How'd you find us?:
Lea / Axel / No. VIII / The Flurry of Dancing Flames
New Keyblade Wielder / World Traveler / Former Organization XIII Member
-Isa: former childhood friend like a brother
-Roxas: Best friend and Brother from his time as a Nobody
-Sora: Because Roxas may live on through him
-Kairi: Now a Sister in arms training for the same mastery right along with him
-Xion: Former close friend and sister though his memories of her are currently missing
-Namine: Former sister for a time, he kept her in temporary protective custody because he’d promised Riku he would.
Jealous: Lea has always been a very ‘one on one’ interaction best friend kind of guy. When he’s close to someone, it’s easy for him to feel immediately threatened the moment someone else or something comes into the picture that could potentially complicate that friendship. Sometimes it’s even bad enough that he begins to make more questionable decisions when it comes to that perceived threat. He tries to be an overall reasonable guy but that green monster sometimes nips at him.
Challenging: Oh boy does Lea know how to pick a fight and why wouldn’t he when he lives to challenge people? Even in the visage of what should be perceived as the most dangerous bear to poke, Lea is totally liable to walk right on up and give it a tap on the snout JUST to prove that he could. Blame the guy that told him he couldn’t.
Decisive: When Lea puts his heart and his mind to something? It. Is. Everything. He wastes absolutely not time at all.
Sentimental: Lea revels in the little things, those moments, those memories sometimes feeling like they were always more important to him than they were to whomever they were shared with. He’s into mementos…but most importantly promises. If Lea makes a promise, you know it will be kept.
Most of what Lea remembers of his childhood was a slew of shenanigans with his best friend Isa in Radiant Garden. Something was going down in the castle of Ansem the Wise, and so Lea and Isa made it their own mission to break in there. Nobody puts up a bunch of guard dogs like Aeleus and Dilan otherwise, right? It was also in the Radiant Garden that Lea first met a kid named Ventus. They duked it out to compare who had the better weapon as Ventus had a wooden sword and Lea had his old Frisbees back then. It all went over pretty well with Lea deciding ultimately to be friends with Ventus because much to Isa’s lack of understanding, Lea wished to live forever in the memories of everyone he meets. As for the break in? Well it went off without a hitch…for a while. Until Aeleus found them and threw them both out…but not before they saw some troubling things. Nothing some sea salt ice cream wasn’t able to fix. Life went on, and on and on. Still though…Lea and Isa couldn’t shake the feeling. Something sinister was going down in that castle in the research lab they’d found, and they had to find out what. They went back…but that’s really all that Lea remembered before his heart was taken by the darkness.
Nobody at all:
As Organization XIII’s eighth member, a lot of odd jobs fell on Axel’s shoulders. Not Lea at that time, oh no. He was Axel then…and Isa was Saix, the boss for the most part at least when the REAL boss wasn’t around. Anyway, everything changed…or maybe began when Roxas joined the organization. Axel was tasked with babysitting him and had no idea that in the end they would end up close friends even through Xion joining the Organization. Shortly after was sent off to Castle Oblivion to deal with divided organization members. Marluxia and Larxene wished to use Sora’s powers to take over the organization over Xemnas’ (the real boss) rule by using the memory witch Namine’s powers. For a time, Axel went along with Marluxia and Larxene’s plans feigning allegiance and even going as far as to take out Vexen who was there to interfere with the plan at Marluxia’s request. On the other side, Vexen was apparently under Zexion and Laxaeus’ recruitment to spy on Marluxia as well. Their plans included using Riku to eliminate the traitors they perceived. Vexen had just managed to collect Riku’s data to create the replica when Axel confronted him. In the end Laxaeus and Zexion’s plan failed. Riku made quick work of Laxaues.
