Location: Traverse Town - District 2 Mood: Confused Status: Minor injuries Ramza was on the run. Not too long ago, he had accepted his upcoming death. When he destroyed Atma once and for all, and everything started to crumble, he was fine with death.
However, he didn't find death. He remembered being immersed into something, almost - as strangely as it sounds - solid, physical darkness. He passed out.
When he woke up, he was somewhere completely different. A city like one he had never seen. It was night, but the city was not completely dark - posts in the middle of the street had strange light bulbs on it, which shined without fire. The houses, too, were built of something that wasn't wood of stone. It felt like stone, but it wasn't - it was much smoother and regular than any stone house could ever dream of.
And the size of it all! Some buildings were taller than any castle Ramza had ever seen, and there were so many houses and buildings that, from a cursory glance, Ramza could see the city housed much more people than most of Ivalice's towns and villages.
The knight was amazed. He had never heard of such of place. Where the hell was he?!
He wasn't given much time to ponder. Strange beings started to appear from the shadows. Strange creatures as black as the night sky, almost invisible in the dimly lit streets. However, their eyes - round, yellow, bright eyes - quickly distinguished them from the surrounding darkness. They were darkness given form.
And they didn't seem friendly, as they crawled towards Ramza.
Fortunately, the Knight still had his sword. He unseathed his sword and pointed at them, hoping to intimidate the creatures as he backstepped. It didn't work. Two of them jumped towards Ramza; one was cut in half mid-flight, disappearing in a puff of black smoke. The other, however, landed a strike right in Ramza's face, knocking the blond down. Not losing any time, the knight rolled backwards and got up, in time to see two more approaching in the ground. Ramza Rushed backwards, creating some separation.
There were many creatures, at least a dozen, and Ramza was alone, lost and confused. As much as it hurt his pride, fighting this head on would be foolishness. Rushing twice more, creating as much space between him and the horde as he could, Ramza started running away, the small horde quick in pursuit.
The streets were labyrinthical. If Ramza took a dead end, he would be finished. Soon he found a more open area, with a fountain, and hopped down it, still running. From there, he would easily be seen by anyone in the region... Or so he hoped.
"HELP!" He screamed, as the horde approached. More creatures seemed to have joined it, and Ramza was cornered against the fountain. He readied his sword, determined to stand his ground - but desperately hoping someone would appear.
Not too long ago, he had accepted his upcoming death. But now that he had escaoped certain death at the hands of Atma, he wanted to live.

a falling star fell from your heart. The call for aid had not gone unanswered, though it likely would not have been the much more urgent or rise to arms as the knight might have expected. Rather, it was a falling figure, one who's heel seemed to slam down upon one of the shadows, causing it to disappear into a black mist beneath her feet. Holding her ground, the long haired female would then place herself within a fighting stance, eyes narrowed as she held up her hands in preparation. Tifa hadn't expected the spread of the Heartless to have grown this wildly. Especially to the point where they were appearing in this high of numbers. Then again, it wasn't as if she had any real clue as to what else, aside from strong hearts, could have drawn them out to this degree.
Eyes shifting form one side to next, her hand would quickly turn, slamming into one of the heartless as it launched itself forwards, attempting to try and latch on to her. Two more would come at her, causing her to jump back as she kept up her assault, looking over her shoulder towards Ramza with a serious expression.
"Keep making your way towards the exit!" Ramza Beoulve

Location: Traverse Town - District 2 Mood: Relieved, Confused Status: Minor Injuries The help he prayed for literally fell from the sky. A women, nimb and agile, with amazing martial prowess started to fight against the swarm of creatures. Was she a monk? She fought like one, but didn't use the standard clothing of one.
The woman ordered him to flee. He would be happy to oblige, but was hesitant to leave her to fend for herself against the creatures. He decided to do it half-way: He Dashed twice, creating enough space that he could outrun the horde safely until the entrance, and the shouted back: "What about you? I'm not leaving you to the fiends, milady!" She did seem capable of defending herself, and more used to this situation than Ramza. Then again, Ramza was not useless either, and wouldn't allow someone to sacrifice herself for his sake. He wouldn't flee completely until he saw that either she would win or flee safely with him.
As he watched her battle from a somewhat safe distance, he used Tailwind on the girl, making her moves faster and facilitating an escape, should she decide to run as well.

