Human civilians seemed to be in a mild panic, attempting to get away from the recent unusual occursion in the heart of San Francisco… mendaxparvum sapien cowardice... more commonly known as the Deserter were swarming around a series of stores, raiding the place for whatever shiny valuables they could get their claws on. Unusual behavior for Heartless Antebellum thought… Normally Heartless would attempt to ambush their prey, but here these fidgety dark creatures were attacking in broad daylight!
Well… okay, not really attacking. Also it wasn’t even daylight, it being nighttime… but the point still was the same!
As the palette-swap Soldiers scrambled wildly, grabbing anything that perhaps to them seemed valuable to them; the small pink mage Heartless merely watched from one of the rooftops, surveying the scene in its entirety.
Deserters were to say the least one of the more pathetic Heartless the Pastel Orchestra had ever had the honor(?) of studying… From past experience, generally these Heartless seemed to avoid conflict and instead just tend to try and scavenge anything of apparent value before soon fleeing back into Dark Corridors (unusual behavior by Heartless standards). They tended to swarm en masse (not nearly to the extent of Shadows, but certainly numerous) in their little pilfering expeditions, and while they werenot much for fighting… Antebellum certainly found them interesting anyway! They were a fairly rare occurrence too, so any chance to see the creatures in-action was a plus.
She just somewhat wished San Francisco was more diverse in its types of Heartless though… They were mostly the more garden varieties she had grown to be used to in Traverse Town, but unfortunately for right now she was somewhat stuck here… Maybe once another large Heartless makes its appearance here she’d be able to hitchhike a ride to another world?
Well, for now she was just gonna chill… Try to not blow her cover since the last thing she needed to do was disturb this event. Deserters were squeamish around even other Heartless, so she didn’t want to rile them up… As the small mage Heartless laid on her stomach (or what qualified as one), they rattled off small observations out loud quietly to herself. ”Hmm... bong ~ Specimens do not react to the passerby civilians with anything but fear, and fortunately vice-versa. Attention seems to be drawn to metallic items… Perhaps just an instinctive desire to hoard?” they quietly mumbled as she witnessed a few lugging around what appeared to be a cash register.
An amusing thought honestly as for the most part, Heartless did not seem to put value on money beyond simply hoarding it. Munny, gil, coins… whatever was of perceived value among the general populace. She only could assume that it is more a carryover before they became Heartless… conveniently enough also a good source of income for those who slay the creatures. Where did they even take it all? Ahhh... The wonders and mysteries of the Heartless!

Naturally, it didn't take word very long to reach Vaneera's ear that more Heartless were running rampant in the city. It seems like reports like this were happening all over the city, and at random intervals... She had taken down a fair number of them, but there didn't seem to be any signs of the situation improving yet. The red hooded girl mused on that as she ran towards the latest sighting of the batch of Heartless. From what she could tell, they were a group of those little Soldier Heartless, but they weren't attacking anyone... At least, not as much as she would have expected them too.
Not that she would complain, maybe she could stop them before anyone got too seriously hurt! Then it was just a matter of returning any stolen goods; that was the other strange thing. Apparently these Heartless were gathering items. For what purpose, she didn't know. And it didn't technically matter. With her being the only active Keyblade Wielder on this world, it was her duty to put a stop to the Heartless as they cropped up!
She arrives on the scene to note that they're quite literally running around, evading people rather than striking at them. Most everyone was giving them a wide berth, and warning others away from the area. Some were recording the strange creatures on their phones. "Everyone stay at a safe distance. I'll take care of them!", she'd shout to the civilians as she closed in on the Heartless... They were fast, though. Fast enough to give her a run for her money.
Which meant that she needed to use something a little more potent for catching them and striking them down. And she had just the idea in mind. Vaneera would stop, and concentrate. Then she would vanish from the spot, appearing in front of a Deserter and striking it with a Keyblade! It was felled rather easily. Then, she teleports once more and strikes another. The process repeats several times. This was her strongest technique, and one that she was making very good use of as more and more Heartless crept into her world; Strike Blitz.
