Strange new worlds and the war within them. Zidane had bet it all on Vivi, sacrificing whatever energy he had left to try a hail mary with the young black mage. It wasn’t a bad strategy; Viv had proven himself a worthy magic user with plenty of tricks up his own sleeves. Beatrix could and did commend them both for the sacrifices they both had made, both before this match and during it. Vivi would fight to the very end, spurred forward by his friend’s desire. And it wasn’t impossible that Vivi could very well beat them if he played his cards right. But it was an uphill climb for anyone to face two opponents as a single force; even she would find it difficult depending on her foes. She was torn between wanting to give Vivi the warrior’s respect he deserved and wanting to ensure no further pain came to her friend.
It seemed Nil was even more disinterested in continuing to fight with the advantage. While he rushed in like he was attacking, it seemed nothing more than a feint to get in close and properly introduce himself to the black mage. He held out his hand, offering to halt the match then and there and allow the judges to decide the winners. There had been plenty of combat up to that point; there would be bountiful content to reference for victories and losses. Vivi didn’t say anything at first; the glowing yellow ovals underneath the downtrodden hat seemed to drift over their battlefield in thought. It was only when he took several steps away from Nil and declared that a battle didn’t end when still opposed, even if the chips were heavily out of balance. It was a personal belief that had clearly come from journeying with Zidane, Steiner and the rest of them. There was no counting the number of times their group had gone up against unspeakable, unbelievable odds.
She may have taken a moment to smile in respect and pride for the black mage, if it hadn’t been for the sudden bolt of lightning that ripped the sky in half and struck her. The volts of electricity tore through her body, causing her muscles to tense up to the point of pain and agony. As the lightning strike disappeared – nearly as quickly as it had come – Beatrix was left standing, smoke smoldering off of her form. Through her hazy and static vision, she saw the flash of red and orange that seemed to be sailing right towards her. Her body moved on instinct, Save the Queen slashing through the air and ripping into the Fira ball. It tore the elemental attack in two, causing it to detonate on either side of her standing form.
“He’s right,” she said through gritted teeth, her body still trying to come down from the sudden shock. It seemed all of her healing had been wiped away almost as quickly as she had received it. “Master Vivi has faced insurmountable odds before and triumphed. I know it seems unsportsmanlike but he will continue to fight, no matter the odds and we owe him the respect of giving him a challenge. I understand your means, Nil, but trust us on this.” Maybe he’d never been tested like they had, all those years ago. Or perhaps he was a truly deep, empathic soul. Neither was wrong nor less than the other but no matter the case, Beatrix would honor Vivi by continuing the fight until they were told to stop or they were all too worn down to continue.
Beatrix unsealed her gripped hand, wound into a fist from the muscular tension. She waved it in front of her and unleashed a plume of white smoke. It soared through the air like a serpent, looking to splash down upon Vivi’s head and Blind him, hindering his vision. Her blade swung back around in front of her, now starting to squeal as energy built up in it. It was familiar magic, electric power that had literally just struck the weapon and managed to stay harbored in its core. She turned it into her own resource as she charged, swinging the weapon down and creating an arc of yellow-white electricity that would hopefully topple the black mage over. The Thunder Slash was only the beginning of her renewed assault.

