How'd you find us?:
King Mickey Mouse
Nickname:
’Mickey’ ‘Your Majesty’ ‘Your Highness’
Age:
(Disney Town Resident) 90
Gender:
Male
Job:
King / Sorcerer’s Apprentice / Keyblade Wielder
Side:
Light (Regardless of being chosen by the Keyblade of the Darkness)
Family:
Queen Minnie (His Wife), Pluto (his Dog)
Personality:
To those who would first encounter the mouse, they would note a seemingly naïve and positive nature and in this situation very likely underestimate him. Mickey does not hesitate to introduce himself, shake some hands and get to working his absolute hardest to cheer up a companion whether they are a friend or simply acquaintance. One might even find that it is difficult not to be friends with Mickey as even the most reserved of folks find themselves quite taken with him. It isn’t even the sense of adventure or mischievous tenacity that truly counts when you’re in the presence of the mouse. It is that even in the face of certain peril, such a small underestimated being would show unyeilding bravery and determination. His protective instinct seems to be unrivaled and he will readily hurl himself to the killing blow meant for someone else, even an enemy simply because he would believe it to be the right thing to do.
What Mickey is very short on is enemies, but the queen’s light help someone who could be considered one. Only those who have brought pain and fear to his friends would be considered enemies and this underestimated little mouse king would fight mercilessly on the behalf of his many loved ones given the opportunity. His overall personality is so alarmingly pure that this may largely attribute to the reason that the realm of darkness chose the mouse king to wield its keyblade in the first place. Mickey seems to be almost entirely unaffected by the usual presence or temptations of darkness that folks are often afflicted with and may very well be one of the only beings in all the worlds who could hope to survive such prolonged exposure to the Realm of Darkness.
History:
Yes Cap’n Pete! The existence of other worlds became apparent to young Mickey very early in his life. As a mouseling, Mickey was only a lowly deck hand destined to man the old Steamboat Willie down the calm, boring waters of the Timeless River. A mouse employed by a mean tabby cat did well to keep his squeaking to himself and Cap’n Pete was among the meanest. It wasn’t all bad. Mickey did enjoy the smooth ride over the cool waters but he couldn’t help the feeling that there was so much more out there. A curious thing happened to him one night when his very own home was attacked, invaded by these strange dark shadowy creatures! He also learned he wasn’t alone in this. Why, these creatures seemed to be popping up like weeds only to run amok on the entire town! With the arrival of these creatures, came the arrival of three heroes whom Mickey would later learn weren’t only from another world but also from the future. Looking back, he is grateful to have met Sora, Donald and Goofy then. If he hadn’t, he wouldn’t have been inspired to travel to other worlds. With the worlds beginning to open and things around them changing, Donald and Goofy from his own world and time traveled with the mouse to the Country of the Musketeers.
All for one and One for all!
In this new world Mickey learned, much to his dismay, that there was another Pete and while he had his reservations on the issue, Mickey Mouse and his two pals were given the task of guarding Princess Minnie under the title of ‘Musketeer’ by Cap’n Pete himself…well the Captain of the Musketeers anyway. Though they found some time to train, the three of them were still fairly green in their choice weaponry. Mickey also found some time to get to know the princess and fall hopelessly in love with her. At one point the princess’ carriage was attacked on their watch, and when they were able to track town the attackers and rescue the princess from them, Mickey, Donald and Goofy learned that they and the attackers had an employer in common. Pete was planning a mutiny on the Kingdom for power all along and he was the one that the princess needed protection from. The Musketeers, however, were able to thwart Pete’s plans. The kingdom out of peril and the Princess and our mouseling hero madly in love, of course the two married. The Princess became Queen and Mickey Mouse the King of what is now known today as ‘Disney Castle.’
