of the mansion and they were in great danger!
Lauriam didn't know how aggressive this type was, but if he didn't act now, the poor soul it was aiming for might not be seeing an other day. He might not be able to catch up with it by running, so he took the risk and decided to teleport in the direction it was going for. Teleporting blindly wasn't very safe for the user, but Lauriam had to do something. Who knew how much time there might be left, before the Heartless would reach them. Taking a deep breath, he would let darkness engulf him and carry him away, his body reforming not far from Rufus, Lauriam stumbling the first steps from his jump through reality into the unknown, almost crashing into a nearby table. It took him a moment to come back to his senses completely after that gambling-action, the man looking up to see a man in white and a black dog-like creature in front of him. The man held himself in a manner that almost leaked arrogance and power and that animal seemed to be his loyal guard. He surely looked like he held a strong personality and heart, but that most likely won't be enough to protect him from the darkness. Lauriam had been faster than the strange heartless, but it was only a matter of time before it would show up in the mansion.
“So you are what it is after... you have to get out of here, right now!”

The dark hound padded along the executive’s side as they went ahead, with disregard to the estate dealer. He was late and Rufus was not one to sit around for others. They were on his time, courtesy and patience: ideal qualities that Rufus usually had very little of. The beast's long claws would scrape against the cobblestone as it sauntered along. With head low and red eyes glaring out from under strong brows its ferocity was never under question. With not a Turk in sight for miles one could abide the every day protection of the figurehead to the creature. That was not to say there wasn't a Turk somewhere that, all Rufus need do, is dial.
The air put out by the man and beast was something fiercely intimidating, especially in such a sleepy village that harbored few delinquents and fewer villainous commodities. It has always been a quiet town with no need of the dramas other worlds seemed to relish in. But little did the citizens know that, beneath their very noses, lay the twisted machinations of a man desperate to end suffering...
Rufus could be seen as a threat by many who knew nothing of his origins. Simply accounting for his taste in company and the way he held himself above others when he walk and spoke it could be seen as condescending. He had a great many reasons to see himself as their betters though, a mantle he did not brush off even in the face of calamity. He was a man and, as such, had a responsibility to his legacy. After all none wished to be forgotten.
The menacing beast did not diminish his presence despite his neutral position on this world. He had yet to decide what it could offer Planet, offer him. It seemed to thrive off simple trade and rumor of a powerful hermit wizard just a breathe away kept just enough intrigue to keep people coming and enough concern to keep at bay casual troublemakers. But Rufus? He was an advanced troublemaker who had once led the whole of his father's company on a wild goose chase for an enemy even the Turks could not hunt. In the end what remained of AVALANCHE joined the WRO, of whom he finds: placing in his pocket his father's enemies and making use of them to rebuild their world. But he had to do his part, so here he was on this world seeking a base of operations that would cut the cost of travel between worlds. Eventually Rufus would arrive at the mansion. The sense forest that sat between the mansion and town stead was ideal. It meant there would be that fewer individuals nosing around.
He would pass the gates, the doors and finally sit at the foyer where he could beholden the disheveled, ramshackle abode that has long since been abandoned. With the time one could assume that had passed since a former resident was present, if the cobwebs was anything to speak of, it was no wonder that man sought to sell it. Superstitions were one thing Rufus could not hold himself to believe in so he was like the only fool willing to obtain this property.
It was perfect.
Except for one piece of the puzzle that would not just fit. Raising his head she would look over towards the voice. "And who are you?" But he didn't need much in the way of an answer as Dark Nation's hackles were raised: with its back arched and a snark rumbling from its chest and lips. "Are you the one that wanted to sell me this property?" It was not a question meant for answer. He knew the answer, but he wanted the man to know he had no power over him in this situation. "Or would you like to start again?" A man who demanded respect. ▲ 0647● Lauriam● Traditionally they are haunted

Lauriam had expected many reactions to his sudden appearance in the mansion, but he had not expected for the civilian to act so calm in his presence. Lauriam blinked, gathering himself with a deep breath to analyze the situation from an other perspective. He took a moment to look at the man and his companion more clearly, listening to his choice of words with a slightly raised eyebrow. The man's expression in front of him was neutral, this aura that surrounded him radiating confidence and pride, paired with this arrogance he had already sensed from Rufus before, the last part only coming off stronger when he ended this last sentence. Was he trying to threaten him, or something? Such a demand for respect from a total stranger almost made it feel like this man was seeing himself as king, or something similar. It was clear he was trying to assert his position in front of Lauriam and put him back in his place.
