It was nice she’d agreed with him on how the world had become. Sure there was a lot of progress to be made, but there weren’t giant reactors sucking the life force out of the planet anymore. Nor was there a psychopathic near god hell bent on merging with the Lifestream to become a god. All the great foes had been defeated, and while Shinra still remained they seemed to be doing their part to restore the world. For now, at least, Genesis had reservations that there was still something at play beneath this facade but he’d trust in Cloud’s judgement. For now, at least. The world was in ruin, but it was rebuilding. That’s more than they could’ve hoped for just a few years ago. Better bandits and thieves than WEAPONS and SOLDIERs.
Clearly his story of events had left an impact on her. Understandable, just hearing of any one of the atrocities Shinra had perpetrated was enough to leave the average person in a state of shock. The destruction of Sector Seven plate seemed to especially shake the woman, even if it was only in name the thought that AVALANCHE had been the target of such an act was likely to draw a feeling of blame within her. Not that she was totally blameless, it was her group that had inspired Barret and the others, but she didn’t make either side engage in that war. There was certainly no defendable reason for Shinra’s action either, and it was they who needed to pay. They did of course, though not without the suffering of countless others in the process.
Elfé’s response to his finishing the tale perked interest in the ex-SOLDIER, with him placing a hand on his hip as he cocked it and took another bite from the dumbapple when she posed him the question. ‘We’, so she was interested in joining him was she? Whether formal or not was unclear, but the knowledge he wasn’t the only one with ability who wanted to protect The Planet was comforting. Hopefully she wouldn’t go world hopping like a certain blond, but only time would tell.
“If we were to search for summon materia, I have a few theories.” Genesis began, not worried of her rushing off to find them alone. She seemed to be genuine, and though he wanted to know why she’d want such things. Did she not think herself greater in strength than them? Sure they were good for an ace in the hole perhaps, but they weren’t capable of anything he couldn’t do… That’s right, what he couldn’t do. He couldn’t forget she wasn’t a SOLDIER, but she had stood up to them no? There were definitely questions to be answered in time.
“The first of course is that we could chance upon naturally crystalized Summon Materia in a cave system near one of the former Mako Reactors. Shinra was thorough in finding hot spots to drain, and when there’s abundant Lifestream energy there’s Materia. That would be like finding a needle in a haystack however, and we could traverse for months or years in vain.”
Leaning back against a tree, he watched Elfé as she listened to him talk. As much as he loved the sound of his own voice, hopefully now would begin a more two sided interaction.
“That leaves us Materia that has already been excavated, of which there are two remaining sources of the variety we need. I had passed on my various Summon Materia to Zack throughout our multiple encounters, so it’s possible that buried upon that spot we will find them though I doubt they’d have evaded capture for this long. It’s far more likely that either Cloud or Shinra are in possession of them, though with the former off world that leaves us with only one potential avenue to take as of now…” Unless they were being held by DEEPGROUND? No they would’ve used them, besides even if they’d been stored beneath Midgar they were buried in rubble by now and impossibly out of reach. It was far more likely to have been passed on to new First Class SOLDIER upon his retrieval anyway, so better to focus their efforts with the company instead. Until Cloud returned as they could ask him directly, at least. Feeling her gaze upon him as he snapped out of his thoughts, he took advantage of his newfound silence to cover what had truly been on his mind with something that equally could’ve been.
“Though I wonder, why is it we would need such weapons?”

With Elfé now caught up on everything that she needed to know, their conversation could more forward to how they could best defend their world. Genesis would then share some theories on where one might find Summon Materia. First and most obvious was to check anywhere that Shinra had been, especially in cave systems. That made sense, though she did wonder if perhaps those areas might have been hit pretty hard by looters... "As you say, we might have to search pretty deep before we find anything there to use. I don't doubt that Bandits such as these would have gone hunting for such things... Along with anyone else seeking to secure them. For better or for worse.", she would reply.
Still, it was a possibility. One that she wouldn't deny. The other way that might prove more fruitful was investigating caches that were already excavated, or last known leads. Though even those wouldn't be very easy... And it's not like someone would just hand over whatever Materia they owned. Summon Materia in particular could cost you a small fortune. Not many people would part with such a thing if they got their hands on it. She crosses her arms, falling deep in thought as she considered the options at hand. Eventually she was stirred out of this by Genesis speaking once more, and asking a rather valid question given the circumstances.
Right... She only briefly mentioned her past before, and hadn't gone into that much detail as of yet. Well, there was one easy way to explain things. Elfé began to remove one of her gloves, and then shows the back of her hand to him. You could see clear cases of scarring on it, though it was certainly far from a normal wound. In fact... It looked as though Materia might have been embedded into it at one point. She lets this hang in the air for a moment before finally speaking. "After the tragedy that occurred at Kalm, Hojo got his hands on a number of new experiments. I learned about all of this, due to having a lot of time to read... And being friends with the Turks got me pretty close to information that people otherwise would never reach."
She sighs a little. "I happened to be one of his experiments. He implanted a Summon Materia in my hand. It was Zirconiade, a powerful being that was bent on destroying all life on the Planet. Still, being able to tap directly into it's power made me stronger than most people. I could even compare to some members of SOLDIER. But the downside... It was eating away at my body.", Elfé began to share all of the gritty details. "The longer that Materia was attached to me, the worse my health began to get. Until eventually I could barely move or fight at all."
With that stated, she'd put her glove back on. "But I have a theory that if I find a different Summon Materia... One that isn't broken, and one that would recognize me as a worthy wielder, it might not prove so unhealthy. It's only a theory, of course. But we might need that kind of strength again, so if it can work... I'm willing to take the risk.", she then finishes, falling silent for a moment. From how determined her gaze was, you could tell that she wasn't frightened of anything that might happen to her in the process.
"If it does become unhealthy, I can remove the Materia. I survived that once... But if it does work out, then we'll have another strong defender to join the ranks.", with that, she falls silent once more, letting Genesis process all of this information. There was a lot to digest, and she wouldn't fault him for having questions about any number of the things stated. Especially since he had so patiently dealt with her own questions.------ Theme: Final Fantasy VII - Before Crisis: Theme of Elfe@genesis
