This... Sucked.
After having traveled through a corridor with her device, the wayward Mechanic found herself smack in the middle of a barren wasteland. She cursed her luck in her native tongue, there was simply nothing for miles around. She wandered the dusty trails, her memories traveling back to the wasteland that Home used to reside in. The climate was certainly familiar if nothing else. The kind of dry hot air that catches in the back of your throat whenever you swallow. That kind of hot harsh air was only outmatched by the variety of Al Bhed workshops she had found herself in through the years.
Though the sweat inducing heat pouring out from a room full of machina was far more interesting and natural to her than desert air ever was. She held a hand above her eyes as she walked along to shield them from the burning sunlight resting at the top of the sky, marking that it was undoubtedly mid-day, and without a cloud in the sky, looking around was rather difficult as the heat waves bouncing off of the cracked dirt played tricks on her eyes, though for a moment she could have sworn that she spotted...A pathway? A rather large gray one at that. She ran over towards it, the dust of the earth kicking up under her feet as she found her footing.
"Well... It's gotta lead SOMEWHERE."
And so with that loud sentiment, she picked a direction and followed the road, it was somehow even HOTTER on this paved pathway, and eventually she had to step off and walk to the side of it, even a well-experienced mechanic could only handle so much before they risked keeling over from heat-exhaustion. She was certainly no exception there, and with this road seeming to stretch on for miles, it was better to play things safely. She'd travel along for what felt like an hour before she finally spotted the first building seen since arriving in...Wherever this was. She'd have to figure out the name of this world later, come to think of it.
She hurried over to it in excitement! Finally a place to cool off! And it couldn't have come along a moment too soon either! She gazed up at the sign that stood over the complex of buildings, it read "Hammerhead" and seemed to be home to exactly three buildings, each with strange vehicles sitting outside in various places. While she couldn't place what type of vehicles they were, she COULD piece together that they were made for transportation given the wheels and very obvious mechanical innards that even a novice to the art of the grease monkey could have figured out at a glance. But more importantly, this..."Mini-mart" place seemed to be a sort of shop! The name was alien, but it's purpose was clear, and where there was a shop, there certainly had to be water. She hurried inside, taking a cursory glance around - And made a simple munny transaction for some water...
- A short moment later, after a much needed drink of water, she decided that with this being the only place for seemingly miles...It might be best to just hang around for a bit and explore a little. After all, nothing ventured, nothing gained! The one place that immediately caught her gaze away from the Mini-mart was what almost looked like a workshop... It certainly had the tools and mechanical parts strewn about to match. More than that though, this large yellow vehicle... A tow truck, though she wouldn't know anything about that. She stepped forward, observing it closely
"Oh, 'Hammerhead full service station'. Looks cool..."
She looked the truck over from front to back several times, whistling. Though her attention was once again pulled away as she noticed a toolbox sitting on the edge of the truck's bed, she stepped over to it, unlatched the lid and flipped it open as if she had done this a million times before. She began to dig around in it, the bottle of water hanging from her teeth as she did so. She took hold of a wrench, her eyes wide in amazement at just how sleek and flawless it was compared to a Spiran wrench... She was so enamored in her search through the toolbox that someone could easily walk up on her unawares.