While Zidane and Vivi made quite an awesome pair, be it because of their synchronizing personalities or defined independence one could be assured if not for their time traveling together that the pair would hardly be able to stand against such formidable warriors. Beatrix alone, the General of Alexandria, was renowned for felling armies of warriors in a single swoop. She was a devastating opponent with no sense of mercy for the weak, and yet her spirit as a warrior was unmatched. Giving no quarter to her enemies she was very much inclined to give her all against someone she deemed worthy. And Vivi sure was worth the effort. It was no small feat to stand up to those kinds of odds. While Nil may have been new to battle his close quarter skills were no punch to the arm, even his magic seemed to display a fair flair of power that reminded Zidane a lot of Vivi. Strong, undisciplined but with room to learn! Zidane would sure be proud of the little guy for standing up for himself, for facing the odds and knowing that it was okay to keep on fighting! Sure this was all for fun, but -- come to think of it why had Zidane joined up? He wasn't one to do these sorts of competitions unless he had a reason. After all when it came to slacking on the job Zidane was king! He had seen it though, an opportunity to wake up from this dream. After unexpectedly coming across the General in Traverse Town they had parted ways. It hadn't been fault of his either... Invincible had suddenly left, without warning. He had been so mad -- but Vivi! He couldn't handle it and wanted to do something to take his mind off everything, show Vivi that everything was okay! He hadn't wanted to cry in front of the little guy, worry him. What better way to avoid that, than join a little festival, just like in Lindblum. Nothing had changed. Except everything had and try as he might -- Vivi sure has changed. So had Beatrix and -- Nil was too. He supposed it had been an unavoidable inevitability. Since everything he ... he didn't feel he had changed at all, stuck in a loop of time he couldn't escape. For that whole time -- spinning and spinning... One would think Zidane Tribal, the hero, the dashing rogue, the jovial prince of thieves would suddenly jump to his feet ready to fight again, but nothing so unbelievable would happen. Nothing so cliche. He was out cold for the rest of the fight unless the tides turned. he had given all that remained of himself to Vivi so he wouldn't worry about the previous fight, what had happened to Waltz because he would be the one making the decision on his own. Deep down -- maybe Vivi knew what he was doing. So uncool.

I'll spread my wings and I'll learn how to fly I'll do what it takes till I touch the sky. Nil couldn't say he was surprised with Vivi's response. Honestly he'd probably have said the same kind of thing if the situation were reversed. "Oh, no, I would have. But, that's alright, I understand! Maybe after the tourney's all over, we can all go get some ice cream or something huh?" respecting the mage's decision and resolve, Nil gave a little thumbs up and took a few steps back himself. He may not really know rules of engagement, but he wasn't going to take advantage of distance closed in peace. However once the crackle of lightning and blaze of fire shot past him towards Beatrix, he knew it was time to get his head back in the game. If Vivi at this much of a disadvantage was giving his all, wouldn't it be rude for Nil to do any otherwise? 'Alright...here we go.' the behemoth thought to himself, weapon gripped and at the ready. Much like Vivi, Nil himself would take pause to think of just what Zidane might do in a situation like this. A stroke of genius would catch him as his partner released a plume of smoke towards Vivi. Following behind the trail of smoke, Nil rushed his way back towards Vivi. Whether the blinding smoke managed to hit the mage or not, the next thing Vivi would likely see after it cleared would be Nil's horns bashing into him to Heave him up into the air. This time though Nil would capitalize on the distance closed. Should he manage to knock Vivi up into the air, the behemoth would follow soon after to continue the assault, swinging left then right and downward to Pop Drop Vivi back to the ground. Regardless of if his attempted aerial combo managed to reach its mark, Nil would thrust his keyblade towards the sky. There was the loud sound of rumbling for a few moments before a series of portals tore open in the sky. From them, dozens of Meteors rushed towards the mage in droves. Inside Nil's mind, as the meteors rained down, a war was waging. One that would threaten the very sanity of lesser men...or behemoths. 'Should I get chocolate ice cream later, or try that sea salt ice cream everyone was talking about?...'________________ Action 1: Heave: It worked once before! Maybe it'll work again! Attempting to use Beatrix's Blind as a a distraction, Nil closes the distance to Vivi for a Heave: Charge at the foe, slamming into them with large pointed horns for heavy Physical damage before tossing them up into the air. Often opening the opponent up for aerial combos. Can only be performed on the ground. Cooldown: 2 Posts. Action 2: Pop Drop: At least if Vivi ends up knocked into the air, he wasn't stay there long if Nil lands his Pop Drop: A standard three hit combo with the Keyblade. When executed on the ground the last hit knocks enemies into the air. When executed in the air the last hit knocks enemies down to the ground. Deals average Physical damage. Cooldown: 1 Post. Action 3: Meteor: But the landing will end up being pretty rocky, one way or another. Even if Nil can't land his combo, he's not about to give up trying and follows up with a rain of Meteor: Droves of flaming meteors rain from above, devastating the surrounding landscape and anyone unfortunate enough to be in the vicinity with heavy Non-Elemental Magic damage. Cooldown: 3 Posts. Cooldowns: Ultima: 1 Post Remaining

Well…this was going to hurt he was sure of it. You didn’t just lay into general Beatrix with your most powerful magic and get away with it. A thick smoke was sent his way and he recognized it immediately as a blind spell. She’d already gotten him with silence, he wasn’t about to let her get him with that too! Vivi danced backward dodging away from the smoke but unfortunately it only put him more toward the center of the arena, so when Beatrix came swinging at him with a Thunderslash, her sword struck true as he was trying to gain his bearings and that painful Thunderslash surged through him causing him to shake.