Though she wouldn't be able to catch them all, she could take out a fair chunk of them with that technique. She follows up with Thunder, causing electricity to spark out in a small radius at her enemies! Although the Deserters were cowardly compared to many other variants of Heartless, they still grew hostile as a Keyblade appeared on the scene, and began to cut their comrades down.
As evidenced by the fact that a few of them rushed her, and were about to dig in their claws at any vulnerable spot... But they were stopped by a barrier of light that formed around Vaneera as she braces herself. Reflecting them and causing them to drop against the ground, which then made finishing them off an easier task. Although she was fighting alone, she seemed to be handling the Heartless just fine...

Honestly, Antebellum had never seen a Deserter exactly in a fight before... Mostly since they were Heartless that seemed to avoid outright combat unlike most breeds. They tended to just come and go as quickly as the teal-colored Soldiers ran... Which to say the least was very fast. Were they even capable of fighting? A chill ran up her spine(?)... The all-too familiar feeling of the Heartless's mortal enemy drawing near. For a moment the small magical Heartless panicked at the mere thought of a keyblade-wielder being near, but fortunately they were focused on the mass of Deserters running amok... a lithe-looking red-haired young woman garbed in red almost as crimson as her own locks. Crap... That smarts. No wonder the Heartless were seemingly being drawn to this world in particular! Keyblade-wielders were like torches, the Heartless being moths drawn to them... with good reason too! Only the keyblade was capable of slaying Heartless for good and purifying the hearts that made up Emblem Heartless; it was the only weapon that the Heartless universally feared... Antebellum was no exception. Either the girl was unearthly strong... or Deserters were just really flimsy. Honestly, it seemed more that the Deserters were just fairly frail Heartless; but this unknown heroine was at least doing a good job keeping up with the speedy Heartless... but sure enough, the cowardly Emblem Heartless soon turned on her as she cleaved through their numbers... something that caught Antebellum by surprise! So they could fight... albeit they seemed no more special than Soldiers besides their blinding speed. Sure she was just watching her kind be slaughtered by the dozen... but this was to say the least fruitful! The Pastel Orchestra excitably conjured up a small notebook and pencil and began scribbling down her new findings, watching the battle rage on. Sure the Deserters had numbers and speed... but they really stood no chance against this girl. Their numbers had already been thinned by almost half with just her arrival, they in a bizarre mix of either panicking about or trying to aim kicks at the girl. Wait... Was it darker than normal or was it just her? The small mage Heartless noticed that things seemed a bit shadowier around the roof she was hiding out at... before suddenly finding herself squished painfully by the claw of a large draconian Heartless that had seemed to take notice of the fight. The Tailbunker stepping on Antebellum was mostly out of ignorance and was an accident, it screeching at the battlefield down below as Vaneera was fending off the Deserters... the large Heartless's attention drawn to her. "H-Hey! Ding ding ~ ! Get off me you stupid animal!" Antebellum squeaked irritably as she was trying to squeeze her way out of the beast's talons... before the dragon soon took back into the air, gliding downward to face its new target... exhaling out a few fireballs at the keyblader! The Deserters have had their numbers basically halved, whats left mostly just scrambling to either escape or attack Vaneera in self-defense.
The Tailbunker has joined the scene (after unceremoniously stepping on Antebellum), breathing fireballs at her!

In the midst of her battle with the Deserters, Vaneera is interrupted by squeaking and chiming sounds, mixed with what sounded like someone yelling at one of the creatures to get off. She looks over just in time to spot a new, much stronger Heartless arriving on the scene; a Tailbunker. Something that she hadn't faced yet.... But she wasn't going to back down, especially since it looks like it just trampled on someone! "Hold on!", she'd say to the potentially injured person. Not realizing that Antebellum was... Well, shall we say, not exactly a normal resident of the city.
Though you could forgive her for that given the circumstances she was in right now. She didn't have much time to take in the details. Of course, the Keyblade Wielder was still in the middle of a ring of those Deserters. They were giving her a wide berth, but undoubtedly they would try to coordinate some sort of retaliation if she ignored them and focused on the Tailbunker. Though... Hmm. It was also breathing out a few fireballs. That gave her an idea. She would suddenly lunge forward with surprising speed, passing in between the flames harmlessly.