Not long after Larxene was defeated, Axel’s reason for being there was revealed when he not only allowed Namine to escape and contact Sora but later he also attacked Marluxia declaring him ‘traitor.’ During the battle, Marluxia attempted to use the recaptured Namine as a shield which didn’t remotely phase Axel. It turned out that Sora was entering the room at that time and was enraged to find that Axel would attack Marluxia through Namine if he had to, enough so that the battle was instead turned to Sora…Sora who won and began his streak of ruining everything. It wasn’t just the traitors. There was more to it. The connection between Sora and Roxas bothered him so he had his own reasons for in some ways wanting Larxene and Marluxia’s plan to succeed. He also regretfully carried out Saix’s plan to get Riku Replica to absorb Zexion’s power.
The last Nobody, standing from the Castle Oblivion, Axel was ordered to find Namine, but he failed and she escaped. He returned to the Castle that Never Was and couldn’t help but notice that Roxas had little trouble replacing him with that Xion girl. Though there was always that twinge of jealousy, Axel agreed to hang out as a trio surprised to find a friend in Xion as well. Content to loaf around with Roxas and Xion, Axel was reminded of a former friend that he could never talk to the way he talked to Roxas. Saix approached him to remind him that the two of them also had plans to claim the Organization.
Xion obsessed with the details of her own identity decided to leave, and Axel of course was tasked with bringing her back. He succeeded in doing so by force rather than convincing which of course only angered Roxas leaving him and Axel apparently not on speaking terms for a while. Later Xion made another attempt at an escape forcing Axel to confront her again. Torn on the idea of hurting her, Axel fought without a choice when she summoned her keyblade. He brought her back to the Castle that Never was because he ALWAYS would…and he never saw her again after that. Roxas didn’t either…which was what prompted him to leave the Organiztion as well and leave Axel depressed.
Roxas escaped the Organization and was evidently captured by Riku to be placed in a simulated Twilight Town with his memories entirely wiped clear and Axel ever the Golden Retriever of the Organization was sent to collect him after much protesting and some pretty nasty threats from Xaldin and Xemnas himself. The problem was that the retrieval was really only for the sake of Roxas being eliminated. Axel was able to breach the data Twilight Town but his efforts were shut down by the programmer when the simulation was reset. Unbeknownst to Axel by his second attempt to get to Roxas, Namine had been working her craft on Roxas’ memories. She’d apparently revealed to the boy that he and Axel were best friends…and when Roxas confronted him on this, Axel didn’t buy it. Not much could be done either way as the programmer intervened again, Axel was able to escape into the Old Mansion in Twilight Town, absolutely hurt that Roxas couldn’t remember him. That hurt drove him to attack Roxas in the computer room of the mansion even though by that time, Roxas apparently remembered everything. Axel bet on the wrong horse in that fight: himself and obliges to abort the mission. The digitized Twilight Town accomplished what it set out for and Axel’s good buddy Roxas disappeared into Sora. Axel at a bit of a loss for what to do with himself was confronted by Riku and asked to protect Namine for a while. Namine’s way with words had quite the effect on Axel until Riku returned for her. There was a lot changing for Axel, certain emotional behaviors that really shouldn’t have been present in someone (no one) without a heart. Axel spent a lot of time after that stalking after Kairi, kidnapping her, really looking for any leverage he could find that could potentially make Sora into a Heartless and free Roxas. At that point Axel really wasn’t on anyone’s side but his own. Saix under Xemnas’ orders captured Kairi from Axel leaving the nobody to wander on to try to clue in Sora about what the use of his keyblade was doing, how he was doing exactly what Xemnas needed him to. He also admitted to Sora when directly asked that he had indeed been the one to kidnap Kairi.
Sora and his friends were on their way to the World That Never Was and ended up trapped in the Betwixt and Between where surging hordes of Dusks continued appearing. It was there that Axel put his entire being into a final attack to eliminate the mass number of Dusks. As he was as he was fading away that he was finally able to explain himself to Sora. In the end all Axel wanted was his best friend back. Roxas made him feel like he had a heart…and he realized that in a way, Sora did too. With his dying energy he opened a portal to let Sora and the others through. It was in Sora’s heart and memories that Axel got his final wish, a farewell to his best friend.
