Location: Mood: Status: Pain, and further pain; thus was Ramza's world. Taking Lea's attack full on to protect Alma took a number on him. He passed out during the battle, waking up at the local infirmary, where he learned he and Crowe were considered the winners.
The pain didn't allow much time for joy.
Crowe. She was probably very mad at him, and understandably so. Thankfully everything turned out well, but his irrational behaviour could have costed them both the match.
Ramza was prone to act irrational; that was something he needed to fix, and fast.
And, despite everything, as he laid uncomfortably in the bed, his back still hot from the burns, he couldn't stop his mind from wandering back to Alma - both his sister... and the White Mage he fought against, the White Mage he protected. He vaguely remembered noticing she was fine, but his memory was cloudy. ✿ EDEL ✿

Alma had felt a bit out of place, politely waiting on a chair in the hall while everyone's status was confirmed by local staff. It wasn't truly a sensitive operation by any means, but the procedures were strictly upheld anyway. For such a silly town, their medical personnel were actually rather serious. It was out of character, but for the better. The young conjurer probably wouldn't trust them with such sharp implements if they couldn't behave themselves. She, meanwhile, was released early since, when compared to the other participants in her tourney bout, Alma had been relatively unscathed. She'd been the sole cause of several blunt force blows, and she hadn't seen what became of her teammate. Then there was the injury she had caused indirectly, which was perhaps the most severe. The swordsman, Ramza, had collapsed from the damage he took during the fight, and that worried her. The other contestants, she hadn't spoken to because everyone was rushed from the plaza so quickly. Ramza, meanwhile, had been stuck in an infirmary room.
She'd patiently awaited the word of the staff to say she could enter, but even after that she wasn't entirely comfortable just freely stepping in. The door was open, though, and she did allow herself a peek to make herself known as she called inside. "Is it alright if I stop by?" she asked, searching the room from the entrance to find his shape wherever it may be. "Don't know if maybe you won't want an opponent so close." It was a mostly facetious implication, but Alma wasn't entirely sure what Ramza's opinions on such things were. Maybe his defensive move was completely in character, or maybe it was a mistake he felt bitter about. She didn't really remember all the things that were said, since much of that fight had gone by in a blur. If nothing else, this visit could probably get her some closure on that aspect.

Location: Disney Town Mood: Happy Status: Injured As if answering his thoughts, the white mage, Alma, stepped into the room. Ramza tried and failed to suppress a smile of satisfaction upon seeing her - something that certainly looked stupid for the girl. Ramza was conscious of the fact that his affection towards her was, to say the least, weird, and potentially creepy, but he couldn't stop himself.
He laughed at her question. "Thou art not my enemy, Milady. We were opponents in a competitive bout, which has ended. And both you and your partner put up an excellent fight." He said, smiling warmly at the girl. "In fact... art thou feeling well? Without serious wounds?" He made an effort to sit up, freeing the bottom of the bed for her, if she wanted to sit down. He offered the seat with a gesture and a smile. ✿ EDEL ✿

The compliments were a surprise. In the time since the match's end, she'd beaten herself up a bit over her lack of control during the fight. The lack of teamwork with her partner had also been a slight downer in hindsight. The two of them hadn't even spoken afterward, though he may have been taken in for treatment when she wasn't looking. They'd all been rushed away rather quickly, at all.
To her relief, Ramza actually seemed uplifted by her arrival. He even asked about her condition, though she was obviously not the one to be concerned about. "I kept myself topped off when we were running around," she explained, recalling how most of her activity was restoring her own status. I also didn't stand in an explosion on purpose, she thought to herself, though saying it aloud probably would have been rude. Perhaps she was better at reading her own thoughts than his, as she didn't catch on to the unspoken invitation to sit, instead remaining near the door with her staff, never having left her hands since she arrived in this World, held behind her.
"I wanted to make sure the people here knew what they were doing," she admitted. "They seem to rely quite a lot on their... devices." Though many were simple enough to understand, there were many different bits of machinery in the town that confounded her. Thus far, they seemed trustworthy enough, but her worries remained. That wasn't her only concern, though. "I also wanted to make sure that fight wasn't too much. Collapsing from exertion is usually a pretty bad sign, you see." It wasn't necessary, but Alma felt the need to explain her thoughts. In her mind, it was normal for weaker folk to faint from fear or the like, but Ramza didn't look like someone who would do that. Thus, knowing he'd fallen as he did had given her plenty of cause for concern. Seeing him now made her feel that such worries weren't so warranted, thankfully. It probably couldn't have been something so severe as heat stroke, anyway, since it wasn't that warm outside.

