Darkness gathered into a spotless white field, signs of a heavy snow. The shadows slowly weaved together and solidified into a human form, taking color and features over the course of a few seconds. When the brief and unceremonious display concluded, Rayne was there, in the middle of nowhere. Her armor-clad body was knelt down, sword dug into the snow, until she pushed herself up. She could see through her faceplate that while she wasn't around much of interest, there was a town close enough to travel to. A small village at the edge of a mountain.
Her eyes peered at it through the metal, feeling the living energies concentrated in that little village from here. Without so much as a huff, she began to journey toward it, her feet crunching the snow underfoot, blade held at her side. The chilly air might bother others, but Rayne didn't seem to care a bit. She continued forward dauntlessly, up snowy paths, some seemed as thin as hairs but nothing stopped her.
Rayne had finally arrived at the outskirts of this little village, seeing the simple wall built up to defend it, and feeling almost amused as a result. Humans are always afraid of something... She thought to herself, a small, subtle smile forming upon her lips for a brief few seconds. It faded quickly as she stepped through the gate and entered town, immediately drawing eyes upon her. Unlike some who ventured across worlds, Rayne hardly cared about blending in. Her appearance was comfortable and off-putting, which was exactly how she liked it. With a nod toward the onlookers, she continued inward, hoping to find something interesting. ### | @tagged | Come on in! ulla

Rina stood just outside of the small village’s inn. She was leaning against the wall with a steaming cup of coffee against her lips. She had been in the Land of Dragons for almost a week. She had wanted to take a trip away from home…away from life. Rina wanted some time for herself. But… she hadn’t expected the snow. Or the biting wind. Or the chill that just seemed to remain with her no matter how many blankets she had or how much coffee she would drink. She wasn’t ready to leave though. Not yet.
As she sipped her coffee Rina caught something out of the corner of her eye. A woman who appeared to be about the same age as Rina was walking into town. It looked like she had come down from the mountain. The woman was decked out in dark amour complete with a sword and face plate. It was a little weird for the area, but Rina didn’t mind. She had seen weirder.
As the woman came closer, the two of them made eye contact. She nodded, and Rina nodded back. Wonder what she’s doing here. Probably doing what I’m doing. Hm.

Oh, how interesting. Rayne thought to herself, peering at another woman from behind her faceplate. It was easy to spot another foreigner in most worlds, but this one especially, given the style of clothes everyone else was wearing. The differences were easy to spot. From a distance, Rayne offered this other woman a soft, yet subtly devious smile before she approached and came to stand beside the woman.
When she turned and leaned against the building alongside this new 'friend,' Rayne looked back out to the villagers, who still took time to peer cautiously at the black-clad Rayne. "I see you are also a visitor here," Rayne noted playfully, "My name is Rayne. It's a pleasure to meet you." She said almost sultrily. Her faded, yellow eyes glanced over the stranger with interest every few moments, overjoyed to meet another wandering soul like herself. A desire burned brightly in Rayne to start a conversation, and to keep it going, at least until she got bored... ulla

Even though it didn’t show on her face, Rina was quite surprised when the young woman just walked right up to her and begin to speak. She noted that Rina was a visitor (Do I stick out that much? Really?) and introduced herself as Rayne. A pretty name for a pretty woman. Now that she was closer Rina could make out her features much more easily. She had a pale, sharp face with light golden eyes. Rina had never seen eyes like that before. They were a bit unsettling. Even more unsettling given the small smile the girl sent her way. The woman’s light hair was blowing around in the cold mountain breeze. Almost like she were a dark angel of some sort.
As she came to stand beside her, Rina turned so she could face the newcomer. “Hello. My name is Rina.” Rina held tight to her mug in one hand and held out the other to Rayne. “It looks like we’re both a long way from home, huh?”

Without delay, Rayne took the woman's hand and gave it a polite shake. "Rina is quite a lovely name, isn't it? Your parents must have been quite keen." After a moment, Rayne released Rina's hand and gave her a soft nod, as if in thanks. It's been some time since I'd encountered anyone polite. How refreshing--I feel almost like a human again. Rayne almost purred at the thought, but kept such things burried away.
Instead, she turned with an upstart of the wind, waves of snow rolling across the air above the ground. Rayne pushed a soft grimace, still not feeling cold but wishing to at least pretend she was. "Perhaps we'd best take our conversation inside somewhere warmer? I wouldn't wish either of us to catch a cold." She spoke, flashing concern toward Rina for a brief few moments. ### | Rina Croft | Feel free to lead us in somewhere if you like. ulla

