Ayami listened as Gemini explained the state of the heartless, though as she spoke, Ayami couldn't help but feel conflicted. What the woman was saying wasn't exactly wrong...But the heartless that looked like a boy, they never attacked anyone. And if what they're seeking is a heart...Is it really such a bad thing? But there was no denying that they looked dangerous. There was no denying that those defenses weren't put up for no reason. Rarely would someone go to those lengths for a non-threat. She thought it over for a moment, though continued to listen as Gemini went further into explaining the elements of darkness. Then came the next part; The one that shocked her and left her eyes widened. She had to speak up in fear, it was deeply concerning to her what had just been said. "They can overrun worlds"..."W-Wait...You don't think using that device opened up my world to them, do you? My family is there. My friends are there... I'm really worried about em! If there's any chance that's happened, please you two...I beg of you; I need your help. Bmayca..."She continued listening, taking in every word that was said. So there were people that commanded the heartless? But surely...She shook her head, trying to shake away her thoughts, her fears...Images of her father standing within the portal that night flashed in her mind. Surely he couldn't have been one of the users of this dark art, right? So much of this just didn't make sense. He was a good person, he wouldn't have ever used something that could send worlds into perpetual darkness. She tried to push her fears away, focusing only on what Gemini had to say.She gave a nod in response to Gemini's offer, wanting to know more about these creatures. If her father really was tied to them in some way...She needed to know more, to try and get him away from it all. If she even could. As for the side effects...She noted that prolonged use could prove risky, but otherwise there were no immediate dangers aside from those shadows lurking within the corridors. To her these risks meant very little at the moment however, there were so many people she thought of above simple risks...Her mother, and grandma. Her friends from Home, her rolemodel, Yuna. And...Her father. And now to add to it, poor Zeni and Gemini had been wrapped into this mess because they merely wanted to help the mechanic girl. All of them were in just as much danger as she was, and it was in this moment she was prepared to take those risks just to ensure everyone she cared about would be safe. Everyone deserved to have a bright future in her opinion... She was never one to back away from something that was scary, it would be no different this time.... Though for the moment she was drawn away from it all. She blinked her bright emerald eyes in confusion."Huh? Living space? Well...I'm used to living outside. I've been doing that for almost two years now that I think about it."To think of it actually surprised her. True once she settled in with the machine faction she lived in a home for a while, but it was a very short while too. For a grand majority of these two years since Home fell, she's...Been living in the wilderness, really. She was certainly shocked when Gemini offered to house her here in this lab...She gasped."Huuuh? Here? With you two? Is...That really okay? I've never exactly been offered that before... But, I don't got anywhere else to stay soooo...I guess I'll give it a shot!"She grinned and gave a nod. There was no way she really could've turned them down. Besides, here she could help keep them safe if her wandering into this world brought those creatures to their doorstep. That at the very least was reassuring to her. But she'd give a small chuckle at Zeni's excitement, nodding in agreement."Yep, now that the living arrangements are settled, just this device. Just follow my lead them, Ma'am! The machine faction can fix even the most broken tool, no matter what!"She gave a salute and got to work, borrowing tools she recognized and slowly, carefully - Almost with surgical precision even - cutting into the device and removing it's parts. She elected to remove the gem within first, just so she wouldn't risk breaking it on accident, she handed it to Zeni to examine at her leisure. She seemed good at placing stuff, so maybe she'd get a good idea from a closer look... Still it wasn't long before every inner part in this device had been stripped out and laid on the desk before them, she looked them each over with her goggles on before handing them off to Zeni and Gemini to examine as well...She was getting an idea about what might be missing, but there was yet to be a definitive answer, though. Surely they were closing in on how to make it work?------ Zeni

Gemini would sit back, leaning against the chair as Ayami directed a pressing concern about what that object could have possibly done to her world. Though the woman certainly had some theories, it was ultimately hard to say, especially when they barely knew anything of how this device worked... " It's too early to say if that's what happened. But many worlds are vulnerable to the Heartless. Whether or not this thing opened a path for them is unclear... But the possibility can't be ruled out. I don't wish to worry you, but I won't lie to you either." , the woman explained in a calm tone of voice. " That's why I'll help you repair this device." That aside... Ayami soon made it clear that she had spent two years roughing it out in the wilds, or at least outside. The girl was also surprised to receive an offer to stay here at the lab. It prompted a small giggle out of Zeni. " Well, you've seen the size of this place! You really won't be intruding at all. This place was designed to be a shelter as well as a lab, so..." , the Android would explain to Ayami.