Strange new worlds and the war within them. Rightfully, it should have been General Beatrix crying out for help. But alas, her voice was silent while another’s breached the air, searching for assistance. And despite her current situation, Beatrix’s feet were already moving. Her armor shook and complained loudly at her quick movements, as it always did when she charged, but she didn’t care. It was time to put in work.
There was no simple answer to what had happened to her. One minute, she had gotten word from a perimeter guard that there was something humming in the dungeons of the castle. As she had made her way down the winding staircase beneath the queen’s chambers, she hadn’t even paused to consider what she was heading into. Her duty forbade her from second guessing if she was going to encounter danger or not. Her hand rested on the hilt of Save the Queen, ready to pull the weapon free in the case that she did encounter something formidable. But as she pushed in the door to the hallway, her world was suddenly surrounded by the sound of rushing winds and utter, complete darkness. She barely had time to think, let alone defend herself. And then, in a snap, she was somewhere entirely new.
It was a township, from what she could tell as she walked out of the dead end and glanced down the long alleyway. Porches hung from the buildings in front of her, shimmering and bright lights hanging about the area that made it as bright as day, despite it being night. There were two long patches of water on either side of the alley, separated with the brick walkway that ran the length of the structured valley. She frowned, her brow ruffled beneath her eye patch as she stared at the pool directly in front of her. She didn’t recognize this place at all; it was definitely not some town she had visited during her tenure in Alexandria.
When the cry went up, she turned on her heel and spotted a door in the foundation of the building beside her. She pushed through it and found herself in an open area. There were no signs telling her where she was, though there was a rather large clock tower to her left and a fountain with a rather exquisite stone mural directly on her right. But the man practically pressed against the fountain in front of her kept her attention more than the unique design of the area. Another woman was a few feet in front of him, battling against… shadow-like creatures. Small, creepy things with glowing yellow eyes and seemed to be made of the abyss itself.
She didn’t stop to ponder their existence, or the names of the people she was now taking part in saving. Save the Queen was out from its sheath in one smooth slide and the hardened metal began to hum as Beatrix charged forth. Both her hands wrapped around its handle as she brought the legendary weapon up around her head and then, as she leapt into the fray, she brought it down in a diagonal swipe. The Stock Break tore through three of the beasts in one fell swoop, cutting into their frail forms and reducing them to fluttering black ash. She took a step back, so that she was in line with the black-haired woman who had been leading the fight.
“What are they?” she asked simply, wanting to know the name of her newfound enemies.

a falling star fell from your heart. Tifa wasn't trying to debate with the young male, knowing full well that her attention needed to be on this fight against such overcoming odds. Despite their size, there were strength in their numbers and one mishap could very well cost her. Though as she prepared for the next phase of their attack, it seemed as if something quickly began to power her up, looking over her shoulder briefly to see that the strange had cast some kind of spell upon her. It wasn't much different from materia effects, save for this seeming to make her much agile. This boost was enough to allow her to nearly move at a speed of an unnatural scale, the creatures almost moving slowly in comparsion as she slammed the heel of her foot against one, turning herself to the side as a side kick would launch another into it's fellow heartless.
"Woah...Um...thanks?.."
A smile came over her face, distracting her enough so that she didn't see the trio of shadows as they came at her. Claws clamping against the ground, they soon began to fly within the air preparing to land upon her as something came against them, striking them down with a single slash of their sword. Gaining her senses, arm raised to defend herself from the dark mist that followed from the demise of the beasts, she would see yet another new face. This time it was a woman, appearing close to around her age and fully armored. With a blank expression, Tifa would blink for a moment and then return her gaze back to the mass as they appeared to be starting to spread out as to try and better block any attempt at escape. Some even trying to make their way to Ramza.
"Heartless...not sure of the details...but I think you can see that their monsters...Watch out!!"
