The sky blossomed into a brilliant orange as the sun rose up over the skyline, bathing the sleepy town in light. Ironic that the place known only as Twilight Town would be caught in the morning's dawn. But as the residents of the town stirred, so too did a stranger to this place. Felicia groaned softly as she raised her head, blinking a few times to clear her vision. The memory of how she'd arrived at this place was fuzzy for the time being, though when she rose from her seated position and glanced around at her surroundings, it started to come back to her.
She'd rolled into town rather late last night, and without a single Munny to her name, she hid herself away in one of the town's many alleyways, draped herself in her cape, and settled in for the night. But now that she was awake she had a different set of priorities: Namely feeding herself before she starved. But without any money on hand, that might prove difficult. A defeated sigh rolled out of the woman as she pulled herself out of the alley and started to walk down the street.
Find the marketplace. Take what you need. Kill any who resist.
Hard pass. As usual, she ignored the Voice's advice. But that begged the question: What was she going to do? Felicia was so wrapped up in her own thoughts that she almost missed the sound of the loudspeaker blaring above her. "Our weekly Struggle tournament is beginning in just twenty minutes! Bring the kids, bring the grandkids, bring your dog! It's good, clean fun for the whole family! This month's prize is five thousand Munny and a week's supply of seasalt ice cream, courtesy of Quen's Confections! Just come on down to Eclipse Waterway and get your game on! Subjects terms and conditions apply." Well. That was convenient. Felicia's hands balled into fists as she leaned forward slightly, picking up the pace as she marched down the street. ...Though it'd probably help if she knew where she was going to begin with.
Thankfully, it 'only' took her fifteen minutes to find the designated location for the tournament, despite it being a block over from where she started her search. She registered for the event, but when they asked for her name, she blurted out Elfé by mistake. She'd intended to come up with a better 'code name', but it was the first thing that came to mind. Too late now. All she could do was wait until it was her turn. "Aaaaand moving on to our next bout, we have Sora verses...! Am I reading this right? Elfy?" Felicia's eye twitched slightly as she stepped into the square ring, throwing her cape back over her shoulder before snatching up the blue foam bat and thrusting it forward to point towards the crowd on the other side of the field and presumably where her opponent would come from. "It's Elfé. Now, come forth and meet your doom for daring to stand between me and confectionery delight!" She cared more about the money than the ice cream, but she was so hungry that it was the only thing she could think about. How very embarrassing.

ONE SKY, ONE DESTINY ”Doom? You really love ice cream, huh. But I love it too!” Sora said, standing on the the level surface of the raised wooden platform covering most of the sandlot's center area. It was the arena, the biggest, most difficult component to rebuild for every important tournament. There weren't any creaky boards or worn out grooves to trip over mid battle. Everything around them was carefully prepared for this tournament. Sora was excited but certain people of Twilight Town lived and breathed for this sport his enthusiasm wasn't was great as the collective sense of anticipation. He was ready for a good fair fight with all of them. If a week of free ice cream was the prize then you bet there would be a lot of competition.
The arena didn't yet smell like sweat but clearly his opponent meant business so someone was going to get tired and perspire sooner or later. But even with B.O. there were few things better than a work out to get the blood flowing and the heart pumping. Sora sorely needed the that. His body felt like old clockwork with squeaking gears. Even after a year of world hopping he was still not feeling at his best. It wasn't his worst though, some of his abilities returned. Down to his bones he seemed like a weaker version of himself. The true organization stole part of him. Power... or perhaps it was his sense of wholeness. He reach out to the other heart within his body. Roxas. There wasn't a way for Sora to know what the Nobody was feeling but he imagined it was far worse.
His inward call was unanswered: Roxas wasn't responding. That was normal anyway. There was other stuff focus on.
With weakness Sora found each round to be more intense, a real struggle to win instead of the landslide of victories. An upset in the tournament attracted the spotlight like a magnet. But not every tournament could have a rising star. The struggle community was really friendly for beginners even if they lost; because, no one liked the same story over and over. The same outcomes in the brackets were super boring to watch on repeat and in the end the underdogs were discouraged by defeat.
Yet some strugglers didn't care about the health of community. They were famous for winning and wanted to keep the spotlight on themselves, like Setzer who often asked opponents to lose on purpose. Sora didn't hold a grudge against that guy but it just wasn't right to ask people to lose for profit. Everyone deserved respect for giving their best.
The unified voice of the viewers all around them was calling for Elfe just as much as they did for Sora. She was the newcomer and they were eating up her character as an unknown struggler new to the tournament but making herself known as a fierce battle with just her words. Many people stilled wanted Sora to win but having won tournaments before, he was just a returning player to the crowd. He was happy to be her opponent even if she was a bit intimidating. No one new who would win now.
The match began with the announcer's call.
"Good luck, Elfe!" He said, taking the first move by jogging forward and trying a horizontal bash with the struggle bat with both hands clamped down. He wouldn't let his grip loosen up since she seemed dead set on winning. The simple attacks was also a test to see how good she was as a struggler. Matches could be a marathon of touch and go if both participants were evenly skilled. Collecting the point balls was also a thing they had to worry about so it was hard to use combat experience alone to win. So far Sora found himself just under the intermediate level of the average struggler, like Hayner. Getting back to the top was way harder for some reason. Maybe he was really really rusty or maybe everyone was getting really really good. It didn't matter, this was fun.

