Hunters of Chickapin Hill @none, EDITED TEMPLATE IN
"Where are we?" Br'er Bear asked as he looked around himself. The ground was made of stone at least, but when he looked past the edge, he didn't even know how he'd fall. It seemed like a bad idea to fall down there. "Oh, shut it you! How did we get here? What were those shadows? Why is there only one walkway? Who came up with the very idea to BUILD A CASTLE SURROUNDED BY CLIFFS?!" Br'er Fox gave back, his head was practically red at this point as he seethed with rage. When they first fell into this place and he had been angered. Then when he looked over the edge and found themselves in the strangest place ever, he had gone from anger to fear before finally getting back to being just angry at his situation. "If you have time to ponder on WHERE we are, you're not keeping watch!" he continued while his eyes shifted around to see if there were more black critters. He didn't like any of this.
Br'er Bear's face turned a bit to anger too as he was getting annoyed with Br'er Fox's attitude since they had started walking to the castle. "Are you sure that castle is save? It looks like trouble," he added before getting a stare from Br'er Fox who turned his head to him. "Of course it isn't SAVE! Really, LOOK AT IT!! THAT GROUND SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO HOLD THAT CASTLE, SO WHEREVER OR WHATEVER IT IS--" he shuddered as he turned his gaze back towards the castle, "it's magic, it has to be." He didn't like it and Br'er Bear fell silent too as he looked slowly up to the castle as they got nearer.
A small distance before the doors, Br'er Fox turned to Br'er Bear, "now ya listen to me. We're headin' inside, but whatever you do, be cautious! Don't swing yer club at everythin' ya see, it might bring us trouble... or worse the entire castle collapses and falls into the abyss! We're. Here. To. Find. Out. Where. We. Are." He uttered the words one by one to make a point while Br'er Bear looked at him, not really noting that was the very thing he had been asking in the first place. "What if there are those black things?" Br'er Fox looked troubled at his colleague's question, "then we run. Don't do anythin' foolish, just follow my example!" he said as he turned to the doors and walked to them. Br'er Bear followed as they pulled open the doors and peeked inside.

And while you are sitting indoors waiting for the storm to pass I will be outside dancing in the rain
Prior to the Dark Knight’s arrival at Castle Oblivion’s foyer, Dieter had been forced to engage a group of Heartless that had begun emerging from the Garamsythe Waterway; their presence drawn by the negativity and darkness within the hearts of those forced to live in the Slums. The very presence of those creatures, it threatened the Low Town Orphans that he cared for. Unfortunately, while he was a capable fighter, they’d overpowered him with the sheer forced behind their numbers. However, he’d managed to drive them back into the Waterway and lead them on a wild goose chase through its’ depths. It was only by pure chance, he’d stumbled upon the very portal they’d emerged through; alas it’d taken quite a while and he’d sustained numerous taxing injuries. In a last-ditch effort, he’d activated Masamune and Murasame in rapid conjunction. The result of which left him heavily fatigued, however it also enabled him to heal from the brunt of his injuries as he’d passed through their portal. An unpleasant side effect of such an egregious expenditure of his stamina was that he’d drifted into a state of unconsciousness. By the time that Br’er Bear and Br’er Fox had begun to peek through the door. They’d only see his unconscious body falling from one of the Portals of Darkness. His body fell limply to the ground in a fashion similar to a puppet that had its’ strings cut, his sword clattering against the smooth marble as it slipped from his hand. If they were particularly attentive, they’d likely notice that upon his right hand was a brand, but on the left, a singular pentagram that pulsated a soft burnt orange. His chest still rose and fell steadily, proof that he wasn’t a corpse. Behind him, now even the portal began to fade into nothingness, perhaps his very presence had unestablished it. His lips moved in his slumber, yet they’d just repeated the same thing over and over again. ”Lord Belias..” word 300+ ● @brers ● unconsciousness