They continued on their previous course, crashing into the Deserters that tried to strike her. Plenty of them were left, but more importantly, this gave Vaneera the chance to use Strike Rush on the Tailbunker! Both to avoid danger, and close the distance to strike it several times with her Keyblade! "Take this!", she'd then roar, finishing off with a large strike to hopefully send it crashing to the ground. Vaneera then uses the brief opening to assess the situation.
She needed to figure out what actions the Heartless would be taking from here on out, and more importantly, she needed to figure out where that injured person was! They could be in pretty serious danger right now... Bit ironic to think that, considering Vaneera was the one locked in combat with the most Heartless right now. But still, she felt a natural calling to protect those in need. It's why she came here in the first place.
Though whether or not she could spot Antebellum was going to depend entirely on how the next moments play out in this battle....------ @antebellum Actions: Strike Rush @ Tailbunker, timing her attack to evade the fireballs and send them crashing into a few of the Deserters. Basic Attack @ Tailbunker, to hopefully capitalize on the situation and knock it to the ground. Vaneera is currently assessing the situation, and hoping to locate Antebellum.

Antebellum's bells jingled somewhat irritably as she managed to get up somewhat weakly... Sure the Tailbunker had not probably intended to step on her, but it STILL hurt! The small pink Heartless managed to sit up and somewhat weakly stand on her twig-like feet dizzily; the bell adorning her hat shining briefly as she cast a weak Cure spell to least perk herself back up. Not even the fact that this was a new Heartless helped calm her down, she huffing somewhat angrily to herself... icky feelings like annoyance and anger were some of the only emotions she had, but it still didn't make her feel particularly pleased at being so unceremoniously stepped on.
Oh dear... The girl's attention was drawn to the flying dragon, they managing to swiftly evade being blasted by the Tailbunker's fireballs... the Deserters that were left not being so lucky, what was left of them more or less being roasted and the hearts that made up them being freed by the Keyblade's influence. A few seemed to awkwardly fidget about before returning to their dark corridors empty-handed, seemingly wishing to cut their losses.
The Tailbunker? Not so much... This was a fight to the death, as like most Heartless fights.
Antebellum was honestly bewildered at how quick that girl was... nimbly jumping to try and take the beast down, her keyblade deftly striking the draconian Heartless's body before landing a fairly strong hit against its skull, causing the dull-green wyvern to slam into the somewhat charred street dizzily. She almost was too enraptured by the fight at-hand to notice that she was sticking out like a sore thumb and probably would be easily noticed.
Hey, it wasn't her fault that there was a new Heartless that had her attention... That and she also didn't want to get squished again.
The Tailbunker was forced back onto its legs as it glared at the crimson-garbed teenager, letting out a furious roar as it attempted to leap at her in a attempt to crush her with its large talons... Even just missing would have created a destructive shockwave that tore through the street, the mace-like tail of the dragon Heartless wildly whipping about to try and crush anything in its path. Needless to say, it was definitely a step above the garden-variety Heartless...
What the draconian Heartless didn't count on was suddenly a cosmic-swirling void materializing somewhat on it... before suddenly it being weighed down heavily as its body was compressed painfully... Antebellum sneering somewhat irritably as she watched from afar, a glimmer of cosmic magic emanating from the tip of her visage from casting Gravity before realizing what she just did...
How embarassing... Acting out in anger like that! Damn it, she was mucking up her own results of this! She wasn't even intending to help the keyblader... She just wanted to give the Tailbunker a taste of its own medicine!
The remaining Deserters have either fled/been scorched. The Tailbunker was knocked down to the ground and is attempting to bludgeon/tear into Vaneera with its talons and tail...

