A spark, a sputter, a bang, and a crash. Rikku groaned as the machina infront of her refused to work. Nimble fingers searching the electrical board to her left, attempting to locate the source of the contraption’s misfiring. Finding nothing, she frowned. She’d been fighting with it for hours..
”I swear to Yevon, if this doesn’t work in the next twenty minutes, I’m gonna kill him…” She fumed, mumbling and muttering to herself. Rikku had acquired the faulty machine from Gippal, the man she dared to call her boyfriend. If this thing didn’t work, she’d ship it back to her darling boyfriend. Not that the eye patched man would know what to do with it…
Sighing again, she returned to tinkering on the machina. As the girl focused on one part, her ears didn’t catch the whirring of another part. As the sound grew in volume, Rikku tilted her head at a small blue light, slowly growing from a pinnacle point on it. ’What the…?!’ Before her thought was even finished, the light point grew and seemed to engulf the Al Bhed, pulling her into some sort of portal
A few moments later, Rikku seemed to fall from the sky, thumping on the hard ground. Groaning, she rolled onto her stomach, limbs stretched straight out, forward and back. ”Oww.. That was unpleasantly, painfully disasterrific…” At least Brother wasn’t there to scold her for her word usage..
Pushing herself to her knees, Rikku shook her head and peered around. She was in a town, fairly empty by the looks of it.. A glance upward told her it was the dead of night. A second glance downward laid green swirled eyes upon a neon sign: Traverse Town. Hm… Who would be here? Bringing her feet beneath her, Rikku looked around again. High shops rose all around her, and in the distance through some arches and curves, she could make out another neon sign: Odd Jobs. There seemed like a good place to start...

Blade’s violet eyes opened to the vast land that was his home. His family owned a fairly large sized plot of land on the side of the mountain. It was a secluded place near a small village that had been built by families who wanted a life of peace and comfort. The mountain atmosphere was a big change from the plains where they had lived before moving up to the mountain. With this place, they were closer to the deity that watched over them all. The man took in a breath of the fresh air, closing his eyes and exhaled, opening them to see a horrid sight.
The forest on the mountain was burning and it was incredibly dark. He heard a scream from behind him and turned to see his home starting to burn. He sprinted as hard as he could, the cries growing louder and louder. The cries of his sisters. He burst through the door to see his parents on the ground and his little sisters being taken away by hooded men. He reached out to grab his smallest sister, Annie’s hand as she was pulled into a void. He stared and began to fall. Falling into a pool of blood and darkness..
”ANNIE! EMILI!” Blade sat up quickly in bed, a cold sweat breaking out on his forehead. He breathed deeply and looked around himself. Slowly the surroundings came into view. The bedside table that was old and bowing, the ceiling fan, and his small bed. He leaned forwards and put his hand on his head. It was only a dream. It was only a dream… He noticed something else on the bedside table and grabbed it before opening the locket with the pictures in it. It took him a minute to realize that tears were falling from his eyes and onto the pictures.
No matter how much Blade wanted to believe that it hadn’t happened, he could never forget that day. He clenched his fists in anger, climbed out of his bed, walked over to the wall, and began to hit it over and over again. He cried out with every hit in anguish before he managed to dent it and smear blood on a part of it. He stood there breathing before he went to the table and grabbed the wrapping bandages. He wrapped his knuckles again and sighed. Whenever he got mad, he had to wait for his knuckles to heal. Better to take the anger out on a wall than on some innocent person.
Shortly after, his black hair was tied into his ponytail as he made sure that his colored strands of hair were completely visible. He pulled on a pair of brown cargo pants and a plain white t-shirt before walking downstairs to the kitchen and work room where a table sat so he could talk to people who came in to consult him for work that needed to be done. He started up the griddle and mixed some pancake batter before walking to the window and staring out at the street in Traverse Town. It was much different than his mountain home that he missed.
Day 385 since I arrived and I’m still stuck here. I should be Going out to search for my sisters...but I can’t even afford a low end Gummi ship with what I get a month.” He sighed and went back to the griddle, pouring the batter into the pan and cooking his food. Well...things could be worse I guess…

As Rikku walked through the world, she took in all of the empty store fronts and locked homes. 'It just looks like everyone... Up and left. I wonder what happened...' Thinking she'd heard a noise, she stopped to look around again, her braids clattering softly. Seeing nothing, the Al Bhed kept walking, coming closer to Odd Jobs.
Hands on her hips, she took in the visual of the store front, before breaking into a jog to reach the door. "Almost the- GAH!" She yelped as her scarf got caught beneath her feet, sending her faceplanting into the door, breaking through it and landing ungracefully in the main room. Pushing herself up, Rikku rolled onto her back, holding her face. "Ooooh man...!" She didn't even notice the man making pancakes, or the smell of said pancakes...

