16 (Born on Glacemens IX 825, where Glacemens is the equilevant of June, so June 9 of year 825)
Class Zero Cadet
Arecia Al-Rashia [adoptive mother]
Ace, Deuce, Trey, Cinque, Sice, Seven, Eight, Nine, Tiz (Tohno Mahoroha), Jack, Queen, King, and Joker (Lean Mapelmann) [adoptive siblings]
As people note about her, Cater is quick and straightforward. She knows what she wants and this causes her to be impulsive and be reckless. Always confident she can handle things and get what she wants, she is honest and doesn't beat around the bush. Instead her straightforwardness will can become a problem to herself and she easily can start a fight. This won't let her down and she faces her problems head-on.
As per her motto “trust your instinct, don't think”, Cater isn't much of a strategist or a thinker. She never plans things, prefering the direct route. Very competitive, she doesn't like losing and will be blunt towards others. She especially doesn't like it when others nose into her business or are very intellectual and explain things too thoroughly. This latter causes her to easily bump with people like Trey, who explain things very often and into detail. While she doesn't like it when people nose into her things, she can be nosy and gossips about others herself. She is fairly informative about other people.
Cater was adopted by the Archsorceress of the Dominion of Rubrum and head of the Sorcery Division of Akademeia. Since the age of eight she was trained in wielding a magicite pistol and the use of magic spells. She initially became a member of Class Tenth, donning the black mantle before she ended up in Class Zero with her other adoptive siblings. No matter which Class she was part of, they all fought against the Milites Empire when they would try to attack them.
During the invasion of the Empire, she was part of Class Zero and joined the resistance operation called “Operation Apostle”. She was one of the remaining twelve of the 600,104,971 experiments done by Arecia, her adoptive mother. Arecia Al-Rashia had abandoned four of her experiments that remained alongside the twelve. These were Machina, Rem, Joker, and Tiz. Operation Apostle was meant to make the remaining twelve, or one of them, Agito. Becoming Agito meant to become the messiah that was prophesied to appear at the time of Tempus Finis, or the calamity of apocalypse that is said to destroy the world of Orience.
During the invasion of the Milites Empire, Class Zero was deployed to restore power to the Vermilion Bird Crystal. The imperials used crystal jammers in an attempt to stop the Crystal's power and end the power of magic for the Dominion. As they liberated the capital, the class came enrolled with Kurasame Susaya as their commanding officer. This didn't sit right with the cadets and the class attempted to defy him with Cater even shooting at him when Kurasame underhanded Nine. However, their new officer repelled all their attacks and impressed them. With them moving into the dorms, Cater asked if this was mother's orders before calling him a bigheaded jerk and leaving.
When they took on the Code Crimson mission, Class Zero was sent to save the civilians who lived at the stronghold, but there were none alive. As Cater reported how they couldn't save them, she also brought to attention how sick she was with the empire. As they lacked resources, the Milites Empire never took prisoners as it meant requiring to use their few resources to also these prisoners. As such they murdered all in their invasions.
While outside missions, Cater liked to gossip about Kurasame and made comparisons between his old band and the current Class Zero. She revealed that she knows a lot of the legendary Agito Cadets despite their memories always being wiped of the people who died. However, she felt the fact that the people who died would be wiped from their memories a blessing as it meant they would not be stuck in the past. Making it easier to let go.
As they went on more missions, Cater showed more knowledge on the old classes of Akademeia, including of an old member of Class Zero known as Qator Bashtar. A person who fled and was now an important figure within the Milites Empire. She hoped to attack Qator at some point. At some moments, Cater would experience moments of déjà vu and brought this up with Arecia. Though, Arecia assured her that she was fine while this was likely an effect from her experiments.
Soon they were sent to sabotage the magitek armor program, during this mission Cater came to confront the l'Cie Nimbus before the group get orders to cease fire. This was due to negotiations being made and the Milites Empire proposed a peace treaty. Class Zero disagreed with this treaty as the empire were the initial aggressor, so had no right to talk of peace. Still, the treaty went on as the Class came to meet Queen Andoria from the Kingdom of Concordia. Andoria explained to them that peace was the Will of the Crystals and opposition would only lead to Tempus Finis from the prophecy.
Still the Class struggled to accept this outcome. As Cater explored Ingram, the capital of the Milites Empire, Eight spoke of having a hunch that they were being under surveillance, but Cater reassured him it was due to their status as Agito Cadets. It was the distrust of the imperials that made them being watched. They soon spotted a mysterious dominion quaestor that was talking to an imperial trooper, but quickly dismissed this.
When Queen Andoria was assassinated, Class Zero was immediately blamed for it and they were let into a trap. They were unable to contact Central Command during this as they escaped the ambush. Facing off against Queen Andoria's aide, Celestia, they were able to convince her that they weren't the ones who assassinated the queen. Celestia then helped them escape the city.
When Trey tried to lecture the others about the Concordian kings, Cater cut him off and soon an argument started as Machina held the others the perpetrators of killing his brother, Izana. Machina marched off while the rest remained in the deserted house. When Cater mentioned the déjà vu she's been having, Trey started to try and explain this phenomenon. This infuriated Cater, not wanting Trey to bring up his explanations on things, but it had made her somewhat troubled. Having decided to stay put, they remained there until Machina returned in the morning. Deuce exclaimed that the COMM was working again as they managed to reach Central Command.
Kurasame had them rescued and an investigation was started. Class Zero found the accusations they were getting ridiculous as Kurasame implied that they had turned off their own COMM to avoid being contacted. While back in Akademeia, Cater continued to remember Trey's talk about her déjà vu and was spooked by it. Growing fearful of these feelings, she spoke Arecia about it again, but she dismissed them again and told her she was healthy.