Bullseye! Her attacks worked about as well as she could have ever hoped for. The the remaining Deserters cut their losses, and she did a fair bit of damage to the Tailbunker as well! This afforded her the perfect opportunity to spot the person that was hurt earlier... And as her eyes scanned the environment, she did indeed see someone standing back up... Though it might be a stretch to call them a Human. Vaneera cocks her head to the side, raising an eyebrow. "Huh?", escaped her mouth. Infighting in the Heartless? Or just an accident? Well, even setting that aside... She could have sworn she heard someone earlier.
But that little pink Heartless was the only one there. Though before she can muse on that idea for much longer, she hears the roar of that Tailbunker behind her -- She completely forgot! Luckily, she still had her reflexes, and barely manages to roll out of the way of the incoming attack. Though her cloak wasn't quite as lucky, as it was shredded into by those sharp talons. Still, better the cloth than herself. "Hey! That's my favorite cloak!", she'd yell at the Tailbunker, a little annoyed that it got damaged.
Oh well, she'd just have to get it taken care of later... She was back on her feet, and safely out of reach of those talons and that tail. So she had that going for her. Though as she turned to face the Tailbunker, she noted that there was some type of magic being used on it. That... Wasn't something that she used herself. Was someone here helping her out? Who would know magic, though? Well, no sense in getting all caught up in that... This was an opening in and of itself!
That in mind, she would use Strike Dive, flying at the Tailbunker with her trademark speed, and slamming her Keyblade into it's head once more! She wasn't quite done yet, though. As she pressed the advantage and continued to strike at it several times afterwards. Now, it was time to close off the combo with Fire, once more directed at the Heartless's head. "How do you like that?!", she'd taunt.
With any luck, this Tailbunker would be defeated soon... Though it was definitely stronger than most Heartless she faced before. But as long as she kept this pressure on, it'd be a fight that she can win! Especially if her mysterious helper keeps up the good work from afar.

Did red girl notice her back there? Gee... It was honestly hard to tell considering how intense the fight was going. She'd hope not... Antebellum had took plenty of time to try and avoid getting caught out in the open by would-be Heartless slayers, purely since she didn't wish to experience that same regeneration process that Heartless usually did... or worse, have her own existence ended by a keyblader. She cursed herself for letting what few feelings she had intervene with the fight, though this was too important for her to bail just yet!
She actually winced slightly, for a momenting thinking the girl got caught head-on by a talon... but fortunately seemed to just barely escape (her cloak not so fortunate). You know, despite keybladers being a Heartless's mortal enemy... she kinda had to admit, it was fun to kinda root for a side. Well, interesting at the very least...
Another good slash with the light-imbued weapon did a good job at landing a mark, though the Tailbunker soon took a leap backwards in the middle of the barrage of swings... parrying the fireball away from it with a swing of its tail, seemingly unharmed by it. Guess fire magic wasn't too useful on it...? Antebellum wasn't too sure on the specifics as this was a fairly new species for her, but she supposed it wasn't far-fetched for it to have an elemental resistance to certain elements... but all that meant was it had to have some kind of weakness.
The Tailbunker while had been grounded briefly, leaving it open to some attacks; it eventually managed to get itself back aloft... though now was turned away from Vaneera. Wait... was it ignoring the keyblader? It was only when Antebellum noticed the creature eyeing at her directly as it ascended that she realized why... "... Oh dear... ting." she somewhat timidly spoke before doing what any sane person would do when they have a very angry dragon glaring at them... run away of course. The Tailbunker's attempts at exhaling fireballs at her was met with the small Heartless panicking as she began scurrying on her tiny bird-like legs, trying to avoid being caught in the blast radius of the explosive flares. "Ack! I'm sorry! I'm sorry! It was a knee-jerk reaction!" the squeaky creature spoke, trying desperately to avoid being torched... her notes unfortunately a casualty of the Heartless's fiery attacks.
Oh why couldn't she be able to poof away like other Heartless do at a time like this?
Despite her best attempts, the Tailbunker had managed to quickly catch up... blocking her escape route as it roared directly at her. You know... what happens when Heartless destroy other Heartless? Do they just reconsume the heart in darkness? Would that mean she'd cease to think and feel, much like the rest of her kin? All question passing through the tiny creature's mind, a look of sheer fear on what qualified as a face.