Lauriam wasn't quite sure if it was the right time to stick to formalities and that his warning had hit deaf ears was not making it much easier for him. Also, the constant growling of the creature was making him feel uneasy at the moment. Maybe this man could be more of a threat than the heartless he had seen, but he could feel the power that was sleeping inside Rufus heart. It was complex, a mixed structure of darkness and light, but it was for certain that this man's heart was strong and reason enough for heartless in a radius of a few miles to get attracted to it.
“I apologize if I did not greet you the way you are used to, sir, but is it really the right time to stick to such formalities? I am not the salesman you are looking for and I am sure that is obvious.”
He turned his head, eyes narrowed as he took a good look at his surroundings. “There is a strong heartless nearby and it is on it's way to this location. It must be attracted by you and that is reason enough to skip any introductions for now. You should get out of here as fast as you can.”
A soft sigh escaped his lips, a hand set on his hip now. “Unless you and you pet want to end as a meal today, whichI am almost certain you don't. I came here to make sure that doesn't happen. I am not one to watch people die if there is a way to avoid it.”

Rufus was no idiot, by any stretch of the imagination. Luriam's method of approach was akin to the Remnants. It was immature, flashy. It was theatrical and with little regard to the harm it could cause an average man. To be assured were Rufus a lesser man he would have been surprised and in that Luriam would have an advantage in this situation. He would become the leader. No, a situation like this was best met on solid, neutral ground.
Who did Rufus fear?
Respect?
Sephiroth.
He made an entrance that required no introduction. He was the Fallen Hero of Planet that would never be forgotten. To have that kind of respect upon entering a room or having your name whispered . . . That was a power Rufus could only dream of. In moments like these he wanted to exude that force. He was no soldier nor was he all that inclined when using materia. He was trained, one could not doubt the skill he had being raised among Turks and enemies always out for one's life. He did not just sit back and let others save him when he was more than capable of saving himself.
But there was one thing he feared. It had no name, no face and it had haunted him for months after Meteorfall . . . .
He looked to the side. Dark Nation was reacting to something. A smirk painted his lips as the edges quirked up in a glimmer of amusement. How was he even surprised anymore? Wherever he went those creatures would pop up, harass him. He could usually manage with the help of others but in this task he was on his own. He could reach for his phone to call for backup, but this young man...
His hand drifted towards his jacket, the inner pocket housing the new cellphones that would allow him to communicate with his team across these new Worlds. Though unreliable and ineffective in some places it was better than having no means to call for help . . . "You know what these shadows are?" He had no positive experience with them. Unlike the Remnants these shadows could not be bargained with or lied to. They had a singular task in mind, animals roving on instinct alone. Occasionally a master would hold their leash but, the collective of entities seemed otherwise feral. Just a pack of wild hounds. He moved to rest his gloved hand on the ebon tentacle of his beast. It seemed to calm, but the growls continued, albeit more softly. Suddenly a clatter! One of the marble stands that held the glass cases had collapsed, some old damage in the marble finally giving way causing the entire structure to collapse leading a trail of stone and glass to scatter across the way like a glittering river basin. The glass took the light around it: reflecting, refracting and causing the light source to ripple and dance as if hypnotized by the sun. Dark Nation gnashed its fangs at the disturbance only to let out a howl. This caused Rufus to raise his head. He had not heard anything, nor had he noticed anyone upon entering. But there was something out there. The noise grew more audible. The hearing shriek of a desperate beast in search for its prey. Wailing cries mimicked the agonizing twist of metal on metal which caused the man to raise his head and move towards the window as his hand came to his hip as if readying a weapon. Though it would never become visible, as his white jacket fluttered over his hip. He moved his fingers to part the curtains as he stared off into the front courtyard. Something was out there...▲ 615● @laurium● Haunting Screams

It was become more and more certain that this man was no ordinary person. Normal people living in this town would already have taken his warning to heart and run or at least panic, but not this one. This man.. has seen things. Things that were more terrifying than these heartless demons that attack the worlds. It made Lauriam wonder what that man was doing here, waiting for a salesman in the middle of nowhere. What was his goal? Was he maybe more of a threat then the heartless? Lauriam frowned, watching the man and his pet.