The corner of Felicia's mouth twitched into a slight frown when her opponent revealed himself. He was just a kid? It was kind of expected, given that this event seemed more for children than anything despite being open to all ages. But just because he was young didn't mean he would receive any mercy. She would get that ice cream! Money. She would get the money. It was hard to focus on what was important with the grumbling in her stomach. Felicia was feeling even weaker than normal, even just holding the foam bat up was a bit of a challenge... but there was no way she would allow herself to be beaten by a child regardless. She would destroy him with maximum prejudice.
It seemed that she was a favorite to win for some bizarre reason. Did these people have some sick desire to watch a child be beaten senseless by a grown woman? Regardless, the cheers and calls of encouragement were mostly for her. But she couldn't let it distract her. She was used to performing in far more oppressive environments than a friendly tournament. And then, the gong rang to signal the start of the round. "To you as well, but I can't allow myself be defeated here. En garde!" She was taking this whole thing a bit too seriously, but throughout her entire life, she'd had nary a moment to stop and relax. Such was the fate of joining a terrorist organization as a young child. She did everything with 120%, and this battle was no different.
She pointed the tip of the bat towards the ground, shifting to the side to assume a battle stance. "Here I come. Prepare yourself!" With that, as the boy attacked she suddenly vanished from sight before reappearing behind Sora with her bat raised in the air, eliciting surprised gasps from the crowd as she swung it down hard in an overhead slash. Whether Sora was struck or blocked or evaded it, she would follow it up by stepping in to thrust the bat in, attempting to knock the boy away so that she would be free to collect any points that dropped, if any did.

ONE SKY, ONE DESTINY Sora's easy attack was more than evaded, it was hyper evaded. He was surprised by her quick disappearance then it became clear that she was really good at fighting. He was outclassed by her speed. The back of his head was hollow sounding when her struggle bat struck him good. The fuzzy blue sphere hopped off his body, six out of a hundred in total bouncing away. The women then swept at Sora, pushing him away so she could collect the points to proceed.
”Ouch!” He winced at the slight pain. But it doubled to clear his mind. Turning about he went for guard pierce right away, thrusting himself at high speed towards her with enough force to break blocks and guards. He then prepared himself to collect struggle balls as well if there would be any at all. He needed to take this slowly, planning on tiring her out or at least holding back until he needed to fully exert himself.