Dashing with her newfound speed, she would cut the two creatures off, sliding down as a means to trip them, only to narrowly miss as they seemed to fly at the blonde youth. Ramza Beoulve @generalbeatrix

Location: Traverse Town - Second District Mood: Determined Status: Minor Injuries One more lady had jumped into the fray. She had some pieces of armor on top of her clothes, which allowed her decent protection and also excellent mobility. One quick glance told the Knight of Ivalice that the newcomer was also an extremely powerful warrior. Moreso, there was something different in the newcomer lady. It was hard to explain, but easy to detect, especially for those with similar experience to Ramza's. Her posture, her attacks, her very gaze signaled her as a woman with formal martial training, a woman of military. A commander, most likely. She had a knightly aura, much like Zalbag. In contrast, the other lady, the... erm, ample-bosomed one fought much like a commoner, like someone who learned their way in the streets, who fought for survival, not duty. Naturally, Ramza had learned the value of such people. One's character is far more important than one's birth status. And, were it not for the commoner girl, Ramza would not be alive right now. The horde was spreading, but also running thin. The creatures seemed to act purely on instinct, but a far more malign impulse than most beasts he had squared with in the past. The creatures were not fighting to survive, or even to hunt - they were fighting to kill, at any cost. And, despite the two ladies forming a powerful team, they could be overwhelmed if Ramza decided to save his own skin. That, he would not allow. He hoped back into the square fountain, running torwards the two ladies, just as two creatures avoided the monk lady and rushed against Ramza. The Ivalician didn't stop; instead, he Shouted, his battle cry piercing the heavens as he felt his physical attributes increased. With enhanced agility, he dispatched the two fiends, and two more that tried to intercept him, finally joining with the ladies. "Miladies, I am profoundly sorry for this trouble I have caused thee. I will not abandon those who would fight for me, especially those who risk their lives for my sake without even knowing me. If we fall, we fall together" He declared, sword in hand. The creatures - Heartless, was that it? - started to circle the makeshift party, finally closing all escape routes except those on the sky. As he analyzed the situation, Ramza quickly barked commands. "Form a circle, quick! Each facing one direction, backs turned to each other's" He quickly noticed he was being a bit too forceful on people he had just met. Everything Ramza had done in the past months was lead people, and as such he had forgotten how to deal with those who were not under his direct command. "I mean, that would be my suggestion..."he added, apologetically. TIFA'S TAILWIND: 2 MORE TURNS TAILWIND COOLDOWN: 0 RAMZA'S SHOUT: 3 MORE TURNS @tifa @generalbeatrix ✿ EDEL ✿

Strange new worlds and the war within them. “Heartless…” Beatrix repeated the woman’s answer, testing the word in her own mouth. It felt wrong, like a word that belonged to the lowest pits of Hell. Looking at these creatures, that wasn’t beyond comprehension. She glanced in the direction of the approaching two Heartless, only to watch as the woman tried to trip them up to no avail. They attacked and that’s when the man decided to act, rushing forward and cutting them down with ease. He was quick to extinguish another pair that made to halt his approach to the kill box that the dark haired woman and Beatrix now owned.
He seemed fairly content to chatter away, apologizing and expressing his want to aid them in his own rescue. Beatrix didn’t bother to look back at him; one look away could have meant one of these creatures getting an opening strike on her. She held Save the Queen directly in front of her, firm and stiff with the point upwards. She watched as several of the creatures moved among one another, trying to form an impervious circle before they started to move in on them. Her ears perked as she heard the man shout some orders, as if he had the rank and privilege of commanding them. He was quick to apologize but she’d have to give him a firm word about barking orders during his own rescue. It helped in his favor that his ‘suggestion’ was actually the best possible choice at the time.
Instantly she turned so that her back faced the other two. She was putting a lot of faith in the two of them, handing them the responsibility of not letting the defense fall and leaving her wide open from behind. Her eyes narrowed slightly as she looked over her shoulder at the other woman, who seemed more comfortable beating these creatures with her fists. Herself and the man had weapons so they were capable of putting up a steel defense but not her. “Reflect,” she said simply, casting the spell with a slight wave of her sword. Instantly Tifa would feel yet another buffing air around her body, as if her body had gained invisible armor. Now whenever those Heartless attacked her back, they would find their greedy claws bouncing back the damage.
“No cracks. Shoulder to shoulder. When they charge, hold your ground,” she said, her words authoritative but lacking coldness. If she wanted to get out of this, she needed them to trust her just as she was now forced to trust them.

a falling star fell from your heart. Her call out to the blonde youth seemed to have been enough to get his guard up, even to the point where he had gotten on the offensive. With him seeming to rejoin them, she turned her head towards the armored female, a calm expression resting over her as she seemed to repeat the name she had given the creatures, raising her brow before rubbing the back of her neck. Clearly, neither of these two had any real idea just what they were dealing with here. Of course, she couldn't say she was an expert either on the subject, only that they were a bad sign of things getting bad for everyone.
In hearing the male speak once more, his accent finally clear enough for her to take in, Tifa would place one hand on her hip as she held a brief smile over her lips.