After the mission to reclaim Eibon, the class were confused to see Machina missing before getting the mission to fight against the forces of the Milites Empire and Kingdom of Corcordia, the two having joined forces. Together with Lord Zhuyu, a Vermilion Bird Primus l'Cie, they were sent with an airship fleet to fight against the Concordian dragons. Kurasame would, meanwhile, join with others to the Militeri border to join the Vermilion Bird Secundus l'Cie, Lady Caetuna, and summon a Verboten Eidolon.
Again facing Celestia, now as Shinryu Celestia, Class Zero secured victory before being recalled as reinforcements on the other front to destroy the crystal jammer the Milites Empire had set up. Thanks to Arecia's experiments, the class was able to use magic without the use of the crystal, making them the best choice to deal with the jammer. As they finished their mission and Lady Caetuna summoned Alexander, the lives of Kurasame and many other cadets were given to complete the ritual and Lady Caetuna ended in crystal stasis. Alexander obliterated the Militesi forces, ending the current conflict at the border.
Returning to Akademeia, Naghi joined Class Zero and Machina had returned. When Cater tried to tease with him as she tried to tell him not to worry about Rem too much, Machina brushed her off and announced how he alone would protect Rem, the dominion, and all of Orience. Showing his great distain towards Class Zero, he alienated his classmates only further and further.
Upon reaching the final showdown against the Milites Empire, Class Zero is sent to conquer the imperial capital. As Machina had disappeared again, the class went without him and soon bested General Qator Bashtar. With the empire fallen and the whole of Orience united under the Vermilion Bird banner, Class Zero returned to Akademeia only to find everyone there to be slain and the dominion commanders gone.
Tempus Finis had begun and when other cadets who returned with them found out about the Code Crimson missions, they turned against them. Class Zero was blamed for starting the apocalypse and Rem's illness was reaching its final stages. Their mother, Arecia, explained to the cadets how they had lived according to the Will of the Crystals as was recorded in the Akashic Record. However, the souls were now released and they would be able to write their own ending, having the power to decide how they live or die.
Pondering on how they could battle the beings that were now slaughtering the people of Orience, they heard from Naghi how Cid Aulstyne, the man who led previously the Milites Empire, was headed for the sanctuary where the Rursus were coming from. Recalling the Nameless Tome and the many legends and myths, the class suspected him from planning to become Agito.
Deciding to infiltrate the sanctuary despite not having any chance to be revived, Class Zero would go to Pandæmonium. Cater was shocked during this time of how ill Rem was getting, but remained motivated to save the world, wanting to have a better world to wake up to. As such, Rem remained behind in Arecia's office back in Akademeia.
Taken to Pandæmonium by Celestia, the cadets headed to the top of the temple while Cid's voice guided them. It was there that the Vermilion Bird Crystal asked them to become l'Cie. Whether they accepted this and passed away against the endless onslaught of Rursan Reavers in which Orience would be destroyed, if they accepted their inevitable deaths and sacrificed their lives to bring down the Rursan Arbiter, who was Cid now possessed by the fal'Cie Gala, or perhaps Cater survived and lived peacefully onward with the rest of Class Zero.
Memories of the end of the fight against the Rursus remained unclear, but Cater soon found herself within a new world while she was napping on the terace. Seeing a mansion, she remained confused on where she truly was, but faced off against many monsters she did. There she fought these monsters while trying to find her way around. After a little while she would find some familiar faces.
Defeating a few monsters, Cater found Rem and King to her surprise alongside several other people. Looking at Adelbert Steiner and Yang Fang Leiden, she was confused as she asked if they were circus performers. Then Rem started to explain the current situation to her before she understood why the two men were dressed funny. Believing they should go separate ways to close Torsions, Cater ran off while Mog shouted after her that she hadn't finished explaining.
Having run off, Cater couldn't find any Torsions before the group found their way back to her. Since she felt she was dealing quite well with the monsters around the place, she didn't understand why she should come with the others, but with the help of Wakka, Firion, and Penelo she agreed as she found herself being really popular. After closing a Torsion herself, she was scolded by Vincent Valentine and soon was being compared to Yuffie Kisaragi by Galuf Halm Baldesion. With Vincent and Galuf picking on the two girls, they got annoyed before the others leave and Yuffie and Cater talk to each other. They understood they had some simularities and started to grow a fondness for each other.
"Hmmm… Maybe it’s déjà vu. I just feel like I know this place."
"We could go beat him up, right?"
"If it's me, there's no problem!"
"Huh? Oh, thanks. ...So, uh, what's up with the get-up? You guys circus performers or something?"
"Plus, the monsters here don't seem to like being shot in the face, so I think I can handle things myself."
"Come on, you're embarrassing me. I mean, it's tough being popular sometimes."
"Ugh. Give it a rest. I'm tired of everyone trying to lecture me on what to do."
Cater looked around, this time it appeared to be some weird-ass castle she was standing in front of. Looking over the entire building from below, it looked weird and illogical. Who even managed to build a place like this? The girl was still curious, however and looked over the front before turning around to see what was perhaps the land around it. Instead he found some floating islands in the air and... waterfalls? Are those going the opposite way?
Her confusion became bigger when she saw some went up and others went down. The floating pieces of rock was one thing, but gravity-defying waterfalls? "No wonder this place looked crazy," she voiced, uncertain what to make of all this. With a simple shrug, she spun on her leg back to the castle and started to walk in a quick pace towards it.
Not like she could do anything by standing around all day. It was time to go inside and ask people what world she was in. Or what their prefered dressing code was. Considering the outside, she'd assume it came closer to the appearance of jesters. More circus artists, like everyone dressed strange these days.