Hunters of Chickapin Hill
As they looked inside through the door, Br'er Fox was the first to notice a black gateway, much like one they had seen before as a person had fallen through and onto the ground. His jaw dropped a bit while Br'er Bear was still taking a good look inside right above Br'er Fox' head. "There is someone over there," he stated calm while looking at the unconscious body. "I can see that," the fox snarled before moving in as the portal had closed itself already.
Taking a good look around himself, Br'er Fox noted nothing else out of the ordinary... apart from the walls, floor, ceiling, or rather just everything being white. "Get here, get here," he said as he waved Br'er Bear over as he hurried himself to the unconscious body to check, "doesn't seem dead. Should be alright, I'm sure she.. he? This person will wake up any time soon!" He first speculated on female, but noted the person, despite feminine in appearance, was rather flat and seemed less girly from up-close as he was checking for breathing and heartbeat. Checking for the Adam's apple, Br'er Fox left it like that as he heard the boy speak. "Go pick him up now," he told Br'er Bear while he looked at the sword and picked it up himself.
Br'er Bear had only just entered the castle, closing the door calm behind him as he did so. His interest was more with the body than on how white everything was and continued to walk calm to where Br'er Fox was dealing with the body. As he listened in on Br'er Fox' deductions, Br'er Bear's free hand that wasn't on his club grabbed the body and placed him over his shoulder. Br'er Fox had already stood back up and walked through the hall to the only door that didn't immediately go out. "Come on, let's move. I don't like this place at all," the portal that the body dropped from was still fresh in his mind. He wondered on perhaps just making use of the sword in this situation. "Come alon' now," he continued while he slowly opened the next door to peek through.
Slowly moving after Br'er Fox, Br'er Bear also followed as he looked a bit dull at the white walls. "Isn't much... decoratin'," he slowly stated while moving at his own pace after the fox.

And while you are sitting indoors waiting for the storm to pass I will be outside dancing in the rain Dieter’s subconscious mind wandered aimlessly through his memories, oblivious to the fact that Br’er Fox had stumbled upon him and conducted a hasty basic check of his vitals, nor that his partner in crime had thrown him over his shoulder. No, instead he found himself within one of the many hidden caverns that riddled the Dalmascan Estersands. He still felt the phantom ache in the pit of his chest, the unrelenting loneliness that had formed in Lord Belias’ absence; it was a wound that had yet to heal. If Br’er Bear and Br’er Fox listened carefully enough, they’d hear a faint yet sad whimpering escaping from between his lips. Br’er Bear would undoubtedly feel that every muscle in Dieter’s body had tightened, a side effect of what happened next in his dream. He’d cut his finger and used the blood to draw a series of glyphs upon the back of his hand. Once he’d completed those preparations, he’d channeled his very life essence into that glyph. It caused an singular tremor to echo through the cave as it released a blinding white light that quickly devoured his past self. When it faded, one could see that Dieter’s body had begun to crystalize. What had once been alabaster flesh had turned into a muted amaranthine crystal. Before he’d fully entered his state of hibernation, he had plunged his blade into the ground and clasped his hands together over its hilt; praying to Altima that he’d be reunited with his Lord. Despite his blade not being an extension of his body, the crystal still crept along its’ length as if it understood it was a part of its’ master. He knew that such magic came at a great cost, it could only be used once perhaps twice in his lifetime; despite that lifetime having extended through the centuries. Some time passed before Dieter’s body began to relax, his breathing began to grow increasingly erratic, it was likely to cause some alarm for the duo. His azure eyes shot open, they instantly darted back and forth as if searching for more of those abominations; the irony that he considered another existence as such. It quickly dawned on him that was being carried and that someone was dragging his sword cross the ground. His right arm quickly slid up closer to his body before he pressed against Br’er Bear’s shoulder to rise himself up. His other hand pressed against the front of Br’er Bear’s torso to push off. What he hadn’t accounted for was the fact that his muscles were still weak, which in turn would result in him crumpling to the ground the moment his feet made contact with it. He said nothing for the time being, his gaze shifting between the bipedal bear and fox, uncertain what to make of the situation. He couldn’t’ deny that it wasn’t a strange sight but then again, he’d been surrounded by Viera, Seeq, Moogle, and countless other races his entire life. “Who are you... where am I? “ Dieter asked, his voice was low but it held an edge of unease to it. word 300+ ● @brers ● unconsciousness