Location: Disney Town Mood: Happy Status: Injured Ramza listened intently to the girl's words. "I am very pleased to hear thou art well, Milady." She didn't sit upon Ramza's invitation, which the Knight found reasonable - they barely knew each other after all, so obviously she wouldn't be very comfortable around him. He decided to not insist - he didn't want to sound pushy, especially considering how... strange his behavior had been around her during the match.
As the girl remarked about the world's peculiar methods and machines, Ramza chuckled. "Indeed, Milady. Those devices seem effective but, in all honesty, I'd rather just have a good White Mage or Chemist. Magic and potions are far more reliable than those strange things of metal, hissing and buzzing everywhere" He said, taking a look around the oddly colorful room, like everything in this town. "White Mages are a type of mages from my world that use curative and supportive magic to aid in battle. Much like thyself. In fact, even the garments are similar, between you and they. When thy stepped into the ring, I hoped I had finally found a fellow denizen of Ivalice. Art... Art thou from there? From my world?" He asked, curious.
He smiled tenderly at hearing her worry about his condition. "Worry not, Milady. I am tougher than I look" He said. ✿ EDEL ✿

Perhaps it wasn't that reassuring, but it was certainly refreshing to find that someone had a similar take on medicine. Those machines were loud and invasive, meanwhile what she could do as a novice mage was so much easier to execute and control. Well, usually. Mistakes could still be made, no matter how simple the system, but Alma liked to think she'd gotten a good handle on the basics. There was still plenty of room to grow, though, something the tourney had made abundantly clear by pitting her against an opponent she could barely hope to faze, let alone scratch.
His next words addressed another note of hers, one that she'd forgotten since it first became relevant in their bout. He seemed to be aware of what she was capable of back then, leading to the plan for him and Crowe to divide the way they did, and now he explained how. Apparently, white magic was a normal thing in his home, even though nobody in her World ever acknowledged it. Only her books had ever spoken of the practice, and that had always frustrated the young conjurer during her self-training. After all, how could such well-written books on the subject exist if nobody knew what it was? That obnoxious paradox would sometimes worm its way back into her head, reminding her of its madness once more. ...But there were other things that were of a much higher priority then, like the realization that, yes, this person was familiar with what she had practiced, enough so that he could discern the accuracy of her portrayal. That particular statement was unintentionally flattering in how it confirmed her presentation was correct. Unfortunately, she couldn't share much joy in the rest of that, thanks to the question it led to. "Apparently, they call my home 'Wonderland', not 'Ivalice'," she denied his assumption, not wanting to lie. "To be specific, a border town in Wonderland." All things considered, she may have fit better there if her interests were as prevalent as he described, but such was not the case. The way he brought up the question made her feel a bit bad for telling the truth, as it seemed he might have been relieved to find something familiar in as strange a place as this. Alma had been feeling a similar homesickness recently, though she'd been able to ignore most of it. It was hard to say if maybe Ramza had it harder. "Are you maybe thinking you'd want to go back home for a while? Check in, maybe?" Her question was stated aloud to him, but Alma couldn't help but feel that it was a good question to ask herself now too. She let herself forget that last bit, having already decided some time ago that she'd be staying outside of her World for a while yet. To her, there was too much for her to learn to consider skipping out so soon, but that might not be the case for this knight fellow, who, though they shared some knowledge of arcane practices, had an origin completely separate from hers. There was no telling how strong his ties were, or if he held any love for his 'Ivalice' at all.

Location: Disney Town Mood: Happy Status: Injured Ramza's confidence in White Magic seemed to please the girl, which made the Knight happy in turn. His smile faded a bit after she explained she was not from his world. "Oh, I see. Wonderland... I'm yet to visit this place" He said, not recalling having stepped into any world with that name. " 'Tis very curious that the same discipline of magic would arise in two completely separate worlds, is it not?" He pondered, honestly puzzled. "I've never been very good with magic, as you probably saw in the arena. Always felt more comfortable with a blade" He said, smiling again.
As she asked him about his world, his gaze fell slightly. "I do miss my home, and I'd love to go back. But I don't know how. This strange Universe is vast, vaster than anything I've ever seen before. I'm yet to learn what way leads me back to Ivalice". He sighed. "Besides... I still need to find my sister. She was with me when I... departed from my world. Which means she must be lost amidst the stars. I must find her before returning home." Once again, his gaze faced Alma, his expression signifficantly saddened. "Thou remind me a lot of her. She, too, was named Alma and she, too, was profficient with White Magic". He said. ✿ EDEL ✿