He realized grimly that he wasn’t sure where Nil was and could only really mentally address that at around the time a pair of horns spaced at about the perfect size to lock around his small frame hurled him up into the air. The boy let out a shriek of surprise at being lifted into the air like that, but the journey wasn’t long lived as he was brought down with a slam against the arena floor. No! He was fine! He was okay! He just had to get up! Everything hurt, but he’d do it! He’d do his best. He started to get up only to note that a cascade of meteors were headed his way and he just wasn’t fast enough to do anything about it when one plummeted right into him.
Again Vivi ended up on all fours, shaking violently. In his critical condition, his body and his clothes began to emit a radiant glow as the Trance state took the boy over. New determination on the glowing boy’s face he managed to stand and he cast a Drain spell on Beatrix that was immediately doubled by another. The healing would help a bit but more full on assaults from these guys and Vivi wasn’t sure he’d pull through.

Strange new worlds and the war within them. Vivi wasn’t going down without a fight; he had stated as much. And it seemed after both his and her words, Nil had come to the understanding that this was a fight to the finish. She had to give him credit; for someone that was new to battle, he had been holding himself up well – even better than she had, in truth. But that had been because Vivi and Zidane had focused most of their attacks on her, understanding and knowing her potential for damage. The black mage had already fallen once and was up again, proving once again that willpower was stronger than pure strength.
He was quick to dance away from her Blind spell, bounding away with a swiftness and agility that would make Zidane gape. But it left him wide open once he landed and her sword hit true, the electricity surging through her weapon and back into him. Nil came rushing in, his horns taking the boy mage twixt them and hurling him skyward. She watched as the Behemoth took to the air after him, swinging his mystical weapon from side to side and eventually downwards, and sending Vivi hurtling back to the arena floor. The finishing touch to his combination was the summoning of a meteor shower that rained down upon the battleground, peppering the once pristine surface and snapping tiles like dry crops. It seemed like it should have been enough to finish Vivi’s offense.
But it wasn’t – not in the least. In fact, as the dust and smoke cleared from the impacts, the black mage seemed to be… glowing? Her eye went wide as she bore witness to the Trance activation and its legendary emanation that came from the boy. She’d seen Steiner’s Trance during the Siege of Alexandria and had heard that the Queen and them had each managed to breach that limit. It was a plateau that even she had never managed to surpass. Before she could even plan for it, her body was wracked with a sudden unease and weakness, two-fold. Vivi’s drain took whatever strength she had left and dwindled it down to a mere flicker of a flame. As she stumbled forward and landed on her knees, she barely had the power to remain conscious. How powerful his magic had become in such a short amount of time!