"I take it you're not from around here...either of you...okay..that shouldn't be a problem...once we get outta this mess..."
If they got out. Even with their small numbers, they were still outnumbering the group of three. Preparing herself once again for a brawl with these beasts, the stranger seemed to give out some direction, causing her to look over her shoulder and then back at the creatures as they began to start encircling them. Many were attempting to hide out in the dark, while others seemed to simply stare from a held position. Much like predators, their yellow gaze rested on what was clearly to be their next kill. The idea was to give no opening, placing each of them at each others back as a means to be aware of every angle. While quick to try and save face as to state it were no more than a suggestion, her eyes would stare back to the other female among them, shrugging her shoulders as she held a serious expression.
"I don't have any better plans..."
Doing the same as the others, they all appeared to have sights on at least one side of the area, giving them a good view of their attacks. Even if they did try and fight from shadow, one or more of them would be ready to counter. The Heartless seemed almost weary now, still lacking any real motive to rush in just yet, simply waiting as the group was much more prepared now. It was only at the moment of another spell being cast that Tifa would once again find herself as the targeted precipitant, a blank expression crossing her face before looking over at the woman with a pouting expression.
"Okay...seriously? Could we maybe relax on making me spellbound please?"
Hearing her now giving an order, Tifa would sigh before returning her sights to what was to come, eyes shifting from one side to the next as she held her ground. With almost a soft chirping noise around them, it would soon grow to almost a resonating single voice, finally showing thirty of the miniature creatures rushing in from every angle, pressuring to push them in as they seemed held at the center of the area.
"Thats new...their organizing now...perfect..."
Swaying her arms almost in a quick spiral, the movement and forms would soon activate a glowing orb at the center of her hand, causing a burst of flames to emerge from both as she soon began her defense. The monsters would continue to barrage their perimeter, running into their human made wall as a means to break it down and claim their prize.

Location: Traverse Town - Second District Mood: Determined Status: Minor Injuries The two women apparently accepted his suggestion, putting themselves in the formation. Ramza was thankful for that. He knew he was demanding an enourmour ammount of trust, since they were all literally guarding each other's backs, but anything else would mean the party would be overran by the creatures. In truth, this was still a possibility. But the Knight of Ivalice felt he could trust those girls. One of them seemed experienced at fighting those things, while the recently-arrived lady possessed a might that Ramza had rarely seen elsewhere. The knight woman reminded him a lot of Agrias, in her posture and general demeanor, but seeing her in battle was more reminiscent of the Thunder God himself - which was the highest praise Ramza could ever give to a warrior. And the way she complemented his own command solidified Ramza's theory: She was a veteran warrior, and likely a commander as well. The other girl, meanwhile, was considerably... ruder. Ramza was puzzled on why she complained about receiving support. All three lives were on the line here, and all three depended on the optimal fighting prowess of everyone else. Quite honestly, the complaint sounded a bit selfish. And unfortunately, he wouldn't be able to comply. One thing the Monk girl said, though, caught his attention, the line about Ramza not being from "around here". She said it casually, as if this was a normal occurrence in this wicked, dark place. And also made clear that "here", wherever it was, likely was not Ivalice. According to the Monk, the Knight was also from somewhere else. Ramza initially supposed the Knight could have been someone from Ivalice or maybe Ordalia, Romanda or a neighboring kingdom. But, in truth, he had never seen the garments she wore. Ramza had studied extensively the banners of the many royal families on his world, but never saw any forces that used the garments the woman was wearing right now. The Heartless advanced, knocking Ramza off his divagations. Fortunately, the creatures were individually very weak. With his increased speed and power, Ramza managed to keep them at bay with expert strikes. A plan formed in his head, to break the Heartless formation and hopefully open either an escape route or an opening for his partners to explore, but he needed to thin the lines a bit more before trying it, or it would equate to suicide. He couldn't see what the women were doing, and could only hope they were doing alright. A black vaporous wound ripped open in the empty air behind the hungry legion of Shadows. From it stepped a young man in a blue overcoat bearing a large sack stitched with phosphorescent runic designs. Fussily brushing lingering particles of Darkness that clung to his light brown hair and clothing, Blaise took a minute or two to realize the Second District wasn’t