The two offworlders’ burned with living mana, a crackling incandesce flickering in the sorcerer’s subconscious. It set them apart from in a manner more profound then plate mail and leather in a land of silks and lacquered lamellar. Through mana clung to all the residents of this sleepy alpine village, these two women were as bonfires among candles, favored by the Mist. The mountain dominated the skyline beyond the inn’s doorway. It’s craggy monolithic immensity formed a dwarfing backdrop behind the two women. Blaise’s theoretical objective, that faint peak transfixing the fleecy cloudscape, seemed daunting from down here. Ice, stone, and brume-filled sky, individually inhospitable in that innocent callousness of which nature was singularly capable, nevertheless combined into a vast sublimity that occasionally drew even long-time resident residents into awed hush. Snow lotus formed clustered outposts of violet against the monochromatic mountainside, fluttering in fragile defiance against the gelid winds. One of the women was already familiar to Blaise, through that acquaintance probably wasn’t mutual. He’d watched Rina Croft compete in gladiatorial combat alongside an avian golem of singularly sour disposition. After watching her deadly umbrakinesis in action, Blaise doubted anyone could bare the raven-haired sorcerers’ passage anywhere. However the question of “why here?” still remained. This Podunk village in the middle of nowhere seemed an unlikely place to recounter a successful pit-fighter unless she had an insatiable craving for tuber soup boiled over perpetually damp firewood. The maladroitly gregarious knight, Rayne apparently, was an unknown that nevertheless also seemed out of place. Full-plate such as the suit she was clad in wasn’t utilized in this land, and would’ve become an elegant rusted sarcophagus in this clime. But questions of metallurgy and acclimation didn’t compare to the mystery of her eyes, pale amber recognizable even from a distance. Perhaps some men might’ve found themselves entranced, but Blaise felt only foreboding. Worlds and Hume ethnicities different, but Blaise had seen eyes like those before. His former clan-mates, devolved in raving lunatics, had looked up with similar golden gazes as Blaise’d tried to drag them from the World Darkness. Those’d that survived had never been the same, tainted seemingly beyond saving by that merciless tenebrosity. Blaise drank deeply of his lukewarm tea, barely tasting tasting its grainy tepidness on his pallet as the mage contemplated how all these stray facts fit together, and how long he could discretely observe from the inn’s common room without being spotted in turn. A small smile twitched at Rina’s lips as Rayne complimented her name. Her full name being Starrina soon became a mouthful to say during introductions so as a young girl she decided to go by Rina. But the comment so innocently made by Rayne about her parents being keen for choosing a pretty name for a pretty girl made Rina’s heart ache. The smile fell from her lips and the cold wind blowing around her seemed to get cold. She visibly shuddered and brought her arms closer around herself. Rayne must have seen this and suggested that the two girls go on inside. Rina nodded in agreement and led them both inside. There was an empty table close to the fireplace and Rina chose there for the girls to sit. Rina took a moment to finish her coffee, before sighing deeply. She wasn’t sure why she was about to say what was about to leave her lips, but she did it anyway.
“I don’t have any parents.”

The two headed inside as the winds grew harsher, finding a nice little spot to sit down and warm up near a fire. Rina seemed to be bothered by something the moment they sat down. It was a quiet few moments while Rina finished her drink, Rayne silently pondering whether to ask her what was wrong... Thankfully she didn't have to, as with the last gulp of her caffeinated drink, Rina spoke again.
Rina's words came quite suddenly, but were not entirely unexpected. Rayne could tell she was a traveler like her, and perhaps it was also tragedy that made her become so in the first place as it was with Rayne. That was purely conjecture on Rayne's behalf though, as she eyed the girl and pondered where to go from there... "Ah, I'm so terribly sorry. But we're together in that, Rina. I have no parents either." Rayne said with a slight nod. Now that she was sitting and indoors, her full getup was a touch uncomfortable. So with a wave of her fingers in front of her own face, Rayne's faceplate disappeared, melting from her face into little particles of shadow, as did the rest of her armor. She was left with nothing but a black and purple dress and the greaves of black metal.
"I hope it's not too forward of me to ask, but... How did it happen?" Rayne asked politely. In their new environment, they were not alone, and Rayne doubted Rina would be so willing to speak of her private past at all, but especially not with more people around. Something itched within Rayne's mind though, not about Rina, but rather about their company in the room. Without a care toward being subtle, Rayne took a moment to glance around the room, to each of the other people. One caught her eye. She could feel he was different. Off, somehow. Almost like herself.
Rayne turned her focus back to Rina and gave a nod toward the man. "It seems we have a fan." Rayne spoke coolly.