It seemed hers was running short. She grit her teeth and reached down deep into her soul, grabbing at the last remaining embers of her strength and willpower. She pushed herself to her feet, her sword beginning to screech an ungodly shriek as she wearily planted herself. She swung her blade down in front of her, slamming its edge along the broken tiles and unleashing a bright flash and burst of magical power. With the Stock Break still in its duration, she rushed through it and towards Vivi, stumbling like one that had swallowed far too much liquor. She swung her blade at him haphazardly, the Shock certainly dangerous but not exactly pristine in form or angle. But she used its motion to carry her body through, spinning around and up into the air, where her sword released its loud screech yet. As she came down towards the enhanced black mage, her Climhazard bore down upon him, its aim to flatten him once more and finish the fight once and for all.
For no matter what happened, the General would fall onto both her knees afterward, her arms hanging limply on either side, as the last of her strength began to fade away.

Trance was a legendary state that many could not achieve by merit of their own existence. But all creatures of Gaia were capable of obtaining the transcending form of Trance. From the smallest Moogle to the most nefarious of dragons, and yet they did not. As such Trance was the pinnacle of one's emotional state. The stress of combat, the terror and fear of loss. When at the limit of what the heart could contain it would spill forth as if a dam had been torn from its foundations. Zidane had been close to his own, the edges of his tail and tips of his hair had taken a pink hue and by all merit of his bravado he would have been the first to reach this point an yet...I hadn't... In all of his boasting and hollering the rogue had resisted every chance he had to really push himself to his limit. It had teetered at the edge. Come his moment, upon facing Nil's attack, he had every right and capacity to unleash his all on his buddy. he really showed off some skill, but Zidane was a hero, so he should have, could have, easily won, right? While Trance was the reach of one's upper limits Zidane had not felt himself able to cross that line. He wasn't driven by a competitive nature, merely a willful one that sought fun and amusement in a time that was, for him, difficult. It had put his heart at ease finding Beatrix and Vivi but he lamented. He had handicapped himself without realization. He was, for the first time in a very long time, homesick. Talking to Nil about running away from home, finding adventure -- it had brought those sorts of memories he had locked away rushing back. His heart and spirit longed for his home. This fight?A distraction from it all. He wanted to show off, to have a good time with the little guy, at least before he let him know about his decision... But meeting up with Waltz had been the last thing he expected. Boy did that sure turn out to be a kick to the nu..shins. Zidane ... just wanted to go home. He wasn't here to shine but Vivi ... he had to shine! Not just for himself but for everyone to see how far he's gotten without them. Those sad eyes when he found him, as if he had been alone for so long. How long had you been from home, little guy? I'm sorry I couldn't get home to keep an eye on things... I left you alone. In his unconscious state he could do naught but lament his irresponsibility. While he relinquished most of his duties as an adult -- there was no way he would have ever willingly abandoned Vivi to these strange worlds without someone at least letting him know -- they believed in him....never stopped believing in you little buddy... I'll spread my wings and I'll learn how to fly I'll do what it takes till I touch the sky. Landing back on the ground, Nil watched the dust cloud that had been kicked up by the falling space debris with baited breath. For a brief moment as it began to settle it seemed like the fight was finally going to be over. Vivi was on his hands and knees, barely able to keep upright. But though the mage struggled, a harsh glow erupted from him. Whatever it was filled the mage with an otherworldly strength and determination. It was a little frightening to tell the truth. Nil gripped his blade tighter in anticipation, half expecting himself to finally be the target of the mage's fury. But once again the spells soared past him and struck Beatrix once more. And though she was quite clearly reaching her own limits, rushed past the behemoth and unleashed her own assault on the glowing mage before collapsing to her knees. Crap. Okay, this is fine. Everything's fine! Nil would just have to uhm. Fight