Zeni ended up coming along for the ride, metaphorically speaking. Ayami had spent quite awhile working on that device in Radiant Garden after all, and she had worked on it with both the Android, and her creator, Gemini. Traversing a Corridor of Darkness was a pretty new experience for Zeni. But she certainly wasn't going to sit it out when they had gone all that way together! They ended up in a place entirely different from the only world that the Android knew, at that. This seemed to be desert wasteland as far as the eye could see. She was also able to register the very harsh temperature change; not that it would matter so much for herself...
But for her friend, this could prove life-threatening. Zeni would need to monitor Ayami's health closely. The Mechanic was the first one to start moving, but the Android wouldn't lag behind, keeping pace with her and remaining on the lookout for any signs of civilization in this harsh climate. Hopefully they didn't end up in the middle of absolute nowhere... Fortunately, the pink haired girl was able to spot what looked to be a road, and made her way over to it. Zeni did the same, and began to travel alongside it just as Ayami was. It was even more fortunate that they picked the right direction to travel in; they spotted a small settlement! Ayami was eager to arrive in town and cool off a little. The Android would once more match her friend's pace, just as eager to see this new place, though for slightly different reasons!
Eventually, her travel companion picked up some water. Zeni didn't really need to buy anything, so she mostly just looked around the small shop before exiting it with Ayami once she was done with the transaction. " 'Hammerhead', huh? What an interesting place!" , the Android comments, casting a glance over to those strange vehicles. There were a lot of things here that were so different from Radiant Garden... Zeni looked something like a child exploring a new place. Which rather fit with Ayami's own curious examinations. Eventually the pair made their way over to a tow truck... Ayami began to inspect that toolbox rather closely.
Zeni found herself rather fascinated with the vehicle instead. Her eyes flashing to a brighter, glowing green as she began to scan it's intricacies. " Fascinating... This place is really interesting, Ayami!" , she would comment with a smile. Naturally, she was just as lost in her own little world as her companion. Surprising either of them wouldn't have been that hard because of that.
But at least it looked like neither of them meant any harm.------- Ayami @cid15 Joined with Ayami's permission!

Where was that boy, Cid walked from Takka’s Pit Stop back to the repair shop as he had tried to find Talcott. The boy needed to get his truck moving, he had some things that needed to be brought to Lestallum and some hunters’ car was found intact after the long night, so it needed to be moved here when possible.
"Hunters will have to wait," the sight of two youngsters by the repair shop caught his eyes, though his eyebrows raised a bit further at the sight of one starting to actually dig into his stuff. Hurrying a little more, "my legs aren’t what they’re used to be," he sighed as he came to the repair shop. "Hey! Hey!! Y’see any sign sayin’ ‘free to dig in’? Are ya feelin’ settled into my gear?" he called at the two as he came up behind the two.
Moving to the one actively rummaging in his toolbox, Cid grabbed the girl by the shoulders as he tried to pull her up. "Honestly, what do they teach y’all these days?" he asked while his head was turning from one to the other, "how did ya get here? Ain’t seein’ a car arrive of late... Well, get it’s been saver since the daemons’re gone, but there’s still the usual monsters... Where did the two of you come from?" --- Ayami Zeni

Wow, this was a wrench? The thing was...Shiny, It was sleek, it was Modern. Even knowing there were other worlds where technology might have progressed differently...It still surprised her. Speaking of surprises however, as she was busy marveling over the design and efficiency of these tools someone gripped her shoulders, naturally the suddenness of this caused her to jolt in surprise, dropping the bottle of water that was held securely in her teeth right into the toolbox, and lifting her head straight up ... And directly into the lid of the toolbox with a "clang""Yeah? Whatcha wan-...Hebbma-lrafehk lynbad pykkan fru tacekhat drec tysh drehk!"Her question was naturally interrupted by the pain that followed smacking her head into solid steel. Though neither of the two present to witness her next words could understand them, they could likely both gather from the context and tone that whatever language she was speaking, her choice of words were..."Colorful". She rubbed the top of her head, wincing a bit from the pain, though once she recovered sufficiently, she stared down the older man who was busy chastising them, trying her best to piece together why he was so mad, something most wouldn't need to think too hard about to figure out. But she was nothing if not an Al bhed."Relax, I wasn't gonna steal nothin'! I'm not a thief, I just like tools! Who teaches us what? Uh well...One of my parents is kinda AWOL, and my boss always says 'Finders keepers!' or something like that, so he's not the best role model if I'm being honest."He seemed curious on how exactly they arrived at this little place in...Well, the middle of nowhere from what she could see. Really, her answer was simple."We walked here 's all. ... What's a..."Cahr"? Well, I can't say I'm shocked you've not seen anyone lately... I don't even know where here IS."The mechanic shrugged her shoulders, looking around the area. Honestly, even if it might've come off as rude...Her statement was more or less a genuine observation. She couldn't in her right mind figure out why anyone would even be out here. Though...She spent most of her life in some hidden steel city in the middle of a desert, so maybe she didn't exactly have room to talk."Oh, where we came from is a bit...Far off. I don't think you'd believe me if I told you."She reached into the toolbox to grab the bottle she had dropped in there, being mindful of what she grabbed so as not to invoke his ire any further. Though, she couldn't exactly help herself when asking her next question, it kind of just slipped out:"So pops, where the hell'd you find tools like these? They're so...Round! Are you some kind of time traveler?"... Probably the most confusing question one could have asked considering from his perspective, these were average tools at best.--- Zeni @cid15