A King and a Sorcerer’s Apprentice
Being King, however, did not mean that it was time for happily ever after. It meant everything to Mickey to be a wise and fair king and his rise to power came from his instinct to protect. That was not going to fade from habit any time soon, and Queen Minnie his patient and understanding bride agreed that he would not be the mouse she fell in love with otherwise. The task of watching over Disney Castle and the surrounding toon town fell mostly to Queen Minnie as she had the experience and understanding it would take to run a kingdom, and Mickey was taken on as an apprentice under Master Yen Sid where he studied the arts of sorcery and the Keyblade. A mouse of adventure, Mickey admittedly struggled with keeping his hands off of items around the mysterious tower when the Master was not watching. Regardless of the few hiccups that exposure to dark magic did cause, Mickey was able to attain full mastery of the Keyblade and was given the Star Seeker by his master.
Even after the completion of the Mark of Mastery, Mickey struggled with his mischievous need for adventure. His hands were guided by those of fate to the Star Shard: another magical item housed in the Mysterious Tower that the apprentice mouse did not have permission to touch. The shard teleported him to the Keyblade Graveyard where Mickey found himself immersed immediately into the fray of a battle between a boy called ‘Ventus’ and one called ‘Vanitas’ and efore he is able to truly comprehend the trouble he’d become involved with he was teleported once again, this time to a world called ‘Radiant Garden’ where he along with a girl named ‘Aqua’ worked together to rescue a little girl from creatures born of negative emotion. The usual misfortunes of playing with unsanctioned magical items caught up with the mouse quickly when was found by the same Vanitas from before and knocked out, evidently found then by Ventus only to end up cast into space by a vortex. If not for Aqua finding him there and taking him back to the Mysterious Tower, he might have disappeared forever.
Mickey and Aqua left to assist Ventus and their friend Terra just as a dark fiend by the name of ‘Master Xehanort’ was accomplishing his apparent goal of fusing Ventus and Vanitas as one to forge some sort of weapon. The happenings at this strange place were so beyond the mouse and it was all that the bewildered king could do in the end to steal away Aqua and Ventus before they were consumed by what Mickey could only really describe as a ‘terrible storm.’ Their exchanged ‘goodbyes’ were not hopeful ones. While Mickey and Aqua were able to free Ventus from Vanitas, they discovered that he no longer possessed a heart and they had absolutely no idea what had become of Terra. Aqua left the Mysterious tower, taking the shell of Ventus with her, and Mickey in shame faced his Master returning the Star Shard and the Star Seeker. Expecting to go home to Minnie and tell her that he’d failed his mastery and mistakenly got involved with the insanity of other worlds, Master Yen Sid surprises him by giving him back the Keyblade Star Seeker and naming him a ‘Keyblade Master.’ Even with such a brave title, Mickey would never forget the things he’d seen.
The new Threat Arising
For years, Mickey thrived in his reign over Disney Castle but also spent some of his time in worlds he’d visited traveling there on a ship fashioned of the material of the barrier between worlds: a concept of the first created ‘gummi ships.’ In these years Mickey still obsessed with the idea of interstellar travel hurtled through space with his friend Scrooge McDuck, the project in mind being the effective set up of a transit system between worlds. Through his travels he forged relationships with residents in the Radiant Garden as well as some other worlds. The trips, however, began to be more and more dangerous, the Appearance of creatures called ‘the Heartless’ put an end to the project. The king entirely concerned with the growing darkness between the worlds becoming a threat unlike any before brought, he brought his burden to ‘Ansem the Wise’ the Sage of Radiant Garden. To this day Mickey wishes that he’d paid more mind to the fact that Ansem had an assistant who was also called ‘Xehanort.’ It never occurred to him then that this man was a fragment of the same Master Xehanort that had brought so much suffering to the lives of Mickey’s three friends Aqua, Ventus, and Terra.