harder now? Oh gosh this was getting to be stressful. He had to think of something clever. He couldn't just keep tossing the mage up in the air like he was a bouncing baby boy or something, how rude would that be! Out in his peripheral, a glint caught Nil's eye. Zidane's weapon! Two blades were better than one right? And three was better than two! Tossing the handle of his keyblade into his maw, Nil would rush across the battlefield and skid to a stop next to Zidane's unconscious form. "Gonna hath t' borrow thees!" he'd say with his mouth full as he snatched up Zidane's daggers and popped them apart! Now wielding the thief's Mage Mashers, Nil would once more turn his attention towards Vivi. The paint of the behemoth's keyblade shifted hues once again and gave off a bright glowing light. Flicking his head left and right, it was like he had painted two orbs into the air as he cast another Wave of Mutilation. Spiraling orbs of Holy energy began to rush towards the Tranced mage, as did Nil. Once again, Nil wasn't certain if this was the greatest idea. But he was sure that the end result would be amazing, one way or another. Quicker than his twined homing spells, Nil closed the gap to Vivi first. The borrowed daggers put off a faint glow in his paws as he swung the blades downard at Vivi, using them as a channel for a Devil Claw attack afterwards. Once again Nil had no plans on sticking around whether his attack landed or not and beat a hasty retreat in the form of a leap backwards, just as the two homing groups of holy energy careened their way towards Vivi! ________________ Action 1: Lemme Just...Borrow This: In a stroke of brilliance, Nil decides more weapons is obviously the way to go and grabs up Zidane's Mage Mashers! Action 2: Wave of Mutilation: Wanting to try and finish this quickly, Nil swings his mouthful of Keyblade around and uses: Wave of Mutilation: Channel magical energies into the keyblade before slashing towards an enemy twice releasing waves of homing magic attacks. This ability acts as a form of Double Cast, allowing two of the same spell, or two different spells to be launched in quick succession. The cooldown of this attack is always 1 less than that of the spell used, but no less than 1 Post. Extremely powerful magics such as Ecliptic Meteor or beneficial magics such as Protect or Shell cannot be channeled in this way. Spell(s) Used: Holy: Glowing orbs of white, pearlescent energy spiral around a target before crashing into them, creating a larger orb which explodes into a burst of heavy Light-Elemental Magic damage. Uses Now Remaining: 0 Action 3: Devil Claw: Taking a chance, Nil rushes Vivi before his spells arrive to the mage and swings at him with the Mage Mashers to try and strike him with a Devil Claw: Lash out with blade or claws, dealing average Non-Elemental Physical damage and dispelling any Reflect spell on the target. Cooldown: 2 Posts. - Mage Mashers: Mage Mashers live up to their namesake and have the chance to inflict the Silence status on casters, disabling their ability to cast magic for a one post duration. This is a passive ability and has a 10% (above 90 on a d100 roll) chance of inflicting silence when the blades strike an enemy. Cooldowns: Heave: 1 Post Remaining Pop Drop: 0 Posts Remaining, Ready Next Post! Meteor: 2 Posts Remaining Ultima: 0 Posts Remaining, Ready Next Post!

Trance or no Trance, if Vivi was to survive, he had to move it! But the assaults from the general just kept on coming one after another. One thing the boy could see though was that the General, intimidating and beautiful in such close combat was falling to a state of exhaustion! Maybe if Vivi could just outlast her and have only Nil left to fight, he could stand a chance. The thought counted he supposed but it didn’t seem like things were going to be turning out in the boy’s favor. He just managed to hop clumsily out of the way of the slash from her sword that was glowing but the second slash brought with it a paralytic shaken feeling that just vibrated down to the bottom of the boy’s feet. It felt like he’d been glued where he stood and so when the full force of her climhazard struck, Vivi was knocked down to his knees.
From Nil’s direction came waves of energy that batted the boy to the side like a cat with a toy, and the last strike of claws did him in. Once again, everything went black through a thickened haze and exhaustion and pain took the boy over in unconsciousness. At least he’d fought.
[/font][/s] [Cooldown: 2] Sleep - 20% chance that the character falls asleep in their next post for the duration of their next post until they are hit by an attack or a curing spell such as Dispel, or Esuna is cast on them to remedy the effect.
