@cloudywolf 432 words Let's get it on~ My chosen torture makes me stronger "Jeez, what a gloomy place." Sophia sighed as she walked through the streets of some sort of town. Though she didn't have much room to talk. Her home world was quite gloomy in its own right. It always seemed like it was just about to rain there. Only a lot of times, it never did rain. Looking up at the sky, she put her hands on her hips. "Looks like it might rain here, though." Waving her own comment off as unimportant, she began to make her way towards the harbor. If she could manage to commandeer a vessel, then maybe more options would open up.
As soon as she set foot in the harbor, though, it seemed like the shadows themselves came alive around her, rising from the ground and taking on the shape of little black creatures with wiggling antennae. Sophia didn't react with violence, however. At first, she was more curious. These things were unlike anything she had ever seen before. Were they monsters? They were certainly monstrous, that was for sure... and they seemed to be approaching. Showing signs of aggression.
and if there was anything Sophia knew after hunting monsters all these years, it was signs of aggression. Drawing her sword from its holster on her back, she casually let it hang at her side. "Hey, I didn't know i'd be getting the welcoming committee." She smiled confidently at the little creatures as they advanced. They numbered only three, and three of anything usually wasn't much of a threat. Unless you were talking about three leviathans.
Then again, those deadly creatures of the sea were dangerous in any number. Just as Lady War was about to get confident, however, she caught movement out of the corner of her eye. Reacting quickly, she leaped as one of the creatures at her flank lunged towards her with its claws outstretched. Now she was in the center, a total of ten of these creatures advancing on her. "Ha. Brought some friends. Well, i'm always up for a party. didn't get much of a chance to back home."
The creatures just kept silently advancing on the young woman. With a breathless chuckle she buried her face in her palm. "Not too big on conversation, are you?" She swung her blade around, shifting into a ready stance. "Let's see what you've got, then." Without another word, she quickly closed the distance between her and another monster, lashing out with her sword and delivering two quick stabs, following up with a wide slash that reduced her target to a plume of black smoke. ulla

Another day, another world; this appeared to be an everyday thing for Cloud ever since he got back into this universe after his bout with Sephiroth. He had landed outside of Radiant Garden, which was something he truly was thankful for but when he went to go see Aerith, she wasn’t there. At least, he thought it was Aerith but it was just some random woman in a pink dress. Cloud was almost embarrassed over mistaking the young woman for one of his best friends, he kicked himself for a little while but he eventually got over it. Nothing was more worse than believing that you were someone that you weren’t and then telling everyone that you were someone that you weren’t, anyway. When Cloud left the blue crystal cliff he came up on a portal, he drove through it with Fenrir, his motorcycle, thinking it would lead him back home, but as fate would have it, it didn’t. This didn’t surprise Cloud in any way, shape, or form. It would have been too easy. Cloud, still mounted on his back, looked around to find himself in a town much like the city of Kalm but much older in architectural style of the buildings.
“What, you think you were just gonna be handed the city of Edge, Cloud? It’s like you don’t know the way this universe thinks at all?”, Cloud uttered sarcastically to himself, rolling his eyes at his new surroundings.
Cloud knew that since he was in an old town, he would probably need to hide his bike. He didn’t exactly know how advanced in technology the city was and he didn’t want to culture shock anyone; he definitely didn’t need that problem on his hands. Protect the world order; that was the rule, as uttered by Sora, Donald, and Goofy, whenever Cloud overheard them talking about some issue or another. Cloud found an alleyway and parked his motorbike there, using a tattered sheet that he found to cover it completely. Before he did though, he took The First Tsurugi, which served as the base of The Fusion Swords, out from one of the sword compartments in the bike. He sheathed it in his back sheath and walked out from the alleyway. Cloud was pretty sure they have seen a sword before so he didn’t think a big one would make any difference. Cloud looked around his surroundings again; he figured he would just wander a little bit until he came across another portal.
As he wandered deeper into town, he saw more and more people. Cloud could definitely that he made the right choice as time went on. Cloud received an odd look here and there but he didn’t mind it, Cloud looked strange even by his own world’s standards, given how his eyes looked. The town sure was dreary, though, even for Cloud’s liking. He heard the sea, though, so Cloud thought he would head there. Cloud had a soft spot for calm sounds and surroundings. As much as he lived in the city, he didn’t mind the countryside. Cloud liked the peace and quiet. Cloud made his way over to the harbor but all of the sudden, he heard ungodly chittering and screeches. It had to be the Heartless, there was no other way around it. Instinctively, Cloud unsheathed his mighty blade and ran to the source of the sound. He ran over to the harbor to see a young woman surrounded by pureblood Heartless. She was, of course, holding her own. In fact, she had been doing so well, Cloud wondered if he should even help at all. However, he knew he couldn’t leave her there, so he charged in, jumped and came down with a powerful vertical slash, cutting one Heartless in half, right down the middle. He then walked over to stand next to the young woman. “You probably don’t need my help, and I’m not one for wanting to look good and save “the girl in trouble” but, I figured since no one wants to have to deal with guys like this, I would just lend a hand, if that’s alright…”, Cloud said, raising an eyebrow at the young woman.