Before any real precautionary measures could be taken, the worlds were at odds with the growing dark, some of them becoming swallowed up in the abyss entirely left only as an absent star in the vastness of space. Ansem immersed himself in the understanding of these Heartless and the nature of their arrival producing several research notes but it was up to Mickey to seek the way to stop the worlds from disappearing all together. With Ansem’s help he was able to piece together that the worlds were connected and corridors have been opened allowing the heartless in to storm the worlds in search of hearts to consume. Only the keyblade seemed to have any real effect on the defeat of the more powerful of the Heartless as they seemed equipped with the ability of releasing the stolen. Knowing that his attentions were claimed for the time being, the king left a note with his trusty dog Pluto for his queen and his court instructing his court wizard Donald and the captain of his knights Goofy to find another Keyblade wielder. He’d need all the help he could get. Mickey’s search for clues in this mystery of not only where the worlds were actually disappearing to but also the apparent evidence that there was a dastardly group out there that was taking advantage of the mindless actions of the heartless, lead the mouse to Traverse Town. It was there that he slipped through a dark corridor and was brought to the Realm of Darkness.
A Denizen of the Dark
The Kingdom Keyblade of the dark realm chose the mouse master. For some time he wandered the realm of darkness seemingly immune to its usual maddening effect. He was the realm’s chosen and yet he could remain steadfast in his allegiance to the light. His true keyblade in hand, Mickey was eventually joined by a boy called ‘Riku’ whose own heart and soul were ejected from his body forcefully by the Heartless half of Xehanort who was wreaking havoc and using Ansem’s name all the while. Riku having learned in all this that the Door to Darkness must be sealed from both sides to keep the Realm of Light from the continued invasion of heartless explained everything to the king. As Mickey hoped they would, Goofy and Donald found the keyblade wielder Sora and on the other side of the door, Sora Goofy and Donald defeated the ‘Ansem’ imposter and together both wielders, Sora and Mickey both sealed the door leaving the king and Riku trapped within the realm of Darkness.
The two worked together in their attempts to free themselves from the realm and with time Riku was able to return to the Realm of Light appearing physically in a mysterious Castle. Mickey however wasn’t so lucky and had to settle for relying on Riku to get them out of this castle as Mickey was only able to manifest an illuminated ball of consciousness. The frustration that came with being scattered across realms in such a way was almost indescribable. Thankfully, it became clear with each floor they descended that Mickey’s strength and aptitude for crossing the realm was growing. Just before the two of them met with a mysterious and gratingly familiar man who went by the name of ‘DiZ’ Mickey was able to finally fully manifest into the realm of light and in just the nick of time too! Both himself and Riku were given black cloaks to stay under the evident radar of an group of ‘people’ called Organization XIII. It was explained to them that this group was not made up of people at all but entities called ‘Nobodies:’ the shells left behind when a heart is taken. They learned that also that Sora, Donald and Goofy were trapped by the Nobodies and rendered comatose, their memories stolen. A whole new threat with the Nobodies on the rise and the Heartless still very much around, the king’s plate at that point was overwhelmingly full.
Parted Ways
Riku, Mickey’s newest (and after everything they’d been through) closest friend went on to face ‘Ansem’ in the realm of Darkness in attempt to reclaim himself and his body. He asked Mickey to promise to destroy him if he failed and lost himself but the king just couldn’t promise him that. What he could promise was that would overcome the odds and find another way to save him. Luckily it didn’t come to that. In a way Riku did win but he was once again nearly trapped within the realm of darkness. Riku had gotten Mickey out of the realm before and the mouse refused the idea that his friend would be trapped so this time, Mickey led Riku back to the light. The two of them finally escaped the mysterious Castle Oblivion together and they headed to Hallow Bastion to regain their bearings. Riku, however, buckled evidently still subject to ‘Ansem’s dark remnants. Riku refused any help and he left which tore the old mouse apart. It was quite some time later that Mickey even came across Riku again…only he didn’t recognize him. Riku was Ansem, well Xehanort’s heartless really. Mickey nearly attacked his friend in error! It was only the fact that ‘Ansem’ stood before him and didn’t attack that gave Riku the chance to explain himself.