She had admittedly expected the boy's spirit to be broken after her display of speed. A lesser foe might have realized they were outclassed, but this Sora seemed to have no such reservations. She caught his movement out of the corner of her eye and brought the foam bat up to block his strike... but apparently that was what he was waiting for. His attack slipped past her guard and struck her square in the chest, causing her to stumble back a few steps. She let out a grunt, though more from confusion than pain- was this kid really so powerful as to push her back? Or was she simply too weak to fight properly? Or both? Either way, she needed to end this quickly.
Draw upon my power. Let us tear this world asunder.
...She might have been taking this contest a little too seriously, but she wasn't going to raze the town to ash just because she took a hit to the stomach. Pushing the Voice back down into the depths of her subconscious once more, she raised the sword to rest horizontally by her face with her left hand extended forward, adopting the stance of a certain silver-haired SOLDIER. "...You caught me off guard. I commend you, but- it won't happen again."
With that she dashed forward again, drawing her right arm back as if she were about to thrust again... but instead she dropped into a crouch while twisting, throwing her leg out in an attempt to trip the boy. If she managed to sweep his feet, she would rise and quickly stab the bat down towards his chest to return the favor.

ONE SKY, ONE DESTINY His guard pierce worked to get past her defense but the struggle balls weren't there for him to collect. Whatever she did, it was good enough to no upset her gear. There was an unbreakable aura that surrounded her in a do-or-die position. The commitment to being serious was now frightening. People all around still cheered. She was winning and they were watching a match unlike any before.
Sora wasn't into the technical side of fighting with momentum or leverage but he had a basic grasp for those things through experience against countless foes. He was adequate with his keyblade. Unlike her. Elfe proved herself to be a sword master that could use even a struggle bat to bring her opponents down. He didn't know her story but he wanted to. She seemed seriously hurt, sick even under her dire tone.
Witnessing her stance with her sword in front of her face, he half expected her to do another one of those vanishing tricks with her speed and then land several blows on him while he could do nothing. He vaguely remembered someone very strong, and very evil, who could do that.
Instead of waiting for her move he was going on the offense but she'd seen him coming. Now he was on the ground, tripped over her feet and laid on his back with struggle balls aplenty scattered around the two fighters. Time wasn't on his side but now it was impossible to catch up. She had the bat on his chest, pressing on him to stall.
"Five" "Four" "Three" "Two" "One!"
She'd won the struggle! The crowd erupted and people stood and called her name.
”Congrats! You won fair and square. That was really hard battle.” Sora said. He got up from under the bad and stood with an arm reached out to shake. The prize belonged to her. He'd have to get his ice cream elsewhere.

And with that attack, Elfé won. Apparently. She wasn't overly surprised- he was just a child and she was the former leader of the much feared AVALANCHE. But something about their skirmish bothered her. There was more to the boy than she'd seen. It was said that great warriors could sense each other's thoughts and feelings when they clashed blades- of course, she felt nothing during their fight, but that was likely due to their 'blades' being a pair of foam bats. It made her wonder just what kind of weapon that the boy usually used. The earlier move that he'd used to bypass her guard made her think that it must be a short sword of some description- unless he did all his training with the bat, but that seemed unlikely.
She was so distracted with her analysis of the situation that she almost missed Sora's offer of a handshake. The woman took his hand lightly and gave it a small shake before turning away from him. "Wait here." With that, she walked off the stage and pushed her way through the crowd towards the back. If Sora remained in place as requested, she would return a few moments later with a small pouch of munny in one hand and a blue ticket in the other. When she reached Sora, she'd hold the ticket out towards him, letting him see the picture of a popsicle in the center. It was a coupon that could be redeemed for ice cream, good through the next week. "Here, take this."
The offer, more of a demand really, might have seemed odd given her intensity regarding the fight earlier, but she still really didn't care about the ice cream, she just wanted food, and now she had enough cash to buy something. But if Sora would start to reach for the coupon, she would lower her voice so that none of the crowd could hear, "You weren't trying in that fight. I'm going to get something to eat- and then I want you to fight me again. Bring whatever weapon you wish, and then show me your true power."

