"Second District huh... Yeah I don't think I've covered any area like that. Let's give it a try and see!"
Interesting, so it only responded to threats, and wasn't a manual weapon? A bit unconventional, but perhaps useful in it's own ways. Though how it could recognize a threat was something the mechanic couldn't quite wrap her head around. Perhaps it was something related to mystics... Well, that was all way beyond her expertise, so it wasn't worth thinking too hard over. She would make a mental note of it as they traveled to the second district. Though it wasn't much of a journey, thankfully.
The Second district was quite a bit brighter than the rest of this town from what she had seen of it so far, all due to the various neon signs advertising the stores that lined the area. She took in the sights as they weaved and walked through the small crowds of people perusing the district. It wasn't shoulder to shoulder thankfully, but definitely busier than what she expected. Perhaps this was why the rest of this town was mostly quiet.
"Interesting...This is such a wild mixture of architectural styles! I suppose it's owed in part due to the circumstances of this town...Wonder if there's any Spiran architecture being used."
She mused aloud to herself, curious if perhaps some of her own world's inhabitants might have at one point or another ended up in this place. It certainly didn't show in this distract in either case. But her thoughts were drawn away as the device began to give off a light ticking sound, indicating that it was getting a strange reading.
"Well, looks like we've got a live one! Keep your eyes open for anything suspicious... There's a light level fluctuation happening nearby!"
The Spiran Mechanic scanned the area carefully, looking for anything at all that would explain the anomalous readings. It seemed normal enough, people were exiting stores, sitting on park benches, and speaking to one another as if nothing was any stranger than when they had arrived in this district. But all that was betrayed as she spotted a small group of people entering the Gizmo shop, and felt as though time slowed down as a strange person among that group seemed to be looking directly at her, as if aware of what she was doing, rather than just looking about as a harmless citizen, it was just a young boy? But... It felt like so much more than that. As if behind this normally average child was something relevant to her search. But why?
"Huh...?"
Dread. The only thing the mechanic could feel in this moment was a strange, primal fear, as if following them would be a bad idea. As if she didn't want to know what exactly would be revealed from continuing this search. It was...A new sensation, a terrifying feeling. It took everything in her power just to move, but with some calm, deep breaths, she managed to push herself forward, towards the gizmo shop. The ticking sound from the device slowly growing more frequent with every step.
As if completely tuning out the world around her, she had wandered to the shop's entrance in what felt like an instant to the Spiran herself, though to outside observers, she had been slowly shambling towards the place, as if in a trance. All in the blink of an eye, Ayami rather suddenly came to her senses, "waking up" from whatever possessed her to go to the Gizmo shop. That strange feeling of dread that had completely paralyzed her and made ruins of her nervous system vanished almost as quickly as it had appeared. To make matters even more strange, the device that had been giving off the anomalous readings had suddenly gone silent, indicating that whatever it was detecting was gone.
"... What was that...?"
The mechanic shook her head, trying to regain her composure after the odd situation she had found herself in. She tried to smile it off to keep anyone from worrying, but it was definitely clear something strange happened, even if she tried to pretend it was fine.
"Uh, well... I guess if we've come this far, might as well check this shop out!"