Though it was an extensively severe mark against his personal moral code, Mickey promised Riku that he would not tell Sora anything about Riku or his condition and Riku later insisted once more when returned to Mickey to give him a munny pouch for Sora that he’d stolen from a created simulation of a place called ‘Twilight Town.’ With DiZ’s and Namine’s help through the simulated Twighlight Town, Sora and Donald and Goofy were finally reawakened through the restored memories of Sora’s Nobody: Roxas, and eagerly the king sought them out. There was just so much they needed to know and they needed to know it immediately! Low and behold as they were exploring Twilight Town and attempting to piece together what had occurred, Sora Donald and Goofy were attacked by Dusks some of the lower ranked Nobodies. Mickey stepped into help them and once the Nobodies were dispatched, he handed the trio the gift from Riku and the instruction to seek out Master Yen Sid for help while he and DiZ continued in their research and work on the Organization. As often as he could get away, Mickey helped the chosen and his companions out of sticky situations. He headed to Hallow Bastion hoping that he would cross pass with Sora and the others and he had his chance when he learned that they needed to get into Ansem’s computer. Mickey was able to not only assist them with the password but also reveal the truth about many misconceptions including the falsity of the ‘Ansem’ they thought they knew and that it was really the heartless of Xehanort they’d defeated. Mickey also revealed to them the name of the leader of Organization XIII and his connection to Xehanort. Sora, Donald and Goofy with help from some of the Radiant Garden residents were able to deal with the town defense system through Ansem’s computer. While they were there it fell to Mickey and many of the residents to stop summoned a wave of heartless, learning that Maleficent had returned and had summoned them to destroy the Radiant Garden for good. It turned out that the Organization XIII were evidently prowling the area as well. Too much was happening at once and time was of the essence and of course Sora and the others arrived to assist with the rampant Heartless as well. Mickey attempted to order Sora and the others leave the drawn out battle of the Heartless to him and residents of Radiant Garden and to focus on going after the organization but they had made friends with the residents just as Mickey had over time, Leon, Yuffie, Aerith, Cid, Merlin and the others. Just as Mickey couldn’t, Sora, Donald and Goofy couldn’t either. They directly disobeyed and charged right on past him. Mickey supposed that they wouldn’t have been the same Sora Donald and Goofy he knew if they hadn’t.
On that day, Mickey could have perished from a falling boulder that was loosened by the pounding march of the Heartless. If Goofy hadn’t pushed him out of the way and taken the hit, he certainly would have died and for a devastating moment he was sure that his dear friend Goofy had. In a fury, Mickey himself of the dark cloak, no desire left in him to hide himself or who and what he fought for. To his relief, Goofy eventually came to and he couldn’t help but throw his arms around the oaf. The four of them, the king, the chosen one, the court wizard and the king’s guard pushed through the waves of heartless to confront the leader of the Organization himself, Xemnas to find out what he was doing here and why they were interested in the Heartless. The ominous leader attempted escape through a corridor of darkness, but Mickey wasn’t having it. He’d nearly lost a friend that day and he was not about to lose one of the culprits of all of the madness.
Mickey dove into the corridor, but he just wasn’t fast enough to keep up with Xemnas. He hurdled through the dark corridor only able to get as far as Twilight Town before something separated him from his hold and he was met with a dead end. Just because he couldn’t follow Xemnas didn’t mean he wasn’t able to see where the Nobody had run off to. It wasn’t long before the others were able to reconvene with him in Twilight Town. Through the same Twilight Town simulation that DiZ had used to help recover Sora’s memory, Mickey was able to help them and the others into The World that Never Was. Noting that DiZ was missing look for him. It was good that he had as he found him in time to rescue him from a wave of Dusks. DiZ had taken it upon himself to attempt to stop Xemnas with his machine the encoder. He was attempting to convert Kingdom Hearts which Xemnas had been engorging on human hearts for later extractable power, into mere data. Upon rescue DiZ revealed his identity as the true ‘Ansem the Wise’ and Mickey couldn’t have been happier to see his old friend who explained that he felt that it was his personal responsibility to stop the Organization as their leader was his former apprentice’s Nobody. Ansem also confessed to Mickey that day that he had a lot to do with Riku’s affliction and that much of the experimenting, the obsession with the heart was his own burden, leaving Mickey torn on his feelings for his old friend. With a far more pressing situation at hand, Mickey opts to try to help Ansem with his attempts to encode kingdom hearts but they learn all too quickly that Kingdom Hearts is just too powerful to be controlled. Sora, Donald, Goofy, and Riku who had come to rescue Kairi evidently captured by the organization all caught up with them. Ansem failed to encode Kingdom Hearts, his encoder overloaded.