Hunters of Chickapin Hill
Dragging along the sword, Br'er Fox' eyes went over the place as they entered yet another white room. Or corridor, there was some kind of staircase at the end. Opening the door further, he motioned a few times at Br'er Bear while the bear was walking slowly inside as well. Closing the door quickly behind the bear, the fox continued to look around. "Why's this place so empty.. where is everyone?" he asked annoyed while hurrying after Br'er Bear and passing him to get to the stairs first. Br'er Bear simply looked dull around and continued his way by simply walking, not being as hurried as Br'er Fox was.
"Maybe it is a haunted mansion," Br'er Bear reacted while continuing and watching Br'er Fox hurry to the stair case. The fox was moving quickly up the steps before he noted movement from his shoulder. There was a voice talking as the bear stopped walking and started to take Dieter away from his shoulder and his ear, hoping the boy wouldn't start shouting. Especially since his voice was right now low and he wasn't sure in how much pain the person could be in. The bear would place the boy now on the floor unless he would stand, but also held onto him in case he started moving wildly.
"I am Br'er Bear," he answered, not knowing how to respond to the second, but Br'er Fox had turned around and dashed down the stair case again. Taking two steps at a time, he started talking as well, "you're awake! Good, good. Ye don't know where we are? Do ye have any idea how ye got here?" he started, but not giving any breaks in-between his sentences to allow for reply, he continued on: "that Darkness, those black fiends came through them and suddenly ye were there! Are you one o' them? Were you attackin' people? Who are you?"
Letting go of Dieter, Br'er Bear walked past him towards the fox that came hurrying towards them before trying to grab and halt Br'er Fox for a moment, but the fox quickly slipped past him. "Who are you? What are you? Where is this? What happened? WHY ARE ALL THESE THINGS HAPPIN' TO US?!" the last part he practically snarled at Dieter as he came before him while pointing his finger and poking the boy against the chest. He was still dragging along the sword as he had come towards him.

| His rescuer, Br’er Bear ceased moving forward in order to extract him from his shoulder, lowering him to the ground – the care he’d taken was greatly appreciated. However, the moment that his feet connected with the ground, Dieter’s hands instinctively shot out to grasp a part of Br’er Bear’s meaty arms. The Dark Knight’s knees buckled the instant that he’d tried to support more than fifty percent of his own weight. His foresight kept him crumpling to the ground in a pathetic heap. His stormy eyes drifted from Br’er Bear to the ground, evidently ashamed of his own weakness – he hadn’t felt so weak and powerless in decades. This was the price he’d voluntarily paid in exchange for his unholy craft – it’d burned away his very life force in exchange for inhumane strength. When his savior introduced himself, Dieter’s head bowed down a fraction of an inch as he’d acknowledged it. Before he could bother to respond, Br’er Fox had already begun his own series of questions. Did he expect him to answer him? If so, the Fox should have paused to take a breath in between his sentences, instead of yammering on incessantly. Still, he couldn’t fault either because he’d once been the same way. He’d had so many questions when Ysera had discovered him in that remote cavern, his body surrounded by the fragmented pieces of crystals that had once encased him. His lips shifted downwards, setting themselves into a stoic scowl – prominently displaying his displeasure at Fox’s accusation about him being a fiend.
Yes, he certainly was a monster – albeit something far more horrifying than a heartless. It still stung a bit to hear the accusation. His free hand clenched tightly, the color blanching from the tips of his fingers. Before he could reply, he felt Br’er Bear beginning to stir. His grip on the beast’s forearms slackening as the bear moved forward in an attempt to intercept the Fox. Sadly, the Fox managed to slip between through his grasp almost effortless. His eyes narrowed as the realization dawned on him, Br’er Fox was dragging his beloved sword across the ground. Its’ bladed edge producing a series of sparks and loud scraping noises as it left faint groves in the floor. He felt his vision momentarily go red, the rage bubbling up deep within him, a fact that was only intensified as the Fox snarled at him.
His inquisitor bothered to pay attention to his body language, no doubt he’d notice that Dieter’s other hand had clenched into a fist. When he finally managed to get a word in edge wise, his voice lacked its soft feminine tone it’d had earlier. No, now it was colder, it held an almost venomous edge to it.
“No… I am not one of those blighted creatures…. My name is Dieter Wolfram, I am sell sword from Rabanastre…. I can’t say… I fell through one of their portals protecting the orphans I take care of.” Dieter’s other hand darted out in Fox’s direction, intent of wrenching his blade away from him.
“I take it your no swordsman… they have enough sense to not drag a blade across the ground.. it dulls the blade”

