This was dull. Incredibly dull. Travel through the portals always consisted of some deal of walking when they traveled between worlds. Absentia was unsure however if this was because of distance or some other factor, but regardless of that it felt as though they had been walking for hours now...and worst of all it was quiet. Not the kind of quiet one could enjoy when attempting to relax or read a book, but a quiet that felt stifling, like a blanket wrapped too tightly. Thankfully the echos in their head were quiet for now too, hopefully it would stay that way for a while as the exist was finally in sight. Absentia had yet to discover a way to tell where they would wind up when taking these portals, one could wander any direction and find one eventually, but with no real sense of what direction was which it was seemingly impossible for them to choose where they wanted to go. Not that they knew anywhere to go to begin with. Chosen destination or no, Absentia pulled the hood of their robe up and cautiously stepped through.
Within an alleyway of Radiant Garden there was a flash of white light, the energy crackled as a glimmering portal emerged from a grey hazy fog. Through it Absentia stepped and gazed around. Wherever they were, it reminded them somewhat of Twilight Town. Crowded stone walls and the sound of muffled hustle and bustle in the distance. The call they had felt that drew them to leave in the first place was quiet now, is this where it was pulling them? Or had they lost track of it yet again? The robed figure sighed and pressed onward out of the alley way and into the town proper, there was no sense in just waiting in an alley to see. Time perhaps to do a little sight seeing while all was quiet.

Radiant Garden. It had been a while since the mercenary had stepped foot in this place and like always the place remained just as perplexing as ever. As he stood on the roof tops he could see the more developed part of town where the people lived and moved about and then on the other side, the more worn down parts of the town that was still in a state of being rebuilt. It was always a strange clash between the two that made him wonder if it was battles or simply a lot of reconstruction that caused the place to be the way it was. Would it ever be fully finished?
Pondering that for a while, the mercenary would stay where he was until his stomach decided to give him a low growl, reminding him that he needed to get food before he became a bit unfriendly in the world. Sighing inwardly at nature’s call, the mercenary would move to the edge of the roof preparing to leap down in an alley way, but would pause as light caught his eye. Focusing on the light, he watched as a hooded figure came out of a portal before moving out into the open.
Curious, the mercenary would follow until he came to a roof edge. Pausing, he would continue to watch the hooded figure for a few seconds longer before quietly flipping off the roof and landing on the ground in a crouch. Rising up, he’d let the hooded figure get ahead of him before trailing behind. When they were in a more open space, the mercenary would speak. “A new comer to this place?” he would ask as he kept his distance from the stranger just in case they were hostile.

It was bizarre, this place had such a strange feeling to it. Portions of the city seemed to be crumbling and in disrepair, while others looked like they were just finished being built. The question was, was it a sign of things being renewed or things being left to fall apart? What had transpired in this place for it to reach such a state? What stories would these stone walls tell if they had mouths to speak? Idly as they walked, Absentia ran a gloved hand across the stone. It reminded them of somewhere, not Twilight Town alone, but somewhere else. If they thought hard enough they could see it somewhere in their mind's eye, but not very clearly. They shouldn't expect memories to clear up so easily, but why must it be so damned hard? With a sigh they continued onward towards what they could only assume was the city proper, the sound of people growing more distinct as they drew closer.
After rounding the corner out of the alley, Absentia barely made it a few more steps before a voice broke the relative silence the abandoned alley afforded. They paused mid-stride, startled. They weren't yet used to others engaging them in conversation first. Most watched, likely judging, until they spoke to them. Turning on their heel they faced the arrival and looked them over before remembering that the man had asked them a question. "We are, yes...I'm not sure however what this place...is, exactly." they replied, looking around the area once again. Their voice was hard to place, neither gruff and masculine but neither light and feminine. They turned their hidden gaze back towards the other before them. "Who are you?"

He would keep his distance watching the cloaked figure with calm eyes. He wasn’t sure where this one had come from or what it intent was, but as long as the figure didn’t attack or prove itself hostile, the mercenary didn’t see a point in causing chaos in a world….well at least for now he did not. Who knows what he might think a bit later. In any case, he decided to do the logical thing and speak out to the being ahead, his voice catching its attention as it turned to him first in silence before speaking.
As the mercenary heard the voice he was disappointed to find that it would not help him in pin pointing if he was dealing with a male or female, but then again that disappointment would last for only a few seconds before pure curiosity swallowed it whole like some strange creature. Keeping a neutral expression on his face the mercenary would step forward a bit as he looked around the place he was in. “This place is known as Radiant Garden, a strange place of both ruin and life,” he would say doing his best to describe the place they were in. He wasn’t all that familiar with it, but he at least knew its name so that was something wasn’t it? And what was that? This one wanted to know who he was?
“My name is Deshitana or Deshi if you prefer. I am wanderer of sorts that just happened to come here around the time you did. And you? Who are you?” he would ask as his dark colored eyes examined the other up and down.