@cloudywolf 313 words ... My chosen torture makes me stronger Sophia finished her target, looking around at the others. While she exuded an air of confidence, She wasn't quite as sure as she seemed. While one of them went down easily enough, there were still nine more, and they weren't going to be as easy to take down as that one. Once she took down the first monster, another quickly retaliated, lunging at her with its claws outstretched. As Lady War turned to defend herself, a massive blade suddenly cleaved the creature in twain.
Looking to its wielder, she laid eyes upon the blond warrior dressed in black. He appeared quite strong and confident, and he wasn't that bad to look at either. He stood next to her after his assist, stating that she probably didn't need to be saved, but he would help her out if she wanted. Tossing a casual smile his way, Sophia gave him a nod. "Right you are, I don't need saving. Then again, I wouldn't mind fighting alongside you. Alright, let's make this quick, then. I've got things to figure out."
Slipping back into an offensive stance, she took a quick step towards the closest monster, kicking it into the air before flipping her blade around to wield it backhanded and stabbing straight down towards its little black body, impaling it on her sword and reducing it to a plume of darkness. She didn't have time to recover though as the entire group of enemies moved in to attack her and Cloud, Lady War turning to block a creature's claws with her sword before kicking it away.
After that, she moved her sword again to intercept another monster headed her way, cleaving it in half horizontally before flipping her blade around in almost an instant to wield it normally and cleaving her opponent in half again vertically before it burst into a similar substance as the others. ulla

“You’re not the only one at this point and time, trust me…”, Cloud said, keeping his eyes on the opposition.
Everyone had their own problems and their own questions that they needed answered. He was sure that this woman wasn’t saying what she said with the air that she was the only one with problems out of the countless number of people in the entire universe that she and Cloud happened to be in. Cloud just concurred with her. Cloud had his own mysteries to solve too. How can he control where he goes? Did Sephiroth survive their bout? How come it seemed like the universe was about to end? Did Sora ever beat the men in the black hoods? Cloud knew that nothing was ever truly certain in life and not even optimism could stem the tide of any unfortunate event that has a better chance of happening than things turning out for the better. The best thing anyone could do is the best that they can do and hope for the best but be prepared for the worst. Cloud gripped his mighty blade tightly, knowing full well that he had to deal with what was in front of him first and foremost.
He paid no mind to the woman that was next to him; she could take care of herself. Cloud wasn’t really sure why he helped. Sure, it was the right thing to do, but this woman is probably wondering if she could really trust Cloud. Cloud is wondering whether or not this woman was going to attack him from behind, having accepted his help just to bide her time. Cloud shook his head and sneered at himself; he was overthinking…once again. The group of dark beings advanced forward, looking to deal death to Cloud and the young woman that Cloud sought to help. Cloud swung his gigantic blade, taking out two Heartless at once when the group of dark monsters charged, watching the dark smoke cover his blade. Cloud knew very well that he didn’t have the power to get rid of Heartless completely, that power lied within Sora. His weapon was the only one that can truly eradicate Heartless for good. All Cloud was doing was sending them back to darkness only for them to appear again. Cloud wasn’t going to just let the monsters have their way with the town though, that was for sure.
Cloud flipped over the opposition. He then spun and used the flat side of his monstrous sword to bat one of the Heartless away to give himself some space. Cloud then used his Rising Fang technique, charging into the Heartless that he batted away and gave an upward slash. Cloud then followed his victim and circled it, giving them multiple slashes with his blade and then giving it one more upward slash to toss it upward to the sky. The Heartless burst into smoke as Cloud landed. Cloud counted three Heartless that were left. Cloud held his sword over his back, walking patiently back over to the young woman to back her up if she wanted to finish off the last three herself, which Cloud thought she was more than capable of doing…