Tailbunker while took the full brunt of Strike Dive and some of the basic attacks, it managed to parry the Fire spell easily. Tailbunk now has its attention on Antebellum, attempting to bombard her with fireballs.

Unfortunately, the Tailbunker wasn't quite as easily defeated as Vaneera hoped for... Evidenced by the fact that it just took her Strike Dive full force, and only seemed to be mildly inconvenienced by the ensuing strikes after the fact. The fireball that she launched at it was a complete dud, and soon it took back to the air. Though for reasons that weren't immediately clear to her, the Tailbunker ended up turning away from the Keyblade Wielder as well. It didn't take her too long to figure out why; it was going to attack the person that helped her earlier! As she surveys the battlefield, she notes that it's that same pink Heartless from before.
It could use magic, it could talk, and strangely enough, it was HELPING her... Though it seemed to be regretting that now. Vaneera wasn't sure what to make of the situation, but she knew that she had to help now, otherwise there was no hope of getting any answers! Even if it was a Heartless, she wasn't just going to let the poor thing get crushed by the bigger bully. The red hooded girl leaps into the fray at the Tailbunker.
"Hey! You should know better than to look away from your enemy!", she'd yell as she points her Keyblade at the Tailbunker now that the distance had been closed. It should have a much harder time dodging the attack that was now heading it's way. Though this was not a physical attack... Her Keyblade glows, and then spiked ice shoots out from the tip, hopefully colliding against the dragon Heartless. She wasn't going to stop with just this much, though. Now that her spell had run it's course, she'd land on the back of the dragon, and swing her Keyblade down at it.
Vaneera was doing her best to steady herself on top of the creature, now yelling to the little pink Heartless. "I'll distract it! Find an opening to attack again, or get away!", with that, she follows up with another strike against the very clearly hostile enemy that very much wanted to hurt BOTH of them now.
With any luck, she could start to knock it back onto the ground, and keep it pinned there! Even better would be to finish it off, but... It seemed to have a lot of fight left in it. And she was taking a big risk by putting herself in the fray like this. But hey, that's what you do to help others in need, right?

What was that phrase... seeing your life flash before your eyes? The one where you supposedly see everything you ever experienced before you die... Antebellum somewhat was half-expecting something like that to happen right now with the Tailbunker looming over her. What she wasn't expecting was to receive help from the keyblader... Capitalizing on the Tailbunker's attention drawn at her, the red-cloaked girl blasted the wyvern with a barrage of chilling.
Fire certainly wasn't effective... but ice? Now THAT seemed to do the job just nicely, the Tailbunker reeling forward from the blizzard. The small mage Heartless almost seemed stunned by the sudden action against their foe, blinking awkwardly in a trance before realizing that the girl was calling out to her... to get away or do something to help!
Well... admittingly, she'd rather be on the running side of things. "Y-You seem like you got things handled here miss scary keyblade-wielder! Chime!" the Pastel Orchestra squeamishly called out, taking cover by a busted up vent up on the roof.
The Tailbunker was caught offguard bad by Vaneera... it not even having the chance to try and take off before the keyblade-wielder managed to nimbly catch up to them, landing a few blows as the creature attempted to bat her away with their tail... though it was clear that the fight was having a huge toll on it. "I-Its weak! I think you can slay it, miss!" Antebellum ended up calling out... This Heartless was definitely strong, but it was without a doubt at its last breaths here!
The Tailbunker took severe damage from Blizzard and was left wide open to a few basic strikes! It attempts to try and hit Vaneera with its tail, but its definitely almost dead!

This time, Vaneera was ready for it! She anticipated that tail coming to strike at her, and she would once more call that barrier of light, to Reflect the tail away! Now it was time for the big finish. One more solid attack should finish it off, so she should make sure that this really did the trick... All the better that the little one managed to run away and get behind some cover. Evidently, Antebellum thought much the same; this thing was on it's last legs now. With that call out to Vaneera, she hesitated no further.