In turn, Gemini nods. " Quite right. Since no one else is here right now, you can have a room entirely to yourself. We don't know how long we'll be working at this, so you'll want a place to rest properly." , the scientist adds.
Now, however... It was time to start work on this mysterious object. For now, Gemini would simply observe Ayami's technique, and how she pulled the device apart. This would give her a good understanding of it's current state. Ayami ended up handing that gem to Zeni, and the Android carefully accepted it and began to scan it while the other two worked. Though there wasn't much special about it's make, other than being perfectly cut to slot into the device... It was certainly a genuine crystal. Though not of any type native to Radiant Garden, clearly.
But, the thing that immediately jumped out at Zeni was the fact that this crystal had an incredible amount of power stored inside of it... Even a bit of dark energy. The question was how all of that power was being used, and why one couldn't feel it normally -- But it was certainly there." Whoa... This thing's got a lot of power packed into it." , Zeni commented. " And that power is very particular, only for a specific use. Given that it's not having any outward effect on any of us... Hmm... I get some readings of dark energy in it as well." , she continues.
Gemini would rub her own chin in thought. " Hmm... Interesting..." , perhaps the gem was why Corridors of Darkness were being opened? Though getting a replacement wouldn't be easy, either.------ Ayami

Ayami gave a firm nod in response to what Gemini had to say regarding the state of Spira. It was true that there was really no telling at this point. She just had to remain calm for now, there was no point in panicking, it wasn't going to fix it, or make the return home come sooner. Besides, Zeni was trying her best to make the situation easier, and the mechanic didnt exactly want to shrug off such kindness. As such, she smiled and gave a nod, accepting the offer completely.Still, for now there was business to attend to. It definitely seems they were making progress, not only did Zeni get a read on what that crystal was full of, Ayami found a part that made it tick! She pointed out a little mechanism for swinging a tiny hammer! It was all coming together for sure, she already began positing a theory to the pair:"This only tells me one thing; that crystal activates through force, like a gong! I bet if you smacked it, it'd shoot it's beacon out right here and now! Though that does explain the massive crack in the side of it. Must've been used one too many times. More than that...I don't think a simple energy crystal could create teleportation like this. What if that beacon connects to something else? Maybe there's...Another crystal somewhere?"It was definitely a fair theory, maybe a single crystal containing energy couldn't have opened a corridor like that, but if it had something to connect to; then perhaps doing so would require significantly less energy than usual. It did leave the question remaining - Was there some kind of "receiver" for the beacon somewhere within Radiant Garden? Ayami definitely couldn't answer that question with certainty, as it would leave the device rather limited if it needed a connecting point, but...Then..."If they had a device like this, maybe they already spread out across a bunch of worlds? I think it would be worth it to look for something here related to the device. In the mean time...If my theory is correct, I think we could improve it. Find a way to make a crystal resonate without a good smack to the side, maybe figure out how to "select" a destination with it, and improve there as well?"Still, if the crystal had dark energy in it as Zeni had discovered, it'd be rather difficult to replicate, it clearly needed to be replaced if they were going to actually salvage the device. Dark energy definitely sounded like the heartless - That meant a potential trip outside the safety of the town.------ Zeni

Gemini rubs her chin in thought as Ayami presents a theory as to how the device works. They were beginning to understand the nature of the crystal now, as well as how the device functions. " Fascinating... I've never heard of a Crystal having properties like this, to be activated through physical force alone. Most of the time they require magical incantations, or a sudden introduction of a certain type of energy to produce a result like this." , she comments. But all of this didn't explain how it was able to travel to other worlds. It needed some type of connection..." There certainly needs to be something that connects this device to other worlds. No matter how great the energy response of this single Crystal, it shouldn't be able to open a portal or path all by itself. Whether that is another Crystal, or something else entirely... I do not know. But I believe that your theory has merit. This device is only one part of the puzzle, as is the crystal." , Gemini then adds.
Zeni would chime in soon after. " So, something on this world resonates with this device. Maybe... If we find it, we can find the other things we need? We could do a full analysis, and maybe they have other Crystals like this one! Hopefully they're undamaged, too!" , the Android excitedly points out. This was going to be a type of archaeological trip! Who knows what type of history they could unearth by investigating this...