Zeni would hear the voice calling out from behind them, and she was the first to turn, not realizing that Ayami was still looking around in that toolbox. The Android tilts her head curiously as the older man seemed pretty worked up about something. " Huh? Does this belong to you?" , she'd then gesture to the tow truck. It didn't seem like she was purposely being coy with him, but rather that she genuinely didn't know what it was. Which... Carried a few implications with that, of course.
Although she'd flinch lightly once Ayami hit her head on the lid of the toolbox. That sounded painful. And given the colorful commentary that she gave afterwards, it probably WAS pretty painful. " You okay, Ayami?" , she'd ask. But of course she couldn't just ignore the person that had arrived on the scene either. It seemed like this large machine and the things on or inside of it belonged to him, after all. And now he was wondering just where the pair had come from, and how they got here.
Ayami was the first to express her confusion over the comment about a car, one which was followed up by the Android crossing her arms and looking up as she pondered it over. " Hmm..." , she'd then return gaze to the two mechanics. " I dunno what a car is either!" , yeah, the way she so genuinely said that... She wasn't lying or joking about it. That or she was one hell of an actor, that was for sure." As for how we got here, we walked. Just followed that road, actually!" , the Android points to the exact one that they followed. Of course, that probably sounded a lot crazier than she intended, since she left out the whole 'we teleported there because of a device' bit. Though Ayami implied that they came from far away, so...
Yeah. That was probably going to confuse their host. Not that anything else they had done or said really made all that much sense since they had arrived.______ Ayami @cid15

The girl was more surprised than he had anticipated, or even wanted. Seeing her hit her head had him change his words to an "are ya alright, lass?" He didn’t understand a word of half what she had just called out. If it was a specific language at all. He didn’t really know, to be honest. The other girl nearby started asking if this was his.
"Yes, this is my repair shop," Cid replied to the orange-haired girl. Hearing the one in front of him liking tools was actually a nice thing to hear, but the fact her boss was a very... bad role model didn’t help. With everything that happened, he had a feeling that the parents of the girl might no longer live. At least, he initially thought they were still from around here until they started to ask what a car is.
Cid looked dumb-founded at the two before pointing at the road as two cars drove by. "See those?" he asked in a rather confused tone, "those vehicles are ‘cars’. Most folk’d use them ‘round these parts or pretty much anywhere in the bloody world. Ye’re both right now in Hammerhead," considering the pink-haired one spoke on not knowing where ‘here’ was, "this is the Leide region, ring any bells?"
Watching the girl reach out for the toolbox again, Cid didn’t react to it too much. He was next to her, so if she did try to take anything, it would be noted and he didn’t feel like he minded too much for the moment. ‘Far off,’ Cid didn’t know what to think of that. It seemed they had come walking, "if ya had walked down the road, you’d see cars drive by on and off." The next question was the oddest thing ever.
"... A time trav-" Cid was dumb-founded, "oh, fer the lov- No, I bought these either in the shop or made them myself," he replied before waving at the two, "here, follow me." The old man started to walk towards the mini-mart in front of the gas station and hoped the two would follow, "come along now, if ya look in here, there’ll be tons of tools for sale," he said as he went inside.
Stepping aside Cid held up a hand in greeting to the store clerk before turning to the two girls, "most of these’re fairly common, ye sure ya never seen them before?" he continued, wondering where in honesty these two came from. Unless they ended up being relics of the past... or future... and were the actual time travelers. ---- Ayami Zeni