ONE SKY, ONE DESTINY ”Wait, huh? Uh, Ok.” he was confused but followed the powerful woman's strict orders out of a sense of sportsmanship and fear. The people watching stepped aside for her to go off stage and accept the rewards. The announcer could have taken it on stage to give it to her but it seemed she was in a hurry. No one got in her way with formalities.
Sora wondered if she was running away but then she came back with her prizes, the munny pouch and the ice cream ticket. Offering the second to him, she further confused the keyblade bearer. It was her hard earned reward not his. She even made a big deal about it at the start of the match. Nothing would get in her way of the 'confectionery delight.' She insisted on it. So he accepted it as second place prize. Then he understood. There was a catch.
Elfe whispered to him, so the crowd couldn't hear it. She wanted to see him really fight, not just struggle with foam bats and struggle balls. Somehow she knew there was more to Sora. Was it him using the guard piercer? He wondered but at the same time felt the same about her abilities. There was no way she revealed all her strength in that little bit of time.
Sora could show off his keyblade but he didn't know if that was the right thing to do. Using real weapons meant someone was going to get hurt. Besides that, there wasn't much of his own strength that he was holding back in the struggle. At least, not in the speed or power categories. Well magic was something he avoided using. It was unfair and also dangerous to use in struggles.
Tough call. But he wasn't going to back down from a real fight. If she wanted to test his real strength then he would show her how much he recovered in a year.
"Meet me in the forest. It's safer when there's no one else around and that place is always empty. But I'm getting ice cream first so I'll see you later!" Sora said, holding up the ticket but in the same gesture congratulating the winner of the tournament. Everyone returned to the eruption of applause and cheering. Whatever struggle tournament was to come in the future, they wanted even more intense action for it.
"Thank you, Elfe." Sora skipped off the platform and went happily on his way to free dessert. He considered trying every flavor on the menu but he knew better than to spoil himself before a battle. Stuff was about to be super serious with that women but he wasn't worried. A surge of eagerness filled him. He wanted to let loose and push himself further than before. Elfe would provide that opportunity.

The boy seemed to agree to her condition, which she accepted with a curt nod. She had her suspicions about him... but their quick skirmish with foam bats wasn't enough for her to form a proper hypothesis yet. Well, she would have enough information to confirm or dismiss her suspicion soon enough. She watched him run off in silence, surrounded by the cheering crowd... only to place a hand over her stomach as it growled, cheeks reddened ever so slightly from embarrassment. She should take Sora's lead and get something to eat as well... but first, as her eyes drifted down to the foam bat in her hand she realized there was something else she'd need to do.
-----------------------------------------
Twenty minutes passed and Felicia had already blown through all of her winnings. One might imagine that she bought some expensive trinket or do-dad... but in truth, she spent almost all five thousand on food alone. Though the Materia embedded in her palm no longer sapped her life force, it did still drain her energy at a frightening pace, necessitating quite an appetite. By the time she left the restaurant, there were four piles of dishes and bowls in front of her, two large pillars reaching up to her eye level in the back and two reaching up to her biceps in front. Feeling invigorated, she handed over the pouch of munny to the waiter and went on her way, headed towards the forest off in the distance...
------------------------------------------
It seemed that she arrived first. Or, the forest was a large place, so perhaps Sora was merely deeper in. She considered going looking for him, but decided to spend a few minutes waiting in the first clearing first. There was no doubt in her mind that the boy would show himself eventually one way or another, so she simply chose a particularly thick tree to rest her back against, folding her legs while crossing her arms over her chest, letting her cape fall over her shoulders to cover her body from sight as she waited for the boy to make his appearance.

ONE SKY, ONE DESTINY ”There you are!” Sora said, stumbling on the women. In one hand was ice cream in the form of a Popsicle that he'd already bit into. In the other was a perfectly new one. Both were sea salt flavored, a favorite of Sora's and a few others close to the boy. "Here, take this one." He gave her the refreshment, insisting on it. Whatever she'd eaten this would be a great compliment. The boy took his time to finish his own, that way Elfe could enjoy hers without having to rush before their battle. ------ "I'm ready!" He announced, bringing out the keyblade and getting into proper form, with his weapon held like a club off to his side. It made it easier to go right into a swing which was a stale of his style. Wasn't much you could do with a bludgeoning tool, well for a while. Sora was creative and had magic on his side as well. If this fierce warrior wanted to see what all he could do with a keyblade then he'd show her. He started it, his summoned inner strength and created a vortex of light. Three spheres of energy surrounded him with their own smaller vortexes that could deal damage. This was Explosion which would be a perfect counter to that vanishing trick Elfe used at the start of the struggle. If that was enough to catch her off guard then he'd lead into a simple straight on strike with the keyblade. She'd probably have some form of guard but he wanted to see her show off an ability that could actually be seen. [Explosion - Cooldown: 2 posts]