Lea awoke in Ansem’s lab as Even, Aeleus, Lenzo and Dilan were, but noted pretty quickly that Braig and Isa were nowhere to be found. He decides to go looking for them and in talking with Aeleus found that there was no one else in the castle. Axel was about to keep looking but Lenzo made the point that they should have reappeared in the same place as the rest of them and if they hadn’t it was unlikely they were ‘recompleted.’ Axel was unconvinced figuring they might have been blasted off somewhere else. Axel was the retriever after all. It was best to stick with what he knew so he set off to look for Braig and Isa.
His travels through the Corridor of Darkness led him to Disney Castle weirdly in the nick of time where he was able to assist in saving Queen Minnie by distracting the oaf Pete. Once Pete and Maleficent who’d evidently attempted to hold the queen for hostage were long gone, Lea had to re-introduce himself as the King had incorrectly called him ‘Axel.’ He decided to travel with Mickey and the other’s to the Mysterious Tower where he was told about the Mark of Mastery that Sora and Riku were undergoing and about Xehanort’s return. Without a moment of hesitation, Axel requested to be made a keyblade wielder which surprised everyone for some reason. He wasted no time, diving face first into his training with Merlin and Flora, Fauna and Merryweather because they were able to compress his training time.
On learning that everyone else is in danger because Master Xehanort apparently was back and was attempting to take Sora as a ‘vessel’ Lea crashed the party in the World that Never was because hey, he’d once promised Roxas that he would always be there to bring back his friends. Call it that ‘retriever’ instinct he supposed. Lea was shocked and more than a little disappointed to find that Saix his former friend was in fact one of Master Xehanort’s Vessels. He was also a bit frustrated that he had to correct everyone on his name again. Lea wanted to be remembered for himself…not for Axel. Mickey, Riku, Donald and Goofy were all with him as he assisted in defeating Xehanort’s Guardian. The new ‘organization’ Master Xehanort was forming began disappearing.
Lea traveled with his friends back toward the Mysterious Tower and after Riku was able to wake Sora back up, Lea was just chatting about how he’d catch up in no time and even have his own Keyblade once he got the right wrist movement. In giving the movement a shot his keyblade manifested there before everyone. With his keyblade available to him and Kairi joining him, Lea continued his training, though it was shaky ground at first, he and Kairi became close friends because they both had people they were working to save. Completion of his Mark of Mastery his current goal, Lea is taking some time to travel the worlds and learn whatever else Yen Sid would deem he’d need to learn.
”I want everybody I meet to remember me. Inside people’s memories, I can live forever.”
“Think I’ll pass. My heart just wouldn’t be in it, you know? Haven’t got one.”
“Got it Memorized?”
Lea sighed to himself, his eyes rising to gaze out over the amber sea of Twilight Town. “Sea salt Ice cream just doesn’t taste the same these days.” he complained to no one in particular. There wasn’t really anyone there with him to complain to. There was even a moment where he sighed and glanced to his left side half expecting a half-assed “yeah” in agreement. But of course there was no one there. There was nothing. Well…that wasn’t fair there wasn’t nothing. “I still have my memories afterall.” He gazed up to the tired clouds for a moment smiling as they floated hazily by dressed in their orange and golden hues. Absently he looked back down at his ice cream only to realize he’d finished it already. Lea turned the popsicle stick in his hand, a chuckled “How bout that?” escaping him as he noticed that the stick read ‘WINNER” in large lettering.
With a content sigh he traced the lettering with his gloved finger as if he were affectionately petting the head of some fragile little animal. “Yeah. I suppose I am.” he encouraged himself. Lea stashed the popsicle stick away in his coat. He couldn’t keep his old promise to come here every day. Not the way they used to, but now and then, Lea made the time. He got to his feet and headed for the corner of the clock tower before pausing. He knew Roxas wasn’t there…but it was so real for moment, it felt like he was. “Until I see ya.” Lea said over his shoulder before heading out.
