The darkness was all consuming. There were the occasionally flashes of light, images of a life long past- a man with flowing silver hair, a man with a wicked grin and glasses held crooked upon his nose, and then a beast with a nearly incomprehensible form, little more than a mass of blades and drills mashed together into the semblance of a living creature. The mere sight of it caused Felicia's arm and head to burn, forcing her to hunch over from the blinding pain. She slowly managed to force her right hand back down, wrapping her fingers around the hilt of her sword to draw the weapon forth. But her target wasn't the ethereal monster in front of her. No, she held her left arm horizontally in front of her, presenting it as she raised her sword in the air... and then swung down on her wrist with as much force as she could muster to free herself from her burden at long last.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you, child."
Felicia jerked upright, hand grasping the hilt of her sword while she quickly threw her gaze back and forth, searching for threats... and finding none, she released her sword, absentmindedly running her hand through her hair instead with a sigh. Another nightmare. She slowly pulled herself to her feet, taking another look at her surroundings. Somehow she'd managed to fall asleep in the middle of a vast canyon that led up to a city in the distance. She was fully clothed with her cape wrapped around her like a blanket, though how she ended up in this place she couldn't say. The last thing she remembered was stepping onto a strange train... With little else to do, the woman started heading towards the city.
It didn't take long before she ended up on the outskirts of town. Though she found her entrance barred by several automatons and glowing glyphs on the ground. One of the glyphs suddenly shot towards her, and sensing danger, she rolled out of the way just before it ended up beneath her feet, a pillar of light bursting up from where she'd been standing seconds prior. "Tch... is this supposed to be a welcoming party?"
Next, the automaton's eyes flashed red as they started to walk forward, clockwork soldiers armed with spears at the ready. They all called out in unison, sporting the same robotic voice. "Heartless detected. Executing defensive protocols." Felicia's eyes narrowed as she drew her sword. "Heartless...?"Sure, there were times when she acted callously, but heartless seemed a little harsh.
Wisps of darkness began to trail off of the woman's left arm as she stepped forward, a yellow Materia embedded in her sword glowing bright... moments before she appeared to vanish from sight, only to reappear on the other side of the defensive wall of machines. As soon as she sheathed her sword, the town's defenders were engulfed in a large explosion as they were torn to bits from her attack. Both the Materia's glow as well as the darkness emanating from her arm faded away as the woman continued her march forward.
But she only made it a few steps before a loud siren went off. "Perimeter breached! Perimeter breached! All residents return to your homes immediately until the threat is neutralized!" Felicia just sighed as she pushed her hand against her face and let her shoulders sag. "What now?" All she wanted to do was find out where she was and get something to eat. Why did everything have to be such a goddamn ordeal?