She opened her eyes when she heard someone approach, and as expected, it was Sora. Her mouth opened to say something, and then hung in place as she took on a surprised expression, put off balance by the boy's offer. "T-Thank you." Still, not to be rude she accepted Sora's offering with her left hand, leaving the right arm still covered by her cape as she brought it to her mouth. The moment her tongue touched it she winced at the surprising saltiness of it, having expected something sweet. She assumed the salt was supposed to emphasize the other flavors... or maybe this was just what it normally tasted like. It had been a long, long time since she'd had any type of ice cream- The last time was probably with her father when she was still a child... so if she was misremembering what it was supposed to taste like she could be forgiven. The life of a terrorist didn't exactly lend itself to simple pleasures. Still, she managed to finish it before crouching down and pressing the wooden spatel into the dirt. Since it was a wooden stick, it was presumably biodegradable... and then pulled away from the tree in order to face Sora.
Once again she was surprised when the boy called forth his weapon in a flash of light. "A giant key...?" A glance told her that it was likely a blunt weapon as she couldn't see a cutting edge on it. That move he pulled off with the Struggle bat made sense now. She wasn't too far off when she guessed that he used a short sword, though a bludgeon like that key was certainly odd. "Hm... I see that this wasn't a wasted purchase after all." With that she rolled her right shoulder to let her cape fall back and expose her right arm... revealing that she was holding a struggle bat in her sword arm. But her gaze was as steely as ever. "Don't misunderstand my intentions, I don't want you to hold back. But if I draw my sword you might not survive." It might have sounded haughty for her to say it like that, but she had fought Sephiroth to a standstill on more than one occasion. As far as she knew, she was stating a simple fact.
As requested, the boy seemed to be going all out. The woman smirked slightly as she raised her bat to defend whatever he was planning, only to be surprised by the balls of light. She turned, grabbing her cape with her left hand and bringing it up to cover her body just as the explosion pushed her back, her feet skidding against the ground to keep her upright. Some of the fabric of the cape had burned away and thin trails of smoke rose off her forearm, though she seemed relatively undamaged despite having to shake her arm in order to dispel the stinging sensation. Sora moved in to follow up, but she thrust her bat out to block the strike, pushing in to secure the block as she moved her face in close to hers. "Magic, huh...? I hate magic." With that, she'd shove back hard in an attempt to knock the boy away so that she could speak, "In my world, magic comes from stones called Materia. Most Materia is mined from the planet, slowly but surely killing it." She sighed, raising her arm to point the bat towards Sora's chest. "What about your magic? Where does it come from?"