Gemini nods. " The possibility is there. Though we don't know where to begin. Radiant Garden is an expansive world, and the Heartless beyond the town's defenses are dangerous. But we may have to risk such ventures. I doubt we'll have a replacement crystal anywhere nearby, and I don't know if we can repair it..." , the scientist would then admit.
Zeni would then shrug. " Well, the least we can do is make sure that the device has some new parts in perfect condition! Unless we're going to start our search right now, anyway." , it was pretty clear to see how excited the Android was for this... " If so, then I'm ready! I can accompany Ayami anywhere!" Gemini was silent for a moment... But eventually... " It would be your first combat scenario, Zeni. Undoubtedly you'll run into hostiles... Still, all the more reason you should travel in a group, instead of alone. Well, I think there's no way around it, then. When we start the investigation, you two will travel together." , the woman then declares.------ Ayami

"Well, when you think about it, it DOES still make sense. It's energy; Kinetic energy! Really though, it surprises me...You want to know what most of the technology in my world is like? Here, take a look and compare them." Ayami took out her machina pistol: "Loud", and handed it over to the other two to examine. Indeed comparing it to the device, the differences were like night and day. While her pistol made use of metal alloys and machine parts, this device made use of stone carved casings, VERY basic iron components likened to that of someone who only knows the very bare necessities of metal forging, and of course this strange energy storing crystal...She shook her head, just seeing the comparison again reminded her how out of place this thing was compared to the ancient machina she grew up seeing. But there was also a lot of merit in what Gemini was saying. Even if this crystal could store energy, it was very unlikely it could store enough to output something of THIS magnitude...But as her theory posited, if there was something on the other end helping to bridge the gap, the power output wouldn't be NEARLY as high. In fact it'd just need to be enough to "connect" to the other side.As they spent time pondering it over, Zeni suggested something brilliant: Going and finding whatever this "connection point" is...And possibly finding more crystals there just like this one. It was an amazing idea! Maybe it would've been easier said than done finding something older than a thousand years, but if they COULD find it...Well, at the very least, maybe they could answer a few clues? Gemini was correct sadly, this device was only a small piece of a larger puzzle. But just maybe this trip would lead them to more things belonging to whoever this device was made by. Ayami gave an enthusiastic nod, grinning brightly."I like the way you think Zeni! It's been a while since I really got out there and did some adventuring! Sounds like fun t'me!!!"Though before she got ahead of herself, Gemini had yet another good point; it was gonna be like finding a needle in a haystack. If...Said haystack was full of poisonous snakes. But the honest truth was that they didn't really have a choice; that crystal had sustained too much damage to be reliable, and worse - None of them knew HOW a crystal could store energy, much less the correct kinds and with the right amounts. It seemed a "Road trip" was an absolute at this point. Though the mechanic really didn't seem too phased by it. Quite the opposite, she was as excited as the android was! This was going to be just like her big adventures back home, for sure!"I do think we should get the device in working order first, but...Hmmm. I've got another idea as well. Maybe if this crystal really DOES connect to something...It might be able to lead us to this place? I'm thinking when we go, we should bring the thing with us, might make things easier if we're getting it narrowed down a bit! As for Zeni...Don't worry Doc, I'm a good shot! I'll watch her back, I promise. That being said, I've got no objections to working with her!"She picked up Loud and spun it around on her finger, placing it back in its holster effortlessly. Seemed they had a plan at least! She'd wait to hear what the other two thought regarding the crystal and the possibility it could lead them ever closer to what they're seeking. Honestly it was hard to wait! She was practically chomping at the bit to go hunting for this "resonance point". But first thing's first...They'd have to get some blueprints figured out for an upgrade to the device. If they couldn't even make a working design, there was little reason to go looking for a crystal!"So! Here's my idea..."She got to work, brainstorming out a system that could induce the same effect as kinetic force, but with an electrical pulse instead! Something like this could theoretically still activate the crystal's energy storage, all without dealing damage to it! There was still plenty of room for Gemini and Zeni to interject with their own ideas even!------ Zeni

(Music)Ayami made a fair point about this still being a type of energy, just kinetic instead of the other types that Gemini was more familiar in working with. The young mechanic also offered up one of those pistols she had for closer examination, something that the scientist decided to accept with eagerness. And sure enough, comparing the two exposed an incredible difference. Perhaps the same basic principles could apply, but... This certainly ruled out anyone that could have made the device recently. Or else if they did, they certainly had no idea what they were doing. But all signs pointed to an ancient, lost civilization." I think it's safe to say that it's a civilization unlike any of ours..." , Gemini then comments. Still, none of this explained how they were able to harness the ability to travel between worlds. But perhaps they could find out more as they worked. Though Gemini always seemed to have a calm disposition, this ignited a spark inside of her. She may have lacked the same type of energy as these two, but it was clear that she held a scientific curiosity that would only be sated through study.
