Tournament Reviews This template is to be used for all Tournament reviews. It is the same form that staff uses. Please copy and paste the code from the bottom into the appropriate match review thread that has been created by the staff. Please do not create your own thread. You cannot review a thread that your character participated in. For every knowledgeable and well written review, you will gain 20 munny to the character account you post the review with. You may only post one review per thread. Please be sure that your review is detailed and informed. Site Rules still apply to raid reviews, so be polite and respectful. Everything a member posts is to be read as constructive criticism and is not to be taken as an attack. Any issues should be reported directly to a staff member. Damage Inflicted and Taken: What powers were used and what damage taken should be reviewed here, as well as the effects of any powers used. Basically, which side dealt more and which side took more damage. Key Points:- Overall damage inflicted
- Strategic use of items
- Overall combative dominance
Questions to Ask Yourself:How much damage would that skill have inflicted on the target? Would a skill be super effective against the character, such as using a potion against someone inflicted with zombie. Who caused the most damage? Which side would have probably won the fight. Skill and Style: This isn't for it being well written, but the creative style and effect of their strategy and if it also had a imaginative visual. Key Points:- In-Character Combat Style
- Skills used wisely
- Use of weaknesses and strength
Questions to Ask Yourself: Did the member stick to their character's fighting style? Did they set them up in a way that would have been hard to defend against? Did that character use their unique/individual fighting style, or 'X-factor' to their best advantage? Did they use their known written powers in such a way that they normally wouldn't use them? Did someone feel out-of-character? Who controlled the battle? Who was more dominant with how the flow of battle went against the other? Did a character seem to be reacting to attacks more than being the one to inflict them? Did one player keep the other on their toes more than the other? Did one character seemed more defensive, calm and collected than the other? Did one person execute an ingenious strategy to win? Did one character identify the other's weaknesses or use their opponent's strength against them? Did a character start at a loss, only to turn it around and gain the flow and control of the battle in their favor? Did a character seem to just use attacks and throw them at the opponent, or used them in a way that was hard for the opponent to fight/defend/counter against? Descriptive Writing and Sportsmanship: How well did the member write and describe their actions and surroundings. This also includes if a character did not explain themselves or were not justified in their movements or dodging. Key Points:- Stayed In-Character
- Easy to Understand
- Overall fairness
Questions to ask yourself: Did they justify certain movements and their character's fight style? Whether their post was short or long, where they able to explain their actions to the reader and get their point across? Did you question any actions or abilities a character did make? How well did you understand their writing? Did they dodge an attack that should have otherwise harmed them? Did they ignore or shrugged off attacks or write that the attacks had no effect on them? Did they seem to know something about their opponent that otherwise their character wouldn't know? Did a character do something you felt was not fair or use a power not listed/misuse a power listed on their application? Who had the best sportsmanship, and was fair to the other team in taking damage? Did someone take a hit that they probably could have dodged? Did a team take hits that they knew they couldn't dodge realistically? Damage Inflicted and Taken: This thread was crazy complicated to keep track of. On the one hand, we had Locke throwing out healing magic and summoning not one, but TWO powerful espers, Edgar using poison and some heavy-hitting Tools to great effect plus some additional healing AND getting off a blind to negate some damage. On the other, this version of Greg is frankly a monster, and Rojo was tossing out white magic like beads at Mardi Gras, plus several -ga spells. At the end of the thread, I think ultimately team red took more damage, but ended up closer to full anyway thanks to Rojo's protections, buffs, and healing spells shaving away more of that damage than the returners did, but only just. [******Rojo/Gilgamesh******] Skill and Style: Oh. My. Goodness! The banter in this thread was amazing! If Gilgamesh had landed on one of his chattier incarnations I'm not sure if the thread would have moved past the repartee and into the actual combat, it was GLORIOUS! And it kept up through the entire thread, through everyone who was likely to banter! Without impacting the overall flow and strategy of the actual combat portion of things! A+ to all participants for that. With that out of the way, special mention to the Edgar/Gilgamesh interactions here. Not just the combat, because Edgar felt spot on in the pride he obviously took in his selection and the variety of tools he employed quite well, and Gilgamesh really felt like he was testing Edgar by escalating through his swords as needed and keeping just enough pressure on that the King of Figaro was only able to throw a few token attacks at Rojo, and had to spend the majority of his actions on Gilgamesh himself. Gilgamesh was clearly trying to see what the playboy was made of, and Edgar was more than happy to provide. Rojo and Locke, meanwhile, were both keeping one another busy and providing as much support as possible. Between Locke's strategic theftsacquisitions, healing magic and summons, and Rojo's...everything, it felt like both of them were trying to pull as many tricks out of their hat/bandanas as possible to change the flow of the battle overall. This is another match where I feel like another round of posts would have provided a much clearer outcome, but we can only comment on what was in the thread. [******Draw******] Descriptive Writing and Sportsmanship: This is another really tough category for this thread. There was a lot of banter, and everyone was good about making sure their actions were clearly described and that they were taking hits on the chin. It felt like a lot of healing was getting spread around, and a fair few damage reduction or avoidance skills, but none seemed out of character or unfair. This is quite