"You know what these shadows are?"
He hesitated for a moment before he would give a nod as answer. “I know more about them than you might think. The one on it's way here is no ordinary one. It's a type I don't know.”
He was about to get into detail, at least get the man ready for what was coming, but it seemed it was already to late. The lamps fall didn't make him flinch a bit, the energy that was radiating from the heartless already having entered the surroundings. He knew it was here. He closed his eyes, sighing. “Well, it seems you have to fight your way out of this one, now. It found you.”
The first so distant shriek suddenly got loud, almost deafening as a shadow seemed to burst out of thin air in front of the window, aiming directly at Rufus, smashing through the window and trying to slam it's claws into his body. Lauriam was already on the move, calling his scythe as he moved to the direction it was coming from. His blossom-lasers appeared, shooting at the creature before it could get to close to the man, the projectiles shooting past Rufus and into the heartless shoulder, making it shriek and fly back, retreating back into the shadows in the wall, immediately on the move again to find a new position to attack from. It was being highly aggressive. He only scratched that thing, but at least it was no longer directly in front of Rufus. It was somewhere in the mansion, waiting for the next opportunity to strike.
“Are you at least ready to cooperate with me, or do you want to take it on alone?” This was rather serious. Lauriam couldn't tell what this heartless was capable off. It was not one of the ordinary ones and that meant that it had a few asses up it's sleeve. He really should have kept his nose out of it.. but it sounded way to much like something his Nobody would do and that was not acceptable.

Rufus had spent months trying to contact someone about the mansion. It was as if there was no one who could sell him the property, but he would finally find someone that had the information he sought: it was a man who wore a mask and spoke in a poetic rhythm that found him to be the perfect, new tenant because the last owner was a man of science, he claimed. They had been a rich inventor who secluded himself in these woods in hopes to find the answer to an equation that would end death. Rufus thought it all nonsense because no man could escape death. He has even heard legends of gods dying. It was why Planet had no god. They had killed her. Never in his wildest dreams would he pursue projects as Hojo once had under the Shinra banner. They had enough work to do repairing the mess they had made of their beloved world and he would not deny the opportunity he had been offered. If this place indeed had the answers he sought: he could perfect the SOLDIER serum. It was in a perfect location for his work here in Twilight Town. He had arrived about two days ago after hearing about a source of magic that was detected somewhere in the city. There were rumors of strange sightings and hauntings such as changing stairwells and a secret ghost train. It was only proof that a great magic here could indeed power his projects and keep them far from Planet’s surface. His sapphire eyes looked toward the man as he insisted on his knowledge of the beings. They had been cropping up on Planet on occasion. At first there was panic that the remnants had returned, but Cloud assured that they had yet to make a comeback since their last reincarnation. He looked to Lauriam and crossed his arms over his chest, the white suit unsettling against his body. “Trouble.” That was his thought as he listened to the young man speak on his undeniable knowledge, but Rufus was the sort to not take others at face value, especially when they had information on an enemy you did not. Anything they say could be a deception, a lie in order to take the higher path. After all he had been in that very position once before. The only standing claim that Lauriam could maintain was that he did not know who Rufus was and for this man to need reason to threaten him was slim to none. But still -- a slim chance. Rufus pushed back his white jacket, revealing the shotgun at his side. Drawing it from its holster the executive would cock the hammer of the weapon, loading the rounds. After Lauriam attacked the Banshee it would hide, his eyes narrowing. He would scoff.“Fetch.” He commanded the Tentacle Hound before it would lower its head, snarling. The beast would scan the area, nose and ears working to sniff out its prey. Were it able to find it, or at least locate its movements it would bark deeply, its nose pointing toward the target. Rufus took quick aim and fired two rounds in rapid succession towards the direction the Hound indicated. ▲ 0540 ● Lauriam ● This is just the start.