entirely abandoned. Blue eyes opened wide upon spying the importune phalanx forming at the district's entrance. “Waaaah?” A puzzled frown creased boyish features as wave upon wave of dark skittering forms crashed upon that thin brave line. “There’s still stragglers?” Content to let the matter to resolve itself through sheer inertia the mage rummaged though his sack of ill-gotten gains. Luminous gold-blue spheres of inter-planar currency glittered amongst yet more precious gains, soft roseate Heart’s-light, their ache-inducing lambency like that of the sun’s last sublime breath on the horizon. Heartless flowed around the young man in the manner of dark waters swirling around a river rock. They paid him little mind, his weak nearly snuffed out Heart of little consequence next to the three points of blazing incandescence now standing shoulder to shoulder. Looking up from spoils at the clamor of blows continued, the opportunist frowned, puzzlement becoming an evident uncertainty. “Are you mad?” He exclaimed, having anticipated the Heartless would provide more then sufficient cover for his expropriations. Intimidated in the face of valor and a modicum of personal risk, the blue mage steepled his fingers through a series of claw-like gestures. Tiamat, Mother of Wyrms Of serpents, thunder, and the darkened sky Archfiend, Empress of Storms, Delivers us, Shelter us, Devour us Carve for us an obsidian throne on high Discord, protect your children!Cords of azure energy curved sinuously through the Heartless horde, coiling around thrashing limbs and crowning previously featureless semblances in incandescent draconic tattoos. Fists and steel blades now clanged dully against umbral hides of Dragon-scale. With a last gesture the mage cast a glimmering core of emerald light upon the largest Shadow. With sickening undulations the creature swelled the height of man. Its high shriek at the pain of mutation became a deep rumbling hiss. Membranous wings and curved agamid claws rupturing from its body in some profane hatching process. “Fall back!” The transmuter demanded in exasperation. “Why're you so willing to risk your Hearts?” Muttering in nervous consternation, the looter turned to make his way deeper into the Second-District. Strange new worlds and the war within them. General Beatrix glanced in Tifa’s direction, a slight cocking of her head to acknowledge she wasn’t ignoring the hand-to-hand fighter. She seemed far more familiar with this area, going as far as to assume that the two of them weren’t from wherever they were. “No. I am General Beatrix, commander of the Alexandrian royal guard. I know neither this place nor these fiends before us.” She cast a glare at the Heartless that seemed to be regathering their thoughts before resuming their assault. They were confident in taking on a single fighter but apparently adding two more to the mix had confused them. Not the most intelligent of creatures then, she noted mentally.
As for the complaint from the dark-haired woman, Beatrix ignored it. Whining about buffering magic was like the rich complaining about too much gold; she saw no advantage in acknowledging it. Instead, she swung her blade around in front of her, rolled her shoulders back and shifted her feet enough to give her solid grounding. Her eyes darted around as the horde began to expand and advance, their numbers ten times more than the defense. Ten to one weren’t the worst odds that Beatrix had ever faced, her face unprovoked by the daunting task ahead. She heard the man begin his defense, his weapon sliding through the air with meticulous practice. An impressive feat for an outrageously young looking fighter and yet, Zidane had proven himself worth of battle time and time again on Gaia. So who was she to honestly judge?
Her eyes snapped to movement; a shimmering in the air that expanded out into a metaphysical tear. As she watched, a young man walked himself out from it, clearly the owner of such strange magic. The general had to avert her eyes for a moment to slide her weapon in several different directions, slicing several Heartless monstrosities to billowing wisps as she did so. Her gaze returned and now her face twisted in hard curiosity. This man wasn’t looking to aid them from the looks of it, seemingly more content to stand back and revel in his… blue-gold orbs that he plucked from his bag. And the Heartless paid him no mind, shifting around him like a school of fish would move around a water bound boulder. Her good eye narrowed; she was more than experienced to understand that anyone that can stand among an enemy army without danger was not an ally.
But the new entrant’s observance didn’t last for long; he got apparently dismayed over the fact that the three were fighting valiantly. Beatrix lost her gaze of him temporarily as she once again had to put up a staunch defense, her body shifting from side to side. She cut down another small swarm that had made its presence known within her proximity, her speed and tenacity causing a few to back off in surprise. But that was only temporary, as the all-too-familiar sound of chanting caught her ears. A spell… a mage. Unacceptable. She swung her sword forward, its blade not pointing towards the caster. “Holy!” She shouted, prepared to stop both him and the endless wave of Heartless with one, powerful spell.