After rubbing her head for a moment, the younger mechanic responded to both of them calmly with a nod."Yeah, I'm okay. I've been hit harder on the head before!"She gave such an innocent smile after a line that... probably explained a lot of things about this troublesome girl. Still, she seemed harmless, it was clear from her actions and sheer lack of shame that she wasn't a thief. More than that, she took some measure of interest in his repair shop."Wow, it's so...Well-kept! Jeez, I've always tried to tell the guys back home a temple was no place for a workshop, but they kept insisting it was normal! Hmph, show's them what THEY know!"She puffed her chest out in pride, seems she had quite the story to tell the others when she got home to Spira. If...She ever did, anyway. Although she turned her attention back to the older man as he pointed towards the road. Her expression definitely confirmed she had never seen a car before as she watched one drive by. She gave an impressed whistle."Wheels huh? Seems kinda impractical, but I can appreciate it!"... Impractical for Spira anyway. Not so much for this world where paved roads were a thing. Without any context though, she probably looked a bit weird-Er, weirder than she already did anyway. But at least he answered her question, giving them an idea of where they were. 'Leide'..."Leide... Well, not really, no. Kinda reminds me of home. Just that the cacti aren't sapient and shouting obscenities in their native tongue at us for digging in their yard. ... Never did learn what they were saying, just that they sounded really angry when they were saying it."from her description, it could be inferred that she was referring to Cactuar. So there was at least SOME similarity between the two worlds. Still, she had a way of making them sound so much more alien than most would describe them. Still, she scratched her head at his statements."Well, er... Funny thing, I was... kinda distracted by the deadly heat..."She laughed awkwardly, a little embarrassed that something so obvious had passed by her completely unnoticed. But then, they did arrive a little ways off of the road. Perhaps it was just an odd gap where there were no cars in that time. She gave the completely baffled old man a friendly grin and followed him to the shop, simply curious as to where you can buy such nice tools. As he pointed out a spot in the store where tools were for sale, her eyes practically lit up. She waved the android over in excitement."Look at these! They're almost as advanced as the ones back at your lab! Wow, this one's even electrical, how'd they manage that?!"She looked back over at Cid after a moment of wonder, responding to his question."Huh? Well, of course! We've got all of these back home, even this one with the spinny bit on the end. But nothing quite this advanced or...Shiny, really. Usually our tools end up getting blasted by sand. If we had electrical tools like this, our boss Cid probably would have kept half of them for himself honestly...Between you and me though, I think he could use something like that."Really, it was such a mundane thing, but to her, seeing tools THIS shiny and chrome polished was like coming across a precious gemstone. Even though she was traveling with an advanced android made from technology beyond what her world was capable of, she still appreciated the smaller things.--- @cid15 Zeni

Ayami responded by saying that she had taken worse knocks to the head before. Zeni crosses her arms as she thinks that over. Maybe protective head gear would be a good investment? Wouldn't do to have her friend walking around with a nasty bruise -- or worse, on her head. Once Cid replied that it was in fact his repair shop, she seems rather impressed by that! " Well, it's a very nice repair shop!" , the Android replies in such a way that you can tell it was meant genuinely. It looked like it was impossible to rain on her parade. Sure, she behaved a bit odd, but she didn't seem to mean any particular harm to anyone. That much could be gleaned easily.
After that, Cid points out the cars passing by on the road, and gives a readily understandable explanation of them. So, those were the vehicles to get around in these parts... Convenient! Not everyone could just throw on some jet boots and blast off at super sonic speeds after all. Still, once he mentioned that this was Hammerhead of the Leide Region, and whether or not that rang any bells... The Android simply shakes her head." It doesn't. But that's okay! We're explorers." , again another entirely genuine answer... It was hard to think she was lying about that particular claim.
He did however, rightfully point out that if they were walking along the road, they probably would have seen cars before arriving at Hammerhead. And... Technically that's true! But they sort of started from REALLY far off. " Well... We're not exactly the average travelers." The Android decided to accentuate her point. " You've never heard of a place called Hollow Bastion, right? How about Radiant Garden?" , Zeni queries.
Still, thanks to Ayami suggesting that Cid was a time traveler, they ended up being rushed inside the store to see the stuff on display and for sale. It didn't take too long for Ayami to be amazed by what was available here, especially since there was stuff that matched what was back at Gemini's lab... " Whoa... You're right! There are differences, but it's almost an exact replica!" After that, Cid said that most of these were fairly common, and asked if the pair had really never seen them before. " Well, we have. But it's more... Cars aren't really a thing where we're from." Then again, why would anyone need a car in Radiant Garden? Everything was centralized into one town anyway, and going outside meant dealing with Heartless. One of those wheeled vehicles would get tossed around like it was a toy out there.------ Ayami @cid15