Lauriam still was unsure about Rufus motives. Being a target of such a strong heartless does indicated that this man has a strong will and heart, but he was not able to look inside of him and see if he was on the side of light or darkness. He didn't know what intentions this man had and the way he held himself gave away a strong air of pride and power. Both these things have been the downfall of many before him, Lauriam a perfect example. He tried to brush of the thought for now. He needed to focus on the current danger he was in. If this man was truly one of the sinister kind, he would find out soon enough. And if this man would prove to be a danger to the people of this world, he would be judged by the assassin. He was not a nobody anymore, but the weapon he held was still as deadly as it was before. He would only kill though, if there was no other way...
Lauriam kept track of his surroundings, ready to counter any incoming attack. The hound Rufus had with him soon showed to be pretty useful, as it was able to smell out the enemy effectively. It was able to find it's spot of hiding and when it was just leaving the walls safety to attack, the shotgun was already aimed on it and it released to shells on the enemy. The Banshee was hit and pushed back by the force of the shotgun's blast. The attacks seemed to be effective, but it had angered the heartless. The creature suddenly let out a piercing scream, the high pitch making the windows in the room shake and crack, before they would be blown into shards.
Lauriam was also shaken by the power of the scream, the man trying to withstand the force it held within. Resisting was futile however, the high pitch making his body shake from the pain in his head that kept rising, even with his hands trying to block it out. He let go of the weapon as he tried to save his ears. The Banshee's eyes glowed menacingly, the creature immediately taking the chance to attack the two men and the hound. It's body suddenly started to burn with a green flame that covered it completely and it rushed in like a lightning-bolt, going for a direct hit on Lauriam, Rufus and Dark Nation.
Lauriam was still fighting with the ringing in his ears, unable to protect himself of the incoming attack. He was hit directly and thrown to the side by the Heartless that still went full force for Rufus and Dark Nation.
He was thrown to the side, the flames burning into his clothes were he was hit, leaving a burn mark directly on his torso. He rolled over the ground for a moment, before he would scream and grab his still burning vest and rip it from his body to throw it away and keep it from setting him completely on fire. The white shirt was also burning, but only at the torso, since it was protected by the black fabric. He was able to pat it out, but he was already injured so shortly into battle. This thing was clearly something to not to take lightly as an enemy.

Rufus had been traveling for some time, discovering new worlds thanks to a string of bad luck, though it seemed that coincidence was more than just a device for the faithful who believed in miracles and dreams. Rufus’ mind was anchored in reality. His hopes were often remnants of dreams he had as a child and could no more cling to them than one held onto a memory. It existed, but it was in no way a tangible force that could, any longer, change the world. His father was a memory and all he did to destroy the world was becoming less so a reality, but more a transient dream held on in the meek and dying. Shinra was born anew and they would rise again as a light for the shadows in this world. This creature was another shadow in the way of his greatness, and that would not do. Good and evil were merely concepts one placed on others to justify their own actions. Rufus was his own person. He had a goal, he abided by the ethics instilled by the desire of the people. If they wanted war, he would bring war. If they wanted peace, well it was his job to bring them peace: but they wanted to see the stars and so long as these creatures roamed the land they would be unable to do so. And so he would find a way for them to travel the stars. He took his shot, a keen eye on his partner as the master and his hounds were one. When he moved his hounds were two steps ahead of him, ready