She uses Strike Blitz once again, teleporting around the Tailbunker, and striking it several times in the process. Each time she came from a new angle, catching it off-guard and keeping the pressure on. After the final teleportation and strike, she would raise her Keyblade yet again, and strike down at the dragon, just to be sure that it wouldn't scrape by and take her by surprise again. That was a difficult fight, and a tiring one at that... But if luck held, it was over now. Vaneera takes the opportunity to catch her breath for a moment.
If the fight really was over, then she would calmly dismiss her Keyblade. "It's safe now! If you want, I can heal you.", she'd call out to the mysterious Antebellum. Though she was a little curious about that... Would her healing spells work on a Heartless? They should, right? As long as she didn't use the Keyblade. Of course, there was still the question of whether or not it really was a Heartless... It was a lot more talkative than the other types she's been dealing with. As far as she was aware, none of them could talk. Nor were they capable of anything beyond being very hostile.
Exactly like this Tailbunker she just fought, really. But... She was almost certain that her eyes weren't playing tricks on her. Vaneera crosses her arms, trying to make sense of the situation. If it didn't just run off, maybe she could get a better feel for the situation. Though as she muses on that, she remembers something. "Oh... You mentioned I was scary earlier. Don't worry, I won't hurt you! I just want to talk.", she'd then add. Hoping to coax it out of hiding.
Of course, this was all assuming that the Tailbunker was really defeated, and that there were no other enemies lurking about. Either way, Vaneera was taking the time to look around and survey the landscape. This was shaping up to be quite the interesting night.

The girl was good... Really good. Or maybe its just that it felt like keybladers were just leagues stronger than even some of the strongest Heartless? Their fighting styles were so flashy and elegant, yet held great power... Even with the Tailbunker's great strength, it really didn't hold a candle to the the girl! Parrying that swipe with its tail was enough to leave it wide open... a barrage of lightning-fast swipes followed by a finishing blow was enough to cause the Heartless to keel over, the heart that made up its form gently materializing and disappearing into light as the dark dragon's visage faded away.
All that crossed Antebellum's mind was simply that better off them than her...
With the fight over, Antebellum was willing to peek out from cover... though they were at least still hesitant of her savior. She felt like it would have been appropriate to at least thank the girl, but that didn't change the fact that they were both supposed to be enemies... right? "Err... No thank you. Chime. I-I can heal myself. Rule number one of research is to be always prepared with first aid." the small pink Heartless squeamishly spoke, and though they didn't exactly have much a face to convey emotions; their eyes were least enough to show she was hesitant about the whole situation.
Well... than again, the girl did sheathe her weapon for now. They also didn't seem to be acting hostile towards her? Question was, was it just some ploy to let down her guard or something else? She was only used to interacting with Heartless, and they were fairly predictable creatures... at points mere animals in fact. A human was... a lot more complicated to interact with. "Are you sure you aren't going to hurt me? I saw what you did to those other Heartless, ding." she ended up asking, though quickly seemed to do the equivalent of a spittake. "N-no! I'm not implying I AM a Heartless! Nope! Not at all! No consuming hearts for me!" she began to ramble, even whistling a tune... overall, a not terribly convincing display.
Than again... if she wanted to convey she wasn't a Heartless, wouldn't the correct solution be to not be afraid of this girl? Antebellum was a tad twitchy, but logic like this overall beat out whatever semblance of emotion she had as she managed to coax herself out of hiding. "A-Anyway, ding... I guess I must thank you! I could have easily slain that Heartless, but I was kind enough to let a keyblade wielder such as yourself do the job! It is a good experience after all fighting against a new foe!" the mage boasted (albeit somewhat incorrectly). It was only as Antebellum was boasting to herself did she notice the charred remains of her little notebook; she immediately panicking. "Ack! My notes!" she squeaked as she attempted to try and pick up the booklet... it collapsing into ash much to her displeasure.