@cloudywolf 419 words notes My chosen torture makes me stronger
With Cloud assisting her, things began to go rather smoothly. Sophia was interested in Cloud's way of fighting as well as his massive sword, which he wielded as though it was light as a feather. Sophia herself had three enemies to handle. Easy enough for a Battlemage. Though she hadn't encountered creatures like this before in her life, a monster was still a monster, and a monster could be defeated. Sophia dashed towards one of the monsters, knocking it into the air with her blade before turning to another one, pulling her leg back and punting the creature into a pile of boxes.
"Haha! Nice!" Sophia smirked triumphantly before casually raising her blade, slicing the Heartless she smacked into the air into two pieces, the creature dissipating into a dark cloud. One down. After that, she turned to the enemy that had not tasted her boot or her blade as of yet and gestured for it to come at her. The little creature obliged, lunging at her with its claws outstretched. Before it could even get within striking range, however, the veins in her sword arm began to glow a bright green.
With what appeared to be one fluid movement, Sophia initiated her Whirlwind Cut with a spin, lunging towards her target. The two collided, the little dark creature being shredded with six quick strikes from the rotation before being launched into the ocean with Sophia's blade, the creature being reduced to a dark smog. Two down. Once that had been done, the creature from earlier burst from the pile of destroyed boxes, ready to tear apart the Battlemage that challenged it. The creature wouldn't get the opportunity though.
Swinging her blade around to aim the point at the monster, the veins in her sword arm glowed a bright crimson as she executed her Inferus Blade, her Magitek sword, Monarch's Mercy, erupting in flame. She delivered six quick slashes to the air, unleashing a barrage of half a dozen energy blades wreathed in flame. One after another, they collided with the Heartless, picking it apart bit by bit before it was utterly destroyed. Once the battle was finished, Sophia smirked and sheathed her blade on her back with a giggle.
"Piece of cake." She turned to the mysterious swordsman that helped her. "Thanks. Name's Sophia. Nice to meetcha." She crossed her arms before looking down at his blade. "That's an interesting sword. Where did ya get it?"

Cloud walked over to the young warrior and stood beside her, holding his blade over his back. There were three Heartless left and there was nothing in the air that said that the young woman couldn’t waste these monsters. However, it had been a while since Cloud had watched anyone beside himself fight. So, he figured that he would let someone finish the job instead of taking all the glory for himself, at least for this particular fight. Cloud stabbed his mighty blade into the ground, wanting to move his arms around to stay loose for the most part. Cloud was keen on watching the young woman work but he also made sure that he was her backup. There was no use in being there with her if he wasn’t going to watch her six and make sure there weren’t any extra Heartless around that might have been drawn into the fight by their ruckus. Cloud made sure to look to his left and right from time to time, just to make sure they weren’t caught unawares. The battle was over; it was just a matter of when and how the young warrior will bring it to an end with her blade.
Cloud’s eyes widened a bit, in order to watch her closely in battle. She was fast, very fast. Speed kills in any fight and in this battle, the rules were no different. Cloud kept his eyes on the fight from beginning, watching the young woman isolate and deal with the Heartless one by one. Cloud nodded to himself and smirked when she finished the last one, knowing full well she was more than capable of doing so. Cloud picked his sword up from the ground and held it at his side. He casually walked over to her. The young woman introduced herself as Sophia. Cloud nodded in acknowledgement, however. Cloud assumed that she would want to know his name but before Cloud could get it out, Sophia asked him about his weapon. “Oh, you mean this…?”, Cloud said, raising the First Tsurugi up a little, so that Sophia could get a clearer view.
Cloud didn’t exactly have deep ties to the weapon he had in hand. He had only made it recently. He hadn’t really built a strong relationship with it just yet. However, the sword he wielded before hand was a sword of history, friendship, and legacy. It was a sword that his best friend Zack had bestowed upon him before he died. The sword had seen wear, tear, and rust overtime, and Cloud had let it age but because of his newfound zeal and because of him wanting to honor Zack’s memory, he refurbished and cleaned the sword known as the Buster Sword and kept it in Aerith’s church. Cloud looked at the sword and looked at the woman before him, realizing he had been in deep thought and it had shown on his face, when he took a trip down memory lane. Cloud wasn’t going to burden her with all the details. She didn’t ask for the story, Cloud didn’t know her, and it was too long of a story to tell. Cloud let his sword arm rest, and kept his eyes on the woman.
“…I-uh...I made it myself. It was nice to meet you too, Sophia. My name's Cloud. I assume you’ll be ok from here on out?”, Cloud said, wondering which world Sophia might be from, since she clearly wasn’t from the one that they found themselves in.