with teeth bared. As a result of his attack the creature would let out a horrid wail, a series of them in fact. The hound was stunned by the noise, Rufus brought to a knee as he pulled his hands over his skull. He would reach out his hand and brush over the bangle on his wrist before he let loose a Silence spell from his Seal Materia in order to quell the beast. The spell would stick, thusly ending the beasts caterwauling, at least for a time, but that was still an advantage they hadn’t previously. Shaking off the pain from the screams Rufus would adjust his jacket, smoothing his collar before standing tall. He snapped his finger. “ Bite its throat out.” His command was cool, direct and was only a step before he rested the muzzle of his gun on his forearm. Dark Nation raised his hackles and would snarl before charging the shadow. Parting their jaws the tamed hound moved to snap at the Heartless’ weak spots, or at least what was presumed as such. If the beast was able to bite down and shake the creature they would quickly move out the way without the prey. Rufus would kneel down and aim for the hanging lights above: old chandelier he would replace once he purchased this location anyway . . . With a few shots he would empty the barrel of his gun before snap ! The rusting chains that already held the lights up by a thread came tumbling down and, hopefully onto the Heartless. “ You, don’t stand there. Let's go.” He motioned to some doors off to the side, dilapidated and barely dangling on its hinges. “ We can’t just sit in the open.” He stood and walked towards the room. But it didn't make sense, why would close them up in such a small room? Maybe it would make sense soon. ------ Seal Materia: (Sleepel|Silence) Sleepel lulls the target to sleep for a one round duration, making them incapable of performing any attacks. Silence seals a user's ability to cast magical spells, which lasts for a single round duration. [3 Cooldown| Duration: 1| Uses: 3] Bite: A vicious bite attack that does low damage. The Banshee was like all the other heartless, feeling the same hunger as any of them would for such strong hearts in front of her. But like many of the heartless born from strong hearts, this one also had something one would call a 'mind', not like most of the normal low-class heartless like the shadows. It was thinking as it acted and not going purely by instinct, slashing on the enemy like there was no tomorrow. It was watching the enemies, trying to find weaknesses it could use to get what it wanted. The Shriek had been effective on both of the targets, the creature aiming at Rufus now after hitting Lauriam. However, the man was able to call an order to his companion, the tentacle-dog attacking and catching the Banshee. Without being able to use it's voice to shriek again, the creature would use the fire that was still on it's body and tried to set the hound aflame, before grabbing it and ripping it off, throwing it in the direction of a nearby table. It was about to try and vanish again, when the sound of a snapping chain caught it's attention, the Heartless seeing a big object coming down, only to hit it and crash it to the floor. The creature immediately moving around wildly under the chandelier as it tried to get it off from it's body.
Lauriam was on his feet again in the meantime, summoning his scythe back into his hand. He was not amused by this whole situation. And that man was giving him orders... he wasn't some kind of dog he could order around.
I should have left him alone with that thing....
“You don't say.”
He didn't know why Rufus decided to run for a smaller room than to go for the big door outside, but he already had a feeling that he was planning something... Maybe he should go with it. Working against each other in this situation won't help any of them, so they had to at least try to get along.
“You really have to work on that charm of yours, Sir.”
He moved to the door on the left with Rufus. It was a dinning room with a broken table inside. They still had time with the heartless being stuck, so Lauriam took the chance. “So ,what are you planning? We won't get anywhere without working together.”
Lauriam took position next to the door inside the room, his free hand already preparing a spell, should the heartless free himself.

