✎ tag: @evilqueen both were silent. there were ways for kicking and screaming. Vani was sick to her stomach. What was she supposed to do? There was no way that she had the strength of will to lead their group, Zest was the strong one. He had the charisma to keep everyone going. How could the three of them continue fighting if their leader had fallen at the feet of their greatest enemy? She should have been there. She should have jumped in after the Warrior. Maybe then the two of them could have made it out of the obvious fight alive instead of Zest being alone in what were likely his last moments.
The normally emotionless thief felt the grief washing over every cell in her body. There was no other explanation. If Garland had Zest's helm, then the Warrior of Light had to have fallen. There was no other explanation. Zest would have never allowed Garland to take the helmet willingly. So, Zest had to be incapacitated. If that was the case, Garland would not have left him alive. The same gruesome picture kept burning itself on the inside of her eyes. She couldn't shake it away. Her eyes drifting to the helm in her left hand briefly as she ran as fast as she could muster to the meeting place that she and Alwyn had agreed upon.
Her eyes landed immediately on Alwyn as she cleared the brush leading her back to the bridge. "Fin. We need to leave. Now." She commanded as she stopped by his side, her cheek stained a bit by the tears she'd let fall to mourn their loss. "I don't have time to explain..." She knew that Alwyn would have a million questions for her. Especially if he noticed the familiar helm in her left hand. But, the important thing was that her trusty masume was gripped tightly in her right signalling she was ready for an attack. There was no doubt that the dark sorceress and Garland would be right on her heels. They had no time.

‘Alwyn’ seemed to stand beside the Thief as she arrived to their previously agreed meeting place panting in her exhaustion. Her greeting was received but as ‘Alwyn’ turned to face the thief any semblance of ‘Alwyn’ melted away to reveal that coy wickedly smiling face of none other than the mistress of all Evil herself. ”Why my dear, you so rudely intruded upon my castle and did not even introduce yourself to me. You helped the king best my interviewing champion, and you expect to flee to safety within my dominion? Whatever were you thinking?”
She fully revealed her form as the Thief would have remembered her, dark magic billowing around her and unfurling like smoke from her robes and the feathers at her collar. Maleficent lifted a polished fingernail toward the tree tops to beckon her familiar forth. ”You’ve done well my pet.” she promised her crow familiar as he drifted down to land upon the perch she provided. She offered an affectionate scratch over the bird’s head before it waddled up her arm to glower at the Thief from her shoulder.
”My my, what trouble you’ve gotten yourself into.” Maleficent feigned a lamenting tone.

✉ notes: i hope you like this template!╾ mizo both were silent. there were ways for kicking and screaming. The thief was haing a bit of an emotion conundrum with the truth that one of her dearest comrades had fallen. The helm in her hand proving the whole thing. It was soul crushing and it took a lot of her energy to keep herself from falling to her knees and crying out in pain and anger. However, she needed to get Alwyn to safety. That was her current purpose and her drive to keep herself going. She needed to get the youngest of her part to safety so that they could regroup and locate Rojo. They couldn't let Garland take the red mage's life as well. She would not allow it.
As the young woman reached out to touch the man's shoulder, the man practically melted away. Was this one of his magicks? Sadly, the smirk on his face proved that it was not Alwyn at all. The thief took a few steps back as her friend's image changed to reveal the true form. It was the sorceress that had been colluding with Garland! Obviously Mickey had not escaped her grasp. It was quite a shame. Here she was, facing a mage just as powerful as Alwyn. Or, that was the assumption that she made from the aura the woman gave off and the abilities that she has seen thus far.
Maleficent spoke as the thief reached her right hand back to grip her trusted blade. She began by calling the thief out on her rudeness of simply appearing, causing a mess, and attempting to leave. Vani remained completely silent as she watched the woman. Maleficent summoned her pet bird before she fussed over it. A fitting familiar for the witch. It wasn't long before she explained to Vani that she'd gotten herself in a world of trouble. What the woman didn't realize was that Vani was one of four that saved her world from complete destruction. That she had already lost one of her companions and it seemed that this evil being had taken Alwyn. That was not going to stand.
"Where did you take Alwyn, witch." She half threatened as she pulled her blade from it's sheath at her side and placed Warrior's helm carefully on the ground at her feet, keeping her knees slightly bent before moving to push her hood back to reveal her emotionless stare. No one was going to harm her Alwyn.