But nothing happened. There was no immense rush of magic, no glittering orb of sapphire light that pierced the sky and swept the enemies away. She blinked and looked at her sword in confusion, just barely moving in time to swing it down and through a leaping monster. “What?” She hissed between clenched teeth. Why hadn’t it worked?
Unfortunately, she didn’t have time to question or experiment further. For the spell that man had cast began to take effect on the Heartless swarm. Their onyx black forms were painted with magical markings. And as her sword slammed was brought down against the back on one of them, it did not simply cleave it into smoke. The sound of metal on scale echoed familiarly in her ears as Save the Queen ground against the Heartless’ form. She brought her right leg down and forward, kicking the creature with her heel with enough force to drive it backwards, though not enough to defeat it.
Yet more surprises remained, as one of the creatures was further imbued with magic. Its form grew and shook, shrieking as it was morphed against its own will. When the spell had taken full effect, wings sprouted from its torso along with another set of arms. And then the man dared question them in the midst of the carnage, demanding that they retreat. Her head spun to face him, her eyes ablaze with righteous fury. “Who are you to command us and make demands?” she shouted back at him, her voice as chilling and sharp as an icy peak. With that, she rushed forward, bounding off the top of the closest Heartless and leapt into the air above the mutated, winged monster. Save the Queen ignited with energy, the blade humming and glowing with a light nigh unquenchable. As she came down, she swung the weapon in front of her, the Climhazard ripping through the armor of the creature and bisecting it. Beatrix landed on the ground where it had stood, the inky black tendrils of its disgusting life weaving between her limbs. She swung the blade away from her , as if clearing it of the creature’s ichor and then brought it up, so that she held the guard next to her face.
It was clear, despite the overwhelming odds, her heart and spirit were unwavering. She wasn’t backing down.

a falling star fell from your heart. The situation had drastically changed as the plan of working in tangent to finish off the remaining Heartless had been altered with the arrival of a strange young man. Appearing to work some kind of magic spell that seemed to empower the shadows with a mystical like spread of markings across their flesh. It seemed to be making them quite strong, even putting pressure upon Tifa as her strikes were carrying less impact as they had been before. Eyes wide, she would grit her teeth before scanning back towards the wizard, only to see that he was gone as quickly as he had arrived, even going so far as to ignore the calls of the armored female as she yelled out.
"I don't think he really cares all that much..."
Armed raised up to guard from one of the attacks sent her way, she felt her back nudge against that of the blonde male, frowning as she managed to reel herself forwards as she countered much like a boxer within the ring. Keeping to their arrangement was much more challenging, seeming to make things difficult for all of them. Their forms were much more protected, armor clad with dark shades, yet still holding their bright colored eyes that held little sign of any light. They were creatures of instincts, and now their ferocity had only increased as they continued to pepper at the group from each side. Though the real terror remained at command, the winged beast seeming to loom over the rest as it hovered in their direction.
"The minute one of us moves from this spot, we'll get overwhelmed by the rest....Any ideas?"
Tifa would look over her shoulder, shaking off the blow prior, her gloves showing the clawed marks on their surface as even her vest seemed to be falling apart. With another set seeming to rush in, the heroine would soon prepare her next assault, her hands swaying to the side before jumping forwards as the side of her foot would light up, releasing a burst of flames as he knocked her targets back, causing them to clamber across the ground.
"Cause we have them and the big.....Where'd it go?"
It seemed as if the creature had vanished, leaving the unease to settle as it would make its way across the field..and they would be unaware of it. ----------------------

Location: Traverse Town - Second District Mood: Furious Status: Minor Injuries As Beatrix spoke, Ramza now learning her name, it became clear she really wasn't from Ivalice - or the world in general. The young Beoulve was positive that there was no Alexandria anywhere, and yet she claimed to be from there. And, as Ramza suspected, she was a commander - a general, in fact. Amidst the chaos, a new person emerged, a man, as young as Ramza or potentially even younger. The Beoulve heir gasped as the creatures circled the boy; Ramza was sure he was a goner, Ramza too overwhelmed with enemies to save him in time. However, for some reason, the creatures didn't seem to attack him. They circled around him as if the young man did not exist. This, then, filled Ramza with hope - from the clothes, Ramza suspected the man was a magician of sorts, though he did not wear the standard clothes of either the White, Black or Time mages. Still, if the youngster was quick-witted, perhaps he could strike before the Heartless noticed him and save the three. And, indeed, he casted a spell on the fiends. Instead of destroying them, however, the spell made them stronger. Ramza's blade, which cutted the creatures like butter, now ricocheted in impact, incapable of easily penetrating the magical shell that had enveloped them. Enemies that fell in one strike now required four, and the constant clanging made the chaining of slashes much harder. All Ramza could think was: Why? "Cursed be thee! What have either of us done to you?!" Ramza was livid. He had come from a world in which evil was abundant, but purposeful. Gaffgarion tried to kill the Princess for money. The Church wanted power, and so did the Lucavi. One could understand evil actions done for a reason. This, however, was even worse - it was evil for evil's sake, putting the lives of three strangers in risk just because he could. As the young man gave them their back, the Knight of Ivalice memorized the face. Someday, he would make that youngster pay for this.