Well, that settles that. Antebellum was definitely speaking. A Heartless that could talk... Huh, that seemed so unreal. Anything THAT sentient means that Vaneera would feel bad about attacking them. Especially when the poor thing still looked so scared of her. Regardless, the little one mentioned research, and always having first aid on hand. That made sense. Though, what was she researching? The Heartless, maybe? "Yeah, I guess that makes sense. Being able to take care of your injuries yourself can make a real difference out there."
Antebellum was shaking like a leaf... And expressed her concern over being hurt, especially after what happened to the other Heartless -- Ah. So that pretty much did confirm it then? Though the pink Heartless did her best to deny that, followed up with chimes, dings and a whistle. "Don't worry. You don't look dangerous to me, so I have no reason to pick a fight with you.", she would answer. It was strange... She could definitely feel Darkness emanating from Antebellum, which only made sense because she was a Heartless.
She even had the emblem as proof of it. Which she was able to see as the little one came out of hiding, and tried to put on a little more of a brave show about everything that happened. Vaneera couldn't help but smile a bit in response, but she could understand it as well. "Well, you certainly used some strong magic back there. I think we made a good team!", she'd answer.
Although the pleasant conversations would be interrupted as Antebellum noticed the poor state of the little notebook. Vaneera's smile would quickly fade. "Oh... I'm sorry about your book. Maybe I could help you replace it?", she extended an offer to Antebellum. Only to then realize that proper introductions hadn't taken place yet. Which might serve to explain some of the tense atmosphere going on between them....
"Oh, I should probably introduce myself first! I'm Vaneera. What's your name?", she'd ask. The Keyblade Wielder honestly never thought she'd end up conversing with what was clearly a Heartless. But here she was. This was happening.

Well, least the girl wasn't trying to baby her... She was a strong, independent Heartle- person who could handle herself! "Well, a lot of Heartless don't look dangerous, but they are! Have to keep your wits with ya, yup. They'll snack on people who let their guards down." she ended up dryly noting as she softly took off the ground, levitating much like the rest of her mage Heartless kin... though soon enough a confused look appearing on their face at the girl's response about teamwork.
Odd... She didn't felt like she helped back there. Did she? She just was somewhat acting out on anger... so what was this feeling? No, it wasn't happiness... but it was certainly nice-feeling to say the least. "...? Thank you? I don't think I really helped... I just kinda made it mad." the Pastel Orchestra huffed, though figured she wouldn't try and not look at a gift horse in the mouth. Heck, Vaneera even offered to replace her burnt up notebook!
"N-No thank you, its fine. I-I'll just see if I can scavenge something from the trash. Another man's trash is another man's treasure, ding. The real loss was the notes I had been taking..." Antebellum somewhat sadly mused... That notebook had everything she was recording in the past few months actually; seeing so much work lost was simply heartbreaking for her... Still, she supposed better the notes than her own life.
A greeting? You know, despite having seen people do it all the time... Antebellum actually didn't know just what to say. With only Heartless to keep her company (very poor company at that), she admittingly was a bit baffled on how to go about it. She used to try and practice greetings long ago, but found that most people tended to respond to her with... well, generally blunt objects. "Well, I refer to myself as Antebellum! I am a researcher who studies the Heartless so that I can decipher the meaning of their mysterious ways! Chime ~ Despite my visage, I am no Heartless! After all, Heartless don't talk... nor can they think like we do!" Antebellum introduced herself, jingling softly as she swayed in the air from side to side before coming to a stop... seemingly going into deep contemplation. "... Actually I kinda have to admit, you are the first person I have ever talked to. My work doesn't really give me chances to talk you know... talk to people... that and they tend to assume I am like the rest of them. The Heartless also aren't really much for conversation either."
More confusingly, it was just odd that she was talking to a keyblader... You know, her supposed mortal enemy? Everything about her body was telling her to bail, but at the same time she wasn't even sure why now.

Vaneera would give a calm nod in response to Antebellum's assessment of the Heartless. True enough that lowering your guard around your enemy for even a little bit was pretty dangerous... A lesson that Tailbunker probably could have learned, to be honest. "Yep! Pretty critical rule of combat; never take your eyes off your enemy. If you lose focus, you're vulnerable. Good thing that Heartless didn't know about that particular lesson.", she'd then voice her agreement. Of course, the little pink one questioned whether or not she really helped in regards to that fight. Mostly pointing out that she seemed to have made it mad...