Ayami would then point out that she was excited to get out there and find some answers! ... And, with how fun it would be. Zeni could only smile at that. " Right?! I think it'll be a lot of fun too!" , the Android answers. The mechanic would then point out that perhaps this crystal could even lead them to what they were searching for... But that the primary concern for now was fixing up the device to be in working order. Or at least the closest approximation, since they don't have any replacement crystal on hand.
On top of all that, Ayami also promised to keep Zeni safe. Gemini would give a nod at that. The young mechanic seemed like a good sort, so she would trust her to keep the Android out of danger -- Though really, them traveling out in a pair would be to let them keep each other safe. As long as all had gone according to plan, Zeni should be very handy in a fight... Before all of that however, there was the workload in front of them.
Ayami took the lead, coming up with a way of using the Crystal without damaging it. Gemini would chime in soon after. " We should be able to replace all of the parts inside of the device too. That way you won't have to worry about the next old thing inside of it breaking. I'd wager we could also clean it all up proper, and maybe even replace the case with a more modern take... Which we might have to, depending on how complex the new insides are going to be."
Ultimately, this wasn't going to be a display piece to put into a museum anymore, but that was okay. They needed something more functional, and besides... They might even be able to make more devices like it, once they are able to figure out how it ticks. That would be useful for obvious reasons. Though there was still the concerning nature of the use of Corridors of Darkness...
Simply put, Gemini hoped to find a way around that. But if that was the only way this could work... They would just have to make due with the one for Ayami.------ Ayami

"It's from a civilization unlike any of ours" was almost an understatement from just how accurate that was. Still, Gemini stepped in with some really great suggestions of her own regarding the device. So a total replacement was in order? Well, she had no complaints really, beyond saving the former parts "just in case". Studying what was, it was important too. Still, the mechanic gave a simple nod, smiling to the scientist."That sounds like an excellent idea. Well, now's as good a time as any to get started!"The girl was meticulous, devoted, almost feverish as she went to work. It was truly impressive that on the surface she seemed like such a clumsy person, but as soon as the work started, she shifted entirely. She drew up blueprints that would knock almost anyone off their feet. Plans that detailed every single piece - She had even left room for changing the blueprints up for the sake of mass production, if that was ever a necessary option to seek. More than that, despite their complexity, there were also addendums to each segment of the blueprints written in "layman's terms" - Simple figures that even someone who'd never touched so much as a wrench could figure out if they put their mind to it. She wasn't entirely sure WHY she did so, but perhaps it was for the sake of preservation. After all, the machina from her world didn't COME with instructions like this. She supposed deep down she felt that if the technical terms written all over were to ever become foreign to someone else, there was the chance they could still figure it out all out and piece it together. That aside, she presented the finished blueprints to the pair standing before her, it...Was shockingly fast, as well. But despite the speed, the efficiency didn't drop whatsoever, each detail they had gone over was covered here. She looked quite proud of herself as she placed her hands on her hips, grinning from ear to ear."So! What do you think? Any details need changing? If there's no objections, I think we can get started on the physical parts!"She grabbed a few tools, her tongue sticking out of the side of her mouth slightly as she concentrated on the work at hand, she spread out the "old parts" before them, making sure each was clearly visible, and then she got to work, finding replacements bits for each thing, working and fine tuning them where needed.------ Zeni

Ayami almost practically jumped at the chance to start work on a blueprint that would detail each change they would be making to the device -- Even going so far as to simplify it for those less experienced in the crafting field. Though Gemini didn't necessarily need that, it still helped to get across exactly what the Mechanic was intending to do here. It removed doubts and confusion, and that was an excellent step to ensuring this project was streamlined and successful.
