Tournament Reviews This template is to be used for all Tournament reviews. It is the same form that staff uses. Please copy and paste the code from the bottom into the appropriate match review thread that has been created by the staff. Please do not create your own thread. You cannot review a thread that your character participated in. For every knowledgeable and well written review, you will gain 20 munny to the character account you post the review with. You may only post one review per thread. Please be sure that your review is detailed and informed. Site Rules still apply to raid reviews, so be polite and respectful. Everything a member posts is to be read as constructive criticism and is not to be taken as an attack. Any issues should be reported directly to a staff member. Damage Inflicted and Taken: What powers were used and what damage taken should be reviewed here, as well as the effects of any powers used. Basically, which side dealt more and which side took more damage. Key Points:- Overall damage inflicted
- Strategic use of items
- Overall combative dominance
Questions to Ask Yourself:How much damage would that skill have inflicted on the target? Would a skill be super effective against the character, such as using a potion against someone inflicted with zombie. Who caused the most damage? Which side would have probably won the fight. Skill and Style: This isn't for it being well written, but the creative style and effect of their strategy and if it also had a imaginative visual. Key Points:- In-Character Combat Style
- Skills used wisely
- Use of weaknesses and strength
Questions to Ask Yourself: Did the member stick to their character's fighting style? Did they set them up in a way that would have been hard to defend against? Did that character use their unique/individual fighting style, or 'X-factor' to their best advantage? Did they use their known written powers in such a way that they normally wouldn't use them? Did someone feel out-of-character? Who controlled the battle? Who was more dominant with how the flow of battle went against the other? Did a character seem to be reacting to attacks more than being the one to inflict them? Did one player keep the other on their toes more than the other? Did one character seemed more defensive, calm and collected than the other? Did one person execute an ingenious strategy to win? Did one character identify the other's weaknesses or use their opponent's strength against them? Did a character start at a loss, only to turn it around and gain the flow and control of the battle in their favor? Did a character seem to just use attacks and throw them at the opponent, or used them in a way that was hard for the opponent to fight/defend/counter against? Descriptive Writing and Sportsmanship: How well did the member write and describe their actions and surroundings. This also includes if a character did not explain themselves or were not justified in their movements or dodging. Key Points:- Stayed In-Character
- Easy to Understand
- Overall fairness
Questions to ask yourself: Did they justify certain movements and their character's fight style? Whether their post was short or long, where they able to explain their actions to the reader and get their point across? Did you question any actions or abilities a character did make? How well did you understand their writing? Did they dodge an attack that should have otherwise harmed them? Did they ignore or shrugged off attacks or write that the attacks had no effect on them? Did they seem to know something about their opponent that otherwise their character wouldn't know? Did a character do something you felt was not fair or use a power not listed/misuse a power listed on their application? Who had the best sportsmanship, and was fair to the other team in taking damage? Did someone take a hit that they probably could have dodged? Did a team take hits that they knew they couldn't dodge realistically? Oh man, here we have quite a fight! One of the more interesting matchups I've seen in the tourney so far, both on paper and in practice! So let's get the review going~ Damage Inflicted and Taken: Here we have the teams composed almost entirely of FF9 folks really showing off some of the things that made their characters unique in their game! However, one side held a distinct advantage in this category--Beatrix and Nil. From the onset, both were putting out as much as they could as quick as they could. Both are surprisingly powerful, which left a less-than-bulky team of Zidane and Vivi on the ice. Despite their best efforts, without Zidane going all out and Vivi not using any powerhouse offensive spells, they just couldn't manage to make up the offense. That said, they clearly gave it a darn good shot, and deserve a round of applause for that alone. [******Beatrix/Nil******] Skill and Style: This one has another edge that's relatively easy for me to spot out. While one team had the power advantage, the other was clearly showing off skill and style more, especially in terms of the writing on Zidane's part and how every technique and move was nearly at peak performance levels. After all, Zidane isn't a brick wall, nor a brute, he's a finesse fighter, and a damn good one too. And this thread shows that off, despite the disadvantage he's at in terms of power. That really sealed the deal for me, marking their team as the victors here. [******Zidane/Vivi******] Descriptive Writing and Sportsmanship: And last but not least, we get to t he final category, and the most important one to me personally. And here, we have some very strong contenders, but none more so than Zidane! Touched upon in the last section a bit, Zidane's writer really shines in this thread, showing off a very intimate knowledge of both character and archetype, as well as doing a damn fine job in making everything that happens clear, fluid, and at times even beautiful. In terms of sportsmanship, everyone here did a very good job keeping it fair. There were no glaringly awful moments where I said to myself "That's B.S." This was a treat to read, and is the highlight of my reviews thus far this round. Though as you can tell, I did manage to pick a winner here...! Damage Inflicted and Taken: Now both sides had their fair share of skills but Beatrix and Nil had a clear advantage in the firepower department. With multiple specialty spells and even a doubled holy Nil was the shining gem of this category, Vivi just couldn't stack up against even in Trance. The team members taking this category also also each sported effective abilities for all ranges, this team had a damage output that just couldn't be matched. In addition, it was clear from the start that the duo had an advantage in the aggression department.