Radiant...Garden. Absentia glanced around at the vine covered walls and cracked stone pavement. The name didn't feel terribly fitting for how dilapidated much of the area looked. A place of ruin and life indeed. An apropos description. It did well to explain the duality of this place, but the place still felt more a graveyard than a garden. Perhaps they were judging too quickly though, they had barely been here for more than a few moments after all. Time would reveal whether this place was a bastion for life or a restless resting place that people refused to let go.
"We are Absentia. I suppose you could call us a wanderer as well." the robed figure drew a hand close to their chest as they spoke. They seemed hesitant to speak, not out of sense of being unfriendly or being unused to talking with others, but more so they seemed unused to the idea of others listening to what they had to say. After all, so far only one person had really done that for them. "I came here in search of...something. Something that's been calling out to us. I'm not sure what it could be though. But it has gone silent again after arriving here. We're uncertain what to do about this quandary." it was vexing, truly. To travel so far in search of whatever this fleeting feeling was, only to have it fall silent when they stepped out into a new world. Was it the worlds themselves calling to them? If so then why did the feeling fade when they got here? Surely it would grow stronger...

The mercenary’s eyes would watch the cloaked figure for a bit before those dark orbs drifted over the town, trying to see if anything had changed since the last time he had been there. It was a hard task considering every time the mercenary came here the place seemed to be in the same state of ruin and life being balanced on thin line as if something was waiting for one or the other to take over. This place and that strange castle attached to it. All of it made clashed together so much it was a wonder that one aspect didn’t fully swallow the others with their intensity. His mind would continue to wander about and poke at the strange balance found so far only in this world until the other’s voice pierced the wanderings and brought him back down to earth.
“Absentia. A pleasure to meet another wanderer,” the mercenary would say with a small smile as he watched the reaction of the other. It was an action that made it seem shy or maybe afraid. Was this one not used to strangers? Or perhaps new worlds? Was he perhaps overwhelming to the being before him? Or? Or maybe not. Maybe the behavior was just the way it was then. It seemed to be able to speak well enough despite the action made. And look it even told him of what it was here for. It was searching for something?
“Something, huh? Well maybe I can help ya’ll find what is. You said it called out to you, but became silent once you were here, right? Well maybe the best thing to do is try to hunt it down. Do you know what this something feels like or looks like?” the mercenary would ask as he tilted his head at the other fully interested in what could potentially be a new task for him.

They paused for a moment in thought, how could they accurately describe this...It would be easy if it were something tangible, something they could see. "We aren't sure...what it is. But I get this feeling in my chest. A pulling, thrumming sensation." the drawn up hand they held to their chest unfurled and laid atop an emblem on their robe, above where their heart would reside. "But it isn't physical. When I try to feel for it, there's nothing." with a heavy sigh they slumped their shoulders. "We're sure you can imagine how frustrating it is...And how stupid it sounds too." with a shrug, Absentia laced their hands behind their head and leaned back against one of the walls of the alleyway. Their attitude seemed to change rather drastically, as did their way of speaking though their tone stayed much the same "How can we find a feeling? Especially when the damn thing just up and disappears at random?" shaking their head they stood back up straight before crouching down, grabbing a stone in their hand to skip it across the path.
"I was in a place called Twilight Town before we came here. My... Absentia paused again and tapped their shrouded chin as they tried to think of which word best described Thomas. "Teacher? Friend? They encouraged us to head out here and find whatever it is. But all I've found so far is...Well nothing. I mean this is my first stop...second stop?" they tilted their head and tapped their fingers. They woke up, went to the creepy dark place, then to Twilight, then here. "Third stop I guess. I don't count the first place." they skipped another rock and watched as it bounced against the wall "There was nothing there other than a bunch of angry, shadow things. The feeling led me there after I woke up. Then it led us out. And now it's led me here. Think it's a wild goose chase?"