It also didn't take her very long to finish the blueprint, and then look to the others for comment. Gemini would take the chance to read the blueprints properly now that they had been finished. Suffice to say... It was good work, and she had little to criticize or suggest here. Though some of that was because they were working in completely new and unknown territory here. The work itself was sound, and the only way to figure out how well it would work is to simply try." I have no objections to what you have written up here. It looks structurally and technically sound. Whatever kinks we might run into are things we'll just have to resolve as they come. This is the starting step, where it's all theory... That's the hardest point." , Gemini would then state. Now that she had her fill, it was Zeni's turn to look over it all and see if there was anything she might be able to suggest.
The Android did so in short order, scanning the details with a speed that might even rival Ayami's own pace. Though she wasn't much of a scientist or engineer... Still, she would nod. " I don't see any faults in it! We'll give it a shot and deal with whatever happens next!" With the team in agreement, all that was left to do now was get started. This would be a total makeover for the device, changing it's inner workings, but hopefully to achieve the same result... Just more efficiently. Gemini would assist where possible in removing the old parts, but also lay them aside neatly. The woman knew the purpose of making sure that those were still in good condition, and where they could plainly see them.
You never knew if this total makeover might not work at all... So it would be better to have everything in as good of a condition as they could manage it. Zeni mostly watched for now, not having the expertise to be able to work on machines as they did. Though she did have the unique perspective of being able to scan the device thoroughly. Chances are she couldn't glean much more information from it, but anything might help with what they were trying to accomplish here.
But now... It was just a matter of time and effort.------ Ayami

It was a long process, but she worked the whole time, not stopping for even a moment. Zeni and Gemini got to see just how passionate she was with her work. What she was doing went beyond just an occupation - Working on this device was almost like second nature to her. It was doing this where she felt most comfortable. Pretty soon she was taking things apart and slipping in new replacements - She replaced old basic components with sleek, durable new ones certain to almost never need replacing. She took a step back for a moment, observing the progress. She'd move her fingers in such a way as if she were holding the device between a frame, one eye closed and her tongue sticking out as she focused her hardest to imagine where to go next."Looks pretty good...Now to work on that energy supply."She went right back in, grabbing a battery with an attached "electric wand", she prodded the damaged crystal a few times, trying to get a reaction, but didn't get anything. She stared at the wand before poking it with the tip of her finger, she quickly dropped the wand and shook her hand as the electric current caused quite some pain!"Cuh uv y fruna!!! Pycdynt fru syta drec bnupypmo clnafc rec sus!!"She let out some...Colorful Al Bhed language in response to the sudden sting of the electric wand, though it was probably best not to ask her what it meant in English. She quickly recovered, tapping the wand to the damaged crystal once more. This time with a focused application of electricity, the crystal let out a faint glow before dimming back down once more. She hopped up excitedly and grabbed Zeni into a sudden hug."It works! It works!!! We've got a method of activating the crystal now!"To say she was ecstatic about the success of that test was an understatement. It revealed that their working theory would in fact be able to fit into the device. She soon let go of the poor Android, practically smiling from ear to ear. With this being a resounding success, it meant they were almost finished. She went straight back to work on the device, double timing it out of increased optimism. She gathered some new components not originally found in the device, fitted it all together, and finally secured it within a brand new casing. All that was missing now was..."Needs some utility enhancements. I'm not gonna carry this thing around everywhere I go!"She cut two slots into the bottom of the device's casing, grabbing a woolen strap and sliding each end into the slots, she'd open the casing from the top and tie it all up inside to keep it secure. After putting it all back together, she took one final step away from the workbench. Observing her finished work, with...Some help of course! She'd give a nod, looking to the other two."Well? What do you think? I'd say that's a wrap myself! All we're missing now is a crystal and I'm as good as gold!"------ Zeni

Ayami had a passion for this project that matched Gemini's own in regards to Zeni; the creation of that Android took an incredible amount of effort and time, but the scientist worked tirelessly to make it happen. So, unsurprisingly, she was able to keep pace with the young Mechanic in regards to this device as well. Though Ayami was in the end much more familiar with it's workings. Still, here and there she was able to offer assistance and streamline the process so it didn't take quite so long. Though one of the first road bumps in this was trying to get some sort of response out of the damaged crystal... The young Mechanic takes that into her own hands, along with an electric wand.