Though Mickey was ready to assist Sora, Donald and Goofy in their confrontation with Xemnas, a building was launched toward himself and Kairi. Mickey instead focused on going to her aid when the next thing he knew he was flung into a dark portal with Kairi, Donald and Goofy. They crash landed into the water on Destiny Islands, the home world of Kairi, Riku and Sora. All the mouse king could do was watch in horror as the portal closed leaving them all to wait with bated breath. The four of them watched the skies in silence as the sun set over the waters, and things were beginning to look hopeless. Sora and Riku crashed into to the island waters from seemingly nowhere. They’d done it! The Organization was disbanded with many of their ranks destroyed and the Heartless threat was quelled for the time being. After ceremonious hugs and more joy than possibly could be expressed, King Mickey and his court finally returned to the castle and into the arms of his beloved queen. There was more to learn and understand, but all the mouse wanted at this point was to be home.
The Coded Journal
It was not at all uncommon for the king to open up the official chronicles hand recorded by Jiminy to help him learn what Sora’s adventure could shed on the Heartless situation. Upon noticing a curious message in Jiminy’s Journal, Mickey had the journal digitized and investigated. This digitized system imperfect as they often are was met with the fate of ‘bugs.’ Noticing the similarity between the infection of the Heartless on the realm of light and the infection of the ‘bug’s in the digital system, taking what he’d learned of coding from Ansem Mickey created a data version of Sora to eliminate them.
For quite some time, this seemed to work and his study was going fine until heartless appeared in his study leaving Mickey to have to fight them off with his old blade the Star Seeker with the help of Donald and Goofy. Jiminy was with Mickey during the attack attempt to leave the study only to learn that they were actually locked in and had been trapped within the digital journal themselves. In the journal, Mickey disguised himself as Riku and assisted Data-Sora in his efforts of debugging the digital world. Once they learned that the corruption that captured Mickey and his friends and dragged them into the journal was being cause by Sora’s Heartless, they defeated it.
Mickey and the others were returned to the real world to find a message popping up onto Mickey’s screen that the door to a new world was open. This of course resonated with the King a bit too closely for comfort. He once again joined Data-Sora this time voluntarily through the digitized perils of Castle Oblivion where they encounter a digitized Namine who not only explained that the cause of the bugs were from the removal and restoration of Sora’s memories, but also that Terra, Ventus and Aqua were still out there.
Mickey, alight with the prospect of being able to help these long lost friends, wrote a letter to Sora explaining that there was still more to be done. He then eagerly headed off to report to his master that he believed he knew where to find Ventus’ missing heart. Based on what he’d learned though, he was also faced with the terrifying revelation that Xehanort could then also be restored. Mickey then charged with the task of bringing Sora and Riku to the Mysterious Tower to complete the Mark of Mastery. They would need to be in top shape should such a fate ever arise.
