Personality:
Lightning is a determined and independent individual who often takes the lead in times of dire need. Her independence is shown through her ability to act without looking to others for guidance, which can often deter her goals because of the single-minded attribute. Her determination drives her to face any and all odds placed before her, sometimes bordering on obsession. Single minded, her harsh focus on her goals often cause her to forget other events around her, though she tries to always carry the opinion of her close comrades to heart. Her determination allows her to stand by her beliefs, but she can still understand when she has done wrong, even if it takes her time to see that she was the one at fault. She is someone who always feels responsible for others and always tries her best to push them to do their best, but she is also capable of letting go of the reigns of power and letting others lead and learn from their mistakes.
It had seemed her cold and distant mannerisms had returned, only in greater force. Though she had clear emotions, she could not find it, for a time, in herself to act on her happiness or sorrow. She had lost part of her heart for a time, forgotten that, long ago, she had abandoned her weaknesses to become strong. She had sealed everything away to protect herself, but soon came to understand that even the weakest part of her heart had its own strength to survive. She accepted back these feelings, once again finding ability to cry and ask for help.
History:
Final Fantasy XIII
Claire was once part of a happy family. When they were still young Claire's father had died, but at the age of fifteen her mother would be taken by an unknown illness. With no one to turn to, neither friends nor family, young Claire did her best to become a guardian for her sister. She wanted to grow up as soon as possible to hide from the pain of her mother's death so she could become someone that was capable of supporting her younger sister: Serah. It was at this time Claire started to identify herself as Lightning. After graduating from highschool, the eldest Farron girl joined the Guardian Corps of the Bodhum Security Regiment, while her sister Serah was still in middle school. It had been one of the only ways she could think to support them both. All she did was for her sister. She worked under Lieutenant Amodar and soon rose through the ranks to sergeant. The more she worked, the further she drew herself from Serah, losing sight of her original goal to be someone who was there for her.
She took many missions and during a monster clearing run in Bodhum's territory she came across NORA's Lebeau and Yuj. It becomes clear to her that these so-called heroes of Bodhum are nothing more than a bunch of amateur vigilantes. She met Snow, NORA's leader and Serah's boyfriend. Her demands for his ceasing their relation ended in vain. It did not take long for the soldier to feel guiltily of her refusal of their relationship. This revelation came after, unknowingly, coming across the Estheim Family at the mall. She decided to plan for a vacation and get away for her birthday to make it up to Serah and draw her from Snow's grasp. Things began to become more complicated than Lightning came to understand. After her monster hunting mission the Calvary were sent to hunt down a girl suspected of being involved with an incident at Euride Gorge two days prior. Sometime later, after learning about an incident related to Pulse and nearby Vestige being kept secret by the Sanctum, she was told by Amodar to ignore it and do not investigate.
During Lightning's birthday she would come to learn of the Fate of her sister being branded by a Pulse l'Cie and Snow being engaged and, with stubborn disbelief, Lightning assured it was just Serah trying to find an excuse to marry the blowhard. After driving the two away with her cold words Lightning finds the present from Serah, a survival knife. Lightning learns the horrible truth when the news reports the city of Bodhum being sealed off after the discovery of a Pulse fal'Cie. Serah had been telling the truth. When she learned of the Sanctum's plot to Purge Bohdum Lightning heads off to find Serah, only to learn from Snow that she was taken by the Vestige. Lining up for the Purge, Lightning was dead set on saving her sister and would ride the train to reach Serah, the person she promised to protect. On the train she meets Sazh, who joins her in her fight against the Purge. Fighting her way through the hordes of soldiers they soon arrived at the Vestige. Regret bore down on the soldier's heart and she remained focus on her goal. Serah revealed to Lightning an important message that completed her FOcus and forced her into Crystal Stasis. In a fury Lightning dared to face off the fal'Cie itself to save Serah. Anima took their challenge and, with those met along the way, the Pulse fal'Cie forced onto them a Focus. They shared a vision of the Legendary Beast Ragnarok.
Not seeing eye to eye with the group they split up, Lightning wanting to destroy Eden and cease their control over their lives. Lightning ended up with Hope at her side and fight through the Vile Peaks, her self loathing deepening. Her despair drove her to lash out at Hope, her own heart giving up. She did not want Hope to suffer for her irresponsibility. She felt a strong heat in her chest. From a magic circle rose Odin who dared her to fight against her fate. If she wished to abandon another, than Odin forced her to fight against her Fate. Making her way to Palumpolum with Hope they see the fal'Cie Carbuncle that provides food to all of the people of Cocoon. Here Lightning comes to realize that the Sanctum's fal'Cie provide for them since they day they were born. They were little more than pets to them. That realization made Lightning come to understand and, speaking with Hope, understand more of what he felt. She assured the boy vengeance was never the way and she swore to never abandon him. Some of the group end up meeting again, scattered about the city. They find themselves fleeing from Yaag Rosch's ambush and head toward Hope's home where the young boy meets up with his father. While there, Lightning sat with an injured Snow and spoke with him. She began to see why Serah had fallen for the hero.