ONE SKY, ONE DESTINY Materia, huh? The keyblader heard of that word before but couldn't remember who first mentioned it. Cloud? Yuffie?Maybe Leon. But that a long time ago and without stating its nature. Leeching off of a planet for magic, that's horrible! It's just like darkness feeding on the hearts. Already he wanted to do something. But what could he do to fend off catastrophe, close it a keyhole? Would that stop the people of her world from abusing their home? It seemed like a far fetched idea, even to Sora who tried his best to be optimistic in the face of adversity.
Sora was haunted by the thought still, unable to focus on the battle.
Sure it wasn't his world but he knew what it meant to lose his home. The darkness once swallowed Destiny Island, everyone there was taken away. And it wasn't just his world, the darkness took so many people's homes. Sora and everyone else who could, came together to free the lost worlds from the heartless. Sure it was Sora but Donald and Goofy were there with him when he defeated Ansem, er Xehanort's heartless.
Evil people were helped the darkness consumed worlds so that they could open the door to Kingdom Hearts. They thought it was power. So Materia and Kingdom Hearts, two things that came from taking what didn't belong to you, were actually very similar. But it wasn't Kingdom Hearts that gave Sora his power. ”Magic comes from...” He started to answer but was unprepared for the question. He didn't need an object to do his magic. That was proven a long time ago when Riku claimed the keyblade. Sora could still fight along side Beast. So then where did it come from?
Ah. That's right!
He remembered his journeys, meeting new people and risking his life to prevent disasters. When they prospered he prospered. In his few years of fighting the darkness he always got stronger by being there for others, growing his heart with theirs. They didn't give him magic they forged a connection and that bond gave Sora power.
"It comes from the heart." He said, clarifying and clearing his mind.
"Thank you." He said. "I was forgetting how I was able to fight the toughest bad guys in the universe. I remember now."
With that Sora went on the offense again. He rushed forward, going into Guard Piercer, kicking off the ground and moving with enough force to bypass normal guard. It caught her once and he though it might do the trick again. But she probably wasn't the kind to fall for the same trick twice. So he pressed on.
He was unrelenting, going right for another attack. This time without touching the ground he flipped mid air and he used the Aerial Finisher, a very powerful strike that left bright streaks of light in the air. The the keyblade whipped overhead and down to attack. He landed on his feet, heart beating strong.

It took Sora a moment to answer her question, though when he had, she closed her eyes and considered it for a moment. Magic came from the heart? What a foolish, childish response. Yet... she couldn't bring herself to verbally admonish him for saying so. Maybe he had a point. Her love for AVALANCHE and all it stood for kept her pushing forward even after her body was broken and weak. Felicia couldn't help the corner of her mouth tugging up into the thinnest smile possible. "...A fine answer."
Her eyes opened again when Sora claimed to have beaten 'the toughest bad guys in the universe'. That caused her faint smile to fade away into her usual frown. As she formulated a response to that, Sora already returned to the offensive. As he expected she hopped back to evade the first attack, not foolish enough to attempt taking it head on for a second time. She was even ready for his followup, bringing the struggle bat horizontally over her head to block his strike... only for the bat to snap in half from the force of the blow after it was deflected.
The woman carelessly tossed away the remains of her borrowed weapon and took a few steps back to create distance once more. "You say your power comes from the heart?" She glanced down at her left hand, dark wisps starting to roll off her forearm while a faint red glow managed to shine through her heavy leather glove. Felicia stared down at her palm for a moment before clenching her fist shut hard enough that her knuckles cracked. "...My power comes from the devil himself."
She grabbed the sheath at her side her left hand while resting her right hand against the grip, the wisps around her arm darkening as they grew thicker. "You said you've defeated the strongest villains the universe has to offer? Well, one stands before you! If you wish to face the likes of Sephiroth, then you should be able to survive this attack. Steel your resolve!" With that, she unsheathed her sword into a single, lightning fast strike. She was still several feet away from Sora and hadn't moved to swing her sword, so he might be forgiven for thinking that she hadn't attacked at all. But a moment later the trees around them in quite a large area would shudder, and then start to fall back, as if felled by some invisible force- causing the clearing around them to nearly double in size.

ONE SKY, ONE DESTINY Sora couldn't see her strike in action. All he could see was the harm done to him by the lightning quick attack. His wounds weren't a match with his surroundings, he should have been half a stump. Was she holding back? She said her power was from the devil... did that mean darkness? There was something not right with that. It sounded like she was struggling.
"You remind me of Riku, my best friend. When the darkness came for our island he wasn't afraid. He embraced it and let it take him away. But the darkness changed him and it took control" Sora said, taking slow breaths and standing relaxed. He honestly didn't want to fight Elfe anymore. He was too worried about her now: her world, her power, and her future. It all was so sad to hear about that he couldn't let it go.
"I looked for him, everywhere. But in the end it was him, just him fighting it all on his own." He paused, dropping all signs of aggression. This wasn't a trick or a fake out. He was opening up to her.