Save the Queen and the Chosen One
As Sora and the others were going through their exam in the ‘Sleeping Worlds’ under Yen Sid’s Watch, the King received an unexpected and mortifying note from non-other than Maleficent and Pete attached to Queen Minnie’s crown. In a panic he returned to the castle to find his queen held hostage in exchange for the Datascape. Mickey had no choice but to refuse. Minnie would have never forgiven him had he surrendered the Datascape to the hands of such an evil sorceress. He was only lucky that a boy named ‘Lea’ arrived to help him free Minnie. Furious, Mickey banished Maleficent from his castle and returned to the Mysterious Tower only to learn that Sora and Riku did not return from the Sleeping Worlds when expected. Though he feared for his queen, the fate of the worlds rested on Sora and Riku. The mouse knew that. He induced himself and dove into the Sleeping Worlds in time to find Sora comatose and Riku faced with far more than he could chew. Mickey gave it everything he had casting his Stopza spell on Xehanort but to no avail. Master Xehanort was successfully revived and in outrage Mickey screamed at the fiend for ruining his friend’s lives. The battle was seemingly lost until they were joined by the same fighter that had helped save the Queen Minnie. Though Master Xehanort and the Organization were pushed to retreat Mickey remains bothered by their sworn and imminent revenge. Mickey and Riku brought Sora back to the tower, and Riku managed to awaken him. Riku was named a ‘Keyblade Master’ for his deeds and while Mickey was congratulating his close friend, he was shocked to learn that not only was this ‘Lea’ a Keyblade Wielder, but also, while Mickey was assisting Sora and Riku, Kairi was to become Yen Sid’s newest student.
Faith. Should I take the leap?
For quite some time Mickey found himself engrossed in a problem solving mode fit for a king to be sure. If there was any chance that Aqua and Ansem was reachable, the mouse was going to do absolutely everything in his power. There were a few attempts and for a moment it seemed success was possible. Even at the base of Chernabog, there was a hint of light, but it was all for naught. The party formed fort the sake of rescue were forced to forfeit their attempts and flee the dark and for a long time it was hard to be certain who managed to escape with their life and light in tact. (AU rescue attempt here on Malefic Musings, fits nicely just before canon KH III plot.)
The King did not give up. As he feared, Xehanort did return fully intent on beginning the wars once more. It was even more important to bring as many warriors of light together as possible. He downsized the search and rescue, this having been his intention all along for fear of losing so many dear to him. Sora and the others had some training to complete and so Riku and Mickey set on their way once more. At the very least, Mickey was certain that Aqua was there. They'd find her and find her they did, but it was almost too late. Mickey and Riku had no choice but to fight her at her darkest and through a gruesome battle they were able to help her return to the light so that Terra and Ventus could also be reached. Mickey and Riku, successful on their mission returned to Yen Sid, and when the time came to, Mickey joined Sora and the others to confront Xehanort and his gathered warriors. The fight was long and terrible, but eventually triumph was possible, but at the sacrifice of the chosen one. Mickey still travels the worlds in hopes of figuring out what became of Sora.
His most recent travels had him captured on an airship of all things only to be blasted off by some magical being and pursued in the dark of a cavern on a strange world he'd never been to before. No one heard from the king for some time after that. (Also AU thread that occurred here can fit after the events of KH III)

The mouse poked a curious nose out from behind the shelf rock. At this point it was unclear how the creature hunted but for a long time his majesty just couldn't seem to shake whatever that monster was back there off his tail. It wasn't like any heartless or nobody he'd ever seen. He couldn't even call it an Unversed with any sort of confidence in the notion. There was one thing the king was certain of. He was on a world he'd never been too before and it wasn't anything like the ones he'd known, the star paths that were more closely reachable to the Kingdom. This was one of those worlds, like the ones Leon spoke of where even the animals could be monsters and the magic lived in everything.
Mickey had to get out of this place and with a bit of time and craftiness he was able to get his wounds healed up and his mousy wits about him and start exploring the strange world. Nothing looked like anything he recognized at all. Cities were massive, trees were dangerous as the animals and the some of the people were too. Jiminy was no where to be found, but the journal was among the king's possessions. If he could get back to the castle he could re gather himself and his thoughts and plan his next move from there. There was no telling what Maleficent was up to and Mickey was definitely going to find out. New determination invigorating the mouse, he slipped through the corridor and went fearlessly forth.