Nothing seems to be happening, though... Gemini looks up from the pieces she's working on, only to notice that Ayami seems to have decided to take a more uh... Hands-on approach to finding out if it worked in the first place. Before she could say anything, Zeni tried to. " Wait, it's definitely giving off an electric current-!" , the Android tried to warn Ayami, but... It was a bit too late, as the pink haired girl manages to press it against her finger, and get a nasty shock for her troubles. What ensued was some rather colorful language that neither could understand. Though if Gemini had to guess... Probably something like what she said when she managed to shock herself before...
Well, it all comes with the territory, right...? " Sorry... I tried to warn you, Ayami. I'll do a checkup for each piece of equipment we need to use." , Zeni then comments, a little disappointed that she couldn't save her new friend from a bit of unnecessary pain. " Do you require medical attention?" , she'd then ask, trying to get a look at Ayami's hand. Though the pink haired girl was right back to work, and the Android opted not to interrupt for now. If Ayami recovered that fast, it must not be too serious. Though it's not like Zeni had to sit and watch in silence for much longer. As soon as the faintest reaction occurred in that crystal...
Ayami hops up, and then she suddenly turns and hugs Zeni! It doesn't take the Android long to return the enthusiastic hug! " Wow! We're making really good progress!" , she'd reply to Ayami, who soon returns to working on the device. Zeni decides to try and keep morale up, moving with Ayami and sitting down with her... And yes, keeping her arms wrapped around her in a hug, and a smile on her face as she watches the work from a bit closer, instead of from afar. Soon enough, the work was wrapped up, and Ayami asks what the other two think.
Zeni just turns her gaze to Ayami with a smile -- Still hugging the mechanic, of course -- and responds accordingly. " I think it turned out great, Ayami! I can't wait until we can go find that new crystal so we can really start testing it out!" Suffice to say, Gemini was more than a little amused with the sight; especially if right about now, Ayami might realize how long the Android was hugging her... " I think you make a good team." , she'd comment regardless. Hoping to get a flustered reaction out of Ayami.------ Ayami

The mechanic definitely appreciated Zeni's concern over that nasty shock, just giving her a smile and a thumbs up, showing that she was in fact, okay. Still, she decided to offer a little bit of verbal affirmation alongside her body language just to reassure the android that there was no lasting harm done to her finger through that hands-on testing of the electric wand."Don't worry about it! I've been shocked plenty of times, it only hurts for a sec! Uh...Sorry for the language though, force of habit. heheh..."She apologized for her...Colorful commentary regarding the electricity, it was definitely something she was used to hearing and parroting herself, given that she worked around like-minded people back home, some more foul in the mouth than others. She still tended to be a little impressionable, having been around more rough-edged workers for two years now, but she never really meant any harm. She was just glad that neither the Doctor nor Zeni seemed to understand what she said. Hopefully they didn't pick up on it TOO soon.... Though, being so caught up in her work, she failed not only to notice that she had grabbed the Android so tightly in a hug, and that said android was now hugging her quite tightly. Upon realizing she definitely became surprised and frantic, it was...A rare sight for her, perhaps even rarer than her becoming angry. Gemini's comments only served to embarrass her more as she now raised her arms and began to wave her hands frantically:"W-Whaaaaat?! W...Wait hold on! We've not teamed up properly yet! W-Whoa!"She wasn't entirely sure why it flustered her so much to have Zeni cling tightly to her. Though perhaps it was just inexperience. She didn't have very many friends back home, certainly none that she was close enough to hug. It was an alien experience to her, which absolutely contributed to the embarrassment. She tugged at the android, trying to slip free and almost falling over in the process! She'd give a defeated shrug regardless of the result, and try to regain her composure before speaking up once more; it was time to get to business! Well...MORE business than they were at prior!"Right...We've still gotta take care of the most important part of all of this: A replacement to our little crystal problem. Ah, Gemini, any chance I can borrow your electric wand? Maybe giving it a spark will point us in the right direction...I'm only spitballing of course, but it's worth a shot, we certainly don't have any major leads to a replacement right now!"Experiementation was absolutely the name of the game at the present moment, they'd have to figure it out as they went along because otherwise, there were no real leads to be found, just as she had said. That still wasn't going to deter her any, and it showed in that she visibly didn't look hopeless, rather it just made her more excited to get to work: Field work was absolutely new to her, though adventure? That was something else entirely, she knew all about traveling the land and making her own discoveries. This would be a piece of cake! And this time she didn't even have to go it alone!------ Zeni

Gemini couldn't help but let out a genuine laugh in response to Ayami getting so flustered. Though it wasn't because she liked seeing 'suffering', just... " It's important for Zeni to form bonds with people. I'm glad that the first one she chose to do that with was you, Ayami. That's why you're a good team." , she elaborated what she meant with her comment. Still smiling as the mechanic struggled with her current predicament, nearly falling over in the process. Something about it all was rather heartwarming... It made the woman proud. In a sense, the Android was something of a daughter to her, so maybe that was the reason why? Whatever the case may be...