@cloudywolf 286 words notes My chosen torture makes me stronger As Cloud raised his sword for Sophia to get a closer look, she approached the warrior and quickly fell into her examining pose, bending over slightly with her hands on her knees. She looked the blade up and down. It was definitely an advanced piece of work... and this fighter made it himself! That was impressive indeed. Even she couldn't make weapons. Though Sophia herself didn't see much of a need.
Her sword was made by the best scientists and blacksmiths her uncle could muster. It was a marvel of Magitek engineering on her world. It didn't exactly need repairs and Sophia didn't know enough to repair it even if she had to. That was an engineer's job. She was a warrior. While she didn't believe people needed to "stay in their lanes" as some of the Magi would have put it, she was quite comfortable in her own lane now. She was a soldier. A warrior. While her fate might have been vastly different if but a couple of events had been changed, there was no use thinking about that now.
One couldn't change the past after all. Looking up at Cloud, she gave him a smile and a nod in acknowledgement of his introduction before standing up straight again. "It's an impressive blade. The fact that you made it yourself is even more so. Are you a blacksmith, then, Cloud? I haven't seen one of that craft that can fight as well as you. Where did you train?" Sophia was infinitely curious about these denizens from other worlds. They appeared to be quite varied in speech, appearance, and moral fiber. Lady War simply wondered where Cloud fell on the list of people she had met. ulla

Cloud stepped back a little, keeping his sword arm elevated, so that the woman could take her gander at his weapon. Cloud wasn’t really into being too close to people he didn’t know, of course, he was sure that he wasn’t the only one with that mindset. Cloud’s mind wandered a little bit, as he usually did. Cloud wasn’t sure if she got all that she hoped for when Cloud literally drew her attention upward when he introduced himself. In the past, Cloud probably wouldn’t have. Cloud, back then, figured the less people knew about him, the better it was for them, and less people for his enemies to go after so he could keep their focus on him and him alone. However, these days, Cloud wasn’t worried, not anymore. He had learned to trust other people and to lean on others, and as soon as he learned to do that, it was as if the weight of the universe was lifted off of Cloud’s shoulders. Cloud knew that he didn’t deserve the people that loved him but he also knew that he was not about to give them up simply because he felt that he didn’t deserve them. You never ask why a blessing was sent.
Cloud sheathed his blade in his back holster. He wondered where the female warrior was from. Could she from a universe like his own? It was highly likely with a weapon like that. Cloud acknowledged her compliment with a nod and a slight smile. She had asked if Cloud was a blacksmith and that she had never seen a blacksmith with the skill that Cloud had. Cloud hadn’t had someone compliment him like that in a long time. He would probably would hear it more often if he put himself in solitude for so long. It felt good to hear that, although, he was no blacksmith. He didn’t make weapons often. He just didn’t want to use the Buster Sword because it was getting ruined and it was more of a memento than a weapon. It was a treasured possession and he didn’t want to disrespect the friend that gave it to him. That weapon meant a lot to Cloud, so he created his own legacy while preserving that of his best friend Zack’s. “Uh, no. I’m not a blacksmith or anything like that. It was made to preserve a legacy of a friend of mine, that’s all.”, Cloud said, looking away.
Cloud often looked away on sensitive subjects. He was never really good at hiding his intentions or what he is feeling at that moment in time. His best friend Zack and what happened on the day when he handed Cloud the Buster Sword was always a sensitive topic for Cloud. Cloud didn’t really know who this woman was and while to anyone, these questions were run of the mill among warriors, it wasn’t the case for Cloud. It was then that she asked where he trained. Cloud’s glowing eyes then snapped over to Sophia. How Cloud learned to fight was also a touchy subject as well; did this woman not have any other questions to ask? Why couldn’t this woman ask where to go from where she was?
“I'm self-taught.”, Cloud said, wanted to leave it at that. Cloud didn’t want to be rude but he didn’t want to bare himself to a woman he didn’t even know. “How about yourself? Did you make your weapon yourself or did you buy yours? Where did you train?”, Cloud asked, hoping to take the attention off of himself.