Hunters of Chickapin Hill
The man answered in the negative when Br'er Fox made his queries, not like the fox couldn't have told himself some of it. He didn't look very black nor had the yellow eyes. The falling was also very visible when he collapsed on the ground from a portal. The other things were actual new things. Though, a name, a place name, and the orphan things were pretty pointless news for the fox. He hadn't heard of the place, but honestly, he knew fairly little of the world.
Br'er Fox moved back and clinged to the sword when Dieter reacted. "Right, right, right, I am Br'er Fox," he responded, inclined to not give the sword back just yet, "I'm a hunter, a trapper, just a forest resident. And THIS is not a FOREST." He moved his arms wide, but due to the weight of the sword in one hand, he stumbled and fell sideways on the ground. Grumbling, he wondered what was going on. "So... I'm guessing this isn't a familiar place?" he asked, still in a rude tone.
"Maybe give him some time to speak," Br'er Bear said in a calm tone while picking up the sword instead of Br'er Fox and holding it up for Dieter to grab. Br'er Fox grumbled some more as he rolled where he was laying, annoyed with the reality of the situation. He just couldn't work with this, it wasn't like that certain rabbit was here. If there was just some kind of rabbit to eat, but instead just weird white rooms.
Looking back at Br'er Fox, Br'er Bear took the silence outside the grumbling as some allowance. "Aren't those black creatures inside the portals? They always close so quickly," the bear was just curious. He hadn't thought of people jumping through them, but doubted his large body would be quick enough to ever make it through one. The two didn't exactly have an idea on how they got there.

| Dieter’s eyes narrowed, his blood boiling within his veins as his irritation with the wily fox intensified as he’d refused to return his weapon. Br’er Fox also took it upon himself to return the formality, introducing himself as a trapper – Ysera and him shared a similar trade. Although, he didn’t doubt that his Gria comrade was indefinitely more competent. Dieter’s face contorted with displeasure as Br’er Fox spread his arms wide, forgotten to account for the weight of his blade which in turn caused him to stumble and fall to the ground. He’d audibly winced as the sharpened edge of his blade arced across the ground, producing a few faint sparks and leaving an angry gouge in its’ wake. The Fox’s abrupt tone plucked at his nerves, although he’d understood the sentiments – he’d felt the same when Ysera had discovered him abandoned in a cavern. While he was still within Ivalice, time had passed and things had changed – so many things. He’d begun to shake his head in response to Br’er Fox’s inquiry, surprised that Br’er Bear still maintained his calm demeanor. He’d offered a curt smile to the behemoth, nodding his head in thanks as he’d extended his right arm out to grasp his blade. Once his hand coiled around the hilt, his fingers tightening within the worn ridge. He’d sighed in relief as he’d took a singular step backwards, effortlessly rolling his wrist as he’d housed his blade within its’ makeshift holster strung across his back. He’d made a few minute adjustments to the straps as he’d formulated a response. “Yes and no, I don’t think they live within them but use them as a means of travel… it is how I ended up here… I stumbled back into the portal.” Dieter reluctantly admitted, his tone notably sour towards the end of his explanation. By this point, Dieter possessed limited knowledge of the surrounding worlds, although what he knew was merely blurbs posted on bulletin boards and rumors circulating within the Guilds. He’d travelled to a handful, making use of the Moogle’s warping technology – it was costly but they’d had an agreement with the guild. What was said agreement? Nothing major, just roughly fifteen to twenty percent of his commissions – it was small in comparison to the cost of a ticket for an Air Ship or even paying a Time Mage to warp the fabrics of space. Not that he was particularly inclined to do the latter, he’d heard horror stories of how that’d gone wrong.