He was starting to understand the nature of these shadows. Their death was never permanent and a but a breathy whisper on the blade of a sword or the edge of a bullet. He has figured out that ordinary rounds did no good, which was why he had began development of the very essence of their destruction: light. He did not quite understand why it was light was able to tear into their defenses, but it was only a matter of time until Research and Development could solve his problem and if they could not: he would. While his bullets were little more than paperweights against this shadow: he had a trump card up his sleeve, in this case: materia. While having diminished in use since Meteorfall it had only been a result of the difficulty in which it came to produce them. They were products of Planet and with her currently in diminished health she produced less and less, leaving what they had some of the few sources of her power remaining, but with each use they pulled from her. He was not sure how far from Planet he was, but he could be sure that his Materia would not be at its strongest. The heinous creature was at least silenced for now. The assault on Dark Nation sent the tentacle hound lurching back, a pained yelp escaping its maw. But once the chandelier fell the hound was given a chance to stand, the Banshee's attrition ceasing for the time being. Rufus could almost hear the sirens overhead as his feet carried him into one of the collapsing rooms. Lauriam's words would draw a smirk from the man as he kicked and slid against the wall until his back was flush against it. Dim, glowing sapphire eyes drew towards the young man as he loaded rounds into the barrel of his gun. He looked to his palm, rolling a coin between his slender digits in thought. Sliding the metal piece into the palm of his half-glove covered hands he would tuck it away, clapping the chamber into place. Rufus smirked as he pulled his finger to his lip, pursing them with a gentle shh. As they waited out the Heartless would regain its senses. Floating up from the tangle of metal and glass it would shake its form off. Rufus whistled softly, Dark Nation letting out a sharp bark that caused the already confused Banshee to spiiin! It would finally settle, coming to a halt only to spy the dark hound bound into one of the rooms. The Heartless bobbed angrily before rushing after. With a room so small there was only so many places it could manifest. It pushed into the door only to manifest in the room's center, looking around for the beast of black: that stood at the opposite end of the room, snarling. " Charm? Is that all it takes these days to lead?" His words were followed by his weapon starting to glow and from the barrel a spell blasting from it: the glow of his Mystify Materia drawing a tight haze that was meant to confuse the beast, sending it to attack itself or nearby objects more available and if it landed it would buy Lauriam time to let loose his spell. ▲ 0000 ● Lauriam ● Who needs charm when you have power?

I am coming for you. Please wait for me.
Trying to change is never easy. Change doesn't happen by itself, after all. Many try to change, but only a few are able to overcome what keeps them from making the final step. Trying to make up for past mistakes is always problematic, especially with a certain amount of ego and pride standing in your way. Lauriam doesn't know that the man he is fighting next to also has similar problems, at least for now.
Lauriam took his position in the room, out of sight like Rufus, the man watching his movements for a moment, reading his weapon for the strike. This man wasn't stupid. He had a good picture on how combat worked and how you could set a trap to the enemy. Lauriam had a feeling that this man had been trained in this way of combat, most likely some sort of military training. Analyzing a situation and acting accordingly to get the upper hand, even if you are on lower ground is a trait most soldiers are learning, before being thrown into a combat-situation. His dog was also trained to listen to any order Rufus would give him, so this also meant that this man must have a higher rank than just being an ordinary soldier. It showed by his confidence in his skills and his habit of ordering people around. A commander?
Lauriam would have enough time to analyze the man more to figure out what Rufus was trying to do here and what his objectives might be. The trap Rufus had set seemed to work well. The Heartless was blindly rushing into the much smaller room and directly into their grasp. Rufus shot startled the Banshee and avoiding it was out of question. The creature was hit, screaming as the spell took hold, the Heartless seeming to go on a rampage on the already broken table and clawing at it wildly. Lauriam chuckled in amusement. “Lead? What makes you think you are in the position to give me orders?”
The spell he had been preparing was ready, the magic energy in his body taking hold of him, the man seeming to vanish in a flash of flower-petals, only to reform right behind the creature, a quick slash of his weapon coming from on side, sending it into the air, where his body would move way faster than a human eye should be able to track, a rain of slashes coming down onto the Banshee before he would slash down from the air, sending it into the ground and right into the table, the creature completely destroying the table now and being buried under it's parts. Lauriam jumped back, twisting the scythe back into combat-position.
“We are cooperating. I am not your dog.”
The Banshee was getting rather angry now, screaming as it clawed out from the table-parts. It suddenly formed into black mist, moving around in the room before it would hit an old knight's armor in the corner of the room, the armor turning black in color before it would suddenly start to move, the possessed object taking the claymore in both hands and rushing in Lauriam's direction. Lauriam moved to the side, able to avoid the attack, but two other armors started to move, taking their claymores in their hands. “Persistent... These types of heartless are always problematic.”