She was happy. Zeni certainly seemed to share the sentiment! A content expression on her face even as she steadies Ayami from nearly falling over. Eventually the young mechanic is able to regather her composure, and Zeni FINALLY begins to release her from the hug, confident that Ayami wouldn't take a fall to the floor now. Of course, their conversation turns to the more important matters now that everyone has had a moment to calm down a little... Ayami asks if it's alright if she borrows the electric wand for an experiment of some sort. That prompts a nod out of Gemini. " Of course. You can borrow it for as long as you need. I have spares here." , she replies.
Ayami seemed to have good instincts, maybe they could get a reaction out of nearby crystals if they used this damaged one and an electric wand... No way to tell for sure, of course. But any potential lead was better than just aimless wandering. Zeni would raise then raise her hand excitedly. " Oh! I can also scan for any energy readings matching the crystal! I might need to be pretty close to the general area, but if the other crystals DO respond like you're thinking... I might be able to detect that, and tell where to go!" In any case, they had a plan now. It was better than trying to scout out the entire world -- Especially with all of the Heartless out there. Even Zeni might have trouble with a large enough horde in back to back battles... Though Ayami could undoubtedly lighten the load, it was better to limit the dangers in general. " Right. I have one thing to tell you, however... Only venture out during the day. When nightfall approaches, return to town. The Heartless are at their strongest in the dark. You will find that the night is most dangerous here in Radiant Garden, when you are outside of the town's walls." To that, Zeni gives an understanding nod. " Yes. We don't want to be out in the wilderness on our own. The Heartless are dangerous, even for two people working together! I think we can keep that in mind, Ayami!" , the Android would then smile at her new friend. " But, we should have plenty of daylight. I think we should spend it preparing for the trip outside! We'll want supplies, for sure." , the Android might not need to eat... But Ayami certainly needed to!------- Ayami

It was all well and good what Gemini had to say on the matter, though it left the mechanic scratching her head. "The first one she chose"? It certainly confused Ayami, to the point that despite reading the room, she honestly had to ask the doctor herself to be certain what she was hearing was right. She leaned in towards Gemini, covering her mouth with her hand and whispering to the doctor:"Are you sure I'm the first one she's bonded with? She seems a little old to have never met anyone else."Of course, by now it might've become apparent that Ayami wasn't aware of Zeni's state as an android: Something that might've been obvious to anyone else as soon as they had witnessed Zeni's abilities in scanning things. Though Ayami was not anyone else, and had assumed that perhaps Zeni just had incredible eye sight. ... Bit of a strange conclusion, but then that was her. For all her genius in creating and fixing, she was a bit of a pushover in the general logic department, putting it lightly.Though she soon lowered her hand from her mouth, scratching the back of her head and giving an awkward smile. She wasn't really used to this much attention truth be told! Still, with the equipment given the OK to be borrowed, she'd be able to lend a strong hand in finding what they're looking for. She'd look over to the ever excitable Zeni as she raised her hand, speaking up on scanning the crystal signatures. The mechanic would give her a firm nod in return."Sounds like a good plan to me! I'll rough em up, and charge our broken crystal here, and you keep your eyes peeled for anything out of place! With this much effort we might at least be able to create a search perimeter. It'd certainly ease the burden of looking if we had a general area to look through. No sense looking for a needle in a haystack when you can just sort the hay to find it, after all!"Still, it seemed Gemini had a general warning for the pair, about the heartless of course. Returning to town after dark did put a bit of a time constraint on them, but...If the heartless became stronger after dark, then there was no helping it. She'd rather not put Zeni in danger for her sake, and so just gave Gemini a thumbs up, understanding the situation."Gotcha. I'll have her back before midnight, you can count on me!!"With that settled, it seemed Zeni had a suggestion regarding gathering supplies first. A good idea now that the mechanic thought about it, especially since that statement was soon followed up by the familiar growling of her stomach. She snapped her fingers, the fact occurring to her!"Oh yeah! I kinda almost forgot I needed food..."She had become so wrapped up in being stuck in this world, and focusing on a way out, that she had completely neglected health needs it seemed... She would give another nod, ready to set out to gathering supplies!"Guess we better start now, huh?"------ Zeni

Ah, right. No one had yet explained that Zeni was an Android! So she was about to take up that very task so that Ayami would understand. " Well, actually-" , the orange haired android began to explain, only to be interrupted by her creator -- Who decided to roll with the idea that Zeni was just as normal as anyone else. Not out of any sense of malice, mind you. But so that she would be treated like any living person... And because Gemini found it amusing on a level that Ayami hadn't pieced it together yet." She has lived a very sheltered life, you see. So you're the first person that she has interacted with in a meaningful way." , the woman explains in a calm tone of voice. If one hoped to read any sort of hint in her facial expression; they wouldn't find much. She was rather collected on that front. Only that slight smile remained. Zeni arches a brow, but shrugs lightly. " So that's how it is!" , Zeni adds, deciding not to pursue the subject any further. That out of the way, the conversation moves swiftly on to the plan that they will be following when they head outside of town.