Hunters of Chickapin Hill
Br'er Bear kept fairly calm throughout the entire happening. The only one he was losing some patience with was Br'er Fox, mostly cause he was constantly looking for a fight when they really did need some help in the current situation. On that end, despite his slow thinking, he could still understand the expressions Dieter was wearing. Plus the fox had the man's property and was actively damaging it.
Meanwhile Br'er Fox was just grumbling and not enjoying any minute of this. Listening on what the guy who had just taken his blade back had to say, it seemed to him that they weren't getting any further than they already were. In short, this entire discussion was pointless from the looks of it. "Right, right, right, traveling... Wouldn't those things also lead BACK to where we were?" he asked, trying to cut the man's chatter short when he was talking about stumbling into a portal or something. The fox wasn't fully listening and only focused on the bits that even seemed to have some point in his opinion.
"Chickapin Hill," Br'er Bear answered as he was actually following the conversation while Br'er Fox just waved as if he wasn't going to answer the question at all. Looking disgusted at the bear, the fox tossed his arms in the air and started looking around for something. Either a portal or something else, maybe more creatures could pop up so they could focus on that. He lost his interest in the conversation. "We're both hunters from Chickapin Hill," the bear continued slowly. "Can't we just continue going up or down or wherever all these staircases lead to?" the fox interjected as the white room gave little to do to begin with. It took him perhaps two seconds to take in everything from one end to the other and all individuels in it.
The bear actively nodded, thinking that he could continue the conversation while moving. Plus it would allow them to see more of the place. "You can walk?" he asked a bit slow of Dieter while the fox already had rushed onto the staircase and through the door without a care.

Br’er Fox’s incessant mumbling beneath his breath quickly had become irksome, plucking at Dieter’s irate nerves. The Dark Knight’s nostrils flared as his alabaster hands clenched at his side, his nails remorselessly biting into the fleshy portion of his palms. In spite of the abrupt, sharp pain, the Dark Knight’s expression remained indifferent – a picturesque depiction of indifference. Br’er Fox’s inquiry was met in kind with a dismissive shrug of his shoulders, Dieter didn’t know if those portals would lead them back to their home – the odds didn’t seem likely. It didn’t particularly help that Br’er Fox’s description had been purposefully vague, it wasn’t until his companion, Br’er Bear, interjected that Dieter knew the name of their hometown.
Br’er Fox’s dismissive wave coupled with his disgusted expression led him to believe that the alleged hunter would have preferred that he’d remained in the dark. He’d forced himself to relax his grip as he’d felt his nails breaking through the skin, the faintest hint of tangy copper perfumed the air. He wouldn’t admit it aloud but Br’er Fox’s frantic searching provided him with momentary amusement, not that it showed as he’d forced himself to maintain his neutral expression – ignoring the dull ache of his stiffened muscles. Dieter was less than thrilled about the idea of aimlessly wondering through the Castle’s halls, uncertain of the dangers that could loom around every corner.
Although, it wasn’t as if they had any other viable options, he’d once again shrugged his shoulder in response to Br’er Fox’s inquistation. However, when Br’er Bear inquired if he was capable of walking on his own. He’d offered a polite smile and a curt nod of his head.
“I should be able to…”
He’d replied as he’d gripped his blade and followed after the Fox, half-hoping that he’d encounter some form of trouble. If not only to rectify his arrogance demeanor but to also provide himself with some much-needed relief.

Hunters of Chickapin Hill
The Fox gritted his teeth, grumbling. He was immensely annoyed with the situation and it wasn't like this person they had carried along was helping in any way. In all honesty, Br'er Fox was getting annoyed with this person with every passing second. If he was able to, he probably would've killed him long ago... but that was if he understood what the person was and what use he was in the first place. What even!
It appeared the boy had no news, so the Fox continued his way, annoyed as he moved to the next door. "Why did we even carry him around," he grumbled at a high pace, not caring if the boy heard him. The door opened, but he felt lightheaded a little as he opened the door to a forest. His eyes widening. The fox stood dumbfounded at the entrance while the bear walked towards him.
"Isn't this..." Br'er Bear started as he looked confused when he reached the doorway, but they slowly sunk again, "oh..." Unlike Br'er Fox, he noted that the forest looked different than before. If they had known of the cards and how Castle Oblivion worked, they'd have some understanding of what was going on, but after they had climbed the stairs and into the doorway, they had entered the world of "Chickapin Hill" as per their memories.
Br'er Bear walked past the fox into the forest-like room as he looked at the strange hills and some altered trees, but he soon recognized the rope he had hung on once before, but it was slightly different from the past. Looking over at Dieter, "this seems to be... kind of Chickapin Hill? Do you have an idea?" he wasn't very good at thinking and with Br'er Fox gasping for air, his slow way of thinking might just seem better than the Fox' high-paced one.