@cloudywolf 000 notes My chosen torture makes me stronger "Preserving a legacy, huh?" She didn't probe any further, though. It seemed that this subject was a little sensitive and she didn't want to risk upsetting him before she hardly got the chance to learn anything at all. Besides, something else caught her interest; the fact that he was self taught in the art of the blade. "Really? You learned that all by yourself? No teacher or anything?"
She chuckled. Being able to fight so well by teaching yourself was impressive indeed. So impressive that Sophia doubted the story a little bit. Still, she had no reason to believe he was lying, so she let it slide for now. When Cloud returned her questions, she smiled. "Mine was made for me. By the very same people who trained me in fact." She wouldn't tell him everything, but she would at least tell him a little about her past.
"I was trained to be a... weapon? I guess that's what you would call it. They didn't treat me like a soldier or a human being, so I guess I was just a weapon to them. They did some weird magic and science mumbo jumbo to give me my abilities, then they taught me how to fight. The scientists and the blacksmiths gave me this blade to take advantage of my new powers." She smiled and put a hand on the pommel of her sword. "They call me a battlemage. Ever hear of something like that?"
While she left out some of the most important parts; like the fact that her soul was combined with that of some dark creature to augment her casting abilities-- a process that was quite painful-- she felt like she told him enough. Enough to keep the conversation going at least. ulla

Cloud nodded slowly, when she repeated what he had just said, affirming that she had heard right. Cloud was very keen on keeping his cards close to his chest. He didn’t know who she was or where she came from. There was always that chance that a person might be genuine but it was better to be safe than sorry. The less kinks in Cloud’s armor, the longer he would be allowed to survive and do what he can wherever he could. There was too much darkness to ward off, and the light was too short-handed as it was to stem the tide against the Heartless. However, Cloud sensed something. He hadn’t felt this way since he and his friends had been at war with Sephiroth. However, in spite of this, Cloud felt great dark energy looming and it was going to hit soon it was going to hit very, very hard. He knew it was but he didn’t know where it was coming from. He didn’t know who was riding this wave of darkness but Cloud had to be prepared. Cloud was not a wielder of the Keyblade and he sure didn’t have anything at his disposal that would rid the worlds of the Heartless and Nobodies for good but he was going to do whatever it took to fight back against it.
Cloud nodded again when Sophia asked if he had really learned everything on his own. Cloud still couldn’t look her in the eyes though. There was just more to Cloud’s story. Him self teaching himself was only half true. He wouldn’t be able to do 90% of the things that he was able to do if it wasn’t for him watching the likes of Zack and Sephiroth and him being subjected to Mako and Jenova Cells. Cloud was able to relax though when Sophia started talking about herself. It was then that Cloud slowly brought his sharp, glowing gaze back to Sophia’s person. Cloud narrowed his eyes, making it a point to pay attention that what she had been saying. She said that the blade she carried was made by the people that trained her and that she had been trained to be a weapon, which clearly meant that how she was treated might have fallen short of what might be considered to be humane. From the looks of things, it would appear that she escaped their grasp.
“Really, so you’re on the run, then? Where are you from?”, Cloud wondered, keeping his eyes on the young warrior.
Cloud crossed his arms over his chest, having developed a bit of interest in the warrior that was before him. However, he would be crazy to drop down his guard. He made sure that he was well aware of his surroundings as always. He wasn’t sure if this young warrior was being tracked at all. He had no problem helping her since she didn’t stab him in the back during battle. Although given the fact that he really couldn’t control which world he landed in, it might take too long if this woman needed his help in defending herself against the men and women that created her if they were indeed after her.