She would soon charge to the front lines to confront Galenth Dysley, the Primarch of the Sanctum, only to leaner he was not who they all believed him to be. It tired out Dysley was a fal'Cie himself and revealed he group was destined to slay the sleeping Orphan and destroy Cocoon, summoning the Maker. They were tools for a twisted dream to be realized, but they would not have it. Even though they fought against Dysley, or the revealed Barthandelus, they were cast away by the mighty fal'Cie into the Ark where they were put through a gauntlet of trials and strengthened for the coming battles. Crossing through the deadly trials of the Fifth Ark and learning a bit more about one another and their personal wishes they would charge forward to Pulse. Lightning comes to learn of the role played by Fang and Vanillie during the War of Transgressions, but even so they remained -- Lightning remained determined. Making their way to Oebra the group searched for a way to remove the l'Cie marks, but there was not a single person to remain in the ancient city. No one human remained alive on he surface of Pulse. Soon the group is met with the unfortunate pleasure of meeting with Dysley once more and tells of his plot of using Cid as a tool to stir war in Cocoon and force the soldiers that loved Cocoon to turn on the government itself and storm Eden to destroy Orphan.
To prevent the destruction of not only her home, but to stop the cycle of war, Lightning and the party return to Cocoon and attack Eden in an attempt to turn themselves into the targets. Fighting through Lightning and her friends reach Orphan, but when they overcome Dysley's attempt to stop them Orphan awakens and absorbs Dysley in which it forced Ragnarok to raise from their ranks. Lightning refused to let her dear friend become that which they all knew they could defeat. It was their focus after all. Pushing to hold up her comrade Lightning an the others defeat Orphan and manage to escape Cocoon and each as it falls to Pulse, but as they do a Crystal Pillar arises as Fang and Vanille complete their Focus. Teleported from the crystallization of the pillar Lightning looks up as everyone begins to reunite. She could see Serah smiling and coming toward her… but --

Final Fantasy XII-2
Cycles spent in wars fighting to protect Cocoon from total destruction Lightning would defeat her enemy and, along with her friends, free Cocoon from its seemingly endless cycle of war with the world below, but in the stead of meeting her allies at the field of victory she was dragged into a paradox by chaos and fell through the Historia Crux where she would find herself at Valhalla. She came to serve as Etro's protector and was taken to the Unseen World of Valhalla, it's capital, and would work to guide her allies by sending her friends messages to ensure the two worlds remained in balance. In this world she met a small creature named Mog, and being warmed by his innocent nature she would call on the creature to follow her.
She taught the Moogle of Valhalla and of the Void Beyond and the Goddess Etro. The pair encounter Odin, whom is defeated by Lightning in a duel where she learn to cast her magic naturally. Soon she encountered Bahamut where she loses her weapon during combat. Mog turns into a Bow for her to use and overcome the challenge. Lightning would stand before the Goddess Etro and briefly become one with her, learning of the Goddess' isolation and the love he has for humans as well as the unintended suffering he caused the Seeress. In a harsh turn of events Lightning comes to learn that she and her friends are sinners for killing people during their time as l'Cie.
She could see the future through the Eyes of Etro and learn of her own defeat in battle and how Caius would trap them into a dream they would be unable to wake from. Here she became Etro' protector and stood guard between Caius and the Goddess, falling into battle with him. Here Etro' Gate appears overhead and from it falls a young man named Noel Kriess whom she had recognized from a past vision. She would help Noel upon his request and grant him Mog and instructions to find Serah and bring her to Valhalla.
She watched as she could do little more, but was finally allowed to reach out and save Serah and Noel from the Darkness that threatened to consume them. She would explain to them what was the cause behind the opening portal and Caius' plants. She would entrust them to stop Caius in the mortal realm while he continued her battle in Valhalla.
After Serah and Noel stood againt Caius they were swallowed by Darkne and sent into an abyss of Light where she saves them and urges them to keep hope alive before she vanished. Mourning over her sister's body she would look upon Etro's throne and watched as Serah revealed that she knew what would come to pas, but chose to keep fighting so they would one day be reunited. Lightning is told by Serah that she could not give up hope and had to remember, under the promise that they would once again reunite. Lightning would not give up on her sister and fell into a Crystal Stasis as she rested upon the throne of Etro in place of the fallen Goddess as atonement and swore to preserve the world's existence.