Pretty simply; Ayami intended to handle the fighting, which left the scouting and recon to the Android. Zeni decides to chime in once more. " Oh, I can help out with the fighting too! That way neither one of us has to shoulder it alone!" , with that said... The two seemed rather confident in their abilities. And that was enough to assure Gemini that things would be fine when they headed out into town. The scientist gives another calm nod in response, before speaking once more." Right then. I won't hold you two up anymore. The only thing I'll do now is give you a little something to spend." , Gemini pauses briefly in order to produce a bag, and hold it out to Ayami. " This should cover expenses for travel supplies. Food and water will be most important, but if you're frugal with your munny, you might be able to pick up some other things too." , once Ayami accepted the small bag, Gemini would return to her normal sitting posture.
With that, Zeni would then give her signature salute. " I'll handle showing Ayami around the town, and where to find each shop!" , the Android proclaims proudly, then returning to a more casual stance. She continues to smile, and then nods at Ayami's mention of getting started. " Yep! Let's go!" Without hesitation, the Android would take hold of Ayami's hand, and begin to lead the way into town! Gemini only gives a calm wave as the two depart.------ Ayami

Before the mechanic girl could notice what Zeni was about to say, Gemini interrupted, providing her own stretched truth. It wasn't exactly a LIE persay, Zeni definitely hadn't had meaningful encounters beyond those of her creator yet. Gemini's reasoning was something not many could argue with anyway, she wanted the best for this android that - in many ways was treated like her own daughter. That aside! Ayami could only gasp in stunned surprise at Gemini's statement, was that really true?! That meant..."I'm her first frieeennnddd?!"... Her eyes were practically glowing right now. If the room was dark she probably would have lit it up like one of those neon-vested joggers at a christmas tree convention. Although she acted like having friends was normal for her, the truth is...The Al bhed didn't have very many friends of her own. She had family, and she had idols, but it wasn't the same. The kind of reverence and respect she gave to them didn't match the feeling of having someone "on her level" that she could relate to, and share her experiences with. Zeni was...Well, "normal" comparatively. Although the mechanic DID respect her from the short time they've interacted, it was a different kind of respect, one less filled with formality. - Formality to Ayami was stifling, overly warm, difficult to work with. Perhaps it was her childish mindset that made it seem as such, but whatever the real case was... Zeni was much easier to be around in that sense."Well...That makes sense! We had better get you out there to experience the world then!"Zeni offered to assist with the fighting, which...Ayami honestly had no objections to. It would make it far easier with the pair fighting at the same time, it'd reduce the risk by that much more as well. She grinned, patting Zeni on the back excitedly."With my sharpshooting and your wit, nobody's gonna stand a chance against us!"She'd glance over to Gemini, nodding and holding out her hand to accept the munny. She looked a little concerned, just accepting something like this without any strings attached."Do you uh...Want me to pay this back? I don't mind y'know! I can do oddjobs around here, or make the money back!"She pocketed the bag, scratching her head in thought for a silent moment, though... If there were no objections from Gemini, she'd soon return to smiling. It seems Zeni was ready to head out, and...Honestly so was she. It surprised her for a moment when the android took her hand, but she quickly obliged, carefully grasping Zeni's hand in return and allowing herself to be led around town."Seeya later Doctor!"--- Zeni