True, and that would have been a problem in a normal fight, but... "You still injured it, and you got it's attention off of me when I was pressured. That gave me the opening I needed to finish it off. So it was definitely teamwork!", the Keyblade Wielder would state with a smile on her face. Still, she felt bad that the notebook was ruined in the middle of all of this... Apparently it contained a lot of important information too. Several months worth, to be exact! That was a pretty harsh loss, all things considered...
"Hey, least I can do is get you a proper replacement to write your research down in! Maybe we can even get you something durable this time around?", she would extend the offer once more. Once that was addressed, Antebellum then took the time to introduce herself. So that about clears up every last bit of confusion that Vaneera had about this mysterious individual. They were definitely researching the Heartless, and just happened to get caught in the crossfire this time. Beyond that, they also seemed to be a Heartless themselves...
Though Antebellum was always going to fervently deny that too. While Vaneera wasn't entirely sure why, she chalked it up to them just having a bad reputation; with this battle serving as a pretty key point of that. Still, Heartless or no, Antebellum seemed friendly, and lacking in a social life due to the complicated circumstances she found herself in.
"Well, Heartless or not, you clearly seem different from the others. Plus you helped out earlier, and you haven't tried attacking me once at all... Far as I'm concerned, you're a person down on their luck, and I'm happy to lend a helping hand!", Vaneera would then affirm her beliefs vocally. Strangeness of this all aside, Antebellum certainly did not come across as an enemy, and in the end that was all she cared about.
Maybe they could be friends!

”Ding! Yup, though thats something Heartless tend to no learn… They’re usually all drive and instinct, no brains.” Antebellum reaffirmed, seemingly nodding in agreement with Vaneera. Maybe that was what separated Heartless from people? People could learn to get around an obstacle, whereas Heartless need to be micromanaged like ants less they just keep ramming the brick wall trying to get pass their problem. Letting its attention be drawn away was what cost the Tailbunker the fight, and while it was somewhat an accident on her part… Antebellum felt somewhat flattered. ”Oh! Well… when you put it that way, I suppose that could be called teamwork… an accident yes, but a helpful one for you.”
What Antebellum didn’t get was why Vaneera was so insistent on helping them find something new to take notes on? There didn’t seem to be much tactical advantage to such a gesture, so what gives? Or no wait… was this meant to be a transaction! That made far more sense! ”Ding-a-ling ~ ? What do I give you in return though? I don’t exactly carry legal tender on my person to be honest…” the pink Heartless quizzically asked, though seemed to fairly quickly come to her own answer. ”What if I lend you aid in future dealings with the Heartless? I suppose it is the least I can do… It would also be an interesting research opportunity for moi! Heartless are drawn to the keyblade, so rare varieties I have not witnessed may appear to attack you!” Antebellum jingled happily, she metaphorically patting herself on the back… A genius compromise in her eyes!
You know at the same time she had somewhat the same thoughts with Vaneera as they did of her. It honestly was just surprising that she was up and talking to someone… and a keyblade wielder no less! ”Ting… Somewhat the same feeling. I would have expected you to cleave me in two by virtue of wielding a keyblade, but here we are… talking! I am honestly baffled!” she mused, though did seem mildly… distraught at the mention of her being even possibly a Heartless. There was no doubt in her mind that she was similar to them… much of her own notes have involved cross referencing herself with other Heartless, down to their innate instincts… but was she even a Heartless? The truth of that was she wasn’t sure. ”I do not consider myself to be a Heartless… I look like one, but I do not feel like I am one. If I were, would I have not attacked you on-sight? The Heartless are creatures with no will… they are just drive and tainted emotions… but I have to have a will…? I wouldn’t be able to speak to you or decide my own path if I didn’t.” At times, Antebellum wished the ways of the heart and Heartless were less complex. She was an abnormality… but why? The small mage hummed as she softly hovered, twiddling her stick-like legs.