Rufus grew up in Shinra. He was no different from the Turks and while his father, in his own strange way, loved him, only viewed him as a means to the end. Since his mother's death he had become a mere tool, a device to be used for writing this man's continued history, as if he were an extension of Shinra. But Rufus was his own person with his own ideas. His own hatred and his own peculiarities. He was raised to know nothing but Shinra so when his father came close to destroying it: the youngest Shinra could not simply sit by while his name was destroyed. He would wrest the power of the company from his father. He funded AVALANCHE he would plot against the man and eventually take control of the Turks: the very organization his father created to be his hounds and his ever loyal go-getters, but the Turks were like him in every way. They knew nothing but Shinra and loved it more than life itself. When taken by the Turks after his plots were exposed he was neither killed, nor stripped of his position. He was his father's only son, after all. After saving the Turks from utter destruction they had turn sides from the old Shinra to the new. Rufus had a power that no one else had.
He was Shinra.
His father instilled the ideals of the company into his son. The Shinra Power Electric Company had influenced the world's society, infrastructure and politics. There was nothing that Shinra was unable to control and even incited a war to crush the only nation that turned them down. The nine-year Wutai War had been devastating to the nation and placed it under Shinra control. Shinra had a massive military force and a monopoly on energy resources that none could match, turning them into the heroes who brought villages across the continent from poverty. Even now as oil was discovered in the Corel Mountains: Shinra moved to solar energy and hydroelectric power sources. Shinra was the good in humanity as they searched for cures to diseases with genetic research. They protected their country's interests by fending off the so-called Wutain threats in the slums and spread propaganda of their biggest project: the floating nation of Midgar where Shinra's seat of power would engender prosperity. They spread the news through their own News program entitled Shin-Ra news and decried those who denied Mako energy as Wutain sympathizers. To Rufus Shinra was the embodiment of progress and anyone impeding on it was either an enemy or dead. Than -- his father became the wall that prevented Shinra from growing. Corruption had seeded into his cabinet. He sat in on meetings as the vultures surrounding him all scrounged for the fattest piece of meat to line their pockets while they turned out nothing. They failed to progress and fed themselves until they were fat while Shinra struggled to maintain control. So -- Rufus funded AVALANCHE to usurp his father. Rufus saved the Turks and proved he was a true heir of Shinra. It was Rufus who forestalled the return of the One Winged Angel by holding hostage the last remaining vestige of the JENOVA threat. It was Rufus who funded the WRO so that the Planet could have a fighting chance.
Rufus was Shinra.
He owed the planet a great debt because Shinra had nearly turned it into a grave under the unconscionable leadership of his father. But he was different. After all -- he was quite forgetful so would move ahead despite what his enemies said.
Those mako-tinged eyes looked to Lauriam as he cocked the hammer to his gun. A smirk drawing on his features. "You don't need to be a dog to follow orders, you simply need to know your place in the world." Something about him was commanding. His personality and position were indeed akin to a commander, but he was much greater than that. He was a leader and he knew how to motivate his subordinates and can . He operated with a legacy in mind, despising the competition his father attempted to instill. He was a guiding light and influenced others. Even if Lauriam had not recognized it: he was being led on by Rufus on some level. He looked around the room before taking aim at some of the debris beside one of the suits of armor, causing it to erupt in a display of devastation, but it would also do to clatter the destruction into the side of the armor."Bite!" he called to Nation, the hound snarling and lunging into the armor that was, hopefully, knocked off balance. The beast bit down onto a hanging bit of chainmail and would ravenously shake it. Rufus knew how to manage his weapons. After all Shinra was founded generations ago as Shinra Manufacturing Works and specialized in weapons, so it was no surprise that weapons remained a cornerstone of their wealth, even today. Rufus was not without an ability to impede an enemy with his guns alone. "Hardly. There are no bodies in them." Rufus noted. "But even a spirit cannot haunt it, if it's mangled and useless." With that Rufus unloaded his rounds into the first suit Nation had stalled. While his current rounds could not pierce the armor he had focused enough damage onto one spot to bend in the metal. He looked to Lauriam and smirked before he motioned his head towards the door. "We'll bottleneck it out, take out the other two." They would just need to back out of the room because it would be unable to charge them two at a time through a door. "I'll watch your back." Rufus stated as he quickly reloaded his guns. He would back out of the room after Lauriam did, if the man chose to abide by common sense. They could not have a firefight in the room but having trapped it they can take the advantage and destroy any chance it had until it was cornered. It was a game of attrition, at least until Rufus could use that Materia...