The crash of waves came over the edges, spilling out onto the deck with every dip of the water. The sound among the gulls that cawed, and flew overhead, provided a duet to serenade the trip. A mesmerizing lullaby if anything short of nature’s symphony. It was calming, and provided Yuna an air to think as she stood at the bow of the ship, eyes fixated sternly upon the growing island in the distance. The envoys from Bevelle were expected to be delayed, allowing her time to make a hasty trip to the neighboring island of Kilika. After weeks of unanswered prayers to Valefor, she found the state of Ifrit’s Fayth worth investigating. Yuna needed to know what was going on, a small fear in the back of her mind telling her that her dreams, were simply more than dreams. Thinking back to the events that took place on Kush’s Besaid- Yuna couldn’t help but start to think this had to do with him somehow.
A heavy sigh came at the thought.
The High Summoner shook her head at these notions.
She didn’t want to believe the two were linked in any way. Though she refused to accept that it was simply coincidental these strange things were happening now. There was an undeniable truth that something brought on the return of the Fayth. Yuna was determined to find out what that something was, and let the aeons return to rest once more. The young woman simply stared off into the distance, affirming these tasks to herself in silence. Nor the chattering crowd about the deck, or the erupting splashes of water could seek to break this chain of thought. Yuna’s mind whirred with intensity, turning and looking upon every avenue of possibility as to the source of these disturbances to the people’s Calm. To her Calm. How was it that only more trouble seemed to follow Sin’s final defeat?
The unrest between the then growing factions. The sphere hunter renaissance that swept Spira like a tide. Vegnagun... Shuyin & Lenne…
Now this?
Yuna felt her stern gaze fall, as uncertainty put her in a vice grip of doubt. Was this truly Spira’s fate? To spiral forever within a cycle of strife and death? Would she stand before the flood gates every time to hold back the darkness? Was she, no- Spira, never allowed to know true peace? Were the Fayth permitted to dream? These ideas all frustrated her, none holding any fairness in her eyes. Though life was never fair, Yuna knew that truth with a cold certainty.
As her focus returned to the growing sight of Kilika Port, Yuna recalled her many visits, most notably during her pilgrimage. Sin had attacked that day, yet in spite of how awful everything had been, she had her guardians- her friends by her side to keep her smiling. She had him to stand there by her side too. Even in the years after the dream had ended, she still had Rikku and Paine, almost attached at the hip, to keep her company. Long before that, when she was but a child, even Kimahri was there. Now that she stood on this ship alone, Yuna began to realize just how strange it felt to travel without anyone. As strange as it is- I know I’ll never be alone. A hand rested over her chest, as Yuna smiled to herself as the captain bellowed out from across the deck.
”Now entering Kilika Port! Stand aside! Make way!”
A whistle rang out as the ship came to a slow, several crewmen tying off their lines to the clefts on the dock, before hopping over the sides to prepare the loading boards. The crowds about the deck all bustled about the exit, despite the captain’s instructions not to. Yuna stood at the edge of this crowd, taking the time to let those in a hurry make their ways off the ship, before she would nod in thanks to the captain upon making her own leave. She took her time in her passage through the port, noting how much more it had grown since her days in the Gullwings. Kilika had really blossomed into a bright, thriving place in Spira, despite being nearly wiped out by Sin nearly three years ago. The way it looked now, one would never guess that it had ever paid a visit. The cheerful, smiling people, the busy shops and boats, it was almost as though Yuna had sailed into a different world altogether. The path of the priestess took her to a bridge near the middle of the port, which allowed a fair view to most of Kilika’s coast. Here Yuna cast a glance back to the ship taken from Besaid, when she began to hope she would be able to catch it in time, after her pressing self imposed mission. Turning her focus to the distant temple steps barely visible beyond the jungle, she began to remember how long of a walk it was. No sweat. I can do this! Yuna would make an affirming nod to herself, before starting off again through the busy fishing port. Rina Croft

[attr="class","burst"] [attr="class","whitenight"] ❝ Rina stood at the bow of the ship, taking in the sights and sounds around her. The sound of the waves crashing against the ship was a sound that resonated within her and it was a sound that she could never seem to forget. That paired with the sea air and the way the sun warmed her skin was what her idea of heaven was…she loved Spira.