For the thief's threatening tone and her less than flattering name for the power that stood before her, all that was received was a raised brow and humming chuckle like the eeriest bells ever struck in the distance. The truth was that Maleficent had seen this friend of the thief's in her memories. The young woman projected her purpose for all the dark of the worlds to see and she made the heartless rabid for a taste. That she wasn't aware of that was her own problem and what would likely claim her heart in the end. The Dark Fairy's eyes flickered toward the helm that the thief seemed to be clutching with such desperation. It seemed to glow with significance and Maleficent wondered at it for a moment, at just what its significance was to the girl.
In the end, Maleficent had no idea where this Alwyn actually was. "You'd do well to comply if you truly wish to see your friend again." Maleficent told her crossly, her eyes narrowed on the girl. "Sheath your weapon if you please." though the words might have sounded like one, the tone made that nothing like a request. Maleficent did not fear a blade. She did not fear an entire troop's worth of blades. She'd stood against armies before. There were much more efficient struggles for her to best. For the Mistress of all Evil, deception and coyness were reflexive.

✉ notes: i hope you like this template!╾ mizo both were silent. there were ways for kicking and screaming. The laugh was certainly impressive, the thief could give her that much. This woman was certainly of the darker variety. It was obvious from her colluding with Garland and attacking the mouse. However, Vani truly believed that she could make her escape and come back with help for the mouse. But, the witch had complicated matters. Alywn was missing and her only lead was Maleficent. She debated what options she had as the witch spoke, offering to reunite Vani with the mage if she complied and sheathed her blade.
That was not going to happen.
There were too many things racing through the woman's head. With the knowledge that Zest had been slain by Garland and the possibility of Maleficent aligning with the beast, she wasn't pleased. Now, knowing that Maleficent may have been involved in capturing Alwyn, she was angry. Vani was very protective of her allies. They were the closest thing to family that she had and she was only just reunited with them. So, she did not comply with the witch's demands. She stood defiant as she watched the woman, debating her next move. If she was fast enough, maybe she could get the jump on her.
Vani was quick, casting FAST on herself as she used her back foot to push back hard against the ground. She kept low as she dashed at Maleficent. She would make her talk if she had to. Once she got close, she slashed out with her blade toward the woman's abdomen. Though, she didn't stop there, continuing forward to go past the witch before using her opposite foot to dig into the dirt, turning herself to face in the direction of Maleficent. She would assess how much damage she inflicted and would re-evaluate her situation from there.

The rat was quick to act which was ironically pitifully predictable. Oh the girl was certainly fast enough to strike Maleficent but the dark fairy had no intention of truly showing that weakness. A shred of the woman's inky black robe fluttered to the forest floor in her wake and Maleficent turned to face the blade wielding street urchin. It wasn't that the girl struck but that she was striking out of fear. Fear Maleficent could work with. It left gaping holes in the heart for the right harbingers to seep in and Maleficent was just the evil for the job. "Rage cannot hide the stench of fear in your heart, little rat. It beckons the dark and it strengthens my influence."
Glowing snake-like eyes seemed to surround the girl as the wild magic crackled to life. The forest itself seemed to loom taller than before, and the sinister woman seemed taller like an elongated shadow that didn't belong on the wall. The dark of fear in the girl's heart was palpable enough to mold and twist and shape into an overwhelming sense of hopelessness. The dark would be cold and futile to resist, the wild magic brutal. The urge to sleep would be perhaps the most overwhelming of all and the looming figure would watch over it all like some spectral entity of the cosmic umbra.

✉ notes: i hope you like this template!╾ mizo both were silent. there were ways for kicking and screaming. Thief stood her ground as she watched the sorceress turn to face her. She was looking for any signs of doing any damage to the being before her. It seemed like her attack did nothing to the witch. This was absolutely ridiculous! How did she seem to come out without a scratch. She was sure that she felt some resistance when she attacked.
Vani was a bit uncomfortable at the moment as she watched Maleficent face her. The woman spoke and Vani felt her eyes narrow, not a word leaving her lips in response. What did she mean about the darkness? There was no fear in her heart. Concern and worry? Maybe.
That is when she felt the temperature drop. It was overwhelmingly cold. She felt that if she looked, maybe she could see her breath. Her eyes feeling heavy. What had the witch done? This was some sort of black magic. She was sure if Alwyn was here, he'd certainly be able to counteract this spell she must have cast. Thief was not very powerful when it came to black magic. She decided she needed to step it up and fight fire with fire... and sleep with sleep.
Vani raised her sword and cast Fire directly at Maleficent, dashing toward Maleficent as she summoned the flame. The warmth was nice with how cold she was feeling. She didn't even care if it made contact with Maleficent. The attack was more for her to warm up and to hopefully divert her attention. The thief felt her speed fading as she attempted to swipe her blade at Maleficent and cast Slep as she made her attempt to dash by the witch. She could feel the speed leave her system and the fatigue hitting her even hard as she stopped to face Maleficent again. She was not going down without a fight.