The mercenary would stay quiet as he took it all in. A pulling feeling in the chest that drew the figure to various places. It would take him a moment to respond as he looked down at the ground in thought. “I can imagine how it must feel to chase something that constantly moves or vanishes right when you think you have it,” he would begin. “I’ve had that happened to me a couple of times when on the hunt for something. Though my targets were always physical. For the non-physical all we can do is trust our hearts to guide us to where we need to be.” The mercenary would raise a hand and place it over the spot where his heart was and where the other half of him rested. He had something that wasn’t tangible that he chased too at the moment looking and waiting for the day he and it would meet head on and in turn settle once and for all the main issue that kept him from being free. However that was a story not for now.
The click and clack of rock against stone would bring the mercenary back to the present as he let his hand drop back to his side. “Well it is often hard to find things your heart lead you to on the first go. I know I’ve been following a trail for some years now and much like you have found nothing on the path to help me resolve the situation, so I can relate,” the mercenary would say with a light sigh. “However, even if the path is hard, don’t give up. I don’t think whatever you are feeling is a wild goose chase. More like just a complex puzzle waiting to be solved.” Well he tried to be encouraging in the situation.

Trust their heart hm? They placed a hand atop their chest once more and felt...Nothing. What did a heart even feel like? That would be too strange of a question to ask though. It was enough for them to hear that they weren't alone. That someone else felt a pull they couldn't easily explain. One that was pushing them onward...or perhaps dragging them along? It was hard to say in Absentia's case...Or Deshi's case for that matter. They had only just met the man, and their own journey had only really just begun. Time would tell they supposed if they were being led to or led on. The encouraging words from the wanderer reminded them of someone, aside from their teacher that is. Someone, someones? Those who encouraged them to keep going in spite of the difficulties that may lay ahead. A fond little hum escaped Absentia as the fragment of memory crossed their mind. "I suppose that right, ain't it! We won't know whether it's worth chasing or not til I actually find it huh? And we do love a good puzzle or two I think."
Absentia rose back up to standing after giving one last stone a skip, the rock smacking into the other two they had thrown and scattering them different ways. "But well. We're here now. What's there to do here? I'm wondering if it's going to feel more welcoming than Twilight Town felt." reaching up, Absentia pulled back the concealing hood of their robe, letting cascading locks of white hair fall free with a sigh. That thing could feel so stuffy at times.

The mercenary would watch the other place their hand once more over the area where their heart would be. Dark eyes would watch for a few seconds longer before looking away to look up at the sky. It was hard to say at first whether or not his words had an impact on the other, but somewhere deep down inside he hoped the words had offered the other some form of relief at the end. Tough journeys could easily discourage and cause someone to stop in their tracks and miss out on whatever laid their at the end for them. He understood the matter well considering his own journey was not exactly easy either.
In any case he would let his thoughts wander for a bit more before refocusing on the other as they spoke. The words that flowed out brought a smile to the mercenary’s face. “That’s the spirit!” he would say as he folded his arms and gave a nod of approval to the other. Don’t give up and surely things would turn out alright in the end; however, the smile would fade a bit as he let his arms drop back to his sides.
“Well the only thing left to do here is explore. I’ve been here briefly, so I am not sure of all the attractions,” the mercenary began as he shifted from his spot and walked a few paces ahead, stopping to turn back to the other just as they pulled down their hood releasing locks of white. The mercenary was quiet for a moment as he took in the details and then blinking, he would look towards the exit of the area. “We can go see together what this place offers if you want.” It was a start wasn’t it?

"It sounds to me as good of a plan as any." they answered with a nod and a smile, catching up with and following alongside the man. Golden eyes peering out from behind those silver curtains. This was only the second world that Absentia had been to that had any true life in it. Those things...the shadows. They weren't alive, not in a real sense. Could the same be said for them though? The duo got more than a few confused or sideways glances as they emerged from the alleyway into the city. It was a rather lively day in Radiant Garden it seemed. Both for business and for pleasure it seemed. Groups of people were hard at work at repairing masonry of some of the older buildings, while others were hurrying to and fro with armfuls of groceries. Not far away a couple sat idly chatting with one another over a meal at a cafe. Children running and laughing, adults watching their antics with amusement.
The city itself may be a study in duality, life and decay. But it seemed that the people who called this world home were full of enough life to make up for the broken down infrastructure. "I wonder what caused all of this..." they mused out loud as their gaze drifted across a particularly decrepit looking building in the process of being renovated. A war? Abandonment? Did those who live here just not care once upon a time? Absentia rubbed their chin in thought. Whatever the case may have been, these people seemed content living here. Working together to rebuild what was lost, or perhaps to find what never was? Their thoughts on the matter waxed both poetic and nonsensical as they followed along with Deshi.