So apparently, Ramza didn't have a way of getting home in the first place. More importantly, he didn't really know where it was. That, and what sounded to her like a rather aimless search for his family member. "I guess seeing me here isn't very... therapeutic," Alma concluded a bit apologetically, though she was already thinking of other things, like how she might be able to help. Abandoning her own objectives to support his didn't seem like the right direction, even before considering that her only mode of transport was directly linked to it. Still, she didn't feel at ease just dropping the subject. That might not come off as rude, but in her mind it'd be mean to let it be now that she knew his trouble. Only one option seemed reasonable, then.
"If you need help getting around, you could just stick with me," she offered, meeting his eyes again after she'd previously avoided them out of discomfort. "I'm going to be travelling a lot soon, so there's a chance I might come near Ivalice at some point. It'd be a good way to cover ground while you look for her, and it'd be a chance for me to meet her too." Alma didn't put any effort into concealing an ulterior motive. She had her resources, yes, but speaking with a trained practitioner of white magic was something she wouldn't dare pass up if the opportunity arose. With this arrangement, she could help out this knight, complete her own mission unhindered, and get into contact with this other Alma. Why, it was a perfect solution! Mostly. There was still a question of whether he was on board with the idea at all, since they weren't really the closest of friends.

Location: Disney Town Mood: Happy Status: Injured Ramza smiled sadly at the girl's comment. "It is, oddly enough. I will not deny I was frustrated when thou entered into the arena and I saw thou weren't her... But still, your presence is pleasant." He felt a bit silly. Rubbing his head, he added. "Sorry for venting. You have nothing to do with my problems. Sorry if I acted weirdly, milady."
He stared at the ground, feeling ashamed on unloading his problems on the girl like that. However, as she spoke and made her proposal, his head quickly raised, eyes shot open. "This... This sounds incredible!" He said.
Since coming to this universe, Ramza had been wandering without any purpose. In many occasions, solitude made him wish he had died in the battle against Atma. Having company in his wanders - especially someone who reminded him so much of home - would be amazing, and do wonders for his mental health.
He smiled as she mentioned meeting his sister. "Oh, I'm sure she'd love thee! She was never a formal White Mage, but nonetheless she know some incredibly powerful spells. She fought by my side in two occasions, and I doubt I'd still be alive without her protection. I'm sure she'd have a lot to teach you when we find her!" The knight was smiling from ear to ear, like a kid that has been awarded a gift on christmas night. "If you are serious in thine proposal, milady, I humbly accept. I only ask you that you let me finish the tournament. Crowe has been an incredible partner, and I wouldn't want to let her down".
A moment later, another question arose in his mind. "If you don't mind me asking, though... Why do thou wander? Did something happen to thine world as well?" ✿ EDEL ✿

Alma wasn't expecting him to be offended, but she certainly wasn't expecting he'd be so enthusiastic about the suggestion either. He really did miss these things if he was so eager to accept an invitation like hers. The smile of his was almost uncomfortable to see, really. Compared to the others she'd spoken with since leaving home, the other smiles she'd seen always looked like something was being hidden with them, but Ramza's grin was far more genuine. When she adjusted to the strangeness of it enough to do so, she found herself grinning as well.
She gave a nod to his concerns and elaborations, considering them one-by-one as he rattled them off and finding them all to within reason. She couldn't say much of whether the other Alma would like her presence, but it was something she'd look forward to nonetheless. It also made sense that they wouldn't leave quite yet. Dropping out now just wasn't an option if it meant leaving behind spoils and allies alike. Thinking of it did make Alma feel a bit sore, though, as she had hoped to clear at least one round of the event. Still, if she was going to learn anything, learning how much there was to learn would have to be the first. Being beaten in the contest had been a very firm reminder of her limits, and one she'd have to keep in mind. It was hard to deny Crowe's contribution as well, seeing as her offensive magics had been the most dangerous part of the whole encounter. If they met on more peaceful terms, Alma might even ask about it.
Then came the question of her motives, one that she wasn't entirely sure about answering. It wasn't her place to keep secrets, though, especially after he'd said so much, and if he was coming along there was even less of a point to not inform him. "It's actually a bit weird," the young conjurer began. "This kind of magic isn't actually supposed to exist where I come from, so when I got into it, someone noticed. I hadn't met them yet at the time, but they sent me some letters saying they could teach me more. I remember they helped out with transport, but the details are... fuzzy in that regard." Try as she might on several occasions, Alma couldn't recall much about her departure from home. It was all a blur, and something she hoped to have clarified sometime in the future. "After I left, I was actually on my own for a while. I got some help from a few strangers, though, and was able to find him. He said that he was willing to teach, but was pretty quick to send me here first. He called it a 'learning experience'."
Thus was the story, as she knew it. Finding Kinley had been quite the task indeed, and she still felt a bit put off by how little introduction there was before she was sent away again. Thinking about it again, Alma couldn't help but think maybe this was her mentor's intention. He was much more aware of these Worlds than she was, so it didn't seem like too outlandish of a conclusion to say Kinley may have known who would be here. If that was the case, however, Alma was still upset that he wasn't more transparent about it. Getting thrashed in the tourney was seeming less and less like a necessary step.
"...So I guess I don't really know where I'm headed," Alma admitted. "I'll be going at it lesson by lesson, I suppose."