Rina turned around, so she was leaning against the railing, mist from the sea splashing against her. They were nearing Kilika Port, so a handful of people had joined the crowd that was already up on top. Rina had a pleasant smile on her face as she watched her fellow passengers. Everyone seemed to be so happy, joyful to be coming into Kilika. She had heard stories of times when it wasn’t like this. Somehow Rina had missed the times when Sin and Vegnagun had almost destroyed this wonderful place. She just assumed she was busy with her own troubles at the time but…she wished she could have been here to help protect this place. It may not have been her official home, but it felt like she was home whenever she came and immersed herself into the flow.
As the boat docked, Rina took her place in line to shuffle off the boat. She nodded politely and waved at some of the familiar faces, both from Besaid and Kilika. She had frequented both islands many times over the years and served many customers. She was happy that she had sort of established herself around the area.
Her agenda was a short one. Trade with the local merchants, visit the temple (As she always did. Even though she didn’t practice some of the Spiran beliefs, she found it soothing to visit their temples.), and then catch the next boat out to Luca. With purposeful steps, Rina made her way towards one of the merchants she knew. Hopefully, today would be prosperous.

Fool, you shouldn't stare into these eyes of fire. TAG. @fayth Rina Croft WORDS.639 NOTES. "So this is what she's been doing." |
Sometimes a job was easy, sometimes it wasn't. Right now, it was looking like this would be one of the difficult jobs. The premise she had been given was simple. An ex-summoner in Beville had asked her to check out the Kilika Temple and see if there really was a Fayth there again.
The rumors had been flying for weeks now. People claiming to have seen signs of the Fayth were becoming all too common. It didn't surprise her that she'd eventually get a job that was an attempt to confirm those rumors. unfortunately, the people who took care of the temple seemed to be really invested in the idea that the building was still holy ground, and refused to allow anyone who wasn't a summoner into the temple. Truthfully, it made things annoying. But she wasn't going to just fight her way through the people who were simply being caretakers.
That was why she had been merely wandering the village. Check the stores, get some restocking of things that she needed..the usual. Of course, she was really just going through the motions of her new profession. Sure, she had gone on that last adventure with Yuna and Rikku a little while back. But it didn't change that things still didn't feel quite right. But she'd learned to keep that feeling in the background after that last adventure with her old Gullwing pals.
After a while though, something interesting happened. Her own ship had arrived a few hours ago. But as far as she had known, it was the last ship that was going to be heading to Kilika for a long while. And yet..there it was. Another ship coming in from the horizon. That piqued her curiosity. So, Paine made her way over to the area of the boardwalks that held people who were expecting to see family members or friends who were coming in from other parts of Spira.
Admittedly, Paine wasn't sure why she had gone this way. It wasn't like she was going to end up seeing either of-wait a minute..that couldn't have been. She'd caught a glimpse of what had looked like a summoner within the groups of people that were on the ship. That actually got Paine to pay attention, her astute eyes scanning through the crowd. Of course she knew what Yuna had done for the people of Spira.
But the odds of her being here on the same day as Paine's mission to check out the temple? That was unlikely. Still, she watched as people filtered out of the ship. And one of the last people was..yep. That was Yuna. While her expression had been all too blank up until now, the darkly dressed mercenary found that she couldn't keep herself from smiling. Without hesitating, Paine started weaving her way through the crowds. Unfortunately, she'd never been all too good at navigating around crowds on the crowded boardwalks like this.
Still, she eventually managed to get off of the boardwalks, and as such was able to pick up her pace until she was in earshot of what she could only assume was her friend. The hairstyle was longer..but all too similar. The summoner robes were something she had never seen Yuna wear..but she had seen them in her closet. She'd never seen any other kind of robes like it. After following behind Yuna for about a minute, Paine spoke up.
"Ah, so this is what you've been doing with your free time, is it?" She asked, trying and mostly failing to hide the small smile on her face. She hadn't been expecting to run into anyone she knew, so seeing Yuna here..it was a bit of a pick me up for her day. It was always nice to see an old friend, after all..