“Great,” he would respond back with a small smirk before slowing just enough for the other to catch up. He would walk with the other not minding the confused stares of the people of this world when they exited the ally. He was used to getting strange looks from all over, so this was nothing new. He would look around the ruin being rebuilt with curious brown eyes as he looked for something of interest that might catch his eye. He was quiet as he passed the liveliness of this town seeing it as something quite common, but no where on the scale as a place such as Rabnasatre or bigger cities he had seen during his travel. The business was a comforting sight in place that could otherwise be depressing due to the looks of the place.
Moving easily with the other his mind would be pulled out of his thoughts as the other spoke up to what was said, the mercenary would shrug. “Your guess is as good as mine. I’ve been to this place only once before and they were pretty much doing the same as they are doing here - recovering. I am not quite sure what the cause of the destruction is, but I have noticed if you go further out you find more of this destruction and disrepair. There is even a strange castle out there that makes me further question this place.”

So many possibilities ran through Absentia's mind. Though in the end they supposed it didn't matter what caused the destruction, the people here were rebuilding. Deshi was right though, it reflected how Absentia felt about themselves, their memories of the past were broken and scattered at best, indecipherable at worst. But still they carried on and would build new memories. And perhaps in time they would find the old memories that they eluded them. Would they like what they would find though? Would it change how they see the world? How they say the people in it? Questions for another time perhaps. At the mention of a castle, Absentia's interest was piqued.
Glancing over towards the outskirts of the city, they rubbed their chin in pondering. "A castle? So some king or queen once ruled this place. I have to admit that makes me very curious. Maybe a little snooping is in order?" Perhaps it was a thirst for adventure, perhaps it was recklessness, perhaps it was just a whim but they felt at the very least the excursion could prove interesting. Abesentia cast a glance over at their new acquaintance. "Though without knowing how dangerous it is, it may behoove us to see if anyone else would...Oh sorry, what am I thinking, I didn't even ask if you would be interested in going along." the chuckled and brushed some of their hair from their face with a smile. "If you'd rather not jump into the unknown like that I perfectly understand."

The drifter would continue his walk with the other not minding the silence that came between them here and there as they moved. He was just eyeing a booth that was selling a strange colored ice cream when the other spoke up in regards to the castle. To what was said the young man would stop as he looked around the area carefully. “Hmm. I am not sure if there was a king or queen here or some great person that lived there. I just know that the last time I came here that castle caught my eye,” he said and then looking back at the other he would smirk. “Danger has never been an issue for me and the chance to explore something new is something that is right up my alley. I would love to jump into the unknown just to see what is there,” he said before slightly jerking his head to the left before moving in that direction.
He would move along the streets and off the beaten path onto a path that was less well maintained. He would keep walking leading the way up a slope until they got to a spot that was still under construction, but had a large window that looked out at the strange castle. Pointing towards the castle, he would speak. “There it is. The question is how do we get to it from here.” He would eye the strange castle ahead with a curious eye before moving up to the window and looking downward to see if there was any signs of a pathway that could be taken.

"There's an old saying that goes 'Nothing ventured, nothing gained' right? I think that applies here very well, though we must admit uncertainty in just what could be gained from venturing into a place like that...I suppose we'll find out before long." Absentia replied with a little smile. It may not be that thrumming inside their chest that pushed them to go seek out what was hidden in that castle, but curiosity was a strong motivator...as was the prospect of maybe finding treasure or hidden riches inside long forgotten and abandoned coffers. That is if the citizens of this world hadn't already ventured inside and stripped it for all it was worth long ago. The lanky figure would follow alongside their new acquaintance, towards the path out of town and stare off towards the mysterious and downright creepy looking castle. It sent shivers through their spine though they couldn't place why. It just felt like a place one should be wary of.
"The direct approach is likely out of the question..." rubbing their chin in thought, Absentia watched as off in the distance one could almost catch movement, both on the air and in the sky around the castle. "It may not be as abandoned as it seems either, with whatever those things are over there. Animals? Those beasts made of shadow? I can't really make out what they are from here though..."