Now, however, the focus was in saving his newfound allies, as well as himself. One of the creatures was enchanted more than the others, growing in size and might, as well as acquiring wings. In an impressive move, she leaped into the air, splitting the creature in half with a powerful strike, immediately protecting the group from the most dangerous foe.
But, as she did that, she broke the formation. The Heartless rushed from that position, eager to flank Ramza and the bare-knuckled fighter. At the same time, the Beoulve heir felt the women, whose name he still didn't know, bounce against his back, cornered by the creatures.
A split-second decision was made. He never tried using this technique this way, but he had to try.
"Don't move!" He ordered the Monk girl, pulling her closer by the waist. Such sudden and uninvited contact was pretty rude, but Ramza didn't have time to process politeness right now. He needed her as close to him as possible in order for his attack to not hurt her. "Chirijiraden!" he exclaimed, raising his blade to the air. The ground around him seemed to explode with energy, destroying the eager fiends that had rushed first. Fortunately, his idea seemed to work - the explosion left him and Tifa intact. Ramza had never used the technique to protect something other than himself, but apparently it was safe to do so if they were close enough.
The other heartless were forced to wait in place until the attack subsided. With the technique, Ramza had bought him and the Monk a second of relief and re-established a perimeter, as well as giving Beatrix enough time to return to the formation, should she so desire. However, he needed another plan, and fast - he was saving Chirijiraden to break the heartless lines before the man interfered, and it would be a while before he was able to use his technique once again. "Sorry for handling you that way, Milady", he apologized to the Monk, blushing a little. Finally, by his calculations, the effect of Tailwind on the Monk had ended. With two quick hand gestures, he renewed the spell, increasing the Monk's speed. He did the same on Beatrix, which he hadn't before, increasing her agility with Tailwind

The mostly evacuated Second District was eerily quiet, garish neon lights stark against an eternally nighttime sky. Up there were some constellations he knew, celestial patterns of fate each governed by its proper Scion. Since time immemorial the sages had ascribed layers of meaning to the minute pinpricks of light above Ivalice. What would those luminaries think if they saw this sky, resplendent with constellations completely unknown, outside that comfortable order that gave the world a veneer of rationality? Look away and declare it blasphemy? Invent a menagerie of new myths? Blaise was content to just lets those stars remain nameless, too overwhelmed by the crippling sense of cosmic smallness those unsung lights evinced. The mage lowered his eyes from the heavens back to his iniquitous work. A man’s body, an unfortunate who’d been too slow in the evacuating, was already starting to de-coporealize into inky darkness. Blaise knelt beside the impending casualty, withdrawing a pale blue crystal from the folds of his coat. Holding the pebble-sized auracite fragment near to the dissolving body, the sorcerer mentally reached out to what little remained of the man’s Anima, drawing that faltering Heart into the vessel. Noting the crystal’s hue darkening to a tell-tale sanguine rosette color, Blaise nodded in satisfaction. The Heartless hadn’t left much, but ever little bit counted. He then attended to more material matters, searching pockets and clothing folds for petty valuables, coins, spheres, and baubles. What’d once been a living man crumpled into vaporous ashes at his touch, just another tiny tragedy in the ongoing Heartless plague. The looter stowed his gains and attended to another one of the fallen. The shadow beings didn’t harry his unsentimental work, having all been drawn towards the commotion at the district’s entrance. Even if they possibly threatened his purpose, Blaise supposed he should be thankful to those three incandescent souls. Heartless were beings of raw hunger and strength. The monk and two knights apparently possessed Anima so potent that Blaise didn’t even have to cow opportunistic Shadows through a tiring display of dominance. It seemed the way of the multiverse that rising Darkness attracted bright defiance like fireflies at eventide. No matter, they’d retreat to the First District soon enough as the enchanted tide pressed them back, and he could attempt to extract this World’s Anima in peace. Blaise’s confidence and looting were unpleasantly disturbed at the sound of explosions audible even in Second District’s main courtyard. Had he underestimated their power? If so…he’d wasted far too much time attending to mere baubles. Blaise stood and looked towards Gizmo Shop’s clocktower within whose recesses the path to this worlds Heart, wellspring of its Anima, supposedly lay. The mage’s hand tightened on a long jagged shard of auracite. He’d have to get moving. Strange new worlds and the war within them. Blaise’s face was something Beatrix would not soon forget; the hidden enemy that always revealed themselves at critical moments was always remembered. Even thinking about it brought the image of the smirking Kuja to her mind, albeit temporarily. Her hands tightened around her blade’s handle, the leather creaking from her strength. When they got out of this, the Alexandrian general was going to hunt him down and get answers for his transgressions. But there was the small task of beating back the crashing waves of the Heartless.