Final Fantasy XIII: Lightning's Return
Five centuries spent in Crystal Stasis Lightning awoke and found herself in the Nova Chrysalia, learning of the world's coming end. One of the gods stepped forward, wishing to create a prosperous new world but did not hold the ability to create humans as the old gods did and choose Lightning to be the Savior and made her a Divine Guardian with the duty of guiding the old souls of humanity into the new world. With a heavy conscious and deep regret for being unable to save her sister Lightning takes on the role.
It had to be a sign for to act, the whispers of Bhunivelze had pulled her from her sleep. She would become his reaper and claim back the souls lost in the swirling Chaos that ate away at the world's time. She had to travel the world and bring peace to the hearts of thousands. Each new soul would lead Light to understand a bit more of the humanity she once had. Lumina had done well to muddle up her progression, leaving behind promises that left people forced to rethink their choices. Light had seen her as a nuisance, someone who would only get in the way. The Savior would face the strongest faces of Chaos through the world, coming face to face with old allies and tough choices she would find herself slowly coming to question God's decision. The seed of doubt had been planted by Lumina and she questioned if the Serah God promised her, was really the Serah she longed for.
In the end Lightning had made her choice to face God and his deceit. Without death there could be no new world. Bhunivelze could not see into the souls of man, so sought to recreate them so that their hearts were transparent to him and they would all share in his light and overwhelming presence, but Lightning felt it was wrong. She had thought that maybe God need only to learn of humanity, but he simply sought to cast it away and turn them into puppets, something the God thought they would be happy with: knowing his everlasting love. Bhunivelze sought to make Lightning his new Goddess of Death, to watch over the souls of Chaos in the Unseen World. Light accepted, but would bury God in the Chaos that he sought so sacrifice thousands of souls into to make his perfect, loving world. But that was not a human. It was a puppet, a soulless and empty shell that followed the whim of a God.
She challenged the god, who had made her all powerful. She cast him away, but she herself would fall into the Chaos so she may watch over it for eternity. She fell into the darkness, only to learn that who she thought was her sister, was actually part of her own heart. A weakness she had long since cast away into the Chaos. It was so strong that it became an empty shell that wanted nothing more than to know what love was. The face of Serah began to face away, but Light cried out and begged for help. She did not want to end up all alone. In the face of her pure wish an hand reached out and pulled her from the darkness. With one final push the Savior would take her role as Goddess of Death and strike God with one final death blow. God could not be destroyed, for her was undying Crystal so he would fall into the depths of the ashes of the world he had destroyed, failing to remake it in his vision.
In the end Light was able to bring to life a new world, but she was not to be the Goddess of Death. She too was reborn on the world, perhaps remaining the quiet Savior that watched over and protected it. For one day God would be reborn and they would have to stand and face his wrath for their actions.

Physical Description:
Quotes:"I'm more powerful than I ever was, but it came with a price. I'm not even sure if I'm human anymore."
Roleplaying Sample:It was a mid-afternoon, or perhaps it was late dawn? It was hard to tell as everything was covered in a thick fog. Though she was a servant of the gods once again, at least this time it was by her choice alone and for a fate better than the destruction of mankind. Her figure stood upon the top of a hill as she looked out. She saw nothing but the dense mist as it collected over the plains. Her clear eyes watched as the occasional swirl among the rolls of mist indicated beast crossing or a change in the winds. Her shield rested on her shoulder as her blade was mounted on her back. The warrior had since lost her sense of time, having lived outside of it for so long, but that did not mean she had forgotten her duty to this world that she alone had strewn into chaos, or had she? Regardless she was willing to take responsibility. She began her forward march, her steps as even as her breathes.
"Where…?" She would wonder as her feet carried her to the base of the hill. There she could clearly see as Behemoth raced across the fields, doing as they pleased.
It sometimes made her wonder if this was the way of the world due to circumstance or because they were weak. Was it truly only the strong that survived? If so where did compassion and loyalty come into place? Did living creatures not group together because they were weak? Their hearts were something easily shattered by loneliness. Did that mean she was no longer human? Her time seems o have stopped as her fear of loneliness was cast away during her stasis. Had she been alone so long that loneliness no longer mattered, or had she simply forgotten how to be alone?
"Where?" She called out more loudly this time, hoping someone would hear her and answer. "Where am I supposed to look?!" How was she supposed to find everyone!?
There were times that it was hard, but she had swore she would do everything in her power to find Serah and help this world. The warrior came to a stop as snarling hiss carried o her ears. She narrowed her eyes slightly and turned her head toward the noise. A behemoth had turned to had, targeting her her as prey, the only edible thing in this lush, yet lifeless, place. Reaching up she would grasp the handle of the Crimson Blitz.
"So you want to challenge me? Come on!" She called out as she held out her arm, which was shielded by the Night Lotus.
No matter the challenge she would not give up. She would face every opponent and challenge every thing until she was able to arrive at the truth. She was no one's tool, but she did not mind using her power for he sake of another.