Blade had just flipped his first pancake over when he heard the girl yell from outside. He thought nothing of it until a girl broke straight through his newly repaired door. As she lay on the ground from the dall, he just stared at his pancake, watching as it turned black on the griddle. Why do I have to constantly jinx myself...?
He flipped the ruin pancake off of the grill and ladled more batter onto the skillet. He turned to the girl as she got up. Her appearance reminded him of someone he met before, but it was from a part of his life that had become jumbled and confusing. He shook his head to clear those confusing memories and flipped his pancake. "Welcome to Odd Jobs. Sit wherever you want and mind the door."

She pushed herself to her feet, dusting herself off. She wasn't any worse for wear, unlike the door... "Eh... Sorry about the door." she sheepishly apologized, stuttering a bit when she realized the guy was talking to her. Looking him over, Rikku smiled, moving to sit in one of the kitchen chairs.
"I'm Rikku, sphere hunter extraordinaire!" She exclaimed happily, braids clattering softly.

As soon as the girl turned and faced him, his head began to throb, specifically on the right side of his head. It felt like he had been kicked and he put his hand to that spot. He sighed and nodded. "It's fine. I'll just repair it later." He flipped the pancake onto a plate and began the next.
"The name's Blade. You caught me just as I woke up. Take a seat and I'll serve you some pancakes while you tell me the reason for breaking down my door."

"Hey, if you give me a little bit, I'm sure I could fix it..." she rubbed her cheek, glancing at the door. Settling down into the chair, she crossed her legs, leaning her elbows on the table.
"I didn't mean to break it. I just... Knocked really, really hard. With my face." Rikku giggled a bit, smiling. "I'm not even sure how I got here. Last thing I knew was I working on a machina... Man, this is gonna be hard to explain to pops when I get back..." she muttered, rubbing the back of her head. Looking back at him, she took in his outfit, hair, everything. Rikku tilted her head, brow furrowing. He looked familiar, but she couldn't place it.. As he looked at his face, Rikku's right foot cramped, and she grimaced. Just a reaction from falling, she was sure.

The man nodded and slid her a stack of pancakes on a plate. He listened to her story and nodded as he created more pancakes for himself. Well...her story checks out. Not as much death and destruction beforehand though. Odd.
"Well at least you know that you have someone to go back to." He turned off the stove and joined her at the counter. "And don't worry about the door. I'll fix it later."

"Are you sure? It wouldn't take me long..." She eyed the pancakes, squeaking in surprise when her stomach growled. Loudly. Giggling nervously, Rikku picked up the fork and knife, cutting into the fluffy pancakes and munching on them.
"This definitely isn't my world." she sighed, eating more of them. 'But I feel like I've been here before...

"I'm sure Rikku. I can fix it later." He slid the young girl a bottle of syrup and smiled at her growling stomach. He then began to eat his own pancakes and studied the sphere hunter. The longer he looked, the more familiar she looked to him.
"Rikku...ever since you showed up...I have gotten the feeling that I've...met you before.' He continued to eat and sighed. Way to be creepy Blade.

She eyed him as she ate. At his words, she perked up a bit. "Okay good, it isn't just me! I thought I was going crazy...!" She smiled, looking around the shop. "So what do you do here?"

He looked at her in surprise at her response to his incredibly creepy statement. Blade continued to eat and looked up as she asked him about what he does here. "Well, I am the owner of Odd Jobs. I'm a jack of all trades. People come to me with problems they have, and I help resolve them for cash. Killing heartless is a usual job I get, but I can also get asked to help people with carrying shopping bags or lost pets."

She tilted her head, fork in mouth. "What's a heartless?" She really wasn't of this world... Suddenly, footsteps quickly approached the broken door, as a woman leaned into it, panting heavily.
"Blade! The heartless, they're coming in swarms! The second district!" she panted, eyes wide in fear. Rikku looked at her before nodding, running past her before Blade could stop her, daggers drawn as the sphere hunter approached the second doors, stopping when a little shadow formed before her.

Blade was about to reply when the woman appeared at the door. As soon as she said that the heartless were here, Rikku ran out and past the woman. Crap...I have to get there fast. He grabbed his sword from where it leaned against the wall and strapped it to his back as he ran. "Stay here, hide behind the counter." The woman nodded as Blade sprinted past her.
He found Rikku at the door to the second district, seemingly frozen as a small heartless appeared before her. He sprinted past her and slid, firing a punch that seemed inhumanly fast at the enemy, catching it in the face before he jumped back to Rikku. "Heartless are the dark manifestation of actual hearts. They may look small, but can be very dangerous!"

Shaking herself out of it, Rikku nodded, jumping past him to land her dagger on another one, watching in slight awe as it dissipated. "Manifestations? Of hearts?!" She asked, voice uncertain.
Pushing through the door, Rikku's jaw dropped at the amount of Shadows present. Steeling herself, the blonde jumped into the middle of the group, elbowing one as she slashed at another. Dancing for a moment, a small burst of fire flew out at them, igniting one of them. "There's so many!"