She hopped back into the duo of warriors, having left their flanks open for a moment longer than she intended. She had quickly deduced that removing the large, mutated Heartless from the equation was far more pertinent than fending off the smaller ones. Droplets of rain were a nuisance but when a hail stone entered the mix, real damage could be done. Plus, based on what she had observed in the two other fighters, they were more than capable to hold back the caucus for the amount of time it took her to fell the buffed creature. She managed to time her return almost perfect, as the young man unleashed a devastating spell that brought forth energy from the ground and released it in every direction around them. It reduced the front lines of the Heartless to fading clouds of shadow and forced the remaining forces to pause their advance, if only for the moment.
“Not bad,” she commended him, giving him a nod as she swung her sword down in front of her. From the tip, a bright light emerged, accompanied by a soft whine, like a sword’s edge running across an anvil. Sapphire wisps materialized around each one of them and wrapped around their bodies, healing the minor injuries that they had acquired and relieving a portion of their fatigue. With the Cura effect beginning to fade, she scanned the immediate area for an answer to their predicament. Having the fountain to their back was advantageous but only to a point -- if they got too reckless and careless, they would be cornered with nowhere to run. They needed a solid defense for their backs but a raised advantage on their front.
She hadn’t seen much when she leapt into the air in terms of tactically proficient places. The raised levels around them gave them height over their foes but it also left their rear guard completely unmanned. With the higher planes and the buildings around them, the main walkway of this town’s sector was essentially a kill box. But hadn’t there been something beyond that? She’d only caught sight of it briefly while she was airborne but there looked to be another raised platform, set against a tall building just north of them. She hadn’t noticed any staircase but that wouldn’t really matter in the long run, if they planted themselves on the ledges and beat back their opponents. Spells wore off after a time and no doubt the villain’s magic would only boost this creature’s for an allotted period. They just had to hold off until they could properly dispatch them.
She mentally formed the route and then turned slightly so she could look over her shoulder at the other two. She was in time to watch the man, once again, cast yet another spell -- this one that lifted her energy and made her feel far less weighty than she did before. Perfect; it was like he could sense what she was thinking. “Up those stairs, we can jump to a raised platform. It has a building to its back so we can hold the high ground and keep the forces at bay. These creatures lack a higher intelligence from what I can see but they’ll tear us apart if we try to push through them. So we go over,” she explained quickly, pointing her sword to the stairs closest to them. “We go now or we’ll be overwhelmed. Let’s move.”
She would wait for their confirmation and then she would spin back towards the stairs and charge into the now-approaching swarm. Just as she was about to ram body first into the first line of Heartless, she jumped over their reaching arms. With the aid of the the magical spell, and years of military practice, she landed on the raised head of a Heartless and used it to bound up onto the stairs, racing up the stone railing that accompanied the steps. She came to a sliding halt as she cleared the vertical rise and turned, planting herself as a means of defense while her companions got by her. Counting on the fact that they saw the raised area and leapt to it first, she would follow right after, swiping her Save the Queen at a Heartless that launched itself at her and knocking it away. Then she would leap across the gorge between the two rises, landing on the edge and turning on her heel to face the direction they had come.
She’d been correct but there was far more area on this platform than she anticipated. They’d have to spread out. “Form up. One on each edge. Battle them back, end whatever one’s you can. The moment you see that abysmal armor fade, go on the offense.” She turned to look at them briefly, giving each one a confirming and confident nod. “We’ve got this.”