----------Bite:A vicious bite attack that does low damage.[Cooldown: 1 Posts]▲ 1019 ● Lauriam ● A leader knows when to stand behind

Fighting heartless could become rather annoying, depending on the type of opponent. He knew enough about the elements and heartless in general to arrange them into different lines of difficulty. Shadows are the weakest, of course, but he knew that the number of them can make a big difference. Heartless like Behemoth's are category 4 in his list. The Banshee would be a 3 in his ranking, since it wasn't easily killed and had more of a mind than normal shadows. From what he made out, this creature didn't have much physical strength and was relying a lot on it's magic abilities. Rufus' Silence-Spell proved to the very useful against it.. and it gave Lauriam an idea how to get a critical hit on the creature. They only had to time things right and this fight might be over soon. They just needed to lure the Banshee out in the open again to get a hit on it.
Lauriam fend of his opponent by using his scythe, avoiding an attack and than using his blade with a swift move to hit the legs of the armor and make it stumble, the knight falling forward and hitting a wall with a loud clang of metal. The Armor hit by Rufus was tumbling back as well, however trying to aim an other slash at him, this one more wildly than the attack before. The armor fighting Nation was trying to get a hold of the dogs muzzle, pulling out a dagger on the side of it's belt and attacking the dogs head with it.
Lauriam was not in position so he could help the animal, so he just hoped the creature would be able to defend itself from this attack. “Your place in the world? I guess yours is in a high one than... but from what I can tell, this isn't your home world, so that rule of your status does not apply here.”
Lauriam decide to help the animal, using his weapon to smash it against a pot in the room to make it fly in the direction of the armor like a ball, hitting the armor on it's head in hopes of it to lose concentration and miss with the attack. He moved out of the room with Rufus, giving the man a look over his shoulder when he passed him. “Are you able to use that Silencing-Spell again? I know how to get this creature out of our way. I only need to land a good hit on it, when it is unable to use it's magic.”

Rufus knew well of his place in the world. For a long time people had told him and decided for him what his role in his world should be. For a long time he thought his only path was the one carved out for him by his father. It was not until Meteorfall that Rufus began to understand how outdated such an idea was. Far be it for him to deny his role as an innovator and a leader of the people's unrealized desires, but his place was where he decided. His reality was no longer codified by the blond ambitions of a man determined to self destruct and chase a dream. The future was right in front of Rufus. This was the place he would start his journey off Planet. " My place is right here, right now. But that may change at a moment's notice." He smirked. " I rather like it here and won't be chased off by a remnant." He determined. Dark Nation was quick. Thanks to Lauriam's quick action the hound was able to peel away from the armor suit and rush out of the room on Rufus' command. The man backed up, smirking in understanding. Luckily the Materia has since cooled down, allowing the use of the spell, but it did drain him so frequent use of the spell could cripple him on the battlefield. Backing out of the room he stood off to the side letting out a barrage of bullets spray at the attacking suit as he exited the room. He loaded another round of bullets into his gun's chamber. He would wait until the banshee revealed itself back. His spell would be useless if he couldn't attack it directly. " Destory the all the suits in one go. My spell won't mean anything I'd I don't hit the real target." With it split up as it was the spell was unlikely to land. Taking aim Rufus shot a straight shot at the helmet of one of the suits, clearing it off the shoulders of the third, possessed, monstrosity. If it has nothing to possess it could do naught but reveal itself to them. ▲ WORDS ● Lauriam ● He is a man of standards, that change with his needs.