probably one of the best-done forum based PvP threads I've ever read, even with only a couple of die rolls to act as impartial arbiters. Honestly the whole thread was a joy to read, but in the end Red had Gilgamesh, who not only held back his big guns until late, but triggered the retaliatory aspect of Air Anchor even when he'd have been fully justified as someone whose raison d'être was making sure royals were well-guarded in hesitating for a moment. Again, all four players were fantastic in this category, but I feel these two acts in particular were enough to edge out the sportsmanship category. I'm going for total amnesty in these reviews, and doing each one right after another. Although each review focuses primarily on these threads, I also took a peek into each characters' thread history where battles were concerned (where possible) to determine whether or not the way they fought in this was out of the ordinary compared to normal, as well as typical behaviors of battling to gauge what I view to be the most important aspect of these threads; sportsmanship. I did deliberately choose to bind myself to an HP system, so of course I place the heaviest importance on that aspect. Damage Inflicted and Taken: First up, we have somewhat of a messy subject for this thread. Maybe it's my higher standards of performance, but there wasn't much going here overall in terms of damage being *taken*, but plenty given and should have been given. We opened up with a fair, sportsmanly set of attacks, then very quickly devolved into a pretty obvious measure of competitive "I can stop that"-ism from one team and sometimes half the other. The winner of this section is obvious for reasons I'll cover more in the next two sections. [******Rojo/Gilgamesh******] Skill and Style: Easily goes to the two FF6ers for a number of reasons. Edgar's adaptive skillset played very strongly in this situation and was used creatively, without actively trying to break anything. Unfortunately nothing came of most of it due to things I'll cover in the next section. Regardless, Edgar and Locke did wonderfully in displaying their character strengths and weaknesses. Locke was slippery as he should be and played to his gimmick very well, plus he busted out power moves during appropriate sets of actions. The other team, however, seemed very uninspired to me. The focus from the other team was very clearly on "BIG SMASH" and "I can just ignore that" which are admittedly difficult subjects to approach or avoid as writers in this type of situation. It's a problem I've seen many times and admittedly been guilty of myself. Both parties were partially guilty of this, but one side clearly had more than the other. [******Edgar/Locke******] Descriptive Writing and Sportsmanship: Another clear winner here from my perspective and my own personal views of what matters. We had one team being very creative with their skills, showing personality and originality in almost every post--my hat is off to you both, Edgar and Locke! The other team however was very straight-forward and never seemed to be overly affected by much of anything. This is evidenced in past threads as well I noticed. Their descriptive abilities were up to par for the most part, but ultimately what put them down in this category was the lack of decent damage being taken and how each of Edgar's utility abilities was essentially ignored by both parties. Not entirely ignored, but their primary effects didn't serve their intended purposes at any point. For example, the flash at the start? Imo, it should have blinded both but was "evaded" by one and entirely ignored by the other. It was a sudden, unforeseen area-of-effect blind at the start of a close-quarters match. In fact it may actually have blinded Locke as well due to the lack of warning! That was just one example, I'll save this from being too long here and withhold the rest. There were moments here that were, in my honest opinion, borderline powerplaying. [******Edgar/Locke******] Raid Winner: ***** Edgar/Locke ******

Damage Inflicted and Taken: Rojo and Gilgamesh were largely on the defensive for the first half of the fight, but nevertheless clearly dealt the most damage, partially due to having a stratospheric advantage in both quality and quantity of moves at their disposal. While theoretically both sides tossed out the respectable damage, Rojo and Gilga managed to negate/heal/mitigate most of it. During the second half of the battle Rojo and Gilgamesh seized and maintained control of the battles flow, clearly taking this section [******Winner Gilgamesh and Rojo******] Skill and Style: The banter in this thread was refreshing to read. All too often these kind of battle scenarios devolve into kill-bot silence without alot of personality. Here the personality of all the participants got a chance to shine. Likewise their styles were quite distinct, with Locke’s hit an run tactics (its hard to pull off a rogue character in a pitched battle but Metus managed it), Edgar’s artificer ingenuity, Rojo’s spellblade flamboyance, and Gilga’s intriguing grim warrior approach. All members employed their skill sets strategically, with Rojo and Edgar particularly standing out in this category. Locke stood out in the third category, seizing every possible strategic advantage and opening on an opponent despite having the least resources to utilize. While both sides did very well, I personally think that Edgar and Locke did alot more with alot less, overall being more resourceful and having to make up for their lack of raw power by being more consistently tactical . [******Winner Edgar and Locke******] Descriptive Writing and Sportsmanship: Overall this was a well-written fight, with Gilga and Edgar most consistently standing out to me in term of description. On that note, I’d like to take the time to praise Gilgamesh for showing a whole other side to the character. It would’ve been easy to just play bombastic Gilga regardless of form, but Malach took us a level deeper and introduced us to Gilgamesh tester of kings that brought on a whole other dimension to this fight. Edgar played along and soon we had a miniature narrative concerning Edgar’s worthiness as a monarch, and Lana did a great job showing us some of Edgar’s insecurities under the gallant playboy facade. While overall everyone was pretty sporting, I felt that Gilgamesh and Rojo didn’t give their opponent’s attacks enough credit a some points, and there a couple points where attacks were dodged without using actions. While this section was very close and both teams contributed to making it a fun read, the sportsmanship category shifts it toward Edgar and Locke in my mind.