Location: Disney Town Mood: Happy Status: Injured Ramza listened intently to Alma's story. A mysterious master and tales of secret, perhaps forbidden magic. For someone who grew up in a magic-infused world, where the arcane and divine arts were used in daily life, the idea was alien. It was also fascinating to learn some places didn't have native magic. "That is... most weird. I wonder how magic from my world ended up in yours. Or perhaps the Arts are more universal than I thought" he muttered, almost to himself. After a few instants, he raised his gaze back at Alma. "In my world, White Mages are commonplace. They take part in armies and are admired by all. Everyone knows how useful 'tis to have one as an ally." He then smiled, "I guess I'm a lucky man, after all. I, too, have no fixed destination, so I have no quarrels with following your lessons. In fact, maybe your 'teacher' is an Ivalicean as well?" Although Alma was the living proof that White Mages were not restricted to Ivalice, so maybe that hope was a stretch.
Still, it would be good to have some direction, some objective. ✿ EDEL ✿

Hearing his explanation, Alma found it difficult not to draw parallels between what he said and what she had read. Though some key details were missing, what remained seemed spot-on. The military aspect and public praise were precisely what had been unveiled to her through her studies. The lack of dragons in his tale was probably negligible, honestly. "It certainly sounds plausible," she admitted. "It'd make sense for that to be the case. You said it yourself, the connections are there, but something still doesn't line up to me." She had long since lost eye contact, gaze drifting to the empty air as she thought on the subject that now intrigued her much more than before. "So if this kind of magic is from Ivalice, and that's what's been fed to me, then how come..?" The young conjurer paused, considering what words had been given to her when she and her mentor had met. Without much of a conclusion on the matter, she chose not to say much more aloud, mumbling to herself for a few moments more before shaking her head and dropping it. "I'm sure there'll be a chance to sort it out," she conceded, looking to him again. "There's plenty I still don't know about it, so meeting up properly would likely be the best way for all of us to get the details in order." In addition, deliberating so much about this person without them being present was starting to feel a bit like gossip, and that didn't sit right with her. She'd save it for another time, when the answers would surely come more easily.

Location: Disney Town Mood: Happy Status: Injured Ramza continued to listen to the girl's ponderings. She was rather cute when she was excited about something - much like, Ramza reminisced with a heavy heart, his own sister.
As she finished talking, the Knight replied. "I agree, Milady. Also, it will be good for you to have company, I think. Your Master threw you into a somewhat dangerous situation. Not that you could have ended up dead or anything, but injury was a serious possibility. There's no telling what your next tasks will entail. It will be good to have a bodyguard of sorts." He said, matter-of-factly. "It will be a honor to protect you, Lady Alma, if you so allow me." ✿ EDEL ✿

As a subordinate, Alma felt a bit compelled to defend her master against Ramza's accusations, but as someone with a functioning brain, it was impossible to deny that she'd been pit against opponents far above what her skills were prepared for. "I think their point's been made," was all she would dare to say on Kinley's side. Were she a bit more assertive, she might give her mentor a few words of discontent, but she knew that, standing in front of that person again, doing so would prove difficult.
"I'll try to stay in the city while the tourney is going on," Alma explained, taking note of where different locations were as she mapped out a route in her head. "After everything's done with, we can probably find each other at the shuttle station I came in through- I think it was at the east end? The Master has a servant who helps me get around since I don't have another way, and I doubt he'll mind if I bring a friend along on the trip back." As she was still speaking, she began stepping back toward the door to make her exit, though she never turned since it felt like turning away during a conversation would be rude. As a result, she only barely avoided spiking herself with the open door on her path, which was thankfully nudged aside by a breeze before such a disaster could occur. "I think you'll get along well enough with the others. They're a..." It was tough to find a good word to describe them with when looking back on how they'd behaved. Eventually, she decided on, "Colorful sort."

Location: Disney Town Mood: Happy Status: Injured Ramza agreed with a nod - they did. Still, he was determined to keep Alma safe in her previous tasks.
He noticed as she moved closer to the door. Part of him was sad - the talk had been immensely pleasing, and he had quickly learned to enjoy the girl's company. On the other hand, it was turning late, he needed to rest to properly recover, and Alma certainly had her own things to do as well. As such, he smiled back and nodded at her instructions. "Sound good to me. I hope you can come cheer for me on the next bouts!"
Before leaving, the girl said something about meeting 'the others'. Was she part of a larger group? He hoped he would be well-received by them...