As any good Ivalician clansman knows, a large part of the adventuring life is approaching heavily armed strangers with a penchant violence and dissocial behavior with unsolicited overtures of cooperation. It was just like, a thing. As one of the women acknowledged his presence Blaise figured it was ‘about that time’ and rose to start the awkward walk over. With a mop of sand-colored hair and a pale face dominated by bright blue eyes, Blaise Beaulieu couldn’t even begin to pass for a native of the Land of Dragon, nor could at least one of these mystery ladies. The convergence of foreigners at one table was noted across tavern by long side-ways glances. Travelers in general were probably uncommon in town this remote, Blaise figured. Three separate travelers, all them obviously from distant lands, would probably create all sorts of rumors to pass the time. “Lady Croft, congratulations on your performance in the recent Grand Tourney” Blaise greeted the known warrior upon reaching the table before give another brief bow to the knight. “Madam.” The mage gave a smile that, like his eyes, seemed just a bit too broad for his boyish face. “Sorry to intrude,” his airy tenor apologized without much noticeable remorse. “But would you mind I briefly join you, business and all that.” Tawny eyebrows lifted. “If so, this meal’s bill is on me.” Rina Croft @rayne

After Rina divulged one of the deeper parts of her history, she remained silent waiting for Rayne’s response. She replied that she also didn’t have any parents, which made Rina feel somewhat better. They at least had something to relate to if nothing else came up. Rina returned Rayne’s nod and watched as she used her magic to make her armor dissipate into something that would be more comfortable in the growing warmth of the fire.
It was then that Rayne asked how her parents died. That was an easy enough question to answer. Rina didn’t know. Rina had always been an orphan and remember very little about her parents. Their deaths were a mystery that Rina would rather just forget about. She couldn’t answer however, because Rayne pointed out that they were no longer alone. Someone had been observing them.
A young man (he looked more like a boy) was walking towards their corner. An off-worlder. That much was obvious. What were the odds that there were three of them all in one spot? It made Rina instantly uneasy.
The dark-haired girl’s uneasiness grew ten-fold when the man spoke to her by name. He apparently had watched her in the tournament that she and her dear partner had fought in. Rina tried to hold in the shiver that wanted to run through her and hoped that she appeared successful. She felt suddenly cornered. Something was up. “Business?” Rina asked softly. “What sort of business?”

Rayne watched the two in their exchange with mild interest. The new face hadn't yet introduced himself to Rayne and Rina, but seemed to know of Rina--at least in some regard. A tournament? Rayne wondered internally. I do wonder what such a spectacle would have held. It seemed as though such a thing could spread ones' name around the worlds. Rayne committed that to memory in case she ever needed to do so herself.
Though it seemed the boy was not here for pleasure. As he shifted himself into the situation so forcefully, he hardly displayed an aura of regret in intruding upon the time of two lovely ladies such as Rayne and Rina, despite his words to the contrary. Rayne watched him closely, seeing that they might well be similar in some ways, yet they were quite different in others... He piqued Rayne's interest, and that was rarely ever a good thing.
"What sort of business?" Rina questioned the boy. Rayne looked to her for a second, then back to him. "Yes," Rayne spoke, adding on herself, "and how rude not to introduce yourself before pestering a pretty lady such as her." After speaking, Rayne waved her hand dismissively toward the boy with a flick of her wrist. "For someone who carries himself with such an intentionally 'prim and proper' air, your manners are appalling. Perhaps you might wish to start over?" Rayne questioned, and then, in a much lower--even grim tone--continued, "And this time, make a better first impression, boy." ulla

“Something most suitable for your talents Lady Croft I assure…”However the start of the sale’s pitch trailed off under the dark knight’s withering scorn, ending in a long squeak like a hamster being squished in a pantry door. For a brief moment Blaise was caught in the memory of being grilled on etiquette, the voices of the house matriarchs’ rising with strained intensity as the graces of long dead Beauleu’s on hall tapestries were compared with the fecklessness of their latest sorry progeny. The oval of Blaise’s broad face flushed till it appeared to be a massive cherry topped with brown hair. It took a moment or two for anything intelligible to leave the young man’s lips. “Y-you are m-most r-right quite right Lady Knight,” he stammered at last. “F-forgive my gaucheness madam!” Blaise swept into a deep bow as non-plussed villagers looked on from the other table. “ I am Blaise de Beaulieu, and if it’s n-not too much arm trouble of course, would like to r-request a moment of your t-time.” @rayne Rina Croft