"Unbeleivable!" Maleficent cackled with amusement at the assinine hopelessness of it all. This woman's weapons at least in the way of spells were small weak versions of the magic the dark fairy was privy to herself. That flame came toward the sorceress and she waved the sleeve of her robe out. The little rat's spell disappeared amongst its brighter counterpart in Maleficent's own lime green fire. The rat also attempted to counter that sleep spell. There was only a moment where the fairy found herself feeling heavier. She was easily able to stave it off. The last spell was something the rat cast on her self, no doubt something to assist with her speed, but it mattered not. Speed wouldn't help someone who couldn't move. Maleficent was finished playing around. She was no cat. Her choice in prey was final.
The orb on the dark fairy's staff glowed as did her eyes and the entire forest seemed to bend at attention to her whim. She'd cast her Briars before on this realm and she'd do it again. There was a good reason most of the fools in this world wouldn't go into these woods. From the ground the soil turned and and roiled, the trees they shook and uprooted. The grass pulled from it's weakened stance fluttered to the aimless ground as great vines the size of horses and their men curled and coiled up from the ground. They grew at rapid speed and from them thick thorns shot viciously out. Tinier vinelets coiled from their parent vines grabbing at wayward wrists and ankles whilst thorns bit and tore into whatever they could. This was the truth of Maleficent's power, the twisted rage of the dark and this forest was hers to command.

✉ notes: i hope you like this template!╾ mizo both were silent. there were ways for kicking and screaming. Thief had sorely underestimated the full strength of the sorceress she was facing. The impression she had was that she could out maneuver the witch and overpower her. That was the true mistake. Her magical power was far beyond her own skills. That became quite apparent when the ground practically began to shake. It forced Vani to pause her movements to figure out what was currently happening. These were abilities that she had never witnessed before. Vani had no idea what was coming at her now.
That's when the briar's erupted from the earth and shot up indiscriminately. It was truly as sight to see as she began to back up. Maybe this was the best time to escape. She would simply need to return to locate Alwyn when she could. Maybe Alwyn had seen the threat and escaped so that he wasn't captured. That was always a possibility. However, she wasn't going to get that far.
A vine had managed to find it's way to her ankle, wrapping fast around her right leg. It was sheer adrenaline that she felt flood her veins as it practically tugged at her. The thief's attention was pulled from Maleficent as she brought her blade down fast at the vine, needing to swipe twice to break free. But, they were too fast. She felt the next one grab her left wrist as another looped it's way around her waist. There wasn't a thing she could do as she began to struggle again the plants. This was not a good predicament in the slightest. Especially since Garland was nearby. It couldn't end like this.
Vani attempted to shift either arm to be able to cast a spell. Any spell. Something to buy her another few moments to figure out how to get out of this situation. Sadly, she wasn't able to move her arms any to cast any magic. It was a downfall of her learning magic secondary to her other skills. She needed the motion to channel the magic. Alwyn would have easily been able to cast it in this situation. Vani wasn't as talented. The thief struggled, working to attempt using the smallest motion of her sword to try and find a way to cut her dominate hand free. There was a chance she could get free if she could just free her arm.

Maleficent watched with a leering grin wide on her angular face as the red rat toiled and struggled against the briar vines. Every twist dragged sharp thorns across skin scratching and gouging her midsection and arms. She was hurting herself more by struggling and Maleficent's serpentine eyes merely stared projecting her amusement in an eerie Faen glow.
From the dark fairy's shoulder another pair of eyes seemed to watch with an almost human interest intelligent and cold coming from the eyes of her crow familiar. His feathers ruffled only mildly disturbed by all the roiling movement of the vines around them but the forest knew its master. It had no intentions of taking its queen into the soil.
The red rat didn't show signs of stopping her struggle anytime soon either and Maleficent drew in a tired breath. Vines that barred her path moved out of her way as she stepped toward the thief girl who seemed to be sufficiently indisposed. The older woman lifted a polished nail to lift the red head's chin to bring her their eyes to meet. Maleficent's eyes were a blaring bright green that seemed to blot out all around them. Only her voice seemed to sound or seemed to matter as she spoke exerting her darkest influence on the girl. "Rest now, girl. I will yet find a use for you." She filled the girl with her otherworldly glow before releasing her chin and snapping her fingers. The vines lowered her form to the forest floor and Maleficent turned to some of her goblin minions that were daring enough to skulk in the shadows of the trees. "Bind her and lock her in the cells. We leave tonight."