Before the match even started it was clear that Zidane was intimidated and while he and Vivi had a strong start in response, with Zidane trying to control the flow of battle, it wouldn't hold. Beatrix and Nil had abilities effective for all ranges and quickly turned the tables and held the pressure advantage for the rest of the fight, downing not two but three opponents, and poor Vivi, well, despite his best efforts that poor boy got tossed around like a rag doll. They could even afford to heal their opponent and still come out with a handy victory. [******Beatrix/Nil******] Skill and Style: Both teams made effective use of their abilities to keep the pressure on in the previous category. This category is almost a tossup. The teamwork of both teams was both lacking and impeccable in various stages of the fight. Both Zidane and Beatrix displayed their combat expertise par excellence during this fight, always looking for openings to disrupt their opponents and prevent disruption. Beatrix and Nil's supportive teamwork was active and like watching a tango, and while I can appreciate Zidane supporting the little guy, Vivi's teamwork didn't wow me. Had that been all there was to this category it would go to Beatrix and Nil hands down, but it's not.
Nil cast a powerful ultima not only on his opponents but on his allies and only by the grace of his partner's decision to pursue a weapon that can be summoned at will that saved them from heavy losses. As it stands, the attack downed Vivi and resulted in Zidane taking the floor too for different reasons, the edge for this attack goes to Beatrix and Nil. Beatrix made a conscious effort to silence the young mage and succeeded, while Zidane's silence of her came too late, judging from what we saw it might have been better used on Nil who was clearly the magical powerhouse of the part, the edge here goes to Beatrix and Nil. Zidane on his last legs got the little mage back up which gave us a rousing show but was ultimately futile. Novel, but not enough to turn the tide so no points there. Beatrix made the mindbogglingly strange and unwise choice to heal her opponent in competitive tournament when he's more than capable of healing himself at others' expense and has had no qualms about doing so. That feels like a demerit to me. This could almost go either way but I have to call it. [******Beatrix/Nil******] Descriptive Writing and Sportsmanship: Right up front, the jewel in the crown for this performance has to go to Vivi and Zidane. Despite some obvious foibles on the part of Zidane in quality standards for grammar, and some rectified failings on behalf of Vivi, their posts were a joy to read. The instant that little mage showed up on stage I was right there with him rooting him on and he did not disappoint, pulling me along for a ride. I feel like I got to know him through Show, not tell. Zidane's acrobatic style and cheeky attitude is as always a joy to watch. Watching the monkey boy prance about and try to control the flow of battle while assisting his little buddy. That said, for a mage, it shouldn't take ultimate spells to wow me. I feel like Vivi's heart wasn't quite in his magic and it showed, save for a few instances it wasn't much to watch.
Beatrix herself was as flashy as Zidane and I'd put her right up there with him. While Nil had some flashy attacks with plenty of bite I feel they were lacking substance and watching him fight is like watching a charging bull. Not elegant. It feels like Nil has two people piloting his body, he can lay the savage beatdown on a little magical boy one moment and then completely drop his guard the next. I didn't expect to see something like that out of the gentle giant.
Lastly, first and foremost this is a competition. Everyone comes in here intent to stand upon their own two feet, or four feet, as this is doubles matches and you darn sure are supposed to let them. If a combatant is intent on standing against you, you don't disrespect that resolve by healing him unprompted and putting you and your team mate at further risk and by that same token offering him quarter. That's not sportsmanship, it's just foolish. If somebody wants to win under their own power they should have that opportunity. In contrast, Zidane was in tune with the spirit of this competition. It's supposed to be a fun partnership, and having had his fun he got his partner right back up and his partner honored that no questions asked and no quarter given. Both Zidane and Vivi gave it their absolute all in this bout and I'm proud to see it. No fighter wants to feel like their opponents took it easy on them. You come here to play but more than that, you come here to win.

Damage Inflicted and Taken: WOW. This match was intense. It's honestly hard to say which side really did more than the other. But I will give credit where it is due, Beatrix had a commanding presence on the battlefield that everyone took notice of. I will say that for the majority of the fight, she was in control and dealt a very respectable amount of damage, despite the fact that she did end up going down in the end of the match. As for who ultimately took the most damage. Zidane comes in at a close second, and I think Vivi takes first place. Poor guy got beat down twice, but he wasn't entirely helpless either. This is probably one of the most difficult calls for me... But I will lean in favor of Nil and Beatrix. [******Damage Taken: Zidane & Vivi - Damage Inflicted: Beatrix & Nil******] Skill and Style: Beatrix is certainly just as skilled as I remember from the game. As most everyone in the match pointed out, she has the most combat experience, and I feel it was perfectly reflected here. Nil backed her up pretty well despite not being nearly as experienced as anyone else there too. I won't say it was all for naught on Zidane and Vivi's part however. They covered each other pretty well, and Zidane even put out a last ditch effort to win the match through Vivi, at the expense of no longer being able to participate in the fight himself. It is, once again, an incredibly hard call to make. Since I can't just call a tie however, I'm going to give the point to Zidane and Vivi, who put forth their best efforts and acted about as wisely as I think they could have for this battle. [******Winner: Zidane & Vivi******] Descriptive Writing and Sportsmanship: Ahh... The hardest part. Because honestly, everyone was descriptive, wrote well, and was easily understood. There was no underselling in the battle that I could directly see either. I do note that some of Vivi's posts were a tad short, but they weren't BAD, so I can't really count that as a point against them. No one felt out of character, and it's such a tough call to make. I'm very impressed with Beatrix and Nil however, because the two really found a good way to wrap it all up towards the end. Vivi put forth a good effort of course. But as I can't just say "everyone wins", I'm having to narrow it down to one side. Point to Beatrix and Nil! [******Beatrix & Nil******] Match Winner: ***** Beatrix & Nil ******
